Wow! :eek: I haven't had a chance to read what happened but CONGRATULATIONS ROBERTA!!!!!

I was just coming in here to complain how uncomfortable I've been for the past few days and how I really really wish it was November 24th already but this great news definitely lifts my spirits. How exciting that our first November baby has arrived! That is so great.

Wow is right! Congratulations Roberta! I am hoping for a speedy recovery for you and your little one! Here's hoping you will both be home soon!

Kadee- my little profile is wrong- my due date is Nov 21. It's right in the other posts, though. :)
ETA- thanks for the new thread!

Congratulations, Roberta and Wesley Prayers and thoughts are with you both.

So exciting!!!!

FREAK OUT moment Roberta and I share the same due date (minus a day). AAHHHH!!!! I still haven't washed the new crib sheets yet nor have I packed a hospital bag, etc etc etc

FREAK OUT moment Roberta and I share the same due date (minus a day). AAHHHH!!!! I still haven't washed the new crib sheets yet nor have I packed a hospital bag, etc etc etc Ummm yeah I am due on the 4th and have yet to pack my hospital bag. :rolleyes: :eek: I am slowly working on getting everything done though. I am hoping to have my bags packed by the end of the week.

Sare ~ I changed your stats. I don't know how that happened. LoL

Something funny (well DH doesn't think its too funny), his mom is going out of town this weekend. And one of my good friends who wants to be at the hospital with me is going out of town this weekend. What do y'all wanna bet I go into labor this weekend?? That is just the kind of luck I have. Last night DH actually tried telling the baby that he can't come until after October 29th. Dumbass bought tickets to go see Jeff Corwin on the 29th. And the place its gonna be is about 30 minutes from here and 40 minutes from the hospital. :rolleyes:

Ummm yeah I am due on the 4th and have yet to pack my hospital bag.

I'm due on the 7th so i hear ya! I have a half day at work today because of a doctors appt so i have a VERY long list of places to stop this afternoon to pack the hospital bag. I started last weekend but never finished. Hopefully it goes quickly because my ankles swell just from looking at them ;)

Kadee- My dh has said something about this baby coming early on 2 seperate occasions. 1.) Can't come if the Cardinals are still in the playoffs! 2.) Can't play golf this w/e because the cards are in the playoffs so he postponed to next weekend so the baby can't come before his last round of golf for the season.

On 2 seperate occasions i've told him that this baby comes when it comes. ANYTIME now is fine! lol. ;)

I hope your little one stays put for the weekend. Though i'd welcome more celebration of babies at anytime.

I think it's all wishful thinking that i'll get to have this little boy early. I know i'm going to go past my due date. Both of my sisters were induced with their first child so the chances of me going early are very slim.

Lilla

HOLY COW!

Congrats Roberta and welcome Wesley!!!!

I can't believe our first baby has arrived! This is so exciting!

kadee Oh, I hope baby stays put through the weekend - at least long enough for everyone to get back into town and long enough for you to pack your bag!

ellidew LOL! I'm doing the same thing today! I'm leaving work early for a doc appt and then running to Target to buy the last odds and ends so I can finally complete the hospital bag packing.

WOO HOO!!

CONGRATULATIONS ROBERTA AND DH!!!!

Welcome to the world WESLEY!!!! I can't wait to hear about your birth experience...
I'm a graduate of the "emergency c-section school", so I know it can be kind of hectic. Hopefully it was a good experience as well. :)

Oh, wow! Our first baby! :eek: How exciting...although, like Franni, I am a teensy bit freaked out, as Roberta and I shared a due date ;)

sinclair319 Good luck with your apt...sorry to hear about your DH I hope it doesn't stop him from enjoying the baby.

Katnbug I hope your DH is better and you have your routine back. Don't know about your DH but mine turns into an absolute baby when he's sick.

Rancid Hope that cold has left you alone and they stop the NSTs soon!

ppwgal Re: Starbucks, Wow, I would have either a) broken down in tears (I'm a bit emotional right now) or b) said something like "well, fully caffeinated drinks go better with my cigarettes!" (actually I probably wouldn't have come up with that on the spur of the moment, but you get my drift)

lilla Glad to hear the bag is all packed!

Ellidew I tried to find a place that would check our seat and found out they only do it twice a year! I was very disappointed. I hear you about being excited and anxious, I can't wait to meet our little one but at the same time I am a bit nervous to say the least!

catgirl I hope your daughter's sleep issues improve and give you some time to rest.

Brio96 & bethirish Hope you guys find a way to sneak in some naps...even if it has to be at work with your head on a desk!

Lydia That back pain sounds pretty severe! I hope the combo of meds/baths will help. I took a bath this weekend and it was heaven. Our bath is like yours, my belly sticks out when I just lay down...have you tried (and this is gonna sound strange) laying on your left side in the tub? I did it, and although my hip stuck out a bit, my belly was mostly covered and it took alot of the weight off my back/belly. Of course getting out of the bath was a HUGE production but it was SOOOOO worth it in the end! :D

Bijouparvin Glad to hear the apt went well..as far as pregnancy is concerned I think that no news is often good news, although I doubt I'll be saying that when I'm 2 weeks overdue!

Mimeliza Sounds like you had a good time at your shower.

Euphorea I hope the house gets finalized before the baby makes an appearance. The house move plus training must be exhausting!

Neenbean Sorry to hear you are having some sleep issues as well, seems like all the previous DC are acting up right now.

Kadee THANKS FOR THE NEW THREAD!!!! Hope the crankyness goes away soon.

Yesterday I had two lots of good news.

1. I went in for my follow up urine test yesterday and the midwife said there was no sugar this time! Yay! She said we would keep an eye on it. She was quite surprised because she said it had been very positive. I have a feeling that it might have been the honey soap I showered with that morning...but that's just my uneducated opinion.

2. When I went into work I found out they had found someone to cover my maternity leave and she started yesterday! I am very relieved. She seems to have her head on her shoulders, which is great!

We have another childbirthing class tonight, can't believe we are halfway through them already!

I thought Wesley deserved a complaint-free post from me... so I'm back for my angry post!

I'm waiting for the Volvo service people to come and jump my car which is DEAD in my driveway. :mad: It's a freakin' 2006 car with 5000 miles on it... I don't think it should be dead just yet. Nice. It better just be a battery and nothing more serious. If it's anything else I will flip out.
I have exactly ONE size 6 diaper in my house for DS. We were on our way to WalMart when I found out the car was not starting. The tow truck better get here soon or we will have a problem!

On top of that, I had to call the gas company this morning because we have an overwhelming smell of gas in the house when I turn on the oven and stove top. I didn't think it was a major emergency problem because everything is lighting and the smell goes away when the oven is off... but I had to call to be safe obviously. They confirmed that it sounds like a problem with the appliance itself and not with a gas leak. So... it looks like I have to call Sears or someone to come out and check it out. I just know we will end up having to purchase a new oven. :( Bad bad timing.

I will end on a good note. (Sorry to all of the RO's who's DC didn't sleep well last night, but...) DS slept in his own bed from 9:15 last night until 9:30 this morning!! :eek: OH MY!! It was wonderful to sleep in this morning. Though I was worried that something was wrong with him and actually checked on him a few times!!! If he wants to start a 12 hour sleep routine I won't complain.

Congrats Roberta and welcome Wesley!!!! I can't wait to see pictures and hear all about your arrival!

Stats--my DC's name is listed twice--once under my name, then again further down. Thanks for the new thread--it looks awesome!

I can't believe we're starting to meet our babies already!

Update on DH--no surgery...yet. They're doing an MRI tomorrow, then meeting with the surgeon Monday, surgery is possibly Tuesday. He'll be in a sling (immoblized) for 6 weeks after the surgery, so I'm hoping Corbin stays put for awhile longer.

I just got back from the OB and things are progressing along. We were able to find her heartbeat much faster than last time. Based on where she's been kicking and where we found the heartbeat today, it appears that she is breech. We're going to wait until next visit (October 25) to see if she has shifted more (the doctor will see if he can feel her head when he does my GBS test) and if not, they will send me for an ultrasound and then try to turn her.

Mimieliza~ Ooh, I love the whole wheat Eggos too! That’s my breakfast every morning, topped with fresh berries and a side of 2 scrambled egg whites + 1 yolk. I even got hubby hooked on them…I would be PO’ed if the grocery store was out of them too. I’m happy to hear you had a great time at your shower! That’s not good about the carseat though! I’m wondering if maybe the person who bought it had to back order it?? Is there any way you can find out who bought it? Check out Amazon.com to see if they have the carseat you want, they have a TON of baby stuff on there these days.

Bijouparvin~ Ooh, the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Co!! I think they just opened one up in the new Huntington Center, which just happens to be on my way to the bank. That means I’ll also have to stop by the Cravery, my new favorite bakery just around the corner from RMCC (oooh, the lemon tarts, oatmeal raisin cookies and pot pies). Mmm I know where I’m going on my lunch break. And it’s a lot closer for me than going to the LBC.

Euphoria~ Glad to hear that the little one is still baking in there, not too much longer to go though, wow! Just a few more weeks tops. Thanks for the info about the GSB, I’ll check that out for sure.

Neenbean~ Sorry to hear about the sleep issues with your DD.

Roberta~ CONGRATULATIONS!! I did a double take when I read that post, holy cow! I’m very happy to hear that all is well, what a relief to hear that after the last few weeks/months you’ve had. :D

Kadee~ My parents aren’t going out of town that I know of, but I’m not sure if they’d give up their Ducks season tickets if the big event happens on a game night. Ok, they probably would, LOL. My BFF has several trips planned from mid November to mid December and pretty much if my baby boy doesn’t arrive within a few days of his EDD, she’ll totally miss the whole thing.

Peaches~ My cold is nearly gone! Just the slightest bit of the sniffles, and the occasional cough but otherwise I feel perfect (besides feeling of lack of sleep from these last few nights, mind you). I’m glad to hear there wasn’t any sugar in your urine this time, yay! And yay for having someone to cover for you for maternity leave!

Katnbug~ Oh, I’m sorry to hear about the car troubles. What a way to have to start out the day. Hopefully it will get fixed in a timely manner so you can continue about your day and run errands.

Sinclair~ I’m keeping you guys in my thoughts…hoping that baby stays put a while longer so your DH can recover from his surgery, whenever that might be.

Sare~ Glad to hear that everything is checking out fine at the ob appt, but hopefully baby will turn during these next few weeks for you.

Nursery~ DH has finally emptied the extra bedroom of ALL his stuff! Everything is in storage, and the baby stuff and his Disney collectibles that was taking up room in our living room floor and dining room table are GONE. The baby stuff is in the closet in the extra bedroom, everything else is in storage. He was going to get started on spackling and prepping for painting last night, wonder how it went. He likes to work on that sort of stuff in the middle of the night, while I’m asleep, and I forgot to peek into the room this am to check it out. This is the bedding set we have: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/babybedding005.jpg
And we've decided to do something similar with the walls as they've done in the picture. We picked out the paint colors last night and DH will be working on it these next couple weeks, depending on how long everything takes. Our nursery furniture is awaiting pick-up at BRU so I'm ready to get everything together and organized already.

36 week checkup: Everything is a-okay on my end. Bp was fine. I think she said 120/75 and i know it's been in the 130's so it's staying low. Baby boy is head down!! yay! Still a fingertip dilated. She said she wouldn't be surprised if i went early because i started dilating so far ahead of my due date (over 5 weeks ahead) but that it could go either way. She did take the time to go over when to call the office and when to go straight to the hospital so i feel more comfortable about it actually happening now. I was measuring right on 36cm but she still suspects a big baby is in there. She said she might start checking on it soon to see... by u/s i guess? I didn't get into it. He might end up being an October baby instead of a November baby though. My GBS came back positive so i'll have antibiotics during labor. I'm not too concerned about the whole thing... my sister tested positive as well. I wonder how you get it?

I didn't get nearly as much done today as i had planned because as i was leaving my office to go to the doctors i started to get a horrible shooting pain down my right thigh and walking is nearly unbearable. I did get a handful of things done though and i'll hopefully finish on Friday. I think i just pulled the muscle because i felt it as soon as i took a mis-step. I'm going to soak in the tub and hope it goes away. I don't have a ton i need to get done outside of the house at this point but i did have a few more things on my list. I guess dh could get them.

Rancid- I'm so glad your dh has finished cleaning out the room and you are almost ready to decorate. I love your bedding set and i think it's going to be adorable.

Sare- I'm glad things are going well for you.

Sinclair- I hope your dh has a speedy recovery. There couldn't have been a worse time but it is what it is. Take care of you!

What a mess katnbug. I hope you finally made it out of the house. Don't feel bad about complaining. I could start rambling off a laundry list. I'm all about DONE with pregnancy ;)

Peaches- That's all WONDERFUL news. I'm glad everything is working out!

Welcome Wesley! Congratulations Roberta!
Such wonderful news! I hope baby boy is healthy and comes home soon. :)

~~~~~~~
I had my 33 week OB appointment today and all was well- BP was good, baby's HR was in the 140s and I was measuring exactly 33 weeks. The OB I was supposed to meet was called into the hospital for an emergency c/s, so I met with the MW again. She is nice, but I really need to speak with a doctor. I cannot stand how irratible and irrational I have become. It is so annoying. I am tempted to ask for meds becuase I am not coping well with DD. She is wonderful and barely does anything really wrong, but I am letting things get to me that would normally bring a smile to my face. I know it is all exascerbated by the fact that DH is traveling for work again and I am the lone caretaker. Fortunately, we have a lot going on this week, so hopefully it will keep my mind off things. Ugh.
Anyone considering meds for feeling really cranky or am I just too worried about this?
kadee ~ Too funny about your out of town support ppl and impending labor. Wouldn't that be par for the course? My DH is traveling for work way more now than he did when I was PG with DD and this far along. I think with each pregnancy they get more cocky in thinking it's no biggie if they're out of town.
I think it's all wishful thinking that i'll get to have this little boy early. I know i'm going to go past my due date.
ellidew ~ This is how I feel, too. I keep thinking that DS will come early, even though I wouldn't mind if he was late. It's so hard not to get your hopes up. I'm due on 11/9 and now telling myself that he'll be here by Thanksigiving. :p I hope your leg feels better - it made me wince just to read your post. I'm a fingertip dilated too and have been having tons of contrax that are doing nothing. I joked with DH today and told him that I'll probably be completely closed at my next appt. :rolleyes:
Peaches ~ Yay for low sugar levels!! I know what you mean about the soap. I do have GD and sometimes I'll get a really high # and wonder if it's b/c I just used a super fragrant body lotion... who knows? It might mix in with the blood that touches your skin. I hope you had a fun class tonight.
Kat ~ I'm so sorry about your car and stove issues! When it rains it pours, huh? How's your car now? What did you find out about your stove? You know, I have to admit that when I saw your DS's "big boy bed" I was thinking, "Wow... he sleeps on his own in a regular bed." I'm not glad that you guys are having sleep issues too, but I don't feel so alone. It's gotta be the age thing, esp since they both just turned 2. It sucks!! Glad he had a good night last night though.
Sinclair ~ I'm sorry to hear about your DH. Really bad timing, isn't it? Hopefully Corbin will stay put and at most it'll only be 1-2 weeks that your DH can't hold him. They're so little and light as newborns though that if your DH sits in a recliner of something similar with a pillow propped on his good arm, he should be able to manage DS while you get some time to yourself.
Sare ~ I hope DD turns around for you. She still has time. DS was breech for awhile, too. I think they give them to 34-36 weeks to flip on their own.
Rancid ~ I love the nursery set you chose!! That wave pattern on the wall is very cool (and calming!). Hopefully you'll be able to replicate it. I think it'll be fun to work on.
neenbean ~ HUGS to you for feeling like you do with your DD. I can totally relate. I feel like a major mommy-zilla these days. I've snapped at her, lost my temper and raised my voice :o , and have just been plain moody. I feel so awful b/c like with your DD, mine is doing nothing "wrong"... she's just being 2. It's so hard with these hormones. FWIW, I've read on other mssg boards that these are typical feelings/reactions for ROs in 3rd tri and that it can continue for the first 2-3 months post-partum. I hate that thought, but it's good to know we're not alone.
I had my 35 week appt. today (will be 36 weeks tomorrow). I had the GBS test and my weekly NST. BP was awesome - 110/70, so it appears that acupuncture is working. The NST was normal. I have another NST next week and then at 38w1d I have an NST, growth u/s (b/c of the GD) and OB visit. I've been meeting with the CNPs on my "off" weeks and they've been interpreting my NSTs. I'm still 1 fingertip dilated despite all of the contrax, and my cervix is still posterior. I'm thinking this will be a Nov. baby after all, which is fine with me.
Sleep struggles with DD continue. I've resolved myself to accepting that I'm going to miss my "must see TV" until her sleep issues are over. I missed Lost tonight... the first episode I've ever missed. :( Plus our stupid DVR is broken so we can't record anything. I 1/2 watched Jericho. I guess it's just TV, but it was an outlet for me. Oh well... things could be a lot worse so I shouldn't complain.
ellidew ~ Isn’t it funny how the men think we can control when the baby is going to come?? I wish that were possible. I would love to be able to pick the day that I go into labor. Did you get your bag packed?? I hope your leg is feeling better.
Peaches ~ Congrats on the lack of sugar!!
katnbug ~ I hope your evening went better for you than earlier today.
Sinclair ~ I hope everything is ok with your DH.
Sare ~ I hope the baby turns for you on her own.
Rancid ~ I love that bedding. You have to update us on how the room looks. Did DH get anything done last night??
catgirl ~ Too funny about your out of town support ppl and impending labor. Wouldn't that be par for the course? It would be par for the course for me. Actually I wouldn’t mind MIL not being there. She just drives me insane. I am hoping that I at least hold off til next week though.
Speaking of….I thought I was headed to the hospital tonight. I am getting some awful cramps and for about an hour they were every 4 minutes. I seem to be ok now but holy cow it hurt. And I have no idea what it is but I feel something similar to a bubble burst every time I go to the bathroom. Thank goodness I go to the OB on Friday. I think I might ask to see if she will check for dilation while I’m there. I want to see if all this pain is doing anything or if I am still at a fingertip.
This made me really happy to read since I feel like my patience level with DD these days is pretty much non-existant. I'm trying so hard to remember that my frustration with her is only temporary but some days it's like she's pushing all my buttons on purpose and I count down the minutes until DH comes home and he can take over. Oh, and today we were at a friend's house and she actually chose to sit on my friend's lap and cuddle with her instead of even bothering to try and find a comfortable spot on my non-existant lap. That made me sad.
Had my 34 week appointment and all looks well. I'll start going every week now and will have my GBS next week. No NST to speak of since I don't have BP issues so after GBS it's just a matter of seeing if I go early or not this time around. I don't know what I'm looking forward to more....meeting baby #2 or just not being pregnant anymore. :D
Isn’t it funny how the men think we can control when the baby is going to come??
Yes! DH is an attorney, and he is very proud that he has cleared his court schedule for the week of Nov. 6-10. Great, honey, but odds are you'll be sitting around your office picking your nose when your baby decides to arrive a week late. :rolleyes:
crabbiness - Still VERY crabby. Everyone pisses me off. Work is making me insane. I personally resent everyone because I feel like I want to be focusing on my baby and my home right now and they are interfering with that. And, I have no sympathy for their petty complaints (I work with musicians). I'm freaking nine months pregnant, still playing my instrument, and you don't see me whining and moaning about it, do you? I will be very, very glad when our concert is over on Saturday, not because playing is hard but because I won't have to deal with these whiners anymore!
Sare - Sorry to hear Carys is a stubborn breech baby, too. I guess she and Miranda are letting us know early on that we are not the boss of them! :)
and I count down the minutes until DH comes home and he can take over.
I do this almost everyday. :o It makes me feel so guilty, but I just can't handle things by the end of the day. When he leaves for work in the morning I even get a little nervous, wondering how the day will be. Thankfully we have a lot of activities to do outside the house. DD was so snuggly last night in bed (we co-sleep) that it makes dealing with her 2's during the day bearable.
Kadee ~ Ouch! Sorry to hear about your cramps. It'll be interesting to see if they did anything to dilate you more. Did you deliver early/on time/late with your other DCs? Is your MIL going to be in the delivery room? If so, you're a better woman than I am. :) I don't even want her at our house for at least 3 weeks. She's not a bad person, but she irritates the sh*t out of me.
Holy crap, it's way too early for snow!
I just got in from my 37 week appt.
Nothing new to report, although I seem to be retaining a ton of water.
The car seat is installed and inspected and it freaks me out everytime I get in and out of the car and see it in the back seat. I can't believe I'm going to have a baby to put into soon.
Great, honey, but odds are you'll be sitting around your office picking your nose when your baby decides to arrive a week late.
That made me lol! It's absolutely the sweetest that he cleared his court schedule though! I hope your baby cooperates with his 'plans' and arrives during the time he has freed up.
kadee- I wish i could pick too... in which case i pick yesterday ;) lol. Didn't get the bag packed but i have it started at least. I was in an awful amount of pain and i still can't put all my weight on my right leg and lifting it is horrendous! I did buy disposable breast pads, overnight pads, spaceballs, and a really comfy robe (from target for only $19.99!) I was out of energy and in pain so i gave up! I'll finish it on Friday i suppose.
I'm glad you are feeling better... i'm not sure how i'm going to react to actual contractions yet. Can't wait to hear if you are making progress after your appt on Friday!!
I can't wait for all these babies!!! :D
If you're looking for a comfy robe i found this one at Target yesterday for $19.99! It's super soft! It came in white and blue. I'd liken it to a chenille type feel of fabric.
Anyone know of exercises to 'help' the baby engage in the pelvis? The doctor said his head is definitely down there but not engaged. I wouldn't mind helping things move along and now that i'm 36w 2d i don't think there is any harm in trying. I have an exercise ball... what, if anything, can i do with it?
ellidew
10-12-2006, 08:09 AM
I'm so sorry those of you with dc's are struggling. Hang in there... we're in the home stretch now. You're doing your best and i think that's all you can do.
Snow: I feel ya. We didn't get snow but our low last night was about 36 degrees. I will say with the utmost confidence that being pg when it's cold is WAY better than when it's hot!! I'm totally loving the coldness and i usually HATE being cold.
nic- So good to hear you had a good appt. I'm retaining a lot of water too. Yesterday morning i woke up and my right foot must've been resting on my left ankle and it left a HUGE indention that was red and painful. All the water just moved around where my food was resting. I was a little worried about it. It went away about an hour later though.
I feel the same way about the carseat in my car! I love having it there though! I still need to have it inspected, thanks for the reminder.
"Engagement" exercises If I remember correctly from childbirth class, you could use a grand plie ( (http://www.artofballet.com/class2.html) Make sure you hold on. I know I did these while I was walking around in hospital to help baby along.
catgirl I know what you mean about the countdown. For me, it's the exhaustion that makes it difficult for me to deal with my DD. I am so tired at the end of the day when I come home and DD is so excited to see me that she wants to play and climb all over me that I feel so bad. She just wants to hang out with me, but all I want is a nap. I hope you get your DVR fixed soon. I am not a tv-holic, but I need those few minutes (maybe an hour or two) to unwind at the end of a long day.
kadee I would pick the day I go into week 37 (when baby is considered full term) to go into labor. If there were no risk, I would pick today. I am so over the exhaustion, sleeplessness, crabbiness of this pregnancy. I am also a lot bigger this time, so it feels even heavier. BTW, thanks for setting up the new thread.
Sleeplessness anyone??? I don't understand this but for the past week I have been waking up at random times several times a night. I don't need to go to the bathroom. Sometimes it's related to a dream, but invariably I am awake at least 4 times a night and have to put myself back to sleep. This does not help with the general exhaustion I already feel.
GBS Next week I go for the test. I was negative before, so I hope tht still holds.
nic That reminds me that i haven't even tried to install our new car seat yet. Man oh man, am I far behind?
ellidew
10-12-2006, 08:36 AM
Thanks Franni- Just looking at those pictures makes me tired :D
Sleeplessness anyone??? Count me in... i go to sleep around 10:30 and wake up around midnight not even tired. Other times i wake up because something fell asleep, leg, arm, hand, etc... Lovely tingling sensation! It's not constant though... i have a couple of sleepless nights and then a couple of sound asleep nights. I prefer the sound asleep nights ;)
Lydia
10-12-2006, 09:28 AM
Lydia That back pain sounds pretty severe! I hope the combo of meds/baths will help. I took a bath this weekend and it was heaven. Our bath is like yours, my belly sticks out when I just lay down...have you tried (and this is gonna sound strange) laying on your left side in the tub? I did it, and although my hip stuck out a bit, my belly was mostly covered and it took alot of the weight off my back/belly. Of course getting out of the bath was a HUGE production but it was SOOOOO worth it in the end! :D [/QUOTE]
I'll try it but I severely doubt that I will fit!
Like others, I count the minutes until DH comes home to take over. He is such an angel-he takes care of both of us and then goes to work on our basement that we are finishing. I'm really lucky and I tell him all the time.
DD who is almost 18 mos. is no longer STTN. I don't know what's going on but I think it's the room transition. I usually cave and bring her in my bed. VERY bad habit, I know.
I got pulled over yesterday for going 45 in a 20 when school was letting out and I just started BAWLING like an idiot. Hmmm...hormones?
mayham
10-12-2006, 10:06 AM
Lydia - That stinks you got pulled over. Did the bawling at least get you out of a ticket? I think all preggos should get at least one free pass!
Sleeplessness anyone??? - I've had a couple occasions where I'll wake up to pee, and then not fall back into a good sleep. But for the most part, I can't get enough sleep. I still only get up once a night, thank goodness, but when I do I REALLY have to get up, and it's so uncomfortable.
Sorry I'm so behind... I wish I had more time to get in here to keep up, but work has been insanely busy lately.
I had a doctor's appointment this week, and it went well. My OB advised me to wear wrist guards at night to help with the numbness in my fingers/carpal tunnel. She checked the swelling in my legs and feet and didn't think the swelling was that bad. She just said some people's feet just expand during pregnancy. GREAT. So now I'm not holding out a lot of hope that my feet will go back to normal size :(
In good news it seems the baby's head is down. But her butt juts out of my stomach and really hurts at times.
Apparently I look farther along than I really am. When the nurse dropped me off in the exam room, she looked at the chart and was surprised when she said I didn't have to take my clothes off. Then when I went to schedule my next appointment, the secretary says "Next week?" and was surprised when I didn't need to come back for 2 weeks!
have you tried (and this is gonna sound strange) laying on your left side in the tub?
I do this too and then i rest my head on a folded up towel on the side of the tub. I take a bath almost every night because it's soooo relaxing and i have never been a bath person before. My belly gets cold too so i switch between laying on my back and left side. I have found the best way to get out of the tub is to roll from my left side onto my knees and get up from a kneeling position... it's also the only way i can pull the drain out to let the water down since i can't lean that far forward from a sitting position ;) Who knew taking a bath could be so intricate?
Lydia- That's so sweet to say about your dh! I feel the same way about mine and i consider myself very very lucky to have him. So, did you get the ticket or did he let you off the hook?
Mayham- I hope the advice from your doctor is helping with the carpal tunnel. My doctor checked the swelling in my legs yesterday too but said it’s all perfectly normal. I’m sure your feet will go down once all the extra fluid is gone. I sure hope mine do… I was already a size 10 and finding size 11 is nearly impossible! I’d have a serious shoe withdrawal if that were the case.
I get the butt bump too… then on the opposite side of the bump I’ll get poked! The movement I’ve been feeling lately has been more painful as well and some have even caused an involuntary ‘ouch!’ sound to come from my mouth ;)
Anyone considering meds for feeling really cranky or am I just too worried about this? I haven’t considered meds for my crankiness but then again it hasn’t been all that bad, I don’t think. The only person I’ve been snappy with is my boss, and that’s only because I’m here at 7:30am exhausted out of my mind and he’s already bouncing off the walls which makes me feel even more tired and PO’ed. He can put up with me like this for another month or so, it won’t kill him. I’ve been really weepy this week though, the tiniest thing sets me off.
Catgirl~ We’re doing a variation on the wave pattern from that picture; DH did some templates yesterday and emailed them to me to get my opinion. The wave pattern they used turned out looking kind of odd and too cartoony/warped, so I told him that I trusted his artistic creativeness to draw waves that he felt were better looking. He’s gotten the top half of the wall painted, a light green-yellow color and is drawing the waves tonight so he can get the blue started on the bottom. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I’m so happy to hear that the acupuncture is helping with your bp, that is awesome!! That stinks about missing tv. Hint: You can catch this week’s episode of Lost on abc.com for the next 5 or so days. ;) I have Tivo so I never miss an episode, even if I watch it a week or 2 later.
Kadee~ DH got plenty of stuff done last night, I’m very proud of him. Yesterday he got the walls all spackled and taped, ready for painting. Took down the blinds, and managed to get the top half of the wall painted already. He and my brother also stopped by BRU and picked up ALL our remaining nursery furniture, which is currently taking up residence in his underground parking space until painting is done. Oooh, that’s scary about the pains you’ve been having. Definitely ask the ob about the dilation, you never know.
Brio~ Glad to hear that all is looking good. Just a few more weeks to go, wow!!
Krysten~ Wow, it’s snowing there already?! I can’t believe it’s almost winter…I love the fall/winter seasons so much. The weather here in SoCal has been crisp in the evenings and mornings (ie: 58-65 degrees) which I’m LOVING, and low 70’s during the day. Nice change from the 80-90 degree daytime temps we had a mere few weeks ago.
Nic~ That’s too funny about the car seat! I still have to pick ours up, and was thinking about getting it installed soon too. I’ll probably feel the same way you do every time I see it in the backseat. Like it will make things feel that much more “real” I guess?
Ellidew~ Yay on getting started packing the hospital bag! I have a list so far, that’s it. Most of the stuff on there is everyday use stuff (clothes, brush, contacts) and the rest I could glean from my travel stuff collection (toiletries)…maybe I’ll start getting things together soon.
Sleeplessness anyone??? Add me to that list. I’ve been waking up several times a night for no reason. Sometimes I’ll make myself get up to use the restroom even if I don’t have to go, because I feel like it’s a waste that I’m awake anyhow. It’s usually at 3-4am and sometimes I can’t fall asleep after I’ve woken up so I end up flat-out exhausted later in the day.:rolleyes:
Lydia~ Congratulations on being full-term!! Holy cow!! :eek:
~~~~~~

Well DH got a very good start on the nursery painting, he thinks he'll have it all completely done by the end of the week. We'll see about that. ;) We also are in possession of all our nursery furniture, still boxed up and taking up DH's underground parking space until the painting is finished.

I've been super emotional lately, DH made me cry at work yesterday. Long story short, he went off on me and how I've been making him feel very stressed out these last few weeks. After I hung up on him, he called back 10 minutes later apologizing for taking his stress out on me and verified that I was not the one stressing him out, he was stressing himself out. He's putting a lot of pressure on himself to get the baby's room all done by the end of this week, when we both know that it doesn't need to be done that soon. I reminded him that I was the one who said the BRU furniture could stay at BRU another couple weeks and HE was the one who insisted we pick it up right away.

In no way have I been ordering him around like "We need to do this and this and this, by this date". We know what needs to be done, and we still have time in which to finish it, and I even TOLD him to take his time with the baby's room b/c worst case even if DS arrives early, he'll be sleeping in a bassinette in our bedroom for the first few weeks (months?) anyhow. In the end DH affirmed that I've been very patient and understanding and that any stress he was feeling was coming from himself and/or work. That made me feel a lot better, I swear I'm not this controlling, dictator-like preggo! I know I've been extra weepy lately, but not mean or bossy in the slightest. I've been offering to help with whatever I can, not carrying heavy things or moving stuff around, but with cleaning or organizing or anything else that helps him with time.

Oh Rancid, your poor dh! and you for getting the brunt of it. My dh has gone through a couple of bouts of stressfulness too. It's great that so much progress has been made on the nursery and you are right, you have time. Even if you were due a month sooner you have time. Get done what you can get done and the rest will still be there later on. It's good that you both worked through it yesterday and i hope he is feeling a lot better today.

QOTD-we may have already covered this, but I thought I'd ask again as we get closer to our due dates. Are you going to have anyone besides DH in the room for the labor and birth?

I had only planned on having DH, but since he may only have use of one arm, I'm seriously thinking of having my mom too. I know she'd love to--she'd be a great comfort to me (plus she was a L&D nurse for a long time), but I know that DH feels that if my mom gets to be in there, his should to. My feelings--if I'm spread eagle on a table in pain, I don't want my MIL around. My "plan" for now--once I get the epidural and hopefully get somewhat comfortable, people can come in for short visits until it's time to push, then it will probably only be DH. I'm seriously thinking of creating a code word for "Get everyone out NOW" in case they get on my nerves.

Congrats to those of you hitting FULL TERM!!! I'll be 37w on Sunday!

Sinclair - Just thought I'd jump in to commiserate with you. My DH broke his wrist and had to have surgery almost a month ago; and we've had to put a lot of the tasks he needed to do on hold. When we babysat for our friends' 9 week old baby, it was pretty tough on him trying to figure out how to handle a babe with just one arm. But we get by. And so will you. It's been cool to see how friends and family (and even strangers) jump in to help out when you need it.

crankiness - I have had some MAJOR episodes of crankiness when you consider the fact that I am normaly a very even keeled person. DH was really unhappy about it, and I was like "Tough sh*t. I have every right to be cranky." Anyway, now that I am done working I've removed so much stress and am a much happier person.

my update - DH and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary on Tuesday with what was probably the best meal of my life. Nothing like an artisan cheese cart to make this girl feel special. I also had my shower over the weekend. It was so much fun, and people were so generous. We went from having no clothes, receiving blankets, hats, to more than enough of all those things. Yay for friends and family! Baby boy is still hanging out breech. I've got an appointment with my midwife tomorrow to see what she has to say about that. I'm trying to stay upbeat and think that he'll turn when he's ready...

Are you going to have anyone besides DH in the room for the labor and birth? I'm only planning on having DH and my mom in the room, as well as any needed medical personnel. I want DH in there for obvious reasons, and my mom because she's gonna be my labor coach considering she had 3 kids naturally and was also a labor coach for a few friends of hers and her sister. Other than that, I think everyone else can wait until after delivery to come by and visit. I just want a small but strong support system with me during the active stages of L&D.

PSA re bottles & sippy cups ~ I found this web site through another post: Smart Plastics Guide (http://www.environmentalobservatory.org/library.cfm?refid=77083). We need to replace DD's sippy cups b/c they're getting too beat up and will be getting new bottles for DS. That web site is very informative.

Anyone in L&D room ~ DH & my doula are the only ppl who will be there for me, and I like it that way. :)

Off to find new cups online... I'm having a heck of a time finding the ones mentioned on the web site in stores.

QOTD- I am having DH and my mom in the labour and delivery room with me. I am extremely close with my mom and really wanted her to be there, and DH and my mom also have a good relationship.

Has anyone else noticed a lot of nasal congestion? Mine isn't too bad during the day, but when I wake up in the night or first thing in the morning I end up gasping for air because I can't breathe out of my nose and my throat is filled with some of that congestion that has slid down. (Sorry for that visual)

I went to the pool this morning! I decided that swimming laps and just hanging out in the water would make me feel less sore- and I was right. I did 45 minutes worth of laps all on my tummy and on the walk home, I felt tha baby shift right back to where she was. I was sort of hoping she would shift forward a bit, but she went right back to where she was. Little monkey. :)

QOTD DH will be the only person in the L&D room with me (besides the obvious medical personnel).

congestion YES! When I lay down, I always feel very congested. I hate having to breathe through my mouth and I usually end up having to do that when I go to bed at night. Ugh!

Had my doc appt yesterday - GBS came back negative. They offered me the flu shot and said I hadn't decided whether or not to get it yet...I'll have to mull that one. Had another lovely internal - zero change since last week, which means she hasn't dropped yet and cervix is still closed. Apparently this little girl is pretty comfy in there! Guess I'll end up with a November baby after all.

Today is our fourth anniversary! Yay!

Thanks for the website link catgirl. I didn't know that about bottles and sippy cups either.

sare- Sorry your DD didn't change her position! Swimming actually sounds very relaxing to me right now... I'm imagining the pool at the spa I went to in August and would love to be in it right this minute!!

congestion- I've been very congested these past few weeks, but it's nothing new. Mine started around May and has been pretty bad the whole summer.

L&D- Since we're having a c-section it will only be DH and me... and a bunch of dr's!!

citygirl- Happy Anniversary!!

rancid- Sorry about DH making you cry. :( At least he realized that he was the one putting the stress on himself. This whole experience has got to be hard on our DH's too... especially the first time around. They have even less clue than we do/did. My DH is constantly saying that he can't wait to have his wife back to normal. :) I think he just misses his wine-drinking partner!!!

sleeplessness- Most nights I toss & turn. And every time I turn over I feel like I have to pee... so I get up & then I have trouble getting comfortable again. It's really getting old.

It snowed in the Chicagoland area today too! I don't have a winter coat that fits me, and I refuse to buy a maternity one!!!!! I'll just be cold.
********************************

2 weeks from today I will have our DD in my arms!!! :eek:
Wow! I better pack my hospital bag and get the 2nd car seat installed too!!

DS had his 2nd day at PDO today. I guess it went a little better for him this week, but he still cried quite a bit. :( I think this whole process of leaving him is the most emotionally draining experience I've had with DS. He was crying when I left him, and that just killed me....
....To add to my stress -I was volunteering in the classroom next door to DS with 16-24 month olds today. OH MY GOODNESS. All 10 of them cried for the entire first hour. It was so awful. It did take my mind off of DS for a while though. And I know now that I am not alone!!!

Has anyone else noticed a lot of nasal congestion? Oh yes! I'm sure some of mine can be attributed to the cold that I'm still somewhat getting over, but I definitely notice a difficulty in breathing when I lie down to go to sleep and when I'm first up in the am.

rancid- Sorry about DH making you cry. :( At least he realized that he was the one putting the stress on himself. I think DH and I are about equally clueless, probably me moreso than him I'd say. At least he's had several nieces and nephews over the last 15+ years that he got to spend time with when they were babies. I didn't have any baby nieces or nephews in my family until 2 years ago; it's been almost 20 years since any of my cousins were babies and when I was 8yo I didn't care too much for little babies anyhow. I'm 100% clueless for the most part, which is the #1 reason why I enrolled both of us in all of the baby-related classes my hospital offers. :o

2 weeks from today I will have our DD in my arms!!! :eek:

Oh, wow!!! :eek: :eek: How exciting!!!!

Brio ~ I don't know what I'm looking forward to more....meeting baby #2 or just not being pregnant anymore. I myself go back and forth on this one. I am excited to meet the baby but I am so ready to be done with this whole pregnancy thing. I miss being able to roll over in bed without it taking 5 minutes.

Mimieliza ~ Too funny about your DH clearing his schedule. Some people take those due dates so literally. If only they knew. LoL

Catgirl ~ Did you deliver early/on time/late with your other DCs? Is your MIL going to be in the delivery room? If so, you're a better woman than I am. I don't even want her at our house for at least 3 weeks. She's not a bad person, but she irritates the sh*t out of me. I delivered exactly 2 weeks early with DD and 6 days late with DS1. I am hoping to go at least a little early with this one. As far as MIL, I feel the same way about mine. She can be great at times but she definitely irritates the sh*t out of me. Especially right now when she keeps telling us that we just need to move in with her for 3 months so she can help take care of the baby. :rolleyes: And no she won’t be in the the delivery room with me. The sight of blood freaks her out thank goodness.

Kyrsten ~ Are you getting this off and on crap that we are getting?? I was a little surprised when I got up and saw as much snow as I did.

Ellidew ~ I think that is the same robe I got. It looks pretty similar.

Lydia ~ Congrats on being full term. I hit that mark on Saturday.

Rancid ~ Wow your DH did get a lot done. I wish my DH had motivation like that.

Sleeplessness ~ This sounds like me. I find myself waking up every few hours for no reason whatsoever. Then once I get back to sleep I can’t get up in the morning. :rolleyes:

Are you going to have anyone besides DH in the room for the labor and birth? DH’s aunt was in the room for the other 2 kids and would like to be there to help coach this time too but I don’t know. I don’t really care to have anyone in there. Just let me get the kid out and then people can come bother me. LoL

I apologize if I missed anyone or anything. I was trying post earlier and couldn't get to it when I wanted to.

Hi all--not too much news to report from the check up yesterday.

Blood pressure was 104/60 (I think) Anyway, she said it was low and good!

Heart rate was 141

I'm measuring right at 36 cm (I was 36w4d)

His head is low--down by my pubic bone (that might explain the increased trips to the bathroom!)

And I'm a finger tip dialated!

DH's headed to the Cardinal's game this weekend--it's about 2 1/2 hours away. Plus my mom and brother are out of town--wouldn't it be Murphy's Law that I go into labor! ;-) The best part of this weekend--a pregnancy massage on Saturday and our professional maternity picts on Sunday!

And, I just realized, my last planned day of work is in 2 weeks!!!! I may come in Oct 30/31, but probably not (baby or no baby) EEEEEE!

flu shots-My OB recommended anyone living in the house with the baby should get one, especially since he's a winter baby.

Lydia- I’m so glad you didn’t get a ticket. That would’ve only added to the stress. Plus, personally I hate tickets… they are such a waste of money ;)

Kadee- It’s a comfy robe! Dh washed it and now it’s sitting in the pile of stuff to take to the hospital. Hopefully I finish packing today!

Rancid- My dh is 100% clueless. Though the ‘be prepared’ book seems to have helped and so did the childcare classes. Last night he told me… ‘I read in the be prepared book that the best music for babies is reggae :) Specifically Buffalo Soldier by Bob Marley. Eh, who knew? Lol. I did pop the Bob Marley cd into the car this morning. See if I can’t coax this little bugger out!

Katnbug- That’s nuts!! This morning I was thinking about it… my countdown now starts with a 3 and next week a 2 and the next week a 1!!! ACK! I about went on overload. We should have everything in order by the end of the weekend so we can just relax until the baby arrives. YAY! I can’t wait for you to have your baby girl in your arms. I hope your ds starts to adjust. I’d imagine it’s hard on both of you!

Lilla- That’s great about the GBS. I wish mine was negative. I had to look up what the heck it was! Lol. Hopefully your little girl starts to dislike her surroundings and starts pushing things in the right direction!

Sare- The pool sounds heavenly but I have no idea how you walked home afterwards! I can barely walk to my car my butt and legs hurt so bad. Though I do feel better after I get out of a bath so maybe the water is therapeutic? I’m glad you started to feel better.

Citygirl- Happy Anniversary! It’s wonderful that you had such a great shower over the weekend. Do you feel more prepared now? I did after ours and it’s so cool to have all the baby stuff around! I hope your boy flips out of the breech position! My sisters was head down until 36 weeks then flipped breech and then went back to head down at 38 weeks. He could still turn!! Stay positive!

Sinclair- YAY for being full term. I have to wait until Tuesday but I can’t wait to post a humongous journal post that states FULL TERM!! It’s so exciting! Those are great stats from your doctors appt. Tell that baby to stay put for the weekend and GO CARDS!

Catgirl- Thanks for the info on plastics. There is so much to take into consideration I don’t know how we haven’t lost a few ladies because their heads exploded. Mine has felt like it’s going to on multiple occasions! Did you find cups?

Delivery Room- Dh and I want to experience this alone. As in, without our mothers ;) I’m sure they’ll be right outside the door, even though they aren’t supposed to be, waiting to hear the baby cry. That’s close enough for my comfort. I want the first few moments with our baby to just be us.

Congestion- Occasionally I’ll wake up with a scratchy throat but it goes away once I get moving. Nothing unbearable. Some nights dh says I snore like a freight train! That’s a new one since I’ve never snored before. I have to remind him that my uterus is under my ribs and there is a baby kicking my lungs! Lol. He understands and we both laugh about it.

Update: Nothing much to update on. My leg feels better today so I’m going to attempt to get my list of things done. I am leaving my office at 11:15 instead of 12:30 because my boss needs a ride to golf! Lol. Lots to get done today, mostly returning stuff so it’s not sitting by the door anymore and getting the last few things for the hospital bag. The only house thing we have to get done is installing the light in the baby’s room. We have Cardinals playoff games to watch tonight, Saturday and Sunday so our weekend is mostly full of baseball!

I hope everyone has a great weekend and maybe by Monday we’ll have some more babies!!!

I had her check to see if anything was going on because of all the pain and nothing. She said its still thick and pretty closed up but its softening. :rolleyes: Everything else looks really good. I go back next Friday. I need to check my journal from DS1 to see when things started happening with him.

I posted this thread (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25795) in pregnancy and people have viewed it but no one has responded yet. So i'll ask you girls-

Have any of you developed a sensitivity to smells? I am having a major sensitivity to the smell of DH. I know that I have supersonic smell, and I had his sister and mom sniff him and they don't notice anything. Nothing has really changed and we use all the same soaps and shampoo and I still notice the smell after a shower. We've bought a few different deoderants but I still smell it. I feel liike I am going a bit crazy!

Smell- I love the smell of the bathroom after dh takes a shower. Maybe i'm weird, i don't know. I'm glad it hasn't become something i dislike though. The only smell sensitivity i have is to toilet bowl cleaners. Dh puts those clorox bleach toilet cleaner drop ins into the tank but i spent so much time with my head in the toilet during the first trimester that anytime i catch a whiff of it i want to vomit. I had him switch to a different kind of drop in and he went with something blue but it must be a chemical in all toilet bowl cleaners because i still smell it from time to time and gag. Only a couple of weeks left and dh wont stink anymore ;)

Flu shots~ My ob brought up flu shots at my appt this morning. I haven’t had the flu in about 6-7 years and have never had a flu shot. She said that by the time flu season is here, I’ll have delivered already anyhow. She said if there is anyone coming around giving out free flu shots it’d be a good idea, otherwise not to worry about it.

Rancid- My dh is 100% clueless. Though the ‘be prepared’ book seems to have helped and so did the childcare classes. I love Bob Marley! I’ll have to give that try in a few weeks, I’m not ready to deliver just yet but I’ll try anything that will help bring labor on once I’m full term. Glad to hear your leg is feeling better!

Kadee~ I’m glad to hear everything is still looking good!! That is still interesting about the pain though, hmmm.

Smells~ No smell sensitivity here other than my boss returning to the office after several hours out yesterday smelling like serious b.o. But I could smell him before pg too, so it’s not a change…he suggested that it was me but I told him I’d applied extra Degree before I came back to the office from lunch. He has no idea how bad he smells on some days.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had my 33w checkup this morning and all looks good. My ob reviewed my blood draw & urine sample results from 2 weeks ago and everything came out good, nothing was out of the ordinary (they did a bunch of different tests, like 2 pages worth) but everything is A-OK. I'm measuring right at 33cm although I feel a lot bigger than that. She's still concerned about my blood pressure :rolleyes: because it's been consistantly higher (mid 120's to 130's over 60) than it was at my first appt with them. I pointed out that I also weigh 20-something pounds more than at my first appt so my bp wasn't likely to change until my weight dropped back down.
I also had an NST appt this morning at the hospital, where my bp was recorded at 123/55 thankyouverymuch. :D Everything is still looking good but my ob wants me to continue the twice-weekly NST sessions from now until I deliver. Go figure. Little guy seemed to be alseep for the first 10-15 minutes or so, his hr was in the 130's for a good while there (usually it's right around 140). I guess the spritzer they gave me woke him up b/c he was jumping around in there and his hr went into the 170's on occasion. Got some good readings so that's all good I suppose.
Some 33w belly shots from last night....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/33w0d001.jpg
Wait for it....now the belly goes POP!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/33w0d004.jpg
:D
Funny how much smaller my belly looks (to me) when there's something covering it, then as soon as I lift up my shirt it's jutting out like no one's business.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
Rancid- Re: the blood pressure thing, it is amazing how different OB's are. I had several readings of 140/60, a reading of 138/90, and they barely noticed. I had to point it out, and even then, only one of the doctors in the practice is treating me as pre-preeclamptic. She had me start coming in twice a week, and when I get there, the other doctors are confused as to why I am there. It is really frustrating.
My bp was 130/60 once last week, and then 124/60. In the beginning of my pregnancy, it was 108/55, and other similar readings. The doctor I saw yesterday decided that I could go back to once weekly appts, which is fine, I just wish that they would all get on the same page!
Rancid13
10-13-2006, 04:25 PM
Kyrsten~ That is strange about the bp thing; My regular pre-pg bp was in the 120's over 60's, very average-normal. I had ONE ob visit (on a very stressful day) where it was in the low 140's over 60's and my ob freaked about it. She's now confident that I have high bp. Apparently it doesn't matter that when you gain weight PERIOD you tend to have higher bp readings and I've put on somewhere in the neighborhood of 25lbs. And still have consistent bp readings in the 120-130's over 60's. :rolleyes: At my first NST appt the tech was confused as to why I was there, considering my bp was 122/60 and I've never exhibited any of the other 'symptoms' of PIH or pre-e. Ah, well. Only another month and a half to put up with this and it will all go away. :) I'll admit that it is kinda relaxing getting to sit in a comfy recliner staring out the window at the ocean or the mountains with a nice spritzer in my hand during the 45-min. NST.
Update, I went wednesday to the doctor and the baby is fine, already head down and he weighs about 5,72 pounds (2,600 kilos). He has a very big head and I wonder if he'll arrive early...
I have no more scheduled visits (and thats make me feel a little scared): I have to phone for a last visit near the EDD and going directly to the hospital instead of the doctor's office.
The baby is kicking all day and it hurts a lot on my cribs and stomach...
Blood pressure - At my last visit the OB found it at 145/85 so he was a little worried and he said I have to watch it weekly. Today it was 122/80 and the pharmacist said it was perfect, even if in the last months was usually around 120/70.
In the first month of PG I had 150/90 then I stopped eating licorice (my old drug!) and salt or very salty food and it was ok. Now it seems to raising again and I had two days of headache, but maybe it's for work. I have to work a week more then from next Sunday (22/10) I'll stay at home.
Sorry I have been MIA- make a big announcement and then disappear! I was discharged from the hospital on Friday and have been spending all day at the NICU. I am recovering very quickly, but I need to be careful to not overdo it or miss my pain meds. Wesley is doing very well. He is off formula and getting pumped breast milk. He is in a regular crib and working on maintaining his body temperature. He next goal is to gain weight. Here are a few pictures til I can get back to share my birth story.
Congratulations, ROBERTA & WESLEY!!!!
He is seriously cute. I love the yawn picture... (I'm assuming that's a yawn and not some serious yelling..) I loved all the yawning and stretching my first did - it seemed so grown-up somehow.
Everything is good around here. Some major heartburn, but I've started taking Pepcid w/ meals and that seems to do the trick for me. Oh so tired. Am amazed that tonight I am up so late. Mostly just feel like an overstuffed turkey. Three weeks of work to go, and HUGE for me - a completely unsolicited part-time job offer. This takes so much of the stress off me while I'm out, as I really can't see any way I can make my current full-time job w/ two hours' roundtrip commute anymore. So very happy about this.
We took DD (Susie) to the pumpkin patch today - so much fun! She had a pony ride, led us through the corn maze until I was too beat to follow her any longer, and we did the hayride. Oh, and let's not forget the animals she hung out with - goats, pigs, chickens, etc. She giggled her little head off and jumped up and down - I thought we were never going to get her out of the animal section.
And hallelujah, my football team won today. (Auburn, for anyone who follows NCAA) Which is why I'm up late, because the game didn't start until 7:45 pm.. Although I missed the first half because I was getting Susie fed and bathed and put to bed, and she is seriously opposed to bedtime on general principle. Once I get to singing and putting her in the crib, she's fine, but lately there's always some revolt somewhere in the process.
I also actually got out and bought some things for the new kiddo, rather than just pretending I've got all the time in the world. I got a cute, simple pink-striped coming home outfit.. And a ton of stuff for breastfeeding. And I'm actually making major progress in getting a lactation consultant for while I'm in the hospital. I had a pretty tough time feeding Susie, and only lasted 2 mos. - although I am very, very proud of myself for making it that long. This time I'm trying to zero in on early problems that might have been corrected with intervention from an expert.
And I wanted to respond about people in the delivery room - I had DH only and I was so glad I did. I couldn't stand the thought of excess cheerleaders who didn't actually know what the hell was going on. Somehow being told, even by someone I love, "just hang in there" just doesn't do it for me. And thankfully MIL and my Mom did not expect to be there, although I'm sure both of them would have gladly showed up had I asked. For me, while I was in labor, I wanted as much quiet and dark and cold (I had DH open the hospital room window wide and it was snowing outside - I was burning up..) as they would let me have. And then for the actual pushing part, it seems like it was maybe just DH, the doctor, the L&D nurse, and the anesthisiologist who was trying to clear out as he had JUST given me the epi. Maybe a couple others. But I'll tell you, as cold as I had that room, I think people avoided it as much as possible. Luckily for DH, he had his long johns on as he was at work that night.
Speaking of DH, we went to his college reunion last weekend and had such a good time. Guess that will be my last hurrah for a while.. :rolleyes:
Roberta- Wesley is beautiful! I hope he gains weight quickly and regulates his temp soon so you can take him home!
People in the delivery room- The only people I will have in there is my DH and Doula. Our hospital only allows two support people during pushing and three during labor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DH and I went to our weekend intensive childbirth and education class this weekend. Some of it was informative and some of it I was well aware of. I figured DH would get more out of it than I would. I did have some anxiety when we went on the tour and I saw the rooms. For some reason it started to seem more real when we saw the beds and all the medical equipment. I have not had much fear or anxiety at all about the Labor and Delivery part until we were in the hospital looking at the rooms and the videos. I have watched Birth Day and shows like that, but those never affected me like the ones we watched in our class. I think it suddenly hit me that a baby is going to be coming out of my body...it didn't seem real until now. I don't know if that makes sense. I guess I am not quite at the stage where I am done being pregnant and so, staying pregnant seems like the better option to me right now.

We also saw a little baby being wheeled into the nursery on our tour and my first thought was OH MY GOD we are going to have one of those! It made me feel a little panicky...the responsibility of it all.

Is anyone else feeling anxious? - Just curious.

I have also caught the cold that was going around my office. I hate when people come to work sick and spread their germs :mad:. I am feeling better, but have developed a nasty cough that may require a trip to the Dr., but I am hoping it will get better on its own.

katnbug- I can't believe that you are going to have your little girl in about 10 days! Are you ready?

I hope everyone has had a good weekend!

Copied from my LJ.....
We had such a nice Friday night. Nice, relaxing dinner and we caught up on some Tivo afterward. It was about 9:15 and I asked Tony if he wanted to walk the dogs (we always walk them once before bedtime). I was going to come back afterward and go to bed early that night. So we're out walking and enjoying the cool fall air. Next thing I know, I had tripped on an uneven piece of sidewalk and found myself falling forward very quickly. I did my best to try and catch myself and keep myself from hitting the ground, but the weight in my middle probably helped to pull me forward. I was going down and I remember thinking to myself "don't land on your stomach, don't land on your stomach, don't land on your stomach"..... And I hit the ground. I got up right away and still can't remember how I landed. I couldn't remember if I had hit my belly or not. I was freaking out. We turned around and came back home right away. I think I was in a partial state of shock. We got back to the house and we realized that my points of impact were my knees, both my palms and my head. My belly didn't feel sore or anything, but how the heck could I have not hit it? I was sooo out of it and confused. Tony got on the phone with the OB and I laid down on the couch. I started seeing stars in the one eye on the side of my head that I hit on the sidewalk. I couldn't focus correctly and I couldn't cognitively process any thoughts. Again. FREAKED. OUT. Then my legs started shaking uncontrollably. All of this was most likely just a fight or flight response on my part, but it scared the crap out of me. My head was already starting to swell where the impact had been.

So we ended up heading to the ER. They first sent me up to L&D to monitor the baby for a while. I had started to feel a bit more calm by this point - wasn't shaking, no more seeing stars and I once again had control of my cognitive processes. I still didn't feel any sore spots on my belly where I would have hit it. They did a non-stress test up in L&D. I had a bit of some OJ to get the baby moving. She did really well and she looked great, thankfully. After I was cleared upstairs, I went back downstairs to get my knees/hand/head looked at. Just some abrasions. They didn't do any x-rays for obvious reasons. And if I wasn't pregnant, they may have even done a CAT scan. But they advised me to just keep an eye on my head. I got a brace for my left wrist (my left side bore the brunt of the impact), a script for Vicodin and I was on my way. (I haven't filled the Vicodin script and probably won't.) We got home around 2:30am. So much for going to bed early, huh?!

Saturday I was mostly just sore. The swelling on my nice forehead egg has already gone down for the most part. I'm just left with a bunch of bruises and scrapes. My knees have the same. My left wrist and arm are very sore, but manageable.

I don't know how - but somehow I landed on that sidewalk Friday night without a blow to my belly. Somebody somewhere was totally watching out for me. I am so thankful - things could have turned out much differently. Now every time my little wiggle worm starts moving around inside me, I am overcome with a sense of peace and thankfulness. Tony and I were so scared!

cross posted from my journal:

I have a confession to make: I spent the majority of my waking hours this weekend hoping my water would spontaneously break and we'd go into labor! I am so incredibly miserable i don't even know what to do with myself. I am retaining water EVERYWHERE! Even in my belly so every article of clothing is uncomfortable because as it rests in any one spot too long it creates an indention and if the indention gets too deep it begins to hurt. I also have a bunch of lovely stretch marks that have sprung up in the last week or so. I don't really care about the stretch marks except along with them i have raised red itchy bumps and my tummy is sore. I hate to complain but i'm ready for this child to be born now! Any time now is GREAT!!!

Lilla- That is scary and I’m so glad you and the baby are alright. I’ve managed to not trip and fall on my butt yet but I didn’t come close one time and dh caught me! Thank goodness. What a terrible way to spend your night though… I hope you are rested and feeling better!

Mayham- Great belly shot! I’m so glad you had a wonderful shower and that your friends and family were so kind to you. Have fun playing with baby girls new things!!

Rubbersoul- Yuck! I hope you feel better! Don’t worry about the anxiety, it will probably come and go. I was excited after our hospital tour and ready to just do it right then and there but I’ve had separate moments of ‘what the heck we’re we thinking’ and ‘how in the world am I going to get through this’ at other times. I think it’s natural to worry a little because you don’t know what’s going to happen, especially if you are a first time mom and even then I would think there’s a little sense of panic every time you add to your family because you just don’t know how things are going to change. Fear of the unknown is probably the most common. Hang in there, you’ll be fine!

Lizzie Beth- Overstuffed turkey :) Me too! Enjoy your time off. I wish I could countdown the days until I don’t have to go to work anymore! Since Nov 1st falls on a weekend I think I’ll work through that week and stop working on the 6th unless by some miracle this baby is already here by then! That would be even better! My due date is the 7th so I’m not getting anytime before the baby off. Enjoy yours and relax!
It sounds like you had a great time at the pumpkin patch! My family has gone to a pumpkin farm every year since we were little kids and they all went yesterday but I opted out so as to avoid the shooting pain down my butt and thigh. Lol. I’m sorry I missed it and can’t wait to take my own there next year!

Oh Roberta! What an absolutely adorable little boy you have! Congratulations to you! That’s great that he is on breast milk now. I’m glad you are all safe and happy and can’t wait to hear more about it. I hope the end is VERY near ;)

Scarlet- Yay for being head down. You don’t have any more scheduled visits? I’m assuming that’s common where you are? I hope the baby takes a day off from soccer practice and gives you a little break so you aren’t so sore. Hang in there.

Rancid- Great belly shots! It does appear to POP without the shirt covering it. I feel the same way about mine. It’s too bad I don’t feel smaller with a shirt on! That’s good news about the test results. I know you said you feel a lot bigger and so do I! I swear it’s not 36 cm for my 36 wks it’s like 400cms! Lol. Okay maybe that’s a slight exaggeration. Great bp reading. I know you hate the nst appointments but it’s good that your ob is taking such an active role in watching your progress. Plus, you get to listen to your baby move twice a week!!

What breast feeding supplies do I need? I bought breast pads and a nursing bra and that’s it. Is there more to it? I don’t think my sisters used anything else and all 3 of theirs just latched on right after birth without problems. Can someone enlighten me?

RubberSoul ~ I hope you're feeling better today. 'Tis the season, huh? DD was sick over the weekend. I love Fall/Winter, but hate cold/flu season.

mayham ~ Beautiful belly shot! I'm glad you had a nice shower. :)

Lilla ~ Oh.my.gosh!! How freakin' scary!! I would have totally freaked if that had happened to me. I'm so glad you and your little DD are doing well though. Very scary! Sometimes I have images of me falling down our flight of stairs at home. They're hardwood and you know how walking is these days... I don't know why I have these images, but needless to say I hold the rail very tightly.

ellidew ~ What you're feeling is totally normal. The last few weeks are definitely the worst from a comfort perspective. I'm actually not minding it too much this time around, but with DD I was a b*tch on wheels and completely miserable. Regarding the raised bumps... are those on your belly? If so, you should call your OB. There's a thing called a PUPP rash - I don't know much about it, but it happens during pregnancy and your doc will want to see it. I had raised bumps on my arms with my DD and that wasn't a biggie, but if it's on your belly, then you should call your doc.

My doula is coming over for my last pre-natal appt today! I was talking with my mom this morning about something and she said hopefully I'd get XYZ done before Devin arrives. I was like, "He won't be here for awhile!" But then I thought that I am only 3.5 weeks from my due date and that freaked me out a little. It seems like all of a sudden it's so close. I really hope he comes just a little late. One of my friends had her baby at 33 weeks on 10/12. She was due on 11/30 I think. Baby & mom are doing well, but baby is in the NICU for I'd imagine at least 3-4 weeks. She's an adorable little girl though. Off to see where DD wandered....

Cross-post. :) Do you have a pump? If so, that should have come with all the accessories you need - the tubes, cones, adaptars, filters, bottles, etc. For just feeding straight from the breast though a bra and pads are sufficient. You might want to buy some Lansinoh and Soothies (Walgreens) for soreness. I don't think all women get sore nipples, but it isn't unheard of. We had a super hard time with DD and I ended up with cracked and bleeding nipples. I didn't care for Lansinoh, some women love it. I LOVED Soothies - they're these gel pads you put in the fridge and then stick on your boobs when they're sore - they're awesome!! If you use Lansinoh though, use that after the Soothies otherwise the lanolin will eat the gel off the Soothies. I found that out the hard way. :p

catgirl- I don't know if i'd liken my itchiness to a rash, it's more like raised areas within stretch marks, is this the same thing as a PUPP rash? Before i start freakin' out ;)... can having it looked at wait until Friday at my next appt or is it something potentially dangerous to me or the baby? I scheduled that appt last week and it was the only one i could get this week that worked with my schedule... not that i couldn't leave work for an 'emergency' appt.

Info on PUPP rash from iVillage:

Q: I'm 39 weeks pregnant and have developed a rash over my entire belly. The midwife said that it is PUPP. Please tell me more about this irritating rash.

A: PUPP stands for pruritic (itch) urticarial (like ‘hives’) papules (red pimples) and plaques (irritable flakes) of pregnancy. It is an annoying but benign condition. It is the most common skin condition of pregnancy and is characterised by a typical rash, usually appearing in the later part of pregnancy. It occurs in less than one person in a hundred. The rash usually develops on the abdomen near the umbilical area and spreads to the thighs and extremities. Sometimes itching can become very severe. It can spread to the rest of the body, but never involves the face. It is more common in first pregnancies and seldom recurs in subsequent pregnancies. This condition is usually a familial one and can be traced back through the father's side of the family.
Treatment can involve cortisone creams in the worst cases, but occasionally simple moisturising creams work. So can Calamine cream. Long, warm sodium bicarbonate baths can also be relieving. You may need to be treated with oral steroids if the itching becomes intense, but this is not often the case, and is certainly actively avoided. The lesions usually go away after giving birth. Your baby is not affected.
--------------------------------------

I've been lathering on cocoa butter and sarna anti itch lotion. I'm not sure if my tummy is sore because of the itchiness or the water retention and the craters the seams in my pants leave. Ugh, this is annoying. I'll bring it up at my next appointment but it doesn't sound like something the requires an extra visit.

ellidew ~ I'm sorry! I didn't mean to freak you out. :) From what you wrote, it's probably from stretching skin. I remember mine itched like crazy with DD and I didn't get stretch marks until late 3rd tri, too. By now my skin is used to being stretched and not itchy. :p

Thanks for the bf supply lists. I think i'm good to go with the breast pads and nursing bras and i have a boppy too. I want to make sure we're successful before i buy a bunch of stuff. I have a breastpump picked out but i'm waiting to order it online because it has a 30 day money back guarantee. Ameda Purely Yours $199.95 (http://infant-feeding.babycatalog.com/breast-pumps/purely-yours-breast-pump-with-carry-tote-17077). It's such a large purchase i want to make sure bf'ing works out for us first. Plus, i plan to exclusively bf the first month or 2 so i figure i can order the pump when i get home with no probs. Same with storage bags. Though i want to get the lansinoh bags from Target so they are picked out just not purchased! Thanks for all the advice on this!

catgirl- No worries, everything 'new' freaks me out. Just having the sore belly freaks me out and i keep telling myself it's because the seams of my pants keep making craters in the water retention and then it hurts. It's cause and effect but i worry about it anyway. If anything you helped me realize it's NOT a big deal. So thank you!

More info on PUPP: This must be what i have going on. Thanks catgirl!

Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP), also known as polymorphic eruption of pregnancy, is the most common rash in pregnant women. It normally occurs in first pregnancies during the third trimester with an average onset of 35 weeks. Thankfully, PUPPP does not usually affect subsequent pregnancies.

Appearance of PUPPP
The rash of PUPPP almost always begins in the stretch marks (striae) of the abdomen. It does not involve the belly button distinguishing it from other common rashes of pregnancy. The rash itself consists of small, red wheals in the stretch marks that grow together to form larger wheals on the abdomen. Sometimes the rash can include small vesicles. Over the next several days, the rash can spread over the thighs, buttocks, breasts, and arms. (well, i'm looking forward to this! Bleh!)

The rash is very itchy, or pruritic, hence the name. This condition is harmless to mother and baby, but can be very annoying. It lasts an average of 6 weeks and resolves spontaneously 1 to 2 weeks after delivery. The most severe itching normally lasts for no more than 1 week. (YAY! Only a couple of days to go!!!)

Cause of PUPPP
The cause of PUPPP is unknown. It is not associated with preeclampsia, autoimmune disorders, hormonal abnormalities, or fetal abnormalities. Some investigators suggest that the rapid abdominal wall distension damages connective tissue and causes an inflammatory response. One study has shown that male fetal DNA can be found in skin biopsies of the rash. Since 70% of women with PUPPP give birth to boys, (yup, having a boy!) a new hypothesis is that male fetal DNA acts as a skin irritant.

Diagnosis of PUPPP
The diagnosis of PUPPP is clinical, meaning it is based solely on the appearance of the rash. There are no laboratory tests that detect PUPPP. Skin biopsies are not generally performed unless there is a question about the diagnosis.

Treatment of PUPPP
The treatment of PUPPP is symptomatic. High strength steroid creams or ointments, such as clobetasol (Temovate) or betamethasone (Diplrolene) (oooh, i already have some of this that i use for eczema! I'm going to avoid using it if i can though.) , used up to 5 to 6 times a day usually relieve the itching and prevent the spread of the rash. Once the rash is under control, changing to a lower strength steroid used less frequently is advisable. For severe cases, daily oral steroids may be necessary to control itching. Oral antihistamines such as atarax, benadryl, and zyrtec (yeah, i take this daily already, it doesn't do a lick of good!), are generally less effective for itching than steroids, but may be useful at night to help with sleep.

elliedw I think your itchies are pretty much like mine. Random itchies. Mine has thankfully subsided but now my skin is REALLY dry despite the constant cocoa butter rub. Hope it subsides for you as well. I also do hear you about secretly wanting the pg to be over. I had just an easy pg the last time that I miss those days. With this pg, I am uncomfortable, have been itchy, dizzy, hot, annoyed, sleepless, etc. So yes, in many ways, I can't wait for week 37.

Breastfeeding supplies I think people here have given you a pretty full list already. Only note I would add is to try to find a comfortable space for bf. Remember you will be bf for at least 20 minutes at a time, so make sure whatever space you decide on has a bottle of water, some magazine, the remote...whatever will keep you occupied and comfortable for that time. If you don't think you have just one space for that, one LLL leader suggested one of those shower caddies for all your supplies...sort of like a breastfeeding toolbox. DD#1 was a sleepy eater, so sometimes one session would last more than 30 minutes. It's very hard not to get bored.

Losing the plug I think I have started to lose a little of my mucus plug. I got a small glob last night. It freaked me out for a moment, because with DD#1, I lost the plug the day before I went into labor.

Nightmares??? Has anyone been having nightmares daily? I dream every so often and would get nightmares every so often, but since the sleeplessness started, I would have a nightmare EVERY.NIGHT. Usually a couple different ones a night. This is too strange. never experienced something like this before.

Lilla I am so jealous. I want to be outta here so much I could just burst, but there is so much that needs to be done that I think my boss would be calling in L&D if I left today.

Whoo hoo. I wish i was so lucky to have gone into labor the day after losing mine! That was like 2 weeks ago! ;) Of course, i was only 35 weeks.

Nightmares: No scary nightmares but i've been having a TON of dreams. One includes dh having an affair, the stl metrolink gliding over the water on the Mississippi instead of on the bridge like it does now, being on a cruise where i met a 'whale man'. He was a whale that could become a man! lol. Dh and i had a good laugh over that one. I usually have 3 or 4 a night that i can remember. Last night i had a dream that i called the ob because my tummy was sore and she said it was a bad sign... i actually self induced that dream, obviously.

I hope you get some good nightmareless (word?) sleep soon!

Wrapping things up at work... I did this last week. I went through all my work to make sure everything that can be done is done. I also thoroughly cleaned my office (seriously, i was nesting at work! lol) and made sure my boss knows where my 'pending' work is located just in case i leave one night and don't return the next day (the sooner the better!) I'm caught up and just working on things as they pop up. It's kind of nice!! I don't have a temp or a replacement coming in to do my job, my boss is just going to have to come to work and well, work. Something he's not too accustomed to anymore so it should be an eye opener about how valuable i am ;)

Just a quick drive-by post to say hello to everyone.

lilla: Sorry to hear about your scary fall but I'm glad you and the baby are okay. I'm sure I would've freaked out too. Lucky you for being done with work this week! That must feel so good.

ellidew: Sorry to hear about your rash and I hear ya about wanting to be done! You're due two weeks ahead of me and I'm already feeling ready to be done with pregnancy!

franni: That's great that you might be losing some of your plug. Any progress is good in my eyes. :)

nightmares: Funny that you should mention that because last night I had the weirdest dream. Not an all out nightmare but it was definitely disturbing. I thought it was because I was too warm (my duvet cover is super warm) but who knows.

breastfeeding supplies: I have pretty much everything except the pump. Like Ellidew, I want to be 100% sure that bfing works for me before spending $300 on a pump so I'll probably rent one from the hospital for the first month and just buy the accessories and see how it goes. I really really want to make it work but I want to be realistic about it too. I bought Lansinoh cream but good idea about the soothies. I'll have to order some of those too.

--------------------------------------------

I've been doing okay but last week was pretty rough for me. I just felt like crap for a the last few days and was really uncomfortable. I don't think he's dropped but he is definitely sitting pretty low and right on my bladder. Every time he moves around or gives me a good kick, I feel like I have to run to the bathroom! Not.Fun. In fact, I am now sitting with a small rolled up blanket underneath my stomach to relieve some of the pressure. And my stomach isn't even that large! I've only gained about 25 pounds in total but I feel like my stomach weighs 300 pounds alone. Ugh.

Last night I had to get up about 4 times to pee, which was also not fun. I usually can get by with only one bathroom trip during the night (or none!) but I don't know what was going on last night. I still feel pretty rested today but it just sucks to get up that often.

Let's see, anything else I want to complain about? :D

Well, on a positive note, my DH and I have been making huge progress on the nursery and I would say it's about 90% done! Yeah! We actually changed our minds a few weeks ago on the dark crib and returned it (luckily we didn't pick it up yet from the store so it was easy). So we ordered a new natural colored crib a few weeks ago but it won't get here until early November at the earliest. Ironically, I'm okay with this since the baby will be sleeping in the basinette for the few first weeks anyway. We also bought a glider (even though we have that great IKEA chair.) in the natural colored wood with a cute black and white toile pattern. Actually now that I have it, I have to admit that it is sooo comfortable to sit in so I'm glad we bought it after all.

I've been buying the remaining things on our registry too so we only have a few small items left to buy. In terms of baby clothing, we are definitely set! I actually hope that noone buys us anymore because he has so much for the 0-6 month range. I had a $100 gift card to Children't Place that I got from my baby shower and was able to get a ton of sleepers in the 3-6 months range, which was great. I wasn't really impressed by the infant boys' clothing there but it was fine for basics. Especially since we didn't have to pay for it!

Has anyone bought a cute baby snowsuit yet? I've been looking around and can't seem to find one that I like. I saw one at Children's Place but didn't like that it had baby blocks and teddy bears on the front.

And the greatest news is that I only have 4 more weeks until I stop working! Woohoo! Of course I'd be thrilled if I went into labor at the 37 week mark too but I'll take what I can get.

Breastfeeding supplies - am SOOO proud of myself for getting some of this done this weekend! I had a pretty rough time w/ DD #1. She had a ferocious latch, the nurse said we were doing it right, but I was really in a lot of pain, and the nurse was NOT a lactation consultant or anything.

I bought another breastfeeding pillow, the one with the back support - it's surprising how sore your back gets... A nursing stool would have helped tremendously, too - you contort in some funny ways to get in the right position. This time my DD has a number of little stepstools, I'm going to try one of those. Also bought Lanisoh and cotton washable breast pads. I was so itchy and sore last time (and sometimes bleeding) that the disposable ones would itch and sometimes stick, and OUCH, getting that unstuck. I'm also in the process of arranging for a lactation consultant to come to the hospital. My hospital doesn't have any that come in. Part of the problem is that my hospital had a chart I had to fill in, feed 20 min on each side every 2 hours. I treated it like a test I had to ace. And Susie was so little, (6 lbs even) that everybody was on top of me for her to gain weight - which they just don't do in the hospital. I think she went down to 5 lbs, 9ozs, then back up to 5lbs, 11ozs when we left. I tried so hard and so long, even in the face of some pretty obvious damage that I really injured myself pretty significantly.

Next time I'm going to switch up w/ formula a little and not be so inflexible about the 20 min/2hrs thing. And I have the soothies this time. And I'm going to keep the Lanisoh on it, too, after the soothies. I also had the breast shields - it's something you wear - plastic cups directly over your nipple, inside your bra - there's a hole for the nipple and then the shield a few centimeters over that so that the nipple can be exposed to air for a while without you having to go topless. It looks weird, but it was a help.

I had to go out and buy a pump a few days after we got home. What a lifesaver that was. I would use it and feed the baby from a bottle when I was just way too sore for her to eat from me directly.

I don't want to freak anybody out, it's a great thing to do and I want to do it better this time..

Roberta - What a handsome boy! Glad to hear you and Wesley are doing well.

lilla - What a scary experience. I hope you're feeling better now that you know everything is OK.

ellidew - Sorry to hear that you are SO itchy. I can see how you'd be ready for the baby to come RIGHT NOW. I, on the other hand, am pleading for the baby to stay put and turn head down regardless of how uncomfortable I might be.

----------------

We had a very productive weekend. We bought our car seat and pack n' play. We also replaced our nasty livingroom area rug that shed more than our two dogs combined. That alone is going to cut down on housework by half. :D

DH got the OK from his doctor to start using his arm again. Even though its still pretty weak we were able to get our garage cleaned out & organized, though we still have some more to do on that next weekend.

Baby is still hanging out breech, but I feel like he made some attempts to move this weekend. I'm going in for acupuncture and to the chiropracter this week. Fingers crossed that one of those things works! I'm also scheduling a version in case he's really stubborn. But let's just hope it doesn't get to that point...

Breastfeeding supplies - I love reading everyone's suggestions. So far I have a manual Medela pump that I just got at my shower. Like ellidew and lilo, I've been holding off on the electric one to see how things go first. I really do hope BF works out, but I am trying to go in with an open mind so I'm not disappointed if it doesn't.

Sinclair319 - Thanks for the compliment! I hope it stays glowing too, when it goes back down to normal size (i hope!) after the baby :) YAY for being FULL TERM!!!!

catgirl1007 - Thanks! 3.5 weeks, that is so exciting... I can't believe we're all so close!

ellidew - It IS so fun to play with the baby's new clothes and toys! :) Imagine how it'll be when the baby is actually here! I can't wait, but then again, I CAN wait the 6 weeks, I'm sure it'll go by so fast.

lilla - Sorry about your scary fall. I'm glad everything is okay with the baby!

Scarlett~ Oh, I would be so willing my baby to come out early if he had a big head! I hope for your sake that yours does! Sorry to hear about all the painful kicking, ouch! :( I hope your bp continues to stay low for the next few weeks.

Roberta~ What a precious little bundle you have there!!! I’m so happy to hear that you’re recovering well and to hear that little Wesley is doing so well also!! What an adorable little guy!!:)

Lizzie Beth~ Sorry to hear about the heartburn, hopefully the Pepcid continues working for you. That part time job offer sounds fantastic, and perfect timing too. That pumpkin patch sounds like fun, we don’t have many corn mazes around here, you have to go to the edge of the county for those.

Rubbersoul~ ITA with you on the L&D thing. After attending 2 childbirth classes and seeing a few births on video, I’ve been thinking that maybe this being pregnant thing isn’t so bad after all, and maybe I could handle remaining pregnant for, oh, another year or so before having to give birth? LOL! Being sick sucks, I’m just now getting over a cold I had for well over a week. Tylenol Cold was a good friend to me.:)

Anxious? A little bit. Moreso during the childbirth classes because it feels more real I guess. Other times I can sort of forget about what’s coming in the very near future.

Mayham~ Glad to hear you had a wonderful time at your shower!! Sounds like you got a lot of fantastic, thoughtful gifts. LOVE the belly shot, you’re looking great!!:D

Lilla~ OMG, that fall sounded scary!! At least you got in and seen right away afterwards, that’s very good to hear. Glad to hear that baby was doing really well although you got a little scaped up and bruised. It sounds like your palms, knees and head bore the brunt of the impact-maybe you landed on your hands & knees or something?? Congrats on this being your last week at work!

Ellidew~ Oh, I’m so sorry to hear you’re so incredibly uncomfortable right now! Retaining water does not sound like fun, that just plain sucks! Have you checked out the Inducing Labor thread in the pg boards? Maybe you can try some of those things to see if you can’t get things moving along a bit quicker for you?? Sorry to hear about the itching, I’m quite familiar with itching but for me it was all over my whole body…. I’ve starting itching on my lower belly again though, below my bellybutton, and even if I scratch very very lightly, I end up with nice red welts in that area. I’ve been trying so heard not to scratch, and using cortisone cream and/or Sarna cream whenever I feel an itch coming on.:o

Thanks!! I certainly don’t feel smaller with a shirt on…sometimes I’ll catch a glimpse of my reflection in a window or mirror and it catches me off guard because I look HUGE sideways! But oddly enough, in pictures while sideways and covered, my belly looks somehow smaller than it does both in real life and in pictures uncovered. I don’t get it. I’m not hating the NST appts so much now, I’m finding them quite relaxing instead of being a mere interruption to my day. I get to take an hour+ off from work to sit in a comfy reclining chair, staring out at the ocean or the mountains, with a water or spritzer in my hand while listening to baby’s hb and checking the graph for any (unfelt) contractions. Nope, not so bad.

Catgirl~ Whoohoo for your last prenatal appt!! How exciting!!! So that means you’re full-term, eh? Wow, I can’t believe you’re almost there!! Glad to hear your friend and her baby are doing well, wow I’m at 33w and I couldn’t imagine giving birth this early, I’m sooo not ready for it yet!

Sinclair~ Congratulations on making it full-term! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Wednesday’s appt will bring all the changes you’re hoping for to get this little guy ready to come out.

BF Supply List~ I wanted to add lanolin to the list of things others have already posted about. The teacher of my BFing class said you’ll want a few tubes of the stuff, and definitely bring one packed in your hospital bag. I hear they’re a godsend for sore nursing nipples. Stay away from lanolin if you’re allergic to sheep/sheep products though~there’s got to be something similar that’s not a sheep product out there. And also make sure you have a snack & drink sitting very near you while you’re BFing, I’ve heard that it’s common to get very thirsty and/or hungry while BFing and it’s helpful to have something nearby to snack on or drink so you don’t have to get up during. I like Franni’s suggestion of a “BFing toolbox”. My SIL has a Medela Pump In Style pump that she used for 2 weeks 2 years ago that she’s letting me borrow for my BFing/pumping. I just have to buy the accessories for it ($30 at BRU). It just so happened that the PIS was the BF pump the LC’s at my hospital recommend the most, as I found out also at my BFing class last week.

Oral antihistamines such as atarax, benadryl, and zyrtec (yeah, i take this daily already, it doesn't do a lick of good!), are generally less effective for itching than steroids, but may be useful at night to help with sleep.

How about Claritin? It’s stronger than Benadryl and my doc okayed it for daily use while pg. I take Benadryl at night too, to help me sleep (mostly) itch-free.

Nightmares? None here, but I’ve been having some amazingly vivid dreams for the last week or so. No idea if they’re Benadryl-induced though. I must be sleeping pretty soundly, which is a nice change from a few weeks ago where I couldn’t fall asleep at night or stay asleep for more than an hour or 2.

Lilo~ Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling like crap lately! Complain all you want, a lot of us are commiserating with you. I definitely feel like I have to pee a lot, based on the position baby is in. I could have just relieved myself and as soon as I pull up my pants, I feel the urge to go again because of how he’s laying. I never know if I actually have to pee, or if I just feel like I do. Let’s just say that there are a lot of false alarms daily. Yay for making progress on the nursery!! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Citygirl~ Yay for a productive weekend! Hopefully the visits to the acupuncturist and chiropractor will help get baby out of breech and into the head-down position. Fingers are crossed!

Birth Plans? I was wondering if anyone has been working on or come up with a birth plan? Out of curiosity more than anything, because my ob brought up the subject at my appt on Friday. I felt a mild panic b/c I hadn't even thought about a birth plan, and she went on to say that a lot of her patients have very specific, detailed birth plans and if one little thing goes not as according to plan, they get very disappointed and/or feel like failures as a result. I told her that I wasn't planning on making a birth plan, that I wanted to be as flexible as possible so that no matter what happened during L&D, I could take it all in stride. I told her that the only thing that I wasn't open to was an episiotomy unless it was an absolute, 100% dire, necessity in my situation. She liked my open attitude and said that flexibility was definitely something that was good to have during L&D...I just wanted to get some others' thoughts on the idea of having/not having a birth plan though.:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I forgot to mention that I had another NST appt on Friday and it was really interesting. My appt was in the morning this time instead of right after lunch, so I made sure to take some snacks with me as the NST was about an hour after my ob appt. I had a banana, some Whoppers, and some other candy because they want the baby to be moving and grooving for the hr monitoring. Didn’t work. Baby must have been sound asleep for the first 15 minutes b/c the hr was very steady in the high 130’s then it dropped to the mid 120’s (I mildly panicked at that time b/c normally it’s right around 140). The tech got me a spritzer to drink and a few minutes later he started kicking around and hr shot up to the 170’s. Tech didn’t think anything was “off” but it was the most difference I’ve seen yet between his resting and active hr’s (normal from what I’ve seen being resting=140 and active=160). She took me in for another u/s and fluid still looks great, and his heart and lungs look great. No protein in my urine and all still looks good. I was sitting there thinking “Um…baby? Start moving please?”
“Um…baby? Start moving please?”
Oh yeah, i've had that moment! When i had to go in for my nst it was for lack of movement and that was all i was thinking! It took about a gallon of apple juice to get my little guy going though. I'm glad your appt went well and that everything looks good and it's nice to hear that you are taking that time to relax each day. I could really use an hour in a recliner staring out at the ocean right smack dab in the middle of my day :D
I've been debating about spending the money on the lansinoh breast cream they sell at Target but since it appears most people use it if i get by Target before the baby arrives i'll pick some up to pack with me.
off to check out the self inducing labor board now... i had a long talk with my ds on the way back from picking up lunch and i told him that he could come anytime and that he has lots and lots of family ready to meet him and love him. 'Cept the dog, i'm not so sure our dog is ready ;) So far, nothing... i guess you can't reason with babies in the uterus!
mayham- My ds is going to be so overly stimulated the first couple of days because i have a couple of outfits i can't wait to see him in and swings, bouncers, playmats, toys, books, etc... to try out! I think i'll need to pace myself! lol.
citygirl- I hope that little boy of yours does a flip SOON! My fingers are crossed for you. Keep us updated! You had an awesomely productive weekend! Congratulations. Hopefully your dh didn't overdue it with his arm though.
Lizzie Beth- I wish you the absolute best of luck with bfing the new baby. Hopefully it's just a matter of different baby different bf'ing style and it will work great this time. you should be proud of yourself for how long you did it the first time though. You gave it everything you had and that's wonderful. Good luck!
Lilo- I’m so sorry you feel miserable too! I’ve had the bladder kicks too. They kind of make you go ‘whoa…!’ lol. Getting up to use the bathroom is a pain in the butt but I can see your 4 and probably raise you at least 4 more. I swear I see every hour of the night as it goes by and sometimes go to the bathroom more than once during the same hour! It sucks. If you just started doing it I can tell you that getting up to do it and getting right back to sleep gets easier. At least it did for me. Complain away… sometimes I come here to complain just so dh doesn’t have to hear about it. I haven’t complained to anyone but him irl. I hate to have people think I’m just whiny and annoying. You guys get to hear all about it though! So does dh, pooh guy.
My mil gave me a bunting thing. It’s just fleece and it’s two pieces. 1 piece is the inside overalls and then a solid outside shell like a sleeping gown only closed a the bottom with a hole for the safety belt. I don’t want to get a really heavy one because we aren’t going to be outside that much and in the car I’ll probably just dress him, put him in the carseat, and then put a fleece blanket over him or we bought one of those fleece car seat covers. I’ve heard that baby’s can overheat in the carseat and a snowsuit in a heated car. I’ve never done this before so take that for what it’s worth.
GOOD NEWS--DH doesn't have to have surgery!!! So now Corbin can come anytime--excpet I'm hoping it will be after Thursday since a friend and I are going to the Blue Man Group!
DH's brother and his wife had a baby in Feb (and they are both built similarly to us). I just realized that if we were them, I'd go into labor on Wednesday!!! (He was 2 1/2 weeks early, but 7 pounds 13 oz) Need to get the car seat installed soon. Of course, considering this is *my* child, he'll get my stubborn genes and have to be forced out. ;)
CityGirl-Glad to hear your DH got the thumbs up on his arm!
Rancid-my birth plan sounds very similar to yours--trying not to get my hopes up or set on any specific plan
Ellidew-following you to the self inducing labor board for ideas!
That last sentence has me LOLing. So true, isn’t it? It has been nice relaxing at my NST’s…it’s funny that he was so quiet on Friday, as he’s been incredibly active for the last few weeks. You may recall me talking about my first NST appt, where DH and I were laughing almost the whole time b/c he was moving so much that the little monitors were bobbing around, and the transmission kept getting screwy and the tech kept having to reattach them. He must’ve outdid himself all day/night Thursday and come Friday morning was too pooped to do anything?
Oh, that’s wonderful news!! Whoohoo!! Have fun at the Blue Man Group, it’s a really neat show. Very odd, but also very cool. I’ve never seen anything quite like it (DH and I saw it in Vegas a couple years ago).
Rancid-my birth plan sounds very similar to yours--trying not to get my hopes up or set on any specific plan
I'm thinking I might jot a few things down, more like bullet points than an actual plan. Ie: who I want in the L&D room, that I'd like use of the spa/birthing ball/etc. to assist with labor, that I'm open to medication and c/s if necessary, that sort of thing.
elliedw Buy the lansinoh. If you don't use it as breast cream, it is great to use on baby's dry skin especially the areas that is close to the mouth. DD had such a bad case of eczema at times and we were afraid to use any other lotion when she was small because she might put it into her mouth. Lansinoh helped with the dry skin and can be safely ingested by baby.
Franni - That's a great use for it! I'll definitely pick some up when i'm at target.
Rancid- My ds has those days where it feels like he never stops moving and then the next day i'm panicing that he's not moving. Dh always has to remind me that he's pooped out!
Birth plan- My plan basically consists of giving birth ;) Dh and i have discussed reserving the right to kick anyone out of the labor room if we just need a break but other than that i'm taking things as they come. I really don't know what to expect so i don't want to set up a bunch of expectations and then find out things just can't go that way. I think i'll be more opinionated with dc 2+ because i'll know more about what to expect. Maybe i'm naive?
I have HAD it with PANTS!!! That's right you read that correctly, pants. I've even begun to wonder if they are 100% necessary ;) Seriously, they are leaving these crater creases on my skin that just throb and ache and i can't take it anymore. I already asked my boss if i can leave 30 minutes early (that's 20 mins from now) because i'm going out of my itchy creased belly mind! I'm going to go to old navy in the hopes of finding some completely non restrictive oversized stretch pants... then i asked for permission to wear sweat pants to work, which i was granted. :) But seriously, pants are my nemesis right now! Horrible horrible horrible pants!
Maternity Roll-Panel Knit Pants
I bought the black and the gray, in a size larger than I normally wear at ON. Normally I'm a small, but I got these in a size medium and they're super stretchy, the waistband is super wide (almost 6") and not the least bit constricting, and the material is extremely soft. Any ON that has a maternity section should have them. When my jeans start getting more uncomfortable, I'm gonna start wearing these to work with t-shirts and flip flops.
Birth Plan ~ We have one. I'll post it below. The parts that are most important to me are "Delivery" and "Immediately After Delivery". I'm considering deleting the rest b/c they're obvious and I've already talked with my docs about those items. One of the OBs told me that he won't read it before I delivery and if he did, he doubts he'd remember the details. He said that he knows that most women want to avoid c-sections, etc., etc., etc. That makes sense to me - I mean, how many patients do they have and would they really remember one individual birth plan? I am definitely taking mine with me though so that DH & my doula can remind me of things when I'm in too much pain to think straight, and so that they can ask the nurses to follow the 2 important sections.
I think I got the form for my birth plan at BirthPlan.com or something along those lines - there was a birth plan thread in one of the FP forums.
Dear doctors, nurses, and hospital staff,
I want to start by saying how excited we are to be able to birth at this hospital and work with such a talented staff. We have a few things in mind for our son’s birth and would appreciate the chance to share our preferences with you.
Sincerely,
________________________________________
Labor
1. I would like to be free to walk around during labor.
2. I wish to be able to move around and change position at will throughout labor.
3. I would like to be able to have fluids by mouth throughout the first stage of labor.
4. I do not wish to have continuous fetal monitoring unless it is required by the condition of my son.
________________________________________
Labor Augmentation/Induction
1. If labor is not progressing, I would like to have the amniotic membrane ruptured before other methods are used to augment labor.
2. I would prefer to be allowed to try changing position and other natural methods (walking, nipple stimulation, etc.) before Pitocin is administered.
________________________________________
Anesthesia/Pain Medication
1. I realize that many pain medications exist — I'll ask for them if I need them.
________________________________________
Cesarean
1. Unless absolutely necessary, I would like to avoid a Cesarean.
2. I would like my husband present at all times if my son requires a Cesarean delivery.
3. If my son is not in distress, my son should be given to my husband immediately after birth.
________________________________________
Delivery
1. I would like to have my son placed on my stomach/chest immediately after delivery.
________________________________________
Immediately After Delivery
1. I would prefer that the umbilical cord stop pulsating before it is cut.
2. I would like to have my husband cut the umbilical cord.
3. I would like to hold my son while I deliver the placenta and any tissue repairs are made.
4. I would like to have my son evaluated and bathed in my presence.
Just a quick post to tell you that Hilary Ann is here!! She decided to make her entrance into the world on Friday the 13th at 8:58am via c-section after my water broke. She was born at 37 weeks exactly and weighed 7lbs even and 19 1/2 inches long. We got home from the hospital this afternoon & promise to post more tomorrow...
An alternative to nursing bras ~ I have never found a nursing bra that felt comfortable or that I liked and I nursed DD for 22 months. I ended up, very early on, buying Barely There Microfiber Crop Top bras (http://www.barenecessities.com/Barelythere_product_BALI103_,size,.htm). They sell them at Kohl's and you can get a good deal when they have their lingerie sales. They pull over the head and are so comfortable that it doesn't even feel like you're wearing a bra. I just lifted it up on whatever side I was nursing. Some of the nursing bras are too hard to maneuver when you're holding a screaming infant. It says that it fits A-C cups, but I was a D (I think 36 or 38 band size) shortly after I had DD and I wore a size large bra in that style. They don't provide a lot of support, but I figure my boobs are so saggy from being PG twice and BFing that when I'm all done with this I'm going to get an amazing Victoria's Secret push 'em up and squeeze 'em together bra. ;) :) Here's a pic of the Barely There bra:
Question for those who had their water break... (and this is WAY TMI!!!)
What did it feel like?? I am only asking because my pj's are a little damp and they have been since early, early morning. I smelled them and they don't really smell. I never had my water break before so I am clueless about what happens. I am not having any contractions or anything like that just the damp thing.
kadee - re:water breaking - I was watching tv with dh around 8pm and felt a trickle of fluid. I knew (hoped!) I wasn't peeing on myself but it was literally just a trickle and then it stopped. Fast forward to 3:30am that same night/early morning - dh comes to bed after playing on the computer and I get up to go to the bathroom. There was the trickle again, a kind of pop and then a gush. There was no mistaking then that my water had broken. I guess it had started to leak the night before but didn't pop until I got up and moved around. That was my experience anyway! Maybe you'll be the third Nov. momma to welcome your baby! :)
I have been moving around for the past hour and nothing. It sort of feels like one little drip every so often but thats all. Its just very odd. I guess I should wear a pad (like it would help :rolleyes: ) or something since I have class today and I really need to turn in the test from last week. I am going to hurry and try to get a load of Matthew's clothes done and get my bag packed before I go to class just in case. As bad as this will sound I hope the next one isn't me. At least not until I get a few more things accomplished around the house.
Kadee With DD #1, I just woke up with wet underwear. I didn't get a pop or feel anything unusual. I woke up probably around 8:00 AM. Labor for me started progressing in the afternoon, around 3:00 PM.
Welcome to the world, Hillary!!!!
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I feel like I was never gone, back home on CC posting like usual!! DH took DD to the hospital this morning for a follow up jaundice test - DS is watching Blues Clues, so I thought I'd come and try to post.
My Birth Story-
I was having my usual night of getting up to go to the bathroom every 45min. or so. When I got up at 3am feeling that I had to go again I felt something leak when I sat up. It was just a little leak, making me think I peed myself a tiny bit. I went to the bathroom and back to bed. My contractions (which I didn't really KNOW were contractions at this point) started almost immediately. It wasn't painful, just a little crampy feeling in the lowest part of my abdomen. When I realized that they were coming at pretty regular intervals - about 8 minutes - I started really paying attention. I laid there for about an hour or more and watched the clock. The "cramps" were getting a little worse, but staying around 8 minutes apart. I had to go to the bathroom again & sat up and "leaked" a little more. Now I really began to wonder... could this be it?? I went downstairs and got out my pregnancy book. I had never experienced water breaking or contractions with my first pregnancy, so I had no idea what it was supposed to feel like. The pregnancy book described contractions as starting from the back and moving around to the front. Mine were only in the front. No back pain at all. So I drank a few glasses of water and laid down again. DH woke up at around 5am and saw me laying there wide awake. I said "I have some crampy feelings." And he immediately freaked out. :rolleyes: Asking me if this was "it"?? I told him I had no clue! After another 1/2 hour of the "cramps" getting more painful he made me call my dr.
I left a message with the answering service and she said "Dr. S is on call and will call you within 40 minutes." I thought this was a good sign because there are 5 dr's in my practice & Dr. S my favorite. She is the one who delived DS and she was scheduled to do my c-section on the 26th. She called back within 5 minutes - sounding VERY groggy. Her first question was "Did your bag of waters break?" I said I didn't know, and immediately felt stupid for calling. But I said there were a few trickles, and that I was having "cramps" that were now 6-8 minutes apart and getting more painful. She said that since the office didn't open until 9am that I should just go into the hospital and she'd meet me there and check me out. This was a little before 6am. We called my sister and BIL & my BIL picked up immediately - he's an early riser!! He works from home and luckily had no meetings scheduled for Friday so we made arrangements to drop off DS on our way to the hospital.
PSA- To all of you SLACKERS who haven't packed a bag yet... DO IT NOW!!!! ;) I was one of you... I had NOTHING packed. DH and I were scurrying around the house for a bag and necessities, while my cramps/contractions were getting much worse!! It was not fun. We forgot some important things, like the extra batteries for my camera which it turned out was out of batteries!!! (We did get some pics with my video camera thankfully) But seriously - pack now. It is much easier...
Getting long... will continue on another post before I lose this.
Thanks for the PSA katnbug - I'll suck it up and finish packing tonight. I do know that dh charged the camera battery over the weekend ;)
It sounds like your experience was rather calm so far. How weird is it to have 1 ds one day and 1 ds and 1 dd the next? I'm so glad everything turned out well and that you are all doing fine. Can't wait to see pictures of Hilary Ann!! I'm glad you were able to get some!
kadee- I honestly don't know. My ob told me last week that it would 'feel different' but i don't know what that feels like ;) I know they can do some test to check for amniotic fluid so maybe you should just call your doc. Mine said they just send you to l&d to have the test done and it's really simple.
As bad as this will sound I hope the next one isn't me.
I'm happy to stand in for ya!! :D I hope i AM next... now is good for me! ;)
continued...
We got to my sisters house around 6:30am and I immediately got emotional. I didn't want to drop off DS. I felt guilty and scared. If this was "it" I would be having a c-section which is obviously surgery. Of course DS was already running into the house to play with his cousin and had no clue!! I got myself together (the distraction of EXTREMELY painful cramp/contractions at this point actually helped at this point) and we left for the hospital a few minutes away.
We got to the emergency area and I was put in a wheelchair and told to wait for someone from L&D to come get me. Dr. S said she was going to call ahead to L&D and tell them to expect me. The nurse came down in just a few minutes and we were off. She asked me if my water broke. I again said I don't know, and again felt like an idiot. DH was telling her that regardless of the water breaking I was experiencing some hellish contractions. I still wouldn't call them contractions at this point - all because my pregnancy book said they go from back to front and mine didn't! :rolleyes:
I got into a L&D room and they started with all of the paperwork - asking tons of questions and getting insurance info etc. The nurse who wheeled me up had me change into a gown and was going to check to see if my water broke. My cramps/contractions were only 4 minutes apart at most and probably the most painful thing I've experienced in recent memory. I don't want to scare anyone because I know everyone is different and everyones pain tollerance is different, but I thought I was pretty tough as far as pain. NOT! It was AWFUL. I regret ever feeling sad that I wasn't going to experience any of the "normal" pregnancy things, since I was having my 2nd c-section... be careful what you wish for, right?? ;)
Anyhow - the nurse checked me internally. She had some strip of paper that would detect if my water broke. It evidently didn't "change colors", because she immediately said "Nope, doesn't look like your water broke." She then showed the paper to a few more nurses and they seemed to agree. Meanwhile, I'm having my cramps - which the nurse finally confirmed were official contractions, so I was feeling a little better about coming to the hospital and wasting everyone's time. Then Dr. S showed up and said she was going to check behind my cervix(?) because the water can pool up back there and not be detected. She was 2 seconds into my internal exam and said "OH yeah, your water definitely broke. Baby's coming out today!"
A flurry of activity. Dr. S wants to do the c-section as soon as they can get me ready. Not because of potential problems or distress to the baby or me... I think she just wanted to get it done. I didn't feel rushed or anything, I wanted to be free of the pain of contractions!! So I was more than happy that things went quickly. Lots of paperwork. An AWFUL nurse or assistant or someone (I wish I paid closer attention to what she looked like so I could go back and kick her ass) who tried to get an IV needle into my WRIST and kept hitting bone or something! It was honestly more painful than the contractions at that point. DH almost yelled at her to stop, but she finally got it in - though the area is still bruised and painful to the touch as I sit here today. After just a short time I was being wheeled into the OR. At this point I decide to get emotional once again. I started crying. DH had to wait outside the OR while the prepped me and gave me a spinal. I didn't like the idea of him not being with me. I again started thinking worst-case-scenrio. A nurse asked me if I was crying "happy tears" and that made me cry even more. Again, I got myself together and called myself a moron, which made the nurse laugh. They moved me onto the table and we got ready!
posting so I don't lose... TBC...
...continued
The anesthesiologist (I totally spelled this wrong I'm sure ;)) was great. VERY friendly and funny. Told me everything that was going to happen. Even though I'd been through a c-section 2 years ago I needed a refresher. He had me sit up and slouch over forward for the spinal. This process scares me. I tried to think of nothing, but my mind wouldn't let me. It took a while for him to find the right area to stick me - when you have more fat between your skin and backbone it's not as easy!! He was nice enough not to call my back "fat" but that's not news to me. :o He did a great job though and it was not too painful. I was worried that I would have a contraction as he was sticking me, but somehow I was spared of that. The spinal took effect almost immediately. DH was brought in pretty quickly. We were chatting away while the c-section was going along smoothly and before I knew it we heard her little cry. Confirmation that she was definitely a "she" which is nice! And they took her away to be cleaned up. DH waited until they called him over to see her (he has a very weak stomach and didn't want to see too much!! ) and then they brought her up to my eye level so I could see her! She looked exactly like my ds, but with dark hair!! Then she was gone to the nursery.
...got to go feed DD - they're back from the lab- I'll be back shortly (hopefully) to finish up!...
...cont.
So DD comes out all perfect! :) And they had a neo-natologist in the delivery room just in case he was needed as DD was 3 weeks early. But she scored 9s on her apgar. 7lbs even and 19 1/2 inches. 10 very long toes and 10 fingers which already needed a manicure. Very wrinkly.
DH went to the nursery with DD while I had my tubal. This part took another 1/2 hour at least. The anesthesiologist was on his phone at this point which I thought was funny... he was talking about websites with someone?!? Dr. S at one point asked if I was positive I wanted the tubal.. I said "are you at the point of no return or something?" and she said yes. I told her I definitely wanted the tubal after the pain of those contractions I had!! All in all, the c-section and tubal took about an hour. DD was born at 8:58am and I was in recovery by 9:45.
My sister showed up at the hospital while I was in recovery. She had gone to work after we dropped off DS. She figured she'd get a little work in before we had the baby if she was going to be born that day.. she didn't realize it would all happen so quickly. My parents were in Door County Wisconsin for a week and not due back until Sunday. BIL had called them to keep them up to date and they decided to start the long drive back when it was confirmed that DD was coming that day. They ended up arriving in the early evening. DH's family is all in downstate Illinois, so they weren't going to be coming. We just kept them informed with phone calls.
My recovery in the hospital went really well. I got 4 nights per my insurance because of the c-section. I ended up staying 3 nights since I was there so early on Friday. My blood pressure was up and down, but never dangerous. My ob wants me to monitor it though. The c-section incision is not too painful. I've got vicodin to take if I need it. :)
DD was not eating great. I'm breast feeding, so it's hard to tell what she's getting. She latches on great, but not often. She started waking every 4 1/2 to 5 hours to eat. We couldn't get her to wake up and eat in between no matter what we tried! Because of this, she started getting jaundiced by Sunday afternoon. On Monday morning her numbers were pretty high. They didn't put her on the lights, but I have supplemented already with a bottle after I breast feed her to see if she'll take any more. She has, so I don't know if I'm producing enough milk for her. I'm going to try pumping as soon as I can get DH to the store to buy more bottles for my pump (see - I really wasn't prepared!!! ;)). I'm ok with suplementing with formula. I did that with DS for almost a year and it worked out well. But I'd still like to get as much breast milk in DD as possible! Anyhow, we already got the results from the lab test this morning and her numbers are up a little more. So now she's sitting in her bassinet in front of a window - getting a little natural light which supposedly helps! Back to the lab for another test tomorrow. :(
As far as DS goes... he's not overly interested in DD. Sometimes he shows signs of being jealous. When his little cousin was showing interest in the baby he didn't like that. And when my mom was holding the baby he yelled at her and wanted her to give her back to me so he could play with grandma. Other times he lets us put her on his lap (with supervision of course) and he giggles and points at her nose and mouth and ears. It's very cute. We're being very careful to give him as much attention as we did before at this point. I felt really guilty about pawning him off on my sister and my mother all weekend... though I think he had a great time with them, I know he was a little confused as to where I was.
OK. That's all for now. I have to go change a diaper. I will post one more time with a picture... then I will give you all a break from my rambling story!!
Kat ~ That was an awesome birth story!! This would have freaked me out:
She was 2 seconds into my internal exam and said "OH yeah, your water definitely broke. Baby's coming out today!"
It's like you wait all this time and all of a sudden someone is saying it'll happen "today". It sounds like everything went very smoothly, despite the surprise of labor. You have definitely motivated me to pack my bags! Do you remember when your milk came in for DS? I think mine came in at 3-4 days. I wonder if it's taking a little longer since Hilary was born early...? We had to supplement DD early on, too. You gotta do what's best for the baby. Too bad we're having such an overcast day today, huh?! Do you have to take her to the hospital to put her under the lights until she has lower numbers? I know nothing about jaundice. :o I really enjoyed reading your birth story and can't wait to meet little Hilary. She is gorgeous!! Sorry I have not been around lately. Our power went out on Thursday due to the HUGE storm that hit WNY and am finally home again with running water and electricity were restored on Sunday. :) We got at least 2 feet on snow between Thursday and Friday but due to the warm weather, it is nearly all melted now.
So much to comment on and I really have a lot of stuff to take care of around the house. I have mostly packed my hospital bag, still need to get replacement tubes and more bottles for my pump.... We have a friend lined up to watch DD and a back-up person as well.
CONGRATULATION katnbug!!!! How very exciting. :) She is adorable! Thank you so much for sharing your birth story! You make is sound so easy. ;)
It was indeed quite a surprise. I was going back and forth for a few weeks as to whether DD would be early or not. I had settled on "not". Guess I was wrong!
I know my milk came in when I was in the hospital with DS & I was in for 5 days.. can't remember exactly when though. I think mine came in yesterday. A total change in the feel and look of my bbs! I got some bottles for my Medela pump and pumped a little while ago. She actually just fed good from one breast and wouldn't take the bottle after that. Who knows. I just know I want to try expressed breast milk if she won't latch and feed.
They haven't had to put Hilary under the lights yet. She's just going to the hospital for additional blood tests at this point. The pediatrician thinks the numbers will start to go down very soon. She's pretty lethargic, probably because of lack of calories/nourishment. But I know she's getting something because she's pooping and peeing a ton. Hopefully tomorrows labs will show the #'s going down.
DH just got me lunch & I have to go eat before DS and DD wake up from naps!!
katnbug- Congratulations! Hilary is beautiful. A couple days ago I asked if you were ready to have her not knowing you already did!! Thanks for sharing your birth story. I had an OB appt yesterday. Good news is that my dr couldn't tell whether baby was head down or not, but thinks she may be! I'll have an u/s a week from Monday - if she's head down, yay! If she's not, I'll have the external version a week from today and if that doesn't work, a c-section on Nov. 3 (one week before my due date).
Despite BH contractions all week last week (including some that kept me up at night), my cervix was so high and closed she had difficulty finding it.
Although I'm happy that baby may have turned, that information along with the disappearing, non-dilating cervix made me realize I most likely will not be having this baby on Nov. 3 (tentative c-section date). I think I'll be lucky if she's not late - but she could be late, too! I've spent my whole pregnancy wanting more time, but now I want her to come out. Not this week, but anytime after next week would be fine. :)
I just got back from my most recent NST and everything still looks good. During the u/s the tech mentioned that not only is this little guy still head-down but now he's even lower down in my pelvis than he was last week. No idea what that means as far as progession, but it sounds to me like he's getting into an escape position. :p :D My ob confirmed on Friday that he is indeed head-down, I'm wondering if he's gonna stay that way or if it's possible that he'll move positions (which I hope he doesn't).
Sinclair~ Beautiful belly shots! I really like the last one, it's so unique-looking!! :D
Mimieliza~ Yay for the baby possibly being head-down!! Here's hoping that the u/s reveals such. :)
katnbug ~ She is beautiful. Congrats again.
Sinclair ~ You are glowing in those pro pics. I wish I would've done them.
mimieliza ~ Yay on your DD being possibly head down.
Rancid ~ I am glad that everything looks good. And wooo hoooo's to you too for your DS being head down.
I know I missed some posts and I apologize. I wound up going to L&D to check and see if my water broke and get monitored. Obviously my water didn't break since I am home but I am having contractions about every 3-4 minutes. They aren't bad and I can still talk through them so I guess I will hang out and see if they get any worse. I have my bag almost packed I just need to get some stuff around for the kids to go to MIL's.
I will be around CC all evening while I wait and see if this is the real thing. I don't think it is but the contractions are really annoying.
kadee- I hope this is it for you!! How exciting. :)
sinclair- Great pictures!! I would have liked to have some done, but I felt so awful about how I looked towards the end I wouldn't even consider it.
mimieliza- I hope baby has indeed turned!
Thanks rubbersoul. Funny you asked if I was ready... I guess I had no choice!! ;)
Thanks mimieliza & lilo. :)
ellidew- It sounds like you're ready to go!! DS will be here before you know it!
sinclair - I cross-posted with you - your pictures are beautiful! I had thought about doing professional shots, but I don't know anyone in my area who does them. DH and I eventually decided to save the money to do really nice family pictures once the baby is here. Maybe I'll ask DH to take some artsy pictures at home with our new camera.
kadee - Wow! 3-4 minutes apart and they sent you home? Good luck tonight whether they slow down or pick back up!
Gotta be quick... DH is almost done with DD's bath.
Sinclair ~ Absolutely beautiful pictures! You'll treasure those forever.
Kadee ~ I'm sorry for the false scare (if you did want to be next that is). I've been having contractions for a chunk of time almost everyday for 2-3 weeks. :rolleyes: They mostly happen for a few hours in the afternoon and it sucks b/c I know they aren't doing anything. It's frustrating, isn't it?
QOTD ~ Is anyone else sad that their pregnancy is coming to an end? I seroiusly want Devin to stay put until his due date or possibly one week later. I couldn't wait for DD to arrive, but this time I almost don't want it to end. Maybe b/c it's our last....
Okay, I'm being called to rinse hair!!
A belated Congratulations, katnbug and Welcome, Hilary!!!
She's just beautiful!
roberta - Wesley is so cute! I love the yawning pic.
sinclair - Very nice pro shots. It was a great idea to use the shoes!
kadee - Hmmm...famous last words! I know you'd rather he wait a little longer, but if DS is indeed on his way right now, good luck!!
rancid - Good to hear that DS is head-down and not stressed.
mimieliza - Sending you come-out-next-week vibes!
catgirl - I really like your birth plan. Thanks for sharing it. I would like DD to be at least on time, if not a little late, not necessarily because I'm loving being PG so much, but it would just work out better for our schedules (plus, I'd rather she be a Sagittarius than a Scorpio).
My SIL took some maternity shots of me this weekend. I think she did a lovely job. She's considering making a career out of it. These are all 35w2d:
Well it is official! I will definitely be having an October baby one way or another. If I do not go into labor on my own over the next few days, I will be induced on Monday afternoon. My severe back pain is probably the number one reason. I can barely function anymore and need constant help with DD.
I'll be keeping up with this thread though...good luck to you all!
sinclair: those are great pics. Very cute! I like the one with the baby shoes on your tummy.
bijouparvin: love the b/w pics. Your SIL is really talented.
QOTD ~ Is anyone else sad that their pregnancy is coming to an end?: NO!!!! Haha. I don't mean to sound ungrateful for having a relatively complicated-free pregnancy but I really haven't enjoyed being pregnant and everything that comes along with it. Especially since my diet is really restricted right now. I cannot wait to meet this little one and get my body back and wear normal clothing again. Heck, I can't wait to sleep on my stomach again (even if it's only in 45 minute intervals)!
Question for ROs: If I need to supplement bfing with formula (especially in the beginning if my supply is low), which formula do you recommend? Not so much as in cost but just what has worked well for you. I know there are a few different brands out there. TIA! :)
Lydia- Good luck with everything! I’ll be thinking about you and can’t wait to hear how it goes!
Bijouparvin- Great belly shots… you look wonderful!!
Catgirl- I can totally see being attached to pg if it’s your last. I hope the sadness goes away once you have your dc in your arms!
Kadee- Hope you got things done around the house! I think I experienced my first contractions (bh) last night. I’m so stupid I don’t even know!!
Katnbug- Here’s hopin’ he arrives soon but I’ve resigned myself to waiting. I hope you and Hilary are doing well! Hopefully her labs are better today. Hilary does have a perfectly shaped head.
Rancid- I love getting your NST updates and knowing all is well. Sounds like your dh is about ready to make his grand entrance! My ob said that the likeliness of the baby moving from the head down position is low. It does happen but not in most cases. I wouldn’t worry.
but it sounds to me like he's getting into an escape position.
I keep telling mine to ‘HEAD FOR THE EXIT!!’ lol.
Mimieliza- YAY for head down! I hope she is and can’t wait to hear after your u/s on Monday. Otherwise it’s good you have a plan. I’m sorry your cervix isn’t cooperating much but if baby girl just turned head down she should start to help the cervix lower and soften. Nothing like a little head butting on your cervix to get things going ;) I hear ya about wanting dc OUT! Soon enough I suppose. I’ve decided you can’t just will it to happen. I’ve been trying. Lol.
Sinclair- Great belly shots. You look radiant. I like the one of you and dh the best. Your whole little family in that one little picture :)
Thanks lilo! Labor vibes are wonderful! My luck is my ds will be late too so you’re not alone in that regard. I hope the next 2 weeks fly by for you and you get a healthy little baby soon after!
QOTD: Sad about pg ending – Nope, not one little bit… but, it’s our first so we’re anxious to meet our ds and find out what being parents is all about.
Hi ladies...just wanted to do a general shout-out. It's exciting to see the babies coming!! I can't believe it is our turn already!
I'm TIRED. That's pretty much my biggest complaint....followed by swelling, back hurting and heart burn. Even given all of that, a part of me is a little sad to see the pregnancy ending. I don't know why...I'm more than ready to be DONE and finally meet this little one!!
supplementing with formula You can use any standard formula (similac, enfamil, etc) especially if you have no sensitivities or family history of sensitivities. Initially since my doctor had eczema, she was on hypoallergenic formulas (nutramigen or alimentum) which are twice the price of everything else. But we soon put her on the Target brand formula when she was a few months old when she really didn't have milk allergies of any kind.
QOTD A little sad since this will also be my last, but I have been so uncomfortable and in pain that I am looking forward to delivery.
bijou--awesome shots--you look so happy! Aren't you glad you did them?
Lydia-An Oct baby--I'm so jealous! Can't wait to hear how your little one decides to come!
update-I had my doc appt this morning, she was running late (as usual) so I met with a NP. She said I'm still a fingertip dilated and 50% effaced. I was a little discouraged that nothing had changed in the last week, but I guess I just need to enjoy the last few days/weeks of this pregnancy. I have another appt next Thursday.
Is anyone else sad that their pregnancy is coming to an end? A little bit. While I’ll be glad to be rid of all this extra weight and aches/pains of pregnancy, I’ll be a little sad not to be able to lay in bed at night with my hands on my belly, feeling my little guy bouncing around in there, knowing that he’s safe & sound. But on the upside I’ll have a little baby to care for and look at and love, and I’ll get to drink my margaritas again (and be able to fit into non-maternity clothes eventually too). I’ll be happy to be rid of these elastic-waisted jeans, that’s for sure! And I’m getting tired of not being able to bend down to put on my socks, shoes, and pick things up that I seem to be constantly dropping.:D
Bijouparvin~ Beautiful belly shots! Your SIL really did a fantastic job! You look great! I love that last picture, you look so happy and like you’re having so much fun!:D
Lydia~ Oh, wow another October baby! I’m so sorry to hear about the severe back pain. Just a few more days max to put up with it though!! You’ll be in my thoughts!:)
Rancid- I love getting your NST updates and knowing all is well. Sounds like your dh is about ready to make his grand entrance! My ob said that the likeliness of the baby moving from the head down position is low. It does happen but not in most cases. I wouldn’t worry.
Well that’s good to hear (about the likelihood of the baby staying in that position). I said to DH last night “I wonder what it must be like, hanging out upside down in there? I wonder if he ever gets dizzy? I can picture him doing headspins (like they do in breakdancing)”? We had a good laugh trying to picture him in there. I’m sending some “head for the exit” vibes your way, LOL!:D
Sinclair~ I love your new avatar!! That’s too bad that nothing’s changed since your last appt, here’s hoping some progression is made by tomorrow’s appt.:)
sinclair and bijou What beautiful pictures! You both are glowing and gorgeous!!
kadee You still out there? Did those contrax totally peter out on you?
Lydia So excited for you! Wow - a baby by Monday!!
QOTD Slightly sad about the pregnancy ending, but I'm getting REALLY antsy to meet my little girl. I've been caring for her for so long and feeling her moving around for so long - I just want to meet this kid!
Had my weekly OB appt this morning. All looks good - BP, weight, etc. She did my internal and said I was at 1cm! Cervix is still thick, but it is starting to soften. Basically, she said I'm right where I should be for 37.5 weeks, so she expects me to go right around my due date. Fine with me! I'm just so happy that I made some progress as compared to last week when there was NOTHING going on down there!
bijou- Great pictures! I'd hire your sister in a heartbeat! :)
kadee- I hope everything went well last night. A little extra time may be good so you can get things done. Things can change in an instant... I can attest to that!
sinclair- Hang in there!
lydia- I'm so glad that relief is in sight for you. It sounds like you're in awful pain. I had such a hard time taking care of DS in the last weeks, I can't imagine having your back issues on top of everything else. Can't wait to hear of your October baby's arrival!!
lisainpink- Thanks!
QOTD - sad pregnancy is ending/ended- Not the pregnancy part, no. The one thing I will miss because I will not experience it again is the feeling you have in the hospital immediately after baby is born... seeing her/him for the first time... the excitement and awe of this little new life. It makes me sad that I won't experience that.
supplementing w/formula- We're just using the Similac Advance formula that we got as a free sample from the dr. I'd say start with a "standard" formula... if issues arise your ped. will probably have you try a variety of different specialty formulas. Some of those tend to get expensive though, so don't go there if you don't have to. :)
****************************************
If you can't already tell, I'm getting tons of time to hang out on the computer! DD has been a big sleeper - probably due to the jaundice - but it's made the transition a little easier. She's actually been a little more alert last night and this morning. I think the jaundice is on it's way out. DH took her to the lab this morning again so we'll see.
The pediatrician is having us offer DD a bottle of formula after I BF her. A few times she took the whole bottle (2oz :eek: ) but lately she's only taking a 1/2oz or so. I think she's getting full on breast milk! I've also pumped a few times to see exactly what I'm producing & I'm already getting more than I got with DS. And it's nice that DH is getting to feed her once in a while. Luckily DD is doing ok going back and forth from bottle to breast.
DS is doing GREAT with his sister. He calls her "my baby" and insists on holding her. This morning he held her in the boppy (with mom's help) and helped to feed her the bottle. He's also bringing her "gifts" like his toys. It's very cute. I hope it continues!! Last night he asked her to play basketball with him! We didn't think that was such a great idea though. ;)
DH is also being great! He's helping me out so much I almost feel bad. I know, I need to just accept it, but I feel bossy asking him to get this and do that!! He went grocery shopping yesterday - something I know he doesn't like doing. :)
We're also making dinner for a friend who had her baby a few weeks ago. For the past few years a group of us always make dinners for eachother when a new baby is born. Our friend had her daughter a few weeks ago and we had signed up to make dinner for them tonight - not knowing that our own DD would already be here. They asked if I wanted to postpone, but I figured we could do a crock-pot dinner or something easy for them.. we're making them Italian Beef (DH has actually done it all so far). And we'll deliver it this evening. My sister said the sign up list is already going around for me!! It will be nice getting homemade dinners a few times a week without doing the work!!!
Quick post for myself and I will be back with SO's later....
I had my appointment this morning and am 1cm/75% effaced and when the dr noted the effaced part, she said that there was almost no way I was going to make it to my due date (especially considering how early I went before) and thought it might be two more weeks at the latest. Fortunately, we don't have much more to get done since my bag and DD's bags are already in the car, we've made arrangments for DD and the snugride is already installed (and getting weird looks from DD as she sits in her carseat).
QOTD I'm not overly sad to have this pregnancy come to an end but mainly because I've been pretty miserable the last few weeks. Her head is so far down and pressing on my cervix that it's really uncomfortable most of the day (and night as I constantly feel like I have to go to the bathroom). Hauling myself up off the floor after playing with DD or changing her diaper is an exhausting procedure that I try to avoid and I'm just crabby all the time. Being woken by a newborn and dealing with a toddler will be tough, but at least I won't have to worry so much about my own physical discomfort in the process. Mainly, I'm just really excited to meet her and see what kind of labor I'll have this time.
Off to nap as I got roughly two hours of sleep last night. Has anyone heard from mermecau at all over the last few weeks? Lydia I know you've talk to her IRL in the past but didn't know if you were still in touch (especially considering what you're dealing with right now with the back pain and DD).
QOTD- I think I will miss being pregnant when baby makes his debut. I really do love knowing that he is safe and sound in there and I still like feeling his movements. I have started to get uncomfortable though and am feeling a little more relaxed about L&D again. I would like him to stay put for at least 3 more weeks. I reserve the right to change my mind about that though :).
Update- I had my 36w appt. today. I am measuring at 34cm, but the Dr. said she is not concerned about it. I also lost some weight, but she said that is okay near the end. Baby is head down and she guessed he was probably approaching 6 pounds. I think he is going to be a little guy, at least I hope I don't have an 8lb baby! I had my GBS test today. She didn't check anything else, so I don't know if there is any progress or anything.
Lydia- I can't wait to hear your birth story (if you want to share, that is). I hope all goes well!
brio- I was wondering about mermccau too a while back. I hope she is ok.
sinclair and bijouparvin- Your pictures are beautiful!
Gotta run...sorry I didn't get to everyone! I hope everyone is doing okay!
Thanks Franni. I actually am lactose intolerant so I'm wondering if that will make a difference in the type of formula I should buy. I drink Lactaid free milk since soy milk seems to be too gassy for me. Should I ask for recommendations from the pediatrician based on my sensitivities?
holding sleeping toddler - no caps. unfortunately i know a lot about baby/toddler allergies from exp w/ dd. most newborns/infants are not lactose intolerant. if they do have a reaction to milk, it's usually from the milk protein and all dairy s/b avoided - same is true for bf'ing moms b/c dairy protein passes into breastmilk. dairy protein allergies usually are outgrown by 2 (not true in dd's case :( .) dd also had a problem digesting iron additives in formula when we had to supplement. if you are bf'ing at all, i'd avoid iron enriched formula (will say on bottle). babies get enough iron from mom. also, while allergies run in families, your children usually aren't allergic to the same thing as mom and dad. if you need to switch what you drink, i'd recommend rice milk - easier on tummy and not as controversial as soy. oh, and newborns usually don't show signs of milk protein intolernce until 4-8 weeks old. marisa in the bf'ing support thread also has a lot of info on infant intolerances/allergies. feel free to pm me w/ questions - i've been through the ringer w/ this stuff w/ dd.
Catgirl ~ I'm sorry for the false scare (if you did want to be next that is). I've been having contractions for a chunk of time almost everyday for 2-3 weeks. They mostly happen for a few hours in the afternoon and it sucks b/c I know they aren't doing anything. It's frustrating, isn't it? Yes it is. I have been having strong BH contractions for awhile now but it seems that the past week or so they have gotten a lot stronger. I actually watched the monitor go from a base of 16-18 all the way to 60-70 more than a few times yesterday. I am actually having them again now but I know they aren’t the real thing. :rolleyes:
Bijouparvin ~ Your SIL is very talented. I love that last shot.
Lydia ~ I’m sorry you are in such pain. I can’t wait to hear what happens.
Ellidew ~ I did get some more done around here. Not as much as I would’ve liked but DH is going to help get the last of it done this weekend.
Katnbug ~ How is DD’s jaundice?? Have you gotten results back yet from today’s test?? Your DS is too cute sharing his toys. I really hope that my DS reacts the same way.
QOTD ~ I am definitely sad that this is coming to an end. I keep thinking this is the last time I will feel hiccups and movement and everything else. As much as I am ready to have this baby, there is a part of me that never wants it to end.
I can’t believe all the progress we are making with dilation and effacement. It still seems to me that I just started our group. I can’t believe how far we have come.
Hi ladies -
Quick update here. I had a bit of a scare yesterday - we had a health fair at work yesterday and my BP was pretty high for me...I called my doctor, had it retaken (still high!) and wound up at the hospital in L&D!
The good news is my BP got progressively better as time passed at the hospital. They did a NST and took some bloodwork and everything looked okay. I'm home today...I have to give my doctor a call when the office opens to follow up with them. It was scary. So today I'm hanging out at home...there are a million things I want to do (nesting!) but DH gave me strict orders to veg on the couch and work on some schoolwork. ;)
Hope everyone is feeling well!
kadee ~ I hear ya'. They are so annoying and really, how can they not be doing anything?? When I had an NST the other day, I had zero contrax and the time before I had them every 5 minutes. Still one fingertip. :rolleyes: I'm not ready for the baby, but if I'm going to have contrax I'd like them to at least be productive or have none at all.
BethIrish ~ Sorry about your scare! That would have freaked me out. I'm glad everything is okay.
Off to McD's... another thing I swore DD wouldn't have until she was 5. Good rule of thumb - never say you won't do XYZ (fast food, TV, etc.) b/c you'll probably end up doing it and then feeling like a fool. :p :)
Have a great day! Hoping there's another baby soon!
ETA: lilo ~ I'm glad the info was helpful. I found out the really hard way about allergies/intolerances with DD - not until she was almost 4 mos old!
BethIrish ~ I am glad that everything is ok.
catgirl ~ Isn't the McD's drive through the best thing?? ;) DS1 loves their pancakes. And I am more than happy to pay $2 for them instead of having to actually make them myself.
Good rule of thumb - never say you won't do XYZ (fast food, TV, etc.) b/c you'll probably end up doing it and then feeling like a fool. Yeah. And there are certain people who will be the first to point out to you that you said you wouldn't do whatever.
ITA agree about having the contax. If they are going to be like this they better be doing something. I get to the point where I have to stop and breathe which in turn has DH questioning if its time to go which drives me nuts. Then again just about everything is driving me nuts lately.
BethIrish - Hope you have a good, restful day at home today with no more scares!
Is anyone else sad that their pregnancy is coming to an end? - I think I will miss it, but still have 5 1/2 weeks left, so I don't really feel like I'm coming towards the end just yet.
Sinclair & Bijouparvin - Great pregnancy shots!! You both look fabulous!
Sorry I can't do more shout outs right now. Work is so busy and I've been so tired that I feel like a slacker all the time. So I'm trying to be a little better about it, there's so much I have to wrap up so I won't worry while I'm out.
We've been putting together some of the baby stuff. So far we have the SnugRide, the snap and go frame for it, and our P3 all set to go! We'll probably work on installing the bases and getting those checked out over the next week or two.
I can't believe everyone is making so much progress already! I have an appointment on Tuesday. Does anyone know when they start doing internals? I've also heard some doctors never do them. Just wondering.
The numbers from DD's labs yesterday were down, which is good. She didn't have to go today, but will go tomorrow for yet another follow up. She is visibly more alert and active so I think the jaundice is on it's way out of town!! Thanks for asking.
bethirish- I'm glad your bp worked it's way back down. It's scary, isn't it? Listen to DH.. resting is definitely what you need right now! Hopefully you can keep the bp under control a little while longer.
catgirl- AMEN to the McDonalds, TV etc. comment. My BIL and I made a pact that neither of our DC would have McD until they were older. That didn't last too long. DS loves their chicken nuggets. And their pancakes are his favorite too!!
DH took DS off to PDO. :( I'm sad. Hoping today it's better for him. I think he's now getting it when I tell him that he's going to school. He started whimpering this morning and wouldn't get out of bed. I'm glad my DH took him and not me.. I don't think I could handle it emotionally right now!! My hormones are still a bit out of whack!
DD decided to play with her mommy last night. I changed her before putting her to bed and she woke up - as she usually does when I strip her down! She proceeded to poop in the middle of my changing her. I cleaned her up & then she pooped again, and again, and again. It was like she waited in between so I thought she was done, I would clean her butt -and then Whammy - another poop, and another poop. Two of them happened on her changing pad cover, about 3 made it into the diaper. So I finally get her wiped off and she peed all over herself. :rolleyes: Girls pee goes surprisingly far. So I had to change her sleeper which made her mad and she cried for a while. I just had to laugh at it all.
Can I ask a really stupid question? :o
I know that the doc always tells me that I might have a little bleeding after having an internal. Fine. So I had an internal yesterday morning and like 24 hours later (just this AM) noticed a little bit of bleeding. Can I attribute this to the internal? For some reason I guess I had assumed any bleeding would have happened yesterday......
Lilla- I think that’s normal. I had a little bleeding the day after one of my internals. If it’s enough to make you worry I’d call your doctor. Mine was only a couple of drops… I also lost more the the mucus plug the day after my internal.
Katnbug- YAY for better #’s! What a story you told… things to look forward to, huh? Lol. I probably would’ve laughed too. At least she did it on the changing table and not in a new diaper after each change!
Mayham- good luck getting things wrapped up. I did that last week and it’s a relief to have it done. Sounds like you are getting pretty well ready for the arrival of your little girl. My first internal was at 35 weeks because I lost the mucus plug so they did a pelvic exam. Otherwise the first internal exam would’ve been at 36 weeks. I had one at that appointment too… I wonder if I’ll have one every week.
Kadee- I was wondering if I was having contractions the other night and they would make me stop and have to breathe just like you said so maybe they were contractions and it wasn’t all in my head! I can’t believe it’s already time for babies to arrive either but at the same time I’m thinking ‘man, these next 2-3 weeks are just going to drag!’ I’m sure once it’s all said and done it will feel like it went by in a flash!
Catgirl- That’s funny about mcd’s. I’m sure we’ll give into fast food and tv too. I have expectations but at the same time I am realistic ;)
BathIrish- I’m glad you are all right! Definitely take it easy and enjoy your time relaxing before the baby arrives.
Rubbersoul- Sounds like you had a good appt! I wonder how accurate these doctors are at determining size. They say yours is going to be small and my doctors say mine is going to be big. Who the heck knows, right? It will be interesting to see when they arrive! I’ve been measuring right on. I was 36cm at 36wks but the doctor said she still thought he was a big baby! Who knows… I wouldn’t mind an 8 lbs baby though.
Brio- Definitely making progress! 75% effaced is incredible! I’m with your doctor and I don’t think you’ll make it to your due date. You are so prepared with your bags packed and in the car… I said I’d finish packing the other day and STILL haven’t! Though I’m convinced this baby will be 2 weeks late so I have time. Lol. It’s funny that your dd is curious about the new carseat in the car!!
My update: Tomorrow is my 38 week appt. I hope to find out I’ve continued to dilate and efface but I’m not holding my breath. 2 of my 3 nieces were induced so I don’t have high hopes at going early even though I’d really really like to! I’m ready to get this show on the road! I still need to finish packing my hospital bag and get things in order. I’m going to try to do something tonight and again tomorrow but I’m working a 10 hour day today so by the time I get home I might just be pooped out! I only work until 12:30 tomorrow so hopefully I can finish things up. I want to be ready to walk out the door if something happens!
I hope everyone else is doing well. Take care!
WOW! Congratulations Nic!!!! Welcome to the world Christian!!!
Exciting news mermccau about Lydia!!! Thanks for sharing.
My playgroup surprised me with a shower today. :) It was a lovely treat. They were all very generous and I am kinda freaking out that baby is not going to be a girl. :eek: We were given the most adorable clothing ((all pink) but have yet to have 100% confirmation that baby is in fact a girl. They also got DD a lot of cool toys to distract her when mommy is busy with baby. ;) A great idea for any ROs!!! Now I need to unpack the car and put baby's gifts away. Not having a nursery for the baby SUX! Since we are moving in the spring and only live in a 2 bedroom right now, we have a crib for baby and that is it! Yikes! I forgot how much stuff comes with having a little, tiny addition to the family.
Thanks for the update mermccau!
PS. I can't wait to post that i'm in labor! It's so exciting! I get goose bumps! lol. I'm such a dork, i know.
neenbean- What a lovely surprise from your playgroup. Hopefully you are able to use those adorable pink outfits your received! Have fun playing with all the new stuff!
Lilla~ Yay for everything being right-on at your appt! That’s always wonderful news to hear, and so reassuring. And yay for progress “down there”!!;)
Katnbug~ I’m so happy to hear that you’re doing so well (and able to find time to play around on the computer while Hilary sleeps). That’s fantastic that DS is being so great with his baby sister, awww! He’s gonna be a wonderful big brother! Don’t feel bad about making DH help you out around the house, you totally deserve it (and more) for what you’ve been through recently. You’ve earned it, girl! And that’s awesome about your friends/family putting together a home-cooked meal thing for you to help out too. I’m LOLing re: the pooping/peeing game with DD. Oh the fun things to look forward to!:eek:
Kadee~ Aw, I thought for sure that was gonna be it for you. Ah, well. Soon enough I guess, LOL. Sorry to hear about the resulting sore tummy.
Rubbersoul~ Glad to hear that things are looking good on your end! I’m hoping I don’t have an 8+lb baby too…my siblings and I were all in the 7lb range (and DH was a 6-lber) so here’s hoping that my baby is right around there too!
BethIrish~ Sorry to hear about the bp scare! I’m glad you got checked out so quickly and it was determined that nothing was wrong. Maybe you were having a stressful day??:confused: Hope you were able to get some rest!
Mayham~ Glad to hear you’re getting things all set up! I put together our P3 last week, I was amazed at how easy it was to get it all put together. I also love how easy it is to fold up and unfold one-handed. I’m also wondering when the docs start doing internals, I haven’t had one since my first pg-related ob appt. I’m wondering if she’s going to start on them at my appt next week, she hasn’t mentioned anything yet.
Nic~ CONGRATULATIONS!! Welcome to the world, Christian! I’m happy to hear that you’re both doing well, can’t wait to hear more!!
Ellidew~ I’m keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow’s appt will reveal some progression for you!!:)
Mermccau~ Glad you checked in, we were wondering how you were doing. Can’t wait to hear details. Wow, I can’t believe Lydia’s in labor too! That will make Nov baby #4, whoa!!:eek:
Neenbean~ How neat that your playgroup threw you a shower, that’s so sweet of them!!
Well, DH has done it. He's finished painting the nursery! He put the final coats of paint on last night and I believe got the trim painted as well. I took a peek at it this morning before I left for work, and he even got the crib unpacked and assembled, brought up the toy chest and glider & ottoman and set them up. The colors are looking really good together, I must say! I'm horrible at coming to decisions on paint colors, so that's good news.
The top part of the wall is a green-yellow, the bottom part a blue (painted w/waves), the furniture is black, and the glider/ottoman sage green. I'll take a picture this afternoon when I get home. I need to recruit my bro and one of his demolition buddies to bring up the (very heavy) dressers and get them in there sometime this week.
Oh yeah, and after our 3/5 childbirth class last night, I'm seriously considering asking my doc at my next appt about scheduling a c-section. The live birth footage (not to mention all the ones of women in labor) have me completely and utterly terrified.
Eh, don't jump the gun too fast... the video of the c-section is worse!! Personally, i'm praying for a vaginal delivery ;)
Congrats, nic! Welcome, Christian Douglas!:)
Good luck, Lydia! Thinking of you...
...
I'm so behind, as usual. :p This is my last week at work so I've been super busy training other employees with my duties and all of that fun stuff. Plus, we had our final walk through on our house on Monday and we've been busy trying to get that all straightened out. If all goes well, we close next Monday. I can't wait!
...
My update: I am officially full term at over 37 weeks. Baby girl can make her entrance any day now. [although, I don't mind her waiting another week or so..] I had my 37 week appointment on Monday and everything went well. NST was good and the GBS test wasn't as bad as I thought, but still rather unpleasant. I'm so glad to have that out of the way.
I am now on a weekly schedule with the OB. My next appointment is Oct. 24th with another NST. I haven't had any internals done yet, but I'm assuming they'll do it at my next appointment at 38 weeks? :confused:
...
Sad of pregnancy ending? In a way, I am. I mean, the whole experience has been like no other I have ever had [with this being my 1st and all...]. Sure, it has it's cons and there are many days when I just cannot wait to have my regular body back - but I know once she is born, I will miss being pregnant. I guess it's that whole bond thing I have with her. You know? I'm selfish in that aspect, I guess. ;)
Anyway, I gotta get back to work, but I just wanted to let you all know that I'm thinking of you all, and hoping for nothing but the best. :)
Congrats to katnbug & nic - Welcome Hilary and Christian!!!!
Somehow this process of babies starting to arrive in a thread reminds me of microwave popcorn.........pop!.........pop, pop!....next thing you know we'll be popping all over the place! And then there will be that last lonely pop!, sometime in December.. ;) Then we can all add butter and enjoy.. :rolleyes: Sorry. I have strange thoughts. On that same token, when DD was tiny, I always thought that was what she smelled like. Hot buttered popcorn. Told you I was strange.
I had a dr visit yesterday, mine started w/ the internals. Yuk. And nothing to report at any rate. She was concerned because my belly measures 32 weeks, but I'm actually 35 weeks. This happened w/ DD, too. She did a sonogram, and Katie just has her body jammed up against my guts, and her feet are the only thing really sticking out towards the front. (They are jammed up in my ribs, just underneath my chest) So it throws the belly measurement off. The dr. measured all of Katie's body parts and they seem to be up-to-date, so I'm not too concerned. Had the GBS test and got my marching orders to go AGAIN to have blood drawn Sat. My state requires a second HIV test (I guess they're worried I've been prostituting myself again..) at 35 weeks.
But seriously, I will love being done w/ pregnancy so that they will just stop sticking me every five minutes!! The 3-hr GTT really just put me over the edge about the taking blood thing.
But I was able to get some shopping done after the appt and picking up Susannah from daycare. Found a glider that I really like at a decent price at BRU and they say it will be ready in 4 days for pickup. Yay!! I didn't have a glider last time and I really wanted one this time. And I got a big sister shirt for Susie, clothes and extra swaddling blankies for Katie, and matching Santa Claus shirts for them for December. I'm actually really starting to get excited about having another little one at home.
Last night I was going through Susie's bedtime routine - pj's, books, milk, and turning off the lights and singing. It all takes place on my bed now because it's easier for me and my center of gravity. So we're doing the lullabies w/ the lights off, and Susie rests her head up against my tummy.. (I was lying on my side) It was SOOOO sweet. She usually prefers to be on her belly, w/ her head on the pillow - this time she's sitting almost upright, draped over on my belly holding on to her sippy cup and her bear. And I swear she stuck the spout into my belly button a couple of times. (She's very big on feeding everybody - us, her bear, the cats, you name it - I guess she decided Katie deserved a little treat, too..)
Thanks for the PSA, Kat. I don't have it all actually packed yet, but it is all in the same place, at least.
For some reason, the c/s footage looked a lot less worse to me than the vaginal birth footage did…despite the whole being-cut-open thing. :eek: I still have time to weigh my options, ask my doc, and do some research on pros/cons of both so my mind is still open to either (but open moreso to c/s, LOL).:)
Euphoria~ Congrats on being full-term!:D
LizzieBeth~ That’s too funny about the popcorn!:D Glad to hear that Kate’s measurements are looking good! That can’t be comfortable, having her jammed up in your guts, ouch!:eek:
Congratulations Nic and Welcome Christian!! We really are having a lot of November babies in October.
Lydia Hope your delivery goes well and we're looking forward to hearing all about it. It has to be a relief knowing that back pain is coming to an end and that you'll meet Mason pretty soon.
meredith good thing you checked in...we were getting worried about you.
LizzieBeth you crack me up with your popcorn reference. At the rate we're going on this thread though, that last lonely pop will come mid-November. :D
Nothing new with me today. DH and I finally got our game plan together for what he's supposed to do with DD while I'm in the hospital (after the L&D when he'll be with me). It's amazing how little he knows about our day to day activities (mainly just the details of what kinds of things are good for toddlers that are open during the week) so it will be interesting to see how they pass the time. He was getting kind of nervous trying to work out what we're going to do when it's time to head to the hospital as well (in terms of where DD is going based on the time of day) but I think he feels a little better now.
Last night I was so tired that I didn't get up off the couch and was pretty much giving directives like "it's time for her to eat" and "there are green beans in the fridge for her" without moving a muscle. Seriously if the house was on fire last night, I don't think I could have gotten up to save myself that's how tired I was. I'm pretty much giving up on sleep these days since I cannot get comfortable in our bed anymore, the couch is hit or miss and DH is already sleeping in the guest room. Not to mention the incessant need to pee with her sitting on my cervix and putting all that pressure on.
I've definitely been feeling more contractions today but nothing regular or consistant. I've got to stop thinking that she's coming any day since I probably have two weeks to go but it's fun to think about not being pregnant anymore. I looked in the mirror today and for the first time thought that I looked as big as I feel. Ugh.
c-section the actual procedure may look easier than a vaginal birth but the recovery is a PITA. Granted, I'm speaking as one that has only had a c-section with a less than wonderful recovery period so I might change my tune after hopefully having my VBAC with #2. From what I remember though, those videos are showing labor without the assistance of any drugs or relaxation techniques (for those brave enough to have an unmedicated birth) so if you're planning on using drugs it will likely be different. That whole transition phase of labor that they talk about as being the worst part of it might not be so bad if you're "doped up". ;)
Wow... I was gone for just a few hours and now Lydia is in labor?! Speedy L&D vibes to you! Can't wait to hear about the new arrival.
kadee & Kat ~ I wish DD could eat McD's pancakes. She's a sausage & hash brown girl (allergic to dairy ATM). Funny how having a child changes your pre-conceived notions, huh? :rolleyes:
Kat ~ So glad DS had a better day at PDO! Yeah, little girls sure can shoot the pee, can't they? That surprised me, too. Cute story. That's great that she's pooping so much!
Lilla ~ I had an internal late in my pregnancy with DD and had bleeding, actually quite a bit of spotting (needed a pantiliner) a little more than 24 hours after the actual exam. You would think that it'd be sooner. I think if it's more than 48 hours then it could be something else, but anything from exam time to 48 hours sounds normal to me.
ellidew ~ You do know that b/c now you've planned to pack your bag tomorrow afternoon, you will go into labor tonight. ;) Good luck at your appt tomorrow. Can't wait to hear the progress (funny that things like that are exciting). :p
neenbean ~ That's so nice about the surprise baby shower! What a great idea to also get toys for your DD.
Rancid ~ So cool about the nursery! Can't wait to see the pics, esp of the waves. FWIW, I think the videos of birth make it seem a lot worse than it is. When it's happening to you, it doesn't seem as bad as they make it look in the video (and I had an unmedicated induced L&D).
Kyrsten ~ I'm glad you have an end date in sight. I know how miserable you've been feeling.
euphorhea ~ Yay for being full term!! I didn't care for the GBS test either. When I read what they swab and then they did it... just gave me the heebie jeebies.
Lizzie Beth ~ That's so sweet about your DD laying on your belly. That's a nice memory to have and share with her when she's older.
brio96 ~ Yeah, it's funny how little DH's know about the day to day, isn't it? I wonder if they could really handle it like we do.
Not a whole lot new here. My sciatica or pelvic girdle pain or whatever it's called is acting up big time this afternoon, and DD decided to boycott her nap this afternoon. I tired for an hour and 10 minutes before giving up. She's been so good about it the last few days or so. Oh well... looks like it'll be a 7:00 bedtime for both of us. :)
You do know that b/c now you've planned to pack your bag tomorrow afternoon, you will go into labor tonight.
Hope so! :D I'm not that lucky though. lol. Dh and mil are really hoping for a November baby and it's not far off so i'm just settling in for the long haul. I'm with you. I LOVE reading everyones progress. How we all feel, doctors appts, etc... It's so much more fun to have all of you to share all the details with. Plus, sometimes i need to give dh's ear a break. He's such a wonderful husband but i'm trying to focus less on how i feel and how needy i am and more on how he must be feeling. What a huge change for him! An early night to bed isn't so bad... enjoy it while you can! I hope you feel better, i hate when i get that butt pain!
Sinclair- I get a tiny bit jealous too. I’m just so excited to finally share the news once it happens, ya know?
Katnbug- That’s great that ds had a better day today. He’ll get the hang of it soon.
Brio- Good for you preparing dh for what to expect. Sometimes I feel bad dictating things for dh to do. Sometimes I’ll say ‘will you get…, no nevermind, I’ll get it’ and he’ll say ‘nope, stay put what do you need’. I just feel like I ask him to do so much! I’m proud of you for camping out on the couch for the night and not moving a muscle. I hope you feel relaxed today and can continue to get the help! I need to stop thinking about the baby coming too… I feel like that’s what I do all day long. I got busy at work for a little while this afternoon and didn’t think about it at all for about 2 hours and it was kind of invigorating! Lol. Good luck with your vbac. I’ve heard that a cs recovery is worse than a vaginal recovery too. We actually saw a medicated, unmedicated, and a c-section video in our child birthing class. I’m so not into being cut open!
Rancid- Well, we’re all different. Lol. I was TOTALLY freaked out by the c-section video! Definitely weigh your options and talk to your doctor. Do what you think is right for you and your baby boy. That’s all you can do, right? Good luck!
Lizzie Beth- That’s a cute analogy and you are kind of right. We get those first few pops and then the bag starts really popping then you get those last few at the end. How cool though! I can’t wait until were really into the muck of it! I’m glad your dd is all right. I had a giant butt sticking out today and even thought that if they measured me I’d measure big! He just stuck it right on out there! Sorry you have to have blood drawn again, I hope it’s quick and painless! The vision of Susannah feeding your belly button her sippy cup is absolutely priceless! What a precious memory!
Euphoria- Congrats on being full term. We celebrated that on the same day! Good luck with the house closing and I hope everything goes smoothly.
I thought I'd drop off a few more pictures.
And a few of DD's almost finished room. It's getting there... my friend's mom made the valance and we put it up last Wednesday - just in time for DD's arrival. These are scanned, so not the best quality!
Congrats katnbug! Love the photos. Your nursery looks great.
Congrats nic! Looking forward to your birth story.
And good luck Lydia! I wish you a speedy labor.
Miss being pregnant? - I'd have to say I've enjoyed the experience overall, but the last few weeks have not been pleasant physically. I'm totally ready to not be pregnant anymore. Though I can see how I will look back and miss it a bit once I have some distance.
Tomorrow morning is my 37-week appt. Full term! Anytime now, baby!
CONGRATULATIONS, NIC AND WELCOME, CHRISTIAN!!
I can't believe we're starting to "pop" already! I'm hearing lots of people around me whisper that they don't think I'll make it to my due date, but I really feel like she'll be on time if not late. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. I'm not having any contrax or cramping or spotting or anything that would indicate she's even thinking of emerging. I had my appointment today and she's still head-down but not engaged. I haven't had an internal so I don't know about dilation and effacement. Not sure when I'll have that checked. I guess she'll make herself known when the time comes.
Lydia - Wishing you a safe and peaceful labor. Can't wait to hear about Mason's arrival.
mayham ~ Does anyone know when they start doing internals? I've also heard some doctors never do them. Just wondering. When I asked about one last week the nurse said the dr only does them when a patient is in active labor but because I had been having stronger contractions she went ahead and did one on me. I am sure I won’t get another one anytime soon. Honestly though, I think I’m ok with that because it sucks just to find out that there is no change.
katnbug ~ I am glad that DD’s numbers are down. Hopefully they stay that way and she is all better soon. I love the pics. I think that is the same boppy I have.
ellidew ~ You probably were having some contractions. Scary to think that we are actually having babies soon isn’t it?? I swear I freak out thinking that this baby could come anytime since DD was born at 38w and I hit that tomorrow. :eek: Of course DS1 was born at 40w6d so I could very well go over again too.
neenbean ~ How awesome about the shower. I am with you on the whole thing of not having a nursery. We have a 2 bedroom as well and we have been looking for houses but there just isn’t a lot out there that we like. We hope to be out by spring though.
Rancid ~ How exciting about the nursery being painted and furniture being moved in.
Kyrsten ~ Wow!! Another October baby. I can’t wait to hear the exciting news. Good luck.
Lizzie Beth ~ That has got to be one uncomfortable position for the baby to be in. I don’t think you ever said Katie’s name before. I need to get that put in your stats.
brio ~ It’s amazing what the DH’s have no clue about. Mine is another one who has no idea what we do around here. I think MIL is going to take the kids for at least 3 days when I have the baby so DH doesn't have to worry about them.
Yes, it's almost 3am and I am wide awake. I was pretty sick for most of the evening so I went to bed early and now I am up. I am getting more and more uncomfortable by the day. DH and I are going to work on getting the last of the stuff done in prep for Matthew's arrival this weekend. I have yet to put the car seat in only because I don't know if we are putting it in my car from the beginning or if it will go in DH's car for a little while. We really need to get the ball rolling on a new car as well since we only have sedan's and we now have 3 carseats to contend with. (Gotta love that DD still has be in a booster at almost 9 years old. :rolleyes: ) I have another appt at 11:45 but I don't think anything big will be happening. I can't believe I will be 38w tomorrow. I am so ready to have this baby but on the other hand it freaks me out to think how everyone's lives will change once he is here. Especially DS1. He is such a momma's boy and I hate that my attention will now be focused on the new baby. DD understands what will happen and will probably be a great help to me but I really worry about DS. I just pray that it will all work out somehow.
Jeez....can we all say hormonal?!?!? Yeah, I think I am ready to have this baby. ;)
Ok the thread has been updated.
While I was doing updates I noticed that we are popping out babies every 3 days. Roberta on the 10th, katnbug on the 13th, nic on the 16th and if Lydia had Mason yesterday that was the 19th. So who is shooting for the 22nd??
Not me, but I'm shooting for the 28th (which if my fuzzy math skills are correct would put me second to next). I'll gladly give up the 22nd if I can get through my busy day next Thursday. ;)
Sinclair & Bijou - Awesome belly shots - very pretty!
Katnbug - Hilary is beautiful!
nic - a big congratulations to you and welcome Christian!
My appointment which was scheduled for this past Wednesday got moved to Monday, 10/23 (I'll be 35w). As far as being sad that the pregnancy is coming to an end, even though this is my last one, I say heck no! It has been so much harder this time around with a toddler in tow. I'm hoping to be induced a week before my current EDD but that hasn't been totally decided on yet.
Sorry I don't have more time right now to catch up, but I hope you all have a great weekend!
I'll take the 22nd!! LOL :D Now that the unlikely Cardinals are in the World Series dh has asked that i wait another week though. Before the game last night i only had to wait until after he plays golf one last time this year on Saturday. It's a wonder i didn't have a baby last night watching game 7 of the NLCS. I swear my blood pressure was THROUGH THE ROOF!
FWIW, my sister asked me NOT to have a baby on the 22nd because her dd was born on the 22nd last year and she has dubbed it 'Sonia Day'. I think she was half kidding when she said it though. I told her 'the baby comes when the baby comes and if he arrives on 'Sonia Day' then it will just have to be Sonia and Miles Day!'
I am hoping October 31st. That's a day after my 37th week mark. Yeah...can you tell I am ready?
I am going to regret wishing this though since I have not finished up work and have a million baby related things left to do at home.
Congratulations, Nic.
Went and saw Blue Man Group last night--I wonder what the experience was like for Corbin--he was moving all around during the show!
I got home about 10--DH was at a wine tasting for work and called at 11:30. He said, "Now, I know you don't care, but the CARDINALS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!! This is going to be the best year ever--my son is going to be born and the Cards are in the World Series!!" His excitement was so cute that I didn't mind him waking me up! :p Then when he got home he told me play-by-play what happened the last 3 innings (not being a baseball follower, I just nodded my head like I was following along). Then he crashes and I'm left wide awake at 2 am.
Oh well, at least today is FRIDAY!!!
And--I'm more than happy to go on the 22nd! Our newphew was born 2/22, it would be kinda cool if they were exactly 8 months apart (at least it should be easy for the IL's to remember!) I'm going to do lots of walking this weekend!
RO's-Did anyone have their membranes stripped? Did it help induce labor? Was it painful? I'm considering asking her to do it at my appt next Thursday to see if things will start moving along.
What, no one wants to play my game? :( Let's take guesses at who's next! If we follow kadee's system, we're going to have to start doubling up deliveries. Because I'm a big old dork, I figured it out this way:
10/22 - 1 Baby
10/25 - 1 Baby
10/28 - 1 Baby
10/31 - 1 Baby
11/3 - 2 Babies
11/6 - 3 Babies
11/9 - 3 Babies
11/12 - 3 Babies
11/15 - 3 Babies
11/18 - 3 Babies
11/21 - 3 Babies
11/24 - 3 Babies
11/27 - 3 Babies
11/30 (my birthday!) - 2 Babies
12/3 (Lonely pop day) - 1 Baby
I already voted Sinclair to be next, but I forgot about Kyrsten so I'm going to say:
10/22 Kyrsten
10/25 Sinclair
10/28 kadee
and 10/31 ellidew
I'm not committing to any more guesses until I see who goes next! Geez, I must have too much time on my hands! :rolleyes:
This is going to be the best year ever--my son is going to be born and the Cards are in the World Series!!
Ironically, my dh feels the same way! lol. :)
His friends sent him the following email the other day...
Subject: Pop Quiz Hot Shot
Alright, a plausible scenario for our father to be:
Your at home watching baseball. Its game 7 of the world series and the Cards are down by 1 in the 9th. Duncan is on 2nd base and Pujols steps up to bat. Just then Jenny's water breaks and yells its time to go to the hospital. WHAT DO YOU DO?
Possible answers but not necessarily correct ones:
(a) Pretend you can't hear her until after Pujols bats. Thinking, "Kids are born everyday. The Cards winning the World Series is once in a lifetime."
(b) Run to her side, miss baseball history and become that one guy who didn't see the greatest at bat of all time but name your child Albert to commemorate the event.
-Just some things to consider as the big day gets closer. :)
My response...
Well, that's just absurd... if my water breaks in that scenario we'll BOTH wait for Pujols to bat. Like i'd miss something like that!!
bijouparvin ~ We could have a lot of fun playing "who goes next". I know Kyrsten is going within the next week but who else.....I say Sinclair goes soon too. I think there could be a couple born on 10/31.
ellidew ~ That is too funny. But I have to say being from Michigan I am not exactly rooting for the Cardinals. :p
ellidew
10-20-2006, 09:01 AM
wow, bijouparvin... That's a serious system you came up with! I'll have to think about it but i'd like to relinquish Oct 31st to anyone else who wants it :) Now that I said that it's a safe bet to put me down for the 31st!! FWIW, i have a doctors appt this afternoon so hopefully they will check for progress. I'll be sure to post the results when i get home in case it influences any decisions.
I swear last night this kid was stretching head to toe in my uterus. A few times i thought he was trying to come out through my throat!!
Kyrstens induction is on the 26th, right? That could throw the whole chart off! She'd have to go early on the 25th.
I'm going to put kadee down for our weekend baby on the 22nd.
I'm waiting to reserve judgement on myself but i'm guessing it will be either 11/3, 11/6, or 11/9. I think it will be November though.
Congratulations nic!!!
That's fair. lol. If the Mets had won last night i would've been rooting for Detroit too!
Hey, where is the love for the Mets? ;) My DH is a HUGE Mets fan so he was pretty bummed about by yesterday's loss. Like Sinclair, I don't really follow baseball (although being married to a sports lover, you don't really have a choice) but he would've been on top of the world if the Mets had won the World Series AND his son was born that same year. Too funny. Well, at least he still gets to have his son (and future baseball player I'm sure) this year. ;)
Let's see, I vote for Kadee to go next too. I'm more than happy to deliver on 11/3, which would be exactly 37 weeks for me! :)
QOTD: Does anyone else feel really 'full' sometimes, even if they haven't eaten a lot that day? My stomach feels so heavy today like there is a huge sack of potatoes just sitting in there. I keep thinking to myself, "I can't believe that my stomach may grow even larger in the next 5 weeks"
-------------------------------------
Not much new with me. We celebrated my DH's birthday last night by going out to a great steakhouse in the city. Funny enough, the waitress (who could definitely tell I was pregnant) asked me if I wanted to order a glass of red wine since she's heard that it helps the baby sleep better. BWAH! Hilarious. I'm not opposed to anyone drinking an occasional glass of wine during pregnancy but I figure, I've waited this long, I might as well wait a few more weeks. I thought it was funny and very liberal of her to say that though.
This weekend will be pretty busy. Tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut (nothing drastic but probably a good inch off of the bottom) and going to a friend's baby shower. That should be fun. She's not due until January so it should be fun to be the one 'due next month'.
On Sunday, I'm going to a breastfeeding class and we are finally taking a hospital tour. That will be the last set of baby related classes for us, which I'm happy about. I really like to veg out on the weekends as much as possible right now since the work week is always so busy for me. I sound so anti-social but I just don't have much energy on the weekends to do much and I'd rather park myself on the couch in comfy sweats and relax. :D
Rancid ~ So cool about the nursery! Can't wait to see the pics, esp of the waves. FWIW, I think the videos of birth make it seem a lot worse than it is. When it's happening to you, it doesn't seem as bad as they make it look in the video (and I had an unmedicated induced L&D).
Well that really helps to ease my mind a bit, thanks for posting that! I hope your sciatica pain subsides. Oooh, that’d be awesome if you had a Halloween baby! I love Halloween too. Mine would be way too early if he came then, unfortunately (like 5 weeks too early!).
Katnbug~ That picture of DS and DD is too precious! I’m loving your nursery colors and designs!!
Ppwgal~ Congrats on being full-term!
I can't believe we're starting to "pop" already! I'm hearing lots of people around me whisper that they don't think I'll make it to my due date,
Same here…just about everyone I’ve talked to has mentioned to me that they think my baby will be early, by a couple of weeks. I guess I’ll be lucky if I make it past Thanksgiving still pg, LOL! As long as I’m not in the hospital ON Thanksgiving Day, as my mom has said she will not halt the holiday feast for anything, LOL.
Sinclair~ How did you like the Blue Man Group show? I saw them in Vegas a couple years back and it was so neat, but so odd at the same time. DH loved it b/c he’s into drumming so that was really cool for him to see them drumming on all sorts of contraptions.
Bijouparvin~ That’s a very interesting system! Even though everyone I’ve talked to that has guessed when I’ll be giving birth has said that I’ll be a couple weeks early, I wouldn’t be surprised if I made it to mid-December before this little guy decides to make an appearance.:rolleyes: Although I’d rather him be a week or 2 early than a week or 2 late, for my own sake of course.;)
My response...
Well, that's just absurd... if my water breaks in that scenario we'll BOTH wait for Pujols to bat. Like i'd miss something like that!!
I’m LOLing at this post and your response! Why doesn’t DH just get one of those new phones that gets streaming tv on it, so you guys don’t have to miss ANYthing? My DH was showing off his phone to me the other night because it has that feature on it, which he looooves.:D
QOTD: Does anyone else feel really 'full' sometimes, even if they haven't eaten a lot that day? My stomach feels so heavy today like there is a huge sack of potatoes just sitting in there. I keep thinking to myself, "I can't believe that my stomach may grow even larger in the next 5 weeks"
Yes!! DH was feeling my belly the other night, commenting on how heavy it feels and asked how it feels to me. I told him that a lot of the times, it feels like I ate too much of a large meal and I just feel full all the time. I'm thinking the same thing as you, but I have ~6 more weeks of 'growing' to do. Luckily I haven't grown much belly-wise in about a month now, or so I think when I look at pictures and compare them.
Scarlett~ Yay for starting maternity leave! Congrats!!
34 week belly shots from last night....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/rancid13/34w0007.jpg
Not too much of a difference from last week though. I've only gained 2-3lbs in the last month to month and a half, and I swear it's all in my behind. That might explain why my pants keep trying to fall down even though I've enlisted a Bella Band to help keep them up.:eek:
I’ve been seriously thinking about this whole c-section vs vaginal birth thing and doing a lot of research and it really sounds like I should avoid getting a c/s unless it’s a medical necessity, as it is major surgery. I think I was panicking a bit after the childbirth class videos, and it didn’t help that I went straight home and to bed so I could dream horrible dreams about what I’d seen. I’ll be brave and stick it out and try to have a natural birth should there not be any complications.
Gotta make this quick... having nap issues with DD (again!!!!!).
RO's-Did anyone have their membranes stripped? Did it help induce labor? Was it painful? I'm considering asking her to do it at my appt next Thursday to see if things will start moving along.
I did with DD. One of my OB's did it and didn't ask, nor did I know she did it until after it was done. I wasn't thrilled about that. I would have liked to know ahead of time... I thought that was kind of fishy but I've heard it has been done to other mommies w/out their knowledge, too (there was a thread about it on the WC). Anyway, all it did was give me horrific cramps and pretty bad spotting (bright red). I wouldn't recommend it. I don't know how great it is for starting labor and I think it can put you at higher risk for infection, as any internal can.
BBL with SOs!
I'd like to say that I want to be one of the 3 on Nov 12th. As odd as it sounds, I was really aiming for November 11th (a stat holiday and one of my favourite cousin's birthday) but that would throw off the whole system!
That would put her at 9 days early, which seems reasonable to me. However, as bratty and stubborn as she has been so far, I can definitely see it being November 30th!
Rancid: I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one feeling full all the time. And I hear ya on wanting the baby to come 2 weeks early rather than 2 weeks late. But I wouldn't have the patience to wait that long. After my due date hits, I will be asking for the earliest date to be induced. I have no patience!
Last night at dinner the waitress came up and said, "We have some new drink specials" then looking at my stomach said, "Obviously you won't be having any of them"
I would have said something like, "Oh, I would but I'm still nursing a hangover from last night's keg party...maybe next time?" :D
At a restaurant about a month or so ago the waiter brought out the drink list before handing us the menus, and was about to hand it to me then saw the belly and handed it to DH instead. I said, "Hey, what about me! Don't I look like I could use a nice drink right now?" and got a good laugh from everyone from that.
I had my 38w appt today and everything went well. Baby looks good but hasn't dropped into place yet although he feels like he has. She said that she thinks it will be sooner rather than later for me but then she said that it could be this weekend or 2 weeks from now. :rolleyes:
If it effects anyones 'who's next poll' - No changes for me at my appt today. Still 1 fingertip and 30% effaced. bummer! She is going to do an u/s next Friday to see how big he is because she thinks he's huge so who knows maybe i'll end up being induced but i honestly don't want to be. I fear Pitocin :) I'd much rather go into labor naturally. I'm putting myself down for 11/3. Who really knows though, right?
Lydia update--One of my LJ friends is friend with Lydia IRL. Here's what she posted yesterday:
First off, I am happy to report that Madison is now a big sister. Mason Francis (or is it Frances?) was born earlier this afternoon. He is 7lb 9oz with a head full of curly black hair! Lydia is doing EXCELLENT. She sounded like it was just another normal day when I spoke with her an hour after his birth.
Anyone else dealing with miserable acid reflux??? Mine started acting up really badly this week and I hate it. I guess I should be happy, 'cause it took 34 weeks to get this bad. :o
Feeling full? I wish! I am hungrier than I have been in a while... I think baby has dropped a bit- not into position, but is just sitting lower- which allows Momma to eat as much as I desire. :eek: Yikes!
eta: Will I miss being pregnant? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I appreciate the fact that my body will carry a baby to term and that I did not have a terrible pregnancy this time, however, I never want to be pregnant again. I would consider surogacy if my sis ever asked, but other than that, I plan to never have another child of our own.
Congratulations Lydia and welcome Mason!!!
Miss being pregnant? I think I may have already answered this one but things are getting worse as time goes on so I'm definitely ready to be done and not do this again. I have been such a cranky, hard to be around b*&ch lately that it's amazing that I'm still married and have friends willing to talk to me. The lack of sleep coupled with DD's "antics" (for lack of a better word) has completely worn me down and I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing my mind at times. I literally dread the night because I know it's just going to be a battle to get more than 4 hours of sleep and then I feel like I could nap all day but can't. I don't remember being this unhinged last time around and it kind of scares me but I figure it's just because I have less time and energy to take care of myself when DD requires so much attention. I'm still (stupidly) trying to be all things to all people (perfect wife at times, active/involved mom etc) which is completely ridiculous and unecessary considering I'm the one putting the pressure on myself and DH has basically said that he has no expectations of my doing anything around the house beyond getting through the day. He's been so "good" lately and all I've done is moan and groan about much I hate this. He's tried so hard to find the right things to say to me and I keep feeling like I just shoot him looks of disdain all day long.
*side note..having a seriously long and painful BH contrax while I type this. Ouch!! Between that and the pressure on my cervix, it's a wonder I'm able to think. :D
On a positive note (because I always feel so guilty when I complain) my double stroller should be here in less than two days! We decided to go with the Mountain Buggy Urban Double based on several friend's recommendations and I can't wait to get one for ourselves! It's heavy (35 pounds) but handles all terrain with ease and has awesome resale value when we finally don't need a double anymore. Plus, I got to bid on ebay for it and I'm a sucker for a good ebay auction. ;)
