DD is 2 weeks old and has her days and nights mixed up. Can anyone help? We are trying to keep her awake during the day but it doesn't really seem to be helping.

One thing I was told was to try to keep it very light during the day and then to begin darkening at night. I know your little one is very young but it is worth a shot!

My DS did the same thing for the first few weeks. It's very hard! He did eventually straighten them out, probably by about 3-4 weeks old.
I think with time your DD will adjust but in the meantime like tray622 suggested keep her around light during the day and keep things really quiet and dark at night. Also let her nap in a room with light and activity so eventually she'll figure out that all the "fun" happens during the day.
Babies aren't born with biological clocks like ours, after all it was dark in the womb all the time! It just takes some time for them to sync with ours. In the meantime it is very exhausting but she's already 2 weeks old so I bet before long things will improve ;)

Something else you can try is to take her to a bright window upon first waking in the morning, and holding her there for a few minutes. Someone suggested that to me with DD and it seemed to work...but again, she was a few weeks old before she got it figured out. HTH!

Thanks Seb's Kitty. I think she will get it eventually. Just makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. Thanks.

We had the same problem. A pediatric nurse I work with suggested that we make sure to feed him every 2-3 hours during the day, and wake him up if it's time for a feeding and he's still asleep. When we started doing this (about 4 weeks maybe?) he started sleeping for longer stretches at night.
We also started him on a bedtime routine right from the beginning. It didn't take him long to completely switch. And he started sleeping through the night at three months!
