currently i have mostly hip-hop -- ludacris, 50 cent, tupac, ja-rule, etc. at the end of my mix, i have a few random non-hip-hop songs that get me going: everclear's "heroin girl", weezer's "my name is jonas," smashing pumpkin's "hello kitty kat," paul oakenfold's "starry eyed surprise," and third eye blind's "blinded". it all gets me through my runs, even when i don't really want to be running ;)

i also have a "folder" on my mp3 player full of dave matthews -- every now and then i listen to dmb on the elliptical at the gym, especially when i'm going for a super-long workout and am not interested in breaking any elliptical world records or anything.

-This is How a Heart Breaks: Rob Thomas
-Kanye West: (anything)
-Daniel Powter: (anything)

Anyone have a good playlist they'd like to share?

Great topic!! I generally just hit shuffle and skip over the songs that aren't good for workouts... I really should make a playlist.

I also really like working out to the Rent musical soundtrack... Most of the songs are inspiring and you can get lost in the story, which makes the time fly.

craftyT - That's a great list!!!

I was browsing on iTunes the other day and found that they have a lot of workout mixes in there! I downloaded a few from "Running to the 70's." I'll go and check how I found the playlists and get back on here.

Here are my latest downloads:

"Don't Bother" by Shakira
"Pretty Vegas" by INXS
"Dance Dance" by Fall Out Boy

I know there are more... I'll check my iTunes and write back! Gotta head to a meeting!

I got my iPod in October, but I'm just now starting to work on playlists for working out. Right now, I'm going through my highly rated and skipping ones that don't fit. But here's what I'm liking so far:

Mr. Brightside, The Killers
Somebody Told Me, The Killers
(I'll sometimes listen to my entire Killers Playlist)
Du Hast, Rammstein
Roadhouse Blues, The Doors
LA Woman, The Doors (when you need 7 more minutes of motivation!)
Personal Jesus, Depeche Mode
I Feel You, Depeche Mode
Hot Stuff, Donna Summer
You Sexy Thing, Hot Chocolate
Land of 1000 Dances, Wilson Pickett
Without Me, Eminem
Eleanor Rigby, Godhead
Even Better Than The Real Thing, U2

This is my (incomplete; I can't remember them all) mix from when I would do the elliptical a couple years back:

"I'm A Survivor" - Destiny's Child
"Chilli Hot" - Us3
"Cantaloop" - Us3
"Lady Marmalade" - Moulin Rouge soundtrack
"You're my First, My last, My everything" - Barry White
"I'm Too Sexy" - Right Said Fred
"Kiss" - Prince
"Buena" - Morphine

I really like remixes for workout songs... they usually last longer. Lady Marmalade, I'm Too Sexy, and Kiss were all remixes on my CD (I didn't have digital back then).

Oooh! I love this topic. I tend to listen to faster beats and 80's skating rink music like "let the music play" ... freestyle like Stevie B and even some older hip hip like "Freestylers Anthem" ... yes I'm a geek!! And, of course, my favorite is house. I'm going to go find my ipod now, and I'll post the list later. Love this topic!

I posted this to my journal but thought I'd get a lot of feedback here (and I hope other people can use some of these ideas too).

Please share some of the songs you have on your running/gym playlist. I have some goodies but I've made so many lists (and, way back when, mixed tapes) that I'm getting tired of my old favorites.

TIA!

I have two "work-out" playlists on my ipod right now. They both have about 75-80 songs apiece on them. I will be back later to post as my Ipod is at home and I'm [sadly] at work. I'm loving some of the ideas for new songs to add from the other ladies here! Thanks!!

This is GREAT!

When I get home from work I'm just going to listen to every song I don't know on iTunes.

BTW... Do people use anything cheaper (or... dare I say it... FREE-er) than iTunes?

I use All of MP3 (http://www.allofmp3.com) for almost all of my song downloads. It is way cheaper and still legal.

I'll have to put mine on here when I have more time.

I'm a big country fan so if anyone has some good fast paced country songs I'd appreciate it. I've found that a lot of Garth songs are great for running-Fever, Rollin, Ain't going down till the sun comes up, etc.

See you all later!

mgrace - Did you already have the AC/DC CD? Or did you buy the MP3 online? I've been trying to find a couple AC/DC songs in iTunes and it looks like iTunes doesn't have a deal with the band (or label). (Though I did find an album of an AC/DC cover band. Needless to say... so NOT the same thing. ;))

I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for yoga music. The classes I had taken in the past always had it softly in the background and it was soothing to me. And now that I realized I am going to have to start doing it on my own just because of scheduling, so I need to find some to put on my ipod. TIA!
