You know the episode when someone died and Josh Groban sang To Where You Are at the funeral (he was wearing a red choir robe). At the end, they showed Ally putting flowers on a grave. Who died?

i'm totally lost - ally mcbeal isnt on anymore?? are they airing episodes somewhere?

Josh Groban's (character's) mother, I think. He had refused to sing after she died (I think she was mugged/murdered), but Ally convinced him that his mother would have wanted him to.

Ahh... I saw the video clip of To Where You Are on YouTube (clip from Ally McBeal), and didn't know who died. They showed Ally celebrating with all her law firm friends, so I thought one of them died. Then they showed cops walking in parade fashion all holding candles, so I thought a cop died. But then they showed her putting flowers on a grave so I had no idea.

He might have sang more than once--but he definitely did so at this mom's funeral.

Oh how I loved Ally McBeal.

If the scene is Ally putting flowers on a grave, it was Billy's (he died of an anerysm in court).

Oh - so they're showing Ally's remembering more than one person who died!

So, she put the flowers on Billy's grave, but Josh sang at his own mom's funeral.

Which one was Billy? Was he the dark haired good looking lawyer that she used to see and talk to her after he was dead?

(the other time he sang was the high school dance - so awesome!)

Yes. He was married to Courtney Thorne Smith on the show. He and Ally used to date (and almost got married, IIRC) in college. Are these shows being reaired on TV right now?

Billy and Ally were BF/GF since they were little kids--he broke up with her when he left Harvard law for Michigan in his 3rd year--she found out later he left for stupid Courtney Thorne Smith.

He decided he still loved Ally, though, but then he dies from a brain tumor.

I remember being so pissed/sad/unprepared for his death. Had no clue that was coming and they had just professed their undying love for one another.

BTW, I think Calista Flockhart did 10x better with this role than the one she's playing now on Brothers and Sisters. Although, I do like the Ally McBeal character a lot better than the Kitty Walker one.

Oh I loved that show, especially the first few seasons. I heard it's really unlikely to be released on DVD in the U.S. because of all the different songs they used in the show, so the royalties they'd owe would be enormous.

I think a few seasons are available in the U.K.

The show hasn't been on in ages. I was watching the Josh Groban clip on YouTube. Ally McBeal was one of his first major performance, and his career took off after that.

Thanks for the info ladies, now I get it!
