Or maybe I should make this a thread about Joss Whedon shows in general. Any Buffy or Angel fans lurking about?

The Serenity movie should be opening in a few short months unless it gets pushed back again.

Yes! I never saw Firefly on TV, but I have been a BTVS/Angel fan for years. I bought the DVD set of Firefly a few months ago and watched the whole thing straight through. My DH was having a fit for me to get away from the TV.
Firefly is such a bizarre concept but I really got into it. Am looking forward to the movie.

I was so sad when Angel was canceled. Buffy, I felt like had finished its run and was ready to end. But I definitely think Angel needed one more season to play things out. The last few Black Thorn episodes leading to the finale seemed a little sudden and forced.

I guess I am making this a general Whedon thread....but it just makes sense to talk about the shows together. One of my favorite things is noticing guest stars, jokes, etc. that appear in all three.

Anyway, I have all of BTVS and Angel on DVD. Every 6 months or so I'll watch them again, and everytime I get to the end of Buffy season two I cry for hours. I am such a dork....

I changed the title, wasn't sure if I should call it Joss Whedon shows or what. Any ideas?

I watched some of Firefly when it came out but never saw the last few episodes. We saw the trailer for Serenity the other day when we were at the movies and my DH went out and bought the dvds(he had never heard of it) So now I have him hooked(lol) I really wish they had let them finish the season.

I talked my DH into trying Buffy and now we have the complete set. We are going to start getting the Angel sets just don't know when. I have seen maybe 30 episodes of Angel but they have been spread out.

I have been lurking on imdb.com and someone posted a which one is your favorite thread and I don't think I could choose. They are all so different, hard to compare.

I agree about the last season of Angel, the least they could have done was make it a two hour finale. It was a bit disappointing.

Found this when I was lurking about on the firefly page.

Joss Whedon originally cast Rebecca Gayheart as Inara.

After Fox canceled the series, Joss Whedon cast Adam Baldwin, and Gina Torres on "Angel" (1999/I) and Nathan Fillion on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997). All three played villains.

Chinese phrases are often inserted into the English dialogue (sometimes to get away with saying things that the censors wouldn't allow them to say), and the ship has some signs in Chinese.

The two-hour episode "Serenity" was originally intended as the pilot for the show. The network (FOX) however, decided not to air it, citing that they wanted an episode with a more action-packed feel to it. With exactly one weekend to write a new pilot, executive producers Joss Whedon and Tim Minear wrote "The Train Job", which did appear as the first episode of the show. A slightly retooled version of "Serenity" was later showed as an 'origins' episode after Firefly had been canceled.

On the DVD Commentary on "War Stories", Alan Tudyk pointed out that despite the way Zoe and Wash were constantly portrayed, with Zoe being taller than her husband, Wash, Alan is in fact taller than Gina Torres. He is 6', she is 5'10''.

In the episode "Trash" when Saffron looks out the window of her husband's estate , Jubal Early's ship can be seen flying past (he had been following Serentiy since Ariel.)

Joss Whedon had cast Summer Glau before Firefly - she originally appeared as a Prima Ballerina on the "Angel" (1999/I) episode "Waiting in the Wings". Whedon remembered her from this and contacted her about the part of River.

In the original conception of the show, Joss Whedon was only going to have five main characters on the ship. Throughout the development process, the character list got upped to nine.

The part of recurring character Badger, who appeared in several episodes of Firefly including "Serenity" and "Shindig", was originally intended to be played by creator and executive producer Joss Whedon himself (according to Joss's DVD commentary for the episode "Serenity.") In the end, actor 'Mark Sheppard' was cast in the part instead.

In one episode, Inara asks whether a carved wooden statuette in a trading post is supposed to be a duck, and Kaylee replies that it's a swan. There is a Chinese proverb that says, "A badly painted tiger looks like a dog; a badly carved swan looks like a duck." (The meaning of the proverb is that it's better not to do certain things than to do them badly.)

The Alliance's full title is the "Anglo-Sino Alliance". Joss Whedon intended the Alliance to be the merger of the USA and China, the last of the world's superpowers. (This is why many characters on the show sometimes speak Chinese.) The Alliance flag, seen in the original pilot episode, is a blending of the US and Chinese flags.

The entire interior of Serenity (and some of its exterior) was built full-scale and almost completely contiguous, split across two soundstages - one stage for the upper deck and one for the lower deck, shuttle docks and hold. No "stock" corridors or redressed sets were ever used for Serenity's interiors.

The cast preferred to use the ship's lounge instead of a green room or other accommodations when waiting between shots.

"Firefly" was the first production to make extensive - almost exclusive - use of CGI sequences designed to look like footage filmed with handheld cameras, with effects such as shake, pans, zooms, manual focusing and so on.

One of the few American science fiction series to depict one of the realities of space travel - namely that there is no sound (explosions, rocket noises) in the vacuum of space. Some critics noted that viewers have become so used to associating sound with space travel that the lack of sound effects rendered the scenes dull.

Fans of "Firefly" and "Enterprise" (2001) once helped each other out: Firefly fans helped petition UPN to renew Enterprise for a 4th season, and Enterprise fans did the same for Serenity (2005), the Firefly motion picture. Both petitions were a success.

The character 'Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds' was ranked #18 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends" (1 August 2004 issue).

At the very beginning of the actual pilot episode ("Serenity"), the Alliance ship that comes upon the Serenity is named the "Dortmunder". In several of Donald Westlake's comic crime novels, the leader and planner of the group is named Dortmunder. The captain of the Serenity is referred to as a "genius planner," as is Dortmunder. And, as in Westlake's novels, the best-laid plans nearly always go astray.

In the episode "Shindig", as the crew begin to wander through the streets of Persephone, a ship with an oval front section followed by two square sections lands in the background. This ship is the Starlight Intruder from the Star Wars graphic novel series "Dark Empire".

The episode "Bushwhacked", a passenger log on a computer screen is seen briefly. The entry on the screen reads as: "Passenger 4352 - Schultz, Sharon I received a communication regarding the shipment and have been apprised of the situation awaiting us upon arrival at the docking bay as well. I have been assured that every precaution has been taken to insure the safe arrival and expedient dispersion of said materials. All is under control. Will contact representative upon arrival. Passenger 4399 - Robinson, Johann Today, my darling, for the first time I regret embarking on this journey"

The garbled line Mal speaks to Simon in the episode "Safe" as they are about to burned at the stake is "Your talent for alienating folks is near miraculous," to which he responds "Yes, I'm very proud."

In keeping with the idea of fusion between the American and Chinese cultures, during the funeral in the episode "Heart of Gold", the predominate color is not black, but white; the Chinese color of death/mourning.

In the pilot episode "Serenity" the gun that Mal is seen manning in the opening flashback, sports the very distinctive Weyland Yutani logo at the top of it's display. Weyland Yutani is "the company" from the Alien movies, and is also, like the Alliance, of American and Oriental co-operation.

I didn't get into them until Angel's last season, but we now own all the Buffy, Angel, and Firefly DVDs. DH and I are both excited about Serenity and can't wait until it comes out. We wanted to go to one of the sneak previews, but it was sold out by the time we were able to get onto the site. We'll probably try to go and see it on opening night. :)

I didn't know about the sneak preview until after the deadline had passed. :o I hope it does well at the box office. I read that Joss Whedon has a three picture deal with Universal for the Firefly franchise.

Series star Sarah Michelle Gellar initially auditioned for the role of Cordelia Chase, and Charisma Carpenter, who plays Cordelia, auditioned for the role of Buffy.

Nathan Fillion (Caleb) originally auditioned for the role of Angel when the show was first being cast in late 1996.

Julie Benz tried out for the part of Buffy and ended up in the part of Darla.

Elizabeth Anne Allen, who had a semi-recurring role as the witch Amy Madison, originally auditioned for the role of Buffy.

Other actresses considered for the lead role as Buffy also included Katie Holmes and Selma Blair.

Bianca Lawson, who played Kendra the Vampire Slayer in season 2, originally auditioned for the role of Cordelia.

The characters of Spike, Oz, Faith, Wesley and Drusilla were all supposed to be killed off, but have ended up living long past their initial storylines. Also, the characters of Jenny and Joyce were supposed to be killed off sooner than they were.

Danny Strong (Jonathan) originally auditioned for the role of Xander.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan are the only cast members who have appeared in every episode of the series.

Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), Nicholas Brendon (Xander), Alyson Hannigan (Willow), Anthony Head (Giles), and Kristine Sutherland (Joyce) are the only actors to have appeared in all seven seasons.

While speaking at the Wizard World Chicago Convention in August, 2004, Joss Whedon revealed that he had planned to bring the character of Tara back from the dead at the end of Season 7. The episode would have centered around Buffy being granted one "life-altering" wish. Buffy would have struggled the whole episode trying to decide what she wanted to do with the wish (including, possibly, restoring Angel's humanity). The episode would have ended with Buffy telling Willow that she'd just gotten a great new pair of shoes, and when Willow asked her if she used up her wish on new shoes, Buffy would have said, "No, silly!" and stepped aside to reveal Tara. This plan was abandoned when Amber Benson, who played Tara, was unavailable for filming.

The character Jenny Calendar was originally to have been called Nicki. This was changed to Jenny to avoid confusion on the set, Nicholas Brendon being generally called Nicky by his co-stars. (However, in season 7, the character Nikki Wood was added and appears in several episodes.)

In the episode "Once More With Feeling", Two of the show's writers, David Fury and Marti Noxon, have small singing parts. David Fury can be seen singing "They Got the Mustard Out" outside the magic shop when Buffy checks to see if other people are singing. Marti Noxon sings about a parking ticket ("I think that hydrant wasn't there") while Giles, Xander, and Anya are walking on the street after Xander and Anya's duet.

"Mutant Enemy", Joss Whedon's production company, was the name he gave to his first typewriter when he was 15. The logo was created in 20 minutes when he was told he had to have one.

Joss Whedon gave the character Riley the last name "Finn" after hearing executive producer Marti Noxon talking about taking her dog, Finn, to the vet.

Originally, Joss Whedon didn't want either of Buffy's parents to appear as characters on the show. Accepting that that could get complicated, he settled on just having her mother, Joyce, appear. Joyce ended up staying on the show for five seasons.

Amber Benson was added to the opening credits of the show for one episode, "Seeing Red," in which she was killed and never seen again. Series creator Joss Whedon has said that he's always wanted to do this, and was planning on doing it in the series premiere with the character Jesse, to show that the show was full of surprises, but at the time he didn't have the money to make another set of credits.

The seventh season episode, "Storyteller", which focused on the character Andrew, was an experiment to see how the audience would respond to a show centered around Andrew, since the series was ending and they were trying to find a character upon whom they could build another spin-off show.

The series finale had two different major-character death scenes written, one in which Anya was killed, and the other in which Andrew was.

In "The Body" (episode #5.16), in the scene where Xander (Nicholas Brendon) punched his hand through the wall, only a shot of Willow's left eye is shown. This is because actress Alyson Hannigan had experienced an allergic reaction to the dust from the plaster on the wall - a reaction that resulted in her right eye swelling badly. Because of this, she had to go to the hospital the next day to get her eye treated.

Spike, who was introduced in "School Hard" (episode #2.03), was originally intended to last for a few episodes into the Second Season. However, his character was immediately embraced and loved by Buffy fans, which resulted in Joss Whedon's decision to keep him in the series.

When the writers first came up with the character of Robin Wood, they weren't definite on whether it would be a man or a woman, so they picked a name that could apply to either gender.

The series is based not on the feature film Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), but Joss Whedon's original screenplay, which had been heavily rewritten to be more comedic. The Buffy comic book series adapted the screenplay, bringing the events of the movie in line with the TV show's continuity.

Joss Whedon says in his season six commentary that the two vampires, the demon, the street cleaners and Sweet's henchmen are all played by the same people.

In "Once More With Feeling," Willow sings "some kid is dreaming and we're all stuck inside his wacky Broadway nightmare." This is a reference to a Season One episode, "Nightmares", in which Sunnydale residents started to live their nightmares in the real world because a kid in a coma dreamed they did.

The guys who are sweeping streets and dancing are doing a similar dance to the chimney sweeps' dance in Mary Poppins (1964).

Xander and Anya fall down on the sofa laughing at the end of their song. This is an homage to the song "Good Morning" from Singin' in the Rain (1952) where Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor do the same thing.

During the dream sequence at the beginning of season one, episode four entitled, "Teachers Pet", we see Xander playing a guitar, the significance being that this happens to be a "Warlock" model guitar made by B.C. Rich guitars.

In the seventh season, the song that "The First" uses to trigger Spike to become evil again is well known to millions of Canadians - it was used as the theme song of the long running children's TV show, "The Friendly Giant" (1958).

In a number of scenes involving the club The Bronze, copies of books from The Destroyer series by Murphy, Warren and Sapir, Richard can be seen on book racks in the background.

In the Sunnydale cemetery, there is a frequently seen mausoleum with the family name Alpert. Alpert is the last name of one of the show's producers, Marc D. Alpert.

The deaths of Joyce Summers (episode 5.16, "The Body") and Cassie Newton (episode 7.4, "Help") are the only ones in the show's huge body-count that were due to natural causes.

I trimmed it down to make it easier to read. Didn't realize Buffy had that much trivia. :p

Buffy's birthday was celebrated in the episode first aired on or near 19 January each year. In the first-year episode "I Robot, You Jane," Malcolm brings up Buffy's school records on his computer. In the first view, we see that Buffy was born on 24 October 1980, and that she is a sophomore. The second time we see Buffy's records, her birthday is 6 May 1979, and she is a senior. (She is also shown with two different GPAs, one of them excellent.) Joss Whedon finally decreed Buffy's birthday to be 19 January 1981. 19 January 1997 was the day the show premiered.

Seth Green played Oz, the werewolf boyfriend of Alyson Hannigan. He also played her boyfriend in My Stepmother Is an Alien (1988).

Seth Green is the only cast member to have acted in both the TV series and the 1992 movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). (Green was cut from the feature film, but still appeared on the videotape box.)

In the musical episode "Once More with Feeling", Buffy comments, "So... Dawn's in trouble... must be Tuesday." This, of course, refers to the timeslot in which UPN broadcasts the show.

In the season premiere for Season Six entitled "Bargaining - Part 1", when Giles is at the airport ready to catch his plane for England, Tara gives him (as a goodbye gift) a little plastic finger monster which she puts on her finger and says "Grrr... argh". This is the same monster and sound that is made at the end of each episode, just prior to the credits, by the production company mascot "Mutant Enemy".

The Gorches in episode 2-12 "Bad Eggs" have the same first names, Lyle and Tector, as the Gorches from Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch (1969). Giles refers to them slaughtering a Mexican village in 1886, similar to the event that ends the movie, but the movie is set in 1913.

Joss Whedon is known to plan his season storylines years in advance. Clues to Dawn's arrival can be found as early as the third season, but she doesn't actually show up until the fifth.

Joss Whedon supplies the voice of the Mutant Enemy mascot which says "Grrr ... Arrgh" heard at the end of almost every episode.

Series Creator Joss Whedon has said that the idea for Buffy came from all the horror movies he had seen featuring a helpless young blonde who would almost always be the first to die. He felt she needed a better image.

Season seven's "Conversations With Dead People" is the only episode in which Nicholas Brendon does not appear.

The season three finale (Graduation Day Part II) was delayed for three months after a rash of school violence. The episode (which included a scene in which the graduating class defended themselves with medieval weapons) was pulled reportedly because producers feared that if an incident occurred during a graduation ceremony, a clip would run in "violence in media" clips. The death of recurring character Larry in this episode, hotly denied by fans, was not confirmed until season six.

The pilot episode, "Welcome to the Hellmouth/The Harvest," ends with Buffy, Willow, and Xander joking about the possible ways Buffy could get kicked out of school, and Giles sighing, "The Earth is doomed." The last episode, "The Chosen," contains a scene near the end where the three kids plan a trip to the mall and Giles sighs, "The Earth is definitely doomed."

The names of buildings and places at fictional U.C. Sunnydale are actual locations and buildings at real-life U.C. Santa Cruz.

In the series finale, Giles says that there is a Hellmouth "in Cleveland". This is a reference to another throwaway line, in the/spot Season 3 episode "The Wish": in an alternate reality where Buffy never came to Sunnydale, Giles phones her watcher, and then says, "Yes, I know there is a lot of demonic activity in Cleveland.... There happens to be a Hellmouth in Sunnydale...."

The entire first season was filmed before the first episode went to air, giving them the opportunity to go back and re-shoot various scenes. The scene in the library where Buffy states "it's my first day..." was actually filmed on the last day of shooting after they decided her original performance was too forceful and aggressive. Another scene added to the pilot (to fill in time as it was shorter than expected) was the infamous "you have something in your eye" scene where The Master blinds a vampire who had failed him.

When we fleetingly see the pages of books, magazines or newspapers on screen, the actual text is often deliberate gibberish. In "Out of Mind, Out of Sight" (episode 1.11), the final scene is of Marcy reading a textbook chapter titled "Assassination and Infiltration" with a subtitle referring to targeting the leader of a cult as an example. However, the actual text begins with the date August 2, 19XX and this is followed by the lyrics of the Beatles song, "Happiness is a Warm Gun" only they are written as prose.

In the first season episode entitled "Out Of Mind, Out Of Sight" the text in Marcie's text book are the lyrics to The Beatles song "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" with the line "Happiness is a warm gun" changed to "Joy is a hot revolver".

The prologue ("In every generation there is a chosen one....") is not used consistently. Two of the first twelve episodes don't use it. During the second season, use of the prologue becomes even more spotty. Anthony Head intones it only during the second season.

There was a pilot directed by Joss Whedon and financed out of his own pocket to sell the show to the networks. The plot is fairly similar to "Welcome to the Hellmouth", though Angel, Jesse and the Master don't appear. Also, it's only half an hour long. The main differences from the show as aired are the sets and casting. While most of the principals are in place, Riff Regan plays Willow and Stephen Tobolowsky plays Principal Flutie. They were replaced by Alyson Hannigan and Ken Lerner, respectively in the actual show. The library that appears is not the set from the show, rather it is the actual library from Torrance High School where much of the Sunnydale High material was filmed.

In "Conversations With Dead People", Amber Benson was supposed to return as The First Evil impersonating Tara, but she didn't want to come back just as a villain, so Cassie Newton (Azura Skye) from a recent episode was put in her place.

The episode "Earshot" in season 3 was about a student planning to kill himself on the school campus. It was scheduled to air a week after the Columbine shooting and was delayed until the next season. Due to the weapon he would have used, an assault rifle, and being in a clock tower, many people are under the misimpression that he was planning mass murder. This was also contributed to by the fact that Buffy WAS telepathically hearing thoughts of somebody planning to kill all the students, but it wasn't Jonathon.

Many of Andrew Wells's (Thomas Lenk) lines include references to the online fan community (the male slayer discussion, his inability to understand Dawn and Buffy's link).

Originally, the third member of the sixth season's nerdly Trio was to be Tucker, who appeared in the third season as a student who wanted to kill everyone at the prom. Plans fell through with that, so the writers replaced him with Andrew, Tucker's younger brother.

Britney Spears was originally supposed to play April the Robot in the fifth season episode, "I Was Made to Love You", but scheduling conflicts caused her to back out. Rumors of Spears' return to the show ran rampant for the rest of the series' run.

In episode 2.8, "The Dark Age," there is a photo of a young Rupert Giles holding a bass guitar. The production crew faked the photo by superimposing his head onto a photo of Sid Vicious.

Ranked #3 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Top Cult Shows Ever!" (30 May 2004 issue).

In "Grave", there is a hardcover copy of a William Shatner novel in the pile of books on the floor of the Magic Box after Giles shoots Willow through the wall (DVD, chapter 7, 12:49).

In the episode "Hell's Bells" in Season 6 there is a scene where Buffy is playing Charades with the crowd at Xander and Anya's wedding. She puts her fingers up to her head like horns and you can hear someone in the background guess "Deathwok Clan!". This is a reference to Lorne from "Angel" (1999/I), who is a demon with horns and a member of the Dethwok clan.

In April 2002, TV Guide named Buffy, the Vampire Slayer as one of "The 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time".

In the episode Superstar Brad Kane provided the singing voice for Jonathon (played by Danny Strong). Kane had earlier appeared in the episode The Prom as Tucker (the guy who trains the demons to attack the students at the prom) whose brother Andrew went on to become one of the Trio with Jonathon.

At the end of "Lessons", the First appears to Spike in reverse order of the Big Bads from each season. Warren (Season 6), Glory (Season 5), Adam (Season 4), Mayor Wilkins (Season 3), Drusilla (Season 2), The Master (Season 1) and finally Buffy.

The episode "Once More, With Feeling" was voted #1 on TV Guide's viewer's poll for the 50 Top Musical Moments on Television from 1990-2002 in 2002.

Alyson Hannigan hated her singing voice and asked not to have a song, or any major singing lines of her own in the musical episode (Once More, With Feeling). In "Nightmares", we see that Willow herself is terrified of singing in public.

In the 2-hour premier of Season 6, "Bargaining" Parts 1 and 2, we see Willow wearing a shirt with a number on it. We then see Xander come in wearing what looks like a football jersey with a number on it. Later when they gang is saying goodbye to Giles, Dawn is wearing a shirt with 07 on it. The crew got many letters asking what the numbers were supposed to mean, but there was no connection. Executive Producer Marti Noxon said that this was completely unintentional and was just a wardrobe coincidence.

The sequence with the Mutant Enemy mascot, the little monster that goes "Grr Argh" at the end of all episodes, was changed for a total of six episodes:
in Becoming Part Two (2x22) it said, 'Oh, I need a hug."
in Amends (3x10) it wore a Santa hat and bells were jingling
in Graduation Day Part Two (3x22) it wore a graduation cap
in Once More With Feeling (6x07) it sang its "Grr Argh"
in Storyteller (7x16) it sang, "We are as gods"
in Chosen (7x22) it looked out at the viewers instead of looking straight-forward

The Sunnydale High school newspaper has an obituary section. (season three, "Earshot").

On Bravo's "100 Greatest TV Characters", Buffy came in at number 13.

Before he was turned into a vampire, Spike's name was William. Angel's real name was Liam, which is the Irish pet name for William.

After the series ended, Eliza Dushku was offered her own spin-off series as the character Faith. But then she turned it down to do "Tru Calling" (2003).

In episode #7.8, "Sleeper", Aimee Mann guest stars as herself. When exiting the stage at the Bronze, during which her performance was interrupted by a vampire falling from the balcony, Aimee can be overheard saying, "Man, I hate playing vampire towns."

At the very beginning of "First Date" (7.14), when Giles and the Scoobies are walking in the graveyard, there's a gravestone clearly marked "Snyder". Principal Snyder used to be principal of Sunnydale High School until the Season 3 finale "Graduation Day Part 2," when he was eaten by a huge snake.

Kali Rocha, who showed up in the sixth season as vengeance demon Halfreck, first appeared in a flashback episode in the fifth season as Cecily, the woman who spurned William, causing him to become the vampire known as Spike. Having already cast Rocha as Halfreck, the writers knew the loyal fans would immediately recognize her, so as an inside joke between them, when Halfreck first saw Spike, she said, "William?"

The character of Dawn was originally intended to have the power to speak to the dead. She was also supposed to be able to move objects with her mind. These powers were later dropped.

In the final season during the Dungeons and Dragons game between Andrew, Giles, and one of the potentials the creature "Trogdor the Burninator" is a reference to a character in an online comic/mini-game which can be found at www.homestarrunner.com

Anya was only meant to appear in the episode "The Wish" but was brought back for "Doppelgängland" where she was made more humorous. When the producers realized how funny Emma Caulfield was they simply kept bringing her back, until she was made a regular cast member (including appearing in the opening credits) at the start of season five.

In "Lies My Parents Told Me" Spike makes mention of his mother's personal physician - a Dr. Gull. This is Dr. William Gull, Physician-in-extraordinary to the royal family, and who some believe was Jack The Ripper. (see From Hell (2001))

In the third season finale, Faith appears to Buffy in a dream, and tells her she's "counting down from 7-3-0". Joss Whedon planted that as a clue as to what would happen two years later in the fifth season finale, in which Buffy was killed. 730 days equals two years.

In the episode "Epiphany", Lindsey McDonald is shown driving an old pick-up truck with an Oklahoma license plate. In real life actor Christian Kane who plays Lindsey drove to Hollywood, CA in an old pick-up truck from his home in Oklahoma. When the character of Lindsey left the show, he drove away in this same truck.

In the episode "Fredless", when talking about the Aliens series, a character says, "He's always had a thing for those 'Aliens' movies. Except for that last one they made - I think he dozed off." Series creator Joss Whedon wrote the script for Alien: Resurrection (1997), although it was heavily rewritten.

Christian Kane (Lindsey) originally auditioned for the role of Riley Finn on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997). Show creator Joss Whedon liked Kane so much that he asked him to play the character of Lindsey instead.

The character "Gunn" was named after with the brothers James Gunn and Sean Gunn with whom Joss Whedon had worked previously.

It was originally intended for Angel's sidekick to be Whistler (Max Perlich) who appeared in two episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997). But when the actor couldn't commit to a series, the character of Doyle was created.

The girl with the electric powers, first appearing in episode 4.2 "Ground State", is named Gwen Raiden (Alexa Davalos). Raiden is a character in Mortal Kombat (1995) with the powers of electricity.

Sarah Michelle Gellar was offered the chance to reprise her role as "Buffy Summers" for two episodes of season five, which she couldn't do because she was filming _Grudge, The (2004/I)_ at the time. Later on, Gellar informed creator Joss Whedon that she was open for the series finale, but he was against it and turned her down because he didn't want the last episode of the series to be about Buffy when the series, "Angel", had always tried to create its own identity apart from "The Buffy Spin-off".

Each episode has quick flashes of images between most scenes. In the episode "Epiphany", for instance, between the scene with Angel and Darla and the scene where Angel goes to save Kate, there is a quick flash of a crew member holding a slate marker.

In the Season 4 episode "Spin the Bottle," the gang's memory reverts back to before any of them met. Cordelia, seeing Angel for the first time, says "Hello, salty goodness." She said the same line the first time she saw him on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997)

Andy Hallett holds the record for the actor who took the longest to become a regular. He guest starred in over 40 episodes during the second, third, and fourth seasons before finally being added to the main opening credits of the 14th episode in the fourth season.

The address for Angel Investigations at the old hotel is: 1481 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90026. Phone (213) 555-0162. Fax (213) 555-0163.

The songs that are sung to Lorne by Lindsey in "Dead End" and by one of his clients in "Sleep Tight" were both written by co-creator and executive producer David Greenwalt, as was the title theme to Cordy's sitcom in the fantasy sequences in the episode "Birthday". That song was sung by both Greenwalt and consulting producer Marti Noxon, who also appears in the sequence.

How big a nerd am I if I read this and immediately thought, "No, Tara's was natural too - a human death, by human means"? :o (DH and I just recently rewatched season 6, if that makes it better at all.)

I didn't even catch that. I was just blindly copying and pasting. :o

I was so shocked when Tara was killed!

Ok I have my nerd hat on. :p I wonder if they only consider Joyce's and Cassie's death as the only natural ones because there were no outside factors involved while Tara's death wasn't 100% natural. :o

Taking off nerd hat.

Oh yeah, I knew what they meant. It's just that on the show they made such a deal about it being a "natural" death, so I found it odd that the trivia thing didn't include it. (Besides, if Tara's was natural, then so was the Deputy Mayor's that Faith killed, and so was Miss Calendar's since Angel just snapped her neck and didn't feed off her.)

I need a life. :p

evagatesgreen2

I completely forgot about the Deputy Mayor. :o And Miss Calendar for that matter. Something I have never been clear on was in season three the episode where the box of gavrok spiders is shown, is the delivery person human or is he a demon? Would that make it two humans Faith killed or has she killed more than that?

Hey All-

Thought I should join considering I'm slightly obsessed with Buffy and Angel. I own the complete Buffy series on DVD and Season 1 & 2 of Angel. I never got into Firefly until last week when they started airing the show on the Sci-Fi channel. I really enjoyed the pilot episode. Honestly, if I hadn't known it was Joss written and directed, I probably would have picked up on it since is style and humor is very distinctive.

I watched I Only Have Eyes for You the other day on TV- that may be on of my all time favorite Buffy episodes.

And since I am always so bad with names of the episodes is I Only Have Eyes For You the one with the reenactment of what happened the night of the Sadie Hawkins dance?

Yup- that is the one! Where Angelus and Buffy kiss- freaking heartbreaking. *sigh*

Now, I'm really showing my geeky side- but does anyone have any good fanfiction to recommend? I'm a sucker for a good story. I'm not married to any particular relationship (Buffy/Spike, Buffy/Angel, Willow/Oz, Willow/Tara, etc)- I just love reading a good story. If anyone else reads fanfics, I'd be happy to recommend some of the good stories/sites I've come across.

Also- here is a good website for all things Joss related. (http://www.buffy.nu)

I'm not much on quizes either. I don't give a hoot which Buffy or Angel character I'd be (Willow and Fred, respectively ;)).

However- I love fanfiction. I'm a huge reader by nature- I have more books then I could count, so fanfic was a natural off-shoot of that. I work out of my home and sit on many long conference calls- fanfic is a great way to pass they time! There are some truly talented authors out there that write amazing stories. :)

Can I ask a question about something I keep seeing all over the place? Why do people hate the Riley character?

evagatesgreen2

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Freddie Prinze Jr. is plunging a spike into hopes by some fans that his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, might do a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie -- for either television or as a feature.

Prinze said "not with Sarah."

The actor said the original "Buffy" movie from 1992 "didn't work. That's why they made the TV series" because it worked "much, much better" as a series.

He said it worked so well as a series he can't imagine Gellar "would want to invest in something that's already failed once."

And, besides, Prinze says Buffy's creator, Joss Whedon, "is on the movie train right now and it hasn't stopped yet."

Whedon's been working on "Serenity" and "Wonder Woman."

Just thought I'd post in here for the first time. I LOVE WATCHING BUFFY. I'm of course a late bloomer, i only watched the first few seasons while the show was on and have officially caught up with every episode & every season thanks to my TIVO and FX. The second to last season is my favorite, I love the Buffy & Spike relationship. I'm from Philly and just don't really like David Boreanz (his dad was one of the most popular newscasters in our area for YEARS!). I really find the Spike character entertaining...........anyone else!?

In rewatching "Forever" (the episode after "The Body"), I caught something I hadn't before: in the scene where Giles is listening to the same song that he and Joyce had listened to in Band Candy. Took me a while.

evagatesgreen2 - I think people hate the Riley character because he was so drastically different (and normal) in comparison to Angel. Angel and Buffy had a very different relationship. Same thing with Kennedy in comparison to Tara.

evagatesgreen2
08-03-2005, 03:09 PM
You would think they would want the Buffy character to have a normal relationship with someone who could go outside in direct sunlight. ;) I didn't have a problem with the Riley character but I was surprised how many fans loathe him. And that is a good point about Kennedy/Tara. I've even run into a few who miss Willow/Oz.

Was it season 6 that they brought Riley back for that one episode? I thought they could have done more with it.

Joining over here. I love both shows. Okay actually I hated the season of Angel with the Jasmine story line. Hated it.

I'm from Philly and just don't really like David Boreanz (his dad was one of the most popular newscasters in our area for YEARS!).
I wonder what that means? Do people from Philly not like DB for some reason? Is his dad a bad newscaster? Does he look like him? I think that's funny.

evagatesgreen2 - I hated Riley too. Well, I just didn't like him as much as Angel. Joss had this whole true love or something built up with Angel, so it was hard for me to see her with someone else. Especially after that whole cross over episode during that time - when she forgot what had happened, but Angel remembered. Plus Riley just wasn't as strong willed as what I thought she needed.

And Freddie Prinze Jr. has a good point. The thing is - I'd like to see a TV movie even. Get the gang back together. But truly, I would love a real movie. Their fan base is so big now, that I think it would have a better chance.

That's too funny, I live near Philly and I can't stand him, either! I don't think his dad and he are identical, but if I think about it, I guess there are some annoying similarities...Like the wooden face and the lines delivered out of the corner of the mouth.

I didn't care for Angel or Reily. I was just sick of whiney, clingy men. I liked Spike a little better, but he was all moony at times as well. I just wish they could have given her a relationship that wasn't constantly threatened by her strength. They just had them follow her around with wistful puppy eyes and I think her character deserved a relationship of respect and equality versus worship.

I'm a big Joss Weden fan in general. I actually started watching Buffy towards the end of season 2, the episode where Angel kills Jenny. So, I really didn't like Angel much at first, but got over that. I've watched pretty much every episode of Buffy and Angel now (missing a couple of Angel season 1 eps) and have seen random episodes of Firefly. DH and I recently picked up the Firefly box set (finally!) and are hoping to watch the whole season in order before the Serenity movie comes out. And, besides all that, I have also started reading DH's Astonishing X-Men comics, as that newest X-Men series is currently being written by Joss.

Favorite episodes, anyone? My Buffy picks are "Fear, Itself" and "Hush"; Angel's are "Waiting in the Wings" and "Smile Time"; and out of the few Firefly episodes I've seen I like "Shindig" best so far, as Kaylee's too cute in her cake/gown at the ball.

evagatesgreen2 Speaking of that one episode when they brought Riley back... was it just me, or did it seem to hint they were going to do more with that? I swear they focused in on Riley's naked-of-wedding-ring finger for a second, and something like that fact that he wasn't actually married was going to come up. [shrugs]

I've become a fan, but in kind of a backwards way.

DH got into Firefly when it was on TV (Fox I think?) and bought the series DVD as soon as it came out, to catch episodes that he missed or that were unaired. We watched the whole thing together, sometimes watching 3-4 episodes back to back to back on a weekend because one would end and we just HAD to see the next. I'm not usually into sci-fi (or westerns, which I think Firefly has the feeling of a sci-fi western), but the writing for Firefly was so entertaining that the genre didn't matter to me.

After that, DH was like "if you liked the writing for Firefly, you would like Buffy" so we started TIVOing the episodes on FX. We were really lucky that they happened to be starting over at the beginning at the time we started looking to watch old episodes. The only problem was that sometimes there would be 3-4 episodes on per day and it filled up our TIVO pretty fast. I think it took them about 4 months to get through all the episodes on FX and it took us 6-8 months to watch them all. I was so sad to watch the last few episodes, knowing that there wouldn't be any more after that.

We've watched the first two seasons of Angel, getting them from Netflix on DVD, but we aren't quite as into that show. I do love the cross-over episodes though.

We are anxiously awaiting the release of Serenity. I'm almost done knitting a "Jayne" hat for DH to wear to the premire...and he told some friend about it and now two of his friends want Jayne hats too.

I was a majorly obsessed Buffy fan, but I started watching in the fifth season, so I saw things completely out of order. As a result I *loved* Spike and wanted to see him and Buffy together, but I never really liked Angel. My goodness. Even when Spike was evil, he was fun! I laughed out loud when he got rid of the Annointed One. But evil Angel was... disturbing. I don't know how she could ever have feelings for him again after that.

Riley was okay. I liked the tension that built up between him and Buffy before they got together (although at first he seemed more interested in Willow), but once they were together, they were kind of boring.

I LOVED Willow and Oz together, but then, I've always had a thing for Seth Green (sigh)! Tara took me a little while to warm up to, but of course by season 6, she was wonderful (especially in the musical). I liked Kennedy in the first episode in which she was flirting with Willow, but then she came on too strong, and I didn't see what Willow saw in her and couldn't understand why she was falling for it... After that, Kennedy just got whiny and never seemed to *get* Willow and her magic.

Thanks for posting the trivia stuff. I knew a lot of the later facts (probably from the DVDs) but there were also a lot that I either didn't know or hadn't noticed.

I started watching Angel after Buffy ended and I am just getting caught up on the earlier episodes. I found that series to be a lot more difficult to follow for some reason, although I own the first season on DVD now, and that season is perfectly straightforward. :)

I haven't watched much Firefly, although DH has, and I have caught glimpses, but I am sure we will watch the movie together and then I'll probably want to watch the series.

I have found a couple of websites that have written an 8th season for Buffy.

I have been reading this one, but they are slow to get new episodes out:
http://www.buffyworld.com/

And just now, while I was looking for it, I found this one, with (presumably) a completely different storyline:
http://www.someplacethatiselse.net/arcane/buffy/season8/arcane-season8.htm

DH says that he has seen the pilot episode of Buffy (which I haven't), so I am going to see if he can find it for me.

I got sucked in to Veronica after the first episode last fall. A lot of critics went a little nuts, billing it as the "Next Buffy." Hmm..not quite. It's a kick-ass, well written, amazing show staring a small blonde in high school. Nothing supernatural, no vamps, no slayers- V just uses her smarts and the help from some friends to solve the mystery of her best friends murder. It really is a wonderful show that does a great job of filling the hole on TV now that there are no Joss shows around. New season starts on Sept 28th, but UPN is airing repeats now and Season 1 is on DVD starting on Oct 11th.

Bonus- Alison Hannigan guest starred last season and Charisma Carpenter guest starrs this season! :)

I was lurking in a Buffy/Angel thread on another site and someone posted this exchange from the beginning of the Angel episode where Spike was after the Gem of Amara(not sure how it is spelled.) It always cracks me up and I just wanted to share it.

Spike:
As Rachel: How can I thank you, you mysterious black-clad hunk of a night thing?

As Angel: No need, little lady, your tears of gratitude are enough for me. You see, I was once a badass vampire, but love and a pesky curse defanged me. Now I'm just a big, fluffy puppy with bad teeth. [Rachel reaches for Angel's head] No, not the hair. Never the hair.

As Rachel: But there must be some way I can show my appreciation?

As Angel: No, helping those in need's my job, and working up a load of sexual tension and prancing away like a magnificent poof is truly thanks enough.

As Rachel: I understand. I have a nephew who is gay, so...

As Angel: Say no more. Evil's still afoot. And I'm almost out of that nancy-boy hair-gel I like so much. Quickly, to the Angel-mobile, away.

To Firefly fans it'll probably feel off-kilter, but to those new to the 'verse it'll probably be more easily digestable and appealing. All in all it's probably a good thing. Show the public what they think they want (basic supergirl shoot-em-up) and deliver something more complex when you've got 2 hours worth of their eyeballs.

Hi Ladies-

I also can't wait for the opening of Serenity. My local theater is all decked out for the movie- it is amazing to see!

Since I already mentioned Veronica Mars here, figured I'd continue with my plug. Joss is guest starring in an episode! :) Here is a quote from Robthomasproductions.com (Rob is the creator of VM):

Did you see what Joss Whedon comments about Veronica Mars?

I did. His extraordinarily generous comments really made my week. I sent him a thank you e-mail, and he sent me back a note that said that, in watching Veronica Mars, he’s come to understand, better, the fervor of Buffy fans.

The things he complimented about our show — the plotting, the dialogue, the relationships, the acting - are all elements I’ve admired in Buffy. Joss’ comments actually meant so much to me that I e-mailed my parents the link though I’m quite sure they don’t know who he is.

I’ve also put Season 2 of Buffy in my Netflix queue. I think I never let myself get fully-hooked by Buffy for the same reason that I feel a lot of people don’t watch Veronica. By the time the enthusiastic word-of-mouth reached me, I felt like I’d already missed the bus. I was afraid of being so far behind in the mythology that I couldn’t follow the ongoing storylines, though I would occasionally see episodes and admire the snappiness, the pacing, the angst.

And then - you heard it here first - Joss has agreed to guest star on the show. We’re firming up plans to have him play a testy, rental car manager in episode six.

Found the link for this on imdb.com.

Joss Whedon's Firefly includes a special rendition of "Hero of Canton", a "tribute to the tribute" sung by Adam Baldwin (Jayne).

1. Insert Disc 4.
2. From the main menu, select Special Features.
3. Select More.
4. Highlight, but do not select, "Joss Sings the Firefly Theme".
5. Press Left-Arrow, highlighting the ornament above.
6. Press SELECT.

Great easter egg, I'm going to have to check that out. I hear that the crowd got Adam Balwin to sing that at San Diego Comicon... I think that was the convention at least.

Just picked up Finding Serenity. Now, to find the time to read it...

I'm new here to CC and I just found this thread! I'm such a big Buffy/Angel fan. I'm so glad that this thread was started.
I think my favorite episode was "Once More with Feeling" I have the first 3 seasons of Buffy but only the first season of Angel:(

I watched Bones last week and I think that it has some potential.

Hi to you too, evagatesgreen2! I asked for the soundtrack for Christmas the year that it came out. My SIL burned a CD for me and I have worn it out!!
Bones is on tonight and I can't wait to see if it lives up to the promise of the pilot.

I'm going on Friday night and can't wait. I honestly didn't get into Firefly and thought it was sort of cheesy and hokey, but I'm all about supporting Joss. I know I sound like such a nerd, but I might let out a little "woo" when his name comes on the screen.

We just watched Heart of Gold last night, and boy was that a good episode! I'm not sure if we'll watch the final episode tonight, or Thursday night, but since we're so close to the end I do want to finish up before Friday. DH claims that he read that Joss is saying there will be a sequel to Serenity if it does well at the box office. I may just have to go twice!

I can't decide which movie theater to go to. :( Three of them are playing the movie at the same time but one of them is still a fledgling theater and most likely won't have as many customers and I can't decide if I want to go to the bigger theater and hope to see a madhouse(I can dream ;)) or use the smaller ones that won't be crowded.

bunnybeth
09-30-2005, 07:54 AM
I would prefer to see it in a more crowded theater myself. With a movie like this, any sort of crowd would be a plus IMO. It's such a... fan following sort of series. And, I think it would be great if there was anyone there dressed up as a character, or wearing something like a Jayne hat, or even a brown coat. Probably won't be anyone in my loser neck of the woods, but I can hope. I wish I had a Jayne hat...

From the previews, it seems to me that Jayne is going to have all the great lines in the movie. I guess we'll find out soon enough. :D

I don't usually post in this thread but I wanted to let any Spike fans know that James Marsters is playing a recurring character on Smallville for about 5 episodes or so. It should be good - they revealed him at the end of the season premiere last night and I yelled "OMG. It's SPIKE!" :D

I saw Serenity last night and it was great! I wasn't a Firefly fan until about 3 weeks ago when my coworker lent me the DVD... I still haven't watched all of the episodes, but the movie didn't ruin any of those remaining episodes for me.

I went with a bunch of my coworkers-- some Firefly fans and some people who had never even heard of Joss Weddon (the horror, I know)-- and every single person walked out of the theater impressed.

I won't spoil the movie for anyone, so I'll write the next question in white (SPOILER, don't read it if you don't want to know)

What did you guys think of the deaths? I was almost suspecting Book's --but NOT Wash. I actually teared up a little...

I just saw it and it was good (and fine that I hadn't seen all the episodes). There was one thing about the movie that I thought was a little contrived, and then I thought maybe I would feel differently if I saw the series. Afterwards, I talked to one of my friends, who did watch the whole series, and she said there was nothing in the series about that aspect of the movie, so I guess it really was hokey. Otherwise, I really liked the movie. :)

As for your spoiler question, Wrighty: I felt the same way.

Wrighty26 - I agree. I am still feeling depressed about Wash! We saw it on Friday night and it lived up to my expectations. I was worried that it would be too watered-down to appeal to people who hadn't seen Firefly.

The theater we went to had a good crowd. I knit Jayne hats for my husband and I, and when we walked into the theater, several people called out "Cool! Jayne hats!". So we were definitely in a crowd where they were appreciated and we didn't just look like a couple of dorks in strange hats.

At the end, we always stay during the credits. A lot of other people did too, moreso than most movies. I think we were all waiting for something cool to happen at the end. While the credits were rolling, I said to DH, "I wonder if they'll have the "Grrr....Arggg..." monster at the end. They didn't, but the people sitting in front of us must have heard what I said, because when there was nothing special after the credits, they stood up and did the "Grrr...Arggg...". And everyone who was left applauded them because everyone knew what it was about. :D

We always stay for credits, too. There was a group of guys that stayed as well, and they were all like "YEAH!" when the Firefly theme music started playing towards the end of the credits. And then they sang along, even though it was just the instrumental music playing. It was pretty funny. We hoped for a "Grr, argh" too.

I want to go see it again...maybe next weekend. :)

Excellent movie! DH and I are figuring out when we can go see it again. Joss love!

I was watching the news last night and it was reported Serenity opened at #2 with $10.1 Mil; above all other openers. I'm hoping there's even more people going to see it in the coming weeks with all the great word of mouth that's starting to go around.

And, spoilers for Wrighty in white: I didn't really expect Joss to kill off any of the main 9 characters because of his hopes for a sequal. But, I wasn't that shocked about Book. (Though what the heck was his secret!?!?!) And, I was really sad about Wash; he's the Xander of the cast and one my favorites.

Just wanted to share this. :)

Y'know, I thought it would be a cool idea and all to let you in on what I think are the top five episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, seeing as it's almost Halloween and all (and yes, I know, baddies find the day to be boorish and cliché). But can I really sum up seven seasons of episodes within a measly list of five? Well, I'll do my best, and I'm sure no matter how I order them or list them, someone's going to disagree. Big time. So, without further ado...

First, I need to have some honorable mentions here, because I just don't feel right at all not having them in the list. If I could, I'd have listed 'The Wish' (3.9) and 'Tabula Rasa' (6.8) among my favorites, but this is 'The Five', after all. I know many will tell me I should have added 'The Body' (5.16) to the list, but sorry, it's not one of my favorites.

5) The Zeppo (3.13) -- This episode is better known to me as "The Xander Episode". Finally the guy with no special powers gets his day in the sun, except nobody's around to witness it. Xander takes down a high school bully zombie gang, saving the school and the rest of the Scoobs in the process. Not only that, but the man loses his virginity to Faith. Faith! A nice touch was how much the writers downplayed the battle that Buffy and gang were calling the possible "end of the world," as we barely caught a glimpse of what was going on during brief scenes when Xander was in the high school. Cap it all off with the look he gives Cordelia. Perfect.

4) Fear, Itself (4.4) -- I just loved Oz. I hated that he later left the show, and I always dreamed up scenarios in later seasons when he'd return for good. He plays a great part in this episode, where a "fear demon" takes hold of a fraternity house during a Halloween bash, turning everyone's worst fears upon themselves. Oz's worst fear was, of course, turning into a werewolf outside of a full moon and then hurting Willow. And then there's Anya's idea of a scary costume: a rabbit. In a classic ending, the gang finally comes face-to-face with the fear demon, and we learn that the heading next to its picture in Giles' book translates to "actual size".

3) A New Man (4.12) -- This had some great interaction between Giles and Spike, something we hadn't really gotten to see in the past. I also love the Ethan Rayne character, who in this episode changes Giles into one of the very things he fights: a demon (I always thought that the BBC's Ripper series should start out with Giles meeting Ethan, so we could learn more about their sordid past, but I digress). Since Spike is the only one who can understand the Fyarl demon language, Giles relies on his help. I didn't really care for season four all that much, mainly due to the featured big-bad being a bit disappointing. Thankfully this (and one other) episode brightly outshines what was a rather lackluster season.

2) Once More, With Feeling (6.7) -- The famed musical episode had me a little nervous. Could these cats actually sing? And could Joss put together a story that made sense in a musical setting? Oh, why oh why did I doubt the Whedonmeister. It's evident that a lot of time and planning was put into making sure this episode worked and worked very well. Not only were the songs well done, but the lyrics made complete sense with the story and the characters. Some of the songs were sung very well, too. Everything's explained in a very Buffyverse-believable sort of way, and we even get a huge plot point for the series thrown in there for good measure: Buffy and Spike's first kiss. No list of Buffy favorites is complete without this episode. None, I say!

1) Hush (4.10) -- No brainer. If someone who had never seen Buffy (blasphemy!) asked me to show them just one episode of the show to get them hooked, this would be it. Joss and company pull off one hell of a stunt by making an almost completely speech-free episode, and damn does it work. Also, this is one scary-ass episode. Holy creepy on those 'Gentlemen' and the gimps that hurried after their floating bodies. And those plastered on grins. Parents, do not show this episode to your young kids; they will have nightmares for months following watching this. And once again, we get a huge piece of the Buffy story added in the mix, as Riley finally finds out that Buffy is a little bit "special".

Ok, quick post because I've only got a couple of minutes but dang! evagatesgreen2, when you said top five, I immediately thought of 4 of the same ones you posted! Zeppo; Fear, Itself; Once More, With Feeling; and Hush. I'm going to have to think of my #5 and come back later.

Now for my fifth in the top five.

Band Candy (3.06) This episode had lots of great lines and we got to see Giles and Joyce (among others) acting like teenagers. Not to mention what Giles and Joyce did... together... on the hood of a police car. Classic BtVS humor.

Oz: "Teenagers. It's a sobering mirror to look into, huh?"

Hmm...my top four BTVS episodes...

Surprise. I don't actually remember what happens in the bulk of the episode. But there is lots of Buffy/Angel romance culminating in the love making. Which makes it my favorite. (Not withstanding the outcome, of course)

I am also a big fan of the scene in season three (no idea which episode) where Buffy and Angel are doing some sort of martial arts/yoga type thing and David has no shirt on.

Becoming Part 2. I cried and cried. Just the idea of her having to do what she did. And I love Sarah McLachlan, and "Full of Grace" was just perfect there.

Once More With Feeling. Duh.

Hush. This is probably the scariest show ever. When the first guy in the dorm gets his heart cut out but can't scream it just totally freaked me out.

For the fifth I couldn't quite choose. Band Candy, and something Blue were both hilarious, the Zeppo was a real treat, and also I love Vamp Willow from The Wish and Doppelgangland. I'll have to think about this some more and try to remember episodes better.

Raising hand, admitting to obsessive fascination with BTVS, Angel, and, most recently, Firefly. :D

I still have the final episode of Angel stored in our DVR (and it's been what, 2 years since it ended?) and I rewatch it every once in a while. DH thinks I'm nuts.

Firefly I became interested in when I saw the trailers for Serenity and recognized Nathan Fillion. I just watched ALL 11 episodes on Saturday and was crushed when it ended where all the characters were really developing and meshing. Argh! I picking up the DVD box set and the Serenity DVD today just to get some closure!

Favorite Buffy episodes:

Of course, Hush, although I don't find it so scary anymore. Once More With Feeling, I Only Have Eyes for You, Halloween ("Who is that girl?"), Helpless, Living Conditions, The I in Team, Where the Wild Thing Are, Family, Checkpoint, Villians, End of Days.

I really disliked most of the episodes/seasons with Dawn and Glory. Both characters were just so annoying! Same thing for Conner on Angel, UGh! hates that whole story arc.

www.buffyguide.com is a great source for episode titles and descriptions.

:D Which Big Bad do you go with?;) The only one I haven't played is The Master. :p

Would be nice if they would make a new one with the later villains.

Bought this the other day.

The opening theme is a remix which is a bit of a letdown.

Yes! Joss Whedon goodness!! ;) I love Buffy, Angel and Firefly (Serenity). It is so very sad to me that Angel got canceled. I am still in denial :(

Did anyone see that they are selling all the Buffy DVDs in one HUGE set now and it has such cool packaging :( I want it but I already have all of the DVDs!

I was going to sell all of my seasons on ebay and then buy the boxed set, but after looking at ebay, I wouldn't get as much as I thought. :(

I was looking at the one on amazon, did you see "Karaoke music videos" as part of the extras? I want it just for that! :)

LOL! Same here. :o I wonder if it will have the entire list of songs from Once More With Feeling? I have the soundtrack and I've got my DH hooked on it so now we know all the words. How dorky is that? :o

DH and I are debating whether or not to get into Angel. I've avoided it completely because I want to scratch out Charisma Carpenter's eyes, she drives me insane. But as we're rewatching the newer seasons of Buffy, I'm starting to get curious about the overlap.

Top five Buffy episodes? That's hard. Definitely Once More With Feeling. That one gave me such a girl crush on Amber Benson. What pipes! Definitely Becoming Part 2. I agree, Alice, I bawl every time, and when she walks down the sidewalk to Full of Grace...eep! Also A New Man when Ethan turns Giles into a demon, and New Moon Rising when Willow chooses Tara over Oz.

The Body was astounding in thematic camera angles and soundtrack, but it's rough to get through. I do love bad Willow, but I hate the idiotic Trio. And I hated when Riley came back and she never actually told him she'd been dead!

I also can't stand Dawn. I missed season four completely because I had just started college and was totally overwhelmed. The first show I caught up with was when Dawn was introduced, and I didn't realize she was new to everyone else, too, until reruns. I thought she'd come in season four and I'd missed it.

greenbunny She did tell Riley she was dead, but she didn't go into details. They were in the car and he wanted to swap war stories and she told him she'd win.

I really like A New Man as well; particularly the part where Giles gets out of the car to scare the professor. :) and of course, this exchange:

Giles: Uh, how did you know it was me?
Buffy: Your eyes. You're the only person in the world that can look that annoyed with me.

I hated Dawn too (and Glory) and skip over most of that season if I'm watching reruns.

A New Man - hilarious episode. I love when Giles gets out of the car just to scare the Initiative lady (forgot her name) because he didn't like her.

DH and I are debating whether or not to get into Angel.
Do it! :D I know what you mean about Charisma Carpenter. But the show is worth suffering through her. In later seasons, she has less and less of a role. And frankly, it's another fix of our favorite characters. But for the love, do not judge the show by the Jasmine season. Bleh!

What I loved best was the cross over episodes. For example, when Buffy goes to see Angel and he turns human for 24 hours and then Buffy is forced to "forget" what happened. They fight and then Angel shows up on the next Buffy show because he was upset with how they ended things.

Prof. Walsh! The evil bitch monster of death. I crack up when she uses that name in her first episode. :D

Add me to the A New Man club. Spike is so rotten when he encourages Giles to cause the carnage he can't. :)

I can't remember the name of the episode but it is right after Spike has escaped from the Initiative and he trys to bite Willow but he can't and their exchange ends up sounding like he is suffering from ED.;)

Found it!

From Buffyworld.com

Spike : I don't understand. This sort of thing's never happened to me before. (He's sitting on Willow's bed.)

Willow : Maybe you were nervous.

Spike : I felt all right when I started. Let's try again. (He leaps on her and draws back immediatly. He tries again and the same thing happens.) Ow! Oh! Ow! Damn it! (He gets up and kicks the dresser. He starts to pace around the room.)

Willow : Maybe you're trying too hard. Doesn't this happen to every vampire?

Spike : Not to me, it doesn't!

Willow : It's me, isn't it?

Spike : What are you talking about?

Willow : Well, you came looking for Buffy, then settled. I--I... You didn't want to bite me. I just happened to be around.

Spike : Piffle!

Willow : I know I'm not the kind of girl vamps like to sink their teeth into. It's always like, "ooh, you're like a sister to me," or, "oh, you're such a good friend."

Spike : Don't be ridiculous. I'd bite you in a heartbeat.

Willow : Really?

Spike sits on her bed again.

Spike : Thought about it.

Willow : When?

Spike : Remember last year, you had on that... Fuzzy pink number with the lilac underneath?

Willow : I never would have guessed. You played the blood-lust kinda cool.

Spike : Mmm. I hate being obvious. All fang-y and "rrrr!" Takes the mystery out.

Willow : But if you could...

Spike : If I could, yeah.

Willow : You know, this doesn't make you any less terrifying.

Spike : Don't patronize me.

I do remember that, but don't you think he just had this "duh" look on his face? And I knew he knew about how she died when fighting the master. I wanted a bit more clarity, like "Hey, I was in the ground for three months" versus "Yeah, I had another CPR scare".

Maybe I ask too much. :o

ETA: In the same vein, I love when Willow first brings Amy back from being a rat.

Buffy: So, how've you been?

Amy: Rat. You?

Buffy: Dead.

Amy: Huh.

Maybe. I guess I always felt like somewhere in all of the reconnecting with the gang that Riley and the wife were filled in on the goings on. I was disappointed that she didn't tell him that she went after him the night he left (although I get why they didn't go that way.) Crazy how you want to give the characters advice. :p

greenbunny - just watched that episode last night!

I record 4 Buffy's and 4 Angel's on my Replay (like TiVo) each day. I don't always watch them, but I like having them there in case nothing is on to watch. :) DH doesn't understand how I can watch them over and over.

I just saw this question! I watched the movie in college. My roomate loved it and couldn't believe I had never seen it so she put it in the VCR right away. I have to admit, I turned my nose up and did not share her enthusiasm for it.

I actually didn't watch Buffy until about the 2nd or 3rd season (whichever one is right before they spin off the Angel show). Mainly for the same reason:
1. I couldn't believe they made a show from that movie
2. I thought it sounded so cheesy and turned my nose up at it before giving it a chance.

But, I came home from work and it was on at 5 and 6 on some station showing re-runs from the first seasons. Nothing was on and I started getting into it. From then on, I was hooked!

HERESY! Only kidding! :D I loved Angel and was always a big fan although I know a lot of people didn't like the story line. I had a crush on him for awhile, but now don't find him as attractive as I once did. I bought into the whole "true love" thing and loved them together.

However, I loved Spike too. The same episode with the Amy/Buffy "rat conversation" also is the one where Buffy and Spike don't notice the building falling down around them during their first time. I love the Spike character and liked the way Joss handled the relationship and storyline. (but knowing it was only temporary as she really loved Angel) ;).

The relationship I didn't like was Riley. But that was also during the cross over episode I reference above which made me love Buffy/Angel together even more.

What did everone think about the whole relationship between Buffa and Spike. I personally like Spike much more than Angel and in fact never really liked Angel too much.

I appreciated how well they played off the "true love at first sight" thing with Angel. But I found Spike to be so much more honest, and I respected the character more. Even when he was evil, he stayed true to what he was. It's like he said in season three when he, Buffy, and Angel were in the magic shop and he was trying to make a spell to get Dru back: "I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it."

Actually, I love that whole monologue:

Spike: "You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love 'til it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other 'til it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood. Blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it."

That scene cracks me up! Spike has some of the best lines. I love the way he acts in Tabula Rasa(sp) when he thinks he's Randy Giles. :D

Because I love this whole exchange I put it all in. :o

GILES: We'll all get our memory back, and it'll all be right as rain.
SPIKE: Oh, listen to Mary Poppins. He's got his crust all stiff and upper with that nancy-boy accent. (everyone looking at him) You Englishmen are always so... (pauses) Bloody hell! (ticks off on his fingers) Sodding, blimey, shagging, knickers, bollocks, oh God! I'm English!
GILES: (puts glasses on) Welcome to the nancy tribe.
SPIKE: You don't suppose you and I ... we're not related, are we?
ANYA: There is a ruggedly handsome resemblance.

Giles smiles at Anya with pleasure.

GILES: (to Spike) And you do inspire a, um ... (Spike walking out from behind the counter)
