For the sixth year in a row, we’re hosting a special series to help people learn how to plan a wedding. And this year we have a special twist: It's a hometown wedding! Throughout this special series, "Today" show guests will offer helpful advice and guide viewers through the entire process of planning a wedding, and we invite you to share in the fun.
I started this thread for the past two years over on the WC and wanted to continue the tradition! I'll post updates every week, because I know most of us are at work when they are this segment on the Today Show.
I love the fact that they are doing hometown weddings this year, it'll make the wedding that much more personal for the couple and will allow all their friends and family to be a part of the big day!

Nicholas Raymond and Kimberly Stowell
Hometown: Hampden, Maine
Bride’s occupation: Graduate student
Groom’s occupation: High school math teacher, part-time graduate student
Bride’s age: 23
Groom’s age: 24
Time together: They’ve been a couple for almost four years.
Engagement date: February 14, 2005
Why she’s the one: “When I realized I couldn’t fall asleep each night until I’ve heard her voice.”
Why he’s the one: “He’s caring, generous and a lot like me. Most importantly I can trust him completely.”
For Nicholas and Kimberly, a blind date sealed their fate. Both were students at the University of Maine, but it wasn’t until Nicholas found himself dateless for a fraternity brother’s Halloween party that opportunity knocked. Cupid, disguised as Nicholas’s friend, set him up with Kimberly. His first thought: “She’s gorgeous with a powerful smile!” This was the start of a beautiful relationship.
About a month after Nicholas and Kimberly started dating, the couple both thought it strange that those close to them, like Kim’s sister, would say that marriage is definitely in the cards for them.
Even though Nicholas and Kimberly would laugh it off, their love grew just as others predicted it would. Nicholas never doubted even for a second that they had a special bond from the very beginning.
Three and a half years after they first met, Nicholas, being the romantic, planned a night to remember for Valentine’s Day. Kimberly came home late from class and hurried to get her card and gift for Nicholas. A card that Nicholas barely read because he was so nervous about what was to come. Trying to set the mood, Nicholas started playing “My Girl” on the CD player while reciting this:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Valentine’s day would mean nothing to me if it were not for you
I hope this Valentine’s will be the most memorable for you thus far
No I did not get you flowers or even a car
You kept saying over and over”
That you did not want that heart shaped box of candy
So I was trying to figure out what I could get you that would be nice and handy
I thought long and hard for that special thing
And the only thing I could think of was this ring
Kimberly Ann Stowell, will you marry me?
Nicholas and Kimberly were engaged that night. It’s often said that love is blind. For Nicholas and Kimberly, their blind date led them to love.

Brad Meyers and Lisa McCarthy
Hometown: Bucks County, Pennsylvania
Bride’s occupation: Project manager for a visual display company
Groom’s occupation: Insurance salesman
Bride’s age: 28
Groom’s age: 31
Time together: They’ve been a couple for over five years.
Engagement date: April 2, 2005
Why she’s the one: “Because I realized that I really, really love her!”
Why he’s the one: “Because there was a point that I could no longer imagine my life without him.”
Brad and Lisa met about six years ago through mutual friends. These friends, Dave and Laura, had been trying to get Lisa to meet Brad for the longest time.
Lisa was a true New Yorker and didn’t believe in dating someone that wasn’t a subway ride away, and Brad was from Pennsylvania and definitely too far. They finally met at Dave and Laura’s holiday party and chatted for about 10 minutes and although sparks didn’t fly immediately, their friends, Dave and Laura, pretended they did.
Dave kept telling brad that Lisa was “asking” about him, while Laura kept telling Lisa that Brad was really “into” her. Soon enough, Brad was visiting New York pretty often and Lisa was spending weekends in Bucks County. Brad and Lisa were dating for about five months before they found out that their friends had been lying the whole time just to get them together. Even though their friends’ deception was the start of this relationship, the seed of love was firmly planted.
Years later while at a local bar one night, Brad made a bet with Lisa that if she could hold onto the mechanical bull then he would propose in six months. While Lisa hated that bull, she ran to it, rode it and held on for her heart and dear life!!!
Six months and two days later, Brad held up his end of the deal when he and Lisa were enjoying a romantic weekend in the Poconos. Brad popped the question with candles, a bottle of Dom Perignon and the engagement ring placed on strawberries. Brad proposed on bended knee as Lisa slipped on the ring Brad had designed especially for her.
Throughout the five years, Brad and Lisa have been there for each other through more than a few unfortunate events. Lisa stood by Brad as he struggled to keep the family business from folding. Brad stood by Lisa as she lost her entire apartment and everything in it during the 9/11 attacks on New York City. Beyond all of life’s mishaps, Brad and Lisa know that with each other they can overcome anything in their paths.

Allen Francois and Serrita White
Hometown: Seattle, Washington
Bride’s occupation: Administrative assistant
Groom’s occupation: Legislative aide
Bride’s age: 31
Groom’s age: 29
Time together: They’ve been a couple for one year and two months.
Engagement date: March 25, 2005
Why she’s the one: “When I recognized her eagle-like spirit and boundless love for her family and those close to her, I couldn’t help but imagine spending every moment with her.”
Why he’s the one: “This man has a heart and spirit so beautiful and pure. There’s no question that he’s my life-mate and will always make my heart flutter.”
Serrita was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where the streets have special meaning and every corner holds a memory. However, her career ambitions led her to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. during the summer of 1998.
While working on the Hill, Serrita would often run into Allen, an intern in another senator’s office. Serrita thought “He was a cute intern,” while Allen thought, “Wow, I might have a chance!”
Office chit chat was their main mode of communication until Serrita invited Allen to an annual BBQ at her house. They hit it off and started dating, but relationships don’t always go according to plan. They broke up six months later. In hindsight Allen says “It was young stupidity, and foolishly I let her go.”
For the next four years, Serrita stayed in Washington, D.C. while Allen returned to his life in Michigan. Even though Serrita was out of sight, Allen couldn’t get her off his mind.
Last November after realizing what he lost, Allen called Serrita and invited her to dinner. Allen laid all his cards on the table and told Serrita he was wrong and this time he would do it right. Serrita was skeptical and gave Allen every reason why it wouldn’t work, but love had other plans. This time around their relationship is stronger than either could have ever imagined, even surviving the distance of Serrita being in Washington, D.C. while Allen is working back home in Michigan. “We are so deep in love that it hurts both of us to say good-bye at airports.”
After four months of being back together with Serrita, Allen knew what he needed to do. They were both reading “The Davinci Code” together, so Allen created an elaborate puzzle via E-mail to Serrita, sending her clues to four words. As the puzzles were being decoded by Serrita, Allen flew to D.C. and asked her to check the answers that were attached on a bottle of sparkling wine. The decoded puzzle read “Will You Marry Me?” along with a diamond ring.

Mark Dale and Sarah Raley
Hometown: Valley Lee, Maryland
Bride's occupation: Director of sales of a major hotel chain
Groom's occupation: General Manager of a health club
Bride's age: 23
Groom's age: 26
Time together: They've been a couple for just over six years.
Engagement date: September 13, 2004
Why she's the one: "Sarah helped me realize that it's okay to open up and let love in. She's helped me through my hardest times and she is the reason for my best times."
Why he's the one: "I watched him take care of his mother as she lost her battle to cancer and saw his devotion and unconditional love, and it's the same kind of love that he shows me."
It's usually a social taboo for a senior to date a freshman, especially in high school. For Mark and Sarah, this rule still held true. Although all the girls had a crush on Mark during high school, Sarah wasn't interested in Mark's ladies' man image. After mark graduated, he would run into Sarah at the gym and would pursue her casually with poems and love notes to which Sarah never responded. Finally, Mark stopped playing games and showed Sarah his sincere and genuine side -- a side that stole Sarah's heart.
When they finally started dating, tragedy hit both families. Sarah witnessed mark carrying his mother to the beach so she could put her feet into the water one last time before succumbing to breast cancer. Watching this, Sarah knew Mark was the one for her. And before Mark's mother passed, she told Mark not to let this girl go.
As the relationship grew stronger, tragedy tested their love once again. Sarah's father was struck with cancer for a second time. He's still fighting and Sarah hopes that this time around, the story will have a happy ending.
When Sarah graduated from college, she and Mark took a trip to France. On the last day of their trip, Mark popped the question, twice, since he was so nervous. The ring was in his sock. While he was busy getting it out, a flock of white doves just happened to take flight in front of them.
People say there are moments in life where you just know you're meant to be together forever, for Mark and Sarah, they've shared a few of these moments already and can't wait to spend the rest of their lives creating more.

I like Nick and Kim so far...but are there only four couples this time??
I'm curious, how do they get to do this? I always vote and I always ask Kristen to vote and then we talk about and discuss why we picked what we picked. This started about two years ago. When we were voting last year (right as were getting engaged) I mentioned that I wanted to do it next year, but I never figured out how.

Of the 4, none of which were great, I picked Mark and Sara. That Nick guy just bugged me.
I don't think that "nearly-wed" game was the best way to showcase the couples. Just my opinion.

I agree... I simply don't like corny, chessy stuff like that....
I agree with everyone about the couples...kinda just ho hum. I also agree that the "nearly wed" game was lame. I much prefer hearing about the couples background so you can kinda figure out why they might've been picked.
Nick and Kim I found a little annoying and maybe immature? Allen and Serrita are ok but it didn't seem like Serrita was getting the questions from the game. I just kept going "huh?" to her answers. It was a toss up for me between Brad/Lisa and Mark/Sarah. After reading the bios, I think I am voting for Mark/Sarah.
Larissa : usually about a month or so before they start the wedding series, they basically tell folks to apply. This year I think they had to send in a video (can't remember if they had to do that in years past) telling why they should be picked. This whole wedding series would prob only work for those who are newly engaged or haven't set a date yet, KWIM?
anyway, looking forward to seeing how everyone votes! :)

LOL!!! Me too! I think I picked bridesmaids flowers once that won and that's all! Never anything good like the couple, dress, rings, honeymoon, etc.
I never get to see this anymore because it's on too late in the show. Thanks Sarahh for the info.
I did happen to catch it this morning and wasn't too impressed with any of them. Makes me wonder how my DH and I would have done in a similar situation.
After reading the bios they seem a bit more interesting. I'm a sap for sad stories so I'll go with Mark and Sara too.

Totally agree. the bios were way more interesting than the show. I'm a sap as well. But I was also in NY on 9/11 so I really felt for Lisa losing her apartment and everything. Must have been devastating. Plus, I like that they are older for some reason.

I didn't see the show (which apparently was a good thing from what you are all saying), but I read the bios. Based on them, I'm split between Brad & Lisa and Mark & Sarah. I'm leaning towards Mark & Sarah. I mean, Mark carried his mother to the beach so she could put her feet in the water one last time. That makes me cry just to read it!!

I liked the Groom's band in Set #1, and the Bride's band in Set #2... but as a set, I vote for Set #4.
Edited to add... I liked the rings in Set #3, but I don't particularly care for yellow gold, which is why I didn't pick that one.
I voted for the Peter Storm. I the bride's ring from A. Jaffe, but not the groom's ring...squared just looks like it might be uncomfortable. The Raymond C. Yard ring looks like a lot of others I've seen around. The Scott Kay looks fake (maybe it's just the picture). The Peter Storm looked unique and yet classic at the same time.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050801_location_stmary_.vmedium.jpg
Sarah, her brother and her father are all alumni of St. Mary's College of Maryland. The college was established in 1840 and was recently ranked by the Princeton review as the second most beautiful campus in the country. It's charming grounds, historic buildings and beautiful scenic views of the St. Mary's River are the reason many alumni return each year to say "I do" in the Garden of Remembrance. Mark and Sarah's ceremony would be followed by a tented reception on one of the adjacent lawns or at the nearby 1676 State House in historic St. Mary's city. This was the site of Maryland's original colony and first capital, providing a historic backdrop for the event.
Evergreen House
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050801_location_evergreen.vmedium.jpg
The Evergreen House is an elegant estate, which offers a beautiful background for both the ceremony and pictures. The 48-room mansion was built in the 1850s and owned by the Garrett family, who was known for ruling the railroads in the mid-19th century. Sarah and Mark's nuptials would take place in the garden among the 26 acres of lush grounds surrounding the mansion.
The adjacent carriage house would give Sarah and Mark a rustic feel for their reception. The room opens up to a large patio allowing seating for 220. The unique aspect of this location is the old horse stalls, which can be used for different buffet stations. Today, the Evergreen House is on the National Register of Historic Places.
City Dock
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050801_location_citydock.vmedium.jpg
Annapolis has been the capital of Maryland since 1695 and is world-renowned as "America's Sailing Capital." It provides the best of both worlds for a wedding venue since it's a quaint historic city that also sits on the water. Mark and Sarah would say, "I do" at City Dock as boats sailed by in the background. This public park would be transformed into an intimate venue for Mark and Sarah, filled with flowers and surrounded by water views. Following their nuptials, everyone would celebrate Mark and Sarah's first morning as husband and wife aboard the Catherine Marie yacht, where both Mark and Sarah, and their guests, would be able to enjoy more of the breathtaking surroundings while partying and dancing under the clear blue sky.
Chesapeake Bay Beach Club
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050801_location_beachclub.vmedium.jpg
Mark and Sarah said they'd love to be married by the water and the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club offers them that opportunity in a more private setting. This venue is known for doing weddings. Mark and Sarah's ceremony would take place on a manicured lawn overlooking the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and a small private beach, which would allow for beautiful pictures on the sand.
This location offers a casual setting on the water for cocktails which opens out onto a boardwalk-like terrace. Then Sarah and Mark would be whisked into a grand ballroom, surrounded by windows, were their friends and family would join them in celebration while enjoying sweeping views of the Chesapeake Bay and adjacent marina.

Sarah and Mark said that they wanted be married by the water, so that eliminates the Evergreen House. Too bad because it is a beautiful location! That leaves St. Mary's, City Dock and the Beach Club.
I thought the City Dock location was all wrong. Although the St. Mary’s location would be nice since Sarah is an alum, I thought the venues for both ceremony and location looked a little ho-hum.
I voted for the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. Beautiful location and gorgeous venue!

I went for the sentimental choice of St. Mary's College. My second choice, though, would have been for the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. I just don't like that the bridge is right there. It's not like it's a pretty bridge.
I'm originally from Maryland & I can't really see getting married at City Dock. It's a cool place to hang out for sure, but it doesn't really scream romance. I think they'd end up having a lot of people there to get on TV and that kind of thing. The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club is quite far from St. Mary's where they are from - calling it their "hometown" is definitely a stretch!
I'm voting for the college!

All the other locations are about 2 hours away from Sarah and Mark's hometown. St. Mary's is about 20 mins.
I still would have chosen the Beach Club if I had known that though. It's still in the general vicinity of their hometown...not in NYC like past weddings planned by the Today Show.

The college doesn't look that pretty. I really like the Beach Club, but if it's about 2 hours away...
Is anyone from the college? Is that area pretty in real life or just as dull as it looks?

I voted for St Mary's since she went there and it is closer to home.
I'd call St. Mary's serene. I don't think it's dull really, but definitely pretty. There's a decent Amish population down there. So it's a calm, laid back, country kind of place. I'd say the Beach Club is probably at least 2 hours from where they are. I'm sure many people have had beautiful weddings there but it's kind of generic to me. Not to knock it though! I think for me or any other regular bride, it'd be fine. Some of the pictures are beautiful.
But for a wedding on TV... they can do better than the Beach Club. Does that make sense?

I was torn between the Beach Club and St. Mary's. I voted for St. Mary's for a few reasons: it's closer to home, it has sentimental value, it appears to also have some type of a water view (not sure if it is a lake, river, bay), it is a very pretty location.

I voted for St. Mary's because she went there as did other members of her family ... so basically that means the Beach Club will win.
I always go sentimental - at least her family has a connection to St. Mary's and thought with the river views it looked quite pretty...

that is the way that I have been feeling. Usually I get all excited to see it. I think that it has stunk this time.
i think part of the problem with having nicer venues to choose from is the amount of time given to plan this wedding in the hometown. i think when we all planned our weddings, we booked our location a year in advance. here, they only have 2 months. i know there are some really nice mansions in MD they could've had their wedding at that are just as far as the places they selected. but with 2 months notice, i'm sure all the super nice places aren't available. KWIM? i thought the hometown wedding idea would be a nice change, but i think i like the NYC wedding better.
i kinda agree w/ everyone about this being ho-hum. but maybe when it comes to the fun stuff (ie. dresses), we'll get into it more? :o

THE WINNING CHOICE
Three for three!! ;)

Angolique
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050808_dress_anjolique.vlarge.jpg
Vintage lace is a hot trend right now both on the fashion runways and in the bridal world. So the beautiful netted tulle overlay embellished with embroidered lace appliqués make this dress very stylish and perfect for a late summer affair at any type of reception site. This ivory gown has a slim, mermaid silhouette bodice that flows into a light chapel length train which adds a little bit of drama; and the gathering of tulle at the bodice is an extra flattering touch. This gown comes with three optional necklines; strapless, spaghetti straps or a halter. We've chosen the halter neckline, which is perfect for Sarah's shoulders.
This dress is best for hourglass and slender figures, also great for petite and tall brides. It should be avoided by apple-shaped bodies.
Justina McCaffrey
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050808_dress_mccaffrey.vlarge.jpg
Brides are always looking for a way to make their wedding unique and adding a kick of color to the gown is one way to stand out. The dual-toned platinum and gold duchess satin sash with the rose-toned, hand-beaded crystallized bodice brings out the palette of fall. This ivory silk dress has a beautiful straight a-line skirt, which won't overwhelm someone thin, like Sarah, who still wants to wear a traditional ball gown. And the tiny-jeweled straps give this dress a very flattering neckline.
This dress is best for petite brides who still want volume; the a-line is universally flattering with a wonderful slimming effect and gives a ball gown appeal to hide any problem spots underneath. It should be avoided by anyone too pear-shaped or too busty.
Amy Michelson
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050808_dress_michelson.vlarge.jpg
This is a very modern, feminine dress, which is sexy without revealing too much. This silk-chiffon bias cut sheath features a cowl neckline and delicate criss-crossing laces, which add excitement to the plunging back. This body-hugging dress is ideal for Sarah's tall, yet lean figure. It's perfect for an outdoor ceremony -- whether it's on the beach, the boardwalk or the grass -- and just the right weight for twirling around the dance floor with Mark.
This dress is best for tall, slender brides with nothing to hide. It should be avoided by anyone looking to mask problem spots
Amsale
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050808_dress_amsale.vlarge.jpg
This is for the glamorous bride. Amsale has created an ivory silk taffeta, strapless, "gathered" column dress. It's sophisticated, simple and sleek! A beautiful jeweled appliqué is fastened just below the dropped waist and brings you back to 1950s styling, now popular on the ready-to-wear runways. A trumpet skirt and dramatic chapel length train might just make Mark's jaw drop when Sarah walks down that aisle.
This dress is best for a taller bride with an hourglass or boyish figure. It should be avoided by anyone too pear-shaped or hippy.

But if it were MY wedding, I'd go for the Justina McCaffrey. :D
Um, why did they get four dresses that were good for four different types of figures? We don't know what the bride's figure is - I wouldn't want to put a dress on her that "wasn't for anyone with hips" if she has large hips. Odd.

This full-length, strapless, matte satin dress, with a princess line bodice and natural waist, features a trumpet skirt with a slight train that's perfect for walking down the aisle and partying the night away. This dress is flattering for all figures and compliments a woman's best features.

A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz
Inspired by Uma Thurman's gown worn to the 75th Academy Awards, this sophisticated and elegant sapphire-colored satin luxe evening gown offers an alternative to traditional bridesmaid attire. Thick straps sweep onto the shoulder to form a romantic neckline and continue to crisscross in the back, which creates a sleek and sexy look. With its knotted details by the bust line and hips, it hugs in just the right places, which hides any flaws and flatters any shape.

Oh gosh, the last one is terrible. I tried on a dress similar to that and at 5 ft 3 inches and 130 lbs I couldn't pull it off!! I can't imagine anyone larger than me wearing that style. I think you need to be a model to look good in it!
I like the first two, but voted for #1 - the Dessy one. I liked the colour the best and should flatter a fair amount of people (I hope).
I guess I didn't vote for #1 because, with my skin tone and hair, I would drown in that color (I'm traditional Irish Catholic - reddish hair, fair, freckled skin). In fact, I was in a wedding with that color and it was awful. Also, I noticed the model's stomach and hips in that. If a model can't pull it off, I'm not sure a BM would be able to.

I agree that it would look good w/ the wedding dress. I voted for #3, the Lazaro. I think it's the wrong color for an outdoor summer wedding at a marina, but in terms of formality it is the closest to the wedding dress, and it was the only dress that wasn't unflattering to the bm's butts.

With the bridesmaid's dresses, the colors are what had me not knowing what to vote for. I liked the style of the #3 dress, but not the brown color.
It seems to be that my #2 choices, except for the couple, are what gets chosen.
As for the groomsmen attire, I like the J. Crew, #4. I think the two black tuxes are just so stark, and the gray is too light. Is it the color of the bm dress that you guys object to, or the fact that it's inappropriate for an outdoor summer wedding? (I voted for it b/c it was the lesser of 4 evils.)

I think the color is gross, regardless of what season it's for! :o But seriously, I personally wouldn't want any deep dark color like that for an outdoor summer wedding.

I wanted #1 for BM dresses as well, I don't think it would be unflattering at all. Plus it really goes well with her dress. IMO #3 looks like somthing from the 80's!! Plus the color is the absolute opposite of that should be used for an outdoor summer wedding.

I saw the segment today and absolutely HATED the one I voted for (#4), it looks totally different to me from in the picture and loved the one that I said was my second choice, the Red Sleeve one (which, of course, is why I knew it would win). I'm actually quite happy with the tux selection.
Larissa

Elizabeth - none of the BM dresses were that great. I like the style and thought that it could be quite flattering, but I didn't vote for it because of it's colour. The brown colour for a summer wedding on the wedding is what threw me off! The style is also a bit formal for a summer, beach wedding. I could overlook the formality, but the colour, ugh, the colour.

THE WINNING CHOICE
Red Sleeve
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050822_grooms_3redsleeve.vlarge.jpg
A fresh spin on the typical tuxedo from Red Sleeve. This three-button notch lapel tuxedo is often seen on the red carpet at events like the Oscars and Grammys. It will be paired with a platinum four-hand tie and vest by Tissoni, for the groom and long ties for the groomsmen, giving the whole wedding party a formal and modern look.

The Today Show voters are really off with this one (IMHO).....the style of this tux is far too formal for a seaside/outdoor wedding. And although I really like the cut of the bridesmaid dress, I agree that the color is off.
Well, perhaps the cake, invitation and guest bag options will be more "on"!
Larissa
08-26-2005, 12:40 PM
Sdianems-I personally think that a lot of things are off with the seaside outdoor wedding. (No offensive to anyone who voted for these things, just my opinions) The dress is a ballgown dress. A ballgown by the sea? And brown for a summer wedding? I voted for the tux that won after missing the bride's dress and groom's tux. I thought that formality of all three should match each other at this point. But I do agree that the tux is too formal in general, there just weren't any better choices after going with a super formal bridal gown and super formal bridesmaid dress.
sarahh
08-26-2005, 12:49 PM
I can see what you all mean about this being a bit formal for an outdoor seaside wedding....BUT...I really see this wedding as more of a garden Wedding. Pics of the ceremony location...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/shancock/bryant1.jpg
I think that the formality of the wedding party attire is a bit more appropriate for a garden wedding than it is for a beach/seaside wedding, so I think it will work. I do NOT like the BM dress though...option one would have been much better!

I just hope that the couple has enough friends and co-workers influences rounding up enough votes that the couple gets what they want at the end of the day. Maybe they have told everyone who knows them that they want x,y,z and truly like the BM dresses.

Charm City Cakes

Main cake - "Swarovski Crystal Cake"
Groom's cake - weights
This spectacular four-tiered pumpkin chocolate chip cake has ivory fondant and butter cream icing. Sarah's wedding gown was the inspiration for this creation. In order to illustrate the sparkly and shiny feeling of her dress, Charm City Cakes suspended a variety of Swarovski crystals on several layers of the cake. And to compliment the bridesmaid dresses, three of the layers are adorned with black magic roses.
Fancy Cakes by Leslie

Main cake- "Flowers"
Groom's cake- "Bushel of Crabs"
More brides today are looking for unique wedding cakes and this offers a nice alternative to the "traditional" white cake. This is a delicate four-tiered chocolate fondant wedding cake with pink accents. The pink is used to personalize the cake and highlight the bodice of Sarah's gown. Each tier is filled with luscious butter cake and raspberry filling. A sugar vase and elegant pink sugar roses top the cake and can be removed and used as a keepsake for the Sarah and Mark.
Sugar Bakers Cakes

Main cake - "Presents"
Groom's cake - square cake with scenes of beach, surfboard, etc.
This is a four-tiered cake and each tier resembles a square present. The lid is finished in shimmering sanding sugar, and boxed with tiny handmade pearls in shades of gold, platinum and pale pink, inspired by the bodice of the bride's dress. The bottom of the lid is finished with a pale pink pearl edge, each placed individually by hand. The interior is a popular southern classic, red velvet fudge -- a rich, red, sour cream and cocoa cake filled with deep fudge icing. The cake is finished with a classic French butter cream and fondant icing.
Cakediva
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050830_cakes_cakediva.htease.jpg
Main cake - "Wedding Gown"
Groom's cake - Tuxedo
The suspended sugar straps defy the laws of gravity on this four-tiered exact replica of Sarah's wedding gown. The front and back have hand-piped sugar beading on the rose colored bodice and platinum edible glitter. The fondant covered a-line skirt shimmers with crushed pearls simulating silk, while the button-down back is gathered. This chocoholic's dream cake, rich with melted chocolate baked into the batter and fresh caramel butter cream filling, will make your guests clamor for more. The dual-toned gold and platinum fondant sash makes everything a cinch and adds the ultimate touch to this very personalized cake.

I don't get it. Normally the wedding is so pretty and dreamlike, but this year it seems as though nothing looks quite right. I like a lot of stuff individually, but together it just makes an odd combo.
But then again, maybe I'm just bitter. I've missed 4 things and only got 3.
I don't get it. Normally the wedding is so pretty and dreamlike, but this year it seems as though nothing looks quite right. I like a lot of stuff individually, but together it just makes an odd combo.
This is why I think one of the first votes should be for a wedding coordinator. It seems they ask individual designers for their choices and then put those choices from individuals up for selection. So you have the tastes of 4 indivduals each week. I would love to see the coordinator give the audience four complimentary choices based on the previous week's choices.

Elegant
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050904_wedhair_elegant_vert.htease.jpg
Sarah has amazing hair that is thick and beautiful. For this first look, Sarah's hair was separated into two pony tails on the top of her head. Then her hair was twisted to create coils and tucked over each other to form a bun. A few pieces of hair strands were left out of the bun so they could be curled to soften the look. Since decorative diamond studs are a new trend this year, the stylist added a few of them to Sarah's hair for detail. Sarah's dress has a gorgeous open neckline and this style helps to continue the line upward.
Victorian
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050904_wedhair_victorian_vert.htease.jpg
For this Victorian look, Sarah's hair was swept into a side part and braided. The braids were then crisscrossed around the back of her head. The ends of the braids were tucked and pinned to curl in. This Victorian look is accented by a beautiful cream flower since fresh flowers are huge right now. The flower not only adds a touch of originality to the hairstyle, but it also enables Sarah to still show a small wedding detail in her hair should she decide to remove her veil at the reception.
Romantic
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050904_wedhair_romantic_vert.htease.jpg
Louis thought it would be nice to show off Sarah's new length by wearing this soft, romantic look. The look was created by making a deep side part on an angle and sweeping the front piece before her forehead. Her hair was then tucked just before her ear. The rest of the hair is loose and covers the tuck. The sweep was accented with decorative pins. The ends are all curled with the curling iron. This is great because it's all down but the tuck helps protect her from having to fuss with it during the day. Even though 10 inches were cut, her hair is still considered long but now it doesn't hide the details of the dress ... which was the motivating factor in cutting the hair.
Modern
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/z_Projects_in_progress/TodayThrowsHometownWedding/050904_wedhair_modern_vert.htease.jpg
For a more relaxed feel, this look was created by teasing the front area for volume and pulling Sarah's long, thick hair back to create a ponytail at the center of her head. A few pieces of her hair were then pulled out of the pony and made into tight braids which were wrapped around the pony to add extra style and security. To add an element of softness, two pieces of hair were pulled out and curled to accent Sarah's face.

Wow. That cake choice was awful! The cake is nice enough, but not for this wedding. I think it's that most of us here have been around the wedding planning block recently so get the whole MUST-coordinate-the-details thing, but the general public is just going for their favorite without thinking about coordinating each aspect...
I voted for the elegent hair style (#1).
Wow - why did I get my hair done? I could've just taken a scrunchie (do they actually make those anymore?) and put it in a ponytail. And using a black scrunchie, it appears, is the way to go.

I've been following along and lurking in this thread, but agree that at least some of the choices are just odd. The color of the bridesmaids dresses was an odd choice, and though I missed the week of the cakes, that "little person" cake is just scary! As for the hairstyles, I like the first one, and even though the pics are small, it almost seems like her face is happiest in that one. I don't like the one with the braids and her smile almost looks forced in that one. I agree too, the ponytail is too casual. she has gorgeous hair, they should do something cool with it, and not just throw it in a ponytail. Even the romantic doesn't look special--Sarah's hair has looked better than that when she's just been on the show!
I agree with those who have said this wedding is just not up to par with years past.

It doesn't matter where the weddings are, the voters almost always pick the 'princess-y' gown and the most formal tux. Even the BM dresses are ultra formal.

And just when they thought it couldn't get any better, Mark and Sarah will enjoy a private helicopter tour of wine country over both Napa and Sonoma Valleys.

It doesn't get much more private and exclusive than this. Mark and Sarah will be whisked away to One & Only resort in Maldives at Reethi Rah, which occupies an entire private island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It's so secluded that the couple will take a 50-minute luxury yacht to get to the island. Mark and Sarah will spend nine romantic evenings in their own secluded water villa with private decks, lounge chairs and hammocks which float above the crystal clear water. They'll have a villa host available to them 24 hours a day to ensure their experience is a memorable one.
During their stay they'll be spoiled with private intimate dinners, relaxing spa treatments and yoga sessions along with private cooking lessons, tennis lessons, and wine tastings.
And if that isn't enough, Mark and Sarah will enjoy a private sailing excursion to reef fish, snorkel or scuba dive and a private yacht excursion to have a romantic dinner on a nearby sandbar.
Their stay will end with a renewing of their vows in a Maldivian wedding ritual where they will plant a palm tree to honor their wedding day. "Growing over the years, this tree will stand forever as a powerful symbol of the living, growing experience of all that marriage can be."
South America

This trip will offer Mark and Sarah an amazing journey to South America and the chance to visit the beautiful country of Chile. Mark and Sarah will explore the world's highest and driest desert and hike, walk and horseback by volcanoes, llamas, hot springs and Inca ruins.
They'll spend four nights at the Explora lodge in their deluxe room drinking the wines of Chile, sipping champagne, and indulging in acclaimed cuisine and relaxing massages.
Then it's off to the world's most remote island -- Easter Island, located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Here they will explore, hike and bike some more. Their guide will show them some of the 600 giant stone statues that dot the landscape. And as the sun sets over the crystal waters, Mark and Sarah will unwind over a private dinner at the Rano Kau Crater's edge and spend five nights at Casas Papa Nui.

I was torn between Africa and South America but eventually voted for Africa. It's just such a "once in a lifetime" experience, and so romantic. :)

Mark and Sarah seemed to have such a great reaction to the Africa trip -so it got my vote. They had some great trip options this year and I think I would have chosen Africa for myself, too.

I can't decide which destination to vote on. I'm looking up some of the hotels to see what they look like. Look at the Cape Grace Hotel that they'd stay at for 3 of the nights in Africa...

I voted for Maldives. It just sounds like the perfect honeymoon. All sound like beautiful trips, but for a honeymoon something so private would be wonderful.

I didn't get to see the show today so I'm not sure about their reactions for the trips. Each trip is so different and geared for a different type of couple.
I voted for #3 because I think relaxing and alone are too main things for a honeymoon. Plus the Maldives were the farthest distance away, and they may never be able to travel that far again.
All the trips sound AMAZING though different from one another!

I'm working from home today... I'm watching now. Trisha sang 'How do I live without you' (is that right?)... and they showed the wedding in 'clip' form... maybe they showed it in full earlier this morning and I missed it?
I didn't realize it was today that they were having it. I would have turned the tv on a lot sooner!
But the bride? GORGEOUS! The entire site looked beautiful... it was SO pretty... but all of that lighting kind of sucked some of the romance out of it... the camera lights were so bright!

Awww he cried through his vows!!
He said his vows and ended with, 'this is my eternal pinky swear'... it was so sweet and funny!

Yes, they showed the whole thing earlier, at around 8:15 EST. It was really pretty. But I still don't like the cake. It was all chocolate and white and then had PINK flowers on top. Looked stupid Ithought. But overall, pretty. And the pinky swear was kind of cute.
I didn't know the wedding was today either but managed to catch bits and pieces of it. Overall, I think everything turned out nicely even though I didn't vote for some of the choices. Sarah looked really pretty and the dress looked great on her (again, even though I didn't vote for that one)! Even the BM dresses didn't look too bad (still think the color is too dark for an outdoor summer wedding).
When Trisha Yearwood was singing, was she singing for the guests or were they random people? I thought they were guests but then some people were holding poster board signs up which I thought was weird. I even saw some older woman holding up a sign that said "Monica and Jeff are getting married" with a pic. of the couple and what looked like their engagement announcement from the paper. Thought that was a bit tacky considering the setting.

I wondered that about the concert. I thought it was rude to have signs at a wedding, but then it may not have been the wedding guests. I didn'tsee the couple, that was stranger...
