I ask this because my company has a division where we do public relations for authors and publishers. It's funny because I run into soooo many people who say they have always wanted to write about something.
Have you ever considered writing a book? What kind and why?
ME:
I am tempted to write a "tell all" book on the book industry for those who want to self publish and what things they need to be aware of to try and make it successful.

I have written a book! Mind you I was a teenager, and it was never published, and probably isn't of the best quality.
I love writing and if I had the opportunity, would get something published. I actually created my own wedding organizer and would like to submit it to a few publishers.
Yes - I am a daydreamer, and I am constantly thinking of ideas for books. Used to be that I would only think of realistic fiction, but now I am thinking of some ideas for non-fiction. No more details. I can't give away my good ideas, can ??? ;)
My mother has written several books. She has written a few books to a children's novels series. She hasn't had any luck getting them published though. hopefully, someday because she is good and is quite diligent about working on them.
I've toyed with it. For as long as I can remember, folks have told me that I have a book in me (it happened again a few months back). Funny though, I hear that and know it to be true, but I have NO idea what I'd even write about.
My friend's husband is about to be published. He's being touted as the next Stephen King and the pubs are lovin' him, big time. I can't wait to read it. Another friend's sister wrote a chick lit book (which was published this year - but I've yet to buy it because I can't find the dratted email - I'll ask her agian on Wed)

Yes! It is number one on my "list to do before I die."
The only problem is, I don't want to write some piece of pap. I want to write a classic, of course...and I don't know if it's in me :(

I'd love to write a book. Definitely non-fiction, something autobiograhical. I also have a great idea for a children's book series. No Harry Potter in me, but something cute for little kids :p

I've been toying with the idea of writing a book for children. Something simple, but I'm not the world's best writer so we'll see what happens.

We had to write childrens' books in one of my school english classes. I had a concept of one since I was really little and tried to develop it. It was horrible. :)
What I've really always wanted to do was to combine my love of cemetaries and my photography into a book. Someday...

I actually have a binder full of chapters that I don't have the nerve to send in because I fear the rejection.

You have to go for it!
If you're rejected then go to another publishing company.
I'll cheer you on!
GO!!! GO!!!!
GO!!!! GO!!!!!

I am not a writer, but my brother is. He's written poetry and short stories since his early teens (he's now 31). He is working on an outline for a book, and I gotta say that his first couple of chapters had me hooked! A friend of ours read it (not knowing my brother wrote it) and was amazed when he found out. I hope he continues to work on it, I can definately see it working out for him. Then he can support his sister. :D :D

I would love to write a book, as the idea of tackling such an ambitious project is just so inspiring and captivating. Unfortunately, the reality of actually writing one would be tough--I don't have any idea what I would write about. :)

i first got the idea to write a book in college. i took a short writing class for the easy grade and at the end of the quarter the teacher pulled me aside and told me to give serious thought to doing a book. i still remember that moment so clearly.
i am now giving a lot of thought to writting a book about my experience as an event planner. semi-true stories that are embelished a tad mostly meant to be funny. i've started writting a chapter and hope to have a book completed in 9-11 months. once it's done i have no idea how to go about sending it to publishers but i'll give that more thought after 75 percent of the book is done.

In college I started putting together a book of "guy stories" written by a variety of woman. I had planned on tying all the stories together with chapers and topics and writing many of my own. Instead I met DH and stopped disliking guys so much ;) I still have huge files saved on my computer though.

I've actually written 2 books, though I would never ever show them to anyone. (Even DH only knows that I've started one of them. Oh I love the anonymity of CC!) I love to write, but I know that it will always be just a hobby for me. :)

That was a huge dream for me when I was younger. Then I realized that I wanted to write the best novel ever have been paralyzed ever since :o .
I have written short stories and used to keep a list of story/book ideas but I'm not so great on the follow through. Had some fun Munschian children's book ideas, similar in tone to the Green and Purple Fart (I can't remember if that is the actual title or not...). Then have been drifting more toward non-fiction ideas but as for actual work?
None at all.
Dreaming is fun

I've been working on a short story and another book for a couple of years now. I also write poetry.
I just finished a short fairy tale types story that I plan to expand into a collection of stories. Someday I might try to get them publsihed but for now they just sit in my binder.

I would LOVE to write a book! My cousin recently landed a literary agent and is working on finding someone to publish her book. She wrote a series about a jewel thief. I'm also related to Margaret Mitchell (author of Gone With the Wind), so there's gotta be a book in me somewhere, right? ;)

Yes, I would love to and will in fact, attempt to get published some day, despite my fear of the rejection or that editors will hack it. I have a dozen ideas, I'd love to write about everything, but I'm leaning toward semi-auto-biographical fiction or metaphysics. :D

I would love to write a cookbook in addition to a few other ideas I have up my sleeve.

I'm in the middle of writing one. Most people I meet tell me I should write a book about my life. It's been crazy, beautiful, ugly, AMAZING. :D I met Susan Roanne (NY Times Bestseller) in Sonoma, CA a few years ago-we were both speaking at an event. We got to talking and she encouraged me to write one. I told her I wasn't quite ready-because when I did it, I was going to write EVERYTHING. At the time, there were certain things I wasn't ready to write about. Now, I am...so it's a work in progress. :)

Asha: I hope you can get past your negative opinions and get your books out there. Have you gotten any opinions from friends or acquaintances, or someone who might give honest feedback?
HeatherFL: I must admit, I'm really intrigued about your life now! :)

I've had a couple ideas on the back burner for years - just not enough time! I'm seriously thinking about writing a cookbook though...and my aunt has a connection to a publishing firm in NYC. So MAYBE someday.....
I did attempt to do NaNoWriMo (http://www.nanowrimo.org/) last year - but again, lack of time prevented me from getting much of anything written.
Heather - cool! Do you have a working title yet? :)

I have written a self-help type book but have never submitted it. During the summer I did send in 3 small portions of it to a magazine and they decided to publish 2 of them as articles. It has given me courage but I still need to get it more organized before I go further.
My real dream is to write a novel. I have the beginnings and complete storyline in my head, I just need to focus to put it down. I need to develop the characters more. I want them to be "real" to me first. I always joke that I am going to make it on Oprah. :D

Being a published author is one of my life goals. I want to write children's books. I have a bunch of short stories started. I have an idea for a children's series with the first installment almost finished.
Unfortunately, I haven't had the time or energy to write since having kids.
One day......

Well, not to toot my own horn, but it's been a pretty crazy and amazing ride. I'm very lucky and I've seen my fair share of ugliness, but the beauty makes it all worth it.
Kerrie I don't. I have a few ideas, but I know it will JUMP at me and be one of those things I'll just know when it hits me.

The managing editor of a Latin American travel guide company wrote me the other day and asked me to submit a story I had pitched to them last week. I was also asked to submit photographs for their upcoming guide on Colombia. I'm pretty stoked about it! :)
