Just wondering if this is normal.
Background: I've been on the pill for a year and half. I decided to stop b/c we are going TTC after Thanksgiving (until then we're just using condoms). Anyway, I should be on my 2nd week of the pill if I was still taking it. NOw I have cramps and I am the kind of woman who hardly ever gets cramps. Before I had my son I NEVER had them and since I've had my son (almost 2) I get them once in awhile but never this bad. I also feel sore.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this when they get off the pill. I have my yearly in December so I am planning on discussing it then (and hopefully be pregnant or about to be). Does anyone think this is something to worry about? I wasn't too worried, but I've been complaining a lot and DH told me to post about it :o
( I also posted this in the sex section but I bet they're a lot of women who have gotten off the pill at some point in this section)

The first cycle off the pill can be a little crazy. Your body just has to get used to not having those hormones being ingested daily. When you say cramps do you mean like regular cramps or are you doubled over in pain?
From the timing I would say your body is just preparing to ovulate for the first time since you went on the pill. That can cause cramping. I used to get horrible cramps the day I O'ed, to the point where it hurt too bad to even stand up straight.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, but I am not a doctor. Everyone usually says that if you aren't sure if something is normal you should call your doctor. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it at all unless the pain was absolutely unbearable.

I agree that it sounds like O cramping. And even if you've never had it before you went on the pill, your body can do some pretty crazy things after coming off of it and just being a little older. I haven't been on BCP for well over 4 years now and my body does things it never did. I actually cramp now during O whereas I never did before (not even before I was on BCP). I sometimes spot around that time as well but not every cycle.
Good luck!

This is my first cycle off BCP too and I have noticed odd cramping twinges throughout the month (I am charting and don't think I have O'd at all thought).... I am thinking it's just my body figuring out what to do!

lil_geek, twinges is a good way to describe what I'm having. At 1st I thought I might've pulled a muscle, but then I realized it's down there that's causing the cramps.
I am not doubled over in pain and I'm not having any discharge so I think I'm okay. This is why I decided to get off the pill before we actually TTC b/c I figured my body would need some time to regulate... I was on the pill in 2002 and got off of it late 03 and didn't experience any of these symptons that time, but I bet my body has changed since I had my son.
thanks!

I asked my OB about this 'cause I was late taking my pills one time for a few days. Your body is just sensitive to the fact there are no BCP in your system anymore and it's figuring out what to do and to adjust.
Happy baby dust!

MY first couple of cycles off the pill I experienced EXTREME O cramping. The kind that lasted for 2 days and would take my breathe away. I had never experienced this before and felt it was just my body figuring out what to do after being on the pill for so many years.
It took my body a good 6 months to figure out what to do.

I agree it sounds like O pain but no harm in letting the doctor know especially if it is not normal. I was on BC for 10 years and when I went off I had bad cramping first day of my period (which I had before going on BC), but I also got pretty evident O pain I never had before. I never knew until I got off BC that you could actually get cramping around ovulation! I usually take Midol twice a month and it helps. A few years later I still get painful cramping around O and period but not all the time. Anyway good luck TTC! :)

Hi, not to hijack your thread but.........
I've also had cramps since getting off BC(since giving birth to DS in Jan). We had sex once unprotected---although we practiced the "pull and pray" method(not sure how else to describe it) I've been crampy even since I O'd....would cramping now mean pregnancy?
I don't feel like I am...but I don't remember cramps all month long!
TIA

New Mommy, that's definitely a symptom that many pregnant woman have described feeling during the 2WW.
Another slight hijack...onomatopoeia or any other ladies that feel O pains. Is it something that feels sensitive to the touch from the outside? When I touch my side it really feels tender.
I thought I might be having an appendicitis issue today, but a friend of mine thinks it might just be O pains even though I've never had them before. It definitely feels sore also like a tight muscle.

Hello all
I have just been going through this same thing. This is my first month off the pill and right around the time that I was due to ovulate, I had crazy pain in my lower stomach. For my it was on the left side and lasted abotu three days. I had never felt anthing like it so I called my Dr. and she sent me to have an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed no problems and the DR said she thinks I may have had a double ovulation. She did say that there is some kind of a hemorage type thing that can happen and that is why she made sure I had an ultrasound. My cramping went away for a few days and then came back much less strong yesterday. My fingers are crossed that maybe I was having implamentation cramps. This wole TTC thing is really a roller coaster!!

Hew?B: To fill you in on my story, after going off BCP about 5 or 6 months ago, I started getting REALLY bad cramping (abdominal & pelvic) from the time I ovulate until my period. I never had this pain before or during BCP so I had intravaginal and external ultrasounds, which showed nothing. I decided to see an RE, thinking it might be endometriosis since the pain is so bad and indicative of endo pain. She does believe I have endo, but is making me TTC for a few more months before doing the surgery to confirm. Strangely, in the past couple months, the pain during that 2 weeks has gotten better, but I still get a lot of random pain during that time.
Since you are only one month off BCP, it's likely that your cramping is just due to hormones adjusting or maybe pregnancy!
My friend actually had the same symptoms as me, and got pregnant within 3 weeks of TTC!
Good luck!
