Welcome Mommies-to-be!

Please take a moment to look over your information in the first few posts to make sure it is correct. When checking in with the new thread, please check in with this information (if you'd like to!):

1) Update your Gender Predictions! It'll be fun to see if women's intuition holds true.

2) Let us know what Team you'd like to be a member of.
• Team Blue = Having a boy
• Team Pink = Having a girl
• Team Green = Having a surprise
• Team Yellow = Don't know the gender yet.

Thanks to the previous mommies’ threads for all the ideas and inspirations for the June 2007 ladies!

Reposted from the last thread:

Stacie, oh yeah, I always shake my head at the "new" products the marketers come out with all the time!

GA GAL, I think one of our links on page 1 gives a list of pregnancy-safe meds. I know the Benadryl types are and Tylenol products. I hope you're feeling better soon! Great work on getting your Christmas cards done! I'm bringing mine on the plane this week and hope to get a good chunk of them done. Your TG sounds like it will be great. Is it bad that I'm glad I'm pregnant this year so I can eat all I want w/o feeling guilty? ;)

magrat, I understand what you mean! I am so ready to be rid of the nausea, but I know I'll be nervous w/o any symptoms. I can't wait till I can feel the babies move! A friend of mine IRL CDs and loves it. We considered it till we found out we were having twins but now I don't think we will. I've read about it, but honestly I think we're going to be overwhelmed enough with two infants, so I think we may take the easy way out.

Sarah, good grief! I think all of you need this long weekend! I hope you enjoy all of it. I'm sorry your SIL is being like that. I can understand her feelings in a way, but I don't think that's any reason for treating you the way she is.

prentiss, enjoy tomorrow! Good luck to your DH!

em1126, I think I'm officially giving up on my regular clothes now. I'm starting to put together a new wardrobe a few pieces at a time. I have to say, I'm enjoying shopping without worrying about fitting into the skinny pants and stuff that are in style now! I hope your cold is gone soon!

Well, I'm officially on vacation and I'm loving it! Tomorrow DH and I are spending the day at home, just the two of us, and then on Friday we fly to my family in FL for a week. We're having a belated TG feast Friday afternoon with my whole family and a few family friends. I think I have everything covered at my office, so hopefully I'll really be able to be on vacation next week and not have to check in and take care of stuff remotely.

So, today I got a lot done early at work so I took almost 2 hours and went shopping. First I went to Old Navy and bought these:

http://www.oldnavy.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/436/436124/category/on436124-01viv01.jpg http://www.oldnavy.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/435/435954/category/on435954-01viv01.jpg http://www.oldnavy.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/435/435954/category/on435954-02viv01.jpg

I love the shirts b/c they have a fitted band around the bottom, so I can kind of set them on my hips where I want the bottom to fall and then the shirt blouses out over that to fit my belly. And even now the extra material just sits there and doesn't look silly, so I can wear them now and also as my belly grows. I don't like how a lot of maternity t-shirt type shirts just kind of hang and don't look finished at the bottom, so I'm really glad I found these!

And also at the Gap, I lucked out and found a pair of black jeans on clearance for $20:

Hi everyone, i got so far behind in the old thread I wasn't sure how to catch up. I amstill doing well though dealing with hyperemesis with this pregnancy which has been awful. I have been very sick since 6 wks and while taking zofran it is only moderatly helping. I am sad that I am not enjoying this pregnancy more, each day is a struggle to make it through and my poor 3 year old, talks about my throwing up all the time.

The baby though is growing fine we heard the heartbeat at 9wks and we have our next ultrasound on Dec 1.

wishing you all a happy thanksgiving!

Thanks for the great new thread gymwidow! I'll join you under surprise package!

em1126 I'll try and put together a really basic overview of CDing, from what I can tell it doesn't seem all that much more trouble than disposables, especially considering all the benefits.

StacieLady Yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one here who will be CDing! I guess I never really considered using disposables. I have *very* little experience with babies, and my parents used CDs on me (chinese prefolds and plastic pants of course) and I only ever saw my cousins in disposables which seemed to me as a child as being really trashy and gross. I hated to hold a baby (the few times I have) and feel the plastic under their clothing. I know I wouldn't want to wear a disposable, so I can't really in good conscience put one on my child. It's not so much about the environmental impact to me, though of course that's part of it.

Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!! :) Hope you're eatting lots of turkey! :)

Thanks for the new thread Gymwindow. Please move me to Surprise Package. We're undecided if we want to find out or not, so I'll just stay there for now.

Well I get to finally tell my parents in the next few hours. I'm nervous for some reason although I know they're going to be estatic.

Yeah for the new thread! :) Sorry I've been MIA. You can put me under the surprise package too, like Risa we are unsure yet if we will be able to keep it a surprise or just have to know!

Happy Turkey Day to all of you! We already had our Thanksgiving in October cuz I'm in Canada.

I hope the nausea ends soon. I was sick this morning. I actually forgot to take my prental last night and thought maybe I wouldn't be so bad when I woke up b/c I thought me feeling sick was partly due to the prenatals but I felt even worse this morning. I had nothing in my tummy so I was just throwing up bile (sorry TMI) yuck! not fun!

I told my boss at work yesterday that I was pregnant b/c she was starting to think something was up since I used to talk about trying for a baby and then that all of a sudden stopped! Oops! She's smart! So I told her and she cried! She is so excited! I've worked for her for about 10 years now so we're really close. She has a tendency to not be able to keep secrets so I hope she does b/c I am not telling everyone else at work until 3 months which is not too far away.

I think I need to go out and buy a bella band this weekend my pants are starting to get tight, especially after I have lunch! Right now I'm sitting here with my button on my pants undone and my fly down! :o

I don't have time to do SO's right now cuz I'm at work but have a great end of the week girls!

And thanks again gymwindow for setting up the new thread! :)

Just wanted to stop by and say Happy Thanksgiving. I'm sitting at MIL's right now supposed to be looking up what new games they have for V-Smile for DS.:p Way to tired to do SO's right now. I've had 2 HUGE meals and about 3 pieces of cheesecake, plus some ice cream. I went back home in between places we had to go and changed into some sweat pants. I felt like I was going to explode and couldn't take wearing my jeans anymore. Well, I should get back to the Christmas list. Thanks gymwidow for getting the new thread going!

My parents were soooo happy! My mom was screaming and my dad was laughing. I had my sister videotape it but unfortunately she only had a little over a minute left on her memory. She uploaded it to Google so you actually can watch it at video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-865490794618562470). And that was me on the phone since they live 1/2 way across the US from me.

risa That is so cool! I wish we had a video like that of my parents being told :)

MexicoBride When I first read your post I was like "well, everyone unbuttons their pants on Thanksgiving!" but then I reread it and saw you're in Canada so I guess that doesn't count :)

We told some more of my family today. Only a few minutes after DH and I arrived at my aunt's house my mom started making faces at me to indicate I should tell them, so I said "oh, fine then...mom can't stand it anymore, go ahead and tell them" and so she did :) They were very happy for us, and my cousin's new wife especially looked excited - I'm sure she'd love to have a baby soon but I doubt my cousin will go for that. The funny thing is my cousin's cousin (his other side of the family, but also distantly related to me) Amy has also just announced that she's pregnant, and she's the same age as us. And she just got married in September. Apparently no one is asking her when she's due, but it may end up being "premature" if you know what I mean ;)

I have to go to work tomorrow :p I underestimated my need for a four-day weekend and didn't want to use any more PTO than I have to because I want to save if for the baby. There are only going to be like 4 of us out of over 20 people in my department, so it should be pretty quiet. I'm pretty bummed about having to go though, because I'm so tired.

almostthere I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten. I was that sick for only a couple of weeks & it was wretched. my heart goes out to you & i hope you're feeling better soon!

gymwidow Thanks so much for the new thread - it's fabulous!!!

My updates: I had an u/s on Wednesday & got to see the baby, which was pretty amazing. I have a pic, but likely will not get around to scanning it in. lazy me. The u/s tech gave me a due date of May 28th, but I'm leaving it at June 1st. The dr. agreed that they don't usually change due dates, even though, I picked mine w/o the 1st day of my lmp. I guess they trust me! ;)

We found out the gender w/DS & it was the right decision for that pregnancy, but this time, we'll be on team GREEN, since this is likely my last pregnancy. phew. oh & my gender prediction is BOY !

I'm so excited to finally get to post in here :D! My DH wanted our families to be the first to know, so we told them yesterday at Thanksgiving. Like risa, we have it on video, so I'll have to upload it for you guys.

Here are some u/s pictures of our little Ducky at 9w3d. S/he measured at 8w3d and the yolk sac measured at 9w3d, so they averaged the age of the baby to be 9w0d, but my ob kept my due date based on my LMP. However, I think I O'd late, so I'm pretty sure I'll be going past my due date.

All of these ultrasounds pics are so cute! I REALLY can't wait until I get to have mine. I hope the time goes by fast if I do have to wait until around 16 weeks that's a whole 6 weeks longer I have to wait!

Thank you :D! Yep, DH and I were on Dr. Phil back in April, because I was bugging him to start a family and he didn't want to yet. We had a great time on the show. I hope you feel better soon!

mexicobride,
Thank you :D! I figured my due date was going to be June 27th, based on when I think I O'd, but my ob is still going with the 17th, so we'll see what happens. I just know I'm going to be "late."

Ladies, I'm having a little scare this morning.

I have been using Lavender oil as aromatherapy since forever. But learned this morning that it could be harmfu to the baby while pregnant...I didn't do it with DS (because the smell was just yucking me) , and now I'm basically freaking out...
I hope I haven't cause anything wrong :(
Anybody got info on this??

risa00 - Love the video! What a sweet momento you have now!

stevesbabygirl - Congratulations and welcome!!

daphne - Sorry that you are still sick. That is such a bummer. But hopefully it will be letting up soon now that you are in your second tri.

MexicoBride'05 - The u/s pics are so cute huh?! I won't be having my u/s until 18-20 wks, so I'll be waiting right along with you! I haven't even heard the hb yet, so I'm dying here! :) I have longer cycles so I know that I will also go past my due date, probably by at least a week or 2.

GA_GAL - I can't wait to find out the gender either so that I can start decorating! PBK has very cute stuff!

Cosmogirl - I don't know anything about lavender oil during pregnancy...sorry :( Do you have a nurse advice line you can call about it, or your OB? (though I know it's the weekend)

Anybody experiencing sciatic nerve pain? I have it so bad; since about 8 wks. I did read a thread about it. I've had it before from running. What stinks is that I can't really run with it, so I haven't gotten a good cardio workout in about 2 wks :( I really wanted to stay in good shape during my pregnancy, but I know I have to rest it so it doesn't get aggrivated. For now I am just sticking with walking. I'll be seeing my OB (for the first time...woo hoo!) tomorrow, so I will ask then.

Happy Sunday!

magrat
11-26-2006, 09:32 AM
cosmogirl I looked it up and all I could find were recipes using lavender oil while pregnant to help relax you and stuff, so it can't be that bad. If I were you I would ignore all the advice about stuff that's bad for pregnant women, it's all ridiculous. There have been two threads in the June moms section on mothering.com - one with a woman panicking because she ate tabouli and she heard parsley is bad for pregnant woman, and another who had chocolates that had alcohol in them (only it turned out they didn't). Everything in moderation, okay?

I am kind of thinking we should have waited longer to tell my parents - my mom is so excited I don't know if I can stand it for the next however many months! We went out with them yesterday and we went to a couple baby stores because there was a sale this weekend and they are going to buy the crib and dresser. She was really pressuring me to order one that we saw and liked because it was on sale, but it's just way too early for me. I really don't want to pick out the first one I see and anyway the saleswoman said they're always on sale. I managed to resist and will think about buying one in a few months, but geez, I'm only 11 weeks so far! I was embarrassed even to be talking to the saleswoman knowing how far I have to go. She also mentioned baptism and argued a little about how it was my responsibility to do it and I just said we're not and I don't want to discuss it. Hopefully she won't bring it up again, but that's probably asking too much

I'm feeling a lot better lately, and am hoping for a return of energy as well soon.

almostthere, I really hope that as you get further along you start feeling better!

magrat, I hope you had a quiet day at work on Friday. I hope your mom doesn’t drive you too crazy. Can you talk to her and ask her to not mention stuff like that, or will she just respect your wishes if you tell her that you’ve made your decision and would appreciate it if she respected that.

risa, That is such a FABULOUS video you have! Your kids will enjoy watching that someday.

MexicoBride, I hope you’ve been feeling better. That’s awesome that your boss was so excited for you.

micd, have you tried stretching or putting heat on the sore spot? I haven’t had any pain yet, but my DH gets that sometimes.

GA GAL, thanks, I’ve worn everything already! Everything is so comfy and it’s nice to just let my tummy hang out. PBK has the cutest stuff. I love a few of their things, and the inspiration for my planned nursery decorations came from a page in one of their catalogs. I loved the way they had the walls painted in the room in the catalog and am hoping to do something similar to our nursery.

Sarah, lol, I love elastic waistbands!!!

Cosmogirl, 2 weeks will go by fast, I’m sure. Hmmm, I have a page somewhere that my massage therapist gave me that has a list of do’s and don’ts for scents and oils and stuff during pregnancy. I’m not sure if I brought it to FL to with me, but I’ll take a look.

L&D Nurse, I hope you’re having a great time at Disney!

daphne, yay for an u/s! When is your next appt?

stevesbabygirl, welcome, and a big wow to being able to keep it a secret so long! Congrats! Very neat about Dr. Phil! Is he a nice guy in person?

We had a good TG and have been enjoying a visit with my family so far. It’s nice to not have any responsibilities! My mom has even been walking the dog more than DH or I have!

I had some spotting the last couple of days, but not a lot and I didn’t worry about it. Then this morning I woke up at 5:30 to go to the bathroom and there was a lot of bright red blood. Of course I panicked. I managed to sleep a little more and then by the time I got up for real it wasn’t bad at all. We still called the doc and he said it’s probably nothing, but to take it easy and stay off my feet today, and my mom is calling her GYN in the morning to see if I can go in for a quick u/s to check things out (at my doc’s rec). I feel okay otherwise and have been nauseous for much of the day, so hopefully all is well and it’s just my body doing it’s “normal” thing and bleeding randomly, a lot. Sigh.

Okay, I’m being called to the car for dinner out with the ‘rents. I hope everyone has a great week!

BTW, I’m on vacation this week but will have internet access, so I’ll be checking in at least once a day and will make sure that updates are done! I’m glad everyone likes the new thread. I had fun putting it together!!! :D

ga gal,
I'm so neurotic, I bought my nursery set about a year and a half ago :p! It's the Classic Pooh collection from Target.

cosmogirl,
I'm sure that everything will be just fine!

micd,
No sciatic pain yet, but I have had this pain in the lower part of my back, like on my hip bone. I think I might have strained something lifting some boxes at work, because it's gotten a lot better over the past few days. However, I'm going to Vegas tomorrow, so I'm sure the 4 hours in a car will do it :p.

magrat,
It's so funny how parents get when they find out! I totally know how you feel about the "I'm only x amount of weeks, it's a little early!" I went into BRU the other day just to look around, and I felt like I didn't belong there, since I didn't have a huge belly yet.

gymwidow,
Thank you :D! We didn't get to spend much time with Dr. Phil outside of our taped segment. He did seem nice, but also very direct and to the point. I hope the bleeding turns out to be nothing!

I'm off to Vegas tomorrow ladies, so if I don't have internet access (which would SUCK!), then I'll see you all in a week! Any tips on how to have fun, gamble, and yet avoid all that nasty cigarette smoke?!

Welcome stevesbabygirl!!! I would love to see the video of your family once you upload it. It is a cool thing to have!

gymwindow - I'm sure it's nothing and the babies are fine but do update us once you see the doctor.

I had brown spotting on Saturday which totally freaked me out. I'm wondering if it's due to the 11-12 week mark or something. It was enough for me to change underwear and then wear a couple of panty liners. I haven't seen anything sense, but it did worry me a little. Now I have to wait 9 more days for the next u/s.

Hey ladies,
Sorry, no time for SO's right now because I'm at work, but I just got back from my doctor's appt. and I wanted to post an update. Everything looks good! Heartrate was 160 bpm (which theoretically means girl, but the ring/needle test says boy . . . hmmm), I've gained 3 lbs., & everything's measuring normally, so that's exciting. Even though I really have no reason to be, I was a little nervous! My next appt. is December 22. (Plus, I have a separate appt. for a quad screen on 12/20--not sure if that goes in the stats or not.) Hope everyone's having a good day!

I just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone really quickly. I love long weekends, but I hate trying to catch up at work after them. Didn't do much the rest of the weekend. I was pretty lazy, but I wasn't really very good Friday or Saturday. Tonight, I'm going out to dinner with my mom for my birthday tomorrow. My next appointment is December 13th!

I found out my ob/gyn doesn't deliver babies anymore, so I got shipped off to a new doctor's office. I hate them already. The office staff is so rude, cutting me off in mid-sentence to pick up their other line. And no matter how many times I said it, they just couldn't understand it when I told them my doctor doesn't deliver babies anymore. Plus, when they sent me the packet of information to fill out, I had to pay postage on it because they didn't put enough!

Hi ladies, just a quickie post to say that the babies are fine!!! :) My mom's doc wouldn't do an u/s b/c I'm not a patient of theirs, but they referred me to a radiology center that does u/s and I had a very in-depth one, must longer and more detailed than I expected! The upside of that was that we got quite a show and saw our babies for a long time, up close. They were all over the place and actually got into a fight while we looked on! Seriously, we saw Costello (a/k/a Twin B) jumping away from the sac wall every so often and then when she had them both onscreen at the same time we saw that Costello was actually jumping away in response to Abbott (a/k/a Twin A) kicking him square in the back!!! Then as we watched Costello turned around and punched Abbott. We saw the little fist come out and everything. Sheesh, I'm in for it with these two! We got some great new pics that I'll scan and upload soon. For now, the bleeding has completely stopped and I feel so much better.

After the radiologist we went to BRU for the first time. It was so much fun to wander around and look at stuff. DH saw a bouncy seat and a swing that he insisted we had to have, and we chose a pattern for our infant seat and tandem stroller (we're going to get the Gracos). It's this one:

http://www.gracobaby.com/assets/images/product/8646RRY3_z.jpg

and this is the stroller:

And with that I'm off. Happy Monday night everyone!

gymwidow: How funny about your little ones punching. I'm so glad that everything is OK and that you got to see them so well on the u/s. I like the stuff you picked out at BRU. So much fun looking, isn't it?

stevesbabygirl: Hope your new doctors office will get their act together. I know that must be frustrating. I'm glad to hear someone else has their nursery planned out. I almost bought bedding this weekend b/c it is being discontinued at PBK, but decided to hold off b/c I saw some other stuff I like. I guess yours is gender neutral? Have fun in Vegas!

em1126: I'm dying to know the sex of our baby. Can you explain the bpm thing and how you know if it is girl/boy and also that needle/ring test you mentioned. It would be fun to try.

risa00: I'm sure the spotting was probably very scary, but I'm glad to hear it has stopped. Hopefully the next 9 days will pass quickly for you.

So I decided to switch doctors today. When we first moved here a year ago I saw a large practice before going to the fertility specialist. After getting pregnant, I decided to go with a friends recommendation. She loved her doctor and was just about to give birth, so I went to see him too. I really liked him, but his practice was very small (just him) and although there was a network that he belonged too, I wasn't sure how I'd like that. I called to change the time of my apt. for next week and could never get anyone on the phone. When I finally did she told me, "I needed to call you b/c he's going to be out until Jan. and we needed to refer you to see one of the other drs. in the network." I understand people have to take vacation, but I'm not comfortable with it being so long and there not being anyone else in that office I can see.

I ended up calling the large practice I was at before (also have some friends who go here) and they got me scheduled for Dec. 11th. I'll have to wait a few more days, but I think I'll be happier in the end. It's a well known and respected practice, with at least 10 drs. and I'll get to see all of them. That way, when ever I deliver, I'll at least have met the one who will be on call. I was really upset this afternoon by all of this and freaking out a little, but feel good about my decision to go with my gut and change. Plus, I'm glad I realized this now, rather than a few months down the road.

gymwidow,
Ooh, I like that pattern! I saw that in the store too and I loved it. I'm going with the Moonstruck pattern by Graco because it has the safe seat, which holds babies up to 30 pounds and 32 inches, or something like that. Since DH and I are both tall, we worry about having giant babies :).

GA GAL,
Wow, that's a lot of doctors! The group I'm going to has 6, and I thought that was a lot! They couldn't get me in until mid-January for the doctor I requested, so I'm going to see the nurse practitioner on the 13th.

My DH has ditched me yet again, so he's downstairs playing craps while I'm sitting here in the room by myself.

stevesbabygirl your comment about giant babies cracked me up! Sorry about how rude your dr's office is. I'm going to the same one that delivered DS (different dr). They were quite rude the first time, but seem a lot nicer this time. Some of the staff isn't that great, but the nurses and drs are wonderful.

gymwidow How awful about the scare you had. I'm glad that everything is going well and that you got to see the babies. And how funny that they let you have a sneak peak about what you can expect from them once they are here.;) Love the stroller and carrier!

Nothing new here. Went out to dinner last night for my b-day (which is today). It was really good. I doubt we'll be doing anything tonight which is fine with me. I am so tired. I haven't been sleeping very well lately.

On Saturday my DS went to his cousin's house to play. They were messing around and he got hit in the face with a broomstick without the broom part on it. It cut his face up in a couple of spots. It didn't look too bad until he started picking at it. Now, it just looks like he got the crap beat out of him. Oh well, that's what little boys do.

QOTD What do you think your kids will look like? I'm thinking mine will have red hair like DH and SIL, or at least be blonde like me (both my parents have dark hair and MIL has dark hair too, so it's entirely possible it will have dark hair, but we'd all be shocked I think!). The height predictor (http://www.realsavvymoms.com/pregnancy/article.php?category2=8&article=52) says a girl will end up 5'7" and a boy will be 6'1". I'm worried that it'll have a weight problem like DH, but according to a recent article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6154220.stm) on the BBC a child's height is determined by its father and weight by it's mother, which means our kid will be tall and thin (oh please :) ). In DH's case that definitely holds true - his dad was tall and fairly thin and his mom is short and overweight - DH is tall and overweight. The one thing I can be sure about is that it will have blue eyes. It's genetically impossible for it to be otherwise since DH and I both have blue eyes :)

Welcome, stevesbabygirl!

gymwidow~ I'm glad the bleeding stopped and your little rumblers are just fine!

As for me, we made it back from California last night. I am having a lazy day today and resting up for work tomorrow. Thanksgiving day and Disneyland on Friday were fun, but I was sick on Saturday and Sunday. I threw up Saturday, which I haven't done in over a month :( Sunday I just felt like I wanted to... yuck.

Happy Tuesday, June Mommies!

FINALY hitiing the double digits lol:p
Today, I'm BEAT. I don't feel so queasy, but god do I have NO energy. None, niet, nada, I would just saty in bed all day not doing anything if it wasn't of my damn test this afternoon...
Oh well, I know what I'll do tonight!;)
Have a good one ladies, i have to get going for my exam.

Cosmogirl Congrats on hitting the double digits! Hopefully, you start to get your energy back soon. I'm at a little over 13 weeks and I'm starting to feel slightly more energetic. Some days I'm wiped out, others I'm pretty good. Hope your exam goes well!

L&D Nurse Glad you made it back from CA! That must have been a long trip. It's hard going through all those time zone changes and everything. It sounds like you're feeling better, so hopefully that continues!

Sarah6690 Happy birthday! I just had a birthday, too. I'm kind of sad it's over. Hope you're able to sleep better soon!

stevesbabygirl Welcome! Hope you're able to find something entertaining to do in Vegas.

GA_Gal I would be happy to explain the BPM and ring/needle thing. From what I've read, if the heartrate is less than 140 BPM, it's a boy; if it's more than 140 BPM, it's a girl. With the ring/needle thing, you take either your wedding ring or a needle and tie it to a string. Then, you hold it over your wrist or belly (I've heard it both ways). If it goes back and forth in a straight line, it's a boy; if it goes around in circles, it's a girl. FWIW, my baby's BPM would indicate girl and the ring/needle test says boy. Do you have an ultrasound appt. set up to find out your baby's sex? Mine's Jan. 10. I can't wait! :)

gymwidow Glad the babies are fine!

QOTD What do you think your kids will look like? Fun question! I think mine will have blond, curly hair which will probably get darker later as both mine and DH's did (although I would love to have a redhead). I think (hope) green eyes. It will probably be on the shorter side. DH is bald so hopefully it will not inherit that characteristic (especially if it's a girl--LOL!) You never know, though. One of my friends from college has dark hair, eyes and complexion and has a blond, blue-eyed, fair-skinned baby!

Threadmistress--Can you add my due date as June 3rd? Thank you!!

WooHoo! Snow Day for me! :D
I just took my dog out to a field across the street from our house (as we do not have a fenced yard), and she was INSANE! She loves the snow and would not stop rolling in it. She was a mess, but so cute!

Sarah6690 - Happy Birthday!

Boy, it's sometimes hard to keep up in here! I had my appointment yesterday. It was just an intake, so very informational, as well as having 5 viles of blood taken! I confess that I am always fearful of having blood drawn, but this lady did a good job and got it done quick. My next appt is December 19. That seems so far away...but that is when I will get an exam and hear the hb! My hospital is a training hospital, so they have studies that they do. I signed up to be part of a gall bladder study. They want to see how exercise effects the gall bladder. So, I will get to work with a trainer at first, and, the best part, I will get 3 ultrasounds (one in each trimester, I think)!

QOTD - Wow, I haven't really thought about it. I think our kids will probably be pretty athletic (as DH is). They will probably be shorter, maybe blond hair at first and then getting darker, probably lighter eyes. Most likely straight hair, though my sister has curly hair. Though, they could be completely opposite, dark hair, dark eyes, as DH's dad is Spanish (though DH doesn't look it at all). So interesting to think about.

So, we have a huge blanket of snow here in Seattle yesterday and today, making for a SNOW day for me! That is great news from a work standpoint, but my first doctors appointment was supposed to be today and now we had to reschedule for next week, boo! So, my new appointment is for Thursday, December 7th.

It is pretty weird, I am not really feeling pregnant now like I was between 5-7 weeks. Anyone else feeling this way? I have not had any spotting or anything like that which would cause worry. Still a bit tired, but not like I was a couple of weeks back.

Hope all is well with everyone!

magrat
11-28-2006, 12:43 PM
elissa I'm still pretty tired, but my stomach is definitely getting back to normal, and I've actually had enough energy the last few days to help out around the house a little! It's totally normal for morning sickness to trail off at this time, so I'm just grateful more than everything. I'm not going to stop worrying until I hear the heartbeat at my next appointment, a week from today. There have been so many losses in the June moms on mothering.com to know we're not out of the woods yet. I have no reason to worry, but I don't want to be too confident yet either.

Congrats on all the recent successful appointments! It had been a while there without any doctor visits, but now it looks like there are a bunch of them coming up.

No snow here in MN yet (though we had a dusting last month). In fact, we had a thunderstorm today! It's supposed to get cold quickly starting tomorrow now. We're all trying to enjoy the warmish weather while we can because it's going to be a loooong time before it happens again.

SNOW day for me too! I was really hoping it would be because I just didn't want to go to work. :) It is neat because we live on a cul-d-sac with a bunch of little kids and they were all riding sleds down the hill on the ice. They were having a blast. I wish I had a little one to participate in the fun. Right now I'm drinking hot chocolate watching A Baby Story on TLC. :)

gymwindow - Glad to hear your little ones are doing great. It's not funny that your twins are already fighting but I just had to laugh that here they are not even developed and they're not getting along. My gender prediction for you is 2 boys. :) Love the pattern you picked out. Exactly where did you research for the stroller and car seat, etc. I know nothing about this stuff and don't really know where to start.

GA GAL - I think you'll be much happier with the other doctor's office that has multiple doctors and has receptionist's that do answer and return calls.

micd - Did you watch the Seahawks game last night? That was a great game!!! I rarely watch football games from beginning to end, but that was tense.

Sarah - Happy Birthday! :)

QOTD - Both DH and I are tall with light brown hair so I think baby will be. I have a feeling the baby will get my ears which came from my dad.. Big ears that stick out. :( DH and I are thin so I think later in life the baby will be thin but I was one chubby baby when I was born so ours might do the same especially since I'm already up 10 pounds at 12 weeks. I hope he'll have DH's blue eyes, but I have a feeling he'll have my hazel ones. And I want him to have my nose and not my DH's as his is on the bigger side.

Sarah,
Happy birthday :D! Ouch for your DS!

L&DNurse,
Thanks :D! I live in So Cal, about 20 minutes from Disneyland!

Cosmogirl,
Welcome to double digits :D!

em,
Thank you :D! I haven't found anything yet, except sitting in my room, hating my husband, and playing on the laptop .

micd,
Yay for a snow day and yay for 3 ultrasounds, woo hoo!

elissa,
I caught some of the Green Bay - Seattle game last night and I thought they were playing in GB with all that snow! I think I feel more pregnant now, but I think that has to do with the fact that we finally started telling people.

magrat,
That's scary that there are still June losses going on at this point! I guess it's never really a sure thing. I was so terrified that once we started telling people, something would happen. So far so good though.

risa,
Sounds like a nice afternoon! I wish I got TLC in this hotel room!

QOTD - I have no idea what my kid is going to look like. Even though DH has brown eyes, my entire family has blue, so I think the recessive gene will win out on this one. I also think s/he will have blonde hair that will gradually get darker to either a dark blonde or a light brown. I'm guessing s/he will be tall and thin as well.

I'm so angry at my DH right now ! He was out until 11 last night playing craps, and then this morning, he ditched his first session of his conference halfway through, and played craps! I could not believe he did that, and he lost $100 in about 20 minutes. I could seriously maim him. He has his poker allowance (he has a bit of a gambling problem so I have to give him an allowance), plus some other money that I'm holding onto that I'm now refusing to give him. Ack!

No snow day here in Florida. We did have rain and a high of 80, though. I'm jealous of those who get the white stuff. :)

stevesbabygirl, I haven't welcomed you, yet. So, congratulations and welcome!

magrat, glad you've had some good days. Enjoy those, and don't work too hard.

gymwidow, it's good to hear everything is going well with the little ones. Like Risa00, I predict two boys. They are already rough-housing.

cosmogirl, welcome to the double digits!

sarah6690, sorry about your DS, but good to know it's not serious.

QOTD: I'm sure these babies will be a good blend of my DH and myself. My DD has a good mixture of both our qualities. I'm so glad she got my DH's dimple. She has blonde hair, while my DH and I have brown. So these kids could have either.

We took Reagan to get her Christmas pictures done yesterday. It was sooooo much easier this time around than at Easter. She actually let the ladies pose her, and she would stay still. Here are a few of the pictures:

stevesbabygirl, I also felt funny shopping till now. I went to Destination Maternity a couple of weeks ago and felt like I was just pretending to be a pregnant chick. Now that I’m starting to show, I feel a little more like I belong. Dr. Phil definitely seems like the direct to-the-point kind of guy. That’s neat you got to meet him. I’m sorry you have to switch doctors! I hope the new place gets a little better, or that you’re able to find someone else perhaps that you’re more comfortable with. I don’t think I saw the moonstruck Graco pattern, but I’ll go check it out. I saw the safe seat at the store. That looks like a great carrier. LOL to your big baby comment! Good planning ahead! ;) What hotel are you staying at in Vegas? Is it warm enough to go to the pool? I hope you’re enjoying the trip a little bit and that DH has remembered he has a wife there with him!

risa, other than my episode of red on Sunday, all the spotting I’ve had (this is my second episode, but it’s lasting longer than my first) has been brown spotting. Kind of like brown CM. If you’re not cramping or it’s not heavier, don’t worry too much. All right snow day! Next year you’ll be out there with your munchkin, all bundled up in a cute snowsuit. :) Oh boy to your boys prediction! I better get DH ready to play ref! I think it was actually easier for me to research strollers since there are only a limited number of double strollers our there. I used the double strollers thread on CC a lot, and I also read reviews in Baby Bargains and on that website, plus at epinions and one other baby site that had parent reviews. I ultimately decided to get one tandem stroller and one side-by-side. They each seem to have their pros and cons and are good for use in different situations. Along with the Graco DuoGlider, we’re going to get a Zooper Tango:

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000CQXYPK.01._AA280_SCLZZZZZZZ_V62663967_.jpg

For car seats, again I read the CC thread and also Baby Bargains. The Graco is such a popular one and just about everyone I know with a baby has used it and likes it, so that was an easy choice. For a convertible seat, the Britax jumps out as the best. I was debating between the Roundabout, Marathon, and the new Boulevard. Once my dad saw the Boulevard at BRU and saw the head protection it added, he declared that that was the only one good enough for his grandbabies! It’s about $80 more than the Roundabout, though, and since we need two of them….. I’m still undecided, but we have plenty of time to figure that out since they’ll be in the infant seats for most of their first year.

Cosmogirl, I couldn’t find the printout she gave me in the stuff I brought down with me, but I’ll see if I can google something for you. I hope your test went well today.

em1126, I’m glad that you’re appointment went well and that baby is good!

Sarah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you had a great day today!

GA GAL, oh, yes, looking is soooo much fun! We’re probably going to start our registry next month. My mom’s friends are throwing a shower for us down here at the end of January, so as soon as those invites go out, Mom says we should have the registry up and running. It sounds like you made a good decision to change doctors!

L&D Nurse, lil’ rumblers is a good one! I like that! I’m glad you had a good first half of the weekend, but so sorry that you were sick again. I hope that’s 100% over for you soon!!!

micd, yay snow day! We haven’t even had temps low enough to hint at snow yet this year. Not that I’m complaining about that! ;) Dec. 19 will be here so fast, before you even know it!

elissa, yay another snow day! I definitely had more days where I DIDN’T feel pregnant than where I did. Now I’m feeling it more and more because my belly seems to be expanding enormously. I am, however, ready to be rid of the nausea and queasiness!

magrat, I hope the week flies by for you so you can be listening to your little one’s h/b!

LoveBeingAMommy, I can’t remember, where in FL are you? We’ll be in Miami for the next 3 days. I am loving this warm weather! But I had to go out and buy 2 more short sleeve shirts today because I didn’t have any tops to wear! I think I am going to be exhausted chasing after these two. I can imagine what it’s going to be like when I can feel them moving and kicking and punching in just a few weeks! Reagan is so beautiful! Those are great pics.

QOTD, hmmmm, I’m guessing curly hair since I have a ton of it and DH’s hair tends to get curly when he lets it grow. I would love for them to have DH’s blue eyes. Mine are hazel, so I guess it’s possible that I’m carrying a blue eye gene somewhere that could come out. I hope they eventually inherit DH’s and his parents’ height, not my family’s short genes!

DH and I went today to tell my family rabbi about the babies. That was fun. He’s been my rabbi since I was 15 and he’s the one who married us, so we were really excited to tell him. After that we went outlet shopping and I did great! There’s a Motherhood Maternity at the outlet mall here and I got a lot. I got 4 pairs of pants (one cute pair of khaki capris and 3 for work), a blazer for work, 2 sweaters, 2 short sleeve tops, and a long sleeved blouse. And the prices weren’t bad at all! DH also did well – he got a dress shirt, 2 casualer shirts for work, a sweater, and 2 long sleeved t-shirts. We were only there for about 3 hours but I was exhausted and my back was aching. I was glad to come home and relax.

Tomorrow we’re having lunch with my cousin’s wife and their 9-month-old. I can’t wait to get some baby time in! We’re going to tell her the news (we can’t really hide it much more since I’m starting to LOOK pregnant) and tell her it’s okay to tell my cousin, but ask them to not tell the rest of that branch of the family for a few more days. Next Tuesday we hit 13 weeks and have our ultrascreen, and after that it’s going to be a free-for-all for telling all!

Have a great day tomorrow ladies. :)

gymwidow,
They don't sell the pattern at BRU, unfortunately. They sell it at Burlington Coat Factory, but I really don't want to do a registry there just for that, so we'll have to just buy it ourselves. Here's the pattern:

It's actually really cold here in Vegas right now. Low 50's during the day, and getting into the 30's at night. Brrr! This Cali girl doesn't do well in this weather!

Hello Mommies! You girls have been busy!!

We have lots of snow here too in Vancouver. No snow day for me though :( I got a ride with DH b/c he has 4x4. I have no sick days left anyways so there was no point in me calling in sick b/c I don't get paid.

It was so beautiful out today with all the trees covered in snow and it was nice and sunny today. They said we are suppose to get more snow tomorrow night  This is so not like the West Coast this time of year! We barely ever get any snow!

My next appointment was suppose to be tomorrow but I cancelled it b/c of the snow that's expected so I will probably go next week instead.

Before I was counting my weeks by the date I think I'm due and not by what my doctor was going by and I thought to myself I might as well go by the date he is going by as it's 4 days later that what I think and that means 4 days closer to my 16 week ultrasound date! So on Thursday I will be 11 weeks and then only another 5 weeks or so (hopefully) until my 1st ultrasound! :)

I went to the dentist today. I told them I was prego and they said that your hormones can make you get more build up than normal so to floss all the time etc. I have to go back in 3 months instead of 6 to get some more scaling done. At least I had no cavities! :D

I'll be back to do SO's in a bit!

QOTD I think that if we have a boy he will look just like DH. Our DS looks EXACTLY like DH did when he was that age. You wouldn't even know that he is mine... he looks and acts just like him.

L&D Nurse Sorry you were sick for part of your trip. That's just not fun. Pretty much everyone that I have talked to that went somewhere for the holiday ended up being sick.

Cosmogirl Congrats on hitting double digits! I know what you mean about no energy. Some days I feel great, others not so much. Hope your exam went well.

em1126 I just wanted to add to what you said about the hb. The ultrasound tech told me that in the beginning the hb is usually higher and it starts to slow down in the 2nd trimester.

micd yay for getting extra ultrasounds. I'll probably only get one more. I can't wait for it!

elissa I know what you mean about not feeling pregnant. Some days I feel very pg, but like today I don't feel anything at all.

stevesbabygirl Sorry your DH is being such a brat. Tell him that he's supposed to be spending time with you, not running around like a teenager!;) Boys are so silly.

LoveBeingaMommy Your DD's pictures are adorable! What a cutie!

Gymwidow I'm impressed with all the research you've done! Hope you're having fun telling people. I love seeing their reactions.

Thanks to everyone for the b-day wishes. The funny thing is, the only people that called me yesterday was my mom and brother. I'm really ticked that some people didn't even bother with a phone call. Like my dad. That just pisses me off. DH is so sweet if not a little slow. He got me a present, but I won't get it for another week or so. He had to order and waited too long. I finally get a real wedding band! We didn't have enough money when we got married to get the band, so I had been using my grandma's old one. I am quite proud of him since he usually isn't so good at buying gifts. Hope everyone is having a good day!

gymwidow, I'm in the Tampa area. I haven't decided on which double-stroller to get, yet. I have the new Baby Bargains book waiting at the library for me. It was like my baby gear bible when I was pregnant with my DD. I have the Peg Perego Venezia single stroller that I love, but it won't work for two. So, we'll probably sell that. Good choice on the Graco infant carseats. They are very highly rated by Consumer Reports. We'll have to pick up one more of those. My DD is in the Britax Marathon right now. We love it, and I know we'll chose a Britax product when it's time for convertible carseats.

I don't think we'll get a stroller, though it's hard to remind myself of that when it's one of those major things to shop for! We'll get a light umbrella type one when the baby can sit up, but until then we'll just carry it. I can't imagine ever using a travel system  But I already bought a sling! It's a Lucky Baby (http://www.lucky-baby.com) pouch. I decided to go ahead and get it because I can still accurately measure myself (don't wait to measure yourself until you're big if you plan on getting one!) and the design I wanted was limited edition. Of course they were sold out, but I found a brand new one in my size on eBay! Hurray! The fabric is Asian Cranes and is beautiful. They're a lot cheaper than hotslings and have really cool fabric choices. We'll probably just get a Graco carseat too, since they have such good ratings. Not too concerned about the pattern though, I don't really like any of them, so I guess it doesn't matter which :p

Farah,
I am sooooooooo behind on going to the dentist, it's embarrassing!

Sarah,
Yay for the new wedding band! Yeah, my DH is being a jackass right now. Lovely.

LoveBeingaMommy,
So I take it that you would highly recommend the Baby Bargains book? What kind of information does it have in there, other than the obvious?

magrat,
Ooh, there are some really cute patterns on that website! I've also heard a lot of good things about Moby Wraps, so I think I might get one of those.

Well my DH has partially redeemed himself. He won $2000 on a sucker bet in craps! I took half of it from him, so we'd at least go home with what we came with. I'm not really thrilled with him having the other half, but I couldn't take it all. I'm just worried that he's going to lose it all. I'd love to go home with twice what we came with, but he doesn't look at it that way. Ah well, at least maybe now I can go downstairs and play a bit. The Let It Ride table is calling my name right now!

Eh, I have the most horrible indegestion right now! I never get it, so it is quite a suprise.

MexicoBride'05 - I'll be 11 wks on Thursday too! I had my intate on Monday and told the nurse about my long cycles, and she said to just expect to go past my due date.

QOTD - What kind of provider are you going to be using...doctor, midwife, any others? Just curious. I decided to go with a midwife. As long as I don't have any complications, it seems like a good fit for me. The nurse I spoke with said that they are very personable and knowledgable, and then I would hopefully see the same person each time (with a doctor, I would definitely not see the same one each time). The doctors and midwives all work together in the hospital, so if there were problems, I know I would be okay.

QOTD - I'm going with a doctor. I was never into researching midwives or anything. I don't have a problem with them, and they're probably better than doctors, but I guess I feel more comfortable with a doctor.

stevesbabygirl, I do recommend the Baby Bargains book. I used as a starting point. As many of us know, walking into a store like Babies R Us can be very overwhelming. This book helped me weed out the good from the bad, and the most expensive products weren't always the best. I also had a subscription to consumerreports.org, so I could check some of the recommendations on there. I didn't go with everything the book recommended, but I will say I was happy with every baby gear item I had. The book basically gives you information for just about any type of baby item. For example, it'll explain the various choices of cribs and then grade it from A to D. Also included in the book are safety and money-saving tips, as well as a web/phone directory for hundreds of baby gear companies and online retailers. It's definitely worth checking out.

QOTD: I'm using a doctor. I really lucked out, because everyone at the office is so kind.

Good choice!:D
I heard they are good slings! But beware as if right now your weight is still OK for you to mesure up and get the right sling, it might not be the case right after birth, where you'll still have your preggo weight on. I did the same for my first, and ended up not being able to use the sling for several months as it was too small at that point, and since they are not adjustable, I was kinda screwed... It might be a good idea to look into something that is adjustable too ;)

Off to school again

But I do have a question for you ladies!
I am a little over 10 weeks now. And I was surpirsed in the last few day to see that MS seems to be going away. With my last pregnancy, it kept on going strong until at least 12-13 weeks. Anybody of you that had MS start to stop around 10 weeks? I CANNOT wait to see or hear the HB to ease my mind LOL. Only 1 1/2 week to go
thanks ladies!
have a good one!:D

Sarah That's so nice about the wedding band - we couldn't afford a diamond engagement ring at the time so I got a cheaper sapphire one that I like, but it's not much of an engagement ring. Someday he'll get me a different one :)

stevesbabygirl I am going to get a Moby Wrap too, I really like the look of them as well, they look so comfortable!

cosmogirl My m/s definitely trailed off around that time, thank goodness, so I wouldn't worry. I would be grateful :)

QOTD - What kind of provider are you going to be using...doctor, midwife, any others?

Midwife! I found a great practice through mothering.com (the only CNMs never labeled medwives). There are two of them and they have a female backup doctor, so I have appointments with both of them so I get to know each, and then whoever is on call will help me deliver. The hospital I'm going to has tubs for waterbirth so I can try that as well. It's disappointing that the Twin Cities doesn't have a free standing birth center considering how many crunchy and liberal people live here, but I think I've found the closest thing to it. All bets are off if there are the slightest complications though, because hospitals have "rules"

Hi girls, sorry I am so in and out. I am still very sick and it is disapointing to me how much I am not enjoying pregnancy. (one that esp took so long in coming). The baby is growing fine and I go in Monday for my NTS (supose to be Friday but we changed it). I am trying as best I can to muddle through work but it is hard. For those of you with older children, how old are they and when do you plan to tell them about the baby?

OMG! Yesterday it was 60 degrees out, today we have a high of 30. I'm not ready for winter. We are supposed to get 6-12" of snow tonight. It was a super warm November so I got a little spoiled, but I am so not ready for this!

magrat you know, as much as I loved my stroller with DS, I hardly used it at all. I'll probably just get an umbrella stroller as well. We still have the other one, but I don't see myself using it very often. We kept saying that I would get a wedding band but I really didn't think that it was actually going to happen. It wasn't really a big deal to me, so when he got it, I was really surprised.

Cosmogirl I am going to look into an adjustable sling. Also, it is completely normal for your ms to start to go away about this time. Mine did, but it came back and went away pretty much for good at about 13 weeks.

almostthere So sorry you are still feeling sick. Hopefully it will go away soon and you will be able to enjoy this. But even if it doesn't, at least in the end, you will forget all the unpleasantness. As for telling older siblings, my DS is going to be 5 next week and we told him a couple of weeks ago. He's been very good about the whole thing and asks me everyday to see my tummy and wants to know how big the baby is now.

threadmistress, please change my age to 25. Thanks

i've been following along and have little by little gotten up the nerve to post...needed to post in my prior mommys' threads though.

CC Name:lorbo
Me: lori, 35-i'm the oldest one here i think:(
DH: hubby, 36
Married: 12/1/01
TTC: this past summer
BFP: i have pregnancy brain so often can't remember
EDD: 6/15/07
Gender Prediction: i don't know...just a healthy baby
Any other children: DD-1/03
DS 1/05

a little about myself...part time veterinary technician, fulltime mom. this pregnancy was unexpected...i wouldn't say unplanned though. we thought we were out and i had resigned myself to getting in shape for the next 6 months or so. then the very heightened sense of smell and aversions started. i've had a few episodes of lots of red blood and lots of spotting that seems to have tapered off in the past few weeks. i have had 3 u/s already. 2 u/s to confirm there was no m/c. the last u/s was done by the perinatalogists as i am a high risk candidate immediately. i am rh- and was sensitized at some point. i had an amnio with DD and they determined she was - a few weeks later and the docs backed off on watching her so much. with DS, the stance from my set of docs was to watch dopplers of bloodflow thru the brain and treat when dopplers really rose...and that happened around christmas of 2004. i was hospitalized over new year's eve weekend, given steroid injections and DS received an in utero blood transfusion. 2 weeks later, he was in congestive heart failure and after much drama, he was delivered via emergent c/s at 32 1/2 weeks. he spent 5 weeks in 2 NICUs(the delivering hospital and my supposed to be delivering hospital). he had to go back to children's hospital of philadelphia a month later because he was severely anemic due to my pesky antibodies still killing off his red blood cells and his old transfused blood from hospital #1 was dying off. he surprised all of the staff there because he was pretty nonsymptomatic aside from being jaundiced(which was being treated by his reg doc and a GI doc)...his blood values were pretty bad though. he had a several small volume blood transfusions and a couple of larger volume transfers over a long weekend and we never looked back. we spent the next 2-3 months on pins and needles, ready to go back to CHOP-meaning i had the suitcase packed and at the door-and at his 9 month appt he was deemed a healthy normal baby. at his one year appt, his doc declared that he was done being a preemie and should be considered a normal one year old.

what that means...if this baby is negative...a normalish pregnancy-perinatalogists will watch monthly, though i do have to have an amnio in about 5 weeks. positive baby is a whole different matter-the amnio will determine blood type and if positive, cord sampling starts at 22-23 weeks along and they'll go from there to keep an eye on baby's RBC count-this pretty much guarantees an early c/s. a negative baby delivery could go either way-i would prefer a VBAC-as the c/s was killer-thank god i had drugs but i was too nice about telling the nurses i needed them. God willing, i'll BF again-DD was easy to BF, DS was a work in progress because his stay at the first hospital, he received a very simple formula and there was talk of switching him to another...though i was pumping every 4 hours, killing myself. his move to the 2 nd hospital started the transition back to breast and when we left the hospital...he was nursing on his own.
QOTD-i'm with a practice of docs with a midwife, though i'll be delivered by a doc...heavily watched by perinatalogists.
DD already knows and has proceeded to tell her preschool class:rolleyes: though my inlaws are unaware-major issues with them. DS is a typical 2 year old to be and i don't think he'll understand...maybe more when the time gets closer.

that's it about me for now...i don't post much, though i do check in

welcome, lorbo!

My appointment went well. Here's a summary:
- my b/p is good (110/60)
- I still haven't gained any weight (dr. wasn't concerned, she was glad I haven't lost weight)
- baby's hb is in the 160's, nice and strong (love that!)
- dr. felt the top of my uterus above my pubic bone and said I am measuring right on track :)
- they gave me a lab slip to check my hemoglobin and also to check for neural tube defects (that one is optional, still haven't decided if I'm going to do it because of the risk of false positives); blood has to be drawn between 12/17 and 12/31.

Next appt. is 1/4/07. There was no mention of setting an appt. for another u/s :( bummer. Hopefully next time!

Forgot to mention that after my appt. I bought my first pair of maternity pants! They are half-panel khaki cargo cords.

2nd QOTD~ Are you having a screen for neural tube defects and Down Syndrome (AFP, Triple/Quad/Ultra screen)? What is your reasoning behind either opting to do it or declining it?

I found this info on the screening on yahoo:
The alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) part of the triple or quadruple screen test estimates your risk of carrying a fetus with a neural tube defect such as spina bifida, abdominal wall defect, or certain types of genetic disorders.

The risk of having a baby with a neural tube or abdominal wall defect does not increase with a mother's age. In women of all ages, the risk of having a baby with an open neural tube defect is most influenced by their folic acid intake, high blood sugar related to diabetes, or high body temperature during the first 28 days of fetal growth and some rare inherited conditions. 1 The risk of neural tube defects also increases if the mother takes certain antiseizure medications while pregnant.

The triple screen and follow-up diagnostic tests can detect most, but not all, neural tube defects.

-Most women have a screen-negative result for neural tube defects. 2 This means that the triple screen shows no increased risk that a fetus has a neural tube defect.
-Of women whose alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level is high (suggesting a neural tube defect), only 1 in 16 to 1 in 33 actually has an affected fetus. 1 These women can then have fetal ultrasound or amniocentesis to see whether the fetus has a birth defect.
-Overall, the triple screen helps detect 80% of fetuses with open spina bifida and 97% of those with anencephaly. 2 A follow-up amniocentesis provides a definitive diagnosis.

as far as rhogam, i'm already sensitized...confirmed during the antibody screen while pregnant with DD...so rhogam won't help. though as i was released from the delivering hospital with James, they wanted to check my antibody levels and if they were extremely high, i was to receive rhogam to try to knock down that level...and they gave me the rhogam injection...i also had it with DD in the second trimester because my levels were supposedly mistakenly given as 0. rhogam only takes care of the D...i'm anti-C, anti-D and anti-duffy...so C and duffy are not affected by the rhogam injection regardless.

Welcome Lorbo! That's quite an ordeal you went through with DS! Here's hoping for an rh- baby!

QOTD 1 We're going with the standard doctor practice. I love the idea of midwives, and saw only midwives during the 30 weeks I was pregnant in England, but am sticking with the OB I found when we moved back to the States

QOTD 2 I went through with the screening because : 1. my OB recommended it and 2. My DH is a worrier to the *extreme* and anything to alleviate his concern is a good thing for me. Oh & 3. because we got an u/s out of it. If it had been any more invasive (ie amniocentesis or the like) I definitely would not have done it.

em1126: Thanks for the explanation. I'll have to try it this weekend! I don't have an u/s set up yet, but my next apt. is Dec. 11th, so maybe then I'll find out when my next u/s will be.

micd: It's really neat that you get to participate in the study and get a couple of ulstrasounds out of it! Sign me up!

elissa: The same thing happened to me. I 'felt' really pregnant from weeks 6-9, but at week 10 most of my queasiness went away and my boobs weren't as sore. This week it has come back a little, but not nearly as much. Headaches are my main bother now.

Cosmogirl: See my response above to elissa regarding m/s going away at 10 weeks.

risa00: I'm jealous of your snow day! It was 80 degrees here today and I'm ready for some fall weather.
LoveBeingAMommy : Your daughter's photos are adorable!

gymwidow: I love that red stroller you picked out. It sounds like you had a great trip to visit your family. You got some good deals on all the maternity clothes. Aren't the stretchy pants just so comfy?!?

MexicoBride'05: Lucky you for being closer to your u/s. I don't think mine will be until 20 weeks, but I'm going to do all I can do to have it a little sooner. Good to know about flossing. I hate to floss, but better get into the routine of it.

Sarah6690: Happy belated b-day!

stevesbabygirl : I'm glad your DH hit it big and came out ahead.

almostthere: Sorry you are still feeling bad. I don't have any other children, so won't need to worry about telling them.

lorbo : Welcome!!!

L&D Nurse: Glad your apt. went well.

QOTD 1: I'm going to have a regular OB. I just feel more comfortable with that choice. The women's hospital I'll be delivering at is brand new and really designed to make the entire experience as peaceful and pleasant as possible. The design and focus is to keep it from feeling like a hospital. It is really nice and I'm so happy to be able to deliver there.

QOTD 2 : I'm not sure yet. I've put some thought into it, but haven't made any decision yet. I'll be talking with my dr. at my next apt. on Dec. 11, so I'll probably have more info then.

I've started getting some really bad headaches. Has this been happening to anyone else? I've always gotten headaches, but I'm having them more frequently now. I also had a bad migraine the other night...not fun. Other than that I feel pretty good. More of my energy is coming back, but I've still been really hungry. I was at a Pampered Chef party tonight and everything was sounding good. Eating all the yummy stuff we cooked was the best part.

Cosmogirl - Yes, I noticed that my m/s was going away last weekend (I was 10 weeks), and now it is starting to come back, but only in the evenings, so that is better.

GA_GAL - I had a killer headache when I was at the gym tonight...I wasn't even working out hard. When I wasn't pg, I would only ever get headaches when I was dehydrated, so I don't know if that is the same now. I thought I drank a good amount of water today. That is too bad about the migrane.

lorbo - Congratulations and welcome! You have been through quite a lot!

QOTD - I actually talked to DH about this last night. I am not planning on having any of the screening done. Personally, it will just make me worry, so I would rather not know beforehand. The nurse also told me that the tests are not very accurate, but I don't really know that much about them.

Thanks. I'm feeling more heartburns lately then MS. I'm kinda happy with that though as MS was really killing me. Hoping it stays away or stays really mild like it does.

Though I'm afraid to jinx it, I feel like my queasiness is starting to let up. I'm still very aversive to eggs though.

It is beef for me lol. DH served me a plate wiht beef bourguignon last night(which I usually LOVE) and just saw it and was like ewwwww, get this thing out of my face. Interestingly enough, beef was also my aversion in my last pregnancy . Glad you are feeling better too. Makes pregnancy a whole lot more interesteing I guess.

i've been following along and have little by little gotten up the nerve to post
WELCOME MAMA! I hope this pregnancy will be sommther on you and your baby then the last time
I'm a vet BTW, cool to see a vet tech around

Cosmogirl - Yes, I noticed that my m/s was going away last weekend (I was 10 weeks), and now it is starting to come back, but only in the evenings, so that is better.

Well, glad that I'm not the only one that is feeling this way, although I don't feel them coming back. Maybe I'm really done. I'm having heartrburn though. I rather that then being nauseated all day though ;)

The same thing happened to me. I 'felt' really pregnant from weeks 6-9, but at week 10 most of my queasiness went away and my boobs weren't as sore. This week it has come back a little, but not nearly as much. Headaches are my main bother now.

but I've still been really hungry.

I had the headache thing in the first weeks. I never have migrate and got 2 really good ones. But this stopped when I started to have MS.
I hear you on being more hungry, yesterday, I had 2 breakfast, and 2 lunches :p

Me: The weekend is here finally. I'm feeling tons better then the last weekends, so I might be able to actually DO stuff this weekend...I still feel tired, and need occasional naps, but at least, it looks like MS is really subsiding, unless I don't eat regularly. My appetite seems to increase, but for junk food  I have yet to take weight though, and still no changes with my boobs... At this point last time, i was already in new bras. NOT the case this time!
Me feeling better is helping me enjoy more this pregnancy, but being overloaded by schoolwork is kinda not helping in me enjoying this. I wish I had as much time on my hand then last time just to enjoy the show KWIM? But X-mas vacay are almost here (OMG Decemeber 1st today! ) and I have a whole month so that should be good to me.
Still in regular clothes, aside for my button that is often too tight, the rest fits well, so I guess it would be time for me to find those elastic waistband that you can use to cover the top of your pants. I can see that I have a belly at night, but in the morning, you cannot see a thing.

QOTD: going with an OB. I would love to have a midwife, but since I had a very good experience with my OB last time, I'm sticking with him.

QOTD: I don't know yet what teste will be recommended to me. When I see my doc (2 weeks!!!!) I'll discusse this with him and see. But I don't think I'm a high risk pregnancy.

QOTD No tests for me. I want to avoid ultrasounds if possible and they're not accurate at all. My midwife asked if I wanted to do any tests and I said no immediately and she seemed pleased with my response. She said all they're likely to do is make you worry. I'm not high risk at all - I'd consider it if I were.

lorbo Welcome, and I'm crossing my fingers for an rH- baby for you! I think I read about your inlaws in another thread. If I were you I would just stop seeing them. Your DH can go visit by himself if he wants, it doesn't sound like they care one way or the other. I've always been of the opinion that you can in fact choose your family.

It seems my biggest symptom at the moment (besides tiredness) is acne! I haven't broken out this much in years. My face wash just isn't cutting it anymore. Good thing I'm not too bothered about my appearance or I'd probably be really upset

I haven't posted in a long time! You ladies have been busy in here! :)

Welcome new mommies! I can't believe you were able to wait this long to join! That takes a lot of control! :)

I have felt really good most of this week! It has been so wonderful! (wow, I am going to have to cool it with the exclamation points now. :o ) I had forgotten what it is like to feel human. It is great. I have a lot more heartburn (TUMS are my friend) and my boobs are tender and feel like they weigh about 8 lbs each. Oh, and my skin is so confused. I have these strange dry patches on each side of the crease between my bottom lip and my chin, and I have an odd patch of pimples on the left side of my neck, I get one or two in that same patch every week. STRANGE.

OB vs. midwife - I would love to have a midwife because I REALLY want to go natural, but I live in Arkansas, and apparently there aren't any here! I searched on line and found nothing. So I am going with an OB. I really like her though, so I am sure it will be okay. She seems to be really down to earth and not overly interested in "procedures".

Tests - We will probably get the test. I am not adverse to the idea, and my doctor recommends it, so I am just going to do it. I don't know what we would do if it were positive. My husband and I haven't discussed that yet. My guess is that we probably wouldn't be okay with an amnio.

Sounds like me. Some skin around my mouth is so dry, I was horrified when I looked in the mirror the other day because it was all white and flaking (attractive  ). But I have pimples all along my jawline. And talk about strange, I noticed this morning that I have matching pimples - one on each of my outer upper arms in the exact same spot. And this is while I'm scratching my legs and stomach all day because they're so dry and itchy.

Magrat - I am sorry about your skin. I have been having trouble with my back (talk about sexy!) Thank you for the link. :) The only problem is that they are all homebirth midwives, and I am really not quite up to that. I would be more than happy to go to a birthing center, especially one that had a good relationship with a hospital in case of complications, but I am not quite willing to have a go at it at home.

stacielady I'm not prepared for a homebirth either, as much as I believe in it :o I'm not worried about complications, but my house just wouldn't be as comfortable, I don't think. I thought I saw some mention of CNMs and a birth center in those threads, but if you like your OB, maybe you should just look into getting a doula?

I fourth this! I have Proactiv and it's just not cutting it. Even have medication from the dermatologist and that's not working either. Oh well... I didn't really care to look pretty for the holidays anyways. :p

Thanks so much for the welcome ladies!

Thanks Magrat!! Yeah hopefully there will more more lurkers coming out of the woodwork as they hit their second trimester! I was dying to post since I have been lurking since the day after I got my BFP ;)

omg micd!! Yes I totally remember you!! How is WA? (Yep I'm from Vancouver, BC). We are stationed in the UK...just under a year left. We got our chocolate lab when we moved here and he is so much fun. He is 15 months now...his name is Barley. So excited to see you on CC and how funny that we are in the same mommy to be group!

Hey ladies! Sorry I went MIA for a few days. I ended up not having internet access while we were in Miami, so I couldn't come by to say hi. We're going home this afternoon, though, so I'll catch up tomorrow and get all the updates done then.

Have a great Saturday!

New QOTD - What is your biggest pregnancy symptoms right now?

QOTD - I have 2, constipation and short term memory loss. Both are horrible! I don't know how I'm going to make it through 6 more months with the first one. augh! The second one is sooooo bad! I can't remember crap! My husband said he's going to get me a small pad and pencil that I can put around my neck and carry everywhere I go so I can write down things when I think of them. Couple of examples of this, I called my mom to tell her something big and luckily I got her voicemail because I couldn't remember what it was. Twice now I have turned on the computer to look up something and by the time it came up, I don't remember what it was that I wanted to look at. My DH just now was so sweet that he just started randomly naming things that I might be wanting to do and luckily he actually did say what it was so I better go look it up before I forget again! I didn't realize I would be such a ditz.

QOTD - My biggest pregnancy symptom right now is pretty much just the queasiness. I've noticed that I've had to pee more, and that I'm psychotically hormonal, but that's pretty much it. Oh yeah, and my aversion to eggs. My BMs have been unusual too.

So I found out earlier this week that my high school reunion is on June 9th, which means that I'm going to be 38w6d pregnant! I'm going to be a cow!

Cosmogirl : I'm glad you are starting to feel better. What are you going to school for? Hopefully you'll be getting a nice long break in a few weeks.

StacieLady: I'm glad you are feeling better now.

Smittenk: Congrats and welcome. I don't know how in the world you waited this long.

gymwidow: Hope you had a nice trip!

QOTD : I have 3...frequent trips to the bathroom, sore boobs, and hunger!

While I was doing some of my Christmas shopping today, I went into BRU and looked at cribs, strollers, car seats, etc. I have a few things in mind that I like, but nothing set in stone. It was just fun to look around!

Thankyou GA_GAL! It was definitely difficult!

QOTD: What is your biggest pregnancy symptoms right now?

*Nausea after about 2pm (Dinner basically no longer happens)
*Tiredness (I really don't think I am sleeping half as much as I should be)
*Gas (Embarassing! I burp like a 15 year old boy)
*Headaches (they just started last week)
*General achiness

Sometimes I feel like I am coming down with the flu cuz it has the same symptoms for me.

Oh yeah and I have a major aversion to Indian food...blech...even hearing the word curry makes me want to lose it!

QOTD Biggest symptoms at the moment are tiredness and acne. I have to go to the bathroom a lot, but I always have and I don't know if I'm going more now or not.

Big day yesterday! There was a big event going on yesterday on Grand Ave. (it's a trendy street of shops and so on in St. Paul) and we went with my parents. First my parents showed us their new car - we didn't know they had got one. They tend to agonize over purchases like socks and underwear and then go out and buy big things at the spur of the moment. So that was interesting - mom pointed out all the LATCH features it has...heh. Then we went and looked in the shops and tasted soups (part of the event) in all the restaurants along there, yum! We ate so many samples we were too full to have lunch! At the end mom wanted to go look at the baby shop that's along there. It's a family owned place in a big old house that is an absolute jumble of baby stuff. They couldn't fit one more thing in there if they tried. Anyway, we had seen a crib there last week that we kind of liked, and it was on sale as it had been discontinued. They only had the floor model and one in a box, and for the floor model they only wanted $375 (down from $550) though it was in pretty much perfect condition. They're so crammed in there people can't get to them to damage them! After looking at other cribs online throughout the week I really came to like this one more, so after talking with the salesman/owner who is keeping the one in the box for himself because he likes it so much, we decided to buy it. It feels so early, but it's discontinued and we didn't want someone else to come along and buy it. Anyway, here it is:
http://sarah.thepuddle.com/ourcrib.jpg
Because they want to get it out of there, I have a feeling they're going to deliver it and set it up really soon, so we really have to create a space in our office/future nursery. And since we were there and he was willing to bargain with us we went ahead and ordered a dresser too  He really highly praised Rumble Tuff furniture and they had a really simple line that works okay with the crib. We decided to get a low dresser with 3X2 drawers rather than the tall kind, because I had both as a kid and it was a long time before I could use the top drawers in the tall dresser. And there's more room to put stuff on top of it, and we can put a changing pad on it. It'll take up a bit more space, but we got the juvenile size so it's only 50" wide. It looks like the dresser on the right here, only without the top part:

http://sarah.thepuddle.com/dresser.jpg

It's not going to win any style awards, but it's versatile and well-built. When I got home I checked out Baby Bargains and was pleased to see they rate Rumble Tuff as the best, though it can be hard to find. Score!

My parents paid, which was very nice. We're going to buy the glider, and DH wants it now (we don't have a comfy chair in our office, so if he wants to spend time with me while I'm on my computer he has to sit at his, which isn't that comfy.) I let him pick out which model he wants, so of course he chose one of the most expensive  He's a big guy, so he really needed the extra wide seat, and he likes the high back too. Anyway, it's going to be very expensive, but once we don't need it in the nursery we'll put it in the basement, so it will continue to be used. We didn't buy it yet because they'll price match Babies R Us, and DH thinks he saw the same model there, so we are waiting for him to call us back to confirm. We'll get it in a warm natural wood color (kind of in between the dresser and crib) with this fabric:
http://sarah.thepuddle.com/weave.jpg
It's this glider:
http://sarah.thepuddle.com/glider.jpg

Whew! Long post, but it was a long day. I'm happy we were able to get good deals at a family-owned shop, I really dislike the big-box stores like Babies R Us. Now my appointment better go well on Tuesday....

stevesbabygirl, I like that travel system. Very nice! It makes sense to just get it yourself. We're doing that with the Zooper since it's not really carried in a lot of places. The Baby Bargains book has a ton of info about so many different things, from when to buy and how much to buy and what brands last longer than others, etc. My SIL swore by it, as did a couple other friends. Congrats on your winnings! How fun that your reunion will be towards the end of your pregnancy. You'll get a lot of attention, that's for sure!

MexicoBride, wow to all that snow! I'm sorry you had to miss your appointment, though. Yay for being 4 days closer! Do you want your EDD changed?

Sarah, thanks. My DH makes fun of me sometimes for all the research I do into things, but it's just my nature, I guess. My next big project is choosing cribs. I'm sorry you didn't hear from your dad on your bday. My FIL never calls my DH on his and every year he still hopes he will. I'm glad you got such an awesome gift from your DH. That is so sweet and thoughtful!!! This fall's weather has been crazy! I really hope things settle down finally. I hate the cold, but I hate the ups and downs, too.

LoveBeingAMommy, I haven't been to Tampa in years, but I have a few friends who live there now. Thanks for sharing your opinions on some of our choices. Hearing from people who actually use the products is so much more helpful than just reading about them in articles. The new Baby Bargains mentions some of the double strollers, but I think reading the double strollers thread on here and other online reviews helped to really figure out how they'll work IRL.

magrat, I like that sling! We want to get one or two of those also. Man, at the rate I'm choosing things we'll have a dozen different way of transporting these kids! Great furniture buys! I really like all your choices. The glider looks so comfy.

Cosmogirl, my m/s has started to stop and start. I'll have 2 or 3 great days w/ none at all, and then 2 or 3 days where it gets bad again off and on. Today thankfully is a good day. But yesterday was bleurgh. I am jealous of your upcoming month's vacation! I haven't even gone back to work yet, but I'm already ready for another week off. ;)

almostthere, I'm so sorry to hear you're still feeling icky. I hope the 2nd tri brings an end to that, fast!

lorbo, welcome! I read along with the high risk thread and saw your story in there. I'm so glad you joined us. You've had quite a journey and I hope that this pregnancy is smooth and as worry-free as possible!

L&D Nurse, great report from your appointment!

GA GAL, thanks, I like the red color a lot. I am in love with maternity clothes. The pants are so much comfier! I'm sorry to hear about your headaches. I hope those go away along with the rest of the first trimester not-so-fun symptoms.

Smittenk, welcome! The u/s are the most amazing thing. I love seeing our little guys moving around.

risa, what kind of prenatals are you taking? I was having some issues with constipation and at a friend's recommendation asked my doctor for a prescription for prenatals that contain ingredients to help move things along. They help a lot!!!

QOTD1, I'll be using doctors and midwives. My OB's office has two midwives on staff, so I'll be seeing them along with the docs. For delivery, since I'll likely have a planned C/S I'll be using a doctor for sure!

QOTD2, well, we don't have other kids of our own, but we do have a niece and nephew who we're going to tell in 2 weeks when we see them for Chanukah. My niece is 4 and she understood well when SIL was pregnant with our nephew (she was 2 at the time). Of course, she thought that every woman had a "baby in the belly" then!

QOTD3, we're having the ultra-screen done on Tuesday. We both like to know as much as possible about everything, and we'd rather be fully informed than just worry throughout. If we come back with an elevated risk, we will consider amnio or CVS, but I would rather avoid those tests, so I'm not sure yet what we'd do. Hopefully we won't even have to worry about them! I believe our test is different than the AFP, which I have heard has a high chance of getting a false positive. The ultra-screen combined blood tests with advanced u/s, so the results are more accurate.

QOTD4, hmmmm, my huge belly is a good symptom! LOL. I definitely look pregnant now. I'm kind of relieved, but also am just trying to get used to it. My boobs are huge and mildly tender. The nausea is gone more than it's here, but it's still noticeable. I definitely have that short-term memory thing. Mostly it's that I have a hard time finding the right words in conversation. Oh, yeah, I definitely have that burping thing going on! LOL, smitten, I keep telling DH that I sound like a 12-year-old boy!

We are home! It was a great trip and I really enjoyed myself. I feel so relaxed. I am NOT looking forward to going back to work tomorrow, but oh well, gotta do it I guess. I think soon I'll be counting the weeks till my doctor tells me to stop working!

We told my aunt and uncle and cousins the other night. That was so much fun. My aunt screamed and I had to hold the phone away from my ear. One of my cousins has twins, so he and his wife were really thrilled to hear our news and told us anytime we need anything to feel free to call them. That was nice. The best "telling" was my other grandma, yesterday. She's 96 and hardly hears anything anymore and lately her mind has really been going. I was worried she wouldn't hear us or understand what I was saying, but we caught her at a good time yesterday and she both heard AND understood! I was so happy I almost cried. Her nurse who was with her when we called said she was speechless, but that her eyes were huge and she was smiling. We did hear her say "Oh my" over and over again on the phone. I'm going to visit her with my dad in 2 weeks and I can't wait. I always worry every visit may be the last, and this one will be even more special now. Our twins will be her 9th and 10th great-grandchildren!

Yesterday we heard the babies' heartbeats again! We decided to rent a doppler so that my parents could hear them. So we did that a few days ago and had it delivered to their house so we could use it b/f the end of our visit. And yesterday morning we tried it out. We think we heard both babies b/c the h/b were about 5 inches apart, below my belly button and on either side of it. It was so amazing! Mom and Dad grinned nonstop and DH got all teary again.

Okay, I've been waiting long enough for our houseguest to wake up so I could go do errands, but I can't waste anymore time, so I'm off to get stuff done. I hope everyone's been enjoying their weekend! :)

gymwidow,
Yay on telling more people :D! I never even thought of all the attention I would receive at the reunion; perhaps it's a good thing after all :p.

Is anyone else constantly cramping? I always feel crampy, but there's been no bleeding, so I'm not worried. It's just kind of annoying.

Magrat - Lovely crib. And I really like to dark wood of the glider.

gymwidow - That is so cool that you rented a doppler. I've thought about doing that.

Smittenk - Oh, you're from Vancouver. We went there for a day trip and really enjoyed it. Congrats on getting your dog :)

QOTD - Occassional nausea (mostly in the evenings), though it it starting to get less, big boobs, some headaches, and the biggest one is sciatic pain! I am stretching a lot, and it does help, but sometimes I limp for a while when I wake up in the morning, especially if I end up rolling over and sleeping on that side. It's not too bad if I am active during the day.

Yesterday was my birthday! :D So I am now 25. A friend of mine took me out all afternoon/evening. We went to the Festival of Trees here which is this big benefit auction where they auction off these elaborately decorated trees for ridiculous amounts of money, and all of proceeds go to the children's hospital. We went out to eat and had Cold Stone for desert...oh yum :) We also saw an early showing of the movie The Holiday. Oh my goodness, that is my new favorite movie. I seriously loved it and wanted to watch it again! It's a romantic comedy, with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, and Jude Law. Great movie! I will be getting it the day it comes out on DVD!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I am using the Target brand. Is there a certain type that helps with constipation?

Gymwindow - That was so neat to hear about your grandmother. :) I also think that's a great idea to rent the heart rate doppler, so maybe I'll do that for Christmas so my family can hear. They would love it

Happy Birthday micd!!!

And for the ones getting the gas (aka burps), I'm with you on that.. except mine comes out both ends. My husband told me the other day I am losing my attractiveness (is that a word?) because I keep doing it.

Welcome smittenk!!!

stevesbabygirl I've had a some cramping recently, but I think it was due to dehydration. I'm having a hard time finding fluids that appeal to me. blech.

Which leads me to my QOTD pregnancy symptoms.
1. nausa/occasional vomiting
2. fatigue
3. headaches
4. sore bb's

I've just passed the 14 week mark, so I'm hoping some of these symptoms are going to fade soon!

stevesbabygirl, oh, yeah, everyone loves a pregnant woman. Of course, by then you might be tired of hearing "So when are you due?" and of having people try to touch your belly, but hopefully it will be a lot of fun! I've had mild cramps on and off, but not a lot. At my 9w appointment, the midwife told me it's normal as your uterus stretches and expands to hold the growing baby.

micd, I'm glad we did it. It's tempting to use it all the time, but I haven't used it again since Saturday. DH wants to listen again tonight, though! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It sounds like you had a good day. I've been seeing commercials for that movie and definitely want to see it. I'm not a big Cameron Diaz or Jude Law fan, but I love Kate Winslet and Jack Black always makes me laugh.

risa, the prescription ones contain digestive aids. Mine are PreCare and they cost $23 for a month supply. I think that's a little expensive, so I've been alternating them with my generic Walmart brand. But I definitely notice a change in things since I started on them. The doppler is very cool and so easy to use. I got it from Heartbeats At Home (http://www.heartbeatsathome.com/index.cfm). We just got it for one month, but they said if I wanted to keep it longer, they'd switch me over to a monthly plan to save money. I might keep it one more month so that my grandma and other family can hear the heartbeats when we go back to FL in January for my baby shower.

daphne, 14 weeks, wow!

L&D Nurse, you look great! I looked like around 5 weeks I think. ;) I'm going to have DH take a new belly shot tomorrow morning - the first day of our 2nd tri! :)

First day back at work is going okay. Not too much work, which is very nice. I'm wearing maternity pants here for the first time, but am wearing a regular sweater set with it (and my fleece over that). Tomorrow I'll be out all day for our peri appt and then my reg doc appt (flu shot), and on Wednesday I'm officially announcing it to the office and won't be trying to hide my growing belly anymore!

Here is a link to the vitimin that I got as a sample that was supposed to help with constipation. The important thing about it is that it contains 50mg of docusate sodium. You can buy this as a suppliment in the vitamin section. I have a friend who takes it all the time. It would be easy to add this to your over the counter vitimin. (But of course the disclaimer should be entered here "Discuss this with your doctor") :D

Just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone. I don't have enough time for replies right now. Friday, we had a SNOW DAY! :D I called work and told them even if I shoveled my driveway, there was no way I was getting down my road. There was about 2 feet in it. But we had fun playing in the snow and watching all the cars get stuck on our road. Our road finally got plowed at about 7:00 that night. Then I spent all day Saturday cleaning house. It looks much better now, but man was I tired. Later that night, some friends came over for dinner. Yesterday, we went through some stuff that we got out of storage. We still have a garage full that needs to be gone through. All in all, it was a pretty boring weekend, but nice and relaxing. Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

Oh, girls, I'm in trouble. I did a bad thing today and bought my first diaper bag. I don't think I've mentioned that I have a bit of a handbag fetish. I love 'em. I can ignore shoes, chocolate, you name it, but put me in a handbag store and there's no limit on the number I'd buy.

So, today I got to go to the Kate Spade friends and family sample sale. DH's coworker's SIL works with Kate Spade and I get on the invite list b/c of that. I usually limit myself to one bag, and this time I knew it would be a diaper one. I got so lucky! They hardly had any this time (unlike last time when there were at least a dozen to choose from). I started out with this beautiful pink logo shoulder bag, but it was huge and seemed awfully heavy even when empty, so I found a woman pushing a baby in a stroller and asked her if she thought it was practical. She said, "Oh, honey, do NOT buy that bag." She said as soon as I put 2 things in it, it would be too heavy to schlep around the city, or anywhere. She recommended a website to me (which I promptly forgot, of course) to check for great bags. So, I go to put the big monster bag back, and alas, on the same table, where it had not been 10 minutes before, was this beauty (but in pretty deep pink):

http://i13.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/7b/33/fd62_2.JPG

Someone had just put it down and walked off. So I grabbed it! It's a backpack bag and has lots of compartments, plus the changing pad inside. And it was so cheap! (Well, for a Kate Spade.) This was my one splurge bag. I promised DH that I wouldn't go nuts! He knows I'll have a few (he already bought me one for Chanukah), but I told him only one designer one and the rest would be nice and practical. Unlike the rest of my handbag wardrobe. :p

So, the trouble comes when I go on ebay to find a pic to email my mom and end up spending a half hour browsing the bags on there. Man oh man. I found this Vera Bradley:

http://i9.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/7b/48/e5f9_2.JPG

that is currently only going for $9. If it stays nice and cheap I may get it. And then no more, really! (I hope.)

Okay, go ahead, make fun. ;)

magrat: I love the crib and the other furniture you got. I wouldn't worry too much about it being too early. It was a great deal and you knew you loved it, so why not get it! It's great that your parents were so generous.

micd: Happy belated birthday. I'm glad to hear you liked that movie. I thought it looked cute and wanted to see it.

L&D Nurse: Great start to your baby belly!

gymwidow: I'm glad your first day back to work wasn't so bad. It sounds like you had so much fun spreading the word about your pregnancy. I loved telling my aunts/uncles, cousins, and grandparents. They were all so thrilled to be welcoming another member to our family. I'm jealous you got to go to the Kate Spade sale and love the bag you got. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

Sarah6690: Lucky you for a snow day! Wish we could get one of those here.

LoveBeingAMommy: I'm glad your apt. went well today. Those babies are looking great! Isn't it interesting to see how different their personalities seem to be already?!?

I've been having pretty vivid dreams, but last night I had my first "baby" dream. I went to the hospital and had the baby all by myself (no one even knew I was there). When I came home I told my husband, called my parents, etc. I was looking at the baby and vividly remember breastfeeding. Then the scene changed and I was holding the baby up, only to realize it wasn't a baby at all...it was a 5 year old boy named Jose (who looked just like a kid I have in my class). I kept asking everyone around me if this could really be my child and decided that the hospital must have made some awful mistake and given me the wrong baby to bring home. So weird! My next dream was about me going to the dr. and them telling me that I was no longer pregnant. I was of course very sad and saw myself going back to my fertility clinic to start all of the treatment over again. I was also freaking out because I'd just sent out my Christmas cards with a letter updating everyone that I was pregnant (which I really did send out today). I kept trying to get to the post office to get my cards back before I had to explain to everyone that I was no longer pregnant. It was so bizarre and made me wake up very afraid. I had to keep reminding myself that it was only a dream and that everything was fine. I still can't wait to go to my apt. next Monday and hear the heartbeat though. I'm planning on calling tomorrow just to see if they had any cancellations and if I could possibly get in later this week instead.

stevesbabygirl I keep hearing that spoting is totally normal and nothing to worry about. I was told that if I had bleeding where I was going through 4 pads an hour or it was coupled with bad cramping that I should go in to the clinic. Everyone I have talked to has had spotting so I would say there is nothing to worry about but of course if you are then just give your doctor a quick call.

GA_GAL wierd dreams! I have only had one baby related but I can't remember it. I have mostly just been having really crazy, out there dreams lately. All the hormones I guess :)

gymwidow cute bags!! I have been eyeing the oioi diaper bags and a kate spade one myself :p

stevesbabygirl I think it's fairly normal to get a tiny bit of spotting now and then, if you consider how much stretching and stuff is going on down there. I really wouldn't worry unless it was red and enough to at least soak a panty liner.

lovebeingamommy Great ultrasound shots, especially the one of baby A!

Had my 12 week appointment today and everything is fine! I guess that means I'm pretty much out of the woods! She could only find the heartbeat for a second because it was moving around so much, but enough to know it was there, and I did hear some scratchy noises she said were kicks. She showed me how to feel my uterus, but I still can't really. I'm sure I will soon enough though!

Next appointment is January 2.

DH put in an order through Old Navy so I got a few maternity things and they arrived yesterday. The yoga pants look like they'll be very comfy, but they're definitely a bit loose on me now. I haven't taken any belly shots yet and I think I better soon or I won't have a before pic!

Love the belly shots!

SmittenK, from what I could see on the ultrasound, it looks like Baby A is above and slightly to the left of Baby B.

gymwidow, nice diaper bag. The backpack will come in very handy with two little ones.

stevesbabygirl, ditto to what everyone else has said. It sound like everything is okay.

My DD is telling everyone we're having twins, and she says she's going to play with them and feed them applesauce. She loves to kiss, talk to, snuggle, and tickle the babies. This morning she said, "I love you, babies." It was just precious.

Add me to team yellow. We can't wait to find out what we're having!

LoveBeingaMommy what great u/s pics! Glad the babies are doing so well. How cute is your DD! That's so sweet. DS just tells everyone that I have a baby in my tummy and he is NOT changing diapers.

Risa I agree that some people just take the small things in life for granted. DH was a little confused when I proudly announced that I had finally gone after almost a week!:p Great belly shots!

Gymwidow Those are great diaper bags. I'm going to have to get a new one this time. The one I had before was just too big and bulky and I hated carrying it around.

StevesBabyGirl I love your belly shots too! I definately need to take some before it's too late. I second what everyone else has said about the spotting. Unless it is a bright red and a lot, I wouldn't worry too much.

GAGal Crazy baby dreams! I hate having them, because I can never go back to sleep afterwards.

Tomorrow is DS's 5th birthday. I can't believe he is already 5! So tomorrow night, we are going to Chuckie Cheese with a group of people and their kids for dinner. Not my favorite place in the world, but we let him pick. Does anyone have these where they live? I still haven't bought him anything. I don't know what to get him. Everything that he has said he wants, someone in DH's family has already bought him. Oh well, I'm sure I'll find something. Can't wait for Friday for my next dr appt!
QOTD What tests are you having or not having done and why?

I'm going to go ahead and have the quad screen done. I guess even though I don't want to think about any negative results, I would rather know, then be completely unaware of any problems.

QOTD What tests are you having or not having done and why?

The only non standard test I know that I am having done is the one cystic fibrosis and that will be when I have more bloodwork done at my 16 week appointment. I guess any other tests I get will be the standard ones they give to everyone at my hospital. Apparently they ran all sorts of tests from my first bloodwork and I had no idea...at my first OB appointment she went down the list of all the things that I had tested clear for.

What does the quad screening for? Is it a test you have to ask for?

L&D Nurse
12-05-2006, 12:42 PM
smittenk~ here's some info I found on the quad screen on webmd

What Substances Are Measured During a Quad Marker Screen?

The blood sample is sent to a laboratory and tested for the presence of the following four substances, which are normally found in the baby's blood, brain, spinal fluid and amniotic fluid:

-Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). A protein produced by the baby's liver.
-Unconjugated Estriol (UE). A protein produced in the placenta and in the baby's liver.
-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG). A hormone produced by the placenta.
-Inhibin-A. A hormone produced by the placenta.

The expected amount of these substances normally found in the mother's bloodstream changes each week of pregnancy, so it is important to tell your health care providers how far along you are in your pregnancy. High AFP levels may indicate that the baby has an open neural tube defect. High AFP levels may also indicate that the fetus is older than was thought or that the woman is expecting twins. Lower than normal AFP levels could indicate that a woman is at higher risk for having a baby with Down syndrome.

Levels of hCG and Inhibin-A are higher than normal when a woman has an increased risk of having a baby with Down syndrome. Lower than normal levels of Estriol may also indicate that a woman is at high risk for having a baby with Down syndrome.

The test predicts the likelihood of a certain problem occurring. It does not diagnose the problem. For example, cholesterol screening determines a person's risk for heart disease based on the amount of cholesterol in the blood, but it does not necessarily mean that the person has heart disease. The quad marker screen determines if a woman is at higher or lower risk of carrying a baby with a birth defect. This means that some women with healthy babies will have screening results indicating a possible problem (and will be offered appropriate follow-up testing) while some women whose babies have birth defects will go undetected.

Thanks so much for posting that info L&D Nurse. I think that is the test my friend had last year and they told her that that even if it came back that she had some "bad results" it doesn't mean anything. She ended up having some negative results and had a perfectly healthy baby. Hmmm I'm afraid that it might stress me out. I think I will talk to my OB about it at my next appointment.

Thanks again!

Hey Girls,

Sorry I've been MIA. I had some spotting the last couple weeks and I was scared so I wasn't posting much.

The first time it happened was a couple of weeks ago and it was just a teeny tiny amount but I was still scared. I didn't have any cramps or anything so that made me feel a bit better.

I had it 3 days the week before last and then 3 days last week. On Saturday it was bright red and more than the other days so I was even more scared. Still no cramping though. I went to my doctor's appointment yesterday and he wanted to send me for an ultrasound which I had this morning and thankfully everything was okay with baby!!

I was soooo scared. But he put the gel stuff on my belly and started looking around and then I saw the baby! And then he was measuring the baby I guess and zoomed in at one point and I saw the little heart beating away! So amazing!! The tech called my DH to come into the room after he was done and then we both got to hear the heart beat and we saw the baby moving around. It was so neat!

I measured 12 weeks today so I'm 2 days ahead of schedule which was cool!! Threadmistress - can you change my due date to June 19, 2007 please!

We have 4 pics of our little alien but I don't have a scanner at home so I'm going to see if there's one I can use at work tomorrow.

It all feels so much more real now! I'm so happy to be able to tell all the rest our our friends and family and the people at work!

I'm going to try and keep up with this thread more. It moves so quickly though!!

Oh and I wanted to welcome my friend SmittenK - I'm glad to finally see you here!! :)

K, I have alot of catching up to do. I'm off to read what's been going on in our thread the last couple of weeks!

Sorry for the super long post!

Sarah - I know! I'm with you on that. I'm hoping a different prenatal vitamin will help, but if not I'll just go buy some Colace (Doculsate Sodium) to take.

We had our 13 week exam today and everything went great so now we're off to tell the world that we're PG! :) The baby's heartrate was 158 but we could barely hear it on the doppler. They did an ultrasound and took some pics so here are 2 of them. He's waving at the camera in one of them.

stevesbabygirl: Keep us updated on your spotting. Everything I've heard says it is normal, but I would probably be worried, too.

magrat: Glad you had a great apt. and got to hear your baby's heartbeat. I bought some clothes from Old Navy too and they are awesome. I figure before too long, the bagginess will be gone!

LoveBeingAMommy: How sweet that your DD is so excited and already loving those babies. I can't wait to find out the sex either. Do you know when you'll be able to?

MexicoBride'05: I'm glad to hear that everything is good with you. I'm sure that the spotting was very scary. I would have been very worried, too. However, it's great that you got to hear your baby's heartbeat and see the ultrasound. Very exciting!

risa00: Great pictures! I noticed you said "he" is waving in the picture. Do you have a gut feeling it is a boy?

I wasn't able to get my apt. moved, so I'm just waiting it out until Monday. I'm so anxious to go and know that everything is still going the way it should be.

I don't think I'll get another ultrasound until 20 weeks, which seems forever away. A lot of my friends have gotten 3-D ultrasounds and I was online looking at info on different places. I came across a place that also does "gender determination 2-D ultrasounds" as early as 16 weeks. All of their people are Certified Ultrasound Technologists. I'm so tempted to do it. The cost is only $79...well worth it to me to know boy or girl a month earlier. Here's the website. Let me know what you all think. http://www.babysfirstimages.com/index.htm

Wow, lots of appointments lately! It's so nice to see all the ultrasounds and hear that everyone is doing well. Nice belly shots too! I've taken a few, but am not too brave to post them. We'll see ;)

GA_GAL - Crazy dreams! I had one dream a few days ago that I had a boy and I knew is his name and everything, though I've actual had strong feelings that I'm having a girl, so I guess we'll see.

stevesbabygirl - I've had spotting about 4 times over the course of the last month and a half. It was always brown, very light, with no cramping, then it would just go away after a day. I always worried too. I remember thinking one time "I knew this was too good to be true" (being pg, that is). The last time it happened, I called the OB and they said it is not a cause for concern unless it is red and there is cramping, then I would have needed to go in and get checked. I totally understand your concern. Just keep and eye on it.

MexicoBride'05 - Glad to hear that everything is okay!

LoveBeingAMommy - So sweet how your DD is being with your belly and the babies!

Gymwidow - Great bags!

Still having the sciatic pain from h--l! It's really driving me nuts and so frustrating now. I usually work out quite a bit (jogging), and now I can hardly walk for long periods of time on the treadmill. I have been stretching like crazy and haven't taken anything because I want to avoid it at all costs, but I may have to end up taking a Tylenol as it was on my OB's approved list of meds. I typically like to work out because it makes me feel good and because I like to eat what I want :D. As a matter of fact, I just ate about 11 Hershey Kisses dipped in PB...heavenly!

Last week I told my principal that I am pg and she was so happy she hugged me! I was completely nervous to tell her too. Now it is leaking out at school so I am happy not to keep it a secret from my co-workers anymore. I also told me kids...they were so cute...some of them keep asking me when the baby is coming and if I can bring the baby to school. :)

I have some good news...I am going to have an u/s next week!! This is such a big deal for me as the military typically only does one u/s (for complication free pregnancies), but as I signed up for that gall bladder study, I will get one each trimester (I think I already said this earlier!). Anyway, I am sooo excited! I was not expecting to see my baby until February, and now I will get to next week! I'm really looking forward to also being able to send DH the u/s pic. Along with that appt I have one right before it to meet with the head midwife to see if I qualify to have a midwife as my provider. So my next appt is Dec 12. My Dec 19 appt is cancelled.

Have a great night everybody!

risa00: Great pictures! I noticed you said "he" is waving in the picture. Do you have a gut feeling it is a boy?

Both my DH and I think it's a boy for some reason. Before when we were trying my DH said that if we had twins, he was naming them Chuck and Buck.. he was kidding of course. So now that we have one, we call the baby "Chuck" until we actually come up with a name. :) My mom gets mad because she thinks and wants a girl so then she'll call the baby "Chuckine". We're quite strange.

I am having a real problem. I'm usually the one who does the cooking because I get home earlier than DH, but I haven't cooked in a really long time. DH is worn out, and I'm sick of eating prepared foods and take out. I don't have nausea anymore, but I still am...afraid I think, of a lot of foods. I don't feel like anything ethnic or high fat or very flavorful. I'm feeling really fussy. I've spent over an hour today looking for recipes that are really quick and sound good, and I still haven't found a winner. Now it's 12:30pm and I'm starting to feel really tired and don't know if I'll have the energy to cook anyway! Argh. I'm getting to the point where even dumping a bag of stir fry in a pan sounds like too much work. Anyone else having a problem like this?

Cosmogirl

Magrat same boat. I know I should eat better, more veggies and all, but I don't have the energy to do so, and even though I'm done with MS, some food still nauseate me a lot. REALLY tough. I feel like there is nothing I'd like to eat either KWIM? I don't feel like anything...

Sarah, yay snow day! Last year the only big snow we got was on a Sunday and I was so disappointed that it wasn't a work day. Hopefully this year we'll get a least one. ;)

LoveBeingAMommy, what cuties! We seem to have one calm one and one extremely active one, too.

Stacie, thanks, I can't wait to start using it!

risa, butt, what butt? You look fantastic! Isn't is awesome to be able to tell everyone finally? We were waiting and waiting for yesterday's appointment just to confirm everything was good before we let the world know. That's too cute about the names! We've moved from Abbott & Costello to Laurel & Hardy - anything but Frick & Frack!

stevesbabygirl, you look great!!! I love those pj pants. Some spotting is totally natural. As long as you have no cramping, and it's not heavy bleeding, it's probably nothing to worry about. Of course, that's not going to stop you from worrying! You can always call your doc and talk about it - my doc told me he'd be upset if I ever DIDN'T call when something like that happened.

GA GAL, it has been so much fun sharing the news! We did a lot more telling yesterday and today and it's been a blast. The Kate Spade sale is so much fun. If I had the $$$, I could really go nuts there. What crazy dreams! I'm sorry you had that sad one. I hate waking up from those. I'm always afraid to go back to sleep because I'm afraid I'll go right back into the dream. Very cool about the 3D u/s. I've seen pics from those and they are AMAZING!

Smittenk, oh, I love the oioi bags!

magrat, yay for a great appt! I'm glad you could hear the h/b at least for a second. And great on the new clothes. You'll be very happy to have them! I definitely have that problem with cooking. My DH can make frozen meatballs and that's about it. He was eating a lot of those in the last couple of months while I was eating a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches, b/c that's all I could handle making. I'm trying to cook a couple of nights a week now, and am just making big batches of whatever so that it lasts for a few days. I do a lot of easy stuff like tacos and salads and grill up a half dozen chicken breasts at a time. Last night I made a lasagna that was dinner and will be lunches for the rest of the week. Have you checked out websites or cookbooks that offer "make it in minutes" kind of recipes? Or ones with meals that require 5 ingredients or less?

MexicoBride, I'm so sorry you went through that! I know how scary it is. I'm glad everything turned out okay and that the baby is doing well! I can't wait to see the pics.

micd, cool dreams! My DH had one that we had a boy and a girl, which is right along with what we've been thinking. I hope the pain lets up on you soon. Do you get physical therapy or massage? That might help a lot. I've been having lower back pain and got a pillow for my chair at work that seems to help a little, and plan to ask my massage therapist to work on that area tomorrow. That's awesome that your principal was so excited for you. It's so great to get reactions like that! And that's EXCELLENT news about the extra u/s!

Cosmogirl, I hope your finals are going well! Only days till your appt - hopefully they'll go by really fast.

QOTD, we had the ultra-screen (http://www.ntdlabs.com/patient_usf.php) done. It tests for the risk for Down's Syndrome and Trisomy 18. We both are the kind of people who like to have as much info as possible, and I know that I would worry about this throughout pregnancy if we didn't do the test. We are taking things one step at a time and haven't really discussed what we'll do if the results come back with a high risk. The next step would be to decide if we want amnio or CVS, both of which I'd like to avoid. But we'll see - we get the results back on Friday.

We're also doing an extra DNA test for Fragile X. I have an autistic cousin and when the genetic counselor we met with yesterday heard that, she offered us this additional test to see if I'm a carrier of the gene, and if so, what level of abnormality it contains. Fragile X is transmitted through the mother, but men can be carriers of it. My autistic cousin is my father's sister's daughter, so it's on my dad's side, but since it was his sister's child (and not a brother's), she said that it's possible my dad is a carrier and passed it on to me, and that I could give it to a daughter. We'll get those results back in about 2 weeks.

For some reason, I'm just not worried about any of this. I just have a feeling that everything is going to be okay with the babies!

As part of our IVF workup, we had genetic tests done for cystic fibrosis, Tay Sach's, and a few other diseases. DH is a carrier of one of the Jewish-related diseases, but I came up clean for everything so we have no worries for our kids for these things.

Okay, ladies, confession time.

I've been posting anonymously using the "gymwidow" username since we started our TTC journey a year and a half ago. We weren't telling most people IRL (only a few close friends and family) what we were going through, and I decided to keep it quiet from my CC and LJ friends. But now that we're finally pregnant and finally in the 2nd trimester, we're telling everyone. So I'm giving up my anonymous screen name and going to be using my *real* one from now on. I hope you guys don't mind that I kept my real info quiet till now.

So, without further ado..... Gymwidow is really........

Jenean Does it count if you have a higher post count under your anon username? :) Still, thanks for outing yourself! I have looked up really easy recipes, but despite being very well rested after having the day off yesterday, by this afternoon I started feeling really tired and getting a tired headache, so all my big (well, not so big) plans went out the window. I've been laying down for a nap when I get home and sleeping until DH is done making dinner. I'm going to owe him big time when I'm a SAHM!

We got a little more snow today, but unfortunately living in MN means there's almost no such thing as a snow day for work! People show up an hour or two late sometimes, but I've never heard of people missing entirely. I remember one memorable day driving home at 10pm in my tiny car (Scion xA), gunning it through 2 foot high snow banks in intersections where the plows only did the cross street and not the one I was on. Took a while, but I got there :) The most amazing thing about that night was when I drove past the movie theater, the parking lot was packed!

jody, aw, thank you so much! Obviously you know I've been following along with your journey and I cannot wait to see you in a mommies' thread!!!

magrat, LOL! I'm sure I'll catch up to myself soon. You guys will come out even at some point. Your DH sounds like he's been wonderful so far and I'm sure he doesn't mind this now. Yikes to that drive! I'm in NY and it seems like every year people forget how to drive in bad weather. Once I had to drive out of the city in a storm and it was miserable. Our trains usually run pretty well even in bad weather, but when we get monster storms like we've had a few of in the past few years (like 2' of snow), then people are usually advised to stay home if they live outside the city.

My best friend is here visiting this week, so we're off to Tavern on the Green for a dinner surrounded by tourists. ;) I'll post an update tomorrow about our ultra-screen yesterday and our little cuties! Have a great night everyone! :)

Please explain. I do hope it starts to feel better for you. Yea for your principal being so excited. We haven't told our students yet, but plan on doing so very soon since our bellies are starting to show. Good luck with your u/s. That is so exciting!

wonderousglance: You are very welcome. I emailed to ask when they might be opening their Florida offices is this is the response I got...Unfortunately, we are still working out the details on the dates for the Florida offices and do not have any idea which city is opening first and the opening dates just yet. Once we do know we will update the site for those that are waiting. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Cosmogirl: hang in there...Christmas break is almost here. When do you finish?

magrat and Cosmogirl: I'm right there with you girls on needing to eat better. It's just so hard to make myself want to cook a balanced meal and the veggies still "scare" me a bit. I'm slowly working myself back into it.

just wanted to post my complaint. I don't think I'll be getting the quad screen done now. I've been calling back and forth between the drs office and the insurance company. The insurance wants a procedure code to tell me if it's covered and the drs office keeps giving me numbers that they say aren't the right ones. I'm just really getting annoyed. Don't they understand that it's best to not piss off a pregnant woman?

Okay, now that I'm done ranting... we went to Chuckee Cheese for DS's b-day last night. I don't know who had more fun, him or DH. I had to drag them both out of there. Tomorrow is my next appointment. I'm very excited, it feels like forever ago that I was there last.

GA Gal Thanks for posting that link. There is one not too far from me. I would think about going if we can't find out the sex at our next u/s. With DS, they couldn't tell the first time, but they snuck me in at our next visit for a quick peek.

micd I'm not having any sciatic pain, but my back is killing me everyday. The only position that helps any is lying down. That's great about getting another u/s!

Cosmogirl hope the rest of the semester goes well for you.

magrat I feel exactly the same way about cooking. That's why on the weekends, I try to make a nice breakfast. And then I find something to make for dinner that I can put in the crock pot. So, I get it all done in the morning when I have the energy to do it. As for cleaning up the dinner mess, that a whole other story!

Jenean glad you came clean! Hope you had a good time with your friend!

L&D Nurse I wish I could have a lazy day. I'm jealous.

Sunday is DH's Christmas party for work and I have nothing to wear. He thinks that I should wear a dress, but I definately don't have anything that fits. I don't know if I should try to find a maternity one that will be too big, or a regular one in a bigger size that I will probably never wear again. What would you guys get?

Sarah~ I am wearing some nice black pants (that I got at Motherhood Maternity this week) and a red silk shirt to DH's Christmas party tonight. Obviously I can't tuck the shirt in like I normally would, but I still think it will look OK. Could you do something like that? BTW, sorry about the Quad Screen difficulties...

Sarah - I know a girl, with great style by the way, who to her shower at more than 20 weeks wore a great knit dress that she bought in the "normal" section of the department store. I know shopping isn't any fun if you are really tired. But you really might be able to find a wrap-dress, or a stretchy knit dress, that would look nice now and later.

RobynScott, thanks, and right back at ya! Is the Jewish thread even around anymore? I don't think I've been by there in a while.

Cosmogirl, lol, sorry 'bout that! But thanks for the re-welcome. :)

GA GAL, thanks. It feels weird, but good at the same time. Part of me is a little afraid that now that we're telling everyone, something will happen, like I'm jinxing myself or something. But at the same time, I feel good and the babies seem to be doing great, so sharing our happiness is natural.

L&D Nurse, oh, yes!!! Thanks. :) I'm glad things seem to be getting a bit better for you. Have fun at the party tonight!

Sarah, what a PITA! Can't the doctor's office call the insurance company themselves and straighten it out? I feel your frustrations. I hope it gets worked out! I'm glad you had fun at DS's bday. Did both boys come home covered in goo? ;) I second the vote for a nice pair of pants and a pretty top. That's what I'll be wearing to our holiday GTGs. Although a friend did just give me a pretty black knit type dress that I have to try. I don't know what the material is, but it's kind of like a jersey dress maybe? I'll look tonight and see.

So, now that y'all know who I am, I wanted to share just a little more about me. DH is Seth and we've been married for almost 3 1/2 years. We live in NY. We're both lawyers, although he's smart about it and doesn't practice. He's actually taking a new job soon in a related field, but it's much more interesting and exciting than what I do, which is real estate. Blah. Hmmmm, that's really the basics. Not very exciting, but that's us! :)

So, our ultra-screen. It was neat. First we met with a genetic counselor who talked us through the test and what the results would mean. She went over our family histories pretty well and was very interested in my maternal grandmother's history of m/c (2 m/c and a stillborn, and my mom was conceived with the assistance of that awful drug that caused all kinds of birth defects - thaly-something). She also took note of my first cousin's autism, and from that suggested that we go for an additional test for Fragile X (which I posted about earlier). We did go for that, and will find out our results in about 2 weeks. The ultra-screen results will be called in to me tomorrow.

After that, we had a looooong u/s session. Seriously, over an hour. First the tech took measurements of my uterus and ovaries. Then she turned to the babies. Baby B a/k/a Hardy, was pretty cooperative. She had to get measurements of its nasal bone and the fluid in the folds behind the neck. The nasal bone was easy, but the behind-the-neck took about 15 minutes. Hardy was settled on its back along its sac wall and didn't want to move upward so she could see behind its head. She kept tapping on my belly to get it to jump. It finally did, and the measurement looked good. Then she turned to Baby A a/k/a Laurel. Laurel is a difficult one! It took over a half hour to get the right measurements for this one! It was turning every which way, somersaulting and swimming around. It even stuck it's little tongue out at us!!! I had to turn on my right side, then my left side, then back to flat. The tech was thumping on my belly to get it to try and move. Oy. Finally another tech came in and after another 10 min. or so, she was able to get the measurements. The great thing about all that is that we got to see the babies for quite some time. They had a t.v. set up in front of the table, so Seth and I literally could just watch them on t.v.! I told him it was the best t.v. show I'd ever seen. :D We have some great pics, but they didn't scan well, so I'm going to have to figure out a better way to get them online, and then I'll share.

After the u/s, I met with the perinatologist and she took my blood. She was really friendly and I liked her a lot. She didn't mind that I asked her a bunch of questions - mostly about bedrest and nutrition. I just wanted to see if what she said meshed with what my OB said, and it did. So all is good.

Speaking of nutrition, I got on the scale that morning. I had gained a good 10 lbs by 9 weeks, but in the last month I only gained another 2! I was so happy with that, because I'm taking it to mean that all the food I've been shoveling in my mouth is going mostly to the babies and not my hips! I've gained 12 lbs in 13 weeks, and now my goal is going to be on eating right and gaining a little more. From what I've read on twins, the books and websites, the average recommendation is 24 lbs in 24 weeks - something about that number seems to equal healthier babies if they're born early - so that's another 12 lbs in the next 9 weeks! I have no idea how I'm going to do that. My appetite is decreasing and now that the nausea isn't as bad, I'm not eating nearly as often. But I'm sure I'll figure something out! I think my first step in that direction will be to stop buying light ice cream and start getting the real stuff! :)

Okay, I'm off. TGTF!!!

p.s. my best friend and I had fun at Tavern last night. I hadn't been there in years. Tonight we're going to see the tree at Rock Center, and then for dinner at Serendipity 3, home of the famous frozen hot chocolate = yum!

had a quickie doctor's appt. not too bad in the weight gain department-hopefully that's par for our course:D . some debate around the quad screen vs the amnio-i don't have issues with having the blood test done, but the doc wants me to check with the peri. doc about the genetic screening...since the amnio is a pretty certain thing-kind of overkill i think. all of my bleeding issues have ceased and i'm okayed to go back to normal activity:rolleyes: that means DH will be pleased...and that's all i'm gonna say about that. the doctor had the hardest time finding the heartbeat-i failed to mention that i u/s myself at work on tuesday:o ...but i still have a fear of something happening. so she said the baby was all over and being difficult-my comment was how would that be different than how DS and DD are??? i have my next peri appt next week...just an u/s and i guess the amnio deal will be set up at that point.

L&D Nurse: Let me know your DH's reaction to the u/s place. Mine was not really too excited, which made me a little disappointed. He said that he doesn't feel like waiting 4-5 more weeks to find out would be a big deal, but if I really needed/wanted to do it, than we could. I read on one of the pregnancy threads about what week other girls found out. I just don't want to get in there and them say, "well we think it is a boy, but it might be a girl" or vice versa. I just wanted to know a 100% for sure!

Sarah6690: Like Stacielady said, I think nice wrap dress would be good to wear. That way, it can grow with you and also you can wear it after your pregnancy too. The other option would be some nice pants and a festive looking top (something sparkly and holiday-ish).

Jenean: I feel the same way about telling people. I think that's why I had that crazy dream about my having a miscarriage and having just sent out Christmas letters to everyone telling them I was pregnant. I've been a little nervous/anxious this week for some reason. I haven't been to the dr. since Nov. 9th, and can't wait for my apt. on Monday. I'm switching dr's and hoping I might get an ultrasound, but I doubt it. I called all week long to see if they had any cancellations and if I could get in earlier than Monday, but no luck. I'm just trying to relax and feel like everything is fine. That is awesome that you got to see your babies for so long during the u/s. I'm very jealous. How'd you come up with your baby A and B names?

lorbo: I'm glad your apt. went well. How lucky that you got to do/have an u/s this week. Do you work at a dr. office? I hope you get your testing all figured out and feel good about your decisions moving forward.

Just a quick stop for me, (taking a break from studying a minute...)for a bit of good news

I decided this morning to go to my clinic (I'm a vet) and borrow the Doppler we have there It isn't the same as the baby doppler, but close enough. I brought it home and tried to find a HB...and I did:D :D It was loud and clear, way faster then my own pulse. I was just too happy to finally hear this.
I must have squeezed him a little in there though, because once I removed the doppler I actually felt him move  I felt it, and though ' that is NOT possible, I'm WAY to early" and thought that it must have been a gaz bubble that had passed or something and then he did it again, and I'm SO sure of that feeling. I remember it SO well, it couldn't be anything else then that. DH reminded me that I had felt DS in a similar situation once at 13 weeks (I had squeezed him by sitting down in a weird position and SWORE I felt him move, but at that point, I couldn't be sure since it was my first child...) but anyhow, it felt good just to hear the HB.
I'm kinda happy tonight to know that Pea is just fine!
Thanks for letting me share!

Back to my studies...only 2 weeks to go before X-mas vacay!!!:D I NEED those!

So, we had our first doctors appointment today--FINALLY! It was not that super exciting. I met the nurse practitioner whom I had not met before, we went through some history and all the usual stuff, asked questions. She tried to hear the baby's heartbeat with the doppler, but no such luck. She said beforehand that they may not be able to hear it because of my fibroids, so I get to go for an u/s next week. This is both exciting and nervewracking because they obviously are checking for viability, I feel better then if I'd had any symptoms of m/c, but it is still a bit unnerving.

Some updates:

Next appointment, December 14th U/S
January 8th, Quad 4 screening
Updated due date, June 30th

Welcome Jenean, so glad you outed yourself :D!

We got our Christmas tree tonight, yay :D! I haven't decorated it yet; I'll leave that tomorrow. I'll be surprised if the poor thing even makes it to Christmas because DH has the thermostat cranked up to 75.

Speaking of DH and cranked, that boy is in a foul mood tonight! He wanted nothing to do with the tree, and right now, he's outside setting up the Christmas lights on the house. A few minutes ago, he came inside and started yelling at me to get out there and help him. Um, yeah, because you coming in and screaming is really going to make me want to help. He dropped a bulb in our planter and needed me to get the flashlight so he could find it. And somehow, it's my fault because according to him, I would never let him hear the end of it if he didn't get the lights up tonight. I never even asked him to do it tonight, so it's his own fault!

lorbo, glad the appointment went okay, but sorry little one was being evasive. I'm glad you could do an u/s on yourself and check things out, and that there are no more bleeding issues!

GA GAL, I wanted to call them something more creative than Baby A and Baby B. DH kept insisting on Frick & Frack, but that just didn't fly with me! We had Abbott & Costello set for a while, but last week DH started calling them Laurel & Hardy, and if that gets him off of the Frick & Frack idea, I'm all for it! I hope you get that u/s on Monday!!!

Cosmogirl, that is awesome!!!! I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to feel something inside. Last night I dopplered myself, too, because I just like that reassurance of hearing the h/b. I could only find one, but that made me feel good enough. Hurry up vacation! :D

elissa, yay for finally getting to see the doc! I'm sorry the h/b wasn't detectable, but am glad that you have an u/s coming up fast so you can see the little one and know that s/he is growing and doing well!

stevesbabygirl, thanks. :) Yay for a Christmas tree! I love them so much and still, at the age of 30, am disappointed we never get one. I need to get some Chanukah decorations up at my house so I can feel a bit more festive. Sorry that DH had a bout of PMS last night! I hope he gets over that fast!!

Today is the first day I have felt totally nausea-free = yay! Man, I hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying that! :p

Last night my friend pulled out the pregnant card for us at dinner. There was a wait and we waited and then went back up to check in as we had been instructed and the host said it'd be a few more minutes, and my friend said "I have a pregnant lady here, can she at least sit down somewhere?" and he seated us right away! We had walked soooo far to get there and my back was killing me, so I didn't even feel guilty about it. I was just glad to be in a chair! :)

and my mom was conceived with the assistance of that awful drug that caused all kinds of birth defects - thaly-something

jenean If you mean thalidomide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalydomide), that was a morning sickness drug, not a fertility drug. Truly nasty though, lots of babies born without arms and legs (they still had hands and feet).

My parents told my grandma (dad's mom) I'm pregnant. They told her before I told them that my appointment went okay like I asked  My mom said they already had plans to go out to lunch with her and since they needed to tell her in person, and they don't want to have to go over there again until Christmas, they decided to tell her then. She was happy, but then went on to talk about herself more. It's her first great-grandchild. My parents and I aren't very fond of my dad's family. My grandma told them she knew she was pregnant with my uncle Dale when my dad was 6 weeks old, but I did the math and unless he was in there 10 months that's not possible (though it would explain a lot...:D ) My dad was born Jan. 21, 1950 and my uncle was born on Christmas Eve, 1950. Polish twins in this case. Then she went on to have 7 more. She told us once she had 5 kids before she knew what she was doing wrong, though it didn't seem to help all that much :) Anyway, I am dreading going over there for Christmas, and I really hope none of my aunts and uncles are there because I really could do without them judging me (they will have something critical to say I'm sure - at my graduation party when I graduated a semester early from a prestigious private college, my uncle asked why I didn't make the honors list  When I told another uncle I was getting married to DH who is from England, my uncle said that all English people are Communists). I hoped by telling Grandma now rather than waiting until Christmas would mean it would be old news by then.

I was going to tell my boss that I'm pregnant at my one-on-one we were supposed to have the other day. It's been rescheduled twice, and it was going to be this morning, but she just came in with her baby Megan to pick up her laptop because Megan is sick (runny diaper) and she needs to work from home today. So now we have to reschedule again!

Last night I woke up at 3:30am and was *starving*. Hunger pains pregnant kind of starving. After a while I had to get up and eat something because I couldn't sleep. So weird. Still no weight gain and can't feel my uterus. I can't wait, that sounds like a better sign than exhaustion and starvation.

magrat, yeah, that's the one I was thinking of, but I must've been wrong then. Oh, well, whatever she took worked and my mom turned out great, so no worried I guess! Oy to your family. Stuff like that drives me nuts! I'm glad you didn't have to tell your grandma and hear all that, and hopefully by the time Christmas rolls around no one will say anything else. I hope you get your meeting with your boss soon!

Cosmogirl, yeah, we rented a doppler while we were in FL so my parents could hear the babies. We were able to find them both last weekend, but last night (only my 2nd time using it) I could only find the one. I know that's not unusual, though, so I didn't worry.

I just wanted to come back and post our ultra-screen results. Our risk for Down's Syndrome and Trisomy 18 is 1 in over 10,000!!!!!! :D The counselor said that's the best possible result we could have hoped for, and by far the best results of anyone she's calling today. I was so happy and Seth is so relieved. Somehow I just knew inside that everything would be okay, but still it's so good to hear. Now we just wait for the Fragile X results, but again, I'm just not feeling worried!

Okay, back to stuffing my face again. At least it's with a salad! ;)

MexicoBride'05: Great u/s pics!

Jenean: I'm glad your test results came back so good. That must have been wonderful, reassuring news. Way to go with pulling the pregnancy card at dinner. We did it at the airport about a month ago to get my seat changed and it worked!

magrat: Hopefully your Christmas visit won't be too bad after the news of your pregnancy has been able to sink in. I hope your meeting with your boss will be resceduled soon. I'm sure you are anxious to tell her.

elissa: I'm glad your apt. went well. I wish you could have heard the heartbeat, but at least you get an u/s! That's exciting. Let us know how it goes.

Cosmogirl: Lucky you for getting to use the doppler to hear your baby's heartbeat. I can't believe you felt it move!!! That's crazy, but so exciting. I think that even if I did feel my baby, I wouldn't even know what it would feel like.

stevesbabygirl: Sorry your dh was in such a bad mood with the Christmas decorations. He should have been in a Christmas mood, but maybe this weekend will get his spirits back.

I'm very excited to be at 13 weeks today! We told our 1st graders yesterday that both their teachers were pregnant and they were so cute. They had all sorts of stories and questions, but were very happy. We plan to use that in our "bag of tricks." If they are too loud, or won't stop talking, we'll tell them that the babies are trying to sleep and they will wake them up if they aren't quiet.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Names! Have you thought about them? Have you been crazy enough to share your ideas with friends and family members?

We made that mistake. We told of our top boy's name, and DH's mom hates it, so now all of a sudden, DH wants to rethink the name. It makes me so mad! Her opinion shouldn't matter in the least! I don't give a rat's butt if he doesn't like it; it's not her kid to name! She has since suggested another name that I've liked for a while, and DH is warming up to it. My fear is that if we go with that name, she'll take the credit for it and say that it was her idea. And I sooooooooo do not want to deal with that.

GA GAL, thanks, it was so good to hear that! One less thing to worry about, although I'm sure I'll still find things to worry about! Congrats on reaching 13w! That's so sweet about your kids, and good thinking about adding it to your bag of tricks!

stevesbabygirl, yay indeed!

Smittenk, lol! My mom is so frustrated that we're not finding out the babies' sex - she wants me to tell my doctor it's okay for him to tell her even if he doesn't tell us!

QOTD, yup! We had one name picked out years and years ago, before we even got engaged! Right now we have 2 girls' names and 1 boy's name chosen. We're Jewish, so we name after the dead, so our names are all picked based on that (it kind of helps to narrow down our options!). If we have 2 girls, they'll be Lily Isobel (after my grandfathers Louis and Irving) and Madalyn Emma (after Seth's grandpa Murray and grandma Emma), but if we have one 1 girl, she'll be Lily Emma (one name after each side of the family). The boy's name will be Simon Alex (after my great-grandmother Sara and Seth's grandmother Adele). For a second boy's name I like Max or Leo, but Seth isn't a fan. We're working on coming up with something! We've told our families and gotten some comments on them, but we've told them all to basically keep their comments to themselves and since then it's been fine.

Today I went shopping at Motherhood again for tops for work. I had bought about 3 but now that I'm wearing all maternity clothes, I definitely needed more! They really do have great sales and I was able to get 4 tops and a sweater! Actually, MIL bought me the sweater and 2 tops and I just bought the other two. I asked her to come by on her break from work to help me narrow down my choices, and she picked up half my stuff and said she was buying! No argument here! Anyway, these are the tops:

And now I think I've got enough to last me through this stage. Hopefully I won't need to shop again till my belly gets much bigger!

A long time ago someone mentioned that their reunion is at the beginning of June, and I always forgot to mention that I got a thing about my 5 year college reunion which is also at the beginning of June! It's like the 9th or something, so very close. I hope to be able to go because it's in town here, but you never know. It'll be kind of fun to show up really really pregnant :)

Yesterday I was finally able to feel my uterus while lying in bed. It's easiest to feel it from the side because at the top I have more belly fat. I'm starting to think my clothes are getting a little tight too, but just a little. It just feels more comfortable to unbutton my jeans sometimes, or to wear the very loose maternity yoga pants.

jenean I like all your shirts!

QOTD We're having a really tough time with names. DH is extremely picky. Until last night I was only able to get one girl name he likes out of him. Not to say I'm not picky, but I'm willing to suggest a lot more ideas just to see if they could maybe work. And I worry too much what other people will think of our choices, especially our families. No way am I going to tell them our choices before the baby is here though! I would really like to decide soon so I can think of the baby as ________ or _______, I think it would help with bonding. Anyway, we both like Miles, I like Walter (kind of, one of those names I worry about what people would think), DH likes Alexander. We both like Eleanor and Alice, DH likes Elizabeth, I like Evelyn and Jane. We both like Olivia but think it's probably too popular. I'm a Sarah and I was always Sarah K. and I hated it. Middle names...DH really wants Derek because it was his dad's name and he passed away a year ago. But I really really hate the name, even if I loved the person, and it also goes badly with our last name (Kitt). I would like to use James as it was my grandfather's name and we were very close, and I like the name. Unfortunately, *everyone* in my family seems to be named James, so we can't use it as a first name. I would like to use Dorothea as a middle name for a girl after my aunt who never had a family of her own and always saw me as a daughter. Whew. Anyway, I have a feeling this is going to take a very long time, we both feel an enormous sense of responsibility about it. I wish we could ask our families for advice and then wipe their memories of the conversation :)

QOTD: I've been keeping a running list of boys and girls names that I like since I was in high school. More recently (in the last two years) I've had a few names that have just stuck. I love the idea of using family names (I was named after family members) and would love to do a double name for a girl (a total southern thing...I have a double name), but DH doesn't like that idea. The names I am 100% on and DH is probably 95% on are Harper William for a boy (Harper b/c we like it and William after my grandfather who passed away a few years ago) and Handley Isabelle for a girl (Handley after my great-grandmother and Isabelle after DH's great-grandmother). We've told both of our moms, but no one else yet. I'll definitely tell everyone after we find out the sex b/c I want to get monogrammed gifts!

I really like the names you have picked out Jenean and Magrat. I understand people not wanting to share until the baby is born, but I think if you just tell everyone up front that your mind is made up and to please keep their opinions to themselves, it won't be a problem.

One more day until my apt. at my new dr. office. I CAN'T wait!!! I just want to hear that heartbeat going strong. :-)

QOTDWe have already done this exercice before for DS, so we basically are getting out our old list.
Boy:
Jeremy or Alexander (or maybe jut Jeremy Alexender...)
Jeremy was supposed to be DS's name, but he didn't look like a Jeremy :p

Girl:
Mathilde (that is our first choice, but my sister just got her big us and she is having a girl, so I'm thinking we might lose this one...so the runner up are for now:)
Naomi
Nelly
Mia

That is what we have for now. We have to work more on the girl's name, as we are not as sure. Boy's are pretty clear to us.

Off to take a belly pic. They are now in order as I'm FINALLY entering second tri lol :D

QOTD: We've decided to go with a presidential theme for the first names and a family name for the middle one. My DD's name is Reagan Elaine. Until we find out the sexes, we have one boy and one girl name picked out.
Boy: Harrison Paul
Girl: McKinley Claire

QOTD: At the rate we're going, the baby will be born and it won't be until they turn a year old that they'll have a name. My husband and I can't agree on ANYTHING! He keeps pulling this "you name the girl and I'll name the boy" but when I hear the boy's names I just have to say no we'll both agree on them. For the girl's name I really want a name that has Rose as the middle name as that's my grandma's name and she just recently passed away. So I'm thinking something like Ryla Rose, Raina Rose, Rhea Rose, Kasha Rose, Kailyn Rose, Katelynn Rose. Or Ava Lynn since my MIL's middle name is Lynn and I really like Ava. As for boys... The only thing my DH and I remotely agree on right now is either Ian or Christian but neither one we're 100% excited about. Guess we'll just have to keep arguing... I mean discussing. :)

risa00: I love the middle name of Rose. And it is so special since it is your Grandmother's name. I like all of your choices, but especially like Ryla Rose and Kailyn Rose. My DH and I were disagreeing for a while, but he came around, so keep your stance!

LoveBeingAMommy: I really like your names. We'd like to use Harrison for a second boy.

Cosmogirl: Is Mathilde a family name? I was just curious why your sister would "take" it from you unless it is a family name. In my family, there are a lot of the same names used, but mostly as middle names. If it is a special name to you and she uses it as a first name, perhaps it could be a middle name?

magrat: How do you feel your uterus? I'm not even sure what to feel for?

QOTD - Ha! With my husband's laidback personality, I don't know if I'll ever be able to have a serious name conversation with him. I brought it up once, and he told me if it is a boy, he would like to name him Rambo...a girl...Rambina  Nice sense of humor, huh?! :) I have a list of a few names, but I think I want to keep our name secret until baby is here...that is, if we ever end up deciding beforehand!

I did the workout today...it was fairly easy, but felt really good, and was so relaxing, AND, I realized later that I have had no sciatic pain all evening since I did it!! So cool! This is the first time I haven't had pain in several weeks. I only wish that there was more than one workout on it.

GA GAL,
If you press right above your pubic bone, you should be able to feel a fairly hard bump. That's your uterus!

I love everyone's names, and LoveBeingaMommy, I love your presidential themes! McKinley is such a cute name, and I've always liked Harrison!

Right now, here are the contenders:

Girl
Quinn Marie - major front runner, 99.9%
Jordan

Boy
Nathan - this is the name that DH's mom suggested
Ian
Owen - this is the one that DH's mom hates

The only problem is that DH's name is Steven, and wants to use his name as our boy's middle name, but with the names we like, that obviously wouldn't work.

micd Where did you find that Prenatal Yoga DVD? I'm looking for something like that. I can totally identify with you on DH not being serious about names. Every once in a while if he's in the right mood, he'll have a serious discussion with me, but he usually just jokes about really goofy names, too.

QOTD For a girl, my favorite is Nora. I have no idea what DH's favorite is (see above) but we have about 10 potential girls' first names on The List. For a boy, I think we're down to Evan or Owen.

Hi everyone! So Friday, I had typed this big long post with SO's and everything and when I went to post it, it vanished. I didn't have time to redo it before I went to the dr, and then I didn't have the internet all weekend, so I feel really far behind. Not much time now, so quick recap on dr's visit. My dr wasn't there, she was at the hospital doing deliveries all day so I saw another midwife. I was pretty disapointed because I was hoping to be able to find out more about having a VBAC. But I also found out that they still haven't gotten my hospital records to see how many layers of stitches I got during my c-section. Anyway, we heard the hb, and it was in the 160's. So midwife was guessing girl! And I was told to start pigging out. I only gained 2/10 of a lb! Don't know how that is possible since it's not like I haven't been eating. Plus she recommed I start going to the chiropractor again. I'm already having a lot of back pain. And it's just going to get worse. Anyway, I will try to get back later to do SO's.

my next appt is Jan 5

In my family, there are a lot of the same names used, but mostly as middle names. If it is a special name to you and she uses it as a first name, perhaps it could be a middle name?

No, not a family name. The thing is her initials are MD and so her boyfriend. So they are wanting to get a name that stats with an M so they all have the same initials. She liked Mary, but there is one in her boyfriend's family, thus her seriously thinking about using Mathilde. We totally might use it as a middle name, but we'll see what they do about it. I'm hoping for either a boy, or that they decide on something else...:p

So I'm just back from my appointment. Everything sounds good except from the vaginitis I'm having. It is So itchy, there is just no end to it. I have a prescription, cannot wait for this to leave me alone. The doc was like, owwww that must NOT be comfy. :p Got it right doc, NOT comfy. We talked about my previous pregnancy and labor (I love my doc, we have such a good relatioship!) and he remembered that labor went pretty fast for me. He checked my chart and was like OMG, yeah, now I remember, 5 hours and 50 minutes total! So he kinda told me that once the time comes, to rush at the hospital at the first contraction, because this baby should be ejected quite fast :p
Hear the heatbeat again, and I'm mesuring right on track at 12 w :D

QOTD: We've decided to go with a presidential theme for the first names and a family name for the middle one. My DD's name is Reagan Elaine. Until we find out the sexes, we have one boy and one girl name picked out.

So do you pronounce Reagan's name like the president? I always assumed you pronounced it reegan like in King Lear.

magrat: How do you feel your uterus? I'm not even sure what to feel for?

Empty your bladder, lie down, and relax as much as possible. Feel midway between your hip bone and the middle of your stomach, right above your pubic bone. You will eventually be able to feel a ridge where it suddenly becomes hard - the hard thing is your uterus. Some people find it easier to feel for the top of the uterus, but I found it feeling for the side.

Another unproductive weekend ::sigh:: We were going to go get a tree Sunday, but I ended up getting a horrible headache and couldn't. I don't normally get headaches, so I didn't even have any Tylenol. Eventually DH went out and got me some, but I think it was more going to bed that cured it. I wonder if it's because I didn't nap. I can't believe there are only two weeks until Christmas. I am so not ready.

GA_GAL I forgot something else I was going to point out. I really like the name Harper, but if you check the name explorer at www.babynamewizard.com you can see that at the turn of the century it was in the top 1000 as a boys' name, but in the past few years it has come into the top 1000 again as a girls' name (probably because of Harper Lee). It's just something to consider :)

micd: At least Rambo and Rambina would be unique! It might be better that your DH is so laid back...that way, you'll pretty much get your pick of names.

stevesbabygirl: Thanks for the explanation...I'll have to try tonight. Nice belly shot. I've been trying to post pics on here for a while, but can't get it to work.

Sarah6690: Sorry you didn't get to talk with your dr., but your midwife sounds really nice and at least you got to hear a good heartbeat. I can't believe you haven't gained any weight. I wish I could say the same.

Cosmogirl: Have fun at your u/s tomorrow. It sounds like you and your OB have a great relationship. That's got to be really nice. Good luck studying.

magrat: Thanks for the explanation on finding my uterus. I'll have to try it tonight. Sorry you had an unproductive weekend. Maybe this week you'll feel better and be able to get a tree. I've always had headaches, but since being pregnant have been getting bad ones too. My DH told me to just let him know when I don't have a headache...since it seems I'm always complaining of one. :-) Thanks for the info on my name choice. That website is very interesting.

I had my dr. apt. today and it went great. I LOVED the new practice I'm at and really liked the nurse practitioner that I met with today. She was very thorough and answered all of my questions. Best of all, we got to listen to the heartbeat. I'm not sure of the bpm, but it was going strong. I also heard some loud thud noises, and she said that was the baby moving around. He/She was quite active. I had blood drawn for the quad screening and will have the other part done in a few weeks. I was so anxious about today's apt. and feel so much better knowing that everything is OK. My next apt. is Jan. 2, which worked out perfect, b/c that is the day before I have to go back to work.

I have a question for you ladies. Are you eating feta cheese? I love it, but have read different things about whether it is OK or not. One thing I read says it is a no-no, and others say that if it is sold in the USA, it is most likely made with pasteurized milk, and therefore OK. The kind I usually buy from the store is made with pasteurized milk, but I don't want to risk it if I shouldn't be eating it.

em1126 - I actually bought it at Best Buy. I was there buying the Rocky movies to send in DH's care package, and I happened to see it. As a matter of fact, I am going to go pop it in soon and get some good relaxation going on! You can buy it on Amazon as well; that's where I found the picture.

stevesbabygirl - Yes, I like my name. If you think that's different, you should see my first name! I guess I'm a bit hesitant to share my first name online though. I definitely did not like my name as a kid b/c people always (and still do) messed it up. It still hear, "Okay, what's your first name" after I tell people my name. Actually, when I was at Panera Bread the other day, the girl checking me out said "Wow, that's a werid name. But I guess some people have weird parents." Nice huh?! I'm pretty used to name comments from people and don't think anything of it anymore, but that girl just ticked me off a little.

GA_GAL - I have not had any feta. I do like it, though the nutrition guide my OB gave me said to avoid it (though I did have some canned tuna the other night and have heard conflicting things about that as well).

Tomorrow, I have an u/s too! Just like Cosmogirl. I am so super excited...I'm actually going to see my baby! I guess part of me is also just the tiniest bit worried that there will be no baby in there and that this was all too good to be true. I'm still excited though! I"m also having a cholesterol blood draw done first thing in the morning so I am on my 12 hour fast right now.

I finally have a reason to love Tuesdays. It's the day I get to add a week to my count! I stayed up way to late last night watching the Bears game. I'm paying for it now.

Cosmogirl I hope your sister doesn't steal your name. Is it a name you both thought of. Or did you say it and she decided she liked it?

magrat I have been getting really bad headaches too. Almost every other day. I don't remember having this many with DS. Sorry you weren't able to get a tree. Are you still planning on getting one? That's why I stuck with my fake tree for this year at least.

GA Gal I haven't had any feta cheese, but I probably would if I wanted some. I've heard that as long as it is from the US and pasteurized, it is perfectly safe. Also on the tuna thing, as long as it is only occasionally that you eat it, it's safe. (I had tuna from subway last night :p ).

micd good luck with your u/s! How exciting! We now have to wait until Feb before we have another one. How rude of that girl at Panera. Some people should just keep their opinions to themselves.

magrat, thanks! That's so neat that you can feel your uterus. I haven't tried yet, but I think I will soon! The midwife had no problem finding it yesterday! I love the name Miles, and Seth is a huge fan of Alexander (the only reason we went with Alex instead is because we have a really long last name and didn't want to give the kid too many long names!). I also love Olivia, but I think it is getting more popular. You definitely have a lot of options! I guess it's not me alone, then, who thinks that Christmas is coming awfully early this year. I guess it's the way the weeks worked out in the calendar, but it feels like Christmas is in the middle of the month - I can't believe that it's practically next weekend already. I still have so much shopping to do for the friends we're spending the weekend with!

GA GAL, thanks, I also love the names you have! Both Harper and Handley are very elegant. I'm so happy to hear that your appointment went well and that you're comfortable with the new practice, and that baby is doing well. What a relief! I haven't been eating feta, but I have been eating bleu cheese.

Cosmogirl, I definitely like your boy's name, and you have some great ones to choose from for girls. I hope you and your sister can work out the Mathilde choice (and that it comes out in your favor!). I hope your itchiness is gone soon. That is so annoying! I can't wait to see your u/s pic!

LoveBeingAMommy, ooh, I like those, too! So many great choices in here!!!

risa, lol. My niece is Amanda Rose. My BIL's late mother was named Rose, so it was after her. I think it's a beautiful name. I like it paired with Kailyn as well.

micd, oh, we should never put our husbands together. Mine kept suggesting Chuck Yeager. As a first name, like Chuckyeager. Oy. Thanks for posting that DVD you got. I'm asking DH to get me one for Chanukah and I'll tell him to keep an eye out for that when he's shopping. How annoying about the name comments! I hated my name growing up and wanted to change it when I was old enough. I never even met another Jenean till I was in college. Now I know a few and I don't really mind it anymore. But I am pretty certain that having an unusual name while growing up is part of why I'm set on naming our kids with more traditional names.

stevesbabygirl, I think Quinn is a very cool name. I know a lot of little girl Jordans now, though. I think the count is up to 3 who are all under 4 years old. I also love the name Owen. One of LJ friends named her son that. You look great in your pic!

em1126, another Owen choice! I like!

Sarah, I hate when CC eats my posts. It's so frustrating. Sorry you didn't have a more successful appointment, but glad to hear that all seems to be well right now. Go get yourself a giant milkshake!!! I feel the same way about Tuesdays. I love 'em!

Does anyone receive pregnancy updates from BabyCenter? I just read through my 15 week update and was surprised to find out that:

Your baby is slightly more likely to be a boy than a girl. On average in the U.S., 1,048 boys are born for every 1,000 girls.

Just a little fun baby tidbit for you all!

Jenean Looking forward to the appt. update. Hopefully, everything goes/went well!

micd Thanks the the info on the yoga DVD. It was the funniest thing; yesterday, I got the mail and one of my friends sent me a yoga DVD that she liked when she was pregnant, so we'll see how that one goes. Hope your U/S goes well!

Well, things here are going well with my pregnancy. My DH says it looks like I have a baby belly now. I still think I just look fat. :)

My job situation is a different story. Right now I work part-time as an independent contractor for a small real estate office. I am also working on getting my teaching certificate and I'm hoping to get some classroom experience before the baby comes. So, as soon as I can get my sub application done and am in the system, I plan on cutting back my real estate hours slightly and subbing on the days I'm not there. So, the R.E. company agreed to that, but basically told me after the baby comes, they won't guarantee me anything. I have kind of mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I'm not crazy about this job (to put it mildly), but on the other hand, it would be nice to have some guaranteed, flexible employment after the baby comes. So now, DH & I are throwing around the idea of putting the baby in daycare one or two days a week so I can sub (and, if there are any remaining, cutting my ties with the R.E. company completely). I think it will be important for my sanity to have some away-from-baby time. Of course, that could completely change after the baby comes, you never know. OK, I'll quit rambling now . . . :)

Just a quick question regarding belly shots since I'm going to try and get them taken tonight. Do you suck your stomach in at all (I hold my stomach in at least a little all the time - if I let it all hang loose people would have thought I was pregnant before I was!) or do you let it bulge out? I'm torn because I expect at some point I'm not going to have the option of holding it in, but on the other hand, I look a lot more pregnant than I really am if I don't. What's your take?

Names - John and I have had our names picked out for ages. And we each agreed on about the first names we though of. Must be "meant to be" :p We are naming our baby either Madelynn Avery or Jacob Wesley. The spelling of Madelynn is because my middle name is Lynn, and Wesley is my husbands middle name. Everyone we have told seems very pleased, or polite enough not to say anything. However, we didn't tell them they were names we were considering. We told them they were THE names.

em1126, oh, yes, all good! I understand about feeling like you look fat. I'm taking comfort in the fact that the only place on me that is expanding now is my gut, even though I still feel like it's just rolls of fat rather than little ones growing. I'm sorry that your job situation isn't more settled. What kind of real estate office do you work in? I do real estate, from the legal end of it. Not always very exciting (erm, rarely anything resembling exciting), but I mostly like it.

magrat, with my first belly shot at almost 8 weeks, I sucked it all in! Now I doubt I will. I really need to take another shot. Last night I got in bed and DH reminded me and I was too lazy to get back up.

Sarah, oh yeah, that's how my DH is! He read the Dr. Luke book that said I should be gaining a certain amount by a certain time and should be eating over 3000 calories a day and is always after me to snack, eat, drink. I hope your day is over quickly so you can get home to rest!

Stacie, yay! Obviously I love your girl's name! I like the different spelling. DH and I haven't settled on how we want to spell it - I like the "traditional" spelling, but knew a girl once who spelled hers Madalyn and liked that as well. We'll figure it out eventually. I think it's neat that you're using each of your middle names in your choices.

So, quickie update here: we saw the midwife for our one-month checkup yesterday. It was fast - I PIAC, got weighed (up 3 lbs in 4 1/2 weeks = good), and we listened to the h/b. Both were in the 150s. That was it. My next appointment is on January 3 - 3 weeks instead of 4 b/c Seth will be in FL for his new job in 4 weeks. I don't mind going a week early! We will see the doc next time and get an u/s. :)

I've been having a lot of lower back pain lately. Especially by the end of the day, and especially after I do any walking. Today I walked 10 blocks up to my appointment and 10 blocks back and was in agony. Midwife said I can use my heating pad on the low setting, but suggested trying ice first. I can't wait to get home and lie down on top of a bag of frozen peas! ;)

I've been browsing online for nursery bedding and found a set that I fell in love with. DH likes it, too, and my folks and best friends approve, so this will be it (I think):

http://images.nurserydepot.com/images/products/large/131092.jpg

My friends who are moms have given me advice as to what is and isn't important, so I'm going to pick and choose and get just a few pieces from this for decoration and then get basic stuff from BRU and Target to round it out. The basic set is expensive ($200!) and we need two of them, so instead of dropping a ton of money on stuff we won't get a lot of use out of (i.e., blanket, bumper), I'm just going to get the valance, lampshade, wall hangings, and one blanket to use as a wall hanging as well. Then I'll get solid color sheets and crib skirts and bumpers in complementary colors to finish it off.

I'm so excited! I'm finally getting an image of how I want the nursery to look now. It's painted yellow with white trim and I might do a few random color blocks in blue on the walls (but maybe not, that might be overkill with the multiple wall hangings), and my friend Alli suggested painting a few blue stars on the (white) ceiling for babies to look up at (once they can see that far!). I can't wait to see it in reality in our house!

Okay, back to work. Sigh. My office is moving on Thursday and it's really becoming a PITA.

I SO agree with your friends about this except for the bumpers. I thought I wouldn't use mine much, and it is still in DS's bed, and thank God, because he has this nasty habit of sleping with his face nearly in between the bars. He also again recently caught his legs really bad between the bars, and he caught them at a spot where the bumper was really low and not protective. SO yeah, the bumper rail is a must for us, but again, TOTALLY agree that the whole bedding set is NOT a must!

Jenean, prenitss, Sarah6690~ Thank you for the well wishes on saying good-bye to the nausea, but, unfortunately I spoke (er, typed) too soon. I was nauseated most the afternoon and had a nice session of vomitting :(

Cute twinny belly, Jenean!

Sarah6690: Thanks for your response about the feta. I feel like I'll be OK if I just have it occasionally and if it is made with pasteurized milk. Hope you had fun watching the movie...we saw it in the theaters when it came out and I didn't stop laughing the entire time.

Jenean: Thank you for your comments on my names. I love them. Isn't blue cheese in the same category as feta (soft cheeses)? I think I'll be OK. Aren't you having fun thinking about your nursery? I like the bedding you picked out. I'm all about using some of the "nice" stuff and then filling in with less expensive things. I have a boy and girl nursery planned out in my head and can't wait to put it into place. Great belly shots. I need to figure out how to post pictures so I can get mine on here. I've posted before, but now it doesn't seem to be working. Do you use snapfish?

L&D Nurse: Interesting tid-bit about the boy vs. girl thing. My gut tells me girl, but boys are much more prevalent on mine and DH's sides, so we'll have to see. Sorry about your sickness. Fingers crossed it will leave you soon. I wanted to let you know I was reading an article last night in one of my many magazines, but it was written by 4-5 L and D nurses and it was so interesting to hear their input, advise, etc. I also learned that for the most part, you'll be with your nurse during most of you labor and that they are the ones that really get you through it. Do you feel more calm/relaxed about delivery since you know what to expect?

Cosmogirl: What great u/s pictures. I love the one of your baby sucking his/her thumb. That is just awesome. I'm glad your exam went well yesterday and hopefully the rest will continue to be the same way.

em1126: Sorry about your job situation. I teach 1st grade and subbing is a great way to get in the classroom, see different grade levels, different schools, etc. Also, it is pretty much low stress because you don't have to worry about plans, grading papers, preparing materials, etc. You just get to get in, follow the plans, and get out. What age would you like to teach?

StacieLady: I like both of your names...they are really pretty. Also, I like your idea of telling people that those are THE names. Hopefully you'll have no comments that would be negative towards your names. I'll have to use that tactic when visiting our friends/family over the holidays.

prentiss: I'm glad your apt. went well. BTW, Avery Claire is a beautiful name.

Only 3 more days of school until our winter break. I'm SO ready. Our kids have been insane the past week or so and get progressively worse each day. They are so sweet, but just won't stop talking and it is driving me nuts.

We're going to be going "home" to Atlanta over our break and I can't wait. Also, this weekend we're going to vising DH's brother and his wife. They guys are going to ski and the girls are going to shop b/c she is pregnant too so no skiing for us. I had to pack tonight b/c DH is driving up to Atl. tomorrow (so that our dog and car can be there with the in-laws when we get back). He's taking most of my stuff with him so I won't have to deal with luggage when I fly to meet him on Friday. It usually takes me forever to pack and I bring WAY too many clothes. However, it was SO easy tonight. I just packed the things that actually fit me and was done. :-)

Okay, I accidentally posted early...don't know how I did that. My computer is quite old.

Sarah6690 - Talladega Nights is pretty funny...my DH loved it!

em1126 - I also teach first grade. Subbing is great, as GA_GAL said, though I don't think I'd be brave enough to do it :). I guess I just like having my own classroom with the same kids everyday. :p It is a good experience to sub though to see if you may like it.

L&D Nurse - That is a bummer about the vomiting. :(

StacieLady - I know a little girl who's first name is Averi...I think it is so unique and pretty.

prentiss - That is great that your m/s went away so early!

Okay, I had a great day! (Just like Cosmogirl ;) ). Had my two appointments this morning. First I met with the head midwife to go over my medical history and make sure I qualify to have a midwife as my provider. Everything is great with that so I am going to go for it. Then she did an exam. Just a basic one, along with a pelvic exam of my uterus. She said that my uterus is tilted out more which means that I may show sooner. Then I heard the HB! Wow, so amazing! I was thinking "Oh my gosh, there really is a baby in there" :)

Next I went up to have my u/s! This was the best part. Since I am participating in a gall bladder study, I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, including an 11 page survey of what I ate before getting p/g! First she did the u/s of my gall bladder; so interesting. Then I saw my baby! He/she just popped right up there and holy cow I really am pregnant! The nurse said, "let me just check to make sure he's not alone in there!" I started laughing, as my mom and my mother in law both had twins, so that would be been pretty crazy if I did too! We got a lot of good pic of baby. He/She was flopping around a lot too, like a little fish, and waving his/her arms around. When I saw the u/s it really truly hit me that this is for real. One of the most amazing experiences of my life.

Thanks girl!
Lucky you having only 3 days left.:D I'm SO ready to, but unfortunatly, my last exam in next thursday  CANNOT wait for some vacay! Enjoy your vacay back "home"
What are you studiying in?

I was nauseated most the afternoon and had a nice session of vomitting :(

I'm sorry mama! I can comiserate though as I did the same thing last night. Beef really is making me feel nauseous still, and of course, DH made beef for dinner. I ate a few bites, and couldn't no more, so I tried to stuff down a salad. But for some reasons, I just cannot eat right now, I'm not feeling for anything. A minute after I was done, it was out. I'm sorry you are still feeling like that though. Have you given thoughts to usein some of the anti-nausea meds that can be used through pregnancy?

Okay, I had a great day! (Just like Cosmogirl ;) ).
Next I went up to have my u/s! This was the best part.

Jenean great belly shots! I'm so mad at myself, that I still haven't taken any. I keep forgetting. I'll try to remember, so DH can do it tonight.

L&D Nurse I'm sorry your m/s still hasn't gone away. I got sick this morning too, which really surprised me. But I'm feeling much better now that I've eaten something. Still hungry though.

GA Gal we watched the movie last night, and I fell asleep. Put on movie on and turn off the lights, and I am out cold. Wished I had seen more of it, it looked really funny.

Cosmogirl I'm glad you get to use your name. Did your sister pick something else? Good luck with the rest of your exams.

micd glad your u/s went so well. Yuck about all the paperwork, but I guess it's worth it.

I think I started to feel my baby move yesterday while I was sitting at a computer class. Someone on CC described the first flutters as "popcorn" and that is exactly what it feels like - little popcorns popping. I felt it again this morning and feel it occasionally with the warm computer on my belly. I guess pregnancy is all about taking the bad (nausea :() with the good (popcorn! :D)

L&D Nurse How exciting! I'm glad you're getting some positives to balance out all the sickness you've had!

jenean That's definitely a twin belly you have going there! What a cute top! I'm not going to get a crib bumper either. I'd rather have my baby's face pressing into the bars than into a bumper because of the suffocation risk. I figure I pretty much only need a crib skirt and sheets. The sheets I'll get at Target or something and I've got my eye on Javis Davis (http://www.javisdavis.com) for the skirt, and maybe some fabric for curtains (there are three windows in our nursery, each a different size, so the standard ones won't work!). I especially like these:
http://www.javisdavis.com/fabrics/images/swatcheslg/over_the_moon_pastel_6.jpghttp://www.javisdavis.com/fabrics/images/swatcheslg/topsy_turvy_6.jpg

cosmogirl Great U/S pics. Isn't it amazing to look up pictures of fetuses as far along as we are and see how much like babies they look? I can't get over the fact it no longer looks like a blob!

I finally got some belly shots taken last night. My hair looks so bad at the moment, I haven't had the energy to get it cut, and can't be bothered to style it either :) I decided yesterday as well that I am starting to show, ever so slightly. My stomach always bulged out a bit (at least for the past few years :p ) but it's bulging a tiny bit more, and feels much firmer. I had DH poke me in the stomach and he agreed that it felt a lot less squishy. I guess it's all my internal organs being shoved out of the way. Anyway, here is 13 weeks, wearing my ON yoga maternity pants (all my normal pants still fit, but I wanted some continuity down the road).

I can't believe there's a picture of me pregnant standing in my own house with my own area rug and fireplace. I've got it made.

Cosmogirl I know you aren't considering the name, but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents on the name Sarah. I don't like it. It might not be as bad now as it was when I was younger. But everyone I knew had the same dang name as me. Two of my best friends growing up were named Sarah. I never knew when someone was talking to me or one of the other 500 Sarah's. With that said, DH's name is Eric, which is way too common. So we thought we were being different when we named DS Kayden. Now, we know about 5 other Kaydens and Aidans or something of that variation. So, I guess there's no winning short of just making up some bizarre name.

L&D Nurse that's so exciting! I've heard some people say it felt like popcorn. With DS it felt like little gas bubbles at first. I haven't felt this one yet. Of course, I would never know since I've been so gassy anyway, I probably couldn't tell the difference.

magrat That's definately a baby bump you've got there! How cute! I like the fabrics you're looking at. I'm definately getting a bumper pad. I don't much about the suffocation risks. The way I look at is, in the beginning, they aren't rolling over anyway. I used one of those back sleeper things with DS. Don't know what they are called, but there's a pad on each side of them so that can't roll over. Also, it is recommended that you take them out when the baby can pull themselves up. As they can be stepped on to climb out. Here is something else I read.
The AAP’s policy on the use of bumper pads does not call them a “suffocation hazard” — however, they do recommend that bumper pads “should be thin, firm, well secured, and not ‘pillow-like’ ” to reduce the risk of SIDS.

prentiss, hehe. 10 blocks is usually nothing. I work in NYC, so I walk everywhere. My walk to and from the train station is 8 blocks (although that's going to become 13 blocks after my office moves tomorrow). But I think soon I'm going to have to start taking cabs or the subway just to reduce the impact those city sidewalks have on my body! I like the name Avery a lot! My best friend named her son that, but I think I like it better for a girl! I'm glad you finally got to see your doc! Your u/s is coming up fast, I can't wait to see the pics!

Cosmogirl, thanks for sharing about the bumper! I'll definitely keep that in mind. I have to see if I can buy that and blanket separately. So far I've only seen them as part of a set with the crib sheet and skirt, too, but I really would like to avoid buying all 4 and spending so much. I'm sure BRU has simple bumpers? I'm sorry you're still feeling icky. I hope you can find something appetizing. Pizza was always good for me. ;) I hope your next exam went well! And great news about Mathilde!!!

L&D Nurse, aw, sucky. I'm so sorry. Maybe that was the nausea's last hurrah and now it'll go away for good! Crossing fingers for you. That is SO FREAKIN' COOL about feeling the baby! I'm thrilled for you!

GA GAL, bleu cheese was on my list of approved foods from my doctor. I don't usually buy feta - only eat it out, and since I don't always trust restaurants to be 100% sure of things, I just don't bother with it. I'm sure small amounts won't hurt you, though, especially if you check on the pasteurization first. I am having a blast picturing the nursery. I was thinking last night that I might want to paint a few blue stars on the walls, too, in addition to the ceiling. Then I can hang the little wall hangings that match that set, put up a few shelves, and be done. I can't wait to hear and see your ideas! I use photobucket for CC picture posting. Snapfish and Shutterfly don't seem to work. Your trip sounds like it will be fun. How cool that your BIL and SIL are expecting now, too. Do you live close to them? It'd be neat for cousins to be able to grow up near each other. Yay for easy packing! My overnight trip next week will be a breeze - pj's and one change of clothes and I'm done. Whew!

micd, thanks! :) So great about your appointments! What does a gall bladder look like? Isn't it amazing to actually SEE the little baby in there? I still half feel like I'm just watching it all happen to someone else.

Sarah, yes, take some pics! I'm sorry I didn't take a couple in between 8w and now, but I guess it's good b/c you can definitely see how I've grown!

magrat, ooh, I love that first pattern! It reminds me so much of the fabric that's in my baby blanket (my mimi, which is still in my bed with me every night!). I think that would make a very pretty crib skirt and curtains. The second is also very pretty and I do like its colors a lot. You look great, and yes, you've got it made baby!

Just to chime back in on the bumper thing: I just had lunch with a friend who's the mom of a 15-month old and she said she never used hers. She was worried about the suffocation stuff.

RO's, I know we talked about this back in our first thread, but can we do it again? How many of you have convertible cribs, or have cribs that have adjustable side rails? The crib I found that I like is a convertible and it's side rail doesn't go up or down. It's low enough for me to reach in to put down or pick up a baby (the front rail is as low as a crib with the adjustable rail in the lowest position), but I was worried about the baby being able to climb out sooner if I couldn't put it up. The salesguy said that when the kid can climb out, that's when you convert it to a toddler bed anyway. Opinions?

StacieLady

I know you can buy bumpers separately. :) My mom just bought one at Target for my niece because now that she is almost 6 months old she wakes up in the night screaming because she has gotten one (or both) of her feet through the bars. There were only 3 patterns (one girl, one boy, and one unisex) though. That really doesn't give you a lot of decor choices. I don't know how easy it would be to recover one though.

we didn't spend a whole lot on the crib...it is a convertible...but we never converted it. DD climbed out of the crib once. her doctor said once was fine...the second time, we'd have to consider moving her to a regular bed/toddler bed, etc. we never got to that point...we did move her to a twin...much after DS was born as i slept with DS on me from the time he was discharged to the time he was almost 6 months old(when the doctor asked about where he was sleeping, i was very upfront about him sleeping on me and that we'd continue that until DS was given a clean bill of health-the doc said we were coming to that and i said fine, i'll deal with that...and a few weeks later, he moved to the cradle)...and i think that's probably when we started moving DD to the bed. DS is still in the crib and really doesn't seem to have an interest in getting out of it, so, it's kind of wait and see.

i have my next perinat appt tomorrow and i guess we'll be talking amnio.

Jenean I don't care for the look of convertible cribs myself, and I couldn't imagine ever converting. You usually have to spend $100s to buy the side rails anyway, and if you have another baby you'll have to buy a new crib (and what will you do with two double beds in NYC??) As far as the kind with stationary sides go, one thing for you in particular to consider is the high risk you have of a c-section because of the twins, and how difficult it would be to lean over it while you're recovering. If you're going to use bassinets first that won't be an issue, but if you intend to put them in the crib right away I would think it would be more difficult. Just something to think about.

Jenean, we got a convertible crib for my DD (actually, my parents bought it for us :) ) It's this one:
http://www.bergfurniture.com/convertible.html (It's the Sydney one. If you click on it, then you can watch how it converts all the way to the full size bed).
We didn't have any problems with DD climbing out. Sometime around 15 months, we put her in a toddler bed (didn't convert the crib because a friend gave us a toddler bed). Right around when she turned 2, we converted her crib into a full bed, and she has the sleep rails on either side. She moves around a lot when she sleeps, so it's a good thing she has the big bed. We were planning on using it for the second child, but now that we're having twins who will be sharing a room, we have to figure out what we're going to do. We'll either buy two non-convertible cribs and let DD keep her headboard and footboard or we'll buy one more of the same crib and DD can go without the headboard/footboard for a couple of years.

This is the rocker we have, but the fabric is a solid tan (real soft, not regular fabric...kind of hard to describe). We didn't go with a traditional glider because we wanted something we could move to another room of the house when we were done using it in the nursery.

Regarding the bumper...for $24.95 at onestepahead.com, you can get a breathable bumper.

I keep telling myself that I will do better with the SOs! Here is a start!

I really like everyone's name choices. It is fun to hear all the options and all the reasons for each of you to choose the ones you did. Thank you to everyone who said nice things about my choices. :)

micd - My DH came up with Avery out of the blue. I was so proud of him. He is generally really traditional so I was surprised that he picked it, but I absolutely love it! :)

Jenean - John really wanted to include Lynn in our girls name because when we got married I dropped my middle name and moved my maiden name into its place. He was kinda sad that my name got lost, so he wanted to incorporate it. :)

L&D Nurse - Thank you for the "popcorn" description. I actually think I may have felt a little popcorn just as I was reading your post! I can't be sure, but it was definitely where I would have expected the feeling to come from. And it felt just as if a single kernel of popcorn just popped in there. It definitely made me smile, and I guess that is what counts! :)

My next appointment is next Monday and I am much less nervous this time, but still a little nervous. I keep remembering that I had to put away 2 pairs of pants last week, so that has to be a good sign!

Yes, I feel very comfortable with what to expect, what I want and don't want, what to ask for, etc. during my labor and delivery. It also helps that I will be delivering at the hospital where I work, so I am familiar with all of the doctors, anesthesiologists, nurses, etc. that will be taking care of me. I have had a lot of experience with high risk pregnancies and deliveries, and feel like I have *almost* seen it all, or at least heard about it. So even though I am expecting a complication-free delivery, I will know what is happening if something out of the ordinary comes up. Feel free to ask me any questions you have, I will try to answer them to the best of my ability!

I had my appointment at the new doctor’s office today. It ended up being wonderful! The office staff was nice, and the nurse practitioner that I saw was awesome. Thank God they weren’t as bad in person as they were on the phone!

We got to the office right at 10, and sat in the waiting room for about half an hour, which was my only real complaint. After peeing in a cup, and then having to pee about 3 more times after that, they finally brought me back. My weight was 144, so I think I’ve gained about a pound or two so far, and my blood pressure was an astonishingly low 92/70! It’s always been around 110/70, so I was shocked that it was so low. I was put in a room, and after having to pee yet again (I drank a lot of water this morning just in case they were going to do an ultrasound), I got changed into the cute paper outfit.

The nurse practitioner walked in, and I felt comfortable with her right away. She was just such a nice lady. She kept me covered while doing all of the exams, which I really appreciated, because I’m rather modest. She said my cervix looked great, my uterus felt good, and that I have perfect nipples for breastfeeding! I’m sure you’re all thrilled to know that ;).

After the physical exam, she busted out the Doppler, and we got to hear the heartbeat! It took her less than 5 seconds to find it, but during that time, I was nervous that she wouldn’t be able to find it. Then we heard it on the left side, just beating away, nice and strong! What an amazing sound that is.

After the exam, Steve got a chance to sit up on the table, haha! He doesn’t know his blood type, and because I’m O negative, it’s kind of important to know what his is. So he got up on the table and they took a vial of blood so that they can type it. We should find out by the end of the week.

After that was all over, we sat with the nurse practitioner, and we went over our medical histories. She also asked about what kind of testing we wanted to do, as far as Fragile X, cystic fibrosis, and AFP. We’re definitely going to do the AFP test, because of an incident in Steve’s family. If insurance will cover it, we’re also thinking about doing the other two.

Speaking of insurance, we have awesome insurance! When all is said and done, as far as the doctor’s office is concerned, we’re only going to have to pay about $350 to have this baby! I’m sure it will be a little bit more when they factor in the anesthesiologist and all that stuff, but all of my prenatal visits, the doctor for the delivery, and ultrasounds are included in that $350. Sweet!

My next appointment is January 10th.

lorbo, thanks for the input! I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

magrat, those are a lot of good points! For me, I love the look of the convertible cribs. Of course, I was drawn straight to the $900 model in the showroom! Had to redirect myself to something a little, erm, more within our budget! :p We actually have a 3 bedroom house in the suburbs, so we're good on space, thank goodness!, and part of the attraction of the convert. cribs is that if our kids end up sharing a room, they'll already have matching beds and furniture (of course, they'd need a huge room to fit two full-size beds in it). Even if we split them up, I like the idea of them having a bed that can grow with them, and I'm sure we'll always be able to find more adult-like furniture to match. For one baby, I agree, because by the time we would be ready to move kid 1 out of the crib, we'd probably need it again for kid 2. But since we're having twins..... it changed a lot of my thinking about certain things! I think the crib model I like best comes with the side rails, but I'll make sure to ask about that when I take DH to check it out this weekend - thanks for reminding me of that! I didn't think about leaning over, etc. after a c/s, but since the stationary side of the convert. crib is the same height as the lowered position of the adjustable model, I guess it wouldn't make too big a difference? We're planning for them to sleep in our room in a co-sleeper attached to our bed at first anyway, plus DH and my mom and dad will be around immediately following the birth, so they can help with stuff like that, too. I just hope we do end up converting them; I've heard of so many people who buy these cribs and never convert, and I don't want to waste money on an extra feature like that if we won't use it. But then again, the convertible model I like is the same price as the adjustable one.... sigh, I go back and forth like this in my head all the time! You should hear me when I'm trying to figure out which SBS stroller to get!

LoveBeingAMommy, ooh, that's a pretty crib! I like how it looks as a bed, too. I'm sure your DD will never know the difference b/w having a headboard and footboard right away or not. The rocker looks comfy. It looks a lot like a glider I tried out last weekend. Thanks for posting that bumper! I get the One Step Ahead catalog, so I'll be sure to mark that in the next one.

Stacie, points to your DH!!! :D That is so incredibly sweet of him to want to include Lynn like that. No nervousness for your appointment - only excitement!!!!!

L&D Nurse, we are lucky to have you in here!

stevesbabygirl, yay good nipples! Hee! That's awesome that you had such a good visit and I'm so glad you're comfortable with everyone there. Were they concerned about your lower blood pressure? We did the Fragile X test with our ultrascreen last week and expect to have our results back this week or next. It was covered by our insurance. Yay for a good heartbeat! It's such an incredibly cool sound.

I think I have most of my office packed up. Whew. Not fun! I'll finish up the last stuff tomorrow and try to get a little bit of work done before I get kicked out at noon. Yay short day tomorrow! For now, I'm off. Have a great night ladies!

I think I started to feel my baby move yesterday while I was sitting at a computer class.
Awww that is amazing. One of the colest thing about pregnancy hands down! I'm sure it will make you maybe forget a little about nausea;)

cosmogirl Great U/S pics. Isn't it amazing to look up pictures of fetuses as far along as we are and see how much like babies they look? I can't get over the fact it no longer looks like a blob!

Yeap, I was amazed the first time, and I still am! This really just looks like a tiny human being! It mesures what 7cm! Growing a baby really is an amazing miracle everytime!
Cute belly pic BTW!:D

CosmogirlSo we thought we were being different when we named DS Kayden. Now, we know about 5 other Kaydens and Aidans or something of that variation. So, I guess there's no winning short of just making up some bizarre name.
Yeap, I agree. And we had this line of thought with DS who has a popular name. But then, it fitted and still fits him so well that we are happy that we went with this one. What we did though was to add another name to it in case he wants to have something more unique in school, so it doesn't happen to him what happened to you. I know this can be quite a PITA when everybody has the same name KWIM?

Cosmogirl, thanks for sharing about the bumper! I'll definitely keep that in mind. I have to see if I can buy that and blanket separately.

Yes you can. I've seen many people do that. I love the one that was posted, the one that is breathable. It just prevents little feet and legs to be stuck between the bars. The night that that happened to DS, when I realised it, my heart almost stopped!
The exam went great! only 2 to go!:D
BTW I do have a convertible crib, but only because when we bought it, it was the one we liked best, and it was cheaper then some other. I don't really care for the convertible part.

for my niece because now that she is almost 6 months old she wakes up in the night screaming because she has gotten one (or both) of her feet through the bars.

Yeap, same happened to me. I HATED that experience!

Regarding the bumper...for $24.95 at onestepahead.com, you can get a breathable bumper.

Thanks!!

micd: I'm so glad that you got your u/s today. I think it is just amazing, too.

Cosmogirl: I'm not actually studying. I'm a teacher so instead of saying "work" I guess I always say "school." What are you studying? I'm glad you get your name.

L&D Nurse: I can't believe you felt your baby! That is so neat. I'm so excited to feel my baby move, but don't know when it will be. It's great that you feel so comfortable wiht delivery and will know exactly what is going on. Honestly, I'm not realy thinking too much about L and D right now. However, as the time comes I know I will have a million questions and feel very lucky to have an expert to ask!

magrat: Great belly shot...definitely a little baby belly.

Jenean: For a boy, we're going to do a sailboat theme and I've picked out a few patterns from PBK for a girl...definitely something pink though. I'll have to try photobucket to get my pictures on here. It is fun that my SIL is expecting. She's due in Feb. I wasn't happy about it for a while b/c when they got married they said they weren't going to have kids and then all the sudden she's pregnant and I was having such a hard time getting pregnant. I'm very happy know though. I grew up with a lot of cousins my age, so I'm happy that my child will have a similar experience. They live in Denver, so we aren't near each other, but we still see them as much as we can.

StacieLady: How sweet of your DH to want to incorporate your middle name. I think that is very thoughtful of him. I'm jealous of your "popcorn" feelings, but hope mine come soon.

stevesbabygirl: I'm glad your apt. went so well. I think nurse practitioners are great. They always seem less rushed and are so darn nice. I know you must have loved hearing the heartbeat and knowing that everything looks good.

I've been reading along with the convertible crib discussions. I'm going through the same thing right now. I'm really not sure what to get. However, so many of the cribs I've looked at are the convertible ones and cost the same amount as regular cribs. One thing I'm considering is color. I want white for a girl and don't mind white for a boy, but DH wants something different for a boy. I think paired with boyish bedding, it looks fine...like this one

I also really love the navy and red furniture at PBK, but don't want to spend that much money. I keep searching online for similar colors, but haven't had any luck. Anyone seen any cribs in finishes like this?

If I go with white and use it for either sex, then I could get a regular crib. However, if I don't use white for a boy, then I'd want to get a convertible crib and be able to buy another one when the next baby comes along. Where are some of you looking for your cribs? Any online sites you could share? Also, what price are you considering? Besides the really expensive stuff, most things I've seen have been in the $200-$400 range. Does that seem normal?

OK, after reading all about the "popcorn feeling" I could have sworn I just felt a few little pops. I'm in awe right now, but don't know if it is way to early for me to be feeling that?
