Suprisingly enough, I don't think this has been done yet in the world of reality tv:
Real lawyers. Real cases. Real consequences. Executive producer David E. Kelley (The Practice, Ally McBeal) brings a real legal drama to television. Trial attorney and legal analyst Roy Black will manage 12 actual lawyers competing against each other while trying real court cases with judges and juries, resulting in outcomes that will be final, legal and binding. Each week, one legal eagle is eliminated and the top attorney will receive a prize of $250,000. With plenty of drama inside and outside of the courtroom, the result is riveting entertainment.
The compelling cases range from First Amendment issues to neighbor disputes to wrongful death. Distinguished judges will decide some of the cases, while a jury determines the others. In the end, the top attorney will win a prize of $250,000.
"The Law Firm" is executive produced by multiple Emmy Award winner David E. Kelley ("The Practice," "Ally McBeal," "L.A. Law"), David Garfinkle ("Surreal Life," "Blind Date"), Jay Renfroe ("Surreal Life," "Blind Date"), Jonathan Pontell ("Ally McBeal," "Boston Public") and Robert Breech ("The Practice," L.A. Law"). "The Law Firm" is produced by Renegade 83, Inc. in association with David E. Kelley Productions and 20th Century Fox Television.

Anyone going to watch? It looks good and I have liked David Kelley's show in the past!

Not sure yet.....I also think it looks interesting (but I am intrigued by the law), so I will probably tune in for one or two shows. Whether or not it is good enough to hold my interest.....

One of the attorneys in my office is on the show! I can't imagine she won though -- why else would she still be working here. :p She's in a different division than I am -- I work in government -- but on the same floor as me. People have posters from the show plastered all over the place.

I'm going to watch to see what it's like. I'm very curious to see how the law translates to reality TV. :)

I considered applying for this show last fall when I thought I'd never get a job. :o I will probably watch it out of curiosity.

Anyone else watch it last night? I'm hooked. It looks like the cases are going to get more interesting as the series progresses.
I was surprised that Kelly was dismissed. I thought for sure Regina was going to be dismissed for how horribly she handled her witness.

I watched! And I watched it again tonight on TiVo! :o
I really like it. They've got some strong personalities, so that is definitely making it exciting even aside from the actual cases.
I was not at all suprised that Kelly was dismissed. She's an idiot, in my humble opinion. I was not at all impressed with her, and I think she held her team back. Um, since when does "vigilante" carry a positive connotation? Scary.
And I definitely agreed with Roy about dismissing the guy (Jason) who made the ridiculous objection and move to strike. That was a really, really stupid mistake. :(

Was it just my area, or were you shown a preview for the next week (which included showing who was "dismissed" from last night's show) BEFORE the final segment? Took all the suspense out of who was being dismissed - I already knew! Wacky NBC. :)
I wasn't too impressed with the show last night, but I'll probably watch again to see if it gets more interesting as the cases get more complex. I must say that dog owner defendent was helarious!!!"BIG DOGS OUT! BIG DOGS OUT!"
The show did make me feel really good about my legal skills. I worked for almost a decade as a Paralegal (the last 7-1/2 for a telecom in-house legal department), and represented the company a handful of times in Small Claims Court. I was so surprised at how Kelly froze in her opening statement. I ad libbed all the time without even thinking about it. A highlight of my career was the "made it up as I went along" closing statement I did in one case, which I didn't remember at all when the hearing was over. We won, though!! Good thing, too, since one of our attorneys was there observing me.

Wasn't that painful?! :(
I was also extremely unimpressed with the defense's closing statement in the dog case. I can't for the life of me recall who gave it, but I think it might be a large part of the reason they lost.

VERY painful!!!
It seems like several of them are trying to "showboat," so they aren't as focused as they need to be. The closing statements in the dog case just seemed to lack direction.
Oh, and the plaintiff counsel's objection to the defendant's "If you took away all four legs he'd still be a menace" as inflamatory? Yeah, maybe against the guy who said it!

Definately took the suspense out when it was apparent that Regina wasn't being dismissed! I really thought that it might be her after the fiasco with her direct with her client. LOL... it was such a trainwreck. I honestly don't think that anyone would have been able to control that man. "HONK, BIG DOGS OUT, BIG DOGS OUT!" :D
Kelly was a no-brainer. She couldn't put a sentence together!! I could have done better than she did!! I was sad for Jason, though. His mistake was so laughable. Poor, morally-outraged Jason. He reminded me of Christian Bale... same smile. I was pulling for him at the beginning of the episode.
I was rather impressed with Chris and Deep (what a name). I don't like Mike or Olivier at all. Arrogance can be sexy on some men, but it's just annoying on these two. Mike got tripped up pretty well at one point, too.
One thing that I really like about this show is that regardless if your team wins, if you don't do well, you can get fired. These people have to be their best or they're gone. I like that.

That was my thought about Regina, too. She could definitely could have done a better job talking to him beforehand, but I think anyone would have had trouble keeping crazy George in line. I freaking loved it when the judge mocked George for yelling that in court. Priceless! :D

ITA. I really liked that Roy started things off that way - that it's not JUST about winning.

I heard on the radio this morning that NBC has already cancelled the show. I guess nobody is watching it. I thought it was ok.

That's too bad, because I like it. This last week, I really thought that Olivier should have been fired... couldn't believe that he cursed at the judge and stormed out of the room like a five year old having a tantrum. Yeah, I want HIM to represent me.
Good News: The remaining episodes are going to be aired on BRAVO.
