I am looking for a DIY wax to do my legs that actually works. I haven't tried any in a very long time and I can't remember the brand I once used which worked (it was hard to find anyway). Does anyone know of a waxing system that actually works well. My hair is pretty typical...a little on the finer side.

No one has tried to wax their legs themselves? Anyone try one that *didn't* work?

Two of my girlfriends and I have a "waxing club". We get togetehr every Wednesday after work, chat, gossip, eat, and wax eah other's legs and underarms (no bikini, that's too personal!).
We went to Sally's and got a wax warmer, wax tins, applicator sticks and the paper strips to pull it off. It works great! But, we do each otehr, not ourselves.
I've done my own legs, but it's hard. And even harder to reach the back of the legs, so I don't recommend doing it yourself. It's a mess!

If your hair is not too coarse, try those pre-waxed strips that you warm in yoru hands. They're not messy/drippy like meltable wax is.

Sally Hansen has a DIY wax kit. I've used it for my face before. The only difference for the body kit is that the strips are larger. The ones for face work fine, so I'm thinking the body would be pretty good too.

anyone else have any DIY leg waxing tips?
I tried mine last week and I used GiGi Honee, but I don't know if I screwed up or what. some strips left red stinging bumps - and the hair. some got most of the hair and some did nothing but hurt.
I've tried to wax my legs before several times without great success using different products. what actually works?

Do NOT use the Sally Hansen lavendar spa kit:

I used it exactly as directed, never going over the same section twice, and it pulled off a layer of skin. I was in serious pain for a few weeks. I did that months ago (there's a thread here about it, somewhere) and you can still see it, I think I scarred.
There was another kit by the same company I've had luck with, but I haven't seen it in stores in months. I had to order online and now Googling it, I can't find it. It must be discontinued.
Home waxing works better if you exfoliate first. Supposedly it takes off the old skin and helps the ingrowns come out.
I really like Nair Microwaveable Fresh Peach Melon Roll-on Sugaring Wax. Not that messy, and it's worked pretty well for me.
Nair Washable Honey Wax is okay, but I think I prefer the Roll-on Sugaring Wax.
The Sally Hansen Wax Strip kit (with the wax already on the strips) is easy to use but just doesn't get the job done as well as the other stuff, IMO.
Surgi-Wax Microwave Hair Remover is clearly the work of the devil -- avoid at all costs.
The Bliss Poetic Waxing Kit is supposed to be awesome (I have never tried it), but it is quite a bit pricier than the drug store stuff (I think around $45). I have heard really great things, though.
I obviously have no aversion to doing my own waxing, but as a disclaimer I have to say that every product I have tried has involved a little more discomfort and a few more red bumps and ingrown hairs than a good professional waxing does. Plus, I usually end up with quite a few stray hairs that have to be tweezed, even after going over the area more than once. Nothing major--just be aware that home waxing is rarely perfect, at least in my experience. FWIW, my experience is all with bikini line.

Soulmate: Did you ever find a waxing system that you liked? I was going to attempt to do mine tonight. I haven't shaved in a while, and I'm afraid that if I do, I'll clog the drain. :o Since DH has pool league tonight, I figure a good 24 hours recovery will be good. Thanks!

I agree Sally Hansen Sucks!!!!. It was painful as hell!!.
Also the "warm between your hands" and use wax strips suck too. I use the nair microwave wax and I love it....it's the best. Unfortunately I can't find it in stores now, not sure if it is discontinued. The most effective wax is hot wax, so if you can get the microwave wax, it sure will work wonders for you.

I bought a Sally Hansen home waxing kit and did one strip before I gave up. It was so totally messy and just a disaster. Honestly, at this point I would rather pay the money to go to a salon and have it done by someone who really knows what they are doing rather than risk hurting myself by doing it wrong (too hot wax, not pulling right, ect...).

I have the Poetic Waxing Kit and just love it. It is a bit pricy, $45, but it has paid for itself over and over again. I do my eyebrows every 2-3 weeks and my bikini line every once and a while when I am feeling courageous :)
Other than an upper lip kit I have yet to find a wazing product that works. If I want my legs or bikini done I have to go to the salon.

I'll have to try that. Do you get it from a salon or a store like Ulta?

I tried Parissa strips, and they didn't pull any hair off of my legs. I can't seem to find a waxing kit that works at home. I just go to the salon for a bikini wax nowadays.

I got mine from drugstore.com but you can get it at Sephora and I've seen it at Saks too.

I've tried various brands of wax and most have peeled off a layer of skin. Tonight I decided to try it again and I bought Nad's at Target. I am super impressed. I took an Aleve about an hour before I did a bikini wax and the pain wasn't bad and my skin is intact. I think I found a keeper!

I tried Nad's and it didn't do a thing, the hair didn't budge. It's so frustrating to hear it works for so many people and does nothing for me! My leg hair must have an iron grip or something.
