Does anyone have any tips/tricks/ANYTHING to help keep poop in a diaper? DD has been dealing with diarrhea for a few weeks and we're monitoring it with the ped, but in the meantime she is RUINING clothing. Everything comes out the back of the diaper at the top. She does this several times a day so I feel like all my time is spent changing her outfit, crib sheets, blankets, giving her baths and doing laundry. It IS getting better, but it still seem to travel up her back and soak into her clothes and whatever she's laying on.
We've tried Pampers Swaddlers, Target and WalMart diapers so far and none work better than the other. In the past we've tried Luvs and Huggies but she always seems to leak out the leg, so I haven't tried them this time.
Oh, she is about 14 pounds and in size 2's... way too early to move her to 3's I assume? Size 3 is 16+ pounds and she's pretty lean.
ANY tips would be appreciated - I'm so tired of cleaning poop off everything.

No advice from me. I've actually been wondering if I need to move DD2 from Huggies size 2 up to size 3 because I've had a couple blowouts and they seem snug. But she's short & round, not lean. I had horrible luck with Pampers and haven't tried any other brands. I think she's about 13.5-14 pounds.
I would move her into size 3's. I moved DS into 3's before he was 16 pounds. He would leak out or blow out of the size 2's all the time .
my DD was also moved a size up way before the weight suggestions. it always helped contain poops. once we had poop explosions again it was back to moving up one size.

I moved DD into size 3's when she was 14 lbs, but she is a little chubby. Maybe try a small pack of the 3s?

I guess I have my answer. I'll finish up the pack of 2s I have and then get some 3s.
Jules, what brand did you like best, since you have a chubster, too?

Actually, you're not too early at all for size 3....I really would move her up. I bet 5 bucks this will solve your blowouts

Cloth, it solved my blow out the top problems. :)

Now that I think about it, I moved her from 1s to 2s when she was still within the weight limits for 1s.

Buy a few cloth diaper covers that have elastic banding at the top - like Proraps, you can get them pretty cheap. And put those over her disposable. The covers will get dirty, but the clothes won't. You could also try the elastic waist gerber covers/plastic pants you can buy at the store.
We go up a size as soon as we notice the poop moving up the back.

We liked Huggies Supreme the best. But, since those are costly, I've been buying the Kirkland diapers from 1-800-diapers.com. (ETA - I don't have a Costco membership.) They are shaped exactly like Huggies Supreme diapers, but much cheaper.

You know, I have been thinking about cloth lately since I figured they'd contain everything better. I'll have to look further into it.
In the meantime, guess I'm off to the store to buy a pack of size 3's. :) It makes sense, since she seems to have a long torso and her current diapers seem so short (which is probably adding to the problem).
Thanks ladies!!

One more thing you might try, if the bigger size and other suggestions don't help are doublers. Essentially they are sanitary napkins to put in a diaper. They could help asorb the extra liquid, if that would help the problem at all.

Baby Oxiclean might help get the stains out of the clothing...it's been working well for me.
