We never signed a contract but when we were looking to buy, we worked with one realtor. She took us out about 3 times, but after that her child became ill and she's been at the hospital tending to her daughter the last couple of months.

We just got a letter in the mail from her the other day saying that her life is chaotic still, but a little more stable. It's been about 2 months since we've been in contact with her. During that time we decided we were no longer interested in buying.

As a courtesy do I tell her we are not longer looking to buy, or do I just leave it be? Should we change our minds I'm not entirely sure I'd want to look at houses with her again. She didn't really grasp what we were looking for even after explaining it to her again and again, and she was very discouraging with the houses we liked, I think because she wouldn't make as much commission from them.

I just want to make sure I do the right thing.

Thanks!

I think it would be polite to drop her a note or leave her a message letting her know that you are no longer looking for a home.

I would just drop her a little note that says:

Dear BreakersTrio's Realtor,
Thanks for your time in helping us look for a home. We have since decided that now may not be the best time for us to buy. We will keep you in mind in the future should we decide we are ready to purchase a home. We wish you well and hope your daughter continues to get better.

Regards,

yes, you need to let the realtor know, since this is the main way they make money. then the times the used in helping you look can be put towards someone else. when i stopped looking im my contract it said i had to write a note, but i just called and explained that i needed a break and all was ok.

Thank you, ejs, lml, & kandi! I'm going to draft up a little note right now.
