This year my baby daughter is dressing up as a leopard and I'm going to wear black & use some cat ears I've had for years. DH is feeling left out because he can't think of what to be to coordinate.

In the past DH & I have dressed as:
vampire & his victim
Spanish swordsman & lady

Last year we skipped Halloween because he was out of town for work & I was very fatigued because I was pregnant & didn't know till the following day. :)

My older children never want to dress up anymore. :(

We're having a pot-luck and costume contest at work. At lunch today, another co-worker and I decided on dressing up as nerdy engineers. We are engineers, so it seems fitting. High-waisted kahkis, a company polo, white tennis shoes, rimmed glasses with tape, cell phone on belt, calculator on belt, pocket protector, etc. I'm thinking of braiding my hair the night before so it's all frizzy. We'll see... I don't know if I actually have the guts to show up at work like this or not! :D

I haven't dressed up in a few years (I really need a good costume party to go to!)

I did see a picture online of someone dressed up as the wheel from Price is Right. I would love to do that!

LOL these are great! I sooo want to see pictures!

My older children never want to dress up anymore.
Todd's stepsister is going through this with her 12 year old. We keep telling her to dress up, but her thought it is her younger brother gets all the candy and hardly eats it so why dress up? Let someone else do the "work" and reap the benefits. Aaah the tweens. ;)
I don't know if I actually have the guts to show up at work like this or not!
Suuuure ya do! ;) Peer pressure...

I did see a picture online of someone dressed up as the wheel from Price is Right. I would love to do that!
Spin me right round baby, like a record baby, right round... LOL

This is a little vulgar, so I don't know if I can post it here, but it sure is creative:

I went to the Halloween tradeshow in Chicago last March and got to see all of this year's costumes... there are some really great ones. For those of you looking for something a little more risque, Playboy has come out with a line of Halloween Costumes this year.

Unfortunately, I am going to be in Hong Kong for Halloween so I am going to miss it. My fi is dressing up as Dog the Bounty Hunter, but if I were around, he was going to dress as Flavor Flav and I was going to be Buckwild.

I'm still trying to rack my brain to come up with what to dress up as. I love dressing up. So far, I've come to work as:

-Phantom of the Opera
-Carmen (or the Chiquita Banana lady)
-Farmer
-Pinocchio
-Goth
-1/2 man & 1/2 woman
-Nerdy Engineer (I'm a secretary in an Engineering Dept. so that went over well)
-Hobo

Have I mentioned that for 4 years now I've been the only one at work to dress up? The humbugs!

Here's a picture of my 1/2 man and 1/2 woman from last year:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a263/Crazyhappy1/Miscellaneous/Halloween2005.jpg

Here's a sort of far away picture of my nerdy Engineer costume:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a263/Crazyhappy1/nerdeng.jpg

Here's me in Goth. You have no idea how much gel and hairspray I had to use to get my hair to stay like that:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a263/Crazyhappy1/Goth.jpg

Here's a close up so you can see my "nose ring" (it was just a toe ring I bent to fit into my nose). I went all out for this costume:

This year I'm going as the Keebler Elf (yellow slacks, green jacket, red shirt, yellow tie). I'm trying to figure out a way to make DH look like a cracker. We are considering doing a play on words and having him look like a "cracker" (trashy white guy). His students are mostly Puerto Rican, and they find this totally hilarious and keep offering suggestions. :p

DH and I are going as "food mascots" this year. He is really tall, so I wanted to use the height and he's going to be the Jolly Green Giant. I wanted to sort of corresond, so I am going as Miss Chiquita. I have yet to create my headpiece, but I bought a bunch of fake fruit this weekend. (It's more expensive than I would expect!)

In the past, we have been:

A Twi'lek (from Star Wars) and he was Nosferatu (those weren't related)
Medusa and Perseus
A Mermaid and Sweetums (big Muppet)
Frankenstein and Bride

And in the past, I've been Pippi Longstocking, Anne Boleyn...I'm not remembering what else at the moment. I LOVE Halloween, though!

(I'll do pictures after I pull them all off shutterfly and put them on snapfish)

Woo Hoo look at you, Sophia! Sexy mama. ;) Those are great costumes.

Everyone is so creative! I couldn't think of anything and poor Todd, the costume he got doesn't fit and it's pretty much one of a kind (Hellraiser reproduction.)

salysaturn I LOVE the 50's girl idea!

kd LMAO! That'll be great!

greenbunny I love that! OMG that is too funny!

silentbunny Hmmm I might have to steal an idea from you since Todd is really tall too! ;)

Me and DH are going to a costume party this year...We aren't dressing as a "couple" but he is going to be a Ghostbuster and I'm going to be a pirate girl. He has been working on his costume for months and I just started searching for fabric to make mine. I'm so excited for Halloween this, haven't dressed up in so long!

Ok, I know this is completely non-PC but I'm going to be Drag Queen Batman.

Yeah...I know. I don't even know how this idea got dreamed up but I can't back out of it now. I beleive there was wine invovled ;)

My husband beleives I'll offend Batman fans, but it's all in good fun, if batman can't be a drag queen, who can? lol

Silentbunny had better make good on her promise to post her Halloween pictures - her Medusa costume rocked, as did all of the others!

Halloween is my Christmas - my absolute most favourite time of the year. This year, since my birthday is a week prior, we're combining the two into a birthday/Halloween party, and the theme is to come as any vampire of your choice. Our friends are all cooking up various vampire costumes. I'm a huge Buffy fan, so I'm going as Drusilla - DH wanted to be comfortable, so he has concocted a vampire clown costume that is actually really creepy!

In the past, I've gone as Malibu Barbie, a rhinestone cowgirl (complete with sequined chaps), Sister Mary what'sherface from Saturday Night Live ("Superstar!"), a sexy angel with enormous white feather wings that we made ourselves (my roommate and I wore identical costumes), and a gothy angel in head to toe black (that was the year I won "Best Cleavage" at our friends' Halloween bash, which was hilarious, because I have the smallest chest - it was just a REALLY good bra).

DH has gone as Hunter S. Thompson as portrayed in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - more than once, actually, as I spent a lot of time making a jacket that looked the same, and he always gets recognized by diehard fans when he wears it. He went as a devil dressed completely in white (including hair) the year I went as the angel dressed completely in black. The year I went as Sister Mary, he wore a purchased "Hippy" costume, and even though it was the first one I hadn't made (I sewed all of the others mentioned), his personality made it hilarious. He wears it to answer the door for trick-or-treaters - complete with afro wig and huge sunglasses.

Oh, a couple of years ago, he and two of the other husbands in our social circle were going to go as drag queens, and we had assembled wigs and shoes and dresses, but Halloween ended up fizzling out that year for various reasons, and it's too bad - I would have LOVED seeing them like that - I'm sure it would have been a riot!

Off to see if any of our costumes are still uploaded to Shutterfly.....

This year, I'm going as the Count and DH will be my victim. We have also dressed up as St. Pauli's Girl and Samuel Adams; Marilyn Monroe & JFK and Mr. and Mrs. Universe (-it's a great excuse to get to wear some formal wear!)

I had started planning to be a hot nurse, but the party we were going to got canceled.

The nurse idea isn't all that creative, but I graduated this year with my BS in nursing so I wanted to do it just once.

Sophia
10-12-2006, 06:22 AM
I was a nurse about 10 or 11 years ago. I spattered red fabric paint on the front to look like blood and carried a big (plastic) knife. :)

I'm gonna be a colts football player this year. Simple, and won't require me to spend lots of money because I have the jersey allready.

but if I were around, he was going to dress as Flavor Flav and I was going to be Buckwild.

This made me LOL--too funny!

DH and I are going to a party as be Tom and Katie--I'll just look pregantn and vapid (not much of a stetch these days) and he'll run around telling everyone that they're glib and don't know the history of psychiatry!

If a second party appears, I wanna be K-Fed and Britney--my husband is not too excited about this one ;->

DH has been Stewie from Family Guy for the last 2 years--his costume ROCKS and he'll wear it during our neighborhood's trick or treating night. We rarely do couples' costumes, but we did go as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum a few years back.

Some really cute ones that require people to come up and ask what you are include:

-A flasher (dress normal but carry a flashlight. Occassionally shine the light in people's eyes)

-Partly cloudy with a chance of rain (Dress in gray. When someone asks what you are, spray them a little with a spritz bottle and tell them what you are).

I years past I have been a vampire (twice), Renaissance maiden (several times), raggedy Ann, tacky tourists...... We are supposed to go to a Halloween dinner this year and dress is required, but, I just haven't come up with anything yet!

at work this year, we're all dressing up like each other.

DH and I dressed as Big Red Riding Hood and the Little Bad Wolf. I made DH a little hooded cape, a wig out of yellow yarn, a little plaid skirt- found him a huge pair of women's loafers, white anklets... And then I found a small men's suit and sewed a wolf tail on the pants, got a foam bowler and sewed ears onto it, and gave myself whiskers and a brown nose with a brown eyeliner pencil.
It went over really well. :)

Another year, DH, my BIL and my best friend dressed up as the Dixie Chicks. (I try to get DH to dress up as a woman as often as I can, if you can't tell. He's 6'4", over 250 and very hairy, so it's always darned funny. :D)

I titled my costume Miss Congeniality. I am buying one of those cheap formal dresses at either Ross or a thrift store and then I'm going to make a sash that says Miss COngeniality. Then I'll put pimples on my face, do my hair all half attempt at formal messy, lipstick everywhere, and strategically placed toilet paper either on the bottom of my shoes or hanging from the bottom of my dress. It'll be fun.

Aw, thanks, you guys!

I actually made Sweetums' head and paws (he had feet, too) myself. I'm a huge Muppet fan, so it was sort of a personal challenge. I have to say, after many years of Halloween-ing, it's still the costume I'm most proud of. My husband is 6'6", so with the head on, he was a good 8 feet tall. :D

This year I am going as Ruby the pirate Beauty (http://www.amazon.com/ADULT-Ruby-Pirate-Beauty-included/dp/B000B7PXLI). We are having our annual Halloween party and everyone goes all out! I Can't wait!

One year my DH an his friend went as Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble! It ws perfect becaue they actually look like them- dark haired, blond hair, same build!

This year we haven't figured out what my DH is going to be but "Barney's" wife is PG so we want her to be an oven with a bun in it and her DH to be a chef ;)

For couples I liked the one in the store of the plug and the socket! (http://www.anniescostumes.com/7212.jpg)
I also saw a PG Nun (http://www.anniescostumes.com/5468.jpg) and a Priest with an erection (http://www.anniescostumes.com/5469fw.jpg) online somewhere!

DH was Zorro (that's where the sword came from). DS was a chicken or duck... whatever the costume is supposed to be. I was "Super Bleeder." It's not as gross as you think. It's modeled after a Dane Cook bit about people who wear Superman t-shirts.

I'm sad, because this year we can't go to our usual Halloween party. We have a rehearsal dinner to go to instead! BOO!

10-13-2006, 01:44 PM
Last year DH was a lumberjack and I was an "unhappy camper". I had my hair all ratty and put twigs and leaves in it, dirtied my face and pants and had a fake snake and spider sticking out of my pockets. It was fun and at 20w pg, was still comfortable.

The previous year DH was Valtrex Man and I was F*#k You Girl from the Stephen Lynch song.

I think DS is going to be a monkey this year. I have no idea what DH and I will be. We go to the same party that myshel has to miss and while people get dressed up, I don't think anyone really goes All Out for it, so we can be lame and still be okay. :)

I love the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes idea! We're going to a party this year with a bunch of people who would totally appreciate that joke... I may have to steal it. :)

DH and I have never actually dressed up in coordinating costumes. Mostly due to lack of enthusiasm and planning more than anything else. But here are some of our costumes from previous years:

Me as Arwen from Lord of the Rings (the Liv Tyler character in the movie), DH as Superman.

My husband and I just had a Halloween party at our house this weekend.

I dressed up as a geisha. The costume was beautiful (I got it at Target). I wore the kimono and sash and a geisha wig. I carried a fan. Oh, and I had a ton of fun putting together my makeup.

My husband was an escaped prisoner. He wore an orange jump suit and a wig. Very simple, but he looked great!

In a couple of weeks, we are going to a Halloween festival in our city. I am going to wear a different costume. I am going to be a "Bride of Darkness" The costume is a gorgeous black velvet and white lace dress with long flowing tattered sleeves. I'll wear a tattered veil and carry a bouquet of black flowers. I wanted to be the Corpse Bride originally, but the authentic Corpse Bride costume that I wanted was just too expensive.

Here are our thoughts:
1. The sheet family (holy sheet, bull sheet and our baby piece of sheet)
DH doesn't like this idea, says it requires too much thinking...ok, next
2. Me as Flav-Flav and him as Bridgette - I don't know about this idea, seems like a lot of work
3. The blue team from double dare (I'll take the physical challenge please) - this is the current winner, if I can't get the sheet family to work.

Any help re: the sheets would be great. Thanks in advance.

I don't have any reason to dress up for Halloween, but I like this costume.

I would love to get a chinese dress and a black wig too. I always wanted a Chinese dress.

Thought you all might be interested in this article from today's style section in NY Times -- about women "degrading" themselves with sexy Halloween costumes. I still haven't read the whole piece yet.

I'll admit I was turned off by all of the sexy costumes when we went looking last weekend. We're hosting a party for DH's co-workers and inviting their children so those wouldn't have been appropriate. We were hard pressed to find something appropriate for me.

We're going to a Murder Mystery - through Murder Mystery Maniancs. www.host-a-murder.com

We're supposed to dress up as Princess Isabel & Prince Pablo from Spain -

I'm supposed to wear a traditional Spanish dress(it says I'm a closet belly dancer;)) & he's supposed to come dressed as a Spanish bullfighter(he's a part time bullfighter and/Prince w/the Royal family). It should be fun.

Just got back and I am catching up! These are soo great! I love the pics everyone has posted of their Halloween Costumes from the past. You all are so freakin' talented!

I went back and forth and finally today we decided...I WAS going to be a dominatrix, then a female vampire...But Todd will be the vampire and I will be the maid he has bitten. Instead of a black and white French Maid costume, I got Burgundy and Black-just found it today and it fits like a glove thank goodness!! I'm going to have fang marks on my neck and my hair done so that you can see them. Any other ideas for twists greatly appreciated. Here's the outfit-it puffs out in the front but she's holding it down in the pic:

Last year I was a naughty cop and Todd was Caesar. These pics were taken at a friend's party last year.

All I can do is  at that article. Hey, I *like* to dress sexy in public once in awhile and if you can't do it at Halloween, then when can you do it? As others have pointed out, though-I'd only do it in age appropriate settings. No one is making me do it, I like how it looks and it's fun for me. We have a really awesome costume store in our area that has costumes that are anything from EXTREMELY conservative to waaay sexy. To each his/her own.

JLRenheos We just got back from Spain on Friday. We were in this costume store with the MOST amazing bullfighting and Spanish dress costumes. We about begged the lady to sell them to us and told her we would pay a lot. She was wonderful, but they were for rent only. Masterpieces! I hope you'll post pics, your costumes sound like they'll be wonderful!

I just got my costume on Friday. I was looking for a female pirate costume when I ran across this...

http://www.zoogstercostumes.com/images/products/ru73178_xl.jpg

It's a wench costume but DH added a headwrap, a sword, and a shash to make it more "pirate." I got a GREAT deal on it. I found it online for about 40 bucks but I got it for 20 b/c it has a small rip in it which SIL fixed right up. I'm so excited for our party this Saturday. DH is going as Ghostbuster.

I've sort of wimped out on a full-blown costume. It's only for work, anyways, since we're not going to a Halloween party.

Instead, I picked up cheetah ears & tail and will wear black with those. It's a half-way costume. :)

I have nothing to dress up for this year - so no costume for me. If I did have a something to go to I really think that Rainbow Brite costume is A-dorable and would most likely go as that.

The bob Ross and tree costume is HIL-arious!!!

And as far as women "degrading" themselves by dressing sexy on Halloween all I have to say is I think that writer needs a big 'ol cup of shut the hell up! ;) Kidding but really .... if a woman wants to dress sexy then why the hell not! Unless somebody is forcing her do to it then I honestly have no idea how that is degrading. For some people it's just FUN! Sheesh.

I'm going as a surgeon. What sucks is that I had to buy the man's costume, since they don't make the women's version in just your standard, non-sexy surgeon gear. Not that I wouldn't go as a sexy surgeon, but I don't think that it would fly at my son's preschool party (I'm helping out).

While I agree with you whole-heartedly, the point the reporter was making in that article is that if you are a woman who does not want to dress sexy/provocatively, good luck finding a costume. That is definitely the case here in NYC. Go into any of the shops (like Ricky's) and you would be hard pressed to find a "normal" women's costume. They just aren't available.

Ahhhh I see. I actually wasn't able to access the article before posting so I just went with the original description saying the article was about women degrading themselves :) Guess next time I should actually read the article, no?

I'm surprised. I'm finding that it's harder to find sexy stuff here than the more conservative. For the sexier stuff, most people go to the specialty shops. Our big costume shop here-Features-has a catalogue of sexy stuff, but the majority of their rental costumes are pretty conservative.

Wow, there are some great costumes here!

Dh and I just got to our new duty station (Korea), so we don't have most of our stuff, and the local stores don't sell Halloween stuff...so this is what we're going as this year (easy to make):

Him: Eye Candy. A white t-shirt with an eye (or an "I", we haven't decided) drawn on it, and lots of starlight mints and other candies stuck to it.

Me: A resident/legal alien (I hope people get it!) -- a white t-shirt that says "Resident/Legal" on it, and lots of green face paint, aluminum foil in hair, alien-style hairdo, maybe a third eye on my forehead, etc.

We were invited to a party tonight, but as it's only our 2nd night in town, we don't know any of the people. Should be interesting!

Maryanne and HeatherFL -- Thanks! We're looking forward to meeting people; everyone seems very friendly.

HeatherFL -- I have a blog about our move that's separate from my CC journal. There's some stuff in the journal, but not much past the summer. PM if you'd like the name of the blog :) Thanks for reading along!

We still had no idea what we're going to dress up as for the party we're going to tomorrow night, and then one of my LJ friends suggested we go as a Double Dare team (you know, the old kids game show from Nickelodeon). So I bought blue sweatpants and matching t-shirts from Wal-Mart, safety goggles, knee pads and clear plastic glasses that I'm drawing a red line on (we'll use them to drink our beer) and then making nametags tomorrow at work with the DD logo. Best easy idea ever!

We're going to a Halloween Party on Saturday. I'm going as a cheerleader. I found a cheerleading uniform over at Goodwill. DH is going as a fisherman. He thinks its lame, but thats all he was able to find at Goodwill. Our local Goodwill has a Halloween section with lots of costumes.

I'm going as a Pirate wench, I'm almost finished with my costumes...just doing last minute adjustments on the hat....I'm so happy with how my outfit turned out!!! (Okay...so it's not exactly the same as the one I really wanted...but it also wasn't $600!!)
My SO...is uh...usure if he's going to dress up at all  ..if he does...evil monk for the billionth year
Best friend - Scooby Doo.
This will be my first year going to the huge west hollywood halloweed party on santa monica - I'm so excited!
Can someone start a thread for a halloween pics after the 31st? I'd love to see everyone's costumes!

ITA with this, plus the message it sends to a borderline plus-size person like me is that I don't get to be part of the fun. That's really frustrating. :(

Anyway, DH and I always do a couple's costume. This year we're doing The Exorcist - he's dressing as a priest with a big prop cross, and I'm going to be Linda Blair, with Laura Ashley pjs, grey and white makeup, and lots of hair gel to make my hair all stringy.

Previous costumes:
- Ghostbusters: Egon and Jeanine
- Roger and Jessica Rabbit
- Wizard of Oz: Dorothy and the Scarecrow
- Nun and a mime (the theme was "black and white")

PG-rated - I did the Exorcist costume with DH one year too! It was so fun (and comfy - wearing pj's to a party!). Just a note though, I decided to get super-realistic and bought a can of split pea soup to smear over the front of the nightgown. I smelled that split pea soup all night - yuck! Have fun!

I am loving all of these costumes. :D

Last year my DH and I dressed up as a dead bride and groom (we were still engaged) people seemed to get a real kick out of it.

This year I wanted to go as a hillbilly bride and groom since we just got married 3 weeks ago but we don't have an parties to go to and we just moved into our house after the wedding so it is a mess so we couldn't have a party there. My DH is pretty bummed, he LOVES Halloween!

Oh well, there is always next year!
