View Full Version : Doll Houses
We're buying Christmas presents this weekend for the family we "adopted". The six-year old girl wants a doll house. Does anyone have any suggestions for a doll house that would be good for a child that age? The only kids I am around much are infants and toddlers, and I don't want to buy something that is age-inappropriate. Also, we can't spend a ton of money on it since we want to be able to get her some clothes as well--we would prefer to spend less than $75, though we are somewhat flexible. Ideas? Thanks!

i can't find the ones that i was thinking of, but here are a few i found. i think it's hard to find any for kids that age, they can be so expensive.

are you guys handy at all? http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?SEC_IID=20496&PAGE=ENDECA&SearchType=HP_Header&N=0&keywords=dollhousehas a bunch of kits, you could put it together and then give her painting supplies so she could "decorate" herself. eta: looks like jo-ann has kits too.
this one is only $33 - it says limited quantities. (http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=35429)

this kidcraft one is up to age 8, maybe it would work for you. it's around $80 on amazon, but you could froogle it and try to find a better price.

$85, but looks like it would work really well for a 6 yo.

one more thing... i saw a thread on another site that mentioned there was one in tuesday morning's ad... and someone suggested checking http://www.dollhousesgalore.com/ for deals.
Thank you so much, Linda!
The KidKraft one and the one from simplycheap.com both look great. And I am glad to hear you say that the Fisher Price Loving Family one might be too young--I was wondering about that one. I would be fine with assembling a kit, but we have to drop off the gifts at a central location for transport to the family, and I am not all that confident that an assembled wooden dollhouse would arrive unscathed. I think it would be better to be able to give it still in the box, and I don't want to give her something that requires a lot of assembly with adult help not knowing more about her family situation.
If anyone has any other input, I'd love to hear it.

Your welcome! I wish I could find the place that I was looking for. I remember seeing it a couple weeks ago, and I considered buying one for my daughters, and I remember seeing several that looked like they would grow with a child.
