I am due in January and we are looking to spend a night or two at a nice country inn or B&B sometime in early December and get into the "holiday spirit". I am looking for a nice inn somewhere within the Mid-Atlantic (probably within 3 hours of DC) that we can go to, maybe see some nice historic houses decorated for the holidays, have a nice dinner, and just basically relax. I know about Williamsburg, VA but my boss just went and he was not pleased with how "commercial" it seemed so I don't know. I like Charlottesville, VA a lot so that is a possibility. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! :)

Would you consider heading up to Newport, Rhode Island? Only a 1 - 1.5 hour flight from DC.
It's a beautiful community with TONS of wonderful B&B's and great restaurants. They also have a whole area, Bellevue Avenue, that has several turn of the century mansions that are beautifully decorated for the holidays. Their are two Vanderbilt mansions that literally take your breath away.
Here's some info...

I will be approx. 34 weeks in early December so I'm not sure I can fly then. :( I just looked at the links you posted and they look awesome! Thanks so much for posting them. Maybe next year? ;)

Maybe you could take the baby with you next year! ;) It's a great "walking city".

Cape May, NJ is beautiful that time of year. I don't have any specific recommendations for a B&B, but the whole town goes all out.

I second the recommendation for Cape May. There are a ton of B&Bs there: one famous one is Angel-of-the-Sea. The whole town stages a number of holiday related events.

Cape May is a GREAT idea! We have thought of going there in the summertime but I had no idea they did holiday celebration type stuff. Thanks a lot ladies - that was really helpful! :)
