don't worry Maple, I'm in your exact boat. DH is starting to get a little antsy, but still being wonderful and patient. I am so worried. I had some major trauma down there and am really worried about how it will be.

Rippy - OMG I'm sorry!! I'm glad he's ok. You know I can relate, since I was the first one here to fall down stairs with my baby. :( <hugs>
KTSB - welcome!!
Nic - It's funny, Mia started rolling from back to tummy a few weeks ago except that she would get one arm pinned under her. All of a sudden, 2 days ago, she figured it out, and now she's rolling completely. So when I saw your post, I glanced at his birthday and it is 8 days after Mia's! I know the milestones have a wide range, but it sounds like our kids are really close on this one! I'd guess he'll figure out the full roll in the next few days to a week.
AF - Still no sign of her, still EBF.
DTD - Actually I do have the drive, but we don't seem to find the time all that much these days.
Rolling - Mia going constantly from back to front, but not the other way. It's becoming difficult because she flips over and gets stuck on her tummy. She screams a couple of times over the night, but she's not actually awake and she doesn't really "mean it". If I'm awake, I'll go flip her back over, but if I'm not, by the time I could get out of bed, she's ok again. It's like a 2-second scream and then she's over it. Playtime, though, she'll get onto her tummy on her playmat and scream until I rescue her.
Jeans - The other day, I wished Mia had a pair of ripped jeans, like abercrombie style. I have never seen ripped jeans for babies. So I got a pair of regular jeans and cut them with a razor. I think they turned out so cute, but my husband thinks it's idiotic. I see his point, but I still think it's cute.

AF - No AF yet, but I'm getting symptoms on and off. With Gabe, I got AF back at 6 months PP, and I was exclusively bfing. And then I got pregnant at 9 months PP, and I was still bfing. So, yeah, don't count on bfing as birth control. :) I miscarried that pregnancy, weaned Gabe a couple of months later, and got pregnant the next month with Ada.
Blegh ... I still haven't figured out birth control. We're just using withdrawal right now, which isn't the greatest, so I'm always a little worried about getting preggers. I better get things moving ...
DTD - We're DTD, but not as frequently as say, when we were sans kids. :) OMG, a couple of weeks ago, I had just gotten both kids down for a nap on a Saturday, and DH wanted to you-know-what. It was awful because I felt like I was going from chores to taking care of kids to taking care of my husband. And then Ada kept waking up and DH wanted me to bf her so she would go back to sleep so we could continue you-know-what. Well, let me tell, that's about the only time I've ever told him that I just could not continue because I was stressing about kids waking up and I was overtouched to begin with. Talk about not in a mood. He said, "This is just another chore for you, isn't it?" And yeah, a lot of the time it is. It's often something I just have to check off my list because everyone needs some of my time. I am so glad he came to that realization, however, because I've been meaning to talk to him about it for a while.
Kimber - Those jeans might be silly, but they're still darn cute! :)
rolling - Ironically, Ada rolled over twice on her own yesterday. After all of my worrying ...

Kimber--You have your little girl so "in style!" Mia is all ready quite the fashion plate! :D
DTD--LOL, obviously we do. DH was jumping around after my 6w checkup. I'm not that into it and honestly, we only do it about 2x a month.
Question for those with droolers--DS drools 24/7 these days, so I keep a bib on him all the time. Well, now the back of his neck has a little red line and a small scratch! I thought I put the bibs on pretty loose, but apparently not. Any suggestions?
___________________________
Yeah, well, no AF here yet and I'm still all crampy. Since I've always been insanely regular (once I got off the stupid mini-pill, I even had it w/in the same 48 hrs the last 2 months) I guess I'll test this weekend if still not here. YIKES. This is pretty much immaculate conception because we only DTD 2x a month and ALWAYS use condoms. Oy. Cross your fingers I'm not!!!!!!!!!
DS has been pretty happy the last few days because he figured out how to spit even with his pacifier in his mouth. I'm dreading starting solids now!!!!
I'll be back in a bit to post an Easter pic of DS. ETA:
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/midwesterngal03/BensEasterPicture.jpg
AF- I stopped breastfeeding after the first month and got AF back a few weeks later.
DTD We do, I was really nervous the first time but it wasn't too bad. Try having a glass of wine first.
Midwestern- No advice on the bib but my DS drools constantly too. If he doesn't have a bib on his shirt is soaked in 10 minutes.
p.s.- I love your son's hair, what a cutie!

DTD ~ Yeah, right. We've DTD either once or twice since coming home from the hospital (and only tried it 1-2 times while I was pregnant). Most of the time I'm just never in the mood. If, by some miracle, I'm in the mood it usually happens that DH is at work on the wrong shift ... or have DS to take care of.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes after the fall. I'm still sore, but DS is a trooper and he's perfectly fine. LOL.
Kimber ~ Those pics are just too cute. Your DD is quite the fashion model. :D
Kimber you could sell those!! Love it love it love it!!
Maple no sex life here either. DD is still in our bedroom and I think DH doesn't want her to hear. :D Then we tried to "schedule" it for one weekend and right on cue PPAF showed up. We're moving DD to her room this weekend so hopefully I'll get some action soon.

Midwestern Yes, totally with the boy's Easter clothes. I don't know why but I thought the sweater and cords at Christmas weren't quite as preppy looking. Though they probably are about the same really! Love that new pic with him in the Easter onesie, so cute!
Kimber That's too funny. I can see why your DH didn't understand, but she totally rocks that look. I agree with the others, she's quite the fashion plate.
Rippy Good to hear your DS is doing well!
AF Not yet, but I think it's coming in the next week or so. Maybe I'm totally wrong, as I still haven't started temping again (I used charting to avoid as birth control before we TTC) but I think I may have Oed last week. Or maybe it's just a hormonal shift. Time will tell, but if I'm right it will be about 5 months PP.
DTD Reduced sexdrive and way reduced time have led to us DTD only twice since Simon arrived. Very uncomfortable the first time (about 9 weeks PP?) and not so bad a couple of weeks ago. DH was the one creeped out by doing it at the end of pregnancy, and that was only the last couple of months.
New question! After looking at all the pics in here of babies with hair... Does anyone else have a bald baby? Simon only has a little bit of fuzz overall and a giant completely bald spot in the back. Neither DH or I had any real amounts of hair on our own heads until almost 2 years old, so I'm thinking our little one is following suit!
Ericka_Jarett
03-16-2007, 09:23 AM
midwestern- we have a drooler as well, he soaks his shirts in seconds if no bib. I usually just have a velcro bib on him instead of tie ones because he pulls it and turns it around. Just put a little Aquaphor or lotion before you put the bib on.
Easton has figured out how to spit his paci out and toss it in his crib. DH was holding him the other day and he just about spit it out across the room
Foods - I found Easton is not into the beef dinners at this time. Loves the chicken ones and stands the turkey ones. Loves bananas, so I got varieties of the banana mixes. I wanted to try him on the jar cereals with fruits to see if he likes them for the FL trip, he ate it so we are good with those too.
Hair - since Easton tummy sleeps he doesn't have the bald spot. He did have some thinning but his hair is getting longer and where it was thin it's got new hair coming in.
He has grown out of most of his sleepers now, we have about 4-5 that fit still.

Bunnybeth Steven is very bald. DH and I and DD all were as well. DD only started having enough hair for ponytails at about 18 months. Not that I plan on ponytails for DS, of course. :p Anyway, I personally prefer bald babies, but a lot of that is just b/c it runs in my family so that's what I'm used to.
Steven is 6 months old today! Just amazing. Last week we tried soy formula instead of Alimentum in hopes he'd outgrown his allergy and it was not a happy time. We switched back and he's back to his smiley self again. So I guess we'll have to keep shelling out $250/month for formula. He is starting to sit briefly leaning on his hands and is almost ready to scoot--he just goes in a circle right now.

I looked down today and suddenly noticed that my nipples are back to their normal color (normally extremely light). I guess this probably happened gradually but I hadn't been noticing it at all. I still have a very faint linea negra, but that's almost gone too. Where do you all stand with that stuff?
Thanks to everyone who said Mia's stylish! I'm telling you, I am SO living vicariously until I get my body to a better place.
MidwesternGal
03-17-2007, 08:45 PM
Linea Negra--Sorry, never got one!
Nipples+Surrounding area--Very large, are pretty much back to normal color though.
Other Body Stuff--Even though I'm below pre-preggo weight by a couple pounds, my stomach seems to have a bit of "overhang" just above my belly button. It's super duper annoying, because the skin gets irritated when I wear belts (from the rubbing). Additionally, that same part of my upper stomach looks all wrinkly from stretch marks, etc. Of course, I have the poochy too, but I had that before I got preggo! ;) So I don't notice that too much. Oh, and my hips are pretty much permanently spread. Grr.
Kimber--Oh yeah, I hear ya on living vicariously. My DS looks freakin' cute all the time, but here I am, wondering what the heck is going to look remotely okay on me today!!

Morning ladies!
I'll try and catch up a bit again :o
linea nigrea - never totally faded from when I was PG w/ DD, but it didn't get as dark the 2nd time.
DTD - exactly once since DS was born :o  . Glad to know my DH isn't the only one not getting any though. No sleep, no time, and no desire.
AF - nope. She didn't return until DD was 13 months old, so I'm really not expecting her anytime soon.
bald baby - yup. DS has a couple of long hairs, the rest is really just fuzz.
I'm gainfully employed again. I approached the owner of my favorite quilt shop about her hiring me to take care of online business and she thought it was a good idea. I'll be able to do most of it from home. I'm excited and *VERY* nervous!

Does anyone else's DC spit up as soon as s/he rolls on to her/his tummy?
Logan is a spit-up machine when he gets to rolling. I keep thinking to myself ... how does everyone's DC get all this tummy time if they are constantly spitting up?
Speaking of rolling ... he finally, finally, finally let me see him roll from tummy to back. Then did it about four times in one day. LOL!
MichelleRenee
03-18-2007, 09:54 AM
Linea Negra: Gone above my belly button and very thin/light colored below.
Nipples: Back to normal, which is surprisingly sad to me.
DTD: Twice while I was pregnant and 4 times since. Exhaustion, poor timing, and discomfort just make it so much less desireable! (Plus the fear of accidentally getting PG again. We already had a bit of a scare!)
AF: After I stopped BFing I had 3 weeks left on the mini-pill, then a full cycle on my regular BCP before having AF. She made her appearance last week for the first time. It was surprisingly light though! I heard so many horror stories about how awful it would be the first time after having a baby but it was a piece of cake. (although it was wierd to have to remember to stock my purse with "supplies" though.)
Rolling: Not even close! And MIL keeps reminding me that our nephew started rolling over at 3 months and keeps asking what is "wrong" with Tristan. I am not too bothered by it though. He may not be rolling but he can support his full weight on his legs for extended periods of time so I am still proud of my little guy!
Things have been hectic!! Tristan is finally getting over his fever, but is still coughing, congested, teething and miserable! He seems OK today but as the day goes on he tends to get worse. I know his first tooth is going to pop in very soon and I just want it to happen already.
When I look at him now he looks very grown up! At his 6 week WBV he was in the 50th percentile for weight and height. At his 4 month WBV he was still 50 for weight but 90th for height! So he is getting very tall. I have some jammies that we got as a shower gift. When I opened them I thought "these are huge! They'll never fit him!" They fit him now.:p
I am really starting to feel normal. I think I am pretty much over my PPD. If I see a pregnant woman I still feel a bit of sadness that I no longer have my baby in my belly, but then I remember how cute and sweet he is and I feel OK. I don't go home and cry afterwards anymore, which is nice. I still feel a little sad when I see someone else BFing or read posts about it here on CC. People are so quick to remind everyone that "BFing is best" and I guess it sometimes makes me feel a little guilty that I chose to switch to formula. I think if I could go back and change things I would have continued with BFing a little longer, but the past is the past and I have got to move on.

marathongirl--Good luck with the new job!
Rippy--I posted on that a while back. DS would ALWAYS spit up because as soon as I'd put him down, he'd flip onto his tummy. Our solution is to put him into his jumperoo, doorway jumper, or his bebe pod seat for about 1/2 hour or so, to be sure he has digested anything. Sometimes he still spits up, but at least he doesn't rub his face in it if he's upright.
MichelleRenee--I'm so glad that you are getting over your PPD! I am breastfeeding but going to initiate weaning in about a month. It is becoming very trying for me and he takes a bottle soooo much better than the breast, and I can't pump--even with a hospital grade! You needed to make the choice that's best for baby AND you, because if you don't take care of you, then how can you take the best care of baby? My delivery doctor/post-partum doctor told me he was "concerned" that I thought breastfeeding was "annoying" because I guess a lot of new moms continue to do it even if they don't want to or get touched out and then feel guilty, which then can contribute to PPD, and if Mom breaks down, the whole family unit breaks down. Whew, that's a run-on sentence. Anyway, long story short--if you're not taking care of yourself, you can't take care of your baby!

All I have to say is: YAY for the arrival of AF! LOL.

Linea Negra - still there but light. Although never really got super dark anyway, so really looks the same to me.
Easton is doing so good, we went to NJ today and he was his own cute little self. Sleeps when he is in the car so that is nice, he was up for a while on the way there and the way back, sits in his seat talking to me as we drive.
Got some interesting news today. Easton is going to be a big brother. Yup, I am about 5 weeks pregnant. Easton will be about 15 months old when the new baby comes. I am still a bit in shock by it, we weren't preventing but we didn't expect it to happen so quickly.

Rippy - I was just getting use to the idea of Easton being 2 or 3 before one came along, if we even had another. I think this will be it though, we'll see. It will be for sure at least 2-3 yrs before we had another but at that point will be 35-36 so thinking I will be done

Ericka--CONGRATS!!! I have to say, even though I'm more than thrilled that I'm not pg (we realllllly can't afford it now, and my body isn't ready again, IMHO), I was a teensy disappointed. Easton and DC2 will be close and you'll have all the diaper stage done with at once!!
We plan to try around DS's 1st bday and into the new year--have the baby at some point in 2008 basically, preferably between April and December, because Jan-Mar is horrible weather and I'd have to have a c/s, which is only done at a hospital an hour away.

I just had an argument with Mike. When Tristan is upset he starts saying "ma ma" as he cries. Not "ma ma ma ma" but "ma ma." I say it counts and that mama is his first word. Mike says it doesn't.
Who's right??
Rippy1010
03-19-2007, 06:46 AM
MichelleRenee ~ I'm laughing only because you two sound like my DH and I. That seems like an argument we would definitely have. But, I've read that DCs will soon start to try to mimick our words and will definitely start saying "ma ma" and "da da" in the next weeks to month (depending on our individual babies' development, obviously). But, that while they are mimicking the words, they really have no idea what they are referring to. Soooo ... with that said, I would vote that it was his first word, but he doesn't know that it's you. :p ;) LOL!
Ericka_Jarett
03-19-2007, 06:52 AM
I agree with Rippy. They don't know what words are this early. Easton has been saying ma ma all the time, but says it when hubby is holding him as well. So it's just babble to us, we aren't counting it as his first words
Thanks ladies, still in shock a day later.

03-19-2007, 08:16 AM
Wow, Ericka! Congrats! I am SO excited for you.
Linea negra: Never got one.
Nipples: It seems like mine have been "normal" for awhile, but I don't know. I haven't paid too much attention.
DTD: I actually have the desire, which surprises me. We seem to be on a once a week schedule right now. However, DH knows not to bother me after 8p.m. My desire to sleep is much greater!
Spit up: DD very, very rarely spits up. I'm not complaining, but I do have all these cute burp cloths I never use.
It sounds like many of you plan to try for the next baby fairly quickly. Anyone else want theirs spaced out more? I'm thinking I want DD to be 4-5 before #2 comes along.

03-19-2007, 08:27 AM
Thanks ladies. Still getting use to the fact that I am pregnant again. This is my 3rd pregnancy in 4 yrs. I got pregnant with Rebekah in Nov 2004, had her on April, 2005. Easton in Jan, 2006 and born in Sept 2006 and now. Yikes!!!
Bunnybeth- You're not the olf one with a bald baby. Christian has some fuzz on his head but that's about it.
Rippy DS still spits up often, rolling over or not. I really hope this is something he outgrows soon.
Erika- Congratulations, wishing you a happy, healthy 9 months!

marathongirl Congrats on the new job! It sounds like a great arrangement to be able to mostly work from home.
MichelleRenee Tell MIL that all babies develop at different rates. :p That's good to hear that Tristan is starting to feel better, that teething must be tough on the little guy. Simon was 50% for weight and 90% for height at the 4 mo WBV, so it looks like our boys are about the same size.
Don't feel bad about having to switch to formula. Even BF for a few weeks does a lot for your baby. However, I think there really does need to be a big push for "BF is best" though, just because so many ignorant people in our society are squeamish about it, which I think can turn off timid mothers who would like to give it a try. So, every parent should be able to make their own decisions on what is best for them, but nobody's going to ask you to stop giving a baby a bottle, so BF just needs a little extra support. KWIM? :)
Ericka Congrats! I hope your pregnancy goes well.
Tater I'm 4 years apart from both my brothers, and it was hard for us to relate to each other growing up (plus, different gender didn't help!) which is why I'd like something closer to 2-2.5 years spacing with my kids. But, my parents liked it, it really does have some advantages. Like breaks from diapers and more independent kids when needing to care for a newborn DC#2.
Forgot to post this last week:
4 months
Weight: 15 lb, 4 oz (50%)
Height: 26.5" (90%)
Head: 43 cm
Rippy1010
03-19-2007, 10:38 AM
Oh yeah ... almost forgot ...
Tater ~ My sister and I are 5 years apart, and we really don't relate very well and don't really have much in common. That's pretty much why I felt a 2-year difference would be good for us.
MidwesternGal
03-19-2007, 11:04 AM
Our reasoning for spacing them about 2 years apart is because I'd like to be "done" all at once. We never planned on having kids until later in life, but now that we have one, I'd rather do it all at the same time. I'll still be in "baby" mode in a year or two, the kids will be a couple of years apart, and we don't have to start all over if we waited say, 4-5 years.
Ericka_Jarett
03-19-2007, 11:07 AM
My oldest 2 brothers are 1 1/2 yrs apart and the 3rd brother is 3 yrs younger than my middle brother. I came along when my brothers were 11, almost 10 (5 days later was his bday) and 7. My mom said it was like raising 2 families. We all have the same parents. I was closest when I got a little older to my middle brother, I lived at his house when my parents moved to NY State and when we came back to NJ from WA he let us stay at his house

First of all - Congrats Ericka. Wishing a very healthy 9 months!!! How very exciting.
AF - Although I've been BF, I got my period in January and its been pretty regular since then. I was kind of bummed when I got it. Was hoping to not have to deal with it for a little bit longer.
Kimber - Mia is too cute in her jeans!!
Midwestern - Your dS is such a cutie. What color is his hair? It looks kind of reddish/blond.
MichelleRenee - I'm glad to hear you are feeling better with PPD. And I agree what other have said. Even a few days of breastmilk have health benefits for both you and the baby. Some women choose not to even try (and that's ok too, I'm not trying to judge or say anything badly about it), so you should feel proud that you tried and your baby was able to benefit during that time.
I went on what felt like a baby clothes shopping spree this weekend. Went to H&M - got the CUTEST dress and shoes. Then used my Gymbucks. And then surprising found some clearance stuff at KMart that was cute (pants for like $1.25!!! - can't beat that for play clothes). I need to stop buying stuff for Grace.

Ericka Congrats!
When are the sleep issues going to end??? DS has been doing so well lately, and is finally happy again, so we decided last night we'd put him in his crib instead of his basinette which is really too small for him now. He rolled over onto his belly and screamed sooo many times last night (the basinette is too small for him to be able to roll all the way over). I am exhausted. And we're going to have to keep going through this until he learns to stay asleep when he rolls over. DD slept better once she learned to roll, but he apparently has to be different. It just reinforces that we are definitely done having children.

OMG Ericka, congratulations!!
Michellerenee - sorry, I don't think it counts as a word unless it's said in context. Mia has been saying ma-ma for weeks but I haven't seen any evidence that she is deliberately referring to me or anything else. If context doesn't matter, then her first word was "ingblau". ;)
Congratulations Ericka!
We're back from our trip to Phoenix. Things went well. As DH said I was just living my daily life in another house in another state so it really wasn't much of a vacation for me. DH went golfing, to the zoo, to the Sox game. They were having record heat while we were there so it really didn't make any sense for me to take AJ to the zoo in 96 degree temps.
AJ started coughing while we were there and has gotten worse since we got home. We went to the doctor today and the nasty RSV is back again. It is our goal to stay out of the hospital this time. Nebulizer treatments 3 times a day and sleeping in the sitting up position. He was also "officially" diagnosed with eczema which I suspected all along so we got a cream for that. Hopefully it will all go away now and he can stop itching so much. He also gained another 2 punds and now weighs 21 pounds 3 ounces. He's in 12 month clothes. I guess I had better stop eating so much spinach!! :)
Linea Nigera- mine is gone.
Areolas- still rather large, though they seem to be lightening up.
DH is ready to start trying again. Me, not so much. For now we're planning on officially trying in October. We DTD maybe once a week but DH hates using condoms. He wants to be free "just once" and I won't let him. I'm too scared.

Dang it. I hate it when Mike is right and I am wrong. I just know Tristan is going to say "Da Da" before he says "Ma Ma."
AmyS: I am sorry the RSV has returned. Hopefully it won't get any worse! And sorry about the eczema too.
jbemommy: Sorry about the sleep issues. Is he rolling over in his sleep or is he awake when he does it? Hang in there...

AmyS--So sorry about the RSV! Hopefully it clears up for good after this round.
jbemommy--We ended up buying a sleep positioner for DS. He rarely, if ever, naps, and basically is psycho the next day if he doesn't get his sleep at night. I plan to keep using it until he's weaned from the swaddle.

OK, who was it that was having so much cramping lately? Did you ever get AF?
I've been cramping for days now, and nothing. I remember having AF symptoms about a month before I actualy got my first PP AF with Gabe, but these are more intense. Ugh. I feel like crapolla.

Well, now I'm officially a bad mother! When we got home from work last night, DS had a red, goopy eye and an ear infection. So he was probably crying more from pain than because he rolled over. :( We did put him back in the basinette last night instead of the crib, and with tylenol and an antibiotic he slept all night.
To make it even better, he had his 6 month appt. today and got shots. Tonight he had a fever and you could tell he just didn't feel good. After some motrin he did cool off and seem happier. So we'll try moving him to a crib once he's better.

pamela - how did the rice cereal go?
jbemommy - I did the same thing to DD once. After being up a bazillion times, I let her cry. Turned out she had an ear infection. :(
AmyS - sorry about the RSV!!! My DS also has terrible, horrible excema. The itching wakes him up at night. His skin is just a disaster even with prescription cortisone. I finally made an appt with a pediatric allergist and it can't get here soon enough!
drooling - one of DS's favorite activities is blowing raspberries so he usuallu has spit running down his chin.
spitting up - yes, usually a little after each feeding. DD *never* spit up, so I've been caught unprepared a few times.
Hope all is well with everyone!
Ericka_Jarett
03-21-2007, 05:13 AM
drooling - Easton does raspberries and also learned how to suck in his bottom lip and suck on it. Last week his chin was actually starting to dry out from him doing that. Haven't seen him do it this week at all.
spitting up - Easton has spit a little since he was born. The other day he really caught me off guard and spit quite a bit like a fountain. Wasn't huge amount but just the way it came out, geez.
Pamela - curious how she liked the rice cereal. Easton doesn't care for it at all, I still have the same box that he started with. I mix it in some of the dinners that are too thin for his liking and he will eat it that way. He loves oatmeal cereal though and we are almost done with box 2.
Foods - Easton is eating stage 2 baby foods now. (mostly cause the fruits were bigger sizes and they have the meals) He loves green beans, bananas, peaches and applesauce (as long as that is thickened a little), barely stands peas, carrots (too watery) and pears. He likes chicken noodle dinner, chicken and apples, hates beef and vegetable, stands turkey rice.

Ericka ... it's so funny how opposite Logan and Easton are! LOL! Logan is on his second box of rice and mixed grain cereals and really only barely tolerates the oatmeal. He DESPISES green beans. But, loves loves loves peas, carrots, and applesauce. He is so-so on sweet potatoes and squash.
Isn't that funny? LOL!
We, too, are moving in to the Stage 2 foods this week (mostly for the larger variety) ... at least for the veggies, since we are still working our way through fruits.

That is pretty funny Rippy. Easton eat his pears with applesauce today, he doesn't like pears by themselves. I bought Apple, Pear and Banana jars and Apple and Banana jars and he likes those a lot. We bought banana puffs the other day, he liked them better than the apple-strawberry ones.
He just follows his mama, when I was little I loved the jars of banana baby food. :)

Robyn is eating rice, barley and oatmeal ceareal and loves all of the them, but I think likes barley the best. She eats bananas, yams, applesauce, prunes and avacadoes. She likes everything, but only really tolerates the applesauce, but I think it's quite tart. She's been a little "backed up" this week, so that's why we started the prunes ( um, works well! ;) ). Next week we'll start into green veggies.

Wow, some babies have been eating such a variety already. Grace has only had rice and peas. We're trying oatmeal this weekend. I'm pretty slow with introducing new foods. I only do a new food every 7 days (vs 3-4 days). Once I know what Grace likes, I'm going to start making my own purees. Pretty excited about that.

Lainey had had rice cereal, green beans, peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, peaches, pears, applesauce and bananas. She like it all! In fact, I was prepared for some funny faces and spitting things out. I had my camera ready, but nope. She's eaten everything without so much as a sour face. I think maybe it's that she's used to a variety of tastes with BFing? I don't know. Maybe that and the fact that neither I nor DH are picky eaters. We love everything too! Thus the reason my clothes don't fit, but that is another story...

So am I the only one who hasn't started their DC on solids yet? I plan to when he hits the 6 month mark.

We're now having massive sleep issues!!!! Arugh! DS is now getting harder and harder to get to sleep at night, then he wakes up 1-2 times. I used to bring him to bed with us and he'd just go right back to sleep, but lately, he stays up. And then hits me with his free arm (we're trying to break the swaddle slowly) allllll night long. Last night, he was awake almost the ENTIRE night!!!! AUGH!!!
Plus, we reaaaaly need him to go to sleep w/o the swaddle, and I'd like to start putting him down drowsy. . . I think life is going to be hard the next few weeks.

MidwesternGal - Nope, you're not the only one. I'm still here. I'm probaby going to start solids in a few weeks though.
Jbemommy - I hope your DS feels better soon! It's so hard to see your baby sick!
Maplekitty - That video is adorable! I think that you do have a dancer on your hands!
Sleep Issues - Yes!!! I don't know where my good sleeper has gone. She is now being really difficult when I put her down and wakes up over and over for a couple of hours before sleeping the rest of the night. Last night I tried to have her CIO a couple of times for about 3-5 minutes and the poor thing was just so shaken up! I don't think I have the tolerance for CIO. I've been researching sleep training and I'm ready to start trying some different methods. I've been reading the Dr. Sears website and his approach seems to work well with our parenting style so I'm going to read up on that for awhile.

Another one waiting for six months here. So you're not the only one. Her 6 month WBV is April 10th. We'll probably start right then. She is definately starting to really watch when we eat or drink things.
I gave her a sippy cup with water the other day. She didin't totally get it. When so water would come out she had a pretty surprised look on her face.
Maplekitty- Tha video is adorable!
DS is still just on rice cereal. I have to go out and buy him some fruit to try this week.
When we had his 4 month WBV last month the doctor said we could start cereal and fruit but I shouldn't introduce veggies until after his 6 month WBV. I didn't question her at the time but now I'm wondering why she said that.
Ericka_Jarett

03-21-2007, 12:40 PM
Steven is only eating rice cereal mixed with applesauce or bananas. We haven't pushed it too much. We tried squash and he actually gagged! I also discovered that Gerber cereals have soy oil mixed with them, and he seems to be allergic to soy as well as milk, so we've switched to Beech-Nut instead.
nic I don't know of any reason you can't start veggies before 6 months.
KimberDK
03-21-2007, 03:15 PM
Maplekitty - OMG that video is priceless!! I cracked up.
Solids - we are waiting until at least 6 months. I think APA is currently reccommending 6 - 8 months for EBF babies, as opposed to the 6 they had been saying in the past. I am not planning to do cereals at all, I don't see the point. As far as I can tell they don't have nutritional value, she sleeps great and loves breastfeeding. From what I've read, the only purpose of solids up until 1 year is to familiarize with tastes and textures. I'm think I'm going to do what Dr. Sears suggests: first feeding will be a fingertip of mashed banana. I'll try it somewhere between 6 and 8 months, depending on whether she seems to be starting to take an interest in food. It's not really important to me to push solids yet.

KimberDK: yep, he's awesome! Bummer about the freezer stash. It must be hard to have to throw so much away. Once I left our bottle cooler with 2 large bottles FULL of EBM at a restaurant overnight. I prayed and prayed that the ice kept them cold, but they were completely warm when I picked them up the next morning. I couldn't even dump the bottles. I had to make Mike do it. It was horrible. I get the same feeling when I have to dump formula, but that is just because of the price.

Kimber--Man, I wish I had tried to pump more when I was renting the hospital grade one, esp. now that DS really doesn't like to BF anymore--sadly, even with that, I could only get about 2-3 oz TOTAL at a time, and after a month, I couldn't get any. KimberDK - Don't toss it yet! Here's what my Medela leaflet recommends: You can store expressed milk 3-6 months in a home freezer (that means the back of a home refrigerator freezer) and 6-12 months in a deep freezer. I've definitely used things older than 3 months. Just because it hits that mark doesn't mean it automatically expires.
And, you could use it to mix with cereal. You haven't started solids yet, right? But when you do in a month or so, the milk is better than water when mixing cereal. She'll get added nutrition.
The milk bank is another good idea. My lacatation consultant said you have to have at least 100 oz. to start donating to the Wisconsin Milk Bank. I think our milk actually goes to Ohio or something like that because Wisconsin isn't accepting donated milk quite yet.
Anyway, don't toss it just yet!
Solids- We won't be starting solids until 6 months as well. They suggest if 1 parent has food allergies you wait until then. With me allergic to almost everything under the sun, we're waiting. AJ is showing great interest in food as he tries to grab at ours when we're eating something around him. While visiting the IL's last week he kept grabbing at my drinks, so I went to Safeway and bought a sippy cup. He sucked it down as soon as I gave it to him. He only does this well with the Playtex sippy though, not the Avent ones we got at our shower. What kind of sippy cup do you use? Is there one that's better than another?
KimberDK- I know how you feel about getting rid of milk. I had to throw away a bunch when I figured out AJ was allergic to milk. I had no way of knowing if I had drank milk when I pumped it or not. I wish I had thought to give it to a milk bank.
Drooling- AJ is like a faucet that runs all day. It seems I can only use Carter's brand bibs on him to keep his clothes dry. If I use a regular terry cloth bib it's soaked through in a matter of minutes.
With the nebulizer treatments he seems to be getting better. I picked up something nasty though. DH was at the firehouse yesterday so my mom had to call in sick to work to come over and take care of AJ and I.

Oh dear. Day 1 of CIO for naps is not going very well at all. I rocked him for about 10 minutes unswaddled until he had *just* drifted off and put him in the crib. He was actually just sqwaking but I went up to check on his pacifier (he has a tendency to spit it a few feet away!) and now of course, he's screaming. Grrr. I suppose I should go back up and check on the paci, but I think I *ruined* things earlier by going up--I should have just left him. Oh well, live and learn. Don't most books say that it's about 3-7 days before they "get" it? I figure with DH working early mornings (gets up between 5 and 6:30 am), if I get the naps down, it'll make nights easier. I hope. I reallllly hope.

MWGal ~ I feel your pain. We did/do "fuss it out" rather than CIO for a few weekends (because I'm not home with him during the week), and it's not going well either. Good luck with it. I think consistency and perserverance is the key, and it does take more than a few days for it to become habit with them.

Milk Bank - Oh, yes I have definitely wanted to donate it. They won't take it because I take zoloft. Although I just found an international bank that collects milk for AIDS babies in africa, supposedly they are little more lax about some things, figuring I guess that an AIDS baby is better of getting milk with some relatively harmless drugs in it than no milk at all. I am waiting for them to get back to me about it. I have read that in the medela leaflet about 3-6 months, but then other sources say just 3. I'm not sure which is right, but since she's not drinking it anyway...it seemed safetr to err on the side of caution. With my supply, I can replenish it in no time. Five and half months in and I'm still leaking everywhere.
Solids Wow I felt like I was the only one not starting solids but apparently I'm not. Ped suggested 6 months after asking if DH and I have or had Asthma issues. We do. Kimber I agree about the cereal. I'd like to go straight to the stage 1 foods. They seem pretty liquidy anyway.
Sippy cup I have a feeling DD is ready for this as well. I think I might get one and see how it goes. Also curious about which sippy cup to buy.
Erika big congrats. There are many many good examples in my life of women with babies that close together.
Loving all the videos. Aren't our little guys and girls just coming to life? I try and capture everyday moments as often as possible too. At least if I can't remember to write things down I have a visual memory of it.
Spring hit with a vengeance in CA last week and poor DD has literally nothing cool to wear. Don't want her getting overheated. Darn it I have to go shopping!
Did anyone else's feet grow so much their shoes no longer fit? Of course DH thinks this is a clever attempt to buy more shoes but honestly half of my summer sandals are not wide enough anymore. I had heard this can happen after babies.

Well I attempted homemade peas this morning - It was a NO go! I'm thinking homemeade peas just aren't that easy, because they still had the texture of the skins, even though I pureed the crap out of them. First she gagged, and then she started chocking a little...OMG I was so scared, I grabbed her patted her back, gave her some bottle. She just looked at me like "What the hizzle was that?" Yikes! Okay, off to the store to buy jarred peas and I guess green beans too. I'll stick to homemade stuff that's easily pureed - like yams, sweet potatoes and squashes.

Sippy Cup ~ I don't know if it's the best one or not, but I just purchased a Nuby sippy cup that has two handles on the side, and comes with a soft silicone variable-flow nipple. I didn't try it yet because DS has been kind of moodly this week. But, it looks pretty good and advertises as a smooth transitioner from bottle to cup.
MWGal ~ Our little man does that, too. He DEFINITELY lets you know the moment that he's upset. He goes from smiling to full-fledged hysterics in about 1 second flat. Moody little devil. LOL. Oh! And I hope you didn't think I was saying anything bad about your choice to CIO! I totally wasn't. We did try CIO several weekends, but he would just cry for the entire 15-min time limit that we set for it, and then would be inconsolable for even 30 min after we picked him back up again. It was an awful household while we were doing that, LOL. That's why we moved to fuss-it-out. Sometimes he still cries the full 15-min, but he's easier to console and quiet down afterwards. :)

I have a mini-cuisinart. I thought the blender would make it too liquidy.

I am going to try and catch up. I have been dealing with 2 sick kids for the last 3 days. My oldest DD has a bad stomach bug and has been throwing up a ton. Meg is all stuffy and coughing. There is nothing worse than seeing your babies sick and not being able to do anything.:(
Solids We have given Meg cereal and a few veggies. She loves the cereal and is so so on some of the veggies. We are taking it pretty slow.
Midwestern We had to do CIO with our first DD and yes it took about a week for it to work, but it did. You really have to be consistent. We found that it was worse if we went back in.

Rippy What is fuss it out?
Actually, I read about it in maplekitty's journal (I think she got it from the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby book) and she's more of an expert at it than I am. LOL. But, it's basically like a modified CIO. Instead of leaving the baby alone in the room to CIO for a time limit that you set, you stay with the baby and place your hand on either the tummy or the back (depending on how DC sleeps) for the time limit. But you don't talk to them or anything like that - - your hand being there just let's the DC know that you are there and they are safe. Basically.
Did I explain that right? I'm not sure if it made sense. LOL.
KimberDK- I'm sorry DD is refusing milk.
Maplekitty- Yikes, I think I would have freaked. I'm nervous that Christian is going to choke too (not sure why).
Sippy cup Honestly, I haven't given it much thought. He's not holding his own bottle so I'm not sure he could handle a sippy cup just yet.
Just curious, are babies this age usually holding their own bottle? I've tried a couple times but he's not that interested.

Rippy--Fuss it out sounds interesting. Esp. after we have had another day of screaming that results in no napping! Maple, perhaps you can expand? What is the length of time you both tried this TOTAL before giving up and picking up your DC? I'm unclear as to how long I should keep trying before calling it a day. . . because DS can scream for a VERY long time.
Bottle-Holding--DS doesn't get bottles a ton, but when he does, he "helps" us hold them, but not on his own. He recognizes that bottles mean food though, because he always reaches for DH's pop bottles (same basic shape, I suppose). I have a feeling once we partially wean him, he'll get the hang of it pretty quickly--he's a big eater.
Question: Does your DC get frustrated by not being able to "move" anywhere? Now that DS is rolling all over, he gets M.A.D. that he can't get anywhere. He usually ends up pushing his toys out of his reach, then gets upset; and even if I give them back, he's still upset. In fact, he's even taken to toppling himself out of the BebePod--on purpose!! I thought he "fell" the other day, but nope, he just sees something and tips himself right over the side, grinning the whole time, little stinker. Anyway, is there anything I can do to help his frustration?
ETA: Here's my little escape artist. Notice the little SMIRK on his face??!!! I think he'll be trouble in a few months.

Threadmistresses - Can you please take down my pictures that are on the front page? I don't want them to be in the next thread. I'll post DD's Easter pictures next month.
Midwesterngal - Your son is too cute. My DD will get frustrated if she's on her tummy and forgets how to flip over. From your picture it looks like your DS will be crawling soon. :)
Sleep - DD is sleeping through the night again. The time change a few weeks back threw her off. Her napping schedule is changing though. Instead of taking a nap every 2 hours she's going for about 3 - 3.5 hours. We are struggling though with cradling/rocking her to sleep for naps and bedtime. She has started kicking her legs and turning her face from side to side. Today I was able to just hold her while she laid her head on my shoulder and fell asleep, so that might be our new technique.
QOTD - Toys for 6-12 month olds? We're looking to purchase DD some new toys in the 6-12 month range and I was wondering if your children have any favorites.

My niece is 13 months and things that she really liked are "Weeble Wobbles People" - do you know what those are?? She likes taggie blankets and books, and pretty much any soft books. She likes ring stackers and little plastic blocks that rattle and have pictures on them. Now that she's older she likes interactive toys that you have to put pieces in the holes, or balls rolls in and come out a hole...things like that!

Toys - OK, I was always one to say we'd never be overrun by toys, and, well, ... we have been. :) Ever since Gabe turned 1, we've had too many toys in this house.
Our favs: The Learning Table from Leap Frog is great for when they start standing. I think we got that when Gabe was about 7 months old.
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000062XQ8.01-A2512EJA9TZ5OT._AA280_SCLZZZZZZZ_V42088764_.jpg
I like the little balls and blocks that have things inside of them. Those might be Playskool, too. I'm trying to get on the Playskool site to get some pics, but I keep crashing, so forgive the lack of details ...
Otherwise, Gabe's favorite when he turned 1 was a train that carried the blocks I mentioned above.
Honestly, Gabe didn't get into toys until he turned 1. He mainly played with balls and simple things ... now, he's a toy fanatic.
Ada has inherited a lot of Gabe's stuff ... her newest favorite is the Mozart Magic Cube from embryonics ... that's been a favorite of both kids.
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B00004TFLB.01-A3FEQK2YBWKTKP._AA280_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
Oh, another big favorite was, and still is, the Little People school bus. Although Gabe didn't start pretending until closer to 2, he carted all sorts of stuff around in that bus because it has an easy-access top.

Jenzen - you mean the peek-a-blocks & rounds. We got several sets of those. We were going with the round ones (we got the bubble gum machine at the shower) and someone then gave us a set of the blocks, so I got the goldfish for those and we also are waiting to get the building ones, as we got the turtle on clearance back in January. (that one is for 12 months and up so hoping for his b-day we get more blocks)

Nic - Just to clarify, Mia's not refusing milk altogether, just milk in a bottle. She is a terrific little nurser; but sho only wants it straight from the tap. It really doesn't bother me *that* much - it's more my husband and my mom that would like it (husband so we can go out from time to time without her, and mom so she can babysit). Personally, I kind of like the excuse to never have to be apart from her, and so DH can't take her to his parents' without me.
Midwestern - No Mia doesn't seem frustrated yet by lack of mobility, but I don't think it's really clicked for her yet that she *could* be mobile.
Jenzen - ooh, I like that learning table.
I was hanging with a group of pretty crunchy moms and someone referred tp her kid liking a certain toy but she couldn't get of for him beacause <gasp> it's plastic. Turns out they only buy toys that are made of natural materials (ie. wood, cloth). There are so many "issues" if you want to look for them. Personally, that one's a bit much for me.

Kimber--Yeah, I have heard of some people who subscribe to that idea. I personally want to keep a lot of the tv/movie based products away from DS as much as I can, and try to buy more educational or learning based toys as he gets older. Things like blocks or some pretend clothes along with things like that table a pp has, etc. I'm not psycho or anything, I just want him to have a nice mix of the two types.
Jenzen01
03-25-2007, 06:37 AM
Ericka - Yep! That's what I was talking about! :)
Kimber - One of the moms in my new moms group won't use plastic sippy cups because the plastic can "leech" in the juice/milk. I'm really not sure what to think about that ... sounds good in theory but plastic is extremely difficult to avoid.
Sitting - Ada is sitting up on her now for extended periods. I love hitting this milestone because she can entertain herself for longer times now.
And, I think she's teething. Snot and drool everywhere, and I can tell she's irritated by something. Poor baby. From what I can see in her mouth, it looks like she's getting a bottom side tooth before the front ones. That's sort of weird.

TM - please update DH's age to 34.His b-day was on Friday.
Toys - DD LOVES to draw and play with play-doh, but that's probably a little much for a 1 year old.
DS wants to sit up *so* bad, but he's just not quite there yet. Poor guy - he gets really mad.
Hope everyone is doing well!

We had our first trip to the zoo yesterday. Tristan did great. I can't wait to take him again!
He has seemed better as far as being sick, but last night he was coughing really bad. He kept gagging and it was just horrible. I am going to call his ped today.
His tooth is going to pop in any day now. Like Jenzen I think he is getting a bottom side tooth before the middle. I hope it comes in soon. He has been in a lot of pain from that.

Logan turned 6-months on Saturday. I know everyone else has said it already ... but I just can't believe it!
Simultaneous with turning 6-months, he took two naps in his crib (1-hour each) on Sunday!!!!!!!!!! That was such a major stepping stone in our household ... I couldn't believe it was happening!!! And, simultaneously, he started being able to sit unsupported for a very extended amount of time on Sunday. He can't get to a sit position by himself, but if I put him on the floor in a seated position he can keep himself that way. However, when he is laying down, he tries SOOO hard to bring himself to a sit ... he stresses and struggles and strains and his face gets beet red, and he grunts ... all to no avail, and then he gets really PO'd! LOL!
We went to a "mother's of multiples" outgrown sale on Saturday ... what chaos! But, he did really good until the very end of the line (he got bored from sitting in line). We got 7 outfits in the next size up, but that's about it.
I got some GREAT news on Sunday (no ... I'm not an RO yet. LOL!). I was reading my YMCA flyer and they are FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY implementing Saturday programs for parent/child type classes. They catered so much to the SAHMs that there was never anything for the WOHMs to do there with babies. But, April 28rd starts an 8-week session of Parent/Infant swimming on Saturday's at 10:00am (for infants 6months and older). WAHOOOO! I'm super-excited! Now, if only I can get over my fear of being seen in a bathing suit at this juncture. They are also doing Infant Movement classes (for parent/child), but the infants have to be 18 months or older. Oh well ... something to look forward to!

Well moved Easton this weekend to his own room. He still gets up 1-2 times a night, but it's still ok. He learned how to get his aaquarium to come on so uses his feet or hands and was turning it off and on the other day for a good 30 mins, was so cute.
I went to the store last night, ended up being out longer than expected due to a phone call, but J called to tell me he just got Easton calmed down, he was crying just about the whole time I was gone. I felt so bad.
We went and did a little shopping yesterday, got a maternity suit (never got one with Easton) and a shirt. Jarett liked them both and said to get them.
My appt is the 18th with the peri, will find out a due date and hopefully get to see the little one.

Simon started rolling from belly to back pretty consistently this weekend. He's done it a couple of times before now, but did it a few times in a row on both days and can flip over and back again sometimes. He does get frustrated about not always immediately flipping back, so it will be nice when he's got it down pat.
He also fell in love with our cats this weekend. He's been watching them for a little while now, but on Saturday I put him next to Duncan on our bed and said "kitty, kitty!" like always but this time, Simon grinned real big and reached out to grab the kitty. Dunc loves attention, so he actually was just sitting there letting Simon grab him for a couple of minutes. We repeated it with our other cat Connor, but Simon took to batting him in the face and he ran off.
holding bottle He grabs it sometimes, but doesn't seem to hold it yet. Of course he only gets about 1 bottle/week at home, so I don't know what he does with the bottles at daycare.
toys I'd like to avoid battery-operated toys as much as possible, just because I'm already sick of the baby music in things like the swing, activity gym, and mobile. Of course almost everything makes sounds these days, so we'll probably still have plenty of the battery toys.
MichelleRenee The zoo trip sounds fun, I can't wait to take Simon out to look at all the animals.
Rippy That's great that they're offering Saturday swimming for parent/infant. I should check if anywhere around here does that- I'd love it. Our library only has the infant group on weekday mornings which made me so sad.

I know! I was saddened that all of the infant groups (Mommy&Me, library groups, playgroups, etc) were on weekday mornings or afternoons. It made me sad that I couldn't do the fun bonding things that the SAHMs can do. I joined one playgroup because they advertised that they met 1-2 Saturdays every month ... and now that I'm in the group, I see that they don't. All of their meets and outings are M-F either at 9:30, 11:30, or 3:30. :(

Ericka--I never gave in and bought a maternity suit with DS. Instead, I was a hick and wore my old suit, stretching it out to the LIMITS! LOL. However, we lived out in the country at the time, so all I would do is put it on to go outside to paint a few pieces of DS's furniture. But boy-oh-boy the cowhands (who rented land and used the same driveway as us) got quite the view of my lovely increased bustline (I was falling out all over the place) when they unexpectedly stopped by one day! eek!
Rippy--Wow, sounds like you had a productive weekend! The sale sounds fab, and sitting up, sleeping the crib for TWO naps, and a swim class. That's great!!
MichelleRenee--The zoo is one of our mini-trips we have planned for a day this summer. We figure it's an easy place to take DS.
________________________
Well, I've quit on the CIO for naps for the time being. DS snoozes a bit when I feed him, so I guess that will have to do for now. I just can't take the screaming. He screams even if I am standing there by him, with my hands on him. Guess my guy takes after me--little to no sleep required. Definitely makes the day long though.
Still no real interest in sitting up at all. I've been trying to push the issue more lately to help him along.
We have been going on lots of walks lately--have any of you bought a UV screen for your strollers? I'd rather not have to slather the poor kid up just to stroll around the neighborhood for 1/2 hour.

midwestern - only got it cause DH liked the top, it wasn't too $$$ so it was ok. I didn't get a suit with my pregnancy with Easton, but we really weren't going anywhere with a pool either. This year we have Disney World and Disneyland.
Just use sunscreen and put on his sun hat for walks, since I only have to cover his arms a little and a little bit of his face, it's worked well for us.

Question for WOHMs ...
Have you noticed if your DC acts different on the weekends as compared to M-F ... specifically nighttime sleeping? M-F nights Logan will STTN ... then the weekend rolls around and he will consistently get up at 1am. Just wondered if anyone else had this issue.
Mostly likely it's due to the fact that the days differ from his normal weekday routine. He probably inherited my need for routines. :o  LOL. Just didn't know if anyone figured out a solution.
Rippy congrats on finding a weekend class. I too find myself surrounded with SAHM's busily getting together during the week. Also all the gymboree type classes seem to be during the week. I've been back at work for 2 weeks and so far DD keeps the same schedule on the weekends. We even transitioned her fromt he PNP in our room to her crib. She still sleeps from around 8 pm until 7 am. I consider myself lucky on both fronts.

bunnybeth Steven loves our cats, too! If he's in the right position when our cats rub back and forth on our legs, their tails tickle his face and he thinks it's great fun to try to catch their tails. Whenever he sees one of them he gets a big grin on his face and tries to grab them.
Rippy I seriously believe children know when their parents could get some extra sleep and they'll do anything they can to disrupt it. On our mornings off, our DC almost always wake up early, and then when we have to go to work, they sleep late. It's been 3 years of this with DD now, so we've just come to expect it.

Rippy, we are going to be starting parent & me swim classes this weekend too! I can't wait... I'm so excited!
UV Shade- We got this one from Babies R Us to use on our MacLaren stroller. We only used it a few times, but like it so far. It is called the RayShade, I think. http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-2868794reg.jpg
holding his bottle- Not really that I've seen... he doesn't get bottles too frequently at home. He tries a little but isn't too interested.
Jack is trying to sit up on his own now... it is so cute! And he has finally joined in on the grabing of the feet. He also likes to put his big toe in his mouth.... it is too funny.
Life is so busy these days... hope everyone is doing well!

Rippy Now that's just false advertising! WOHMs should get some mommy bonding to. I guess it's because we don't have as much time, but honestly as long as I can take the kiddo along on weekends, I don't mind going out. The parent & tot group at my church is saying they are thinking about starting a once/month weekend playgroup, and I'd certainly join in if they do.
Midwestern I can never stand to have Simon crying in his crib- fussing or complaining ok, but not crying. So, on weekends he doesn't tend to get much in the way of naps. I figure if he's just crying he's not getting the nap in anyways.
jbemommy It's just so cute to watch the babies interacting with pets, I think. Simon isn't big on tail grabbing yet, he's most fascinated by the shiny tags on their collars.
MichelleRenee Oh no, I hope Tristan feels better soon!

We sat in the tots pool the whole time and so the water just came up to their waists. Robyn just loves laying in the warm water sucking on her wet hands and then I put her on her tummy and floated her around and she kicked her arms and legs like she was swimming. It was SO CUTE!!! :D

Maplekitty--Does Robyn like baths, too? DS haaaaaaaaaaaates bathes, he holds his feet up out of the water, so only the tiniest part of his butt is in the water. Sounds like you had a fun time!!!
____________
I have a confession to make:
I am a wipes whore. I swear I go through a pack a week, and use upwards of 7 on those blowout diapers. There's just something about continuing to wipe DS's bottom with an "all ready used" wipe that grosses me out. Am I alone in this??
Ericka_Jarett
03-28-2007, 05:25 PM
wow midwestern, that's a lot of wipes. We use 2 wipes sometimes 3 (rarely), depends on how much his BM was. One wipe for the first wipe after used the front part of the diaper to get the worst if possible. second wipe to finish the rest of the clean up. I have 2 tubs of wipes, one up and one down, plus the travel wipe container. I have used 1 box (400 wipes), 1 (260 ct) refill and just now on 1/2 way through the 2nd 260 refill and Easton is almost 7 months. (His upstairs tub is full, downstairs is about 1/2 full and his travel wipe is full)
Seems like we have used more on the clothes (his and mine) then on his butt.
MidwesternGal
03-28-2007, 05:40 PM
Yeah, I kind of figured that was a lot! :o I do, however, always do the swipe and fold, so I get a couple of wipes out of one. 7 are usually reserved for massive blowouts. 3-4 is more typical, though. I do twice for everything, then once more for the nooks and crannies, to make sure it's all gone.
Oh--and Ben has popped TWO tiny corners of teeth through!! They just appeared today/tonight--upper side ones, one on the left, one on the right. The right side is a little bigger than the other though. As of right now, they're just small round corners that have peeked through. At least it's not the front, because I'd be weaning ASAP--one of the mommies I know IRL got bit and then massive infection afterwards. I plan to wean starting in April though, at least from daytime feedings. I'll probably keep night (before bedtime) and morning.
Tomorrow I'm going to give him a little rice cereal and see how he likes it. I was using the teeth as my "gauge" as to when to intro solids. My baby is growing up so fast!!! Awww.

Woooh, I’m a bit behind on this thread, oie! This is from a few pages back…
AF – Still AF free and loving it! :D
Congratulations, Erica on your pregnancy. I hope that you can avoid the problems that you had with Easton's pregnancy.
So am I the only one who hasn't started their DC on solids yet?
My DS is 6 months (and 9 days), and I still haven’t started solids yet. He’s starting to sit up on his own, which is a big one for readiness in my book, but I think I’m going to wait at least a few more weeks , especially since he was 5 weeks early.
Toys: I “sell” Discovery Toys (basically bought the kit so I could get my son’s toys cheap), so I have a lot of DTs – My son LOVES his Caboodle Cube (https://www.discoverytoyslink.com/ecommerce/control/product?PURCHASE_STATE=STANDARD&product_id=1061), Sunny Sounds (https://www.discoverytoyslink.com/ecommerce/control/product?PURCHASE_STATE=STANDARD&product_id=1059) and is just getting interested in Teddy Tower (https://www.discoverytoyslink.com/ecommerce/control/product?PURCHASE_STATE=STANDARD&product_id=1058)
naps - I usually wear DS in his Mei Tai until he falls asleep, then I'll untie him, lay him down and he'll stay alseeep for another 1/2 hour or so. Or if I don't feel like transferring him I'll just leave him strapped on to me (and he naps even longer- wooo!)

Bubeleh: have fun at the zoo! We took Tristan last weekend and it was so fun! There are pics in my journal. He loved looking around at everything and we loved sharing our favorite place with him! (I was surprised at how many newborns I saw there, though!)
Ericka_Jarett: great pic! He is so cute!
maplekitty: I can't wait to take Tristan swimming but I am worried about how the chlorine will affect his super-sensitive skin. I am glad you guys had fun though.
MidwesternGal: we were like that for the first few months while he was BF. Now that he is on soy formula his poops are so solid we really only need 1 wipe. I understand what you mean about not wanting to re-wipe after you already use 1. For bad ones I will use 1 wipe to get as much off as I can (refolding if necessary). Sometimes it takes 2 to get the whole mess off. Regardless of how many it takes to get the messy part cleaned up I always grab a final clean wipe just for one more quick little cleaning.
Nigellas: I am jealous you are still AF free! I had my first AF last month. Everyone said it would be so heavy and it would suck, but it was actually pretty light.... and has lasted almost 3 weeks now! Darn new birth control. BTW, I wanted to thank you again for the shower gift you sent to us. I am amazed every night when I walk in his room and the nightlight is still working. Is that little bulb ever going to burn out??? (I'm sure it will today now that I said that!)
************************************************** **
I'm sure everyone remembers when we were talking about when we would make the switch from our infant seats to convertible car seats. Well, Tristan is now 1 inch away from passing the max height. (he is still 7 pounds under the max weight though) He is getting tall SO fast! (Mike and I are both very short, BTW) I am amazed at how the other day I literally had to clear out his jammie drawer of all of his jammies that he had JUST WORN and get out his bigger stuff because he is suddenly too tall for everything.
I am worried about him passing the max height before his next appointment so I keep measuring him. We should probably just make the switch now, but I am so sad to be passing another milestone like that. What happened to my cuddly little newborn?
TM, can you please replace my collage on the front page with this picture?

I am so excited, finally Lauren is rolling over. It is somewhat sporatic (only 4 times so far) but at least it is finally happening. I was worried because it seems like she might be a little behind physically.
We started her on solids a couple of weeks ago. She seems to like banana's and sweet potatoes the most.
She is talking up a storm. Even the people at daycare said that she talks more then any other baby there. She is also the youngest too. Maybe she will be a super smart couch potato.
Have to go, she is stuck.

Hi all
It has been sooo long and I apologize. Life is crazy with my two little boys. Connor is really easy, but chasing after Eddie (a typical 2 yo) is a bit more challenging. DH has beeen so busy at work plus we boughtan apartment for investment purposes, so I get little help. That is why I'm not online...ever! Hopefully, I can find some extra time.
Connor is doing great. He rolls over both ways and is very chatty. We go to the docs on May 2. He'll start foods then. He is quite a joy.

Well, cereal went a little better this morning--no full body shudders, at least!!! DS still didn't swallow anything though. He's very interested in the whole process, the bowl, the food, the spoon--up until it's in his mouth.
How long did it take your DC's to "get it" when it came to swallowing? Maybe I should put it in a bottle, all souped up?
ETA: MichelleRenee--Weren't you and Mike just cracking up? DH and I were about crying, we laughed so hard!

Midwestern and MichelleRenee - Both way too cute!! Love the video and the pic of your boys!!
Grace did pretty well from the get-go with eating ceral. I was surprised. She ate most of it the first time and has been good since. Midwestern - did you make the cereal with EBM? And did you make it pretty soupy? That's what the box suggests. And then gradual make it thicker. Or maybe he's not 100% ready yet. Wait a week, then try again. I've read not to force it, or he may have bad feelings about it.
I made homemade pea puree last night for Grace. She liked it and didn't gag at all. I was worried about the texture because of the "skins", but she was fine. I was so excited about it. Mapplekitty - had Robyn tried and liked peas before? Maybe it wasn't becuase it was homemade, but rather just not liking peas? I tested out peas from a jar before taking the time to make some at home. Since she seemed to like the jarred stuff, I hoped she would like the homemade stuff also. YEAH - so happy!!

When I made it by the box directions, all of it ran out of DSs mouth and he didn't really like it much. So, the next time I made it thicker and he loved it and "got it" from there. I hear that you really shouldn't put it in the bottle unless the dr specifically suggests it.
It also can take up to 10 times for a baby to decide if he/she likes a particular food, supposedly.

Swallowing took awhile. At first the only way he'd swallow it was if I let him suck on the spoon as I put it in his mouth. I'd say by his 4th or 5th attempt he really "got" the concept of swallowing without having to suck on the spoon.
Now, a couple weeks later, he won't swallow cereal if he is really hungry or cranky. He just wants his bottle. So I try to feed him his cereal in between feedings.

Madison moved up to her big girl car seat. I ordered the Fisher Price Safe Voyage and I really like it! I was a little nervous because no stores around here sell it so I could not see it but I had read a lot of good review on it. It's made by Britax, only it was not the Britax price. The only difference I can see is that the fabric is not as soft as the Britax but the seat itself is nice and cushy and easy to operate. I figured this would be a good seat for DH's car but I'm almost thinking about getting another one for my car.
Isn't so much fun to watch our babies grow and develop? I'm loving it!
Have a good weekend everybody!

midwestern - definately DON'T put it in a bottle, that will just make him go backwards, he is old enough to eat it from a spoon. If you made it soupy, make it thicker next time, the directions on the box made it too soupy for Easton and so I made it thicker and it stayed in. He got it after the first bite. Easton doesn't care for Rice cereal, loves Oatmeal, I used the rest of his rice cereal to mix with his meal baby foods that were too soupy for him.

midwestern -at this point, food is just a learning experience - he doesn't *need* rice cereal for nutrition. If he's not ready to eat solids yet, maybe wait a few more weeks and try again. He'll let you know when he's ready.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I really do think he's ready to start solids. He has been watching us for several weeks now, and has recently started making "chewing" motions when we eat. He reaches for pop bottles, our food, our utensils, etc when DH and I eat.
DS is very excited to sit in his seat and he likes the bowl and spoon--in fact, he even reached out to help "bring" the spoon to his mouth (until he discovered he didn't like it!).
I tried it again tonight, except more soupy, and I kind of help the spoon in his mouth, so he'd suck at it like MichelleRenee mentioned. This time, a little did get swallowed.
I may try tomorrow and Sunday, and if it's still a no-go, I'll give it a rest for a week and try something different--he may just not like the rice.
Thanks again everyone!
Seems like a lot of babies are starting solids this week! AJ has had rice cereal and sweet potatoes so far. He's indifferent about the cereal but wolfs down the sweet potatoes. DH thought I was crazy for wanting to make my own baby food, but once he saw how quick (and cheap) I made up a batch a sweet potatoes he was all for it. I think we're going to try avacados next, though I do have a few bananas that are starting to turn.
