Hi guys, I'm back. I don't have time to post a lot right now. This is my first opportunity to post since I broke out of the hospital yesterday. If you want to read my birth story, go ahead and friend me on LJ (jlormberget). I will check back and make sure to friend you back if I haven't already.

I just wanted to find out if I was - in fact - the first August mommy? I need to come back and find out how everyone is doing, but I am hopelessly behind.

I must run off and feed the little one (who is oh so beautiful, if I do say so myself), but I will be back. I've been thinking about all of you and hoping that you have a short (relatively comfortable) time left.

To answer the question that was posed before I went into labor - Yes, I am most definitely staying an August mommy - if you'll have me.

Melissa- That is great news, you made my day. Good things come to those who wait! I just have a feeling you won't make it until next week, lucky you. And he should be good and ready anytime now that you are about 37 weeks. I have started to get things ready for my bag, but there isn't much to pack as of now. I will just have to do it all right before we leave or have Matt throw it together after birth and bring it to me. YAY...rub some of those good dilating vibes off onto me for tomorrow!! :D

I had a doctor's appointment this morning, and he was great! (not my regular ob, whom I also adore!) Mickey - I was getting a lot of cramping and pains in my groin, and he said it's perfectly normal. The pelvic bone is "disintegrating" and moving apart, so as to make room for labor. He checked and my cervix is still high and tight.

I asked him about frantic kicking. The What to Expect book talks about the kick test, and says to call if anything feels frantic. Well, I've been frantic because I can't tell the difference! I asked the doctor today, and he started swearing a blue streak! He wanted to know which book it was, and said he'd send them a letter. He called the authors "asses", and kept asking me why they'd tell a pregnant lady that because there's no way to tell. I kept saying, that's why I'm asking you. He said all kicks are good kicks, and not to worry. :D I think Bridget's not very graceful (like her mommy!) because when she rolls around, it's this total production. She puts her whole body into it. It reminded me of helping my overweight great aunt out of her recliner. At least now I won't worry that she's frantically signalling to me that she's in danger.

We made out like bandits at the shower. We now literally have everything we needed. And the clothes are all so adorable! My sisters were very creative - they folded the napkins like diapers and pinned them with diaper pins, they spelled out our names, Bridget's name, and her due date in wooden blocks. They gave out 5 or 6 big prizes, so everyone had a time written inside their place card. They randomly set a timer, and every time it went off, it was "Bridget" wanting something. It was funny. Even if I was in the middle of opening a present, I had to stop to take care of the baby. And the times were totally random - 4:12am, 11:24pm, etc. In fact, they used anniversary and birthdays to come up with the times! The weird part was, all of the times I ended up picking were in the middle of the night. DH works nights, so he was laughing because he missed all of her "cries". This better not be a preview of what's to come!

I thought we might have more babies after this weekend, but it looks like some of you are pretty close!!

Melissa such great news sounds like things are really moving along keep us posted!

Janet so glad to see you back! can't wait to see pics!

Sonya hang in there it sounds like you don't have much longer!

Sarah sounds like you made out on your baby shower as well. Isn't it wonderful that our friends and family are so generous!!

Kim get some rest, and keep baking ya hear!!

Well I am still waiting for the lady from the store to call about my glider. I looked online last night to see if I could find my glider somewhere else, and no luck, for one it will still take 4-8 weeks to get and the ones I found where more expensive!! I am going to express my frustration with this issue when she calls along with the fact that we had a few other minor issues with the furniture we ordered and hopefully we can at the least get the glider for the same price. we'll see!

I have this strange calmness today.
Meditative of sorts, I realize that this pregnancy is coming to a close, and life as I know it will be changing forever. Normally that would make me anxious, but instead, its a calming peace as I think back on the memories of my family - the good and the bad times; the family times of camping and playing with the cousins and it brings such a feeling of love and peace, that I know I have nothing to be anxious about.
I haven't been emotionally connected to the pregnancy through most of it - filled with anxiety instead. Now its like this calming peace has decended and no matter the little stuff, as the circle continues and we will be whole and complete.

I have this feeling now, as if I made this mental switch to "im ready now" and "everything will be okay". My MIL and family that usually causes me angst, well - psbbth...who cares. They are just a blip in the grand scheme of things.

Sarah ~ I saw your question about diapers and buying the newborn size. I would suggest that you buy at least 2 packages. Kaeden was 7 lbs. 14 oz and 20 1/4 inches long and the size 1 diapers were huge. He went through 2 packages of the newborn huggies.

Thanks Kelly!! It's good to know so I don't have to run out and go get them after he's here and worry about all that. Thanks!

Tina I have to say I, too, got a sense of calmness after reading your post. I was just hit with the reality and shock that I'm going to have a newborn of my own to take care of in a few weeks...it overwhelmed me for a moment and I felt very weak and scared and generally INCAPABLE. Come what may, we're MOMS and we are going to do a damn good job caring for our little ones! Perhaps now that you are in this new state of peacefulness, you are officially R.E.A.D.Y. and these little gents of yours will come on out and meet the world now!

snowzilla
07-18-2005, 10:44 AM
Hmm, I'd have to disagree about the newborn size - I'd buy one bag, or if you do buy two, don't open that second bag in case you have to return it. My son was 8 pounds and change, and he didn't wear the newborns for very long. He was into the size ones right away.

I think whatever sizes you buy, the key is to keep the receipts, and don't open them unless you have to. You can always send hubby to exchange them. :)

hopefully we can at the least get the glider for the same price. we'll see!
Sweetheart I would push for them doing a rush order on WHATEVER glider you want now. THEY screwed up.

Question for you - does your bed have things that cover up the silver bolts on the side? Mine doesn't it just seems a bit odd to me. Curious if your bed had that too?

Feel free to skip this - you'll probably think I am lame.
So this weekend we had our Prepared Childbirth Class. OMG I AM IN TROUBLE! Ladies I don't know if ANYONE will understand or anything, but I am just so in trouble. The birthing class was a very difficult for me. I had to leave class a couple of times - during any videos. I was shaking thru half of the class. I almost fainted at the CARTOONS of a woman giving birth. I cried all thru lunch over it. B was seriously concerned. It was bad. Someone just mentioning vaginal birth and what happens makes me want to
puke - I have dry heaves and have to stop myself from hurling. The nurse there - whom we spoke with over lunch because B was so concerned on me handling it said I could have a drug called Stadol. It soulds like it could be the best option for us. They will not let us have a c-section ~ which I HONESTLY wanted to just be knocked out and not have to deal. Maybe if I don't know what they are doing to me I would be okay. So Stadol may be the answer.

More weekend update in LJ - everyone should be added now - if not let me know! :D

edited bec I take too long and there were a ton of replies already.

Tina - thanks for your calming post...I am going to keep reading it. You are one strong lady.

Good info on the diapers - I need to check out what sizes we have LOL!

Stacey - I would definately talk with your doctor about your options for labor. Its totally normal to be anxious for labor - after all, you've never done it before!! There's lots that can be scary and painful and down right yucky. BUT...your level of anxiety sounds particularly high! I don't know anything about Stadol, so maybe that is your best option. But maybe your doctor has some other options, as well, that can help ease some of your feelings before labor starts. You just sounds so terrified about the process. :( I'm not saying I blame you - I've been through it once, and on Friday, when I started having some really intesnse contractions and thought we were going in to the hospital, I started getting a little panicy myself. Its a hard thing your body has to go through, and I think the anticiaption and the not knowing how you are going to handle things physically and emotionally just add to the stress. I hope you and your doctor can come up with some good alternatives to help it be as positive an experience as it can be for you!! Hang in there - and know that you'll get it done!! One way or another! :)

I took the dog walking this morning - it was a beautiful morning!! I could have walked longer, I think. I found a good hilly neighborhood, and have a feeling we'll be visiting it often this week if I can't convince this girl to get moving! :) I'm officially term today - 37 weeks, and feeling better then I have in weeks. I'm finally ok with this pregnancy and knowing that its about to come to an end, and all seems to be well for once! Kind of like Tina, I'm feeling much more calm about things. It probably has to do with knowing that I have, at most, 7 more days, before I finally meet my daughter. AHHHH...can't wait!!! :D

Thanks Sonya. YEah it is a bit more anxiety. I guess I should clarify - I have ALWAYS been like this. When I had to learn how to deliver a child for being a lifeguard (state law had to watch a film) I actually closed my eyes, and was nausiated the ENTIRE time - always called it the best damn BC for a 16 year old. Then when my sister had her baby they all wanted me at the hospital, but I refused. Well when I went over to see pictures of the baby they slipped one of him coming out. I immediately hurled. I mean it was like I could not help it. I was shaking.

I know I am just a big baby. I TRY to be strong - the episiotomy video I stayed in the room for...had to close my eyes and cover my ears but I was there! I am just a big baby about anything to do with the doctor down there really. I bawl at all the yearly appointments...it is just hard.

We went and got me a sports bra that is big enough so I would at least not have any boobs showing. Also are going to go get some nursing tanks. I don't know I am just weird I guess. Dude I am crying at my desk just typing this - WHAT A LOSER I AM!!!!

Stacy, *BIG HUGS*! I wish I had some words of comfort, but I'm in the fear of the unknown department, too. I just keep telling myself that women have been having babies for a long time-and some women do it over and over again! How bad can it be really?;) Stadol might be a good choice for you. One of my former co-workers had that and she said she was COMPLETELY out of it during the entire birth. Her description of her reaction to it almost sounded like she was drunk or high. lol She said she felt no pain at all-they had to tell her when to push and she was just pretty much sleepy and loopy.

Sonya, your post reminded me that I am now full term also. WOO HOO!!!

I'm working on getting to the place of peace that some of you are at. I think the best thing to do is stay busy. I decided to play with my Epson Picturemate that we bought weeks ago and has still been in the box. This thing ROCKS! Being in that baby state of mind, I'm printing up pictures of my BFP's and pictures from when I told Sal I was pregnant. I'm thinking now is a good time to have them printed and on hand for whenever that day comes that I can start my scrapbook for Luke. :D

OK...I have no one else to tell right now, but i'm sitting here at my desk freaking out...I'm definitly having regular contrax. However, only about every third one is really painful. I have a couple of instances where they are piggybacking. I don't want to call anyone or say anything yet. Not until i'm in pain or i'm forced to have to decide whether to drive home or not. I don't want this to be another false alarm like the other day. I'm trying to hang in there and see if they stop. I just had to tell someone so I was sure it was real.

I know that I should call the Dr. and I will if it gets bad enough. Right now I just want some *make it the real thing* vibes. That way I won't make a fool of myself.

I'm freaking out!

Melissa - I'd go ahead and leave work. Is it possible (easy) to drive yourself home while having contractions that often??

michael'sbride
07-18-2005, 12:19 PM
Not sure how long they are lasting, they feel like at least a minute as I don't have much down time between them.

ETA: Driving home is what i'm really afraid of. I live an hour from here and the OB and Hosp are only about 10 minutes each. If I go all the way home and its the real thing then I have an hour ride back in rush hour. I'm trying to wait it out so that I know what the right decision is. UGH!

Luckily, my Aunt works about two buildings away. I think I may just call DH and have him drive out this way. Worst case scenario, its nothing and we just go home. I think that's what i'll do.

Why can't there be like a labor sensor that goes off? Yup, this is the real thing, go straight to the hospital, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

I think I would scoot on over to the hospital so if it is the real thing you don't have to drive all the way back. Can you drive now you think? It'd be good to get checked at the hospital anyway and figure out what is going on! Good luck babe...keep us posted if you can, my fingers are crossed for you!

I had major cramps this weekend - really NOT fun! I almost called the hospital at one point because I was half-thinking that things were happening. We decided to hold off and see if it continued overnight. It didn't, but man oh man, they were painful! I also think I can finally recognize a BH - I was mistaking them for the baby moving, so I guess I have been having BH too.

We have Bfing class tonight and I am also supposed to have my 36 week appointment the next evening....I may have to reschedule that as things at work are busy and I am being left in charge for a couple of days - means I can't really get out early to the appointment.

Hope everyone is well!

Stacy I can understand your fears, I always said I was going to adopt because I was so afraid of birth...and here I am - facing labor. It is scary, I totally understand where your coming from! Its one reason why I would rather opt for a c/s, and would prefer to be totally out for it! After round one of false labor though, its like now, I *can* do this. Its not so scary after being faced with it, at least for me. Is stadiol sort of like valium?

Good luck Melissa and Lora!! I hope that this is it for both of you!

As for me just plugging along. We went to a family reunion last weekend in 90 degree heat with no air conditioning. By the tme we left my legs were so swollen that I could hardly move them. Luckily all the swelling was gone in the morning. I guess that will teach me

I am going to pedicure party tonight. Really looking forward to that! I had to paint my toenails last night. That was just a chore :)

I don't fully understand but here's what the text said:

3 cm 7 to 8 min going waling WHAT does this mean???

And that's it!!! I called her phone and left a message for her or Rusty to call me back and I haven't heard from either of them yet, but AS SOON AS I DO I will be back!!!

ETA - ACK I was so hurried in posting that I didn't say good luck to Melissa!! Hope this is it!!

And also Stacy...I'm SOOO with you on the labor thing, I wish you had another option. :( Please hang in there, and by all means try to talk to your DR again about your anxieties! It's not healthy to have this stress on you or little one! Not now, not during labor either! Hugs!!

Wow, what an exciting day! I'll have my fingers crossed for Lora and Melissa.

I think Lora must have meant "walking" too - I'm way behind on posts - is she AT the hospital right now?

I just had the nastiest experience at Costco. Went to buy all of the things I need for my freezer casserole project, and was standing at the till, paying for my purchase. Suddenly, this shopping cart rams into me, almost knocking me down! I look up, and this old man is trying to push his cart past me and the cash register, even though you can barely fit a cart through there, let alone a cart AND a person (let alone a cart and a PREGNANT person!).....before I could even utter a word, he rammed me again and snarled, "ExCUSE me!" like I was in the wrong for standing in HIS way. I was totally in shock - normally I'm the kind of person who would rip him a new a$$hole, but I was so taken aback, and my kids were standing there watching.

I don't know if he was senile or what, but I'm going to have a monster bruise on my hip. I'm so ticked off about it - it happened over an hour ago and I'm still fuming.

OMG how cool!!! Perhaps babies on the way!!!
Good luck Lora and Melissa! :D bring the babies on!

Appointment update I'm really happy with how things are going on. Dilatation/effacement : I'm now a good 3 ++ cm, and I'm 80 % efface. Doctor looks really please. According to doc, he is really low, (I'm now mesuring 31 weeks!!!), he really is laying in my hips. Which is a good thing because it stimulates my cervix to open more.
Weight : I'm really giving a hard time to my doc about this. He started by only palpation, and told me "oh, that is going to be a small baby, not even 7 pounds" but then after making the internal, and mesuring him by pushing him into my cervix, his mind changed!!! I'm finally going to have a good 7,5 pouders. He just couldn't believe how much place he has got in my hips! So I guess I'm a good hidder!
The weird thing is I really feel like I have a baby in my panties lately!
due date : Well, looks like it is going to be this week or weekend. He had told me last week that he thought 38-39 weeks would be my weeks, and he is still constant about it. He told me at MOST 10 days, but he didn't really beleive I would be able to hold on that long since my cervix is now really soft. So his feeling, this weekend, but anytime could really be possible now. This weekend would be awesome as far as timing for DH, this way he could have 3 weeks of vacay in a row. My feeling, is that it is going towards the end of the week. I really wanted to have a Lion, (because in my family, we are 4 cancers!) and I think that somehow, it will happen. The signs change on July 23th. I also really wanted to have a August baby, but this one, it doesn't look like it will!
Knowing this, I'll really take this week to enjoy stuff that I want to do, read, watch movies, and enjoy the pool. I'd love to do a movie night, you know a couple of movies in a row, until late at night.
I'm really glad that I will make it so far, and yet not be late. 38-39 is good for me. Not too early, not too late. (well, if that is what really happens!)

Janet Good to see you around!!! I'll def go and read your story once you friended me!

Leslie You look super nice girl! And don,t worry, remember how things can turn in a matter of minute sometimes!

I'll be checking in the progress for some of us tonight! GOOD LUCK GIRLS!!!!! :D

ETAČ so many things happen since I began my post!
Thanks Kim for the update!
Go Lora!!! Hoping it will work for you.
Still no news from Melissa!!! Crossing fingers for her! It would be such a good date :p :p

OH! and thank to all of you girls for all your birthday wishes !!! :D

Ugh, Carla! What a jerk off! I am always amazed at the people that cut in front of me and what not. Completely clueless. Yes, I do expect special treatment because I am pregnant, dammit! :p

Okay, I am watching such a dangerous show. Semi-Homemade Cooking With Sandra Lee on the Food Network. She has made about 6 different cookies in the past half hour and I'm dying over here!

Off to get ready for lamaze. I'll check in when we get home-maybe there will be some news??? :D

Carla Holy Crap! That guy is a joke! Someone should have totally confronted him - no one should be rammed with a cart, let alone a pg gal. I would be so angry, too...I'm fuming for you!! What is wrong with people - they treat dogs better than othre people sometime.

Thanks Kim for the update on Lora! Such excitement around here! I bet she's pooped, but it sounds like her little guy will be here very soon, wow!

Val Great news from your appt! I think this weekend you will have your baby boy...just a guess! ;)

Wow! Such activity going on in here!

Keeping my fingers crossed for Lora and Melissa!!

And Carla, why do these strange stories always happen to you!? You poor thing!!! Ouch!

Leslie - You look great! Honestly - my belly is huge - it would put yours to shame. I think it was 44 inches round the last time I measured it! yikes! My waist used to be 25!

Sarah - I finally got to see your pictures from home. Looks like you made out great at the shower!

As for me - we have our last ultrasound appt tomorrow morning. I'm fully expecting them to tell me the baby is 9+ pounds since he was almost 7 a month ago! I plan on then going directly to my ob/gyn and begging to be induced! ha!

Carla-WTF? What is wrong with people. I think I would have made a comment out loud to him. I get so furious when people do that.

Leslie-Yum!, I love that show and all the easy good ideas.

I can't wait to hear more about Lora and something about Melissa! Wow more August babies on their way!!

Not posting much today. I'm exhausted and need a break. But I've been reading along and wanted to send my 2 cents.

Best baby vibes for Lora and Melissa !!! I hope this is it!

Bombedier I have a question for you. You said that you were mistaking BHC for baby movement. Can you elaborate? There are times when my stomach does get really hard, and I think it's because baby girl is "leaning" or pushing against me. But I've started to wonder if it's something different. I'd love to hear how yours are.

Today is my first day off work. I actually refuse to do anything today. I know there are errands, etc. but I figured I'd take one day and stay in my pj's until the last minute. I do have a BF class tonight, so I'll have to get up eventually. Friday, we had our last (5th) shower - the people at work. It was really sweet. We got lots of practical gifts. Not really off the registry (only one person) but things like clothes, diapers, baby wash, etc. One tub was full of goodies. Unfortunately, no gift receipts so the tub (our 3rd) can't be returned to Target (?? not without a receipt??) and we know own two activity gyms.

We also took an infant care class on Saturday morning. It showed us how to dress the baby and give baths, etc. Pretty informative. Then we went to breakfast, which was nice. Spent the rest of the day at BRU buying a few more items. Now we have to spend our many Target gift cards, and hopefully, we'll be close to done.

I have to admit that I am really jealous of everyone making progress. Not in a bad way, but I seem to be making very little progress. I'm due 8/2 and it seems like I'll be one of the late ones. So many of you are due weeks after me, and are making progress! Good for you, but my girl seems to be TOO comfortable to want to move. I'm trying to make peace with it, esp. since I'm just starting "vacation" and have lots that I want to accomplish. Whatever, I'm rambling.

WOWZERS!! We've got babies on the way!!! :) Melissa and Lora Hang in there ladies!!! Hoping the next few go smoothly for you both! Can't wait to hear updates!!!

Speaking of updates - I posted in my LJ...as I don't have a buddy, if news shows up in there, feel free to post in here, anyone who see it. I have two friends that I can call, and either of them will post if anything starts to happen. Now...if only something would start to happen!!

I have a very clingy two year old who is insisting on sitting on my lap, so typing is difficult. But, for moms of one or more already...have you noticed a change in your older child? Tallie has turned into velcro in the last two days, which is such a change from her normal independent self. Between her and the dog, who also can't see to let me out of his sight, I'm starting to desperately need some space! I'm guessing they are both sensing changes but yeesh...I'm getting clausterphobic! (sp???)

Off to get ready to get Tallie's hair cut - I'll be back shortly to check for good news!!! :)

Wow, I hope everything is going great for Melissa

I won't have constant access to my computer for a while(probably two weeks), only in the evenings and at night.

We had our class this weekend. We were 2 1/2 hours late cause we had been goin nuts and forgotten about it. I didn't miss much, other than the couple that were late and left shortly after that to go upstairs cause she was in labor. I found out that I will get to choose my own menu and when I want to eat, and that the new mommies can raid the fridge for snacks. I was really happy to find out how secure the Mother and Baby floor is. And we got to see two new babies, I almost started to cry.
The labor excersizes that are supposed to make the baby shift worked very well as I was feeling a lot of pressure down there. I almost couldn't make it from the hospital to the car to leave, thankfully his head isn't pushing so hard.

I got myself in trouble and Daniel has ordered me to take it easier for now. I did so much Friday that I was having contrax. Daniel decided to time them without me knowing and found out that they were about 15 minutes apart. He yelled at me to sit. But since it was to make sure Ben is healthy, I didn't even do the smart @$$ed thing and bark like a dog at him. He threatened to tell the dr what I did if I didn't start to take it easier.

07-18-2005, 05:58 PM
Kat! I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were doing. Good for Daniel for making you take it easier! Listen to him, and enjoy the opportunity to sit back and relax.

Too funny you were so late to your class. Whats the exercizes they taught you? Was it the exercizes that made it hard for you with the pressure?
Glad you liked the hospital security, and yep, they take good care of mommas with the menu and such. When your in there, don't hesitate to ask for anything, even if its a snack (and if they hand you one little strand of string cheese, its fine to ask for more).

Umm.....quick question....and prolly TMI...but I don't know what this means...I remember them saying something about it, but I was so groggy I don't recall!

I just realized Im bleeding. Its not a trickle, like - I wipe, and wipe again and there is plenty more there. Im not GUSHING, but its seems to be steady. Im not contracting, belly is tight, but no pain except for some heartburn.

Is this like an urgent alarm or something? DH is an hour away on his ferry boat commute home. Hospital is an hour+ from home at this time of day.

Tina- You need to call in right away and I think they will want to see you. Do you have any one else who can take you to the hospital and wait with you until Travis can get there? I don't know what it means, but I do know my dr. said if that ever happened they want to see me asap. Plus you are so close to the end, it may be a sign. Best wishes and thank you for the pic montage!

Okay, I called the hospital and spoke with the charge nurse. She said at this point, bleeding is bleeding and to get in there. I have to wait for Travis to get home, should only be about another half-hour or so. I just threw the laundry over from the washer to the dryer so it doesn't mold, and am tidying up loose ends in case we don't come back home tonight.

Seems like it was a gush, and now bleeding has turned into a light trickle/spotting. Im going to feel stupid to get all the way down the hospital again if nothing is going on. Thats getting old. Besides, Im not having any contractions.

Tina, I hope you're on the way to the hospital now (not sure what the time difference is between you and I). The bleeding might be nothing, but it could also be a sign of placental abruption (separation). Better safe than sorry. I'll be thinking about you.

Argh-no word on Melissa, yet, huh? I'm thinking this is it for her!!!

Lora, how's that walking going???

Lamaze was good. One of the couples was not there because they were at the hospital! She was due 8/12 and had her baby either yesterday or this morning. So jealous! No hospital tour, they were too booked up, but we learned all about efacement, dialation, and pelvic station. I feel so informed! And we practiced our breathing, so I think I'm ready. ;) We went for hot wings after and I'm about to take my two Pepcid and call it a night as Sal is chomping at the bit to get on the computer. lol Will check in in the morning!

No news from me. Still having contractions. Can't really tell what the hell is going on. SOME type of sign would be great. :p Planning to go for a long walk in the morning. Tried spicy pizza for dinner. Ate some fresh pineapple for dessert. Hoping something works. :D I have to remember, though, that I am still only 36+2w. Okay, so the hot wings did NOTHING for me. Not even a bad case of heartburn. I slept like complete shit last night. I could not turn my friggin' brain off. Everything we learned in lamaze was running through my head and if I wasn't thinking about that, I was wondering how all of our mommies were doing. Wow for all of the moms in labor or almost in labor -- I have been walking around in a haze as if my due date is still 4 months away and I have plenty of time, but it's only 4 weeks from tomorrow and given the progress around here, it seems like it could happen any time!

Melissa -- Hope something is going on in there!

Lora -- Hang in there, it sounds like you are on the way, the little one just isn't *quite* sure he's ready just yet!

Tina/Travis -- Hope all is well and that they figure out the cause of the bleeding! Those guys sure are unpredictable at this point, aren't they?

As for me, I had my sonogram yesterday to check the baby's position, and HE IS HEAD DOWN!!! So no scheduled c-section for me. Now of course, that doesn't rule out the reality that I could be in labor forever and end up with a CS anyway, but at least we will be trying for a vaginal delivery. I had sort of come to peace with the idea of the CS, so I'm fine with it either way, and actually think that going through the few days of thinking that I would have one and getting comfortable with it will help me in the end if I need to have one during the labor process. I have another appointment today and am hoping for some news other than "your cervix looks like you are 5 months pregnant." Refresh my recollection -- what besides sex, walking, spicy food, pineapple, and castor oil (which I'd never try for the life of me) are supposed to work?

I hope everything is going great today.

Our friend is really upset with us, it turns out we have similar rules to her parents. I am so tempted to say that if she doesn't like it she can move. It is really hard to deal with someone who is 18. She thinks that having to keep similar hours to us isn't fair and contributing to the phone bill and having to talk to us about having friends spend the night. Oh well, I don't want a loud party house. It is getting stressful.

Tina I don't know what caused me to feel that way, but it was to the point it felt like my cervix was being pinched by his head with every step. I think you are the person that asked.
Sorry to hear you are back in the hospital. I will have to check in tonight to find ot if anything happened.

Oh well it is time for me to get off so Dad can use it.

Add me to the list of crappy sleepers! UGGH! Between Tallie's belly ache and my insomnia and DH's total bed hogging, I think I snuck in an hour or two. It would figure that DH and I are both battling sleep issues - he was diagnosed with sleep apnea the week before I started leaking fluid (so back in May), and we've been trying to get that squared away for him. It is such a pain! He's now on sleeping meds, in the hopes of that helping him wear his breathing mask longer at night, and it makes him really cranky and sleep very deeply. I finally gave up fighting for the bed with him and went to doze on the recliner. I'm looking forward to snoozing this afternoon with Tallie!

Trying to figure out a good walking route for this morning. And, maybe we'll have more news of progress from people?! :)

Congrats Melissa and welcome Evan!

Just got back from the doc. He felt silly that he sent me for an u/s when baby's head is down. Cervix is still completely closed, although he did dig around up there (yuck! ouch!) and feel mr. man's head. U/S showed recurrence of slightly enlarged kidney (we had that show up before) and doctor said they would just do an u/s on the baby after he is here. I don't know what it is, and maybe it's just that I am so tired, but I can't worry anymore. I feel like, whatever is going to happen at this point is going to happen, and we will deal with it one way or another and everything will be fine. I guess that's a good attitude, but not something I'm used to feeling (I'm a total stress case, as you guys know). Maybe it's the same sort of thing you are feeling Tina, this uncharacteristic sense of calm...

I just now got chance to check in.

Congratualtions to Melissa and Evan!!!!

BH contrax - maybe I have been having them after reading that they feel like the baby is pushing against you. I feel this a lot more lately. I think last night she dropped some. I feel more pressure below my bikini line in the front, but not at the cervix. Does that even make sense?

Holy Moly I am gone for a day and all this excitement that I missed!

Welcome Evan!!!

Cramping sounds like a bunch of use are feeling this lately myself included and like the rest of you I sure hope it means something is happening, or else this is just cruel!!

Stac no my crib doesn't have anything to cover up the the screws, mine are gold though I wasn't sure at first if I liked it, but know that I look at it I think it gives it a little more character. I think we notice it more because our cribs are so dark. But this doesn't stop me from *loving* my crib, know if only I had my glider
BTW pineapple is a natural source of pitocin which reminds me I need to go get some fresh pineapple tonight!!!

Yesterday I had a pregnancy massage and a prenancy milk bath at the spa (one of my shower gifts) and can I tell you how wonderful this was!!! Even my swelling seemed to go down for a little while, not for long though it's back! If any of you get a chance to do this, it is so worth while!! I have one more gift certificate to use I think I may have to do it again next week :D

Last night at my BF'ing class the instructor told us to "stock up" on everyday items that if we were to run out of we would need to pick up ASAP, like toilet paper, toothpaste, dog food, deodorant, snacks ect. made sense I hadn't even thought about that. But who wants to run to the store right after having a baby, or better yet sending DH to pick up some Kotex :D I am sure he would just love me for that! So besides picking up the house today, I am off to make a list of needs!
I feel like I am planning for a trip that I don't know when I'll be taking.

Okay how weird it this I feel like my little peanut has the hiccups, but I feel them in in my back towards my butt! by far the weirdest feeling!

Congratulations, Melissa, Michael, and Drew! Welcome, Evan!

Things are hopping over here now! I wonder if they'll really send Tina home, or if they'll take the babies. I mean, she's past her due date for twins, and if she's got any bleeding, I think they might do a C-section and get them out. I hope they do whatever's best for all three.

Can't wait for more updates!

THAT IS SOOO TRUE!!!

Hiccups - Maybe your little guy is facing the back now??? I don't know...just a thought.

Okay so Pinapple - I will HAVE to get that tonight! Pinapple smoothie at lunch sounds good too :D

Thanks for the info on the crib & on picking stuff up. I was worried a part was not included in ours. And yes MUST get stuff!!! Such a good idea. I cannot wait to be off work to get all of this DONE! I just have 1 more day.

Tonight we have our last part of the classes for newborn care...such an exciting anniversary date I KNOW!

OKAY if people would STOP giving me crap for A) drinking a HALF-Decaf Frappaccino and B) getting my hair highlighted this last month would be so much better!

Tina started the bleeding about 6ish PST. She said it slowed before she left. I hope all is well with her and she gets to meet her baby boys soon. She sounded really well last night when we were chatting so hopefully she is still doing the same.

Congrats Melissa!! and Welcome baby Evan!! I can't wait to see pics.

I am feeling so uncomfortable. The few maternity pants I have left barely fit anymore. Continuing to make it to work every day is so difficult. I think Trenton has dropped. I even felt him move (like a hand or something) well below my belly line, below my umm, hair line. I can't imagine him having much more room to drop before he is at my cervix. My hips are hurting and aching quite a bit now too. Widening I suppose.

I have 2 pages to catch up on, so I'm just going to hurry up and post this and then get caught up.

I got a mixed bag of news at my appt this morning...

The bad news: no progress (not surprised).

Worse news: she will not sign me out of work as she doesn't have a medical reason to do so. I had already checked with the HR dept last week and they said I do need a note to start my maternity leave early, so it looks like I will be working up until the end. After I started tearing up once she left the room, Sal said I should just quit now (since I'm not planning on going back anyway), but to me that's a possible 6 or 8 weeks of money for my leave out the window. Sure it's only 60% of my regular pay, but it's still money. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. Obviously I'm going to work tomorrow.

Now for the good news: due to the gestational diabetes, she will not let me go over my due date! HURRAY!!! They like for you to deliver right around your due date when you have diabetes. The problem is they really don't like to induce when the cervix is not ready because that increases the risk of c-section by 3x and of course they don't want you to have unnecessary surgery. Regardless, if I do not progress on my own by my 39th week, I will go in one night and have Misoprostol inserted in my vagina (sounds fun, no?) and then go back in the next morning to be checked to see if my cervix has softened and then I guess we go from there. She said we will talk more about it next week. In the meantime, I'm thinking I need to start going for some looooong walks. Sal and I are hoping for around the 4th or the 5th. The 4th is a Thursday so he will be off, he can take a personal day on the 5th and then he's on vacation from the 6th on. I'm kind of mixed on how I feel about the whole thing. The thought of induction kind of scares me, but on the other hand, I feel like there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's not too far away. I dunno.

Off to go get caught up!

Congratulations to Melissa and welcome Evan!!

We're really going now! It is so exciting to see everyone moving forward.

Bombedier Thank you! I was really getting worried that I haven't been having any kind of contrax, not even BHC. Now, I can stop worrying so much. I knew they were fairly strong because I had to stop walking when they hit, but they don't really hurt.

DH and I had a BF class last night (our last class!). It was fairly interesting. The biggest thing was that the doll they give you was SO HEAVY!! And big. DH thought it was about 15lbs. Turns out, it's only 5lbs - so half the weight of a newborn. The head was especially heavy - it's all dead weight. Really shocking.

I wonder how many July babies we'll actually get? They're not even all from those of us due at the beginning of Aug. And I thought the same about Tina. She's already past her "due date" so if there's anything unusual happening, why not just take the boys? Still, I'm sure her doctors are on top of it (and I love that Travis wrote in for us! What a good hubby.)

Yay, this is so exciting! I was hoping to hear news from Tina, too, though. I hope everything is okay.

Just had my last ultrasound and boy oh boy has this baby grown! At my last ultrasound 4 weeks ago, he was measuring 6 pounds 11 ounces. Well, today the estimate is 9 pounds 5 ounces, and I'm still 2 weeks away from my due date!!! It makes me wince just to think about it! He is measuring on average 2 weeks ahead of schedule, but his belly measurements were 4 weeks ahead - he has some serious layers of fat on his tummy. The technician laughed when she pointed them out.

Baby is huge, but looks healthy - he was practicing his breathing, and even gave Momma a thumbs up.

So now I am terrified to delivery this turkey! He needs to come soon!!!! I'm going to beg my ob/gyn to induce me at my weekly checkup tomorrow! I have serious concerns about his size, and the fact that I may not be able to have any drugs. Also, even though Maternal & Fetal Medicine said that I don't have to have a csection (due to my platelet issues), they recommended that we avoid forceps or a vacuum during delivery. So as I see it, the longer we wait, the bigger the baby gets, and the bigger chance of him not fitting!

Leslie - That stinks about the no early maternity leave. I have that on my list to ask my doctor tomorrow too. Gheesh - what else do they expect us to deal with when we're feeling so crapola and not sleeping! I'm happy to hear though that you won't have to be overdue at all - at least you can focus on that positive tidbit and actually have a worst case scenario countdown until you meet your son! :)

Leslie I am SOOOO SORRY! Do you have vacation days you can just take? I know in CA the doctor said we were intitled to one month before the due date...but Pregnancy Disability lasted until the baby was born...

LOVE - OMG girl I hope your doc gives you good news tomorrow.

Speaking of which - I guess today is my last day - MY DOCTOR WROTE THE DAY WRONG! I thought it was starting tomorrow!!!! EVERYONE here is freaking out including me. I was suppose to spend tomorrow as a nice relaxing transition day. But alas that may not happen. I tried to call the doctor to fax over a new date, but they don't know if she will do it because of HIPAA AND MY DOCTOR IS NOT IN TODAY!!!!! Holy COW!!! To add fuel to the fire. My boss is already freaking out about Wednesday (She wanted me to stay until August 1st - we all knew that would not happen if I was given a month right!?) and SHE IS OUT TODAY!!!! So she will show up to work tomorrow and I am NOT HERE! HOLY COW - they are all FLIPPING OUT!

I GUESS I BETTER GET TO WORK THEN!!!!!

Lori Wow, babe, your little man is growing so much!! I hear you on wanting to induce since he is just going to keep growing. :D I hope you get a good conversation in with your dr. about it and that everything will work out great for you.

Leslie Sucks sucks sucks...I'm sorry you didn't get good news at your appt. today, but I am super excited for you cause I think that will help you out a lot to know that you could be induced and not go past your due date! That has GOT to help to know. :p Hang in there with the work situation. Maybe compromise and put in 2 more weeks and then just quit. That's good enough. Money is money, I know, but if you're feeling miserable physically, it really isn't worth it. Plus, this is a time to rest and prepare and relax before Luke arrives!

Darrien I haven't taken a BF class yet but man, I should! Good for you! But I have heard those boppies are lifesavers when it comes to holding a baby at your breast for hours on end...I'm counting on mine and it better work well!

alex Sorry you are feeling more and more uncomfortable! I've given up my maternity stuff too, even THEY aren't fitting anymore. I can't wait everyday to come home and hop in my big baggy boxer shorts and a tank. Hope your little one has dropped and will start things moving for you soon!

Lora Sorry babe, what could be up with your itchy belly? I was thinking dry, but you said you've been putting on that lotion, so I don't know. Maybe you should just take a hot bath and tell the peanut to stop stretching out your skin and come out already! ;)

Extremely tired, and just a feeling I don't understand. I feel like I'm roaming aimlesssly. I took a nap this morning, and woke up feeling SO bad. Nope, no boys yet. :( :(

I just wish they would induce me. Or shoot me and put me out of my misery. Im cranky today. I haven't slept much. They kept us overnight for observation, but we were in at midnight for an ultrasound, and then at 2 they drew blood, and 3 they gave me *another* shot of rogrham, then they had me on the NST monitors a couple of times between then and 8 when they said we could go home. No idea what caused the bleeding.

Baby A is so low now, I thought I was in pain before - gawd, I need help now to get to the bathroom. (did I also mention Im whiny today?)

Baby B has turned AGAIN. Last Monday he was transverse, last night he was breech.

I just want this done and over with...but I also am so tired I don't want to immediatly deal with being a mommy! (or deal with my family or anything else.) Im just so tired and sick of pain. 10 more days or so until they will induce.

I just got back from my appt and good and bad news.

Bad news: I am GBS positive, so I will be having antibiotics during delivery. I don't understand why, but there aren't any explanations of how you get it. I didn't have it with Scotty, but after doing research, I am a bit freaked.

Neutral news: I am btw 1-2 cm now, but not a full 2. I was hoping for more but thats what I get for thinking about it to much.

Good news: He is at a -1 station. She was able to push his head out of the pelvic area but he pushed it right back in at her!

She didn't feel comfortable stripping my membranes just yet since I am still at 1-2cm. But she said forsure next time she will do it. Baby is measuring right on, but this is when Scotty started packing on the weight, so we have a chance he may be over 9lbs.

Tina- Sorry you are still pregnant, but glad to have you around a little longer. My Dr. said they can induce me at 39 weeks but I told her NO. I am determined to go on my own this time, even if it is late. I sort of think they have my due date wrong by almost a week, so that would make me only 36 weeks now. Ahh so many unanswered questions.

Leslie I had the pill inserted last time. They had me at the hospital the entire time to monitor Scotty. I had one dosage and then they went straight to pit. The pill made me contract way to much and did its job with my cervix. You will be ok if that is how it goes down. Doesn't sound fun at all and you have to try to stay laying down, which is really hard for me.

Ohh Sarah at my BF'ing class the instructor mentioned that the worst BF'ing pillow was the boppy something about it being too round, and it tends to make the baby roll into you. she said the best thing is a long flat pillow. She also said that if we had one, not to go and return it cause we will use it for lots of othre things, like tummy time and such! I love my Boppy it's so soft I don't think I could part with it ;)

Sonya- I didn't have it with Scotty and I want a reason, although they can't give me one, of why I am +. I have done everything correctly. I did research on it and am scared to death now just knowing that is *could* effect my baby.
It's not a matter of doin things "correctly" it's just a bacteria that's relatively harmless in adults. At any given time about a third of women have it colonized in their vagina or rectum, but it comes and goes. As Bombedier said, if they tested you again in three days, you might be negative. The chances of something happening to your baby because of it are miniscule, especially if you are given antibiotics in labor. VERY small chances, less than one in 4000.

What a cute duckie! BTW, I loved my Boppy for nursing- I used it all the time for a few months, and then it was great for practicing sitting up and tummy time. I even sat on it myself when my stitches from my tear were healing. I'd say to keep it.

Hi guys! bear with me while I learn how this site works but I have a picture of Melissa and Evan I'm going to try to post!
moved to LJ
We'll see if that works haha...

Tina I'm sorry those boys are still wedged in there..sounds like any day though! I'm sure you're tired of hearing that....

Count me in with the uncomfortable sleepers..just in the last week I've noticed a change...achy back, more peeing...bleh...this could be a long 5 weeks. Does anyone else have this problem?...anytime I bend over forward (which I probably shouldn't be doing) my belly just ACHES! I have had what I guess are BHs...I dunno, everything is just all around uncomfy now.

Tracy I've got to learn about pm's but no worries! Glad everyone got to hear one way or another! I wanted to tell you too the very little bit I know about GBS...I tested positive during my first labs at 10 weeks. Not sure why they tested then but based on that they decided not to even test me again and go straight to the antibiotics. Mostly because they might get a false negative I guess. Anyway so I did my fair share of freaking out and reading all about it.....everyone I've talked to said as long as you have those antibiotics it should be fine....easier said than done I know and I hate not having a "reason" but over the course of the pregnancy I've settled in with the idea that it's ok. Plus on the bonus side at least for me that means staying in the hospital at least 48 hours...I was never a fan of being kicked out right away with as tired as I expect to be....Thats just my take....

14lbs....OY vey

Sarah You're back...and your ticker hasn't changed. Does that mean no baby for you?? Or did I miss something??? (If I did, I totally apologize!! :o )

Tracy, sorry about the GBS. Just one more thing to worry about.
Thanks for posting that you had that pill with Scotty. It helps me to know that someone else had it and didn't end up having a c-section. Not that I'm opposed to one at all, I'm just now scared of going into labor and THEN having to have a c-section, ya know? She didn't mention the pitocin, but I assume that would be after the pill like you said. I don't know that much about this pill, so I'm going to do some research on it.

Tina, I'm with you-why don't they just induce you already or schedule the c-section? Argh! I'm so frustrated for you! lol

Lori, I hear you, babe! Boy, do I hear you. You never know, he may not actually end up weighing as much as you think. They could be off a pound or 2, ya know? Your dr may surprise you. Thanks for the info ladies. I am stressed, but what can I do...nothing. The darn thing is I am a worrier too. My doctor shrugged it off like it was no big deal. Matt and I both took it as it was obviously not a big concern for us. I talked to a girl friend just now who is a carrier and everything came out fine. Her son is as healthy as can be. She was diagnosed at 10 weeks and it came up in her urine. She was treated the entire pregnancy with antibiotics. I understand that I will have to have them during labor, but WHAT IF, I don't make it there in time??? I think I may begin to accept an induction. We have an u/s on Friday to get a better fetal weight, another fun thing to worry about, and then based on that info as well, decide what is best. My friends who has GBS opted for the induction so they could monitor everything better. For those of you who have or may have it, she said it is VERY important to tell everyone asap when you get to the hospital so they are extra careful. I would never have thought it was something I had to announce to the whole world but makes since. OK I am done rambling and will continue when I have time over at LJ.

I don't consistantly get email noticed about this thread. It makes me nuts!!

CONGRATS Melissa and WELCOME Evan! He's precious!

Tracer- I already tested positive for GBS a few weeks ago and I was also positive with my daughter (but she's 6 now and that seems like ages ago) but I remember that it was really not a big deal. The doctors were really good about taking her away really quickly to be sure she was fine. But I also ended up having meconium (sp?) in my fluid so they had to also account for that. Just remember, they know you have this, so they are taking all the precautions necessary.

Hey Stacy- I did not have the best birth with my daughter. I won't freak you out with the details. Well, it wasn't horrible, I was just in labor FOREVER. I just keep telling myself that women do this all the time and that I managed to accomplish it, so I know I'm capable. I was given stadol, demerol, epidural....my pharamcy list on the bill was LONG. Big hugs to you, I know you're scared.

Isn't GBS pretty much the same infection as strep throat, only it's in your vagina? I've read so much on this because I was curious and now I feel confused. lol Anyway, if I remember correctly it's relatively harmless in us, but could be dangerous for the baby which is why they need to give you the antibiotics while you are in labor. Apparently if the baby has it, he can infect all of the other babies in the nursery.

RANT WARNING!!!
Well our temporary resident left for two days. YEA!!! She is already driving us nuts. It feels almost like she is our child. She is even starting to use our stuff from the fridge. She left with one of my plastic cups today, I think. This will get really old. She doesn't even think that she should have any rules since she is not at her parents house. But I don't want Ben to be woken up as she comes in at some hour of the morning or night. And she also doesn't think its fair to have to smoke outside once he is here. We are actually doing a contract so that the rules are in writting. She thinks that isn't fair, but we want everything so that we don't have the worry of her saying that she didn't know the rules. If she refuses it, we will tell her to leave. If she was mature we wouldn't worry so much.

I just left a place called The Pump Station (here in L.A.). I went to a new mommies/breastfeeding class and then a sling clinic. The class was full of new moms with their babies - the oldest was 7 weeks old. It was really informative to hear them talk. I even got to watch as the instructor helped a woman perfect her latch on.

Sarah all I can say is that I highly recommend taking one of these classes. There were a lot of women who didn't know how to get the babies to latch on correctly, and they were in pain from breastfeeding. It's the #1 reason women give up BF quickly.

That took a few hours, and now I'm exhausted, so I'll go. Namrodda, thanks for posting the pic. :)

Hey ladies - thank you for thinking of me. I'm fine - still contracting, still dilated, and so utterly exhausted. I've been reading along all day, I just haven't had the energy to muster up a reply.

But, I saw that you were asking about me, so I didn't want anybody to think I was off having a baby! :)

I'm torn. Over the past few days, I've been having some really strong contractions - I can't talk through some of them. I feel very confident that if I were to continue being active (I've been busy getting the house ready - I guess I've hit the "nesting" phase), I would probably go into labor very soon. But I'm only 34 weeks - I know I should be taking it easy and trying to make it to 36 or 37. But a very selfish part of me is tired of all of the negative side effects of being pregnant, and I daydream about how nice it would be to be holding my baby, and not be pregnant anymore. *sigh* I know the best thing for myself and baby is to slow down and take it easy, but it's hard, feeling like I could potentially have the baby much sooner, depending on my choices. :(

Ohh Evan is just Precious!

Kat I am so sorry you have to deal with this. I can't even imagine. I don't know the situation but I agree she must live by your rules or find a new place to live.

Leslie you can still take a class, I would highly recomend it I learned so much!! You would think that BF'ing is a natural thing and that you and baby would just "know" how to do it but it's not that simple. As Darrien mentioned incorrect latch on is one of the top reasons women give up.

Carla glad to hear that your still hanging in there, I know it's rough but just think you are doing the best thing for your baby!

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, and now I'm as curious to find out if the baby's position has changed as much as cervical changes. (Last week was ROA, 1 cm, 50%). I just googled a long page (http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/malpositions.htm) about how a baby's position makes a big difference in how easy or hard the birth is. I felt the baby on a different side today, so I wonder if he turned.

I'm packing the labor bag, and more than "when" I wish I knew "how" it's going to go. How long will we be at the hospital before the baby arrives - 2 hours or 22? I was buying snacks for DH for the labor bag last weekend, and it makes a big difference. Same goes for all the games/books for the labor bag too, who knows how much if any we'll need.

I am loving sitting on the exercise ball. I wish I knew if all the stuff I'm doing is going to make any difference whatsoever (exercise ball, chiropractic, treadmill, Kegels). I half-heartedly tried to do some natural stuff to pass the GBS test, and I still got a positive. I start on my side but wake up from sleeping flat on my back almost every night and don't feel right about that, although it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Labor Buddies I'm not sure whether I'll be sending email or calling or posting here. What times are too early/late to call - say the baby is born at 3 AM or something, what time should I wait to call? I'm in the central time zone.

Also check this out: My coworker found this somewhere online - it's the integral of a probability distribution curve of when people go into labor. It looks a little off to me, because it goes all the way to 4 weeks past the due date, and most OB's in the US don't go past 42 weeks. I'm at T-2 weeks, so it looks like I had a 20% chance of having the baby by this point. Next week it goes to 40% and the next week goes to 70%!

Good Morning! :D
Had my week 38 appt yesterday (technically 38 weeks and a day, but who's counting??), went well. Blood pressure is back down to more what I'm used to (104/60), even despite the awful humidity yesterday. And MD says my body/Caitlyn have made a lot of progress over the past 5 days (since I had an appt on Thursday, she wasn't expecting much). I'm between 60-70% effaced, I'm a loose 1cm dialated, and she's move lower in my pelvis. MD thinks that since I'm so effaced, once she drops down a little more, I'm going to dialate pretty quickly. So I need to keep walking, walking, walking to get her to move down.

12 days to go!!!!

Have a great day!

Hey girls!

Melissa Awwwww congrats once more, Evan is SO cute!!! :D

Glad to see that everybody is holding on and dong at least ok!

I have a question for you ladies this morning. Does baby moves a lot still??? Last night, he was going crazy in there. He moved so much, I just couldn't believe it. But since last night nothing. I didn't even have to go to the bathroom during the night! Usually I have to go at least 3-5 times because he is so low, he pushes on my bladder all the time, but last night nothing. I woke up this morning, and he wasn't moving still. I got up, ate, that made him move just enough to change from side to side (you know, feeling him more on the left, and then more on the right) but no real strong movements like usual. I even put ice on his butt to get him moving, even that didn't work. He moved just when DH talked to him, but nothing like usual. Otherwise, feeling better then yesterday, had some contrax during the night, but nothing else to report. (oh, and I lost the rest of my MP yesterday night) I feel weird things down there, I think he is getting lower still, but nothing else.
What should I do??? SHould I call the doc, or just take it easy and relax???

LeslieR
07-20-2005, 06:41 AM
Val, there's really not too much room left in there, so it's normal for him not to move *as much*, but if you haven't felt him move for a while (can't remember what the timeline is), you should definitely call your dr. I don't think it's going to be too much longer for you now. :)

Carla, I'm glad you're still around. I think your babe is going to come when it's ready whether you clean like a maniac or lay on the couch and relax. No worries. You're not being selfish-we're all right there with you!

I got the best sleep last night! :D That ambien really did the trick!!! I woke up in such a better place today mentally. It's amazing. But, then there's this...

I've been having a sneaking suspicion that that drug that my dr wants to insert in me to make me go into labor was the one that was mentioned a couple weeks ago, but I just couldn't remember. Holly very kindly found a thread on it here for me and it is in fact the same drug. I don't know what to do now. argh. Sal knew what the drug was-in fact, the dr didn't even mention it by name, I got the name of the drug from Sal! He didn't seem concerned at all and he explained how this drug came into use for this purpose. I tried to do some research on it yesterday and I only could come up with stories about possible uterine rupture in a VBAC. Does.Not.Apply. ugh. I feel like I need more info before I can go ahead with this. I don't want to just walk blindly into it, ya know?

Since I've been complaining of not having contractions for weeks now, last night was a bit of a revelation. Contractions, BH I'm sure, were on-going and strong all night long. My night (after midnight) actually got going by being sick. Don't know why, but I just kept getting more and more nauseous. Finally, I had to throw up. Then, at 4am, I woke up to the contractions. They still don't "hurt" though I feel so tight I can hardly breathe.

And, it seems like the baby moved during them. She doesn't seem to be head down anymore, but side to side. My stomach completely flattened out. And she hasn't moved much since they were going (is she as tired as I am?). Before I went to bed, she was rhumba-ing around in her usual way. Anyhow, I'm exhausted. And despite the fact that I"m on "vacation", I've worked harder this week than the previous several. I'm even going in to the office later today. DH is thoroughly disgusted with me.

August21 They say that anytime you notice a significant difference in how your baby moves, you should call in. I would say, just call to be on the safe side. The baby is surely fine, but they may give you more tips on how to check and you might find some peace of mind. I know we all feel strange about calling our Dr.s offices for things that turn out to be nothing, but that is (partly) what they're there for.

Just a quick post. I asked my nurse about GBS+ and if I need to alert all of the dr.s/nurses who will be with me in labor about it. Here is what she wrote:

Group Beta Strep is a bacteria that lives in, I think, about 30% of women's vaginas. It never causes you a problem but can cause respiratory distress in the neonate, therefore we give you antibiotics during labor to kill it. It must be given at least 4 hrs before delivery to be effective. We usually give Ampicillin 2 gms IV the 1 gm every 4 hrs. unless you are allergic to Penicillin then we will give you Ancef, probably. I have never seen any negative side effects from these antibiotics. Yes, tell your nurse upon arrival that you are GBBS +. It could make the difference if you are in early labor between sending you home or keeping you. How much longer now? No sitting in reclining positions, get on your hands and knees periodically, like when watching t.v. these positions, forward leaning, lunges, etc. help get baby in a good position.

Leslie,

I was going to post about Misoprostol this morning because I was worried about you. I posted about it over at the "other site" and wanted you to have information about it so that you can make an informed decision. The drug is not FDA approved for use in labor and delivery and the drug manufacturer has expressly advised physicians not to use it for that purpose due to potential uterine rupture. The good news is that there is another drug, called Cervadil that is FDA approved for ripening the cervix and that your doctor should be able to use.

Here are some of the things that I posted before:

FDA site:

FDA ALERT – Risks of Use in Labor and Delivery
This Patient Information Sheet is for pregnant women who may receive misoprostol to soften their cervix or induce contractions to begin labor. Misoprostol is sometimes used to decrease blood loss after delivery of a baby. These uses are not approved by the FDA. No company has sent the FDA scientific proof that misoprostol is safe and effective for these uses.

There can be serious side effects, including a torn uterus (womb), when misoprostol is used for labor and delivery. A torn uterus may result in severe bleeding, having the uterus removed (hysterectomy), and death of the mother or baby. These side effects are more likely in women who have had previous uterine surgery, a previous Cesarean delivery (C-section), or several previous births.

This information reflects FDA’s preliminary analysis of data concerning this drug. FDA is considering, but has not reached a final conclusion about, this information. FDA intends to update this sheet when additional information or analyses become available.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Is Misoprostol?

Misoprostol is a drug approved by the FDA to decrease the chance of getting stomach ulcers caused by taking certain arthritis or pain medicines.

Misoprostol also has effects on the womb and cervix.

Who Should Not Take Misoprostol for Labor and Delivery?

Pregnant women who have had a previous C-section or removal of fibroid tumors in the wall of the uterus should not receive misoprostol for softening the cervix or inducing contractions to begin labor.

How is Misoprostol Used?

Misoprostol comes as a tablet. Sometimes the tablets are split, and you will be given only a piece of a tablet. You may be asked to take misoprostol by mouth, or it may be placed in your vagina or rectum.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know?

There are other drugs to soften the cervix or induce labor or contractions that are approved by the FDA. There also can be similar serious side effects from these drugs. You may need to have your cervix softened or contractions induced for your health or your baby’s health. Talk to your doctor about all your options and what is best for you.

I know that it can be overwhelming, and that some people might just trust their doctors that it will all be OK in the end, but my personal advice would be to talk to your doctor and to see if you can get Cervadil or some other drug instead of the Misoprostol.

ETA: Misoprostol is also known as Cytotec

No problem. I might print out some of the stuff (mainly the things from the FDA website) and take them to your doctor's appointment if you are serious about not wanting it. My understanding is that the main reason why doctors like to use it is because it is much cheaper than Cervadil and it works "better" (e.g., faster), but it seems like its effects are unpredictable to me (which is what causes the danger) and I just don't like the idea of having a drug used on me that is not FDA approved for the purpose it is being used for.

Good luck!

ETA: At the hospital where I am delivering, they use Cervadil to ripen the cervix and then Pitocin to stimulate contractions. For induction, you might need both, not just the Cervadil like my last post might have indicated. But there is still an alternative to the Misoprostol/Cytotec.

Alright so I'm slow at following everyone over here, but here I am :)

My username is the same, daisysue62 and I'm expecting a baby girl sometime the first week of August. The doctor is going with an Aug. 1 due date and I'm going with an Aug. 6 due date, although I don't think it matters much anymore since I'm so close to being a mommy!

My last day of work was last Friday so now I'm offiially a Stay at home Wife, soon to be Stay at home Mom which I'm excited about. I'm using this time to get last minute things done and try to anticipate upcoming events and get things done early. Things like buying a wedding present for a wedding we're going to in the end of August, making sure all of our bills are paid etc. Seems like there is so much to do to prepare for!

First off, congratulations to Melissa on the birth of her son Evan. How wonderful!

Leslie, I feel like such an ignorant, but lucky, woman. I wasn't aware of the controversy surrounding Misoprostol until after it was used (as Cytotec) to induce my delivery in April. For me, it worked just as it should and there was no harm done to my body. Had I known this information though, I might have been a little more concerned. That said however, I know that the doctors I spoke with use it with great success. Though if I had the option for Cervadil in the future, I would probably rather go that route.

Cytotec worked very well for me in inducing my labor in half the time we expected. Not very fun when it was inserted, however (as mine was dosed vaginally). Good luck to you.

I'm looking forward to hearing about the new August arrivals. Take care ladies. :)

Thank you for bringing up the Cytotec issue again - that's one of the questions I neglected to ask at my last appointment. I don't know what they use to ripen the cervix here in Canada - must ask that on Tuesday.

Well, I was hoping today would be a better day than yesterday. So far, it's up in the air. LOL I just realized, with my space cadet pregnant brain, that I'm down to one Zantac pill. Zantac has been a lifesaver for my acid reflux, and I can't go a day without it! So I had to call in for a refill - my ob's office is so insanely busy, it took me twenty minutes just to get through, then I had to sit on hold for ten minutes, then I had to leave a message for her nurse to return my call. I know that my ob and nurse only work mornings on Wednesdays, so I'm afraid to step away from the phone for even a moment, in case I miss the call. :( But I feel so gross because I haven't showered yet - UGH!

It's nearly 11 am, so I'm hoping I hear from her soon. I can't stand getting up in the morning and not immediately jumping in the shower. I wasn't really thinking - I guess I should have showered first and THEN called the office. But that would have made sense..... ;)

My freezer is now fully stocked with all sorts of goodies! I could go an entire month without cooking, if I needed to. :) I'm going to attempt to clean a couple of rooms in the house today - not just tidy up, but clean from top to bottom. I'm definitely nesting. :)

Hi Kellie! Glad you could make it over here!

Saw the DR yesterday and had my first internal exam and the strep test. Baby is head down but not engaged so no dialation or effacement yet. :( But, I didn't expect anything since I still have 4 weeks to go. (Drop, baby, drop!)

The girls at work threw me a surprise shower today. Very sweet! They even made sure to have sugar free food so I could eat it.

Hmmm.....let's see....

I have
veggie lasagna (2 meals)
veggie manicotti (5 meals)
plain meatballs (3 - just add your favourite sauce)
meatloaf (4)
sicilian dinner (3 - pasta-and-sauce type casserole)
Schwartie's hashbrowns (4 - delicious sidedish)
Chili (4)
Hamburger Soup (4 - full of veggies!)

I know there's more, but that's all that I can remember at the moment. I also froze two bags of strawberries that a friend picked for me and brought to the shower....and I think I might possibly slip over to McGavin's (bakery) and buy a flat of bread to throw in the freezer. I prefer it fresh, but it's nice to have it handy.

I tried to make things that the whole family would eat, that we can just add a nice fresh salad to and have a fairly complete meal. My kids are huge salad eaters - my daughter opts for salad over french fries when we eat out!

Edited to add that I also browned some hamburger, drained it and froze it in freezer bags. That way you just pop it out of the freezer, defrost it and throw it into things like spaghetti sauce or chili. It's a huge time-saver.

I didn't do any chicken casseroles because I'm fussy about chicken - I prefer it fresh. :) I've also made a list of crockpot recipes that I'm going to stick to the fridge - most of those ARE chicken recipes, and I like that I can throw all the ingredients into the crockpot in the morning and have a hot meal ready at suppertime! :)

Sully, thank you for sharing your experience. I think with everything there are risks and that's why it's important to do research to be informed and find out what you are comfortable with. The FDA part doesn't bother me because I know there are a lot of drugs used for different purposes than what they are approved for. It's the risks associated with this drug that I am concerned about. I have read some horror stories and some good stories as well. The dr that delivered Sal's niece and nephew was in the pharmacy this morning, so Sal picked his brain a bit and what he said made Sal comfortable. I'm still going to talk to my dr at my next appt to find out her thoughts and why this drug over cervadil and what her experiences have been in using it in the past. I'm kind of shocked that she wants to use this drug since she has been so by the book on everything else. I'm very interested to hear her thoughts on it.

Went to the doctor today (it seems like I'm always there now), and saw people from my hospital class in the waiting room.

I'm still 1+ cm. The baby's spine is now on my left side (I knew it! Movements have switched sides.). I asked it that meant I was LOA (best position for delivery), and she said not necessarily - that it depended on which way the head was facing. Hmm, I've read that the spine on the left side of the belly is best, and posterior is when the baby's spine is on my back, so I'm going to keep with the positive thoughts about a nice, uneventful delivery.

She said she wouldn't be surprised if I went soon because of the full moon - that the hospital is always hopping with babies at a full moon. If I had my choice, I'd want an August 1 baby, maybe Aug 2. We have no August birthdays in my family, and I want this baby to have an August birthday. Let's see if the baby obliges. I really don't want to go over and have to discuss induction and deal with everybody's "haven't you had that baby yet?" comments.

Good freezer ideas! I picked up a bulk of PowerBars for quick lunch'n'goes and told DH that he's in charge of food for the first few weeks. I'll have to get some lasagnas and stock up the freezer knowing him. :p Right now though I don't think I have the energy to cook any casseroles or get ingredients for crockpot recipes...I'm so sore and cranky lately. I may just have him order pizza twice a week and live off of that or bring me home chinese or rotisserie chickens. Ugh.

I'm having such a pissy day. My midwife wants to reschedule me cause she's been at the hospital since 1 am with a labor...but why screw me up? DH is working hard so he can be here and we are both excited for it. I have been cramping for 3 weeks and I want to know what's going on. So I may be a biotch and call them back last minute and tell them I can't reschedule. Augh, what to do, what to do.

Carla - Can I hire you to stock my fridge too? Gheesh! I am so jealous. Husband is totally the food preparer in our household, but I've been recently informed that since I'll be home on maternity leave, that I can have dinner ready for him more often. humpf. I didn't sign up for that!!

Sarah - Oh! I hope you don't have to reschedule. I *hate* that. Don't they realize how much we look forward to these appts and that our time is valuable as well? I hope you get in to see her...

As for me - I just got back from the appointment with my ob/gyn. My mom came with me to keep me company and give me moral support! :) When the doctor came in, I told him about the ultrasound results yesterday, and told him all my concerns about the baby just getting bigger, Maternal & Fetal Medicine's concern about no forceps/vacuums, low platelets and no drugs, and also if I needed a csection with low platlets that I'd need a general. He was in total agreement that the general anesthesia should be avoided at all costs, so that was positive, but he is reluctant to induce me too early. He said that even if he induces, if my body is not ready yet, that no matter what they give me my body won't respond well and it can actually increase the chances of a csection. So I'd end up with a csection after going through a potentially long labor. blech.

He suggested that we wait one more week and he'd do an internal then and then we can go from there. I asked him if he'd check me this week, rather than waiting and he agreed. When he came back in to do the exam, he did say that if Matt and I get too concerned about the baby's size, he would have my platelets checked to make sure they were high enough for me to be awake, and then do a scheduled csection. I didn't want to jump to that just yet, but it was good to hear. As for the exam, I'm not dilated at all, but he said the baby's head is *very* low, and that my cervix is nice and soft. So that was good news.

So Matt and I are going back next Wednesday, if I don't have the baby by then (there is a full moon tomorrow night, you know!), and then we can make a decision on what we want to do at that point. If I'm dilating, then we can proceed with an induction, or if I'm not, then we can talk about a csection.

One last tidbit - I lost 3 pounds since last week! How does that happen?? It *might* be because my appt last week was the morning after a dinner out for a friend's birthday. Maybe that slice of cheesecake tipped the scales! :)

Ok. Sorry if I bored you all with the details. I just wanted to get it all out and documented. :)

Here's hoping for some full moon labor vibes!!

Oh yeah, I'm going to Carla's! lol We don't even have any room in our freezer for meals.

Tracy, thanks for the update on Melissa. I can't wait to hear from her!

I'm still working on my work sitch. I emailed HR and asked them if I could take the next 2 weeks off as part of my unpaid maternity leave. She replied and said she needs to look into it for me, that it depends on the needs of my department, and she will talk to my boss. Sounds good to me. My bosses moods depend on which way the wind is blowing, so who knows what he will say. My team leader doesn't seem to think it will be a problem, so hopefully Friday will be my last day of work! *fingers crossed*

I forgot to mention in my other post-that dr Sal talked to today said another reason they would want to induce me is because the longer Luke is in there the higher the chances are that he will develop diabetes himself. Interesting, huh? So, now it is making even more sense to me why my normally by the book dr wants to induce me!

it can actually increase the chances of a csection. So I'd end up with a csection after going through a potentially long labor. blech.

Lori, this sounds like what my dr said, but I guess I'm different because of the GD. It sounds like you have a good plan in place! And at least your cervix is softened-I'm not even there yet.

I hope the full moon tomorrow gets things moving for a lot of us!!! :D

Just in case people are looking for ideas for stocking up on meals. This website, http://www.30daygourmet.com/ is a popular source for Freezer Cooking, which is a whole method of cooking just once a month. Months ago I bought a Foodsaver vacuum sealer and have yet to try it out, but when I stop working I plan to make some stuff and vacuum seal it. :D

Loving all the freezer ideas! I bought some containers to make some meals ahead, but was having a brain fart for what to actually make. I'm going to check out that website, too - thanks, Erika!

Well, back from the docs and very discouraged. I haven't made an ounch of progress all week. :( If that's the case, I'd be pretty happy for all these worthless contractions to stop and give me just one good nights sleep!! And, we didn't schedule induction like we were supposed to. We scheduled an appointment for next week, and will schedule induction then. Of course, instead of scheduling us for Monday, the secretary scheduled us for Wednesday, and, as Will pointed out, that pushes our chances for delivery next week back even more. Once I quit being quite so pissy, I'm going to call the docs again and see if there's any way to squeeze me in on Monday instead.

I'm surprised at how disappointed I was - I thought for sure that I'd at least have made progress in the effacement department, so to hear that I've made no change was just frustrating! I do realize I could still go any time, but I was hoping for a little more hope. I guess the good news is that I haven't gained any more weight, which does make me happy! At this stage with Tallie, I was gaining up to 5 pounds a week! Probably explains why I never lost the weight from her!!

Off to sulk for a bit - hoping the rest of you are having better Wednesdays.

Baah. Should I be annoyed that I called to make my appointment for next week and they can't fit me in until the following week? I am supposed to see the doctor "every week" at this point ...

I think tomorrow I am going to call back and try to schedule all of the rest of my appointments, so that this doesn't happen again, even though every other time I've tried to schedule more than one at a time they have told me that they "don't do that."

Annoying ...

Just got back from my appt...and I'm very happy. :D I'm 1 cm and 70% effaced!!! He is also at the "0" station and she could feel his head really well.

She said I could "theoretically" go into labor this week (she doubts it), but definitely before mid-August. I hope so! I am eating my pineapple tonight and will work on all the ahem, other things as well. ;) I have DH installing the carseat base as we speak...nothing like sitting through an appt. like that to strike a bit of fear and motivation in a guy's heart! ha. It is hot here! I hate seeing the thermometer get that high!! It was 98 today, boy is that bothering this preggo. I wish that I could go hang out in an air conditioned building. It is taking away any of my ambition. Ben may get born before anything is done that still needs doing.

I have decided to buy a black leather glider since it is cheaper than most of the fancy ones and really comfy. We have been wanting one for ages and I am going to get it, or atleast plan on it.

I am kind of figuring out LJ. I managed to figure out how to add people to my friends list. I have Carla and Tina on there, I have to see if I can figure out who here is also there so I can friend people. Although so far the only thing saved as friends is my ranting about our guest. She is driving us bonkers.

Tina I looked at your journal to try to see if I could figure out how to get there.

Carla I hope you are doing okay even with the contrax. The food sounds great. I am planning things like spaghetti and I want to get a big Stouffers lasagna that we can do in portions, Daniel may try to run to your house. And any tips you have about LJ I would happily take.

Sarah Congrats on the appt!!!

I hope I am telling the right person!
Holly If you call me it can be between 7AM and 11PM your time(Daniel likes his sleep). If anybody gets a really grouchy person answering the phone it is probably our guest who thinks that a time before noon doesn't exist. Do you have my number? Atleast I think you are my buddy. I hope!

Woo Hoo Sarah!!!! Yeah for the progress!

I can't wait till next week I have my next appt and I wonder if she'll start doing internals?

Remember my Glider issue, well today I finally got in touch with the lady handling everything and the company decided they would only give 50.00 off the new price claiming it wasn't their fault because they didn't know the glider had been discontinued back in March mind you I ordered it late April!!!! so I decided to get my money back and go with someone else, I ended up paying more but at this point I was so pissed I didn't care, so it looks like I won't be getting my glider until after peanut has made his arrival :( by the way this is a very popular internet company so I just have to say that Babytoytown.com, Babybeddingtown.com and everything babytown.com SUCKS!!!! it's too bad I already have my furniture set up or I would have cancelled everything!!!!
Okay sorry about the rant I just had to complain to someone, I can't tell DH anymore cause he's ready to go down to the actual store, which is not far from me and raise HELL!

Quick update here:
I finally had to go in to the hospital yesterday. Baby really wasn't cooperating much as far as moving. You could tell the full moon was soon, the maternity wing was FULL of mom in labor and the nurses were in for a LONG night ahead of them. Felt really bad going in for that, but I guess they wantes to be on the safe side. I stayed for about an hour, and they did 3 sessions of 20 minutes of testing to see how much baby moved. He was always in the range they like, but always on the really low side. I didn't get an internal or nothing like that, just a doppler, and everything looked fine. They send me home, and I had to monitor all day his movements. Again, he stayed on the low side all day. Last night, he moved a bit more, but then again, not nearly as much as the last couple of days, before he started this "lethargy" of his. I'll have to check him still today, and if he drops under what is normal, go back again. Hoping he'll be more active today. They have no explainations on why this is going on though :( . One of the nurse kept telling me not to worry, "it is the calm before the storm" she said...whatever! They were also telling me that past 38 weeks, they are so restricted in their movements, that the quantity os movement decrease. But what I don't understand is why it started as fast as that. 2 night ago, just before going to bed, he moved SO much, it was crazy. Since then, nothing. I'm only hoping that he isn't stuck in his cord or anything like that. So please girls, send a little bit of good vibes our way. :(

ETA: Leslie, Can I suggest we add Evan's name to our journal title. It is only a suggestion though! you are the threadmistress!!! :p

Lori - you're looking great!

I can't believe how much I slept last night. I fell asleep on the couch before 9 and went to bed at 11:30. I did get up several times throughout the night to pee, but I woke up this morning with what feels like menstrual cramps. Just one steady ache. Nothing that seems like contractions though. Hopefully this is the start of something. Maybe the full moon is working it's magic.

Rachel has now shifted sides. Her butt has been on my right side for the longest time and today it's on the left side. I feel her little legs or elbows poking me in the right this morning.

Val- I know what you are going through. I went through that last time. I was sent to triage 2 times to have him monitored. He was always fine and looked great but you are right, they are so scrunched in there they don't have much room to move. I have a feeling you are going to go soon, fingers crossed!!!

I also think we should add Evan to the title if Leslie or Sonya gets a chance. I think Melissa is coming home today and that would be an awesome welcome for her!

Changing Thread Titles I was thinking that this something that only CC can do? I thought they were working on enabling posters to be able to do it, but I think you still have to PM someone else and have them do it for you. Just wondering!

Val, I like that: "the calm before the storm". Maybe you felt him move more before because he changed positions somehow? I know Luke can't seem to figure out if he likes the right side or the left side better.

So, despite taking the Ambien again last night, I had a horrible night's sleep. I think I had my hopes up too high. lol

LeslieI'm in a sweet state lately. I could eat like 100 toast with Nutella in the morning and nothing else...so is subway really worst???

I really hopes he hasn't changed too much position...he was perfectly posisitionned for labor, so PLEASE may he has not turned around!!! He had the hiccups yesterday though, and I still felt it near my cervix. My neighbourg and this morning Fred told me how he dropped some more since the last days, maybe that is why is isn't as active, I mean, I don't think he could me more squeezed in my hips now...The next step is the floor! I wish I had pics, but now my belly is so low, that I have this major space between my boobs and my belly!!! (whereas before, my boobs were sometimes laying on my belly  I'm praying now for the "calm before the storm" too because now I'm really getting uncomfortable!

Sarah Thanks girlfor the support. As I said, I really felt stupid going in there... I don't think I'll be a full moon baby, for I have NO feeling whatsoever for today, but this full moon thing is supposed to have it's effect starting 3 days before, and up to 3 days after...so hopefully this weekend. That was what the doc predicted anyways...I'm totally ready now, so fingers crossed from now on! :p

Question for all of you that have had internals - how long do you spot afterwards? I had some brown/pink spotting yesterday after the exam, but I am still having some now. Shouldn't it have stopped??

Also, I now know what all of you were talking about with that pelvic pain! Aye yie yie!!! I woke up for my many trips to the bathroom last night in absolute agony. I couldn't move. It felt like I was being ripped apart. I also feel the pain in my upper inner thighs - anyone else have this?

Hi ladies! :) Was hoping to see the moon had worked some magic in here, but looks like we're still waiting on some babies. Mine included!

I'm feeling a little better today - finally got a few hours of uninterrupted sleep, and while I'm exhausted today, it was great to get a little sleep. I'm crampy this morning, but nothing different then the day after the doc last week, so not getting excited. Its supposed to be close to 100 today, so trying to get motivated to get Tallie and I moving so we can take a walk this morning before the heat settles in.

Leslie Subway sounds good!! :P

Lora I'm sorry to hear about your ring! :( I was in tears when I had to take mine off with Tallie - Will couldn't understand why I was so upset. It was horrible! The heat is probably causing more swelling in your hands then usual, which SUCKS!! I'm right there with you on the discomfort. I'm ready to be able to switch sides in bed without needing a crane!

LILRTL

Not trying to be paranoid about all of my swelling, but I was looking at a site for Preeclampsia. It says if you have sudden swelling of your hands, you should call the doc immediately. I don't want to be paranoid, but I would think that overnight, that would be sudden swelling. Plus my head-aches. Thoughts?

Lora As for swelling in your hands, how much have you had to drink this morning? Its not that unusual for my feet and hands to be pretty big when I first get up, especially now that its hotter during the day. BUT...call, if your worried! What's the worst they'll tell you? That its nothing, drink water, relax...etc. You have every right to ask questions, to be worried, to wonder about things, so don't feel bad asking!! (This coming from the person who rarely calls the doc, for fear of asking that "stupid" question... )

Lori After my internal last week, I had some pinkish discharge (probably mp) for 2 days or so. This week, much less then last week (had an internal yesterday). With Tallie, after my first internal, I spotted for a day or so, but the second time, the spotting continued as I started into labor - I saw the doc on Monday, Tallie was born on Tuesday. Don't know if that helps any...

Lori - so far this time I haven't had any spotting and I have had 2 internals. With Scotty, at week 36 they did the first internal. I bleed and I mean bleed while I was at the doctors office. They made me wait around for an hour and it lightened up but didn't stop. They sent me to L&D right away. I had an u/s done and several other checks. About 2 hours later it stopped. I just had a sensitive cervix and my doctor was a little more rough than my cervix wanted. It ended up being nothing at all. Now when I left my appt this Tuesday my doctor said if i had spotting for the next few days it was ok and normal. If you continue to have it or it gets worse, I would at least call your doctor or an advice nurse to get some advice. If you are at all concerned it may be more, there is nothing wrong with calling L&D and going down to have it checked out.

Cosmogirl
07-21-2005, 08:33 AM
Lori For my first internal, I sprotted for 4-5 days! Even though doc had told me it was normal for the next 24 hours. But is wasn't big spotting, nothing to wet a pantyliner on. I called, and they weren't really worried about it. For the next 2 exams that I had, I didn't spot AT ALL, and the last time, doc kinda try to help my cervix a bit...Hoping everything is fine for you!

Lora I've had that too. For the last 2 days, my hands have become swollen in a matter of minutes, to a point where I had a hard time folding my fingers. Usually a couple of hours later, it went down. I also had a splitting headache for the last 2 night, but at my weekly (monday), I had my pressure checked and it was all fine, so for me, no chances of developping preecalmpsia THAT quickly. For me, it was all becausee of the humidity, those signs stopped at soon as I started air conditionning, and since I was hot, I didn't drink enough, so the headache was because of dehydration. But DO call your doc if you feel stressed about it, they could be a sign! Hope all will be ok for you!!! ***good vibes****
Sorry about the ring too!!! I really enjoyed this pregnancy too, but since the lack of movement has started, I don't feel as calm and in a good mood now! Hang in there sweetie it is almost over!

Low and behold, there is one silvery mark above my belly button! I wish she hadn't mentioned it - now it is mocking me each time I look at it. And I can't stop checking it out! Ignorance was really bliss!

Oh well. Guess I shouldn't really be suprised since I am about to give birth to a turkey!

Val I've definitely heard of that babies move less when they're getting ready. Since he's moved down a bit, maybe he slid into a position that doesn't allow the usual motion. My beanie was moving like CRAZY just a couple of days ago, but yesterday and today, she's been relatively quiet. She's moved her legs a bit, and shifted a little when I rollover, but nothing like what she was doing before. I do feel like she's dropped a bit, so I'm hoping that's it.

Actually, I'm just hoping for any sign that says she knows her time in me is up. I haven't lost my MP that I know of, my contrax (BH) still aren't plentiful, and she's only dropped so much. I think she thinks my uterus is HOME, and has no intention of leaving! As hot as it is in the apt., I'm not sure I completely blame her. Still, I'm 11 days away from EDD(?) and it feels like she has no plans to leave.

Lora I understand about the rings. I had to take of my wedding rings just last week, and now I feel like people are staring at me with "there goes another unwed mother" looks. Plus, I just miss them! It makes me nervous to not have them on. And my feet, while not completely swollen all the time, manage to look like Fred Flinstone feet ALL THE TIME. I'm nervous that this is how they'll look forever. If so, as long and fat as they are, I could probably waterski on them!

Definitely keep your eyes on the headache/swelling combination. If the headache becomes intense at any time, or even just gets worse than it is now, you need to say something. Especially if it goes past 2 days in a row of having a headache. Some of it may be heat - but if it escalates, you should check in with your doctor.

I was truly cranky last night. Yesterday, I went to work for a few hours. Am still working from home today. Then, I went to the credit union and deposited $$ into the girl's account. Ran errands at the mall, and came home to collapse! By the time DH came home, I was tired, HOT, and cranky - and couldn't muster up a smile for him. I just went into the bedroom (cooler) and relaxed for about 2 hours. THEN, I started feeling human again. We didn't even have dinner together. :(

Hi guys! Just checking in - work's been crazy!

Holly and Kat - you can call me 7am - 11pm central (I live in NY, but if I always wake for the phone!)

DH and I went grocery shopping last night, and he won't let me buy any pineapple yet! I guess I've been very lucky - my rings still fit and can be turned. But I don't ever take them off. I just tried - I can get it up to my knuckle, but that's it!

Lora, I totally hear you!

I am having a rough one myself today. I have the worst heart burn/indigestion ever-I've taken Pepcid and God knows how many Tums and it's not going away. I'm having a pain under my belly that's very uncomfortable when I walk. And I cannot stop peeing! I go and it's only a little sprinkle. What a friggin' joke. THIS is why I should be home on maternity leave. grrrrrrrrrrrr!

I don't post here very often...for some reason I lurk and then don't have the energy to post  Maybe it's jealousy (and of course happiness and excitement of all the "action" here! :D ) since my due date is Aug. 31! :p

Subway - for breakfast....sounds good to me! I ate pizza and ice cream for breakfast the other day....oh, and chips and cheesy bean dip too. Yeah, now I am grossed out from my own "meal" Ewww.

I had my 34 week appt yesterday...can't wait until 3 more weeks are up and I can start my pinneapple and everything else "labor" related. I still feel guilty wanting him out soon! I complained about my horrid heartburn (maybe its the cheesy bean dip? ha ha!) and my reflux at night and the OB said to take 150 mg of Zantac 75 twice a day, so I think I'll try that. And I'm up to sleeping on 3 pillows now too. Baby boy is head down, with his spine on my right (he's facing left), so most of the kicking/punching is in the center on my left side. I just love his butt snuggled right up tight to my ribcage. Sometimes I feel like "pushing" him down a little...especially when he starts to squirm!

Rolling out of bed - ugh! If I am not near the edge of the bed I am screwed as far as getting up myself...although, I have begun to master the hop/bounce on my butt/back to the edge, so I can roll out. :o

Congrats to the two moms!!! So excited and happy for you...I love seeing pics!

I washed the rest of the baby stuff today - sheets, sheet savers, etc. Is it too early to put sheets on (will they get too dusty?) And I am dying to pack my hospital bag and diaper bag, but can't bring myself to do it - I feel like I'm jinxing myself or something into going 41 weeks for sure!

Does someone remember how much movement we are *supposed* to feel? Little guy is just baaaaaaaaaaaaarely moving today...if at all.

Gawd, I sound like a paranoid freak today. :p

Lora Maybe it's the moon thing. I couldn't get N to move for anything an hour ago and I was getting worried. Thankfully just 2 minutes ago he did move and I'm OK now (whew), but I was poking, pressing, and even put music on my belly with the headphones. They must be sleeping a lot...

Is it just me or is this day dragging by like the slowest day in history?? I hate work!

My hands are horribly swollen. I hate it. But I have asked the OB about preclampsia and my BP and urine look fine. It's the heat combined with pregnancy. He was suprised I was still wearing my rings and that they come off and on. But, I stopped wearing them a few days ago, just to be safe because there could be an afternoon where I get so swollen that they don't come off. I seem to have developed carpal tunnel in my right hand due to the swelling. I only know that based on what I've read. But my hand falls asleep a lot during the day and at night I wake up and can't hardly move it. I've thought about calling the OB's office, but there's not really much that can be done, except to just keep stretching and massaging it...which I do.

Sarah- my due date is right behind you, how can you be progressing already?!?! YIKES! Monday is my next appointment and it will be a cervical check. I'm still carrying up high and I am pretty certain he'll tell me I'm closed up tight!

I'm so jealous of you ladies that are still wearing your rings or just now taking them off. I haven't worn mine since around 16 weeks! They started getting really snug & since my wedding band is titanium.. I thought it best to play it safe ;)

I have my 3rd weekly/internal this afternoon. I really hope something's softening or opening. If not... oh well, what can you do! My goal is a healthy little one (I say that now but we'll see what I'm saying come August 6th :D )

Movement - Just thought I'd comment since I freaked about this a while back and called the hospital about it. The OB nurse told me to find something really sugary to drink (I think I drank canned lemonade) and lie on my left side for 45 min. After about 5-10 min. baby was going NUTS!!! Completely crazy and rolling, kicking, everything, so maybe that would help?

elh Maybe you have made some progress and will find out at your appt! You never know. ;) My mom was unimpressed last night when I told her 1cm/70% eff. and just said "I was like that too...for a month!" Great thanks Mom. Just when you get all excited...!! Anyways I'm sticking to my squats, lunges, exercise ball stuff, pineapple, and whatnot...can't hurt (save for any contractions/cramps they cause)!

swelling: Yeah, I hear ya all on the swelling. I had bought a fake ring to wear - its a few sizes too big. Its never fit, always too big. But all of a sudden its a little snug! Keep drinking water and keeping your feet elevated.

movement: its pretty normal for the movement to slow down now. Thats why we do kick counts. I don't feel my guys move much anymore, but when I get weirded out by it, I just eat or drink something sugary and then they start going crazy again. Space is pretty limited in there at this point.

Family driving me crazy: Finally told ONE person, the WRONG person names we have pretty much decided on. My MIL. Why I bothered, I don't know. She doesn't like the names we picked out and suggested alternatives. I must be crazy, I know there is a reason why I don't like that woman. She also has been telling people there is something wrong with our Baby B (the 2nd baby) because of the size difference between the two. They have always been the same size up until the last ultrasound, but they are still in concordance with eachother and there is nothing wrong. But instead of asking us about her concerns, she just starts telling people there is something wrong. Then she asks how were going to deliver. Of course, thats wrong too. Even though its a tough decision we have to make, and one we have to make with consulting with a our peri. My MIL called my peri a 'new and young' doctor (she has never met her or asked about her). *bangs head on keyboard* I know Im grumpy because Im so freaking miserable right now...but sheesh, does she have to go out of her way to piss me off?!? And I swear, my DH is starting to defend her. He better cherish his man parts and keep them well protected!

I know my family stuff is stupid in comparision, but I also just wanted to let you know, I updated my LJ with sad news about a former Aug Momma. Didn't feel comfortable posting news about someone else on the open forum.

I had my 36 week appointment this morning. They did the GBS test - I will get the results on Tuesday at my next appointment. I also asked for an internal - I am 50% effaced and +1. The baby's head is engaged, so all is lining up nicely. My weight was constant, pee and b/p all good. Baby's h/b still in high 130s- high 140s - not helpful for gender predictions.

I told the MW about my cramping and she suggested drinking and resting when the cramps come on. Also, I have been waking up with sore fingers - seems to be part of the swelling - it constricts the nerve in my minds and makes them hurt like I have arthritis. All normal unfortunately!

We have our childbirth class all day Saturday - 9am - 5pm.

Good luck Lora!

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, this baby is so active, he/she keeps me up super late at night, doing the disco. It's like clockwork - I decide I'm ready for bed, baby decides it's time to cut a rug.

Sarah, when I was hoping for some kind of progress at my appt Tuesday, Sal politely reminded me that even if I was dilated or effaced, it didn't mean anything. Thanks hon! (someone's paying a little too much attention at lamaze class, methinks!)

Tina, if it makes you feel any better, I don't think I like your MIL either. :p

Lora, GOOD LUCK! Keep us posted!!!

I decided to go ahead and leave work early. I really feel like shit to put it mildly. lol Now that I'm home I feel like I need to clean because the house is a total pig sty. Lay on the couch and relax or clean? Hmmm... lol

Good luck, Lora !

Sarah Today IS the longest day, and I'm not even AT work (though they still call every 2 hours  )

Tina Your mother-in-law is ................. special. Knows nothing and has an opinion on everything. Baby B has a problem?? Wow, psychic to boot. Don't listen to her on the names. Whatever you've decided on is great. She can 1) learn to like the names, 2) never use the names (i.e. stay away from them, or 3) have two more kids of her own and use her suggestions there.

I am still cranky. My apt. is crazy hot. We HAVE to buy a fan. I don't think it's good to bring a baby into a place this warm (it's our first summer here). We'll see what DH says. The only good news is that our friends have invited us over for dinner tonight. Yay, no cooking. They threw our first shower, and are leaving for the weekend, so they're worried they won't see us before baby girl comes. Haha, they could stay away a month and she'll probably still be holed up inside me - comfy cozy. Still, food is good. Baby girl isn't moving a lot, just shifting her weight here and there, but I, at least, know she's alright.

Take care, everyone. Stay out of the heat! Isn't it crazy that this is going on pretty much throughout the entire country?! (wanting to scream: "THE END OF THE WORLD IS NEAR!!" but that might be taking it too far. :) )

Hi girls!
I just came back from the hospital. Baby wasn't moving much again today, and I kinda didn't like it. I called my doc this time, and he send me to the hospital
After 2 hours of monitoring, Baby had only moved once. They decided to send me for an U/S. According to them, baby is fine, moving well, but not growing enough. He passed form the 40th percentil to the 10th. My placenta has loads of calcification in it, so they thing the exchanges are not optimum, and that could explain why baby isn't growing as he should. So my doctor decided that since he was still doing well (he had a 10 on his biophysic test) he should come out now while he is strong enough to, and he'll probably grow better with milk, then inside my belly. SO

...I'm getting induced tomorrow morning 7:30...

I'm still in shock. I'm happy to know that I'll meet my boy tomorrow, but I never thought it would happen this way. I'm not scared about getting induced, what I'm scared about is why is my baby not growing like he should. I really hope it is the placenta reason and nothing else. At the U/S they really didn't see anything unusal, but you know, it is really scary and hard to hear that you are not able to make your baby grow like he should. I KNOW I shouldn't feel like that but I feel like a bad mom.= not able to take care of my son properly...

Please, send us some good vibes tomorrow, I really hope he'll be able to make it, and that I won't have to go for a emergency c-section, althought at this point, I'm expecting the worst. It wis my doc that is on duty though at the hospital tomorrow, so that is kinda reassuring.

I'm feeling mixed emotions right now, happiness to get to meet my son tomorrow, but also scare and anxious and hoping that he is fine.

Please, please, may it go well!
