View Full Version : Confess the silly things you do with your pets

I feel compelled to write this because I know that anyone who has a cat or dog invariably does and says the most silly stuff when they're with their pet. It's as if having a pet gives you an excuse to "drop your guard" and act silly.

Here's my example. I have the world's laziest border collie, Albert. He definitely gets by on his looks because he's, above all, a cutie with a puppyface. My young niece (4 years old) and nephew (2 years old) love him, too. I like to pick up Albert and chase them around with him. I'd hold Albert with his front paws held together in my left hand and have his butt and feet tucked under my right shoulder - holding him like a rifle. I call him my "dog gun" and chase around my niece and nephew making shooting noises: "BOW-WOW-WOW!"

I can't be the only one who does or says silly stuff with their pet. What do you do?

I have a pouncing game I play with my cat, Jade. I crouch on the ground behind the bed, and peak around the corner as she slowly inches forward, until finally she leaps around the corner, pounces on me, then runs back to start over! She loves this game.

I've found that you don't really have games with cats, they have games with you. Our Bella's favorite is to learn all these cute and complicated things, then act like a total drooling idiot whenever we have guests and make us look insane as we try to show off her tricks.

I sing to my dog. I also have long "conversations" with him. If DH is not home and I feel chatty, I snuggle with Ziggy and tell him all about my day. He doesn't usually contribute much to the discussion, but he's a great listener!

(I know, I'm crazy!) :p

I play "I'm gonna Get'cha!!" with my papillon, Cosmo. He loves it.

I also talk to the dogs (and I also speak their responses back as well).

I sing to my dog.
I tried to sing to my Lab, Lily, but she started growling at me. LOL.

My cat Fenway and I play fetch. Her favorite fetch "toys" are my hair elastics. I throw one across the kitchen and he goes flying after it, and usually slides to a stop just short of crashing into the wall, then brings it back to do it all over again.

Fenway plays a better game of fetch than Lily.

I love this thread!!

I play fetch with my kitty Max. He loves it when we throw toys so he can chase them across the room and bring them back. The catch is after you throw the toy and he gets it you have to say "Bring it back kitty cat" or he won't bring it back. It's really cute!

With our kitty Cleo I take a string and put it in my hand and drag it in circles and she'll run after it (in circles) until she gets it. So funny, makes us both pretty dizzy though.

Playing fetch (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25901)

We tie a cat toy to a long piece of ribbon, then tied the other end to the ceiling fan, and put it on low.

Hours of entertainment...

We have two cats, and DH and I are constantly narrating their conversations with each other... Mostly about how they think us people are silly. Occassionally they discuss politics and grocery lists (salmon, tuna, milk, treats, and anything that opens with a twisty-tie).

Our boy, Jack, is also a really good dancer (has his own dance called "The Jack"), singer, and does a damn good monologue on occassion (usually when DH is working on one for an audition).

My mom plays "Alien" with her dog. She straddles Misty's back and stickers the dog's nose up under her sweatshirt, and Misty knows to toss her muzzle back and forth, so she looks like the head of the alien trying to free itself from her stomach like in the movie "Alien."

So strange... :p

We make up new words to existing songs, and sing them to the cats:

You Are My Reilly (to the tune of "You Are my Sunshine") and "Menina" (to the tune of "Maria" from West Side Story (Menina, say it loud and there's music playing/Say it soft and it's almost like purring).

DH and I say, "Spa treatment!" and Reilly rolls over on her back, and we both rub her belly at the same time, and she purrs. Loudly.

Nina has little Matchbox cars, and she pushes them around with her paw. Sometimes, DH plays cars with her.

We give them bottle tops, and they play floor hockey.

We are NOT crazy, right? :o

When Gordy was still with us, all he wanted was to be held. So I would carry him around the house on my hip like a baby and he would wrap his legs around my neck and purr. :) He also slept with us under the covers with his head on the pillow.

I am silly along the same lines as ysolde. We sing Beau, Beau, Beau, Beau, Beau, Bar Ann, Beau Bar Ann.... which is obviously Barbara Ann. For Belle: Belle, Belle, you're raising hell, hell....because she usually is :D That's sung to some commerical jingle I can't remeber the name of.

I could probably pass for crazy because I carry on convo's with my turtle. Not even a fluffy cat or dog that could actually bark/meow but a turtle. He just sits in his tank and looks at me. (I do his responses...even he thinks I am crazy).

More often than not he has a foul mouth.....hey, it keeps me entertained.

OMG...we do the exact same thing. We also have a "voice" for out cats. Unfortunately, it's the same voice so it's sometimes confusing as to who is talking. :D What's really strange is that we made up the "voice" long before the movie "Office Space" came out, but somehow the "voice" sounds exactly like Milton (the red stapler guy) from the movie. When we first saw it, we said "OMG...he sounds just like the cat."

I play hide and seek with my dog. :o I'll run into the other room and hide behind a door or something waiting for her to find me. She usually races in and I can see her through the crack in the door. She whips her head back and forth trying to find me then runs out of the room to find me somewhere else. Then I yell her name again and it repeats until she can finally figure out where I am or I just come out because I feel bad that she can't find me. She's definitely not a smelling dog. LOL She has a heck of a time following my scent.

That is hilarious!! My girl cat has a princess voice because she's a little princess. Jack's voice sounds like he is perpetually bored with us and life in general.

Sometimes when Jack is sitting right next to us or in our lap or something, we'll start calling his name, saying, "Come here, Jack" and "Where's Jack?" It totally confuses him and he starts meowing like, "I'm right here!! Can't you see me?" Okay, that sounds mean - maybe we'll stop doing that one.

This is a crazy one - I have a car seat for our dog. It's like a little bucket that he sits in and he is held in my his collar, which hooks to the back. You can get it at PetSmart. We got it bc we had gotten a new car with leather interior and we didnt want him to mess it up. Hes a small shih-tzu and he looks so dadgum cute sitting it it, but people totally make fun of us!!

With Connor, we'll do "kitten curls" where we hold him across both our arms against our body, and then uncurl him down and back up again, like doing exercises. The funniest part is that he'll give a "meow" at the bottom of every curl, without fail.

With Duncan, I hold him up against me upside down and cradle him like a baby. If he's in the right mood, he'll close his eyes and purr and just stay there for awhile.
