Hey ladies! I'm wondering if you could answer a question for me. I'm currently 11w1d pregnant, and I'm in Las Vegas this week with DH for his work conference. Am I basically tied to the room, or do you think it's safe to go out and have a little fun? I tend to avoid being around the smokers anyway, but I don't want anything to happen to my baby as a result.
Thanks!

I was in Vegas at 13 weeks. During the day the casinos weren't too bad with the smoke. You could hang out in a less crowded area of the casino. But at night, it was horrible! I couldn't stay in there for more than 30 minutes. I say go out and see some sights and have fun!!:)
Depends on your idea of 'fun'. ;)
I too would stay away from smokers, as significant vasoconstriction in young, healthy adults has been seen after exposure of nonsmokers to secondhand smoke - after as little as three minutes. Really, as far as your body's concerned, breathing secondhand smoke is no different from just lighting up yourself. Even eating in the non-smoking section of a restaurant which also has a smoking section is the equivalent of smoking 2 cigarettes per hour you're there!
A drink would be okay, but I personally wouldn't be comfortable with more than that. And, I'd avoid the brothels. ;) But you certainly don't need to feel you are tied to the room! There's got to be more to Vegas than casinos, and it sounds like those aren't too bad during the day, at least. Hope you have a good time. :)

I just wanted to go down and gamble a little bit. I was hoping that if I went during the day, there'd be no one there, so I'd have less exposure. I don't want a drink, and I think I'll pass on the brothels this time ;).

You will be fine! Most of the casinos (especially if they are on the strip) are very well ventilated.
I was around a lot of smoke about 2 weeks ago and I am fine :)

Hitting the casinos during the day is a good idea, it does tend to get a little nasty w/ smoke the later in the evening it gets. Just make sure you don't sit down at a table or slot machine next to a smoker and I'm sure you'll be fine. There's also great shopping in Cesars if you're a shopper! Relax and enjoy your time there!

i was about 15w with DD when we went. i had a blast.
there were only a handful of times where smoke bothered me but for hte most part the casinos are very well ventilated.
i could be wrong - but some might have no-smoking sections.
we did dinner, shows, pool, shopping - everything that we would have done if i wasnt pregnant - minus the drinks.

Well I've been here since yesterday afternoon, and I've hardly left the room. Not exactly the grand ol' time I was planning to have .

Maybe you could get an all day bus pass on the double decker & just walk around & sight see on both sides of the strip(if you feel safe enough to do that by yourself & being pregnant).
I ditto on what rancherswife says about shopping at Ceasar's. Also, the Aladdin Hotel/Casino is a great place to shop at!
I know you're in Vegas, but what about hitting the movie theatre near the M&M shop? Also, what about booking some fun shows for you to go see? How about "O" by Cirque Du Soleil (it's at the Bellagio)? I highly recommend seeing the show "O" - it is very pricey, but worth every penny!
I know there is a Price is Right Show that is going on over at Bally's - I believe it's hosted by Rodger Lodge. You have a chance at winning prizes/money! It's about $30-40.
You can always go visit the Wynn Hotel and/or go see the display over inside the Bellagio Hotel and the outdoor water show.
What about going downtown to see the laser light show w/your spouse?-I wouldn't go downtown by myself though esp., during the night. I liked going to the top of the Stratosphere & taking pics., but it may make you dizzy. It's kind of scary up there, but the view is spectacular!
Go to a day Spa and get a nice & relaxing massage! Hope you're able to find something fun for you to do!

Thanks for all the help ladies! I just don't have the energy to go out and sit through a show, or go shopping or anything. I'm pretty tight with my money, and I was really hoping to just gamble a little bit. Maybe tomorrow.

The money you spend gambling would be better suited to treating yourself to a massage or something.

Good lord, woman! Get out of the room. They pump oxygen into those casinos. Go gamble, or window shop, or whatever. Have ONE glass of wine. The kid'll be fine!

I found the mornings to be the best time to go down and gamble. There's less people out and about, meaning less smoke. And you can ask the cocktail ladies for non-alcoholic beverages (which are still free).
