My husband has very dry, cracked hands and hasn't been able to find a lotion or cream that really heals them well. He's picky about not feeling greasy afterwards - he doesn't like having to sit and wait for it to soak in. Any suggestions on something he might try? I want to get him a few for stocking stuffers.

Thanks!

L'Occitane has a wonderful (unscented) hand lotion. You might try that. It's very rich and doesn't leave any greasy residue - just softness.

But your husband might need to exfoliate first (get the dead skin removed).

I've heard good things about GoldBond too.

I also have no patience for waiting for the lotion to soak in and HATE the greasy feeling. I'm not sure how your husband feels about fragrance but here are some of my favorite hand creams:

Origins Make a Difference hand cream is my absolute favorite ever! and it has the most pleasant citrusy but not too fruity fragrance.

This one isn't really a hand cream but it's a super thick (lots of shea butter) body cream from Bath and Body Works' True Blue Spa line. This one can leave a greasy feeling if you use too much of it, a little bit goes a long way. Also, the smell can be a bit overwhelming to some. It's a summery coconut smell, think suntan oil of the pre-sunscreen days.

I use unscented Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream. You can find it practically anywhere. A little certainly goes a long way, and it's the only thing I've found that is reasonably priced that really soothes dry hands for quite a while.

I was just going to recommend the same brand. I love this hand lotion!

My favorite is Aveda's Hand Relief.

I love Kiehl's Creme de Corps. The Aveda Hand Relief is good, too, I just don't like the smell.

I've been using Aveeno for a couple of years and really like it. Dh uses it too. Not oily and no scent, but it works well.

Omgosh - THANK YOU! I'd forgotten about this stuff - it's goooooood. I had a tiny little bit of this (it was in one of those plastic thingees that you store watercolor paint in - like the size of a thimble with a cap) and it lasted for WEEKS - and I used it EVERYDAY!

I need to go and get some of this today.

A good thing to do with any hand cream to to apply it right after you wash your hands when they are damp so that the cream/lotion seals in the moisture. When you put it on hands that are already dry it doesn't do that much...... when you add it over moisture it really really helps.

I'll add my vote - DH has a problem with eczema on his hands, and this is the only non-prescription product that helps. It's not greasy, either.

Mary Kay Satin Hands is fabulous stuff (although I think I like their Satin Lips lip exfoliator EVEN MORE). My dry-hands DH goes through it like mad.

Gold Bond Ultimate Healing works really well for me. I handle paper all day at work and it makes my hands very dry.

I will recommend one that hasn't been mentioned yet. My sister has severe rheumatoid arthritis which has somehow managed to complicate an existing dry skin condition, which has resulted in her skin being so dry that all she has to do is rub it the wrong way and it cracks and bleeds. It took her and I over a year of experimenting with different lotions before I found Burts Bees for her. It worked miracles for her and plus leaves no yucky residue. Her favorite is actually Burts Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion.

I'll second that recommendation. My cousin used it a few years back and it worked wonderfully for her. I've used it as well and love it as well. I've even used it on my feet when they've been really dry and needed some extra moisturizing.

One of my favorites in the winter is the Body Shop's Hemp Hand Protector. It really makes my dry hands feel better, and after a few seconds, it dries to a powdery feel. It'd be great for a guy, too, as the smell isn't very strong and not flowery. It's pretty concentrated as well. IIRC, they sell it in both a large tube ($16) and a small travel-size tube ($4 or $5).

I have to second Aveda's Hand Relief - love it!

I work in healthcare and wash my hands so many times a day. I swear by Kiehl's "Unusually Rich-But Not Greasy At All-Hand Cream with SPF 10"

Hands down (no pun intended :D ) my favorite hand cream is Sally Hansen Radiant Hands, Nails and Cuticle cream. I am super picky about feeling greasy and this stuff absorbs instantly and does not feel greasy at all. I don't even notice it's on there until I go to wash my hands and then I realize I have washed off the "shield" that's been protecting my hands. It smells like fresh citrus so it's not flowery or anything for a guy.

It's very inexpensive and available at Target. I've seriously tried a ton of expensive hand creams like L'occitane, Khiels and such and the Sally Hansen is the best I have found.

I think my absolute favorite creme especially made for hands would have to be:

http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/graphics/product_images/pBBW1-2541948dt.jpg

It smells fresh (gender neutral scent) and works like an absolute charm!

I've also heard really good things about Bathed And Infused (http://www.bathedandinfused.com)'s Honey Dream Hand Cream:

I really like Avon's silicone glove- it's not greasy, makes your hands super soft, and is cheap! Right now on the Avon website it's $1.79 for 4 oz and you don't need to use a lot....

For whatever reason, my index fingers and sometimes my knuckles on my middle fingers get extremely dry (to the point of peeling an cracking) and this is the only thing I've found that helps. It's also organic if you're into that kind of thing.

Another vote for the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. My DH used to work outdoors and in the winter his hands were horribly dry and cracked. He hated lotions, but this stuff helped immensely. A paraffin wax dip is also helpful too.

I use H2O Hand and Nail Cream

It's lightweight, non-greasy and silky.
