Under the "whoops I did it again" thread, I broke my tailbone for the second time in 5 years. We were ice skating and wham. We went to the ER and I was so sure it was not fractured but they told me it was broken. They put me on 325 mg of Percoset and it is heavy. I know it takes forever to heal...anyone else have broken butt experience?

I had a slip & fall back in 98-slipped on standing water in the dishroom at work, came down on my tailbone. I never had an MRI, just an x-ray. But I have never been convinced there was nothing wrong with me, as there has it has NEVER been right since then.
Poor PJ! Make sure Joe takes good care of my girl while you are nursing your broken butt!

Love you babe. I was thinking this time was not as bad as when I did it before. Last nite I was really tired of being all looped out and didn't take any pain killers after 9 or 10 so I went for 12 hours. Lord I am screwed up. It realllly hurts when there are no percs running through my blood. It's bad. I am wondering how I am going to go back to work with this. The dosage of pills I have now is so high I wouldn't drive on them but it is hell not having it in my system. OY.

Thanks....I'm in and out of it not being so bad and just dying. I can do everything but it hurts a lot after thinking I can just do it. The drugs help but I'm really relying on them and all obsessed about what we're going to do tonite and about going back to work. I don't go back til Wednesday so need to just chill. Yowps. Last nite I didn't take any to see what the pain level really was. It's nuts. Thank God for CC where we can all ramble through our issues. Thanks for thinking of me.

Babe. Just take the damn drugs. That's what they are for. You cannot heal enough to go back to work when you have to, if you are fighting the pain right now, when you don't have to, courtesy of your friend Percocet. Take the drugs they have given you. You will figure the rest out later.

Sorry to hear about your tailbone.

I fractured my tailbone in Feb. It is extremely painful and I have never experienced a more intense pain in my life. I was prescribed Percocet and 800mg Ibuprofen ( anti-inflammatory). I hate prescription painkillers and only took 1 Percocet at night to get to sleep the first week. I hated the way I felt and threw away the rest.

I was instructed to take the 800mg Ibuprofen 3 x a day with food and that helped so much. You also ( if you haven't already) need to go to a drugstore and buy a "donut" cushion to sit on. If you can't find it, ask the pharmacy staff and they will know what you are talking about.

I couldn't sleep on my back for weeks because it hurt and *TMI* getting up from the toilet ( or any chair) the first few weeks was agony and made me cry out in pain. Make sure you have your cushion with you when you drive and take it to work/home or where ever you know you will have to sit.

Take it easy, don't exercise or engage in any other kind of activity ;) until that tailbone is feeling better ( 4-6 weeks) and trust me when I tell you it will get better, but it will take time and it is a painful recovery.

Sending you hugs

I've never broken my tail bone, but I had a friend who broke it twice. First, fell from being lifted up cheerleading in middle school. Second, slipped in the shower. She said it was so very painful. I hope you heal quickly.

I merely bruised my tailbone last week while ice skating and it hurts like heck. I can't even begin to imagine the pain you are in. I can't even turn over in bed. Ugg!!

I will think very happy thoughts. Take the drugs, girl!!

Thanks girlz. I am feeling a lot better. Somehow this break is not as bad as the first time when I fractured it. I went to the orthopedist yesterday and he said that he saw a lot of inflammation all around the sacrum and spine which accounts for a lot of the pain about the butt. He took me off of the percocet, thank God. It was totally depressing me...I felt like I was another, not that nice or good or happy person. He gave me vicoden which is much happier. I don't think I will need/want to take this much longer and will ask if he will give me a script for the 800mg ibuprofen.

I find that more than anything I get wiped out really easily when I try to be up and about. He suggested taking the rest of this week off which is not bad as we were only supposed to work for 3 days. I know how long this can last so am really going to try to heed his advice and get a good head (butt) start on having this heal up so it isn't still killing in June.

Thanks for the sweet thoughts:-)
