Is anyone watching the CMAs? I'm blown away by the bitch that Faith Hill just made herself out to be during the presentation of Female Vocalist of the year. I'm not happy about that, because I really, really like her! :(

I'll put it in white since you haven't seen it yet, and it will spoil the winner of that award...

Apparently, she thought she had the award locked up, because when they had the camera on her backstage, right when they were announcing it, she started to throw her hands up with a big smile (apparently getting ready to accept her award), and when she realized they said "Carrie Underwood," she screamed "WHAAAT?!?" and then stormed off. It was HORRIBLE! What's really sad is how upset about it I am. I have this perfect image of her and her beautiful husband and now part of it's ruined. How obscenely embarrassing is that to admit? ;)

Wow, what a sore loser if Faith was serious!

At least you can tell from Carrie's acceptance speech, how much she really appreciated winning that award.

I saw it on Good Morning American. Wow! That's pretty messed up if she was serious. I wonder if she's going to try to explain herself and if so, what will she say? Hmmmm....how will she spin it?

She's saying that she was joking. Honestly, I believe her. It just doesn't seem in her nature to do that.

I think it kind of looks like she's kidding, but genuinely surprised that CU would win against all of those women, as am I. I don't think it was appropriate either way, though.

Susan
11-07-2006, 11:32 AM
I still don't think it was appropriate, even if she was joking. Kind of stole the moment from Carrie, IMHO. And I wouldn't have thought Faith was the type to joke like that either, but what do I know. ETA - It was just a little bizarre.

Adaya
11-07-2006, 12:24 PM
Damage control in full effect!! Of course she's gonna say that now. What else is she gonna say? "Yeah, I was pissed that the little American Idol beeyotch won!" LOL!!

I mean I think Faith seems like a pretty nice person. But who knows what people are "really" like?

jesvet
11-07-2006, 12:27 PM
The way she turned and mugged to the camera with an exaggerated expression sure looks to me like she was kidding, but she didn't really pull it off very well.

Susan
11-07-2006, 12:28 PM
LOL, good point Adaya! Guess she wouldn't really admit if she was upset, huh? I'm leaning toward thinking that it was her real reaction...if not, like I said, I think it's a bizarre "joke." I keep watching the You Tube clip, and it's really cracking me up!

ETA - You're right, jesvet, it is a really exaggerated expression that she gives to the camera. So now I really don't know if it's a joke or not. Either way, it's weird!

11-07-2006, 01:11 PM
I wonder if she was thinking, "Wouldn't it be funny if for once someone just freaked out when they didn't win?" Then she actually did it for a joke? It did seem like she was prancing around when they were reading the names as if she was anticipating the joke.

Or maybe she took some drugs or something. No one is perfect. I love her too, but I find the image of her and her husband to be ridiculous. As much as I would like to believe they are great, I don't believe it. To me, in the past years, whenever she talks about her husband, it just seems forced and IMO her eyes seem sad.

HeatherFL

I don't think she was joking. We're all human, we screw up. I think they're totally spinning it and the media and music industry is so invested in Faith Hill they're just going with her whole "it was a joke" story. Even if it was a joke (and I repeat I doubt it was) it was completely inappropriate and in poor, poor taste.

Re: Faith Hill

While I find it hard to believe someone of her caliber would be unprofessional and ungracious enough to enough to be POed like that on camera, I also find it hard to believe someone of her caliber would be unprofessional and ungracious enough to stage an attention-grabbing joke like that. Either way, it shows no class or consideration for Carrie's win.

I really want to believe that she was joking, but I just don't know that I do. It looked so real, like she was really, really surprised and pissed that she didn't win it. I've heard that she and CU were friends and that Faith and Tim's daughter is a really big fan of CU. I'd hope that if they really were friends that she wouldn't do something like that.

On a slightly different note, I'm so glad that I have *somewhere* to discuss this, since none of my co-workers even like country music, and my husband just rolls his eyes at any celebrity "news." When I made him watch it, he says, "ehh...who cares." Apparently, honey, I DO! ;)

I can't decide what to think about it. I'd like to think she was joking, and I agree that her gestures were quite exaggerated. I just don't know, though. If it was a joke, it was in very poor taste.

And, I think Carrie Underwood deserved the award. All three of her releases in the past year were No. 1's on the charts, and she's triple platinum. She has a beautiful voice! Actually, I was watching her reaction because I expected her to win, so I didn't see Faith's reaction until I looked it up on youtube after I heard about it on the radio this morning.

I don't know much about Faith but heard about this today. It sounds like most people respect her so IMO it would be better for her to own up to this as a lapse in judgement and showing her feelings, rather than saying it was a tasteless joke.

I think it was a joke. Faith is classy IMO and wouldn't do something like that out of spite or anger. It did seem like she was joking around before the award was announced so maybe it was just a play on that. Knowing the camera was still on her, I highly doubt she'd do it with mean intent. If she and CU are "close", I could find the humor in it.

Not at all classy. And for the record, I would like to add that I never thought she was all that classy anyway. A number of years ago (1995) she played a large country music festival in my area. It was actually the tour that her and Tim hooked up on. Anyway, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Blackhawk and a few other acts were on the ticket. I had backstage passes because I was on a dance team that performed pre-show. Anyway, Faith Hill acted like a total bit@h all day, especially anytime her path crossed with Martina McBride. She wouldn't let anyone even mention her name in her presence, making faces and rolling her eyes everytime someone did. She even took down every promotional poster and piece of paper in her line of sight that had Martina' name on it. It was really a very childish, immature way to act. I fully expected to see her running around with a pen drawing mustaches on Martina's face or something. Anyway, FWIW, I have never been able to look at her without picturing that behavior in my head. Granted, yes, she could have changed since then. After all, this was before she married Tim and had her babies. But ya know, I'm not a bit surprised at her reaction Monday night. Not a bit.

Hmmm....interesting Jimmysgirl. So maybe she's not so sugary sweet as she seems.

It could go either way. I saw it and if she were serious, I don't think she would've reacted right to the camera. If she were to say "WHAT?" it would've been to someone nearby, not to the camera, right?

Yup. But as I said, this was before her and Tim married, had babies and she became domesticated. I think that Faith felt like her and Martina were very much in competition with each other during the time period that I am referring to.

Regarding celebrities we tend to believe what the media feeds us unless we see otherwise (with our own eyes.) Reese and Ryan had that perfect relationship. Faith Hill is as sweet as pie...

Reese and Ryan had that perfect relationship.

I think they made it clear they didn't. They were always talking about how hard marriage was and how they were in therapy.

Personally I think it was a joke, I think she was playing it up while her name was called, and I think she didn't pull it off very well. Also even though I see it as a joke, I think it was still inappropriate because it took away from Carrie's moment.

Well, to me the MEDIA seemed to portray it this way despite their problems. And I read a couple of holier than thou interviews with her portraying them in this, "because we do this and we do that we're better than other couples" light she seemed to give off.

She obviously knew she was on camera. This isn't her first time at an awards show. I highly doubt she would badger her image over Carrie Underwood winning an award. And even if it wasn't a joke. I'm not trying to start something - by any means, but can you tell me why you don't think she deserved to be in that category? I'm just curious what your reasons are. :)

I think she deserved it. I don't think it matters that she was just some stupid reality TV show winner; she has an amazing voice. I know she hasn't exactly "paid her dues" like the rest of the women, but IMO, she had just as much right to be there as the other women. It was the Female Vocalist of the Year, and I think she was it! (I've loved Carrie since the second I heard her sing a Martina song on the Idol tryouts.)

I don't follow country music - but from what I know of Carrie's career (regardless of how short it is), she definitely deserved to be there. Take a look at this impressive rundown of the success of her debut albumThe large first week sales of Some Hearts made it #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and the biggest debut of any country artist since the advent of the SoundScan system in 1991. Some Hearts has since been certified Quadruple Platinum by the RIAA, and is the fastest-selling debut country album in the history of the SoundScan era[6] Carrie Underwood's first single, "Jesus, Take The Wheel" was released to radio on October 18, 2005. It received so much airplay that it debuted at #39 on the Billboard Country Chart in its first week, setting a record. It eventually reached #1 for 6 consecutive weeks, and was only two weeks shy of Connie Smith's record of an 8 week run back in 1964-1965. The single also debuted at #48 on the Billboard Hot 100 where it reached a peak of #20.

The album's title track, "Some Hearts" was released to pop music and adult contemporary radio. It received moderate airplay and made it to #12 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Top 40.

"Don't Forget To Remember Me," the third of Carrie Underwood's singles to be released to country radio, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Chart, as well as #49 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, it did reach #1 for a week on the Radio & Records Country Singles Chart. On May 24, 2006, Underwood returned to guest-perform on the fifth season of American Idol for a second time. She opened the show with the top 12 finalists with "I Made It Through The Rain" and took the stage later on to perform her newest single "Don't Forget To Remember Me".

Both singles "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Don't Forget to Remember Me" have earned number one spots in Christian radio countdowns. "Jesus, Take the Wheel" won the Gospel Music Association's award for best country single of the year.

Her fourth single released to country radio was "Before He Cheats". It is currently situated at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. "Before He Cheats" is the 100th number one from an American Idol alumni on Billboard - It is currently at #1 for Hot Country Songs.

Carrie's music videos for Jesus Take The Wheel and Dont Forget To Remember Me have both reached number one on CMT'S Top 20 Countdown. They, along with Before He Cheats, have also reached number one on GACTV. Dont Forget To Remember Me broke the record for number of weeks at the top of the chart with ten. Before He Cheats also made history by being the first video to make its debut at #1 on the GAC countdown.Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrie_underwood I'm usually not a fan of country music, but I recently listened to some of the tracks off her album and loved it!

Carrie Underwood definitely deserved to be in that category. I mean, there's paying dues, sure. But then there's the fact that (a) she has an amazing voice, (b) her record sales are beyond amazing, (c) she is extremely popular and has already established a pretty devoted fan following and (d) every single song she has released so far from her very first album has pretty impressive Billboard stats.

Not only did she deserve to be in that category.....she absolutely deserved to win it as well!!

11-09-2006, 08:29 AM
See, I look at the reasons that are being posted as definite reasons that she won the Horizon award. That award is specifically tailored for the newcomer who just blows away the competition.
I just feel like, even though I love Carrie, they were comparing apples to oranges in that category.
Carrie is awesome and has the potential to be this generations "Reba" for country music. I just don't feel it is appropriate for someone to be Horizon winner AND FV.

rene'
11-09-2006, 08:31 AM
I definately think she deserved the Femal Vocalist of the Year Award. Who cares if she's a newcomer? After looking at all of her accomplishments for the year, she deserved both awards.

HeatherFL
11-09-2006, 01:32 PM
Because if you deserve both, you should get them both.

Look at Christina Aguilera. Regardless what you think of her-(I'm not a big fan, but SO LOVES her lol) she has an AMAZING voice and won a Grammy at, I believe, the ripe old age of 14. She is most certainly a better and more powerful singer than women who've been around for ages, like say Madonna. Celebrity, age and "paying dues" doesn't necessarily mean better. Not that Faith Hill is not a great singer. But Underwood did a better job this time around regardless of their career histories and she was recognized for that. Same with Leann Rimes when she has been awarded time again over women who have been around longer-this includes Grammy's, CMA's, Billboard Music Awards and so on.

I guess we'll never know for sure the truth, but if she is a supporter of Carrie, you'd think that when her name was called she would have been surprised and overjoyed for her- and smiled- instead of what looked like a sincere negative reaction. Not really the appropriate time for a joke!

I totally agree w/ all those who say that a lot of times the image portrayed may not be so accurate...after all, didn't we all think Britney & K-Fed looked like the perfect family? Who knew! :p ;)

Not that this really matters, but she was 20 when she won the Grammy for best new artist. I looked it up because I didn't think she was that much younger than me. ;)

Sorry, I guess I was confusing her with Leann Rimes who won at age 14 in 1997. :o But I stick by the fact that Christina was young and not as "seasoned" as far as paying dues went and deserved to win based on talent alone.
