We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.

We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

I'd like to join this challenge. I did challenge #2 (2005) and lost a few pounds - and gained them all back. I'd like to get back to a healthier weight. During the summer I was 12 pounds lighter and that felt great. I really hate how I feel right now.

I want to join! I can't say that I absolutely hate the way that I look. But, getting married, then having 2 babies that are 12 months apart (which means I was pg for almost 2 years straight) made me gain some weight and get a little squishy. I was doing good a few months ago, but then I gave up, I stopped walking, and I eat whatever I want (which = crap) and I just feel blah. With my 30th b-day approaching fast (6 weeks) I just want to feel better about myself inside and out. ;)

In the first part of december i had my cholesterol checked. it was 230. I'd like to have it down to under 200 w/o meds by my 30th birthday. I also vow to have to not wear shorts over my bathing suit this summer. We spend lots of time at the river and I hate the way i feel in a suit. I'm also thinking I might like to have a baby this year (it's just a consideration and please if you know my family DO NOT say a word :)) and I want people to know I'm pregnant not just fat. Plus my husband's ex-fiancee has started springing up at some of his gigs (he's a drummer in a rock band) and I really just want to be hot hot hot when I dance on the speaker :p. But mostly I just really want to feel great about myself when I get up in the morning. My friend who is a fitness nut is supporting me by walking with me everyday (well we started yesterday) and she kicks my butt, no pain no gain is her motto. And I'm doing an MS walk (04/07)and a Relay for life (05/07) and I don't want to pass out while I'm doing them :D

Well, DH and I joined a gym and as part of our membership, we get a free session with the personal trainer!! This afternoon is my session. I've already filled out the questionairre regarding my eating habits and lifestyle, so that is all done. He is supposed to be very thorough and helps you get on a proper diet and sets up a personalized exercise regimine (sp?). I really excited about this!

Not a good start for me. I'm hoping it's just all the extra water I've been drinking. I met with a personal trainer yesterday, and he told me to quadruple my intake. :eek: He said that by merely intaking more water, he's had clients lose up to 10 pounds in the first month. Of course that figure could be a marketing scheme. ;) He also set a 10 week goal for me to reach 163lbs.

Good job Nikki! I know this is a weight loss thread, but since you mentioned how much you are working out--have you been measuring inches? It might be a better indication of your progress than pounds if you are putting on muscle. Just a thought!

A little disappointed that it wasn't more but not too surprised. My fat intake the last couple of days has been higher than I'd like, and I've starting lifting weights. The latter in itself should slow the negative numbers down some.

I also lost another 0.9% body fat! I am so excited: all week, I thought I might gain (I weigh myself every day, sometimes twice :o ), and I was sad because I have been behaving PERFECTLY (eating right, exercising every time I'm scheduled to, etc.), but I also had a culprit with AF, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got on the scale this morning! Why can I be teetering at my same weight all week and then weigh-in day happens and BAM! I'm down? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy, I just don't get it. It's like my body says, "Aha, it's Sunday! Today's the day I'm supposed to weigh less!"

I am having major problems with my reflux. I started a new med and it worked then it started making we feel really bad so I had to quit. So I think until I have it all in check I am going to have to not participate. Good luck everyone.

Ladies I'm so happy for all of you for your continued hard work, but I need to take some time off from the boards I have too much going on to be a good thread mistress let alone participate this time around. Its taking every ouce of will power not to regress to the dark side and their cookies.

Only a .4 loss this week. Still, a loss is a loss. I've really stepped up the exercise, with running almost every day, so I think I'm gaining some muscle weight.

I played sports basically my entire life. I played volleyball my freshman year of college and lost a ton of weight. Then I stopped playing sports entirely and have gained about 60 pounds since...ouch. My pants recently started to get a little to tight for my liking, I barely recognized myself in the mirror and I weighed myself and have never been at this weight before. I knew it was time to take control. Also, I would love for my breasts to get smaller...I know that sounds weird but I am a DDD going on E. It is painful and annoying and I am ready to be done with them. Good luck to everyone.
ETA: I think it is so funny that I thought I was SOOO fat in high school and now my goal weight is what I weighed back then :rolleyes:

Okay, whenever I weigh in (Sundays), I always weigh the lowest of the week (woo-hoo!). But then on Monday and Tuesday (and often Wednesday), I weigh more than I did on Sunday, only for it to plummet down more for the following Sunday. It's like my weight is tricking me into keeping on track!

I'm glad about that, and I'm also thrilled because I did my complete measurements today and since January 1, I am also -2.7% body fat and -5.75 inches. :D
Additionally, 145 was my short-term goal for a while because, according to the BMI, it's the heaviest weight for my height that is considered in the "normal" range. Woot! I have a small frame, so it's probably actually slightly less for me, but I'll take it.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to weigh-in next week. I will be OOT for Saturday/Sunday, and I don't want to take my glass scale in my suitcase. Maybe I'll go for Saturday or Monday weigh-in?

I'm hoping to maintain at least this week. I haven't worked out since Wednesday. My DD spent Saturday in the ER, so DH and I have been taking turns staying home with her. I have such a difficult time working out when I SAH.
I did find a little weight loss trick yesterday. I donated blood, and I'm down two pounds this morning. LOL! It's all fluid though and I fully suspect it will find its way back before Friday's WI.

I'm not as on track as i'd like to be and i have found that trying to find the time to prepare food/make good decisions is more difficult now that i have a baby. I joined LA Weightloss online today when i went to the center to weigh in so now i'll be able to keep my food journal online as well as my weight loss progress. I keep leaving my food journal at home. I think this is going to make things easier. I hate paper and did away with a traditional paper planner years ago. I just like being able to get to my business anywhere in the world. I'm weird, i know.

I am going to be much better on my nutrition plan. I have the exercising down but I don't think eating fast food and lots of mexican food is the way to lose weight. I just really need to start planning my meals more. I have signed up to run a half marathon on 2/18 so that should help motivate. Thank God my WW Flex points re-set today....I am pretty sure I went over last night. :rolleyes: Bad week at work, and I did some stress eating. But I ALSO abused my treadmill, so I think I struck a good balance maybe?

Well ladies, i did it. I finally committed myself to my weight loss. I realize you're all probably scratching your heads since i've been on the challenge since it started this round but i wasn't actually dieting. I wasn't eating like crap but if i wanted something i ate it. Interesting diet, huh? lol. I can lose so much more and now i'm finally committed to it. Dh and i are going to plan a tropical vacation this summer leaving sometime between sept-dec and i want to be comfortable in my own body (and a bathing suit. ;)) My weightloss goal date is in October and i'd LOVE to actually reach this goal and maybe even reach it early! So you all need to keep me honest! I know it's a heavy burden... no pun intended :D

So I guess last week wasn't a scale problem. :) I have not been very responsible the past couple of weeks, eating out a lot, eating way more than I know I should, etc. But all I can do now is vow to do better this week.
Ellidew: It's great that you have committed to being stricter about your weight loss. But don't knock losing 9 pounds in 4 weeks. Most weight loss guides I see say that 1-2 pounds a week is typical and healthy, so it looks like you are already ahead of the curve.

Good for you for recommitting! If you did that well without putting in too much effort, you'll do GREAT!
I'm so bummed this morning. As most of you know, I'm a habitual weigher. I've ben up a whopping 3 pounds over last week's weight since Monday morning. I've been doing really well and sticking to my plan really well. So when I go on this morning, I thought for sure it would reflect my hard work & dedication.
Nope. I'm still that pesky 3 pounds over. At first i was thinking possibly AF is on the way, but I'm only on CD 24 (my cycles have been about 32 days PP). I'm so frustrated. I've been so good this week and have passed up cupcakes, bagels, and all kinds of goodies. I hate when I get in these ruts. It makes the sacrifices seem pointless. Now I really don't think I'll make my 10 pound challenge goal. It sucks, because I've done so well up until this point.
Sorry, just had to vent. :(

Liznkeith- It's not pointless! Don't lose hope!! Are you drinking all of your water? If you are just retaining water then make sure you get your 8-8oz glasses in so it can flush out your system. Also, are you watching your salt intake? If not, have you considered Morton lite salt? Maybe just a small change will give your system the push it needs to get over the hump. You could also consider a liquid diet and only protein for a day and see if that does it. When i dieted the first time if i wasn't getting anywhere weight wise i'd drink a glass of wine. i have no idea why but it always seemed to work. Maybe it just relaxed me and i wasn't stressed out? I did see something about red wine helping with weight loss but i always had white wine. Try something you haven't done to get over the plateau. Maybe you need to eat 1 cupcake just because your system will wonder what the heck is going on and start pumping again.
Sometimes we just get into a rut and our body needs us to do something different to keep moving forward. Your doing great so don't let this plateau do you in. Keep up the hard work.
For me, i've been telling myself... 'In 6 months i don't want to look back and say... if only i had tried that or done that i'd be x amount lighter.' I also find it inspirational to hang up fat pictures. Seriously i have them on my tack board in my office because it's a constant reminder that i DON'T want to look like that anymore.

LIZ~I agree with ellidew. Don't beat yourself up! Try switching things up for a couple of days, then go back to WW. That should "reset" your metabolism. Eat something that's "not allowed" on your Weight Watchers plan, but that is still relatively healthy. For example if you don't eat a lot of carbs, have spaghetti one night for dinner and chicken/rice then next. Keep it up!!! :D

Thanks, girls...I'm trying to go easy on myself, but it's just frustrating. My water consumption has been decent (68-85 oz a day) and soldium has been in check (less than 2000 mg a day). Maybe I will splurge and have a glass of red wine tonight. I just feel so guilty doing it when I'm already up 3 pounds this week, ya know? I'm hoping for an early AF and the scale to make up the difference next week.

So that means i met my challenge weight loss goal but i have to admit that i was being chintzy when i set it at 12 pounds. On average i typically figure 2 pounds a week. Hopefully i lose 2 more between now and next wednesday! Looks like i'll be in the 210's the first or second week of the April Fools challenge and if i lose 2 pounds a week during that challenge i'll be able to start the next one out in the 190's!! yay! Skinnier clothes here i come!! :D
ETA: IS ANYONE ELSE DOING LA WEIGHT LOSS? I don't want to start a group if there isn't anyone else out there following their plan. I could use some other people to share meal ideas with!

So, because i'm a complete wacko. I just created a calendar in my google calendar account for my weight loss goals and put in all of the challenges we will have between now and my goal weight, my weekly goal, the holidays each challenge pertains to, and i also put in my actual weight up to today.
**If i average 2 pounds a week i will reach 150 (my current BIG goal) on September 19th.
**If i finish out the Halloween Weight Loss Challenge I will be 138 on Halloween!
Very exciting and so cool to see it in black and white (well teal and white on my google calendar ;))

Went skiing this weekend and I could tell all my working out is at least making my muscles stronger, despite not being skinnier. :p So that is a small victory - now I just need to get my ski pants to fit a bit better!

I just love carbs SO much... LOL. But I know that while Atkins may work for some people, it just isn't for me for a variety of reasons. That ratio is the best I've tried, so I am sticking with it. This last week, I was horrible about eating and the week before I was just starting AF, so I probably actually gained weight this last week (because the week before was probably water weight), but oh well. I am back on track now, and I am really glad to be losing. It's worth all of the work! :)
ETA: I think I set my goal for this challenge a little high, but a girl can hope, right? I am sure I won't be losing 4 lbs. this week so I won't make it to my goal, but I'm still glad that I worked toward it. Last year at this time, I weighed 168 (I'm currently 144). So the slow and steady progress is worth it!

I've tried Atkins before, and it just didn't work for my body type. I ran cross country in HS and had a plate of spaghetti everyday between school and dinner (and still ate a full dinner) and was a size 2. :eek: I figured I'd give the high-carb route another try!

LOL! It really all depends on your body type and how your body digests certain types of food.
For example, DH's aunt has to be on a very strict Atkins diet to lose anything. Her body just doesn't digest carbs well.
OTOH, I blow up if I do Atkins because my body doesn't handle fats & protiens as well as carbs. Last challenge and at the beginning fo this challenge when I actually lost I was eating primarily pastas with meats only a few nights a week. I tried to get my protien through VERY lean chicken breast and a variety of fruits & veggies.

I have a question about the close of this week. I am a Sunday weigher, so I haven't weighed in yet this week, but is the challenge now over because it is Valentine's Day? Do I start on the new challenge this Sunday? Or close out this challenge on Sunday and start the next on next Sunday?
