Your moderators for this thread are tgr68 and LyndzeyAHL!
Who we are:
We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.
Want to join the fun?!?
We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

You don’t have to read the whole thread to join. Feel free to just jump in on the last page and post a reply with the following information. None of this info is a must but it helps to learn a little bit about each other.

Hi ladies!
Over the past few months I've gained some weight and I need to do something about it.....other than moan and complain. I've always battled with weight, but over the past 5 or 6 years I've remained pretty steadily between 118-125 (except when I was pregnant when I jumped to 174 pounds from 133 pounds!). Even after the baby, the weight seemed to fall right off. But, now, I've started nursing school and I am taking the pre-reqa which means less time moving and more time sitting still to study. I also tend to eat when I am stressed and there's a lot of stress involved with my classes. And, with the holidays here I don't want to gain anymore - my clothes are already tight enough!

in general I have been working out a lot more the last few weeks and walking too. I am really starting to see some definition in my arms. biceps are shaping up but I think I really need to do some work on my tris because I'm getting this bad ass bat wing on my left (no dominant arm) and its pretty old-lady arm scary!
my goal is to lose 100 lbs by next thanksgiving. I have a goal plan mapped out that by loosing 2 lbs per week I should be able to do it in 50 weeks! :p

What are you using/doing?
I've been wanting to buy a workout DVD, but am not sure what would be best. Does anyone have any suggestions? The only time I can work out is while Alexander naps during the day, so I could probably so about 60 minutes or so. And, I'd like something that motivates, because I'm just really feeling down about this recent weight gain.
Thanks!

I highly recommend The Firm series. I have about forty of their videos (along with a ton of others), and I like theirs (and see the most results from theirs) better than any others by FAR. My favorite instructor is Allie Del Rio, and I think that a good starter is Cardio Sculpt (Allie Del Rio is the instructor, it's actually one of their older tapes now). You could probably get a good deal on it on eBay. The only thing about their tapes is that you need their fanny lifter tool (or two stackable steps the right heights), but you could get that on eBay, too. I actually got my first Firm stuff from Target, and now I'm a Firm Believer. It's awesome!

I love the Walk Away the Pounds series mainly because it's super easy on the joints and it's easy to follow along but you really feel like you've worked out after it. It combines marching/walking with weights and you can do as high or as low impact as you want (if you want more you squat and if you want less you stay standing). It's the only one I've tried that I've stuck with. I have bad knees so some days I put more into it and some days I back off but regardless I get the same time of working out in.

Even though these starting numbers are sucky, I'm not letting it bother me. I feel really good about the plan that we're starting (You on a Diet) and I already feel a lot better. I'm also incorporating more weight training into my routine, and that's bound to mess with my weight, especially at first. Further, I think the thanksgiving damage could be lingering. I think I'll see bigger numbers at the end of next week!

Oops! I forgot to answer the exercise question. Honestly at this point I don't do anything beyond housecleaning. I found that trying to change both my eating habits and exercise habits at once was too difficult, so I'm working on my eating habits right now. I do have the Winsor Pilates DVDs and love those! The sculpting circle workout is great! It's a quick 20-minute workout and I always see results when I use it!

As far as workouts go, I have taken up running. I never thought I would say that!! It has been alot of fun. I joined a running store's training class for an 8 mile run and meet some great people in the class that I have been running with. In fact, next weekend we are running a marathon together as a relay. I get to do 5 miles and I remember a time when I would be shocked to say that I ran 5 miles!! Seems as though running is melting the pounds away for me so at this time it is a necessary evil.

In terms of workout DVDs, I love the Slim in 6 series. They are so good for firming/toning.
Right now I'm mostly doing running at the gym - I'll be doing that for awhile since it is pretty difficult to run outside in all the snow we get here. For me, running is the best and fastest way to loose pounds, and some days I still wish I was losing them quicker.

Thanks, ladies, for your responses to the question about videos. I'm going to try to get to Best Buy or something this week to take a look at what they have......that is if I am not stuck here studying all week. Thank goodness that my final is December 14th. The weight will probably fall off after that (hopefully!)
And, for my weigh in:
Week 1: -1.5/130.5
Week 2:
Week 3:
Week 4:
Week 5:
Total Weight Loss: -1.5
Even though that 1.5 pounds looks good on paper, I also had my period this week so that could have made me a bit heavier when I weighed myself. But, I'll take it!
Week 1: -1.2/117 lbs
Week 2:
Week 3:
Week 4:
Week 5:
Total Weight Loss: -1.2
Exercise:
Cardio at the gym (running/walking on treadmill, stationary bike, ellyptical) and some weights at they gym 2-3 times a week.
Ashtanga yoga at home 1-2 times a week.

lildan I also wanted to say that Collage Video (www.collagevideo.com) is a neat site for looking for exercise videos (not that you have to order from there, just that it's cool to look at their descriptions). What makes their descriptions so great is that each video has been tried by a person on their staff and they break it all down for you (how much is stretching, cardio, toning, etc.). I have found it to be very useful (and I think that their pries are pretty reasonable, too).

Okay, I am highly confused because, as you know, I weighed in yesterday and the scale read 146.8. Then, I weighed myself this morning (because I weigh myself every morning, and oh yeah, a couple of other times each day as well :o ), and I weighed 148.2. That had better be water weight, or I will be upSET!

This is me, too. I've been going to the gym a few times a week, which isn't helping, and I'm thinking it's b/c I'm not consistent enough (with eating healthy, either).

This is why I started focusing on one thing at a time. I couldn't handle changing both my eating habits and exercise habits together, so I decided to focus on one - my eating habits. I don't limit the things I can eat. I just try to watch my carb to protien to fat ratio. I've learned that I have to eat A LOT of carbs and very little fats in order to lose anything.
I plan on getting a consistent exercise plan down in January.

Hi ladies! Just wanted to tell everyone GREAT JOB!!! I was so excited to still see this challenge going... when i started the first one i had never expected it to last so long and have so many successes!
I'm excited to be starting the challenge again in Jan to lose all this baby weight. I'm shamed to say i gained everything i'd originally lost (30 lbs) plus an extra 10. ACK! So, i'll be here for the long haul through 2007. I'm glad i'll have so many others around for support and encouragement. I don't know if i'd been able to lose those original 30 lbs without everyone's help in these challenges.
Anyway, like i said, i'm ecstatic the challenge is still going strong and i will see you all in Jan!

Me too! I keep blaming my eating on the frigid temps here... I am really scared of Sunday morning, plus the fact that I think last week's weigh-in weight was a fluke since it was up to 148.2 the next day and the following day, too. *sigh* Why is it soooo hard to get off and so easy to put on?

I feel really good about this because I haven't been able to get to the gym since Sunday do to parent/teacher conferences (and exhaustion). I was planning on getting back there starting today, but now i'm sick, so who knows.
OK, can we just talk about how hard it is to find foods that don't contain partially hydrogenated oils!?!?!? I know trans fats are the talk of the town right now, but according to dr. mehmet oz, they are the worst thing for people to eat, and will sabotage any efforts at weight loss. I'm sad to say, they are in most if not all flour tortillas and peanut butter, so i'm going through withdrawl. (I don't eat those together, lol.) To boot, I'm avoiding pretty much ANYTHING unless I can see on the label that it doesn't possess PH oils and/or high fructose syrups.
In just two weeks I feel like my pants are looser, and I just FEEL better. Not sure what this week will bring since I'm expecting AF around next Friday, but I'm optimistic. I hope I can kick this cold before it starts and get my a$$ back to the gym.
Good luck this week, ladies. Congrats to SOL on your huge weight loss! I'm sure many more of you will soon follow suit. (And hopefully me, as well.)

I got a little tummy cootie so I haven't been eating this week, but the out put was there does this count?!? J/K so I'll probably loose a lot this week then gain next week.
Good question on how you gain faster than you loose. Its like a struggle for every single pound then you have one or two bad days and BOOOP they're back on. It's craptastic that's for sure!

I do think that my weight last week was a fluke, as I've already said, because I weigh everyday and I always seem to be around 148, but at the same time, the weight gain is entirely my fault because I slacked on exercising this week, drinking enough water, and I ate like crazy. It's not worth it. I have to get it together, starting right now.

I'm trying to simplify my diet this week. Attempting to cut out pretty much all sugar up until Christmas when I'm sure I won't be able to control myself and will have to splurge. Tonight I'm going to make a chicken soup from scratch and have that for lunches all week - may get boring, but I've been craving soup and if I make it myself I can cut out the sodium!
Many foods now have "no trans-fat" labels but I really wish that was a requirement for hydrogenated oils as well. Both are terrible for you - so I'm going to work on paying even more attention to food labels - and my Biggest goal for the next two weeks: EAT MORE VEGGIES!!! :p
Good Luck Everyone!!!

makes 6 pounds lost this challenge
When you guys start the new challenge, I want in. But more importantly, start the numbers back at one again please. This way each new year we can start over instead of having the numbers go crazy high - or do them by months instead of numbers.

I lied: LINK TO THE NEXT CHALLENGE (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1123349#post1123349) :o
Everyone check your starting weights because I went of the front page and I know I need to do updates still for some of you. I will do that tomorrow instead!
I just couldn't bring myself to face the scale these past two weeks -- they've been bad. So I'll weigh in tomorrow and be back for the next challenge (I'm pretty sure I gained at least 5 or 6 pounds these past two weeks  )

NEW CHALLENGE IS: HERE (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28319)
This challenge is OVA! We lost a mere 28.5 pounds this challenge, HOWEVER, the average gain from Thanksgiving to the New Year is 4lbs, so any loss at all is to be commended.
Great job ladies and *CHEERS* to the new year!
See you in the 2007 Challenges. -Lynz :o
