I did a search and come up with nothing.
I am going to be in Dayton, OH area next week. I was wondering if there were any places that anyone could reccomend to see or places to eat. My mom will be with me and I have training during the day. So if there is anything you reccomend for her to do during the day, and things that we could do at night. We both like pretty much any type of food, so I'd definitely like to try some local places, versus chains. I've been trying to look up some, but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.
Thanks!

I moved away from Dayton about a year ago, so I'm not up on all the latest but . . . I know they're in the process of building a nice new outdoor mall called The Green which is outside of downtown Dayton off of 675. Also, I don't know how into airplanes and stuff you and your mom are, but there's the Air Force museum (FWIW, I don't really consider myself "into" airplanes and stuff, but it's a pretty cool museum.) When I lived there, one of my favorite local places to eat was in downtown Dayton--The Dublin Pub. The Dublin Pub is right on the edge of the Oregon District, which has lots of other cute little restaurants and is considered, I guess, kind of the hip, young part of town. (Be warned, though--there are also several XXX shops in the Oregon District.) Hope that helps!
Will you be in downtown Dayton or the surronding area? Dayton isn't too exciting, but it is a nice little city. Your Mom could go to the Air Force museum during the day. It is pretty interesting even if you are not into planes. They have a seperate area on base (there is a bus that will take you to it) that has old Air Force 1's and a developmental hangar.
If you have never had Cincinnati style chilli then you will have to go to Skyline (there is also Goldstar, but I prefer Skyline) and get a 3-way (spaghetti, chilli, and cheese). It is a more local chain. If you like ice cream then go to Graeter's. The black rasberry chip is the best! There are a couple around, Beavercreek (near base), Oakwood (near Dayton), and Centerville.
Here is the website for The Greene, http://www.thegreene.com/.
I will try to think of some other things to do and places to eat!

krbb & em1126~ Thank you so much!
krbb I totally forgot about Skyline chilli! My cousin goes to school in Terra Heute and had told me about it. I'll definitely be making sure we get some of that. Thanks for the ice cream reccomendation, my mom and I definitely like to go out for ice cream.
We are actually staying at a hotel in the Fairborn area near Wright-Patterson. My training is in Kettering. So that kind of gives you an idea of where abouts we will be. That's good to hear about eh air force museum. My dad flew for years, so my mom's been exposed to it, but it eh eh, so at least I'll know she'll enjoy it.
Ah, yes...beautiful, sunny Dayton! I'm not a native, but I've lived here for almost 4 years now. I'd be willing bet that we work for the same company, too...
Favorite Restaurant: Thai 9, also in the Oregon District. Good Thai, decent sushi, and it's in an ooooold warehouse, so the building is neat too. There area couple other good, albeit pricey, restaurants there as well.
I second the Dublin Pub. The food is good, and the beer selection is fantastic.
The Greene is very nice. It's at Exit 10 on 675, which is the Dorothy Lane exit. About 2 exits south of where you will be staying. There are restaurants there, but they're all chains.
There's also a fantastic Italian restaurant called Mama DiSalvo's which is in Kettering. I'll give you directions if you want. Other than that, Dayton is the epicenter of chain restaurants, I swear!
Things to do? Hmmm...;) Definitely hit the Greene. There's also an outlet mall about 45 minutes east if your mom is into shopping. They have a Pottery Barn outlet which often is worth the visit.
It's also an easy hour's drive to Cincinnati if you're up to it in the evenings. You could hit Newport on the Levy for dinner.
If I think of more, I'll let you you. Feel free to PM me...

mkvh~ Thanks! Its ok if its a chain type city. ;) I'm just always into trying local first. :)
Might have to check out those outlets, since mom doesn't have any that close. She'll be here soon so that we can pack so I'll have to see if there is anything in particular she is looking for.
I'm into local as well, and where I'm from, there were LOTS of local resaturants. I miss that!
