Has anyone had one done? Can you tell me about the procedure? Does it hurt more/less/about the same as an HSG?

Also, who would perform one, your RE or your OBGYN?

Thanks!

My RE did mine during my mock cycle, in preperation for IVF.

It definitly hurt less than my HSG. I went in expecting the worst, and it wasn't as bad as a thought it would be. Like the other poster said, it's like a PAP. My RE actually numbed my cervix w/ Lidocaine which stung just a bit. You will feel some cramping when they do the actual biopsy part, but it is quick.

Good luck to you!

My gyn did the biopsy. I haven't had a HSG, only sonohystograms and this was much worse (and nothing like any PAP I've ever had). I thought that it was very painful and unfortunately she had to do it 2x to get a good sample. It was the kind of pain where I was crying (despite trying to be brave) and thought I would pass out. I hope that yours is just uncomfortable and not painful. Remember to take Ibuprofin a little bit before you go in.

Unfortunately, my experience was just like honeygirl's. I have a tilted uterus, so the doctor thought maybe that was why it was so painful.

Honestly, mine hurt like hell. My HSG was very painful as well, but the biopsy was much much worse. After it was over, I took some vicodin and got on a plane to Disneyworld...LOL I cramped for the next few hours adn that part wasn't unbearable (with the vicodin), but yeah, the procedure itself was horrible for me.

Mine was performed by my RE to determine if I still had placental tissue from a missed miscarriage.

I did want to add that, by far, with any procedure that I've had, getting through the cervix is the worst part. Having your doctor numb it w/ Lidocaine is by far, the way to go.

I saw my OB/GYN today and she scheduled me for an endometrial biopsy. DH and I have been ttc for a year and nothing has happened so she wants to start with some tests.

Has anyone had this procedure done? How was it, what should I expect?

I had this done in my Ob's office. To be honest it was the most painful test/procedure that I had (also did HSG, SHG, D&C, etc). It didn't help that the dr needed to take the actual biopsy part twice (first time didn't get enough). I have heard other women say that it wasn't terribly painful, so it may have just been me!

Make sure to take pain relievers before you go and I'd have someone drive you. I was so upset after words that it made it difficult to drive.

Sorry if this sounds negative, I just wanted to be honest.

I had it done a couple years ago. My OB did it the day before AF was due (around 12dpo), and did a preg. test beforehand just to make sure I wasn't pregnant since it can cause problems if you are.

Honestly, it was felt like a really sharp pinch - kind of jerked me up from the table because I wasn't really expecting it. But it was over fairly quick and I didn't have the intense cramping with it like I did the HSG. Personally, I thought the HSG was a lot more uncomfortable. :)

Unlike the HSG, where I took the rest of the day off to lay on the couch, with the EB I was at work a few hours later. It probably wouldn't hurt if you took some pain relievers just in case.

Good luck!

Krissy, are you getting a referral to see an RE? This is a test that (like the PCT) is controversial and not all REs do it or believe in the results. So just in case, you may want to call the RE's office (if you're scheduled) to see if they agree with doing that test, before you go ahead and do it. We go through enough with infertility and testing, wouldn't want anyone to have to go through more tests than they need too, if you KWIM. ;)

And just a little unsolicited advice...if you are planning to go through testing, diagnosis, and/or treatment with your regular ob/gyn, I would strongly encourage at least consulting with an RE. They are also ob/gyns, but specialize in all this stuff so they'll be much more informed and up to date on figuring out and treating what's wrong.

I have this scheduled with my RE for next Friday. I am so nervous about it. He told me to make sure I take two advil before the procedure as there might be some cramping.

Is this the first test in your infertility work-up? If so, that's very odd.

To be honest it was the most painful test/procedure that I had (also did HSG,). It didn't help that the dr needed to take the actual biopsy part twice (first time didn't get enough). I have heard other women say that it wasn't terribly painful, so it may have just been me!
This. Word for word. I have a tilted uterus, so the doctor thought maybe that was why it was so painful.

I had it done yesterday and it was very painful. It was over in about two minutes but a very painful two minutes. My doctor had offered a numbing agent, but I didn't think I would need it. I wish I had taken it. Definitely take some Advil ahead of time. Id say three or four. Very minor spotting yesterday.

I'm good today. I little sore, nothing worse than a minor menstrual cramp.

Thank you for all your advice ladies! Good luck smellycats.

KrissyCat -Thanks for the good luck wishes! I am really dreading doing this after the way I hurt with the HSG.

Extremely so...even for REs who do them this shouldn't be the first test they do.

How did it go Smellycatsgirl?

How did it go Smellycatsgirl?

It went okay, but it was painful for me. Not as bad as the HSG, but it still hurt. I ended up bleeding for a few days afterwards, but I don't know if that was because we were moving my parents to their knew place or not.

Got my results back and they were abnormal. :( I can't remember the exact term he used, though.

Smellycat: Sorry to hear the news. Mine results were abnormal as well. My luteal phase was too short. My doctor started me on clomid and that seems to be really helping with my LP. I hope that your doctor is able to get you back on track very soon.
