DS is 15 months old and has very dry skin. We tend to only bathe him a couple times a week tops to keep the dry skin problem to a minimum. We had been using just straight up Johnson's Baby Lotion on him, but it doesn't seem to be working.
When I picked DS up from daycare today, his hands were super chapped. The teachers said that they had been washing the kids hands a lot (yay!) due to cold and flu season and that was the reason for the chapping.
Can anyone recommend a great lotion or cream to use on DS to solve the flakey skin and chapped hands problem? Anything in a tube or bottle that's portable would be a plus. TIA!

DD has dry skin/excema. Her ped recommended Cetaphil cream (not lotion) and Cetaphil soap for washing. It has kept the excema in check and the skin is somewhat in check. If I used it more diligently it would be fine.
You can buy generic Cetaphil at Rite Aid for $2 and at Target for $6 and the name brand for $10.
It will be interesting to see what other people say.

When my DS was 3 or 4 months old his hands got really chapped and raw from him sucking on them. I used that Lansinoh 100% lanolin on them and they healed up overnight just about. Plus it's safe if they get it in their mouths since it's for breastfeeding.

I use Baby Aveeno for general moisturizing and Baby Aquaphor for the really bad dry spots.
Another vote for Cetaphil cream, fyi I recently found it at Costco cheaper than Walmart!

I use the generic Cetaphil lotion from Rite Aid for myself and like it. Also like Aveeno's hand cream.

We use California Baby lotions most of the time- it's really moisturizing and great for sensitive skin. I also use Kiehl's baby lotion from time to time, but it's not as moisturizing as the CA Baby.

Nivea. The nurses used it when we were in the hospital and we've been using it ever since. It works great!

I lube up my eczema-prone DD with Aquaphor twice a day. It's messy, it's greasy, and it's more expensive than I'd like it to be, but boy does it work.

I am not a mom but i adore this lotion by a company called BabySilk. www.mdmoms.com it was created by a family friend and it smells sooooo good, very light and fresh and its made with all natural materials. it is a little expensive however ,but a little really goes a long way!

Eucerin Cream has worked very well for us. It seems to work fast too.
Aveeno works okay for us.

We use regular, unscented Aveeno on DS. Our ped told us to use that or Eucerine, but I found Eucerine was greasier and just used the Aveeno I was already using on myself. :)

We use California Baby for general moisturizing and Aquaphor for bad spots.
We found J&J terribly drying, and DS seems to have "normal" skin.

Do ya'll use these same lotions on DC's face or do you use something different? I've noticed that DD's cheeks are beginning to look chapped (maybe from washing her face so often since we've started solids?). And what do you use on the hands of babies who are always putting them in their mouths?

Our favorites: Nivea cream for "normal" dry skin. Eucerin for really dry, and Lansinoh for chapped/cracked dry skin.

When Cetaphil cream isn't enough, we use Aveeno Soothing Relief Moisture Cream - http://www.aveeno.com/detailAction.do?id=3913. It works great on his rough dry skin & isn't sticky. He always gets compliments on his soft skin. . . little do they know!

Also a excema prone child, we like aveeno products. I also just found a product that looks like a little stick of deoderant from J&J that is a lotion balm type thing for cheeks, etc. Last week DD had a really chapped upper lip and a couple days of that it went away. Will be good for winter protection.

DD has very dry skin and excema. I use Aveeno lotion and Aquaphor on the really dry patches. For the excema I use Cortaid ointment and sometimes a prescription hydrocortisone if the OTC version isn't kicking the flare-ups.

Question regarding lotions/skin products for a baby with so-called "normal" skin. I have never put anything on DS's skin but am considering now that it is winter. Would you recommend doing this or not?

I realized, after this post was bumped, that I didn't come back to report. We ended up getting some Aveeno lotion which worked like a charm. We also bought the J&J stick balm that solongtogo mnetioned. We've used it numerous times on DS's cheeks and tops of hands. It worked very well too.
Thanks for all of the help, ladies!
