Tuni, thanks for the new thread!

I am now 30 and DH is 29. Woops, I never updated our ages since I joined the thread.
Also, latest stats from 8 mo WBV: 21lbs, 28 3/4"

No more work for me for the rest of the year! YAY!

Seth has 2 teeth coming in!

He cleaned up for Hanukkah- got several big toys which he loves to play with.

The last 2 nights I have woken up to him crying only to find him sitting up in his crib. I know he can go from sitting to lying on his tummy, but I think he will have to figure out how to do that in bed? Any tips?

He's *this* close to crawling, but not quite there yet. We take a music class on Saturday mornings and I so want him to crawl over to the toys like all the other babies. He is the youngest in there (by a week) so I give him a little slack. ;)

Jenn- So sorry the WBV didn't go well. You are such a great momma to Owen, don't take it personally. He'll get there and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about.

Tuni- That picture is AWESOME. Piper provides some awesome photo ops, huh?

thanks Tuni for the beautiful new thread.

Wow, 2006 is almost over where is the time going?

It has been a crazy month here. Ben has been fighting a flu bug the past week. He seems to have turned the corner today - I am really hoping as my new 2 month old nephew is coming in from CA on Sunday and I want everyone to be healthy.

Anyway, we were supposed to have a 9-mo visit yesterday and it turned into a sick visit, so we'll go back next week. He had only gained 3 oz in 2 months...the dr wasn't too worried because she said babies can lose a pound or so when they are sick, so we'll give it a week and weigh him again then. He hasn't had much of an appetite the past few days.

Here is his Xmas card picture
Tuni, you can use this for the pictures at the front of the thread.

Thanks Tuni for the new thread!
It really looks great!

I don't really want to update my age, so I'll keep it at 35!! That's the first age DD learned that mommy was, so I'm hoping she continues to say that age for a long time!! LOL :D

I think Graham is starting to wean himself a little. He still loves to nurse, but is so easily distracted these days. He can't stay focused on nursing because he wants to look around and then get down and crawl to whatever caught his eye.
Now, in the middle of night, and before bed, he still likes to nurse.
Is this part of the natural process?

I cannot believe I am going to say this, but I will really miss nursing him! :eek:
I didn't think I would be upset to let the nursing go, but I think I really am starting to get upset that it might be over soon. Or maybe I'm just missing my little baby, KWIM?

Maybe that means it's time for another one??

Hope everyone has a wonderful & truly special holiday with their little one(s).
They are what it is all about.
I am so blessed to have my three, and I love more than anything to see the wonder and excitement in their eyes.
It is such a special time for children and families!!

Thank you all for sharing this journey with me! You have given me incredible support and friendship! :)

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!

Y'all are getting old! Me, I haven't aged a day since getting pregnant. :p (Seriously, though, has anyone else noticed that pregnancy - or maybe it's child-rearing - has aged them significantly? I went from having skin like a 16 year old to laugh lines galore. And nobody has asked to see my ID in a really long time!)

Bernie & Matt - Welcome back! Where, oh where, did Miss Adrieanna get that glorious hair, and may Piper have some?!? I might be envying her hair even more than Pierson's. :)

JennZ - From what I've read (and seen in my own house) Graham's nursing behavior is totally normal for this age. I guess they lose interest in breastfeeding around age one - so much to see and do! - but then get back into it once the major gross motor skill milestones are worked out. I know what you mean about missing nursing, when it ends - I'm nowhere close to finished but even the idea makes me feel weepy.

IUAlum - Pip also did very well for Hanukkah, especially considering that we aren't Jewish (but her great grandmother is):
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/140/329741881_b28581d0e2.jpg?v=0
Piper is also *thisclose* to crawling, and it's I have to work really hard to keep my excitement contained (early today she got up on all fours, and I started slapping my lap and saying "Come to Mommy! Come to Mommy!" like she was some sort of recalcitrant Pekinese).

Low weight gain - A couple of peeps have mentioned this, so I thought I'd chime in to say that Pip's weight gain has slowed way down too. And she's not *quite* crawling yet, so I can't use increased movement as an excuse. Not worried though. She was on quite a weight gain trajectory for a long time.

RO - I had a dream last night that I was the thread's first RO. Would be quite a feat, seeing as AF has not returned, I'm on BC, and way too tired for sex, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Solids - I think some of the mommies of the older babies on the thread mentioned that their kids weren't eating a lot a few weeks ago? Piper is totally going through this right now. I'm lucky if I can get her to eat 5 bites, and I am making some good stuff if I do say so myself (yesterday's lunch was a baby-friendly pasta primavera, with fresh organic peas, carrots, broccoli, etc - she took two bites and then gave me pursed lips).

Sleep - Things are much, much better around here. Piper is now waking up 1-2 times a night, which is like a dream come true. My husband and I recently talked with a clinical psychologist about Piper's night wakings. I wanted to devise a plan for reducing them before they became a problem, so I could do it gently and with patience. Sleep training definitely improved our lives, but I still have an enormous amount of guilt about the way I went about it (Weissbluth's "total extinction") in the beginning, and I'm now very cognizant of trying to fix sleep problems before I'm at the end of my rope. Anyhow, my husband took great notes, so if anyone wants them, just PM me.

tuni - YES! I feel like I have completely aged since having him. I see pics from a year ago and think DAMN I LOOK YOUNG THERE!:) Not sure if it's just being tired or if I actually look this terrible. HA!:)

weaning - I plan to go until around 1 year but the thought of stopping is tough to handle right now.

Table Food / Solids....Pierson still refuses. He could live on oatmeal and little cups of water if I let him but clearly, I can't do that....:rolleyes: He's just hilarious. The Ped said to keep at it - as I recall he disliked purees at first and now he loves it so I'm sure he'll figure out the chew / swallow thing soon enough.

Me Change? - I was just noticing how wretched my hair is postpreggo. Tons o gray, falling out, thin, multicolored from botched attempts at kitchen coloring, (what I wouldn't give for time to go to the salon) - it's pretty much ponytail city for me these days. Maybe Santa will bring me a makeover!

I was thinking I wish we all (all of our March Mommies thread) lived nearby -- wouldn't it be the most fun to have a get together? I would just love to meet all you wonderful ladies and babies IRL.

I am madly in love with all our babes' photos. We have such a gorgeous and unique children -- it makes my heart sing sing sing!

Tuni - PMing you now -- would love some helpful STTN notes -- Pierson was a champ for all of a month and once he hit 8 months....all down hill.

Shannon - I've been wanting to tell you how beautiful that photo of Noa is -- it's so angelic and those eyes, OY!

JennW - Hugs to you. Seems like you got wonderful support in the BF thread. Glad you are feeling a bit better.

Jordon, Mom2Am, Heidi - What dolls....just love those photos.

JennZ - How did I not remember you had 3 DC? Good gracious - you are SOO lucky -- I pray I get to have another some day!!

Okay ladies, the day has really begun and Pierson is all over the place in his "I'm movin' but I t'aint crawlin'" fashion....

I can't remember if I wished everyone happy holidays -- so I am now! HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

Thanks Tuni! Below is a pic for page 1… that pic of Piper in her crib is absolutely priceless!

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o95/bmcananey/IMG_2559.jpg

Solids – Declan is a big fan of cherrios, cheese, crackers and turkey…we tried peas and he gagged. Not sure if I didn’t cook them until they were soft enough or if the shell bothered him. Find it difficult to eat anything around him that I can’t share as he LUNGES for my food…think it may be time to go to 3 meals a day…

Sleep – He’s finally taking longer naps…sometimes as long as 1.5 – 2 hours…which is a dream as he spend most of his first 6 months as a ‘human sitcom…30 minutes max.’ We are a slave to the crib or bed…he HATES his stroller with a passion and cannot sleep well when we’re out and about, which makes weekend errands difficult if not impossible. Night sleep is pretty good – we’re still in a 1br and he sleeps in a crib next to the bed. He usually wakes once – between midnight and 3am – and gets into bed with us and sleeps until 6-7am…

Stroller – Related to above…does anyone else’s DB HATE the stroller? We use the hip carrier most days to get to/from daycare (stroller on the subway/bus is a nightmare) and use stroller mostly on weekends. He’s fine when we’re moving…but as soon as we stop…WATCH out…arching back, etc. Try to keep him occupied with ‘new’ toys, etc…but draining at times.

Cute pic of Declan and one of his friends from daycare

Finally ordered our New Year’s cards…couldn’t get our act together in time for the holidays!

Updates:
DH is now 31, I'm *gasp* 30
Our wedding date is 6/29/02
I seemed to have slacked on his stats - so here are some more:
4 mo: 13 lb 14 oz, 24 in, head circ = 41 cm
6 mo: 16 lb 15 oz, 24 1/2 in, head circ = 42 cm
And as for his name, I think we can call him AJ and still remain pretty anonymous. That would look a lot better than Baby Boy :)

To everyone that celebrates Christmas :
May your little ones' first Christmases be filled with joy!

junk-It is so funny that you said that about wishing we could all get together, b/c I had a dream about a week ago, that you and me and the babies were just hanging out at your house, lol.

We're doing good here, A has her 10 month appt on Wednesday, which happens to be our 4 year wedding anniversary, which seems like a million years ago! Arleigh got tubes put in at the end of November, she seems to be doing much better. After coming off the antibiotics for her kidney, (which is healing great, per her urologist, who we don't have to see for another year, yay!), she was just constantly getting ear infections, poor girl was sick all the time!
I think she'll be walking soon, her newest trick is standing up unassisted, and then clapping, it's very cute!

Aww, such cute pictures ladies!

Tuni: love the one of you and Pip! :)

Hope all the March mommies had a wonderful holiday. Ours was very nice, although it was a rough week last week. Ben had a horrible stomach virus last week that just did not get better. He was losing weight and not wetting diapers. That resulted in a trip to the ER Thursday night. They sent him home Thursday after pumping him with some fluids for a few hours, but Friday just got even worse - it was horrible as a mother watching him gag as he tried to throw up with nothing left in his little tummy. We were back in the ER late Friday night and they ended up admitting him to the hospital because he was showing signs of severe dehydration. We ended having to stay 2 nights and went home Christmas Eve morning.

The important thing is that he is now a new boy - healthy, happy and thriving again! We were able to spend Christmas as a family. I am so thankful for that.

Sick baby thoughts...

Jocey has had a cold for a month. Last week we got antibiotics and a rx of a sinus infection. Last night she couldnt breathe from coughing so hard. Turns out she has bronchiolitis and the beginning stages of pneumonia. We had a breathing treatment at the doctor and brought them home to do for the next 2 weeks along with some meds to decrease the swelling of her airways. Think healing thoughts!

Just popping in the new thread hoping that everyone had a Great Holiday Seasons.

Just wanted to write a little reflection over the past year. 2006 was by far one of the greatest years of my life. I am blessed to have a healthy beautiful daughter and a great husband. I am actually sad to see this year end. I am sadden by the fact that my baby is no longer a baby but turning into a toddler more and more each month.

Christmas was so much fun this year. Mackenzie had so much fun, a lot more then I thought she was going to have. Here are a couple pictures from Christmas Eve and Christmas.

This one is blurry but I love her expression so I had to share

lost She is so cute :) We had the same Christmas jammies for Jocey :)

She is doing so much better today but I am having a hard time giving her her inhaler. It is beyond hard. I hope she is better just in time for the New Year!

As sad as I am for my last baby (maybe!) to not be a baby anymore, I am excited for the new year. This year was rough with Jocey being so sick when she was born and then handling things personally... I just know 2007 will be great! Plus, we get to plan First Birthdays and their is nothing as exciting as that :p

happy holidays everyone!

it would be so fun to meet irl, too bad we're all over the country! although christy5599 and i did meet for a movie when the boys were just a couple months.

tray so sorry jocey's been sick. how scarey for you. i hope giving her the medicine gets easier for you.

heidi poor ben! i can't believe how sick he was. so glad that he is back to normal and he was home for xmas.

we also had a 24 stomach bug about a month ago now. luckily we didn't all have it at the same time, we were all about 12 hours apart. i don't know what we would have done. because when i was throwing up i was helpless. seems that dh and i had it much worse than james thank goodness. i did get really dehydrated and had to supplement w/ formula because i didn't have enough milk, and blew through my small freezer stash. and because of james' sensitivity to dairy the formula gave him terrible diaper rash so we had to switch to the lacto free. luckily my milk came back quickly.

tuni thanks for the update. i love the 'love myself' pictures, that second pic is to die for! can you update our ages please, me 31, dh 32. we have our 9 mo. wbv next week so i'll update stats then.

here are some cute xmas pics...
checking out his gifts from santa. please ignore the mismatch jammies..he leaked on the matching bottoms in the middle of the night.

JennW and everyone else, adorable pictures!!!

We have crawling! It was a pretty fast progression! He made forward progress on Thursday, started scooting around forward instead of backwards on Friday, took a few crawling steps actually forward on Saturday, and by Sunday, BOOM a crawling machine.

Sick babies: I think Seth has something. He was perfectly fine Sunday night and then Monday morning woke up with hardly any appetite. He had maybe 10 oz of formula the whole day. He was straining to poop and had a couple of "pellet" type BMs followed by a huge loose BM. As predicted, he woke up at 2AM and drank 3 oz of formula, but when he woke up at 7 this morning, he wanted NOTHING to do with the bottle. He has no fever and his mood is wonderful. Any ideas?

Birthday party: I am in full planning mode. We're having it on March 4th, so I suddenly realized I only have a couple of weeks to get invitations out. I am meeting today with the party lady at a hot dog type restaurant by us that has a party room. We're inviting about 40 people + 5 or so babies, so it wouldn't fit in my house. I started the invites, which I am having far too much fun with.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! I've been off work for a couple of weeks and it has been so nice! Tomorrow it's back to the grind.

Well for once we are all well in my household (knock on wood). We had a wonderful Christmas. Sean got way too many toys. I can't even imagine what our house will look like after his b-day. I've got to get going to on his b-day party. I need to make a list of everyone we are inviting so I can figure out if we can have it at my house or not.

Sean is having tubes put in his ears this coming monday. I really hope this helps him. He's had such a hard time with ear infections. Everyone I've talked to has mentioned how much it has helped their kids.

I've got a few pics from Christmas-

Another sick baby here.

Mackenzie woke up this morning with a 102. fever and PINK eye. She is acting normal though which is good so no crying sick baby.

We also found out she is allergic to pinto beans. She has them for the first time on Friday and Friday night we were in the emergency room with swollen lips, face and hives. I knew to give her benedryl but because it was her face the Nurse hotline told me to take her to the ER in case her throat closed. So We did and $100 dollars and 10 minutes later we were given benedryl and sent on our way. Oh well better safe then sorry.

Andrea~ Love the rocking horse. He looks so happy. Hope the tubes help

IUALUM~ YEAH for crawling.

Everyone else hope you have a happy New YEAR

Been away from here for a little while. My computer got a virus and I had to bring it in to be fixed. $200 later, we are back in business.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. Nicky got a lot of really nice things. So many toys, I don't know what to do with all of them. And with his birthday coming up real soon, oh my! All of us are really in for it. LOL

DH was sick for Christmas and I was sick for New Years. Nicky hasn't gotten it yet, I sure hope he doesn't. Sorry to hear about all your sick babies. Hope they all feel well real soon!

Nicky took a few steps on his own a few days before Christmas. I was so surprised as it seems pretty early for that. He keeps trying to go, so I am sure it is only a matter of time. Everyday he stands on his own for longer nad longer periods of time. It started out at only a few seconds, this morning I counted about 20 seconds. Time sure is flying.

Tuni Those love yourself pics are precious! They made me laugh out loud.

Here are Nicky's stats to add to the first page as I forgot to do it in the beginning.

DOB 3/24/06
7 lbs 13 oz 19.5 in
1 month 9 lbs 22 1/4 in
2 months 10 lbs 13 oz 24 in
4 months 15 lbs 12 oz 26 in
6 months 17 lbs 14 oz 27 1/4 in
9 months 21 lbs 29 1/4 in

His 9 month WBV visit went well. We went to a new ped and liked him. But he did show up 1 1/2 hours late and acted like it was nothing. So if it happens again we will be looking for a new one. We did like him though, so hopefully it was a fluke. He said Nicky's weight and height are perfect and I am doing absolutley nothing wrong and if anyone says otherwise they are crazy. I asked if he would tell MIL that? She seems to think everything I do is wrong. On Christmas I gave Nicky his bottle of formula to drink while I got his food ready. She went crazy about it and ended up grabbing the bottle from him and said thats enough. I said, I don't think so and gave it right back to him. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another fight we are having is his first haircut. He has lots of hair and needs a cut. I am trying to wait as long as I can, but he needs it. She told me I am not allowed to do it before his first birthday. Um, ok- it will be getting cut this month before she leaves town.

OK- must stop- sorry to vent in this thread.

Well, enough for now. I don't have any Christmas pics loaded yet. When I do I will post some.

Have a great rest of the day!

We just got back from an overnight stay in the hospital. DS just wasn't getting better and at 4:30 am Tuesday, we took him to the ER. His bloodwork showed he was extremely dehydrated so to the Children's Center we went for an IV. We're home now and he's feeling better, though we have to take it slow and easy on reintroducing foods.

Wow, we have quite the run of sicknesses here. The joys of our first full winter with our munchkins.

Happy Birthday kdotp!

Such cute Xmas pictures ladies. I have to say...we have some of the cutest darn babies out there.

So...I've jumped on the first bday party planning bandwagon. We're not doing anything huge. Just inviting some family members and a few close friends to our house. We're doing it the first Saturday in March. I ordered the invites last night - we're going to do a jungle theme...should be fun.

Where is the time going with our little ones?!!

man, I can't believe everyone has been sick! Sam was exposed to the virus over New Years, so I sanitized everything in sight. I just keep waiting to see if he's going to get it or not!

kdotp So sorry that little Grant had to be admitted to the hospital! Hopefully he will be feeling better soon! Im sure the fluids probably helped a lot! Happy Birthday!

lost Wow! THat is scary that she had such a bad reaction. Who would have thought pinto beans would have been so problematic??

Birthday Party
I suddenly feel like I need this thing planned now that Christmas is over and I have time to devote to it. Here is my quandry...

We want to have Sam's birthday on St. Patricks day since it's on a Saturday this year, and two days after his birthday. Everyone can make it this day except the IL's. They have a trip they do this week EVERY March. They had to miss it last year because of his birth (I can't believe they cared). So they want us to wait until the 24th. We can't have it the weekend prior either because they will be out of town then as well. We really don't want to change the date. DH said maybe we would change the date just this year, as long as they realized that Sam's birthday obviously isn't changing, maybe they could change the week of their trip (they said no, they like it this week because of St. Patricks day). So basically, we've decided to do it the 17th and go to their house the following weekend for their own party. Should I feel bad about not changing the date? I really don't and neither does DH, but I wonder if I should do it for Sam. It just annoys me that they are so inflexible and we don't want to do it this year and have them expect it every year, you know?

JennW

I'm sorry that there are so many sick babies here. :( Mattias has been healthy (knock on wood), but is experiencing a major bout of separation anxiety. DH & I pretty much have to be within his line of vision or else he freaks out. He's also getting up more at night :(. He's gone from 1 waking a night to 3 or 4.

Hi Marchmoms! Happy New Year, may the rest of it be a healthy one. Great new thread Tuni! This is my first post to this thread for the new year. We have also been dealing with illness -- double ear infection and fever (101-104). It began the day after Christmas. At first I thought she had a little bug and didn't go to the doc until Fri. I had consulted with the doc on wed. She would have seen her on thurs, but we had an appointment on Fri. I feel awful that I waited that long to get her antibiotics, but It didn't occur to me that she had an ear infection until probably thurs night. Then to find out it was a double -- yikes. The fever finally broke on Tue afternoon. I never knew it took that long for antibiotics to treat an ear infection!!! Poor thing. At least she didn't totally dehydrate, b/c she still hed wet dipes, so at least she was drinking some fluids, but I think we were close to that point. We are exhausted. For about a week now, she wouldn't lie down to sleep and only wanted to be held b/c the pressure in her ears. After the fever broke, we have been dealing with night terrors from sleep deprivation. Last night was much better sleepwise, but I'm still so concerned because she's just not bouncing back developmentally. She doesn't crawl now, pull up, or roll over, when before this illness she was close to walking. I know she has to regain her strength, but I pray nothing else is the matter. Also, I wanted to share with you this earcheck (http://www.earcheck.com) gadget that I got to check her ears to make sure the infection really and truly clears up.

Happy Birthday KDOTP!

Happy New Years guys! I'm so sorry to hear about all the sick babies, that is no fun. I hope everyone gets better quickly! We've been lucky that Logan hasn't been sick, it's all been DH and I!

The big news 'round these parts is that I'm going back to school f/t next week. EEK! I've managed to manipulate my schedule so I'm home during the days, taking 2 night classes and DE classes. So no daycare. But I'm still concerend about getting my reading/school work done. I'm a procrastinator at the best of times, throw a 10 month old in the mix and this could get hairy :p

Tuni: Great thread, thanks for keeping up with things here!

Revised stats: dh 33 me 34, also, Eva’s bday isn’t listed on the bday list 2/16/06

A picture to add to the front page.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/147/345738159_0d9c0adec4_m.jpg

Aging: Hmmm, I’ve tried not to think about it, but I’m seeing lines and my hair is like wire. Although, no signs of grey…yet. Dh on the other hand, not much hair left and what is left, it is all turning grey, but shhhhhh I didn’t mention that.

Low weight gain- Yes, Eva started tapering off and even more so now that she crawls everywhere. I will say though because she had to start formula she gained a little more than I think she would have if the boobs coo operated.

Weaning – I know so many were unable to bf from the get go, so I really have nothing to be too upset about being able to make it until 8 months. I continued to bf while supplementing until 9 months, then bam I just started drying up. By 10 months dd was completely on formula and I will say that emotionally I wasn’t prepared at all for the drastic change. It was more difficult than I ever imagined it being. It was so hard when she would cry for bfing and I didn’t have anything to offer. She knew and that is what killed me the most.

Sick babies: Oh my! I feel for all of you ladies. Your little ones are in my prayers; I hope they are all much better very soon. We haven’t gone through anything too serious. Both dd and I have had a couple of colds and I had the worst chest cold over Christmas and New Years. Now the stomach bug is going around our family. Dd had the vomiting yesterday and has had white bm’s this entire week. We have a ped apt tomorrow because of the fear that the bm’s might be associated with hepatitis and we want that ruled out ASAP. Trying not to freak out about it too much though.

Birthday party: We decided one party here in our home for the In Laws and some local friends Feb. 10th then a bigger party Feb. 17th back in IN with my family. I am getting ready to send out invitations and the photographer for our home party is reserved. Yes, a photographer. We haven’t done any professional pictures and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to capture the day and get family pictures taken.

DD made out well for xmas. Too bad she doesn't play with anything but a
$.99 maraca.

elenitsa - DD loves the Melissa & Doug puzzles she got.

amy - I definitely wouldn't feel guilty, esp if your DH doesn't feel bad about it since it is his family.

1st bdays - we are doing one at our house for just family and another the week before with 6 other babies that all turn 1 around the same time. I am nowhere near as together as some of you ladies - there will be no theme, no fancy invites. Just good food (for us!), a pretty dress and her favorite people!

Hi girls! I have been so bad at keeping up in here since we moved (went from DSL to dial up--ugh!). Plus, I unexpectedly started back to work in October. I have been playing catch up ever since. I should be working on typing up final exams, but I am here instead!

I hope to get back in here later today to try to catch up. But, I thought I'd give a little update on us before Kaden wakes up.

He got his first tooth Dec. 27th. He is crawling like crazy and pretty close to walking. He "cruises" everywhere. He walks behind anything that he can push. He is starting to stand on his own, too. He is growing up too fast! I am not ready for this!

He is currently fighting off yet another cold. But, we have very lucky in that that is all that he has had thus far in life!

He is STTN and has been for some time.

We are still breatfeeding the first and last feeding of the day. I ran out of expressed breastmilk at the 9 month mark exactly. He has been doing well on formula for his milk during the day. I plan to continue right up until a year, unless we start TTC #2 before then.

Could you update my age to 31 and DH's to 30 (his birthday is next week). Thanks!

As for Kaden's weight and height, I don't know. My Dr. doesn't want to see him until 1 year old. Weighing him on the scale here at home, he weighs about 20 pounds. Height? No idea.

I'll try to get back on soon with a few pics from Christmas. Kaden is awake from his nap.

Hey all. So sorry to hear about the sick babies. Owen seems to be doing better, though DH and I are both now suffering from the illness. Also I see two more teeth peeking through which is probably causing some of his misery. We're still battling with weight gain issues though we've increased to much more fat in his diet the last few weeks. Up until this current cold he was eating great. I think his poor weight gain may be partially the fault of so many colds this winter.:( But, with the slow weight gain we're also taking our time with the GM development. I am worried but just hoping everything is OK. Gotta trust my ped and just wait this out.

Onto fun stuff, I've made a design for his first birthday invites. What do you guys think? We're doing trains.:D:D

Yep, Pierson has the double ear infection upper respiratory nightmare the rest of our little ones have. It's terrible. He flew with a cold on Dec 30 and as of this past Friday, was majorly ILL. If it wasn't for Brooke posting that Declan projectile vomited from ear infection, I'd never have linked the two. Thanks Brooke! Anyhow, we are trying to recover before flying back on the 13th.

Will post XMAS pics then.

We've had a busy couple weeks of milestones- first crawling and then yesterday he pulled himself up a few times. Looked so darn proud of himself too.

Does anyone have this problem? I am having an increasingly hard time getting Seth to go to sleep, except for bedtime. When I put him in his crib he instantly rolls over and then sits up. I will try to pick him up and put him back down and he usually just does it again. And again. And again. I know his needs are all met, and most of the time he's EXHAUSTED, but again with his "trick". I've been resorting to rocking him to sleep, but I don't want this to become a habit. Any suggestions?

red_canuck
01-08-2007, 10:25 AM
No suggestions here IU, we're in the same boat. DS gets rocked to sleep every time. If you put him in his crib awake, he just stands up. over and over and over again. He has far more patience for that "game" than I do.

Looks like we've picked a date for DS's first birthday party, March 11th. And a theme - Superman :rolleyes: DH's choice. fun times.

01-08-2007, 10:35 AM
DS's schedule is all out of whack since being released from the hospital last week. He slept well the first two nights he was back because he was so exhausted, but now that he's mostly better, he's all confused. We put him to bed last night at 8ish (slightly later than his normal bedtime) and he was up at 11pm, ready to play! Not. Cool. Hopefully now that he's back at daycare, he can get back to his regular routine. I really don't want to have to go through sleep training again.

DS's first birthday party will be March 4. We're having a John Deere/farm theme. :D

DEFINITELY have the same types of problems. Its no biggie when he goes down for night (and occasionally his first nap if he's really tired) but I have to wait until he's pretty sound, otherwise he sits right up. Then at night when he wakes up (which has been 3-4 times a night lately because of teething) he stands up and so we have to go back in there to calm him down. Then once he's awake for the first time at night, it's VERY hard to get him back in bed. And with that, he's awake from his second nap so I should go.

teething sucks!!!:mad:

yby1
01-08-2007, 02:00 PM
I have the same napping problems. Actually, we just have sleeping issues all around now, but I have no problem getting him down for the night. The problem is that *I* can't get him to nap. DH can get him to nap just fine. The only way I can get him to nap if I take him for a walk in the stroller. But sometimes he wakes up when I try to take him out of the stroller.http://img117.echo.cx/img117/4209/smile0109il.gif His night wakings are better, but he's still get up twice a night. He doesn't seem terrified anymore (due to separation anxiety) and it's much easier to get him back to sleep, but I want him to go back to 1 waking or to STTN.

One milestone I'm proud of is that Mattias can now let himself off our bed or the sofa himself. http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/8399/thumbsup4kk.gif. Since he was 5 months old we started practicing letting him off the the sofa feet first. We really emphasized it once he started pulling up to stand. Last week, DH saw him do it himself. Since then, he's pretty much mastered it. Now I don't have to worry about DS diving off our bed head first. :)

this close...to walking!!! since xmas day james has been taking one or two unassisted steps until yesterday and today when he took about 5!!! he has the confidence, he just needs to remain calm to keep his balance. he gets a little excited and goes too fast.

jennw love the invites! great job!

birthday i think we'll have it at our house. not sure of the # on the guest list, but it will be family and friends. it'll be the day after his birthday on saturday and i'm thinking a brunch. for themes, i'm trying to decide between frogs, cows (farm), or zoo.

teeth we still have just the two, but it seems like he's chewing a lot, but this has been going on for over a month and the dr. didn't see anything at our 9 mo wbv. oh well. he's doing great w/ solids so i can't complain.

sickness other than our 24 hour barfing bug at the beginning of dec. we've been healthy (knock on wood).

red love that picture of logan on tow mater. does he love it? i was just thinking james needs a little ride on toy.

9 month stats - 20 lbs 11 oz (50%), 29.5 " long (80%)

JennW Cute Pic!

QOTD: We put away his exersaucer (he rarely played with it), his swing (he liked to stand by it and swing it himself, which wasn't safe anyways), and a couple other random things. We were going to pack up some of his rattles and stuff, but when we got back home, he was so excited to see them, and I swear played with each one, so we have them packed in a tuperware container so he can get to them if he wants. He enjoys dumping them out several times each day just to make sure they are still there!

A question for those of you whose kids sit well. Owen is doing well with sitting but after a few minutes seems to get bored with it and flings himself backwards or sideways. I am afraid he will hurt himself though I know he needs to learn his limits. Did your DC do this/any tips? Is it normal? I try and keep as few toys as possible in his direct vicinity so he doesn't fall on them but if he has no toys, he has no interest in sitting there!:)

It is nice to see us busy in here :) Jocey is still sick. The doctors are getting a tad worried and we have a chest xray today to make sure the pneumonia is clear. I just dont know what to do :(

sleep I count my lucky stars that both my kids have been self-soothing sleepers without crying or prompting. With Zoey by 3 months she just wouldnt fall asleep in my arms anymore and lunged for the crib. Jocey was still in the swing sleeping at 6 months old but right around 7 months rocking and swinging just stopped working. On rough nights she likes us to hold her until calm but wont go to sleep until we put her down. It makes for rough outings though since she hasnt napped in her stroller or in her sling in along time. It is fine if we are somewhere where we could put the PnP but last weekend we went to Disney all day and it was kinda rough.

birthdays Joceys party is on 2/11, her birthday, and I am going all out and with a Valentines Day theme. I am really excited since I tend to do bday parties for the first and then we just have our little family group get togethers for the ones after that.

toys As sad as it is Jocey doesnt play with much. Her older sister is very mean and takes everything this kid even looks at away. We have had her exersaucer put away for a few months and we out away the infant type toys.

Sean had tubes put in ears yesterday. I'm amazed how smoothly things went. He was back to his normal self last night :D

copied from my journal
Sean's surgery went very smoothly this morning. We got there at 6:00am and they took us back immediately. He changed into his little gown and I let him watch reading rainbow and then Authur on PBS. Around 6:25 they gave him some sleepy medicine. It was almost funny because he was acting drunk. He wanted to play, but just couldn't get control over himself to he just leaned back on me. He was also trying to wave at the grandparents and he couldn't quite get coordinated. At 7:00 the medicine was starting to wear off slightly because he was sitting up and reaching for the TV. They came and got him at 7:10 and the doctor came into the waiting room at 7:30 to tell us everything went fine. The nurse came and got us about 5 minutes later.

It was a little scary when I first held him because he was like a limp baby doll. I have never felt him like this. He was screaming and obviously very hungry. If I had known I could feed him right away I would have had the bottle ready. So I held him while Jason mixed up a bottle. He ate around 4oz and then the nurse gave him some tylenol. He was really restless and his ears were bleeding so we got some vasoline on cotton balls stuck in his ears to catch the drainage. Then his doc came in and said that he was very glad we went ahead and did the surgery. He had lots of thick fluid in his ears and he thinks this will help tremendously.

Surprisingly we were able to leave the hospital around 8:10 and were home by 8:30. Sean was in a very good mood on the way home. He "talked" to us all the way home.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers! I'm so glad this is over with and I really hope this makes a big difference for him.

Party plans- We have exactly one month from tomorrow before Sean is 1:eek: :eek: . I got into party planning mode this weekend. We're doing a Pooh theme party. I've got the cake picked out and invites. I've just got to get a menu together and other details like getting all the stuff for the party.

I keep thinking of this time last year and how it all has gone so fast. I know I'm going to have a hard time on his b-day. I miss him being a little baby so much, but definitely have enjoyed each stage so far. I do however miss being able to put him down and come back to him in the same spot. He's definitely got the speed crawl down ;)

tray Poor Jocey! :( I hope they figure out why she's still sick!

ajb I'm glad the tubes went well and hope they do the trick!

putting toys away We put away the swings and some infant toys (wrist rattles, gym, etc...). We still have the exercauser out -- we use it occasionally still when we want to keep him contained for a few minutes.

DS is army crawling now! Last night he figured out how to get over to the dog's stuff and was playing in the water dish! :rolleyes:

Hi mamas!

ajb~~I'm glad everything went well and really help it helps his little ears!

I'm sorry for all the sick babies:( Maura has only had the occasional snotty nose and it seems to be teeth related, thankfully. But it's still gross:)

We haven't put up any toys. Well, the bouncy seat isn't in use but is still out in our room.

Maura is working on teeth 7&8 and started walking 2 weeks ago. She's about on pace with Aiden in that department. Only difference is she started earlier (9.5 months) but was cautious at first...he just took off walking at 10 months.

Jenn, if you have one, put a Boppy behind him while he's sitting. Then he has a cushion if he falls back or sideways. They do this at our daycare, and I picked it up from them.

thanks ellybella! Logan does indeed love mater, he doesn't ride him as much as walks behind him or crouches and opens and closes the seat compartment. The cell phone is a favourite chew toys too. Best toy, and you can't beat the price! I wish it had training wheels though, DS tends to push it over.

Putting toys away - We havne't put any toys away really, but the ones he doens' tplay with just stay in the bottom of the toy chest. We've loaned out our swing and bouncy chair though to a pregnant friend (under dire threat to return them! lol)

Jenn, Logan still hates to sit, he won't do it for more than a few seconds. When he was learning i did the boppy trick as well, but of course he always ended up falling forwards and getting mad ;) Now he plays in a high kneel position, or rolls onto his back. Never sitting :rolleyes:

Congrats on Maura walking Shannon!! that's so exciting :D How's running after two kids? I bet you fall into bed exhausted every night!

Congrats on Maura's walking!!! I'm not so sure I'm ready for that one yet.

Jenn - One thing that really helped Nate with sitting was my mom had one of those big, thick, soft gymnastics mats. We weren't so afraid of letting him sit and fall back on that. After a weekend at her house he was sitting like a champ. Not sure I can think of anything similar, but if you have something where you don't mind him falling so often it might help.

Toys - We've put the swing, bouncy seat, jumper and exersaucer down in the basement. I'm also thinking of going through his toy box, though most of his christmas toys are too big to fit. We also keep a basket down in the living room that I rotate out small toys in. I just brought his stacking cups back out and it was like he found his best friend. :)

Nate has his first ear infection. :( He was just miserable last weekend, but seems to be on the road to recovery now. It's kind of funny now he will hide his mouth when I am trying to give him medicine. Once he tastes a bit he's fine with it, but it has to be a fight. He's been chewing his entire hand for the last few days so I'm thinking we have some more teeth on the way. (He's only got 2). His babysitter mentioned yesterday that she got a peak and she could see outlines of about 6. If he pops them all soon I can't even imagine the pain he's been in. Poor kid. Nate has also learned how to crawl a few stairs (supervised).

Hope everyone has a great day!

red~~You know, it's not bad right now. Probably because things are still pretty much baby proofed from Aiden being small. I find myself encouraging her instead of trying to knock her down like I though I would;) She's mostly walking as of the past few days and it's pretty cute because she's so little:) The only thing is now I lose her more often.

Hopefully all these illnesses will be behind us as we approach all the bday parties.

Jen: Yes, Eva did that when after a couple months of sitting. We had to move our playing location where we had all padded carpet. It was a pain, but there is really nothing you can do to prevent it. She got quite a few bumps and we delt with several screaming sessions from her throwing herself back like that, but eventually I think she just realized one day. Put two and two together for herself and stopped doing it. We also at one point surrounded her with pillows, didn't quite work because she started crawling around the same time. Good luck!

Phart: All I can say is WOW! Teeth 7&8, I'm thinking she might need a steak here shortly!

abj: Glad to hear everything went well.

Naps: I think we are a little ahead of most people here. Dd went through the same thing. It does improve, but I made the fatal mistake of laying with her to get her down. Now at almost 11 months, she takes her bottle and pushes it out when she is finished and totally crashes for her naps.

Sleeping: Not sure what is going on here, she had improved so much. Slept until 5am woke for a bottle and then back to bed until 7 or 8 am. This week we are back to 1am, 3am, 4:30am, and 6am for good. I am about ready to scream! :eek: Actually, I'm thinking she is getting the next 4 teeth all at the same time. I was feeling around this morning and there was significant swelling and one tooth popping through. Not to mention it makes me wonder if the week of the squirts and the fever she ran on Tuesday is a result of all this. I guess we will find out here shortly.

Q on Growth Spirts: OMG, I don't know if dd is getting her 1 year early, but during these night wakings she has sucked down 8oz each time. Today's total we are already at 38 oz of formula and about 1/2 cup of food for breakfast. This started at 1am this morning. I am almost tempted to call the ped and ask if it is normal. I've got a little piggie on my hands!

Toys: We packed the big infant stuff away awhile ago, but the smaller toys are still laying around the house because she still chews on most of them. We need to get some of this under control though. I plan to ship some of the old stuff off to grandmas house, so she has more stuff to play with over there.

Bday party: We are one month away from our 1st party too! I can't believe it. So much to do and not enough time!

On the Eva front, other than sleep she is doing great. Starting to make out words, she was saying "T" , meaning christmas tree and pointing at it. She says duck, but is yet to say mommy! Says ma ma from time to time, but not sure if she is really referring to me. She also pushes herself off the couch too. She loves to dance. Started this around 9.5 months, but is really getting into it now with her arms and butt. She loves playing peek a boo. Started this at around 10 months, but has mastered it and is hiding behind doors and furniture. She is definitely our source of entertainment at the moment.

Mackenzie has taken her first steps. I am super excited yet again sad. My little girl is growing up super fast. She will no longer let me hold her; she wants down, she wants to play.

TOYS~ She will not go in her exesaucer, as she thinks she is too big for it, instead she plays on the outside of it. We have given one of her swings away, and the other she has only gone in a few times. I tried it a couple months ago and she was scared! Other then that she still loves her rattles as she loves to hit things with them.

Birthday! Ours will be on her birthday which is ST. Patties day, but we will not be having a St. Patties party. I am creating the invites, and have ordered some of the supplies on eBay. I have calls out for a balloon clown to make animal balloons. Other then that I am trying to be creative about food. I need suggestions as we are having a “Little Lady Bug Princess Theme” I wanted to do bugs, but didn’t want it too boyish so how about a lady bug!

Teeth~ we still only have 2, but I am not worried, as I figure the fewer teeth she has the less likely they will be damaged by the bottle before bed. As she will not let me close enough to her mouth to brush them yet. As I am sure her gums hurt.

House Proofing, Lets just say our living room looks like a daycare. We have two inches of padding over our hard wood floors and huge gated circle. My DH was watching her and she fell and got a black eye so I came home and found a daycare center in my house.

Words~ She is can clearly say Daddy as she screams this when she gets mad. She can also say Ma MA, Dog which she calls OG, Hi, Bye, and her newest is IKA when she is calling her cousin Jessica. You can tell she trys to say more but the words will not come out. 

ABJ~ Glad to hear everything went smoothly with the tubes, I too had tubes as a baby

Shannon, Can I ask where you are making the video Montage

Thanks to all for your sitting advice. I'm glad to know that my kid isn't the only one who throws himself around when sitting.:) We go in next week for a weight check. He is def finally beefing up a tiny bit. He eats like a horse so I guess he is just blessed with fast metabolism, unlike his mommy.;)
Congrats to all your little movers and shakers. That is so exciting! We're still taking our time in our house which is fine as I hear all your stories. I guess I better enjoy these last days/weeks/months before crawling/walking gets me running around, although I have a feeling we have quite a while to go!:)
Toys - We have not packed anything away and it is getting to be a mess in my house! A good thing about him being small is that we get lots of use out of stuff (i.e. clothes we're still in 6-12). He is still using most of his infant stuff; I could not live without the swing! He still likes some baby toys but I think it's mostly cause they are small and he likes to bang them around and of course chew on them.
Tooth #5 & 6 are *just* popping out any minute now.:D
Words - He def calls DH "Dad" and he calls the dog "Bub." Nothing for mom.:rolleyes:
Video montage? - I hadn't even thought of this. What a great idea!
Birthday - We are doing it on his actual birthday, 3/18. It's gonna be a train theme. I'm doing a picture montage (1 year train, each car has a month pic of him) and a train cake as well as various other things that I am trying to pull together. I think I already posted the invites here.
Andrea - Yay for tubes! Poor guy. I hope this is the end to his (and your) suffering!
red - Glad to hear Owen isn't the only kid not crazy about sitting. At least he has some company!
Lets hope we're all healthy from here on out! No more colds! No more sickness!!
Happy Thursday, all! I cannot BELIEVE that these kiddos are almost a year old!

Add us to the sick kid list!

Sam has a double ear infection:( I swear the kid is totally acting normal though, no fever or anything. He did projectile vomit once, which got me concerned, and then he started doing this weird shaking his head/holding his head to the side thing, so I thought we should check it out. He's on antibiotics so hopefully it will clear up soon and that will help his sleep! (a girl can dream).

More concerning about the appointment is that Sam was diagnosed with a heart murmur. Anyone else have one of those in here, I forget. I guess his is mild but we are going to recheck it when we go back to check the ears in two weeks, and if it's heard again, will get referred for a pediatric cardiologist. Supposedly they are no big deal, but I'd like the expert to tell me that just the same.:(

Shannon - That is sure to be a hit! That is going to be so cool. I would be tempted to do that if I wasn't so crazy with birthday planning already.

April - Yay for a tooth!:)

amy - I'm sorry about Sam's poor little ears. Awww... I'm sure all will be well with his murmur. I have heard also that it is really no big deal. I think I may have had that when I was a baby.

I was talking to Seth's daycare "teacher" about his new trick- the sitting up in bed instead of napping. She mentioned that he does turn going back to lay him back down into a game. She suggested just leaving him sitting up. And sure enough, it works! He has cried at the most for 5 minutes and then PLOP! He decides he's tried, lays down (sometimes topples over) and he's out cold!

Add us to the sick kids- he got sent home from daycare today with a fever. Only 100.4, but above the legal limit (100.1) So we're having a sick day. At least it's Friday, it was nice to skip out of work for once.

Amy- I know nothing about heart murmurs, but I hope they're all right and that it's nothing serious. Thinking about you guys.

Amy ~ I had a murmur too when I was younger. I think it was still detectable until age 7-8. Actually it might have been first detected at that age. I had an ultrasound and they determined I would outgrow it. I think by 12 it was undetectable.

Many hugs to our mamas with sick kids. Hope your kiddos are better soon.

Not much going on in our household. G finally recovered from the stomach flu but now has a nasty, nasty cold! :( Poor baby. We can just tell he's not back to his old, smiley self yet.

He's still army crawling to get to things. His favorite goal has been the dog's water dish and gets very upset when we move it from him. :rolleyes: He's also discovered he can click his tongue and make "ffff/thhh" noises by blowing through his teeth. Last night when I was feeding him supper, I noticed tooth #7 has popped through and #8 probably won't be far behind.

Life is so rough for my Jocey :( I had taken her off her reflx meds a couple months ago and since then has had a chronic cough then a sinus infection then bronchiolitis then a lot of wheazing... we saw the GI specialist last week who got her restarted on the meds since uncontrolled reflux can cause cold symptoms leading to the other stuff we have encountered. We started the meds Saturday and the coughing has began getting better over the weekend. We had an appt with an allergist yesterday to rule any other problems out. They cancelled on us. I was pissed. The last couple of nights were horrific. I took her back to the regular ped just to make sure she was getting better and she now has a double ear infection. Ugh. This poor baby just cant win (either can mommy or daddy it seems)!

Wow. Had no idea. We took Noa off reflux meds a couple of months ago because didn't really seem to be helping. She's gotten a cold but now appears to be getting over it. Guess this is something to definitely keep an eye on.

We have the same problem with the dog water dish. That's all he wants to play with now because it's elusive. :rolleyes: I just don't know where to put the dish so it can be accesbile to our dog and not to Mattias.

My little man has started pointing. A few days ago I noticed that he would stretch out his arms and babble (cha! :p). I was wondering what the heck he was doing, then he was finally able to get his index fingers to cooperate and I noticed that he was pointing to our lamps. and birds and planes in the sky :cool:. Matty too scared to stand on his own, but he'll do it if he's not thinking about it. He'll walk using a push walker, but then he'll squat down and start crawling since it's easier.

Our dog is named Gracie and lately Matty has been saying "Gee Gee" when he sees her. Daddy is "Dada" which he's been saying for a bit now, but now he's finally starting to say "Mama," but lots of times he'll look at me and say "Maaaaaah." So cute. :)

Tray - So sorry to hear about Jocey, I hope that you both get some relief soon.

Well it's official! I am about to join the ranks of stay at home moms. I called the human resources person at my work last week to tell them that I wouldn't be returning when my maternity leave is finished next month (In Canada we have a 1 year, partially paid maternity leave). I pretty much knew that I wouldn't be going back and I don't think that they were surprised, but it felt good to finally make it official. The boys are starting to be really fun (when they aren't driving me crazy!) as I am sure you all know. This week we started a ladies time out program where they are in childcare for 2-hours. The first day was a little hectic getting organized and settled, but they did really well (at least no one had to come and get me because they were inconsolable).

We also had to go out and get latches for our cupboards this week because Nicholas has figured out that he can open some of them. I can't believe how fast they are growing up. We went to visit my girlfriend and her 2-week old daughter and I can barely remember them being that small (& she was 8.5 lbs). Time sure flies!

Congrats on making it official klm!
I only work 2.5 days/week now but once the school year is up at the end of May, I'll be a SAHM too! I've decided not to go back next school year. The money will be tight but it just makes the most sense for our family.

Okay, I am SHOCKED that we still do not have any ROs!!!!

RO's – I am SHOCKED about this as well. I was just thinking this as I was reading through this thread. Whenever I think about #2, I keep pushing the date back. At first we wanted them two years apart. That would mean starting to try this spring and there is no way I'm ready for that yet. I think now the plan will be to aim for 2.5-3 years apart. There are pros and cons to having them closer and to having them further apart. I change my mind about it on a daily basis.:p

Congrats to Shannon and KLM for your SAHM decisions. That is great news!:D

tray – Sorry about Jocey. Poor girl. I hope she gets better, soon.:)

Hi Girls!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I have been reading along.
We moved two weeks before Christmas, so things were extremely hectic for a while.
And now the computer is not in the kitchen, so it isn't as easy for me to get on and post.

RO's- Someone MUST be holding out! I remember someone a while back said they were trying- was it MCD? I'm not sure.
I think I wish I was pg again. So if/when I am a RO, I will not be holding out on you guys!! :D

Congrats to the SAHM girls! I love it! Some days are definitely more of a challenge than others, but totally worth the monetary sacrifice. I do feel extremely fortunate and blessed to be able to stay home with them.

Tray- I'm so sorry Jocey has had such a rough time! I hope she feels better soon! Let DH watch the girls for an hour and lock yourself in the bathroom and take a long, hot bath. (Maybe even with a glass of wine!!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Graham is just amazing me every step of the way. He has 6 teeth and seems to be working on 7 and 8. He sits with one index finger in each side of his mouth- like he is about to whistle. It's pretty funny!
He can stand on his own for a few seconds, and walks when we hold his hands.
I decided to start weaning straight to a sippy cup. I think I posted last time that he had started to wean himself a little. He is just too busy and interested in what DS1 and DD are doing, that he doesn't want to stay latched for long. And that hurts the bb's sometimes with those little nipping teeth!! LOL
Anyway, he started really eating a lot more food in the past month, so it seemed like a good time to also drop a nursing session or two during the day.
He has taken to the sippy cup pretty well so far. And he is now only nursing
in the afternoon, before bed, and then once (or twice) at night. He has been waking up at 2am and 6am, so I would like to get him to drop one of those feedings ASAP! At 6 he falls back asleep until 8 or 8:30, and then he eats cereal and fruit for breakfast, so he doesn't nurse again until the afternoon.
I am reluctant to give up the night nursing because it is my special time with him. He has just gotten so big now, it is almost comical to see him in the glider with me nursing! But nothing, nothing is sweeter than a sleeping baby face!!
His birthday party will be Feb. 24th, and I think I might be in denial that he is already one! With the all the commotion around my house, this year has really seemed like a whirlwind to me! I have one I'm trying to register for preschool, one I'm trying to potty train, and one I'm trying to wean! Craziness!
But very happy, wonderful, amazing craziness!! :) :)
Have a great day girls!!
Hi JennZ! Crazy, I was actually thinking about you earlier! We hadn't heard from you in a wihle and I was hoping all was okay. It does sound like you have your hands full but it is moms like you that are such an inspiration to me! I constantly hear how hard it is to juggle more than one but when I read your posts, I see through that into the joy it is to be a mom! So thank you. :) I, honestly, am not quite sure if I'm cut out to be a SAHM...I think it is the hardest job...but definitely the most rewarding. This summer I'll be anxious to get involved with some mom's groups and get to know other SAHMs.
As far as ROs, we're TTC in April...Tuni, weren't you sooner than that???
RO's- I'm another shocked one. I can't believe we don't have one yet. It definitely won't be me anytime soon if ever. I think I could be content with just 1, but then part of me wants to have a daughter so bad that I'm afraid I would regret not at least giving it a try.
Sean is doing just wondeful since he had tubes last week. I'm so surprised at how smoothly it went. I'm just praying that this keeps us out of the doctor's office. For the first time since I've been back at work we've been able to not see the doctor for a whole month now!!! I'm so happy. I think having him in home daycare has really helped too.
Last night he figured out how to do this- http://www.dropshots.com/day.php?userid=104736&cdate=20070116&ctime=191744
and we laughed at him so much. Who knew a clothes basket could entertain my kid ;)
ajb that is so cute! i loved listening to him squeal in delight!! love it!
jennz you are definitely an inspiration! somedays i'm so overwhelmed and frustrated with just one, i find it hard to comprehend any more babies. how do you do it?!
ro there has to be someone out there? i think we're waiting until july, we'd start sooner, but i'm scared to have a baby in the dead of winter here especially since i had the baby blues for a while w/ james. i felt like it was still cold and gray here in march. maybe it would be different since james will be older and we'll be doing activities, i don't know...
how fun klm you are officially home!! love that maternity policy in canada! and shannon you are not far behind. it is definitely fun that you are a part of EVERYTHING! it definitely has its challenges and i don't find it as easy as i thought it would be.
teeth yay! the top two are out and on there way down...finally! i do think there may be another top coming too. it has been a painful week! he gets so congested and has diarrhea, it really takes a toll on him.
ajb Loved the video! Aj is, too, fascinated by clothes baskets but instead likes to tip them on their side and crawl inside. Or pull clean laundry from inside out.
RO's I, too, am shocked. This must be some kind of record. All I know is that it won't be me first, unless we have an oopsie, we plan to space them out three years apart.
AJ's newest tricks:
Clapping, which he first did on Christmas Day, but is doing more regularly now.
He's learned to make this weird, kind of gutteral sound
You can ask him to "say Mama" and he will
He pulled up to his feet on Monday for the first time! (And not since)
Hi girls, hope all is getting better for the sick babies out there. Pierson's on his second course of antibiotics (this time we're doing Zithromax) for the double ear infection. He's got terrible diahrreaha as a result. Hopefully that will go away once the zithro is done.
Congrats to the new batch of stay at home moms - I must say I love being at home with Pierson all the time and I feel so lucky to be able to do so.
As for RO's, I only WISH WISH WISH I could be our first RO. Alas, that is not to be, given my circumstance. I'd love for Pierson to have a brother or sister -- and I just LOVED being pregnant.
I just can't believe we're hitting the 1 year mark. My doll is just getting so big and becoming such a little guy -- he's totally a toddler-in-training, no more baby boy :( which is so, so sad for me.
Okay, gonna check the little guy -- hope you are all well.
Big hugs and kisses, March mommies!
ROs We plan to start TTC next month (yikes! :eek: ). We were so blessed to become pregnant on the first try with Declan... never know how long it will take with #2 - could take a month, could take 2 years...and I want an option for a 3rd. :p
Sick babies... Count us in. 3rd ear infection hit last Friday, and I was troubled to hear him wheeze a bit last night, so brought him to Ped this morning. Diagnosed with RSV bronchiolitis ...not an awful case, and wheezing aside - he isn't bothered... Nebulizer we tried in the office didn't make a significant difference, so we'll have to wait it out and hope it doesn't get worse.
Have a wonderful weekend all!
OMG, all these sick babies! I'm so sorry! We've been lucky enough to just have a couple colds so far. All the sickness going around makes me so thankful that we went ahead and did her heart surgery in the late summer....sickness + heart defect do not go well together. ;)
Okay, I know this will sound weird but hey, I have to find every silver lining :)...you all are talking about your babies growing up so fast and not being babies anymore...well I am thoroughly enjoying my yet still immobile baby!:D She's been getting up on all 4s and rocking but I think it'll still be awhile before she knows how to crawl. Her PT is very happy with her progress this far which sure makes a mama so proud!:D
Yay Brooke that you're starting next month! I wish we were but I'm holding out till April cuz we have a few "life events" to plan around (dh job searching, us moving to a bigger home this summer).
Even though I'm not yet ready for #2 I have to say I am slightly jealous of those of you getting ready to try again.:) Plus, like Brooke said, I'd really like to keep the door open for the possibility of #3.
By Shannon: you all are talking about your babies growing up so fast and not being babies anymore...well I am thoroughly enjoying my yet still immobile baby!
ITA with this. I have a late bloomer over here and I am thouroughly enjoying his still being somewhat immobile. We have sitting, scooting, rolling and slithering:D, but no crawling, pulling up or walking yet. It's nice to enjoy him as a "baby" for just a tiny bit longer.:p
Shannon and Jenn,
Eat up all the baby moments!! It's not weird at all to be loving the baby-stage!
The good news is, I remember thinking when DD was born (my first baby), "She will never be cuter than she is at this moment"
I was so worried that she would never be as sweet as that first instant that I held her.
And then at every stage after that I found myself thinking the exact same thing!!
So now I know there are more stages coming that you will never believe how cute and sweet they are!!
I still try to savor and treasure every stage as long as I can, but now I know another precious one is right behind the one they are outgrowing!
Does that make sense?
(except now my DD who just turned 4 is suddenly sassy! Ah, but that is for another thread!!) :D
Here we still have perfect, wonderful, yummy babies that don't talk back!! :)
I have to agree, Savor the babies (Shannon and Jenn) I would love for Mackenzie to slow down a little. She has turned into a full out toddler.
I am being sent to New Jersey this week for work, and am having a really hard time with it. I have not spent one night without DD by my side. For those of you have spent time away, how did your children react. I am just afraid she is going to have a hard time. Guess just depressed about it.
Congrats on those Trying again soon. I wish I was in your shoes, but I too have too much going on. Our house is for sale, and Law School apps have been sent.
Oh well I hope you all have a wonderful week
Anyone looking for birthday invitations, Shutterfly is having a sale on their photo cards. I just ordered mine!
bday parties - what are ya'll doing for them? We're inviting family and our friends, some of whom have kids of varying ages (none DD's age - we're doing a group party w/ all the babies turning 1 in the same month). It's going to be casual, just appetizers/drinks in the afternoon. But I have no idea what to do about the kids. There will be 4 who are 18 months to 4 years. The rest are still lap babies. Are you planning activities? Giving favors? What about for the adults without kids?
First Birthday We'll be inviting kids that range in age from about 5 months to 4 years. Most will be babies, but we could have three two-year-olds, and one four-year-old if everyone is able to come. I plan on putting out a bunch of toys (I have a suspicion the 2-year-olds will find baby toys fun) and then I was going to put out some coloring pages and crayons and maybe some stickers for the older kids - I figure that will be easy and not too messy.
I have a question - what are you planning to get your little ones for their first birthday?
Feel like it's been ages since I posted, but am too lazy to scroll back and check, so might be repeating some stuff.
Piper is now a full-blown crawler, and wow, was that a slow process. You read about how some babies go from not crawling to speed crawling overnight? Not Piper. It was probably a 4-week evolution (lunging, to lunging a few inches, to this Quasimodo-type crawl with one straight leg, etc.) But boy can she motor now!
Our really big news is that we are, finally, seriously, looking to buy a house. We've decided to move out of San Francisco, which is a little scary, since we've only lived in major cities for the past seven years. Anyhow, I started a blog detailing our search, and if you want to feel really, really good about your own housing market (no, not you Brooke! :p ...or anyone else in coastal CA) check it out: www.tunibell.com (natch).
RO - First one probably won't be me, since I still don't have AF back. We were planning to try a little after Pip's birthday, but plans are obviously delayed at the moment!
That's all for now...I have more I meant to post about, but I must now go console my Patriots-obsessed DH. :(
count me in the disbelief category that we still have no RO! Like tuni, i doubt it will be me though since AF is still on vacation (and she's welcome to extend it as looooong as she likes :D)
We've been lucky to have a healthy boy here. Considering everything and everyone gets put into his mouth, I'm quite surprised! We did have Logan's next follow up appt with the Pediatric Urologist. The Pediatric Urologist reported that Logan's kidney is a bit better now than it was 4 months ago! Yippeee!! hooray!!! Huzzah! We don't even have to go back for another ultrasound till the summer. AND we get to stop the daily antibiotic!! So for now, all is good. Surgery is not ruled out for the future, but we're talking at least another year if we're uber lucky, and if his kidney continues to heal itself...well, I can't even begin to tell you how sweet that would be (although not the probable road).
I'm finally coming around to this whole first birthday thing. I'll admit I've gotten weepy a few times thinking of my little man being a while year old. I can't wrap my brain around that, i tell ya. A year? A WHOLE year? Impossible! yet...here we are planning a party. huh. And planning we are, a superman theme :D here's our invitation that will go out in a few weeks
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/red_canuck/Logan%20first%20birthday/smudgedinvite.jpg
and for fun, this is what Logan thinks of snow - ya...no :p
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/red_canuck/Logan%20month%2011/snowfallnight003.jpg
Logan's also trying to drop his second nap. I think. Anyone else going through this? He's taking a late rmorning nap, around 11 ish, for 2 hours, and then is a bear if you try to put him to bed in the afternoon. He is perfectly fine to stay awake all afternoon until about half hour before bed when he starts getting whiny. As soon as I nurse him in bed, he's out like a light. And is slepeing great at night to. So...I guess that's the end to my wonderful quiet afternoon alone time :p lol. I'm sure some days will be different, but it's already been a few with only 1 nap.
Another ?. Logan's been doing this fake cry/whine when we stop him from doing something, or take away something, he's not suppose to doing/having. The first few times I thought it might be that i was making my voice *too* firm, but now I don't think so, since he does it with Robbie's soft voice as well. It's really...early for tantrums, though, ya? I mean, he literally threw himself on the floor and kicked and cried. I stood there in disbelief! It only lasted a second or two, then stopped when one of the "iddies" (cats) walked by. It's not so bad if you give him something to replace what you're taking away, but it's still caught me off guard.
QOTD: What words are the March babies saying?
Logan's not much of a vocalizer, but he says "Iddies" for the cats, and dada. Has said mama, but usually only when he's mad.
Oh red, I LOVE the invitations! So cute!
Jocey is doing SO much better. Thank you for the well wishes everyone.
QOTD Jocey is older than all the babies here (except Sean ;)) and she is more vocal than her sister was. She says hi, cat, book, mama, dada, Ella (the name of her stuffed animal), baby, uh-oh, and ball.
GO BEARS!
Tuni- Seth's evolution to crawling sounds very much like Piper's. He still does the Quasimodo (great visual, btw) on the hardwood floors, but he can MOVE! Good luck with the househunting!
First B-day- We're having it at a restaurant, I plan to get the invites out this week. It's basically just family and some close friends, but that gets us to 40 people! So too big for our house!
10 month WBV was Friday: I don't remember the exact stats (how awful is that?) but he has moved to the 50th percentile for both height and weight, so he's slimming down a bit. The Dr. sees the top 2 teeth wanting to come in and gave me this interesting stat for those who are interested:
It's an average of 3 months to walking from the first time the pull up.
Not much else to say, except:
GO BEARS! We were at the game yesterday and I've never had more fun at a sporting event in my life!
We will have a kids, varying in age from baby - 9 I think, but mostly friends and family. Not sure what we will be getting Sam yet.
Words:
Mama, dada, woof (so glad he copies the dog- must get him out of the house more to play with other children), and off (he has the fisher price learning playhouse and learned it by turning the light in the house on and off.
red
LOL about the snow! I wish it would snow here so Sam could at least see it, but I highly doubt it will.
tuni
good luck finding a place!
Us:
Whew, it's been a rough couple of weeks around here. Sam finished his antibiotics for his double ear infection, but I'm not sure it's gone, because he still tugs at his ears. Who knows. I can't decide if it's teething (his gums are so swollen) or if I should take him in before his appointment next week. He doesn't seem to have any other symptoms. Thank you for all of your thoughts RE: the heart murmur. It's reassuring to hear that so many people know of someone that has one and it's no big deal. I'm sure that is the case with Sam, I just think I will feel better once the cardiologist looks at him and confirms that. The big news (other than his recent talking) is that he has started taking some steps. About 3-5 at a tlme. The first time it was very controlled, but now he gets so excited, he runs toward me and kind of falls into my arms. The developmental stuff is causing major sleep issues. If he wakes up at night, he stands up immediately and is ready to talk and play. And his naps have been shorter than normal too. Hopefully he will adjust soon and be back to somewhat of a routine!
First Birthday - I have no idea. I have a huge extended family, so If I invite one, I have to invite them all. Plus I have one cousin and one friend that also have March babies *and* I have two friends that have February babies, so I need to find to what they are doing. So it's either going to be a very small affair or a massive one. I just. don't. know.
Words - Matty says "Daddy" and "Mama" and "Gee Gee" for our dog Gracie. He also says "Eh-pa" for Grandpa (my Dad). I'm still trying to decipher the rest of the babble. ;)
---
I have another question. What kind of shoes are you buying your DC now? Mattias just pulls the Robeez off. He also loves pulling his socks off. He has a pair of vans crib shoes and converse chucks crib shoes, but the are a pain to get on his feet - so I want something with velcro straps. :p He's not walking yet, so I don't want to get him shoes with a hard sole, but he's close to walking, so I'm confused about what I should buy. Any suggestions.
---
Also, I know that we don't have any RO's yet, but my cousin just started making these cool nursing capes, so I wanted to pass on the link. :)
http://www.themilkfairy.com
---
eta: red canuck - Mattias has been trying to cut out his afternoon nap too. He hasn't really taken one in the past week. he also moved up his morning nap gradually from 9am to about 11am - he'll sleep about 2-3 hours.
Good luck with the househunting, tuni. We've been looking for the last year and a half. Yeah. Boston's no fun either. And to make things worse, approximately 1 trillion condos which look very much like ours are about to hit the market.
red - love the snow picture! Haven't seen much of the white stuff myself this year. It's kinda freaky. As for the napping, everything I've read/heard says it's too early to drop to 1 nap. I have a friend whose baby is a couple months older who went through what it sounds like Logan's going through a couple months ago. It lasted a week or two and then she went back to taking 2 naps. I hope Logan does the same!
AF - is a no-show here as well. I keep thinking she'll appear but nada.
walking - that is a crazy statistic, iu. It gives us 1 month until walking but she isn't showing any inclination yet. She doesn't even stand without support.
words - just dada and mama/mom.
Hope ya'll had a great weekend!
Birthday We're inviting immediate family only, so there will be approximately 12 adults and 4 kids aged 8, almost 4, 2 and 20 months (plus DS). We have plenty of toys/things to keep them occupied, so we won't do anything special.
words None. Still babbling dada and makes other noises (clicks his tongue, does fffttthhhh through his teeth, nanana when whining) but that's it. He also recognizes the signs for milk and eat.
shoes We have the robeez-style shoes (two pairs from Shoezoo and one from Target) that he wears. He likes to play with them before we get them on his feet, but once they're on, he doesn't pull them off.
pulling up Ha. If that statistic is correct, DS won't be walking anytime soon. Considering he still is working on the stiff-leg army crawl, does not get into or out of a seated position and shows no interest in pulling up, I think he's going to be a late walker like his cousin. It's disheartening to see all these babies who are younger than him surpass him in the gross motor skills department, but I just have to keep reminding myself each baby is different. He is good with fine motor skills, so maybe he just decided to perfect those first.
RO we discussed possibly starting to TTC in early summer to put approximately 2 years between kids, but I think that will probably be pushed back to fall or winter.
house We like our current house but know we will for sure outgrow it with kid #2. Not to mention we have no yard at all (corner lot). We actually found a house we really like in a smaller town about 15 mins away, but there's no way we can finish our improvements and have our house ready to put on the market within the next few months. The house we love has been on the market for at least 4 months with no offers, so DH is going to call the realtor and let her know that while we can't put an offer in *right now* if the house is still available in 4-5 months, we'd probably be able to at that time. It's an older house, and there doesn't seem to be the demand as there is for new construction, so hopefully we'll get lucky.
birthday party - we're having around 35-40 people and having it at home. no entertainment to speak of, other than our wacky families.;)
words - we have dad and bub (the dog). Nothing for me yet!:D
ha on the walking! We have a ways until we even get to pulling up so it is interesting to see that theory. I was worried about teh GM skills, but like kdotop said, they all develop in their own time and he is exelling in so many other areas I'm not sweating it.
naps - some days we only have 1 nap. usually around that 11 oclock time frame as well. then he'll stay up until right before bedtime when getting cranky. he goes down at 6:00 though so he's pretty beat by then.
tuni - good luck with the house hunt.
red - love the invites.
*sorry all about the messy typing. I had hand surgery friday.*:)
red AJ throws small temper tantrums when he's taken away from something. He's easily distracted but there's definately a mini temper tantrum there.
words Just "Mama." I think he might be working on "Dada" lately but DH doesn't really encourage it. I'm afraid if I encourage it, he won't know what it means.
birthday party- inviting 12 close friends/family...all adults, only one baby. We're doing a pink/green polka dot theme. It's so strange that so many of you are so close to turning a year and Noa only turns 10 mos tomorrow.
words- none, just badaba ;)
naps- still taking 2, although lately it's sometimes a struggle to get there. Yesterday I had to put a blanket over her head (a lightweight one ;) ) to block out the all the visual "distractions" in her nursery so she would finally put her head down on my shoulder and close her eyes.
Birthday: It was really hard working on the guest list. For the party in our home, we invited close family (In-Laws) and close friends. The party in IN with my family will be quite large. We are having it at a hotel where you can get rooms that open to the pool, so that will be a pool party! I finished invitations this weekend and they went out yesterday.
Words: Daddy, ma ma, doggie, water, tree (when the christmas tree was up), and what's that. She points more than anything and says things, but nothing else is really clear.
Naps: Eva is starting to ween herself from her morning nap.
Shoes: Robeez are the only type of shoe that stay on her feet and that she will let me put on her. She really hates any other shoe. She will cry until I take them off.
RO: Not until Fall. Anyone looking at their Chinese chart to make sure they time things just right? A friend of mine wants a girl and is swearing by the chart to ttc her next! I thought that was kinda funny!
IU: How awesome that you were at the game! I so want to come home for the superbowl, the parties are going to kick butt in IN given that most people there are either Bears or Colts fans!
House: When we bought this house (2nd buy) we knew this would be our settling down house. It really isn't big enough for 3 kids and us, but we are going to make it work. We looked at bigger houses, but I told dh there wouldn't be any love. I wanted us to be close for comfort. DH laughs at me all the time when I say this house has "Love". ;)
Eva update
She is all over our house. We finally had to get on the ball and finish toddler proofing. She is getting teeth 5-8 in at the same time. We had a major growth spurt two weeks ago. She was up almost every hour after mid-night sucking down 8oz bottles. I thought the poor thing was going to explode! After that she once again has regressed with her sleeping. This morning dh was up at 3am and she wouldn't go back asleep. We are exhausted! (insert sleepy face here) Despite all that, she is growing so fast. You can just see how eager she is to learn. It is really amazing and I too have had tear during the bday party planning. Making a video, scrap book, and the year clothes line thing. I see other moms holding their infants and I well up. So, who knows I just might be an RO sooner than I think!
Here are a couple pictures taken in our invitation photoshoot last week. She loves chewing on spoons and she wouldn't let me have the one in her hand. Needless to say every picture had her with the spoon!
Hi girls!
Naps~~If your child is trying to drop a nap and is getting craktastic in the evenings then I highly recommend moving the one nap to the afternoon instead of the morning. It'll take some time but even 15 minutes later each day should really help. Maura is in them midst of trying to drop a nap as well and thankfully it's the morning nap.
Birthday~~I don't have a clue who we're inviting. You guys are on the ball!
Getting around~~Maura walks nearly 100% of the time now. She's pretty little so it's cute to see her. People always ask how old she is when she's walking around in public (like at the museum or while waiting for a table at dinner).
Words~~Not a one. Well, sometimes we hear "ah-dee" which we think is daddy. Aiden barely had a word other than "no" at 18 months and also walked at 10 months so this does not surprise me:)
Shoes~~She has a pair of hand-me-down Soft Star mocs and now 2 pairs of Shoo Shoos and pair of Mary Janes that are a little harder but still pretty soft. I do love dressing a girl;)
Teeth~~8! Aiden had 16 at 1 so, again, this doesn't surprise me:)
Food~~No more *baby food* for Maura. She won't take it at all. She loves applesauce and yogurt but those are the only smooth things she'll eat. She loves chicken, salmon, lasagna, carrots, bananas, stuffed cabbage, spinach (I don't even really like cooked spinach!) and pancakes. She still nurses about 6 times throughout the day and not really overnight except for this week as she has a cold that she has passed on to Aiden and me. Boo!
Seems this might be one of those days when she doesn't care for her morning nap...
Owen has a bit of a cold but his cough sounded a bit liquidy so I took him in today (which is just as well since we had to go in on Friday for his weight check and it's easier to go on a non work day). He has a cold and the start of an ear infection. So he's on antibiotics for the next week. At least it didn't turn into a full blown ear infection!
But... the big news is: He weighs 16 pounds 8 ounces!!! He gained 1.5 pounds in a month which was what he gained the previous 4-5 months. Needless to say the doctor was thrilled and so was I!
Shannon - Owen is just 10 months last week, too! We still have a tiny bit longer until we hit 1 year!:D
Long time no post...I've been faithfully reading along though.
First things first...we are in the midst BEAR FEVER here in our house. Go Bears!!!
IU: what a fun game! How cool that you were there!
First bday plans: I've ordered the invites and I know we're having a jungle theme. Not sure what we'll do beyond that though. Everyone's plans and invites are so cute!!
Getting around: Ben pulls up on anything and everything that he can these days. He will occasionally cruise a few steps...but he's mostly crawling and crawling fast.
Teeth: 4 are through - don't really see any others coming through at this time.
Words: He babbles - mamamamama, dadadada, buh, buh, buh...but he still says them pretty indiscriminately. I think we're a ways off from the first word.
naps: he's still pretty consistently taking two. I'm just excited that we're getting more than an hour on a regular basis in the afternoon - Ben has never been a good napper. He will move up the next room in daycare at 15 months and at that time, he goes to 1 nap - I'm hoping to keep the two naps until then at least.
Jenn: yay for Owen's weight gain.
Hope our babies are getting healthy now - we had a rough December and early January.
We started swim lessons last week...they've been fun. Ben is warming up to the water more and more.
Jenn- Yay for the weight gain!
Tuni & Kdotp- Cute invites!
------------------------------------------------------
Sean will be a year old in 17 days :eek: ! His birthday party will be on his actual b-day Feb. 10th. I've got most everything finished except deciding on the food. We're having it from 11:00-1:00 so I'm not really sure what to do. I better decide soon though :D.
Naps- The sitter has been wonderful in getting him on a schedule. He takes a small nap in the morning and then usually sleeps from 12:00-2:00. He also is wanting to nap around 5:00 and gets very angry when he has to get up to go home. The sitter said she's been trying to keep him up for us, but he just gets so mad. We really need to work on getting him into bed earlier. Sometimes he goes down around 8:30, sometimes it's 9:30. But with work it's so hard. There just isn't enough time in the evening to do everything :(
Getting around-He has mastered the speed crawl now. He's also into everything!!! He has started pulling himself up and will hold on and walk around the coffee table, but won't let go.
Words- Dada and ba ba, but no mama yet. I keep repeating it over and over and he'll just look at me and say Dada.
Teeth- Two on the top and two on the bottom. I suspect we have another one trying to pop through on the top.
Shoes- He has two pair of Robeez knockoffs that I got from BRU and he mainly wears them. MIL got him a pair of baby nike's and occasionally we'll let him wear them, but not for long, because they are so hard and he can put them off.
Food- He's getting more and more interested in food. He has oatmeal or yogurt every morning for breakfast and then a meat or veggie and fruit for lunch. He's also still taking about 5-6 bottles a day too (30-35 oz). I don't think he's tried anything yet that he doesn't like. We eat mexican food a lot and he really loves refried beans. So much that he won't even let me eat!!
Yeah, I didn't realize they don't make envelopes that size until I'd already designed Noa's. :rolleyes: So, I'm mounting her 4x6 invite (it's just a 4x6 picture) on cardstock to make it fit the next size up in evelopes.
kdotp- I saw in LTD Commodities today that they have John Deere scrapbooking supplies. Thought you might like.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Naps- We seemed to have eliminated the morning nap. But he takes a great afternoon nap- so that's good.
STTN He was. But since I would say the beginning of November he wakes up at night. It could be 11PM or it could be 5 AM or anywhere in between. Always different. I give him a quick bottle, put him back in the crib, turn on his lullaby CD and leave. Takes maybe a half hour, but I wish he would go back to STTN.
Hair cut He is getting his first cut Friday. He needs it, plus MIL forbid me to do it. So I have to be a b***h and do it before she leaves town for a few months this weekend. Plus the other day when I asked DH where we should take him for his first cut his answer was- "next week". Pisses me off to no end that he allows his mother to call the shots. Not!
Walking We are there I would say about 80% of the time. He is walking all over the place. DH took a video on his cell phone today, but I don't know how to upload it to Photobucket to share with you all.
It for now! I am loving all the invites. They look great!
Adorable invites - what a creative group we have!
Bday party - haven't gotten our act together, but will be a small gathering for family.
Losthoosier - I'm so sorry. I've also not spent a night without DS. I already have anxiety over the conference I'll need to attend in Vegas at the beginning of April. Best of luck to you! Let us know how it goes.
Tunibell - good luck house-hunting! You remember what it was like in NYC…needless to say we're staying put in our 1br for as long as possible to save to buy in Riverdale, Inwood or Brooklyn. We have ~800 sf and we've seen 550-650sf 2-br apartments advertised…for $2800-3000 a month!! :eek:
Nap - DS dropped his third nap at 9 months and has dropped the second nap once or twice…but think (and hope) it will remain for at least another month.
Words - LOTS of babbling…mamama, dadada, bababab…but no discernable words yet. Concerned his reoccurring ear infections have affected this some, but I'm probably just paranoid.
Shoes - Robeez. I have a couple of 'firmer' pairs, but I don't like the way it affects how he cruises around.
Two steps Saturday night! He's starting to try and let go of furniture as he cruises…exciting, but scary at the same time as he's gotten a few bumps/bruises on his head as a result.
Another one for you guys: We're taking our first vacation in March. We're staying with friends and bringing a Pack and Play for Seth to sleep in. The only thing is, he's never slept in the Pack and Play (we don't have one ourselves) for more than a nap here or there at grandma's house. He sleeps in a crib at home, at daycare, and at the other grandma's house where he is more often. Should I "practice" sleeping him in there, or do you think he'll be ok?
tuni love the invites!! and congrats on house hunting, good luck!
tgal ava is so adorable in those pictures. how did you get her to sit? james wants nothing to do w/ his chair for his 10 month picture.
jennw yay for weight gain! i'm so happy for you!
kdotp those invites are adorable and your parent's farm looks like fun! my grandfather was a potato farmer, but his barn certainly wasn't as picturesque. james' new favorite thing is to push around a little john deere tractor that was mine when i was little. very cute. must try to get that on video.
shoes we really like the pedipeds. we have a couple pairs and have been happy with them. my husband thinks the elastic on the robeez is too tight :rolleyes: .
james is walking 50% of the time these days. he can now go longer distances, like across the room, with out falling. he can also correct his balance without falling. it has been a progression since xmas day when he took two steps. he first pulled himself up 10/23 so that statistic is close for us.
naps we still take two...thank goodness!
birthday friends and family, probably around 25 people. there will be 4 babies around james' age.
words he says mum ma, duhdi, and good girl (for the dog), guess we say it alot bedause he was saying that before mama. other babbles of bababa, nanana, ahgoo.
IUAlum I would say yes, start practicing. Both my kids have the pack and play for day care naps. My sister's DS does not. When we visit my folks and bring the pack and plays, my kids always sleep fine and hers not so well. I truly think it's b/c my DD is used to the pnp so it's no so strange when we take it on the road.
Hi girls - Have been keeping up with all the walking, talking and other general merriment of our babes. Before I forget, some XMAS of Pierson - however, they were taken yesterday. He was so sick on the actual day he didn't take his jammies off -- so yesterday Grandma staged a "Faux Christmas" so we'd have more pictures. :rolleyes: Gotta love grandmas....
and
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/142/369912598_7bdf6a8e02_m.jpg
Let's see, we'll backtrack on some QOTD's....
Birthday Party: It's going to be small and Baby Einstein themed. It's his favorite. Nothing too big - just bought their "First Birthday" Invites at Walmart, as well as some stickers to decorate the envelopes, plates, and all the general party stuff. We're going to do it at a place called "The Cookie Cottage" which is a totally baby friendly sort of tea room / bakery / cozy-couched hangout for moms.
Walking: Nope. But we pull up to standing and let go (timber........... :D ) for a second or two.
Talking: Not much beyond mammmmammmm babababa goooohhhgoooh.
PackNPlay: Over the holidays we were in NYC and Pierson slept in a PNP at the hotel. He really thinks of the PNP as a playroom so it was a bit difficult getting him to sleep in it but we muddled through. I'd say practice.
Naps: For the most part 2 a day, around 2.5 hours total but sometimes it's just one for 2 hours.
Haircut: If you can believe, Pierson has had I *think* five haircuts at this point, the first one at 6 months. His hair grows like ragweed.
Mommy losing her marbles: Oh yeah, one crazy thing ladies. I was at Walmart 2 days ago picking up baby supplies and a newly parented couple was in the same aisle as I was, trying to buy nipples. They had asked me for help in selecting what they needed. Their baby was fairly young as I took a peek inside the infant carrier and felt wistful for a moment. Once I had helped them with their selection I asked how old their son was. The mom said, "12 weeks". I lost it. Burst out into tears in the middle of Walmart, right in front of this couple. I have been SOOOOOOO emotional with the looming first birthday of my son it aches. He's just growing so, so fast. Anyone else feeling this blue? I sort of liken it to post-wedding blues. Did anyone miss all the excitement of planning, preparation and doing after their honeymoon? This is waaaay worse though. Maybe I'm just cuckoo.
Okay guys, that's about it. I'm going to scroll back to look at invites, check out Karen's video and make sure I didn't miss any important mommy stuff.
Lots of love to my March sisters,
Lisa
ETA....Karen, your video made me cry!! I am losing it!!!!
can this please go on page 1 for owen's pic? thanks!
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q105/jennwalkup/DSC04324.jpg?t=1169827408
separation: Owen does not have separation anxiety, but i think i do! is that weird? i've always loved to be around him, but lately it seems worse. I work part time and miss him so much when i'm there. When he is in bed at night i want to wake him up to cuddle and spend time with him (which i don't do). I think i am a big weirdo. Of course this probably has something to do with that whole wacko emotional thing that junk is talking about. I always missed him at work, etc. but it seems worse lately.:p
eating – what is your dc eating? We're still on purees but have started to add in more finger foods. He seems to enjoy picking up the food and trying new things and we're having fun with it.
tuni – how is the house hunt going? I peeked at your blog and those prices are nutso. I live in northern nj about 15 min outside of nyc and your blog made me feel a bit better about our crazy prices.:D
sorry everyone about the messy typing. Hand surgery last week and i can only do so much.
01-26-2007, 08:26 AM
JennW: *Love* your avatar!!! Our sons are the same! He has ZERO separation anxiety but I have it BIG time! I feel the same way about waking him up at night!!
Food: Refuses all foods that are not purees and / or oatmeal. I've read (here on CC) that his GERD and tummy troubles are the reason he's refusing table / finger foods. Anytime I try to sneak anything in he immediately gags himself and forces a vomit. :eek: I can't tell you how many times I've washing his highchair cover!!!
Shoes: Robeez - 2 boots and one pair of loafers. I tried to get him to wear the Primiggi boots Hanna had for the holidays - what a HUGE waste of $$ that was. Robeez are all he'll keep on. For those who have the knockoffs, do they stay on? I'd like to find a more cost effective option as Pierson is poised to outgrow and I'd like to cut back if I can.
Okay, I have an idea, wistful mommies. Let's post bellyshots of where we were at this exact time last year, shall we?
Ugh, we are having a rough time here. Wednesday night Sam abruptly stopped nursing before bed and refused the rest of the night. He was up from 1-4 screaming and tugging at his ears (which had seemed better up until this point). I took him to the dr and he still had his double ear infection, no better, no worse. So he gave him Augmentin, which is a more powerful antibiotic. He still hasn't nursed, and has hardly accepted any liquid whatsoever. I'm able to get some milk in by mixing it with food, but he is refusing all milk by cup and bottle as well. He wont drink formula, juice, pedialyte. The only thing we are getting in him is some water, but not much (he maybe had 10 oz of liquid total yesterday). He is still eating his solids ok, but has diarhea from his meds, and poops it all out basically. I am SO upset and worried that he is going to get dehydrated. The dr says just to watch his wet diapers. He has very few diapers (she said we should worry if it gets to be 1 or 2, which I think is ridiculous. His diapers are never full though. I really have to examine to see if he peed at all. I pray that he starts drinking again soon- anything at this point would be fine with me. It's so scary.:(
Just keep him in your thoughts.
Amy - sorry to hear that you and Sam are going through this. We've been on Augmentin a bunch of times (actually, Mia is currently on it) and it usually clears up the infection pretty quickly. Hopefully he is feeling more like himself (and drinking again) soon! Hang in there!
And now, this...
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a396/dec27bride/10monthpics012.jpg
Sorry to all the Moms with sick babies.. We had a really tough time with Augmentin too. The Dr recommeded putting, I'm sure this is spelled wrong, lactobaccillis, either in her bottle, or on food 3x/day to help with the digestive issues. You can get it from behind the pharmacy counter (but it does not require a prescription), it's granules that help put some of the 'good' bacteria back in your system. She didn't seem to notice the taste of it at all, and it did help.
walking-Arleigh is getting pretty good at it. She'd still prefer to crawl, b/c she can get places faster, but once she gets going, she can practically run from the couch to the computer.
talking-Just mama and dada, and sometimes baba, but she's not specific to the actual person or thing. What she has started doing though, is asking it like it's a question, 'mama??', which is super cute!
shoes-We've been lucky, b/c she doesn't try to take them off. We have a couple of Stride Rights (that Grandma bought b/c I can't bring myself to pay $35 for baby shoes :eek: ), and some Sesame Street Elmo shoes that I had to buy b/c she LOVES Elmo.
napping-On the weekends, I can usually get her to take 2 naps, but she sleeps like crap at school, usually only one nap for about an hour.
PackNPlay-We had the same issues as Lisa/Pierson. Arleigh thought it was playtime :rolleyes: .
Love all the b-day invites! We got some personalized Elmo ones from someone on Ebay. I just got them and they are adorable!
Well, I guess I spoke too soon on 2 naps, b/c she is screaming up a storm right now, better go!
Question: How much is your babe eating (either "cubes" or ounces) at mealtimes? And for those bottle feeding, how much formula is he/she getting?
aprilshowers
01-28-2007, 05:27 PM
Hi Shannon - before the solids-strike she's on right now, DD was eating maybe 1/2-3/4 cup at breakfast and lunch and a little less at dinner (and nursing 4x a day). But if I recall correctly she's got at least a month on Noa.
ellybella
eating we're doing approx. 3 food cubes each meal 3x a day when homemade, or i do a few half jars of food. somedays he eats it all and other maybe not, depends what it is. we are nursing between 4-6 times a day. there is also always something on his tray to pick at. i'm offering some formula now in a bottle or cup, trying to start the weaning process. unfortunately he doesn't like it so much.
I thought it smelled like the Augmentin until I started giving her the probiotic, then it didn't have a smell at all. I can't tell her diaper is dirty until I change her.
Question: How much is your babe eating (either "cubes" or ounces) at mealtimes? And for those bottle feeding, how much formula is he/she getting?
I don't measure her food, and she's a terrible eater, but I'd say she's eating the equivalent of a cube and a half per meal - mixed with some pastina or rice because she won't eat it if she can't chew it! She also gets veggie booty or organic cheerio-type cereal for snacks occassionally.
She gets 6oz bottles 4 times a day and usually once over night (sometimes none, sometimes 2). So that's about 30oz a day, but she never finishes a bottle, so it's probably closer to 25oz a day.
She is such a different eater than her sister. Amelia was taking 8oz bottles 4 times a day and sucking them dry. She also ate the equivalent of 2 jars of baby food per meal. She is still a huge eater. She loves food. Phoebe not so much.
eating~~Miss Maura is an eating machine. She seems so tiny (I think 25% on the charts) and eats as much as Aiden does sometimes. Seriously. She'll have no more purees but loves her applesauce and yogurt. She eats 5 chicken nuggets plus whatever else you'll give her. She nurses 6 times a day. It's crazy how much shes eats. Tonight she had a whole potato pancake, some salmon, veggies from soup and broccoli. Crazy, right?
OMG look at Piper!!!! Love it!!
My concern with the food is that I don't think Noa knows when she's full! She just keeps opening her mouth! Is it possible to overfeed your baby even though they're still wanting more food?
She gets 3 cubes fruit mixed with cereal for breakfast (equivalent of probably 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup). For lunch & dinner- 3 veggie cubes, 2 fruit cubes mixed w/ cereal AND a cube of either lentils or chicken/turkey. (Plus she snacks on cheerios before her meals to work on fine motor skills.) And on most meals, she's still opening her mouth indicating she wants more after all of that!
I've recently dropped her formula to about 20 oz/day to accomodate for her large appetite at mealtimes.
I don't know how much Matty is eating anymore. He pretty much eats what we eat, he won't eat puree's anymore, just yogurt. Yesterday, in the morning, he ate one Van's waffle with a little bit of apple butter, a container of yo-baby yogurt, and a chunk of banana. For lunch, he had some club crackers, chunks of asian pear in a mesh strainer (he won't eat apple any other way and he hates applesauce), and some roasted chicken (shredded). For dinner, he had chicken chili colorado (it wasn't spicy) w/ steamed rice and pieces of green beans. I nursed him around 5 times yesterday.
Shannon~~A little of both! Sometimes she turns her head or puts her hands in front of her face if she's done. And sometimes I just say "ok, enough is enough!" but I believe that most kids won't overeat at this age.
ShannonGH- I used to work as a paraprofessional in the schools and had many children with Down Syndrome. I remember a teacher I worked with explaining that children who have DS eat a lot and sometimes never really feel full. That may be why Noa keeps looking for food. Many of the children were over weight because of this. Whenever we had a party we would have to limit their food and keep an eye on them because they would steal more food from other children.
I am no expert and only remember hearing of this in bits and pieces over the years, but maybe you can talk to your ped or I think you said Noa gets therapy each week- talk to them also.
Shannon: Thanks for posting. sounds like Maura and Noa have similar appetites! Sometimes toward the end of a meal Noa will start to act uninterested and turn her head but a lot of times I just cut her off.
Do you stop feeding your babes because they eventually become uninterested or do you just cut them off after a point?
Eva gives us clear signals that she is done eating. In fact, she is growing away from us feeding her. At times she will opt for us to feed her a couple bites and other times she will only eat the finger foods we put on her tray. For the most part, we are now feeding her what we eat because we have thrown too much food away in the past two weeks. The other night, she had trout, asparagus, green beans and potatoes. She ate everything and wanted more trout.
I have to say though that I am shocked. Am I over feeding her with formula? She is still kicking back 8oz bottles. This week it starts at around 1am with her 1st waking, then 4am, again around 7am, 10-11am, 1pm, 4pm and 7-8pm. That is at least 40 oz a day, a couple times she doesn't finish her bottle. Should I be cutting that back (I haven't had time to read about this stuff lately) because she is eating quite a bit like the other good eaters here??? :confused:
Sean also lets us know when he's done. He usually puts his head down or just starts crying when we put the spoon near his mouth.
Tgal- Sean's still taking 6-8 oz bottles 5 times a day. I figure I'll wait to talk to his doc about it when we go for the 1 year WBV. I'm not so worried about getting him off formula or bottles right at a year. I figure we'll work on it slowly because he hasn't gotten the hang of a sippy cup yet.
Thanks everyone, for your thoughts. Sam is doing a little better. He nursed twice yesterday and seems to have more of an appetite. He's also drinking a lot more water. Of course today he's back to refusing to nurse, so I'm a little concerned over his lack of milk. He wont take it from a bottle or sippy either, and thinks formula is disgusting. He does have yogurt daily, but that's about it (doesn't like cheese or cottage cheese). Not sure what to do.
~~
Sam bats the spoon away or turns his head when he's done, and if he's eating finger foods he starts to throw it in the floor for the dog:rolleyes: .
Ugh. I lost my whole post. So, in a nutshell, Owen is a peanut but apparently also a pig!:D A typical day is 4-5 ounces of yogurt with oatmeal and 2-3 cubes of fruit for breakfast. Lunch is a small (2.5-3 ounce) jar of meat with 3 cubes of veggies. Dinner is usually some of our dinner as finger food and then a 2-3 cube portion of veggies. He also eats cherrios and various finger food from my meals. He also nurses 5-6 times a day still so on those days I have no idea how much milk he is taking in. We are apart two days a week and on those days he only drinks 12 ounces at daycare plus the three times he nurses from me. I'm guessing maybe 20 ounces or so? No idea how to tell for sure but I think that's a good guess.:p;)
Mackenzie eats a 2nd stage (fruit) jar for breakfast with a bottle (4oz) somedays and others its 2-3 cubes with cereal
Lunch is a 2nd stage meat jar and half 2nd stage veggie jar
Dinner is another veggie jar, and whatever we are having bites of.
She still does not take in more then 4 oz of bottle at a time so she gets around 5 of those a day so 20 oz of formula.
How do you get DD or DS to take the sippy cup. Mackenzie has no interest whatsoever and we have been trying since 6 months. I do not want her taking a bottle past a year old due to dental issues so I need to get her to take a sippy cup
Feeding: Nate's daily menu is toast (no crust) and oatmeal with fruit in it for breakfast, 1 stage 2 veggie with diced fruit or vegetable for lunch, yogart or applesauce for snack, stage 3 dinner and bits of ours. He also has cherrios and sometimes bits of cheese sticks throughout the day and 3 - 4 6oz bottles. When he's done eating he either cries or spits the food at us (And we really are trying not to laugh, but it's pretty cute).
Sippy Cups: We've been trying since 6 months. The disposable sippy cups seem to work best. Our baby sitter mentioned that they become easier to drink out of after they've been through the dishwasher a few times... I'm guessing that's true since he has no problem now. I'd really like to get him on a regular sippy cup or one with a straw, but I figure when we start with whole milk next week we'll do it in the sippy cup.
ShannonGH
01-29-2007, 05:08 PM
We bypassed the sippy and went straight to the straw with Noa too (because it helps with tongue retraction and lip closure...2 things she needs to work on).
To teach your kiddo to drink from a straw, buy the First Years Take and Toss straw cups (I'm pretty sure that's what they're called). A set sells at Target for $3. They're they only straw cup that you can fill with water and squeeze and the water shoots out the top of the straw (not great for a child, but GREAT for learning purposes!). I would gently squirt a little bit of water in Noa's mouth using this method and it only took her about 5 days to figure out how to get the water out on her own. Once they've learned how the straw works, I'd recommend getting a different straw cup though b/c the Take & Toss variety create a vacuum when you suck so it's hard to take consecutive sucks. HTH!
When he's full, he will continue to open his mouth, but he will be "less enthusiastic" if that makes sense. I have cut him off before.
ShannonGH - For lunch and dinner, my girls split a stage 3 veggies or meats and another stage 3 fruits. They also drink an 8 oz bottle and eat cheerios, a string cheese, and half a banana.
Some days, they put their hands in front of their mouths and I know they are full....others, they cry for more food...and I have to get creative. But, most of the time they are fine with that amount of food.
Comparing to everyone else...they sounds like little porkers ;) .. Believe it or not, they are almost a year old and not 20 lbs yet.
Cups - I chose to bypass the sippy. Two of my cousins, one is a speech pathologist and the other is registered dietitian, told me that straws help to strengthen the facial muscles and help kids talk sooner. I just offered to them and after a week or so, they got the hang of it.
I bought these Nubys...because of the soft straw and because of the handles.
Eating - Piper's eating patterns have gone to hell in a hand basket in the last few weeks. It is so frustrating. She used to eat any puree I put in front of her - generally two veggie or fruit cubes plus a whole grain porridge. But these days, it's anyone's guess. Sometimes she'll eat purees still, but more often than not she only wants food she can feed herself, and she'd greatly prefer that those foods only be cheese, avocado, and whole grain bread with almond butter. :rolleyes: I spent all weekend cooking up a storm of things I hoped she'd like - butternut squash sauteed in butter and sage, meatballs in a tomato sauce, vegetable korma, etc. But no love. I have to say, I find the whole feeding issue to be one of the most stressful aspects of parenting. For dinner tonight, she was offered cheese cubes, broccoli sauteed in butter, a whole wheat biscuit, and homemade yogurt-polenta pancakes with blueberry jam. She ate the cheese and very daintly picked all the blueberries out of the jam. :(
Cups - We use the Playtex sippy cups, and she does a great job. Her one major problem is that she always tries to drink with the cup upside down (i.e. the spout on the far end), and one of use has to turn it around for her.
Shannon - I have some similar Nuby cups ( with straws and without) and you do have to bite and suck to get them to work (I had to try them for myself when the boys didn't seem to be able to get anything out of them). I think that they are difficult to use (it took me a while to figure out how to use them!) We've only been using them a couple of days and I keep giving them to the boys to practice, but I don't think they have it totally figured out yet. Hopefully they will figure them out because they seem like a great idea and a good transition from a bottle.
tuni - we are having similar issues with Matty's eating habits. That's why he just eats what we eat now. I would try to make a special menu for him and he wouldn't eat it. I finally gave up on that because it was so much extra work. He'll can only be spoon-fed two things - yogurt and my Mom's chicken veggie soup. He won't eat veggies - I chop them up and he won't touch them - He'll eat chicken, noodles, crackers, and corn on the cob without hesitation. We got these whole wheat flour tortilla chips at Whole Foods and he went to town on those, Matty loved them w/ hummus - but he wouldn't touch the pieces of Asian pear I gave him. I put one in his mouth and he just spit it out. Oh well. We just have to keep on trying.
Sippy cups - We gave her a variety to try. She took to the straw immediately, so we stuck with that. Now she carries my waterbottle around and won't use hers. Her latest game is to suck out as much water into her mouth and spit it all out. She thinks this is hilarious. We are giving her a regular cup when she eats, but we assist with that. Maybe it is time to start transitioning away from the bottle. She won't hold the bottle by herself and when she does she doesn't tilt it back she tries to suck out of the nipple. I was just worried she wouldn't drink enough formula if we transitioned.
tuni - Is your homemade porridge the "recipe" from SBF? DD gets that every morning but will only eat it if we give her a spoonful of her own to play with while we spoon-feed her. I think she thinks she's feeding herself (and every once in a while she'll actually get hers in her mouth before the porridge has fallen off). She also does the same thing w/ the sippy cup. Eventually she figured out how to turn it but still starts with it upside down so she ends up with one arm wrapped around the top.
sippies - DD never really took to a bottle so we started sippies early. We use the Take-and-Toss ones and she's pretty much mastered it by now but we've offered it with every meal since 6 months.
He's taking to liking our food off our fingers (holy bat habit batman, but what can you do?! lol) but that doesn't add up to much. I'm not too worried about his eating, he'll eat when he's good and ready. He's growing, and that's what matters!
Shannon, I used to "prime" the straws a bit and then give it to them. By prime I mean, I sucked on the starw until the liquid came out. Then, all they had to do was suck. Now, that they have used a few times, the hole is bigger and it works just fine. But, yeah...I had to help, big time in the beginning.
Anyone else that has a plan, I'd like to hear it! Her ped said one bottle a day of straight milk, and then go from there, but I'm lacking in details b/c DH went to that appt. I know I can just call, but you all give such great advice, I'll start here. ;)
Switching to Whole Milk - I'd love to hear plans, too. Most everyone I know was able to breastfeed, so they have no advice on switching from formula to whole milk! I'm guessing you introduce it gradually, but should you do one bottle at a time, or do you mix formula with milk?
dec27bride/Tracie: A friend of ours has a daughter who is a month older so I'm taking advice from what worked for her. What she did was mix 3/4 formula with 1/4 milk for a week, the went to 1/2 and 1/2, then 1/4 formula with 3/4 milk, then all milk. I also figured I'd start putting just milk in his sippy cups and see how that goes. The one thing I'm a little confused on is how much milk they need a day. Currently he has 3 - 4 6oz bottles, I'd like to cute out the early morning bottle (which only he only wants from time to time). As you can tell I don't have a great plan for what I'm going to do, but I'll keep you posted as the week goes by. Hope this helps.
All my friends have done it this way and were successful. One of these friends noticed the lactose intolerance immediately with the 1st bottle, the milk went right through him. So, dh and I are comfortable introducing milk this way. Also, I thought I saw a thread on this topic awhile back.
Does the same apply for BFing? DS is exclusively BFd, but given bottles of pumped BM while I'm at work. I am not sure about when I will wean in the AMs and PMs, but will definitely transition to whole milk while he's at school. Can I do the same with BM? Can you mix BM and cow's milk? Maybe I better ask the BFing thread as well...
I was planning on mixing too Heidi, at least unless I hear a horror story! DS actually switched to a sippy at daycare this week for his BM. We decided to try it to see how he did (he just plays with the cup when it has water in it) and he sucked it right down! So I think he may be officially off the bottle! I'm going to shoot for closer to 12 months I think to start the whole milk in but I'm psyched to soon be able to leave my pump at home!
DS pulled himself up today for the first time! Looks like our time enjoying our "baby" is coming to a close... so sad!
I was all set to wean but we went straight to milk and she never blinked an eye. Just a thought to maybe at least try it first right
Same thing happened with DD! We were all set to do the mixing method over the course of a couple weeks, and we thought we'd try a sippy cup of whole milk and just see what happened. She drank it like a champ and never went back to formula. (or the bottle)
So I think it's definitely worth trying to switch straight to whole milk- unless of course you have lactose issues.
DS1 took to the milk right away, but we couldn't get him off the bottle until 18 months. :eek:
Now with DS2, he is EBF, no bottles. So we are weaning straight to a sippy cup of whole milk. At first he would only take a few sips, but now he is drinking about 4 ounces at a time- 3 times a day (or so).
Still nursing three times a day, but only for a short time. I'm sure my supply has tanked since AF finally showed up this month. :rolleyes:
Our ped said 16-24 ounces of whole milk a day. So I figure we must be close to that with the combo of whole milk and BM!! HTH!! :)
Hi everyone! Quick update, because, believe me, I could write a novel:
Sam is doing better! He finally started nursing again regularly on Monday or Tuesday I think. I guess the one advantage of the nursing strike is that he now sleeps through the night most nights, and doesn't require that extra middle of the night feeding!
He still has the ear infection in one of his ears. Basically, I hate my pediatricians. They were totally unhelpful and unconcerned about the dehydration issues, and they put him on Augmentin, despite my telling them that I am allergic to Penicillin, as well as several family members. Well, he had an allergic reaction (I feel like I'm the dr in this relationship, I know more than they do). So, now he is on a THIRD antibiotic, because the right ear isn't cleared up yet. So the poor kid has been on antibiotics for a month basically. The dr I saw yesterday to verify that it was an allergic reaction, was such a jerk about it, I decided to switch pediatricians. We are doing his ear followup at a new dr, that comes highly recommended. I guess it turns our our neighbor went to our current dr, but hated him and he actually misdiagnosed ear problems to the point that their son almost went deaf, and when they switched to their new dr, the receptionist said "Oh, another one of Dr. B's patients." So I feel great about switching, and hope that Sam is feeling better soon. I just have to call and ask for his records. I want DH to do it, and tell them off in the process, because he's so good at that! Or maybe we should wait for that until we have records in hand.
I wouldn't say it's better, it's just different. Greek yogurt is thicker and creamier. They also use a straining process to remove whey, so that means greek yogurt is better for cooking, you would have to strain regular yogurt first.
