I thought we could share the web addresses of smaller or boutique online retailers. For clothing, baby bags, nursery accessories, slings, birthday invitations or anything that is more unique than the big chains carry. Please add the weblink, and I'll compile the links on this first entry

Anemone: Huge favor to ask! There is a thread for home stuff and the person who started it made sure all the links were compiled in the first post. Would you be willing to do this because there are so many cool things out there and it would be great to be able to come to the first page and find the links without having to go through all the posts. I know I am asking a lot, but I thought I would just give it a shot. Maybe the moderator might even make it a sticky like the home thread. TIA!

Thanks mgrace - it's added to the front page. You could try PMing Can't Wait about the Not Just Rocks site.
You reminded me of another one to add for labels: www.stuckonyou.biz (https://www.stuckonyou.biz/usa/index.html)
They do great personalised name labels that are dishwasher and microwave proof, iron on clothing tattoos and shoe dots and cute bag tags. Perfect for day care or playgroup outings. You can select size, color and an icon (such as a frog, or dinosaur etc) from a huge range to add to the label. Very cute.
Unfortunately their website is all in flash, so I can't add a picture

PLEASE DELETE ALL PHOTOS ASAP!!!
This opens the site up to a multitude of copyright violations. You may use as many links as you like, but NO photos.
We will delete any and ALL posts with pictures by the end of today! This is nothing personal, this is THE LAW!!!

That is quite unfortunate b/c I think threads are boring w/o pictures. :( Who wants to go to a million links?
That is quite unfortunate b/c I think threads are boring w/o pictures. :( Who wants to go to a million links?I agree, it surely wouldn't be as easy to breeze through, but at least the links make a great resource. And well, you could always purchase the products you like and then model them on your own child and upload those pictures. Or you're more than welcome to take it up with the Federal government. But I think I'd much rather follow the law - call me silly.
And if that doesn't work, then you're more than willing to take it all on to a private LJ/site in your name so when the vendors come knocking at your wall (they will and they already have here on CC) you can deal with them personally. We've gone over this before in this forum, and as I've said, it's nothing personal, just the law.
EVERY image I deleted was hotlinked (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotlinking) or stolen from another site!!! Copyright is... (http://www.whatiscopyright.org/) a protection that covers published and unpublished literary, scientific and artistic works, whatever the form of expression, provided such works are fixed in a tangible or material form. This means that if you can see it, hear it and/or touch it - it may be protected. If it is an essay, if it is a play, if it is a song, if it is a funky original dance move, if it is a photograph, HTML coding or a computer graphic that can be set on paper, recorded on tape or saved to a hard drive, it may be protected. Copyright laws grant the creator the exclusive right to reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute, perform and display the work publicly. Exclusive means only the creator of such work, not anybody who has access to it and decides to grab it.
Katy: Thanks for the reminder on the copyright issue. We all need to respect the hard work of others.
With respect to the links. I personally love having this as a place to return as a reference. Same with the Home thread with all the links. This way my favorites folder doesn't get too out of hand. Anyway, I hope the whole copyright thing doesn't keep people from posting more of their fun links because I really appreciate them! :D
anemone
02-07-2007, 05:46 PM
I'm a bit sad we can't put the images on.....I understand that it's the law, but I would have thought that the owners of the websites would have been happy with the free advertising as they are generally more boutique scale producers.....and from that point, if they are credited with the weblink I don't see why they'd have a problem with having the images posted (like when you quote from a book for a college paper - wouldn't this come under the category of "Fair Use" that Katy posted the copyright link to above?).
Anyway, it is what it is, we can't post them, so I hope others will continue to post their links as I've found it really great to see what others have found:)

It's not just the boutiques. It's 99% probable that the images on those websites do not BELONG to the boutiques. They hired professional photographers to take those images and purchased usage rights to them. But they do not own the copyright - the photographer does. So regardless of whether or not the boutique wants the hotlinking done (which, BTW, uses their bandwidth which they have to pay for every time someone opens this thread) the images most likely do not belong to them and therefore they cannot give permission for them to be hotlinked.
And don't discount the cost of bandwidth - if the boutiques are paying for the bandwidth hits they take every time this thread is opened ... they may NOT be happy to have their products linked here because it's costing them money.

Just so this thread doesn't turn into a discussion/ argument about copyright more than it already has, I asked a question about this issue in the "Board Questions and Forum Suggestions" section, to which the Mods responded. It cleared things up for me, so if you're interested look there....otherwise we'll try to return the remnants of this thread back to its original topic:)

They do prints, and will customise with your DC's name. A great alternative to having wall letters, and the artwork is soooo cute! I got a set of 4 for DS's room, one having his name on it, and the other 3 coordinating.

Another new one....a toy store with great european toys, and an especially good range of play food (I've just bought DS a whole heap, including a hard-to-find tea set that isn't girly and won't break or squash:rolleyes:). DS is big into his play kitchen at the moment.

ooooh. I like that site Lilo thanks! It stocks some great toys as well as clothing and other things. It's also got the Fusseneger baby blankets, which were my favourite for DS when he was little. And I used to love the little padded Catimini outfits for DS in winter when he was little - so cute!
I am anxiously awaiting my - I mean DS's;)- new kitchen stuff from moolka.
anemone: Wow, there are some very cool play kitchens on Moolka. I especially love the "play shop with ranges" one from Erzi! Which one did you end up buying for your DS?

Lilo I bought the kitchen off eBay, but a similar one is on this site and is this small German made one (http://www.treasuretrovedirect.com/productdetails.asp?ID=82). I like it because it isn't girly for DS, and is also quite small, so is fairly unobtrusive. Also, it came with a whole heap of pots, pans and play food, so I thought it was great value. I bought DS the Ezri tea set, breakfast set, and a couple of other bits and pieces, including the Haba tea bags and sandwich off Moolka.
Thanks for the new link mgrace - great site for more toys!

Thanks for the links Cosmic , Magrat & lilo. I've added them to the front page. Lilo, that is the cutest dinosaur tee - I'm going to have to get one for DS:D
Haba toys. Well, suffice it to say that I have developed somewhat of an obsession with european wooden toys:rolleyes:
This has ended up with me shunning all plastic toys (which, with the current recalls, isn't such a bad thing). DS has some Haba play food, which is so cute, and he loves it (especially the pizza and sandwich).
I found the prices on Moolka the best, with Oompa a close second. Their prices are all better than real life shops, especially if you buy enough to qualify for free shipping....which isn't hard:cool:
I think I'll probably buy more Haba once he is older (they have great games).
Other brands that we love are Pintoy, and Plan Toys (especially the Plan City range, which fits in with his Brio train set - he has the parking garage at the moment, and for his birthday will be getting the road set, airport and various vehicles). Erzi is also a new favourite for the food. My stuff arrived from Moolka on Monday, and DS has been busy "feeding" his bear all sorts of things ever since:)

savannahgrl: no problem. I'm not sure if you're in Australia, but if you're not, I highly recommend ordering it from here: http://www.kidostore.com/ It's an Australian website but very easy to navigate and I had no problems ordering for a U.S. address. Arrrrgh. Why did you make me go and have a look at their website lilo?
I have totally fallen in love with Cocoon couture's new coat rack tree thing. It will look so cute in the nursery I'm doing as I have some bird counting cards that I am framing and will work in perfectly. Now I just have to get the $490 price tag past DH......
hee! Sorry anemone! I'm a bad influence when it comes to shopping. ;) I love that tree. Gorgeous and yikes, that is a high price. I wish I knew someone who make things like that!
anemone: While we're on the subject of shopping, I'm thinking about buying DS a nice, wooden grocery store. Didn't you mention in this thread that you had bought your DS something like this? Where did you buys yours? I would buy a wooden kitchen set but DH doesn't like that idea for some reason. But of course what does DS love to play with at daycare? The kitchen set!!! :p

lilo I bought DS a very small kitchen set when he was around 15 months old. He LOVES it. I looked everywhere to find one that was gender neutral, and smaller in size (as I wasn't sure if he'd like it, I didn't want it to take up much space). It comes complete with the wooden utensils and food you see in the image:
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff25/anemone_09/kitchen.jpg
It is around $80
I also found the playshops that I am coveting:
This one
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff25/anemone_09/shop2.jpg
or this one
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff25/anemone_09/shop.jpg
But they are both around the $200 mark, so more of an investment than the kitchen.
These are all at moolka www.moolka.com (http://www.moolka.com). I bought my kitchen set from an ebay seller as I got some $ off it, but honestly, the price is worth it for all the extras you get.
those are great! thanks for posting them. DS is 15 months and of course nothing really holds his attention very long so I'm wondering now if I should wait a few months to get a play grocery store. Maybe I'll get one for his 2nd birthday present. I love that 1st playshop you posted.
Oh! I have another great website recommendation.

I've just bought a sleep sack from Merino Kids (they call it their go-go bag). They are a New Zealand company that make merino wool and cotton sleep sacks. Much nicer than ones made of or with polyester as they are breathable and so work summer or winter. They also fit from 3 months to 2 years, so you don't need to buy so many sized ones. And, they have a vent in them to pass through a buckle for the carseat or stroller, so you can transfer them from car to crib really easily.
www.merinokids.com (http://www.merinokids.com/default.aspx)
They also make merino wool pj's and pure cotton pj's as well.
