I'm not aware of any other places to donate your hair. I have done it twice and it was always with Locks of Love.

What a great thing you are doing!!

Recently, LOL has come under criticism, for various reasons. I looked around a little bit after someone brought this up in a previous CC thread. Of course I can't find where I read about it then, but this site (http://www.squidoo.com/locksoflove/) explains some of the criticisms, as well as other suggestions for what to do with it.

They point to this site (http://www.hairwork.com/bidhere.htm), where people are selling their hair. Looks like some people have gotten as much as $2400 for their hair. Hmmm...

I know, I saw that. Which is cool - free market, buyers, sellers, yadda, yadda. BUT part of me wonders if there's some sub-market for fetish or something b/c people are requesting videos of the hair being cut, and then the actual hair. Ew...

Or maybe it's a voodoo doll thing. I agree, lots of potential creepiness going on there.

Wow, interesting site with the hair selling thing. Gotta say that is something new to me. I know that there are a lot of things that people sell for fetish reasons (used socks & underwear/well worn things) but I hadn't heard about this one.

Actually, now that I think on it I do remember hearing something about people selling hair cutting videos where the people are crying having their hair cut and stuff like that.

i had heard the "controversy" about locks of love not donating to cancer victims. i hadn't heard the claims that they actually make very few wigs.

i've tried googling, and the only other place i can find is "wigs for kids".

i was still kind hoping to find a place where i could donate my hair for adult wigs.

the whole idea of selling my hair and having someone videotape it - that really freaks me out.

I know very little about this, but it sounds like it might be what you were looking for, and I saw Diane Lane cut her hair on the today show for the same group...

i ended up cutting my hair for donation friday. i kept putting it off - i was really paranoid that i was going to end up bald! but i still have decnet length after the 8" was cut off.

i ended up mailing my hair to pantene beautiful lenghts - the link that nettie posted.

here is my before and after picture. the after is this morning after i woke up and before i showered - though i still think i got a lousy cut.

Congrats on the new cut! I donated to LOL almost 3 years ago, and I may donate to Beautiful Lengths when I am ready to cut it off again. It's hard to tell how the cut is from your pic, but your hair is beautiful! So shiny. :)

I donated my hair to Locks of Love back in December. My hair wasn't all that long but I did have enough to donate to make a childs wig.
