I'm looking for book recommendations for my 6yr old neice for xmas.
I don't know what she's into - her father is in the army and they're currently stationed in North Korea so we never see them.
TIA!

My 6 year old and her friends are very into "Junie B. Jones" books. They are a whole series of small fairly easy to read chapter books about a quirky girl in kindergarten and first grade. Actually quite funny! Good luck!

I know this isn't for everyone but we just went to a birthday party for a 6 y.o. girl last weekend, and when we asked what to get her - since we don't know much about 6 y.o. girls - they suggested an Aladdin V.smile game (or a couple of others but that's the one we got). We know she is a pretty girly-girl, so we also got her a Disney Princess book of stories that also had a stickers in it (a big book, 8.5 x 11, with about 100 pages).
Sorry I can't be more help but those are my ideas!
Amazon has suggestions by age in the Children's Book section, I believe.
little girls that age love the kevin henkes books.
also, mem fox is another good author for kids that age.
the books might be too hard for her to read, but they are wonderful read alouds.

I second the Junie B books by Barbara Park.
My DD is 7, and she loves these books. They are very popular with her and her friends. They all go crazy when a new book is released!
American Girl has some pretty cute books and activity books as well. Most of them are geared towards older girls (8 or so), but there are some suitable for younger girls. You can get them in the book store, and they are usually on there own shelf.

I totally agree about the Kevin Henkes books! I student taught in 2nd grade and the kids LOVED these books! They actually even voted him their favorite author and there were sure a lot to choose from.
The Angelina Ballerina books would go over well, too.

I taught 2nd grade (7 year olds) and they all loved Junie B Jones and American Girl. If you're looking for a Xmas themed book, Auntie Claus was a big hit with the girls: http://www.amazon.com/Auntie-Claus-Elise-Primavera/dp/015201909X/sr=8-1/qid=1160601275/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9323543-4804725?ie=UTF8

I love the Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace. They meet when they are five, and the reading level is for 6-7 year olds. As they age, the reading level ages with them, until Betsy gets married. I adore those books!

Too funny. My daughter's reading the Junie B. Jones books in school. In fact, she gets to meet Junie B. Jones herself on Monday for a field trip.
