my 4yo has decided that picking her nose is wonderful.:o  We have instuted a code word to alert her to her actions and require her to wash her hands (with soap) after each time that we catch her picking her nose.

I was wondering a couple of things

1. any one have any tricks to help STOP the nose picking

2. her nose is so raw and irritated is there anything we can put on her nose (near the septum and her upper lip) to help soothe it?

I think bringing her attention to the behavior is the best thing you can and explaining about germs, etc.

As for treatment- saline nasal spray to keep the nose moist (you can't over use the stuff) and a little antibacterial salve (triple ointment, neosporin, etc) right inside where it's sore should help.

As a reformed childhood picker myself, i can tell you that what stopped me cold was other kids calling me on it.

Probably not the easiest thing for my parents to watch, but it worked.

Thanks for the advice, the "problem" seems to be diminishing. She seems to have and adversity to tissues but we've bought her SEVERAL packs of her very own and although she loves them it's still a heckuva workout to get her to use. I imagine it'll go away soon.
