I am 4 months and am dying to clear out the 3rd bedroom (we're currently using as an office) and start buying pampers, socks, t-shirts etc...
With my oldest child I didn't do this but I have the itch now.

So I was wondering how many months were you when you started buying things for the baby?

Clothes I started buying almost right away. As a matter of fact - that's how I told DH I was pregnant. I bought an outfit and hat. :)

Big stuff (furniture) we waited on and bought towards the end because we were moving.

Little stuff like diapers, wipes, etc. I bought throughout as I saw it on sale at the grocery store.

Most clothes I waited on though - I only bought a few 0-3 outfits until I made sure that DS would fit into them. Then we bought a bunch of clothes.

I didn't buy anything until I was 7 1/2 months pg. Then I bought the crib and changing table. This was my first and I had a previous miscarriage so I was some what cautious. Believe me I really really wanted too. However I obesessed with books, internet, window shopping for the entire pregnancy. :) Also, I knew I was having 2 showers and wanted to see what I received from those until I really bought anything.

Have fun shopping! :)

We bought (and received as gifts) all our furniture (crib, changing dresser, wardrobe) when I was 7-8 months along.

I didn't buy any clothes or diapers or any of that b/c I received it at my showers or just from my family who was trying to help.

The first thing I bought for myself was my breastpump and that was when DS was about 2-3 weeks old.

I bought a lot of girls clothes YEARS before I even got pg  Luckily I had a girl!!!

I bought a lot of unisex onesies, toys, bottles, etc as soon as I found out I was pg. By the time I was 6-7 months pg I stopped buying stuff so that people can buy us stuff from our registry for our shower.

I guess its a good thing I did it in advance because DD came 3 weeks early.

We bought/recieved most of our stuff around 24-30 weeks. I would recommend then personally, for putting the nursery together, ect, b/c you are over morning sickness but not huge and uncomfortable. Just my opinion. That was some advice I got and followed and was happy with:)

I wasn't even pregnant yet! LOL.

It all started when I would go shopping for friends' baby showers and decide that some things were just TOO cute and I should get one for later on IF I ever got pregnant otherwise I would regret it later.

We were TTC for over a year and I bought stuff (including maternity clothes) the whole time....and i'm very glad I did. It kept me from going TOTALLY broke when that time rolled around. BUT I would say that 95% of the stuff I bought was on clearance or SUPER cheap.

I think it was meant to be that I had a little girl since 99% of the stuff I had bought before I was even pregnant was for a girl ;)

We bought a bib and a stuffed animal when we decided to TTC. That was fun. :D

It took a little while to get pg, and then it was really hard to stay pg - had lots of complications, and was on bedrest from weeks 6-15. That made us a little gun-shy, I think, and we postponed buying things or cleaning out the third bedroom for longer than we otherwise would've.

I was 22 weeks the week between Christmas and New Year's, and DH and I both had the week off. That's when we cleaned out the baby's room, and bought an crib. We made a lot of progress that week, and then tackled things slowly - I was in labor at 37 weeks before we finally put the sheets on the crib. :)

Thank you ladies so much, I think I am going to buy pampers when on sale and onesies, gowns, little things like that. I'm sure we'll get lots from our baby shower. For now I'll just get small things you can never have too many pampers!!!!

I think I made my first purchase about a week or so after I found out I was pregnant, so about 6weeks along. I do think had this pregnancy ended up in a miscarriage, it would only make it that much harder to look at all the clothes, etc. I also went on a mad shopping spree right after my u/s buying everything from pacifiers to pajamas.

Just a side note about stocking up on diapers. I would have one or two packages on hand, but not more than that. You never know if you'll end up hating or loving one particular brand, or if your baby will be allergic to some materials. Also, you won't know how long your babe will stay in one size. Just my 2 cents tho based on what other moms have said here on the boards. I have no RL experience with this as I am still expecting also.

ChadandLiz.. you make a good point, I was going to buy a variety of sizes for the pampers but didn't think about if the baby will be allergic to some materials. So maybe I'll just buy 3-4 packs ranging in sizes.

I got a TON of onesies and bibs at showers - even though I didnt register for them. You might want to wait on that.
