DD who is 3months old has had a cold for going on 3weeks now. It started out with runny nose and coughing and now she has been severly congested for almost a week. I have taken her to the ped twice and they keep telling me it will go away.

So far, I have her sleeping on an incline, using saline drops and suctioning her nose, used decongestant spray (rec from ped), running the cold mist humidifer and none of it is helping. I think it's also affecting her sleeping and nursing as she can't breath through her nose. The ped checked out her ears and lungs and said that she was fine.

Any suggestions/tips? Should this be going on for this long? I feel very bad for her and she needs to get more sleep too.

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue with colds in our house lately. My DD#2 and DS both have had long-lasting colds. DD's has been going on 3 weeks too. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do. As long as her lungs and ears look good, it seems like there's a virus that likes to "hold on" for a while out there recently.

It sounds like you're doing everything perfectly! I just wanted to offer some sympathy! I hope she gets better VERY soon and gets some much needed sleep.

Hey, there -

Just wanted to drop you a note to say you're not alone! My DS, who is now almost 10 months, was congested and coughing almost non-stop from 7-9 months. (He'd had it off and on when he was younger, too, but this was the worst!). I got so tired of green crust on his nose, and of cleaning up puke when he coughed so hard that everything came back up. :( We had him sleeping in his swing or on me the entire time.

I'm confident that ours stemmed from the germ factory (aka daycare), but he seems to be able to fight stuff off a bit better now. And the ped assures me that him being sick so much now means he'll have better immunity to stuff as he gets older. I have to bite my tongue to tell him I don't really care!

It gets better, I promise!

Thanks....Have to say it makes me feel better that I'm not the only one going through this. I hope this passes soon. Her sleeping sucks these days!

My DD (13m) has had a cold for 3.5 weeks too! I even took her in to the ped (which I hardly ever do) and everything was clear. She just said to keep up with the nasal spray/drops, humidifier and lots of liquids. It is so hard, but the ped said that the runny nose/dry cough can last for 6 weeks!
