For those of you who needed Clomid to TTC #1, what was the course of action when you decided to TTC #2? It took over a year for me to get pregnant last time, which included very long and wacky cycles, a m/c, low progesterone and Clomid. On my second round of Clomid, I got PG. DH and I would like to start TTC #2 in the spring. I mentioned this to my OB at my annual appointment earlier this month, and asked him when we would start Provera if I didn't get AF on my own after going off the pill (6-8 weeks), and about Clomid. I didn't exactly ask when we would start Clomid, but he did say I'd go on it again, we wouldn't fool around waiting to see what would happen. So did you go on it once you stopped BCPs or after your first cycle and your first AF? Please share your experiences, as well as how long it took you to get PG the second time. Thanks!

We haven't started TTC yet. My OB says if you experience primary IF, statistically you have a very low chance of secondary IF. Obviously this isn't the case for everyone. My parents were in the adoption process before my mom found out she was pg and then got pg again less than a year later.
In our case, we had unexplained IF. It took us 19 months to have a sticky pg. My first pg (m/c) was on Clomid, but DS was conceived after an HSG. My OB wants us to try for 6 months and then re-evaluate. I guess I should also mention I have hypothroid and Hashimoto's that most likely contributed to our IF. I'll be having my thyroid levels checked before we start TTC.
Good luck to you.

i have not heard this. where is your ob getting his stats? i think it also depends on the diagnosis you have.

Pookie & Asha - I've haven't heard that too, and based on what my OB said, I don't think that is his outlook either. In a nutshell he was saying we already knew I had some IF issues from the first go around, so it would be the same this time around.

And mods, I just realized this thread might be in the wrong forum, so if so, please feel free to move it to family planning. Sorry!

We are TTC #2 and had IF with with #1. (we used Vitex to get pregnant, but I had the Rx of Clomid filled for the next cycle, but didn't have to use it)

For TTC#2, We decided to initially not do any medical interventions, but here we are, a year later and no pregnancy. I'm fine that we waited, but we are going to start proactively seeking interventions in January - which is like a few days away - yikes. Oh, I am having the same problems that I had before DD - short LP.

Asha Not exactly sure which study my OB was quoting, but my RE also agreed with that statement. I do agree, though, it does depend on your diagnosis.
For us, we'll TTC for about 3-6 months and then decide where to go from there. The way I look at is, if it does take 6 months next time, that's way better than the 19 it took with DS.
Good luck to everyone.:)

We ended up taking one round of Clomid with my first pg and got pg that month. We decided to just "try" on our own for the second pg and see what happened for six months. We got pg on our own on month 5 with twins. I think how long you wait to seek help is personal and depends on your age and how long you are willing to wait. I am 36 and didn't want to wait more than six moths. We started trying when my daughter was only 6 months old (I know, we're crazy).

Good luck.

When we started ttc #2, my Dr didn't make me wait any amount of time. I had my first PP period and after sending me for lab work and an u/s, she prescribed the clomid. In her reasoning, I had PCOS and have never had regular cycles, so there was no point in waiting around. I got pregnant on our fifth cycle of ttc with clomid with N.

When we decide to ttc again, I think I'll just need to give her office a call to ask for the clomid. I do have an appointment for my annual next week, so I'll be able to double check if that's the right protocol. I didn't go on any bcp, so I don't think I should have any trouble with wait limits. Besides, our insurance does not pay for clomid, so it's not like I have to do the song and dance for insurance purposes.

brink - can I tell you how ironic your story is? :D LOL, your first is conceived with fertility meds, where you had a statistically higher chance of twins. And yet, you conceived the twins naturally! LOL, very ironic. :)

We're currently TTC #2. When trying to get pg the first time we tried for about 6 months (with charting) and then got on Clomid. I got pg on the second round of clomid. This time around we tried for about 4 or 5 months on our own. I went to the OB/GYN ( a new one-we've moved since having DD ) and told her my history of long cycles, no O, PCOS, etc and she said to let her know when I wanted to start clomid and she'd call it in for me. I was so relieved that she wasn't going to make me wait 6 months or 1 year before she's prescribe clomid. Right now we're on cycle #3 with clomid and we're praying this is the month for us!

This absolutely has to depend on diagnosis. My diagnosis is such that I'll need IVF to conceive each and every time.

It took us 15 months to conceive #1, which included 2 rounds of 50mg Clomid and 2 rounds of 100mg Clomid. My dx was that I was not ovulating on my own. When DS turned 1, I started some serious dieting and lost over 50 pounds. My first PP cycle began in August and in September we found out we were pg. In January we found out it was twins. I believe that our "success" was attributed to my weight loss, as I believe this is what caused me to not ovulate in the past.

Had this not happened on it's own, I was going to talk to my OB and see if she thought we should start with Clomid or try on our own for a while. I am only 25 so I didn't feel as though I was on a time table. I believe she would have had me chart a cycle to see if I was O'ing, and then we likely would have tried Clomid again.

Best of luck to you!!
