What I wouldn't do for some nyquil right now. We're getting ready to move this weekend. Anyone know if I can paint if I wear a mask or something?

Allison78
10-03-2006, 02:05 PM
Sarah -

A Dec 06 Mommy here! I helped paint the nursery while pg. They say that latex paint is fairly safe as long as the room is well ventilated (so you may have to be painting in a snowsuit if you keep the windows open!) :D

Oil based paints are apparently a big no-no while pg, but most rooms don't require oil.

As for masks, the only mask that would make a difference with those volatile contaminants would be a full face respirator like this:

http://www.paintscratch.com/images/products/MMM07191.jpg

The white construction masks:

http://www.quakekare.com/ProductImages/8m5_detailed_image.gif

are for particulate and therefore won't help with paint fumes.

Full face respirators are WAY expensive so I'm thinking that keeping a window open and a sweater on is your better bet.

As with anything, if the fumes seem strong, or you don't feel well, you're best to avoid it but more than likely you'll be fine with adequate ventilation.

;) Allison

Thanks Allison. I'll keep that in mind. We are moving this Friday, and I would ideally like to paint all the rooms inside the house. Not all at once, but I'll see how it goes. Otherwise I guess DH has a lot of work ahead of him. I just wanted to do it myself instead of wishing I could redo it after he messes it up! :p

Congratulations from a June 05 mommy (and soon-to-be Feb 07 mommy)!!! I can't believe that it's time for this thread already. It doesn't seem possible that we were just finding out about our little ones two years ago (for those of us who are June 05 moms). I'm sure that as the weeks progress you'll have more members join you. I didn't get my BFP 6/7 more days from now two years ago.

It's a wild and exciting journey. Cherish every moment as they don't last long. In a blink of an eye you'll be the ones congratulating the June 2008 and 2009 mommies!

Joining! I've been reluctant to join b/c I'm still in that I-can't-believe-I'm-pregnant stage & I wanted to wait for my 1st ob appt. Then I thought, Ah well...might as well be optimistic & jump right in. My cycle was really odd in August, so I don't have a 1st day of LMP to go by, so I'm going my by own data. ;) I'm guessing my ob will do an u/s at my appt to get a more accurate due date.

June2007 Mommies--How many people have you told so far? For us, our immediate families (parents and all siblings) know, plus 2 of my friends. When are you planning on "announcing it to the world"?

Sarah6690
10-05-2006, 12:49 PM
It wasn't how I wanted to do it, but pretty much everyone already knows. DH was so excited, he told practically the whole world. And because it's a small world, I ended up telling anyone who didn't know already before they heard it from someone else. The only people who don't know yet are DH's mom and step dad and grandparents. They are the controlling type and don't think we should have more children (we only have 1). So, it's not going to be a pretty sight. They will have to be told this weekend as we are moving and MIL is painting DS's bedroom. She thinks she is painting the other room as a playroom, but it will in fact now be baby's room. Good times!

Only DH, one nosy friend, & I know so far. I'm going to wait a week or so more before I tell my mother, then I'll wait another week to several weeks before telling everyone else. I tend to be a private person, though, to begin with.

Wow, I can't believe I'm actually here. I'm still a little nervous to join because this just does not feel real to me, not after over a year of trying and so many rounds of IF treatment. But 3 blood tests can't be wrong, so here I am! :)

I hope you guys don't mind if I stay anonymous for a little while. DH and I are a little hesitant to share with the whole world just yet, so we're trying to keep things relatively quiet until we get to the 2nd trimester.

Of course, that being said, to answer yesterday's QOTD, we've told about 2 dozen people. Both sets of parents and each of our siblings, plus we told the dozen or so of our closest friends who've been following along with our IF journey, and also our bosses, who we told about IF because we needed so much time off work along the way. Everyone else will find out at the beginning of December when we reach the 2nd trimester.

Congrats Sarah, Emily, L&D Nurse, and Daphne! I'm so excited to share this amazing journey with you all! :D

Good luck DelSol!

Sarah, good luck telling your MIL this weekend. I hope it goes well! BTW, I PM'd you about the threadmistress thing.

Welcome, gymwidow and risa00!

gymwidow~ thank you for taking over as threadmistress!

No, I don't normally get low back aches with AF.. especially nothing to that extreme. Luckily today I can't really feel any pain there, so let's hope that was the last of that. I've been watching for spotting or clotting and haven't seen anything. I sure hate the first trimester wait.

L&D Nurse - how bad is m/s? Never experienced it so I'm not sure what to prepare for.

Daphne, thanks!

risa, congrats! You joined the TTC thread just before I left - I'm glad to see you made it over here so quickly! Lower back pain was the only pregnancy symptom I had, and I actually had attributed it to my IVF procedures instead of pregnancy. I think it's pretty normal. I'll try to remember to ask my doc on Thursday if a flu shot is okay. I think they are - I think I remember reading that it's actually recommended for pg women.

Emily, thanks! It's so good to see our group growing.

L&D Nurse, thanks, it's my pleasure.

Sarah, I'm glad to hear that the closing went well. Moving is such a PITA. I hope you're able to get things done quickly. How did your MIL take the news?

Jess & Stacie, welcome and congrats!

Nothing new here. I had some AF-like cramps last night that freaked me out a bit, but I've had no further spotting (did I mention that I bled all through last weekend and was absolutely convinced I was NOT pg before getting the blood test last Monday) and I feel fine today, so I'm guessing all is still good.

Yesterday I made my first maternity purchase. :) I bought a Bella Band (well, Motherhood Maternity's version). I've gained about 15 lbs already through 10 months of IF treatment (love those fake hormones), so a lot of my pants already don't fit. Hopefully this will help me get through the first couple of months before I can start wearing real maternity clothes!

We haven't told anyone yet either. We just found out yesterday and we're still debating when were going to tell everyone. With the first, we told at 7 weeks since I had just had my first appt. and u/s and it was Christmas so we wanted to surprise our families in person. We may wait until after my first appt. this time but I'm going out to visit my parents (just me and DD) the week before and I'm not sure I'll be able to keep in a secret! Its all still up for debate.

My first appt is Oct. 30!!

No real symptoms here yet. My eyes are really dry and burn (something that happened last time as well and is apparently a not-common symptom) and had some low back pain last week.

I forgot about MIL... DH didn't tell her!!! I was so PO'd. I'm not going to do it, because she'll freak out at me. He had all weekend and didn't do it. She mentioned things that she would like to do to the "playroom" but that's about it. Oh, I just realized that she is going to my house today to work on DS's room and I left a pregnancy book laying on the couch. Wonder if she'll see it and think anything or if she'll just think that I didn't put it away yet. This could be interesting.

We've told a handful of people. My mom knew I was testing on Sat., so she was among the first to know (also my dad). We called my in-laws just now and 3 of my girlfriends who were supportive during my entire IF journey found out this weekend. I go back for a repeat beta on Wed. morning and then in for an u/s in about 3 weeks (I think). After that I'm sure we'll tell more people...I can't wait to let others know.

DnJ, ooh, I don't think I could keep it a secret from my folks. I had planned to wait a day at least to tell them this time, but with all the drama surrounding me finding out, I only managed to wait about 5 minutes! :p

L&D Nurse, that's awesome!!!!! :)

Sarah, lol. I hope it goes well when she does find out!

Stacie, I know what you mean. The days are just dragging. I don't have a complete aversion to sweets, but I definitely don't crave them as much. Luckily (or maybe not luckily?) I can still stomach ice cream. ;)

Daphne, I hope your nausea isn't too bad today. Did you take anything for it last time? A friend of mine told me to ask the doc immediately for drugs as soon as it kicks in. I'm dreading that day!

Mystikal, thank you so much!!!!! :)

GA GAL, woohoo! I'm so excited to see you in here! I'll go update the thread to add you in now!

Well, I had a bit of excitement yesterday. I fell down my stairs. Only two of them, but my ankle twisted under at a very not-good angle and I landed right on it. It hurts a LOT, but of course DH freaked out more about the baby. I called my RE and they said that as long as I had no cramping or bleeding (which I didn't) I should be fine, but that I could go ahead and come in today instead of Thursday for my next check-up. So we went in and had an u/s and we saw not one, but TWO gestational sacs! It's still too early for a h/b, and the doctor was very careful to tell us that we can't be sure yet that either (or both!) are viable, but there were definitely two sacs there. Woohoo! It looks like my best friend might be right - she predicted boy/girl twins for us and she says she hasn't ever been wrong!

DnJ2002
10-10-2006, 07:20 AM
Stacie I had a huge aversion to sweets my first pregnancy. It only lasted the first trimester but definitely helped keep a holiday pounds off. Of course, once I hit the 2nd trimester I started craving DQ Blizzards

GA_GAL Congrats and welcome to the group :D

Gymwidow That is so exciting about seeing TWO sacs! I can't imagine how exciting (and a little scary) that is.

We're still holding out on telling anyone...its a little easier since both parents live out of state. But I know I'll have to tell my parents when I go to visit-there is no way I'll be able to keep it a secret that long when I'm with them everyday (and we'll be seeing DH's parents the next weekend so we could tell them in person as well). Of course, it currently all seems pretty surreal still. I think because we tried for awhile for our first-and this time we got pg on the first try!

GA GAL Congratulations and welcome!!!

gymwidow eek!! twins!?! That's soo exciting!!!

I'm only going to ask for nausea meds if I start throwing up (yuck). So far, it's just nausea, and as miserable as it is, I'd rather deal with it than take medicine for it. I've been sporting the sexy wrist bands & eating lots of salty snacks & carbonated beverages. I also keep reminding myself: this is the last time I'm going to do this (fingers crossed..)

LoveBeingAMommy - Congratulations! Happy you can joins the June 2007 thread. :)

My first doctor's appointment is November 2nd to answer any of my questions and do a mini u/s. It's not even with the doctor but her nurse. This is pretty standard in my city, so I'm surprised yall are able to get in much sooner. They won't see anyone before 8 weeks and the first appointment is with the assistant instead. Interesting. What exactly is a mini u/s?

I haven't told anyone yet, but am dying to! My husband wants to wait until after the first trimester even to tell our own family. I gave him this book called "My boys can swim" and he read it all and thinks he knows everything. I've already pulled the "I can't do the cat litter box." and "Can you make dinner? Hi Everyone! Congrats on all the BFPs!! For those of you suffering from nausea and morning sickness, hope you feel better soon! So far, I have been spared severe nausea, but I have had a couple of bouts of pretty bad car sickness. I also had a lot of car sickness when I was pregnant with DD, so I guess it was to be expected. In any case, I am so excited to share this experience with you all. gymwidow: I'm so excited to be here with you! I got chills when I read your post about the 2 sacs! How amazing would that be after all you've been through. When do you go back again? When will they be able to see heartbeat(s)?

DnJ2002: Congrats and welcome! I can't believe you are able to hold it in and not tell anyone. I'm dying to tell more people, but plan to wait.

daphne and L&D Nurse: Sorry about your nausea. I keep waiting for it to hit me. I know this might sound stupid, but I'd kind of like to have it so that I can know I'm really pregnant.

LoveBeingAMommy: Congrats!

risa00: Not sure what a "mini u/s" would be. I've had a lot of friends who said their OB wouldn't see them until 8 weeks. I think seeing a fertility specialist or RE is the difference....they want to make sure everything is going as it should in the beginning. Mine will see me at 7 weeks (until they see a heartbeat) and then I'll start seeing my regular OB. Speaking of it "already starting" my DH and I went out to dinner last night to celebrate and I insisted on going to Chili's (one of my favorites). He told me not to "pretend" to crave foods just so I could go eat where I wanted. :-)

eldub:yea! Congrats!

I have a question for you all...how much exercise do you plan on doing during your pregnancy. I usually workout on a regular basis (spinning/aerobics classes, light weight training, etc.) I've heard it is OK to keep doing what you did before getting pregnant, but I've also heard you shouldn't get your heartrate over 130-140. For now, I'm just sticking with long/brisk walks with my large dog and some light 5-10 lb. weight training. What about you all? I bet that when the fatigue/sickness sets in (in about a week I guess?) that I won't feel like doing much more than that.

I got in tomorrow for my repeat beta, so I'm anxious to find out the results.

Welcome everyone! We are just flowing in aren't we!

I set up my first appointment today for October 23rd

I am going to be counting the days. The nurse snuck me in a week early because of my previous m/c. Not as early as I would like, but I think I can wait two weeks.

I am feeling really positive about everything this time around. I am trying to enjoy it all and not worry. That won't do me any good! Plus this way every symptom seems like a blessing. So, even if I notice myself being unreasonably grumpy it makes me think "that must mean everything is progressing nicely!" Hopefully I can keep this up for two more weeks! :)

Exercise: I have been taking the dog on a brisk walk (about a mile) and when the weather gets too cold, I will walk on the treadmill. I don't know about heart rates, I just know I don't want to be a bump for 9 months.

Regarding Exercise I had the same question.. I was active before being PG and what I've done this far is stop the aerobic classes since I couldn't make it all the way through. I tried running on Saturday but with the sore BBs it made that hurt. Today I did the elliptical machine for 35 minutes making sure if I wanted to talk during it, I could. I heard that the 130-140 was an old rule and as long as you can carry on a conversation when you exercise, you are fine. ??? I don't know about weights. I need to find that one out, but so far I just stuck with 5-10 pound free weights until I hear for sure.

exercise I stopped doing ab exercises, but I'm keeping up w/my (approx) 4x/week elliptical workout for as long as I can! I gained 60lbs w/my DS, so I'm trying to avoid that this time. We'll see! ;)

Wow, everyone gets to go to the dr so early. Mine won't see me until 10w. It's killing me. And if DH even has to ask what time or day the appt is again, I swear I'll choke him. Oh, and this morning while I'm in the bathroom throwing up... he yells "Honey!" (he was still in bed) I'm thinking he's going to ask if I'm okay, but all I get is "shut the door". Hmmm... I think I'm a little cranky. Anyway, hope everyone is doing well.

Re: Exercise--I've just been walking the dog, which is about the extent of what I was doing before I was pregnant. I usually take her on one or two walks a day, 20-30 minutes each. Once I get into the second trimester, I'd also like to start doing prenatal yoga.

I went for my repeat beta today and it came back at 585 (up from 279 two days ago). They said that looked great and I'm all set for my first apt. on Nov. 3rd to see the heartbeat. I can't wait! I have a question for you ladies...they said that they are figuring how far along I am based on when I did the trigger shot, so now I'm not sure exactly how far along to say that I am. I was thinking 4 w 3 d (based on first day of last period), but now it seems like they are saying 3 w 4 d (based on trigger shot taken Sept. 21 so ovulating on Sept. 23). Can that be right?

All due date calculators that are based on your LMP date basically use 14 days after your LMP date as your O-date. If I were you I would subtract 14 days from Sep 23, and pretend that is your LMP date. :) Then you can count easily. That would put you at 4w 4d according to my calculations! :)

GA GAL I know, I should have smacked him. At least today he just kept his mouth shut. He's definately NOT a morning person, so he is a little more sympathetic as the day goes on. :p

DnJ, thanks, it's definitely a little of both!

Daphne, eek is right! We're so excited and nervous, too. I can't wait till my next u/s to see if we hear both heartbeats. I have to get those wristbands before I fly next month. I've been eating lots of Saltines lately and I had a ginger ale yesterday that made me feel better.

L&D Nurse, :).

LoveBeingAMommy & eldub, welcome and a big congrats!

risa, thanks! I've always wanted twins and everyone used to roll their eyes at me, but I'm so happy that my dream might now be coming true! I have so many appts so early b/c I go to an RE. This week's u/s was to look for the sac and next week's is to check for the h/b. After that I'm not sure how often they'll see me. I'll get released to my regular OB around 8-10 weeks. I say take full advantage of all the pg perks while we can. There are going to be plenty of downsides to it all, so gotta get the good stuff, too! My DH promised me nightly foot rubs every day that I'm pg, and believe me when I say I always collect! ;)

GA GAL, DH is already calling them our $7500 babies. Before when we thought it was one he was calling it our $15000 baby. So now he likes to say we're getting two for the price of one. We're both so happy and so hopeful that both turn out to be viable. My next appt is next Wednesday and we're crossing everything that two h/b will show up. I'd go with calculating your EDD from your O date. So if O was 9/23, count 2 weeks back from that for Day 1 of your LMP and use that for the traditional calculators. Or, just count back 3 months and 7 days from your O date (I think I read that formula on here somewhere, and it worked perfectly for my EDD). So from 9/23, your EDD would be June 16. That would put you at 4w5d today (I think).

Exercise - I used to be really active - in the gym 5 days a week, cardio, abs, yoga, etc. With IVF I had to put my membership on hold as the only pre-ER activity I was allowed was basic walking, which I do every day anyway. After my ER/ET, I was told no physical activity, so I became a couch potato. :) I started walking again last week, but now with my stupid ankle, I don't know when I'll do more of that. I plan to let it rest and hopefully in a week or so (as soon as we hear the h/b and I feel more confident about things) I plan to reactivate my gym membership. I have some trainer sessions already paid for and I'm going to ask my gym to assign me a trainer who works with pg women and will ask them to help me design a good workout that can last me throughout pg. I'm figuring a light cardio circuit of bike, elliptical, treadmill, and light weights (all stuff I did before). Plus I want to get a couple of prenatal yoga and Pilates DVDs for home.

Stacie, I'm glad you could get an appt for a little earlier than usual. I hope the 2 weeks (what a different kind of 2WW!) go by fast! I agree with you on enjoying things fully. My MIL tried to caution me last night about not getting ahead of myself (I was telling her about nursery bedding I found that I fell in love with) and I told her that I spent so long worrying and crying and miserable during almost a year of IF treatments that I'm enjoying every second of this for as long as I can. Only positive thoughts allowed!

Sarah, OMG, I had to lol at your husband. I'm sorry! I told my DH that story and he thought it was hysterical. I told him, just wait till it's us! I have to say, one nice thing about being with an RE is the constant monitoring. I NEED to know what's going on and hate having to wait. The one week b/w these appts is killing me so I can only imagine how hard it must be for you guys to wait weeks for your first one.

All is good over here. My ankle is feeling better. The swelling has gone down and I can walk a little better on it. But now I've come down with a head cold. I swear, it's like Mother Nature has to get back at me after rewarding me with a BFP. Whatever, I can take it! I'm just happy to be growing two little critters (hopefully!).

The queasies have set in pretty good. Not full-on nausea, but just queasiness for most of the day. I'm never hungry and am having a hard time eating much. Until about 5 pm and then I get ravenous. So I eat and then I feel queasy from having eaten so much. It's a vicious cycle. :p

I had a chemical pregnancy last cycle, but this one is looking a lot better. Last month I never got more than a faint line on the hpt and I spotted until I got AF. This month no spotting, dark dark line at 13dpo, and because of what happened last month I had my betas checked - 424 at 14dpo and 947 at 16dpo (today). I think those are pretty good numbers, so I'm confident enough to join!

Welcome to the new June Mommies!

M/s is still going strong for me, lasting almost all day. I try to eat every few hours, and just whatever sounds good. Yesterday at work it was mashed potatoes and chocolate milk. Today it's popsicles and ginger ale. I hope my baby likes carbs!

Those of you who have been here before, how on earth do you get through the first few weeks without going nuts? I keep obsessing over what's happening to me, what the future holds, what could go wrong. I browse pregnancy websites and message boards until I'm completely sick of it, but I keep wanting to read more. I want to just not think about it much for a few weeks, but obviously that's impossible.

No m/s yet for me (I'm not too upset about that :p ), but my breasts do feel kind of tender and I have lots of twinges/minor pain in my abdomen, especially right next to my left hip.

DH is in England right now visiting his mother and since this will be his only opportunity to tell her in person I told he could decide and tell her if he wanted (even though I'd prefer to keep it a secret a very long time). She wasn't too thrilled. I kind of expected that, she thinks 27 is too young. Considering FIL died a year ago at 55 when SIL was only 20, I'm not sure why she still thinks waiting is a good thing, but never mind. I'm sure she was kind of blind-sided by this. She told DH that his life is over now, nice. I would have asked her if that's how she felt when DH was born. DH doesn't regret telling her, but I wish we had saved it for a phone call down the road.

Magrat sorry to hear MIL took it so hard. Mine isn't going to be too thrilled either when she finds out. She was incredibly rude when we told her about our DS, but she came around. And now she's his biggest fan. Some people just don't share the same joy about your pregnancy and you are your DH do. Just ignore them and know that they will (probably) come around and if not that's their own problem. As far as getting through it, I'm having a much easier time the second time around. M/S is worse, but that will pass eventually too. It's hard to think of much else. I have been re-reading the Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. It is probably the most amusing book I've ever read. I recommend it to anyone who is pregnant.

Congrats and welcome LoveBeingAMommy, eldub and Magrat!

Magrat You sound just like I did the first time around. I researched everything I could on-line, found books at the library...it was crazy. I thought the first appt would never come (and I just kept immersing myself in information). Eventually (after a couple weeks), I calmed down and realized that there is nothing I can do to make the days go by faster or prevent something from happening. At that point, I just enjoyed my days-and was so relieved at the first appt to know all was well. Of course, this time around, I still did the same thing at first but now its been about a week and its getting better. I still feel like that first appt is so far away! Hang in there :) The time will go by so fast...and then you'll have a 14 mos (and, in my case, be doing it all over again!). So sorry to hear about your MIL as well. Luckily my ILs and parents will be excited for this baby (as they were the last) but I dealt with similar issues with my parents when I got married so I definitely relate.

One week more week down...only 35 (or so) to go.

PS-I also highly recommend the Girlfriend Guide to Pregnancy. Its funny and very honest (which I appreciated since I really wanted to know what to expect!)

magrat, congrats and welcome! I'm glad this pg is looking good! I'm definitely going nuts. I'm so excited to read everything I can find and look at nursery furniture and bedding and so much other stuff, and then I get this little nagging voice in my ear that says "what if something goes wrong?" I'm just trying to ignore it for now. But I get so anxious every time I think of how long till my next appointment (which is only 5 days away!) - the days seem to be draggggggggggggging now. I'm so sorry that your MIL didn't give DH a better reaction. My MIL is very good with comments like that and I never stop wondering what could possess a person to say such mean and thoughtless things to their own kids. I hope your DH is doing okay with it.

L&D Nurse, that's how I'm eating lately. I wouldn't really call this m/s just yet, but I'm just constantly queasy. Eating seems to make it worse, so I'm just sticking with plain stuff that sounds good. I'm supposed to go out with friends for pizza tonight and I hope I can stomach that! I've been craving it for a while!

Sarah & DnJ, thanks for sharing your previous experiences. I'm sure we'll be coming to you a lot for more advice!

All good here. My right backside and hip are aching from last night's PIO shot; DH must've hit a sore spot or something. We'll shoot up on the left for the next couple of nights and hopefully that will help.

Have a great weekend everyone! :D

magrat - Congratulations! Excited to see you over here. I'm sorry to hear about your MIL. I'm sure she'll come around. At least you have us girls as support. :)

I am the same way as yall.. I have been reading everything. I think my biggest concern is being 5 weeks today and not having any symptoms. Earlier ths week I had sore BBs, cramps, and a bad lower back. Now, nothing.. zero.. ziltch.. nada. It has me worried but I haven't seen any spotting or blood so we'll see. It still is early so hopefully symptoms come next week. I am taking a last minute trip to Italy and leave in a week so maybe that'll get my mind off of things. I also went to the regular doctor today to check my thyroid since I have hypothyroid and I hear it changes your dosage when you're pregnant. Anyone else have symptoms late from previous pregnancies or anyone not have any now?

DnJ2002
10-13-2006, 06:55 PM
risa00 I didn't have too many symptoms first time around. I had very sore BBs, very tired, nothing sounded good to eat (and a few days of queasiness although no actual m/s -I did have horrible heartburn the last 3 months so I figure that was my equivalent!), and I was really congested (which continued throughout the pg resulting in sore throats and nasal passages...). Don't worry too much about no symptoms as its different for everyone. I do know that usually symptoms kick in about 6w (but they can definitely start earlier). If it helps, I was thinking the same thing as you today since I haven't had too many symptoms yet and I guess I just expect it to be worse this time around. I just keep reminding myself that AF hasn't arrived and that's a good thing :D And that I should take advantage of feeling good now!

magrat, congratulations and welcome!

I've done this whole thing before, and it still doesn't seem real right now! I've had a couple of symptoms, but nothing major. I'm just happy that my DD decided to ditch the diaper this summer, so I don't have to deal with that during my first trimester.

The first couple of months and the last couple of months or pregnancy seem to drag on forever!!! In the beginning, you just want to get that belly and wear those maternity clothes. Near the end, you're just ready to be done and meet your little one. Trust me, it is worth it. I love hearing my DD say, "I love you, Mommy!" :)

Welcome & Congratulations Magrat !!

Like everyone else, I worry all the time that something might go wrong with this pgcy. I'm guessing that I'm almost 7 weeks along & every day that gets me closer to 12 weeks makes me feel a little better. I'm comforted, somewhat, by the fact that I'm queasy throughout the day, though I know that the presence or absence of pg symptoms doens't necessarily mean anything. I'm just trying to think positively. Also, I have a toddler son to chase after all.day.long so he keeps me busy (and tired) !

It's fun to watch this thread grow!! :)

I normally get along well with my MIL so I can't really complain too much. It's just disappointing more than anything. The ILs both thought we were way too young to get married (23 and 22), but SIL recently got engaged when she was 20 and that makes me smile :) The WC was a big support when I got engaged (I didn't think I'd get married that young either) and now our closest friends are people I met on the WC and they're really excited. Still, I'd hardly consider 27 all that young for having a first child, and we've been married 3 years and have a house and two cars and a picket fence already :) We decided we'd rather have our kids younger so they'd be all moved out when we retire and travel the world at 55 :) Some people like to live their own lives first, we decided to do it after :)

Magrat: Congratulations! Sorry your MIL isn't sharing your excitement the way you would have liked, but I'm sure as time goes along, she'll come around. I bet when the baby arrives she'll be eating her words. I'm only 25, but don't feel like that is "too young" to have a baby. I've been married nearly 3 years (got married right after college). Yes, we have single friends who still act like they are in college and are no way ready for the commitment of becoming parents, but I think it depends on the couple...age is just a number. Don't let anyone rain on your parade.

daphne: yea for the positive thinking. That is exactly the route I'm going for. I am not overly worried about a miscarriage, etc. and trying to think only great thoughts.

LoveBeingAMommy: I'm definitely feeling like you did with your first pregnancy...I can't wait for my belly to show. Love the cute picture of you DD. How old is she?

risa00 and Magrat: I've been reading non-stop, too. I spend hours on the computer and I need to stop myself. There is just so much to learn about though! I want to be well informed. risa00 , I've had sore bbs, but no m/s yet. From what I've read (ha!), it seems that the 6th week is when that will set in if it is going to.

Sarah6690: Glad to hear you suggest that book. I looked through it tonight at Borders and plan to order it on-line

I'm still so excited to be pregnant. Like I mentioned to risa00 above, the only symptoms I'm having so far are sore bbs, tired/out of breath easier when exercising, and today I was tired mid-afternoon. I took an hour nap and it was great! I actually felt guilty b/c my DH was painting the house and I was napping on the couch, but I felt like I needed to sleep.

I spent about an hour tonight looking at pregnancy books at Borders. I think I'm going to order "The Girfriends' Guide to Pregnancy" and "Your Pregnancy Week by Week." I've heard some negative things about "What to Expect..." and am not sure about that one. Any others you all have read or heard that are good ones?

OK, I've got to be stopped from shopping. I'm embarrassed to admit that I already bought maternity clothes, even though I won't need them for weeks. I'm just SO excited. I actually had good intentions. Sine all the summer clothes are on clearance right now, I decided I would look at Target, Old Navy, etc. for stuff to put away for next year. I just got out of hand. I really didn't get that much and everything was on sale (very low prices), but I know I shouldn't have gotten anything yet. DH thinks I'm crazy! A lot of my pants are already tight though...with all of the fertility drugs I've taken over the last 7 months, I've gained at least 10 lbs. and bet that I'll be out of my pants sooner than later. I'm hoping to borrow a lot of stuff from friends who have already had babies.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

GA GAL, my DD will be 2 1/2 next month, so she and her brother or sister will be 3 years and 1 month apart (the same difference as my DH and his brother). My sister and I are 5 years apart, and I have always thought that was too much of a difference for me.

I would avoid What to Expect..., but I did like Pregnancy Week by Week. Of course you have to get that free book by State Farm. If you have Publix grocery stores near you, you get a free book when you join their baby club, which is free.

I didn't like Girlfriend's Guide or What to Expect. They're all about interventions and medicalized childbirth. I found Girlfriend's Guide to be especially negative about pregnancy and having kids in general. I think I'm going to get The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth by Sheila Kitzinger. I'm also interested in the Sears books. I checked out Week By Week from the library and it's okay, but I think it's organized kind of weird. If you actually follow along week by week, you're not going to find out about how much calcium you need until week 7, that you shouldn't change kitty little until week 8, or the affects of caffeine until week 13.

VERY carefully joining you ladies!
Got my BFP this morning. I'm in shock!
Saying that I was NOT expecting it this month would be an understatement:p
I have NO symptoms whatsoever, but I remeber that I didn't either with my last pregnancy until I hit 6 weeks or so.
I had nausea yesterday morning, but that was really mild.
Oh, and I have a sore throat, and THAT was a sign I had last time!

magrat: Thanks for the input on the books. With so many different books out there and so much information, I think the best thing to do is not rely solely on one book, website, etc., but instead to read from a variety of sources and make your best judgments with the info you have.

LoveBeingAMommy: I agree with your child age spacing. Each of my brothers and I are 2 years apart. It was a little close growing up, but perfect now that we are grown. DH and his brother are 4 years apart and they were not really close because one was always in a different stage than the other. 3 years seems perfect! I'll have to check out the baby club at Publix. I was relieved to hear that I wasn't the only one with a sore throat as a sign of pregnancy :D And as for the sore boobs, mine haven't been nearly as sore as the first time around and I was getting concerned about that...then I read that its common with a second pregnancy for them not to hurt or hurt as much since they are already prepared! My boobs aren't sore either...and that always makes me wonder since it seems to be the most common pg symptom. But I do have "sensitive nipples" so I focus on that! Ha!

When I went on BCP many years ago, I had a giant boob growth spurt complete with puberty style soreness. I keep telling myself that my boobs adjusted to hormones then, so they are not adjusting now! :)

I still don't have any full-blown m/s yet. But I am suffering from the all day queasyness. And the desire to eat everything in the world!

I do have breast tenderness but I'm not in agony or anything. I felt a little queasy a few times today, but not enough to call in m/s for sure, maybe I just hadn't had enough to eat or I'm imagining it :) Still having the painful twinges on my left side, no idea what that is. risa, I have hardly any symptoms also. The queasiness is it, and I'm almost glad I have it because otherwise this whole pregnancy thing seems like a dream! WOOHOO for a trip to Italy! :D I was there once and loved it. Where are you going?

LoveBeingAMommy, I definitely cannot wait to get into matnernity clothes. I can't wait to let the whole world know I've got babies growing inside! :)

daphne, I can't imagine having another little one to run after right now!

magrat, that's too bad that your MIL is like that. You guys definitely did things the "right" way and she should have no reason to complain! 27 isn't too young at all! If we had been in a different situation when we were 27 I think we might've started sooner. But we had grad school, etc., and so we waited.

GA GAL, I just started reading the Girlfriends' Guide this weekend and so far it's pretty good. I also have The Mother of All Pregnancy Books, which isn't bad, and my SIL just gave me Your Pregnancy Week By Week. I like reading a combo of things b/c I feel like I get the best cross-section of info that way! I'm so tempted to go buy maternity clothes already! I had the same thought about end-of-summer clearances. I just have no idea what sizes to buy. I did buy Motherhood Maternity's version of the bella band and I love it. I've got an extra 15 lbs already thanks to those lovely IF drugs, so I know how you feel about the pants already being tight. I've got a stack that I already can't fit into.

Cosmogirl, welcome! Congrats! I had no symptoms at all (still don't, except for constant queasiness) and was 100% convinced I was not pregnant this month. I didn't even believe DH when he told me after he heard the results from the doctor's own mouth!

StacieLady, lol!

Hi all! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I spent yesterday surrounded by a bunch of 4-and-under kids and DH and I kept looking at each other and getting all weepy and sappy and saying how we can't wait till ours are running around with the same group..... We've been so silly for 2 weeks now since we got the good news. :p It just still doesn't seem real! This morning I was in bed munching Saltines and DH came over and said how happy he was I felt like crap b/c it meant the babies were doing okay and growing. Ha. Still no throwing up yet, and I hope that lasts, but the nausea is getting stronger and comes in waves now. My appetite is nonexistent and I'm just eating whatever I can stomach during the few moments when I can stomach it. Today that was a piece of toast at 8 and then a burger at 2:30. Oh, well, at least I got some protein in!

Two more days till our next u/s and I am so excited. I know it's possible we won't hear the h/b yet, but I can't help but hope and pray that they'll be there. I hope the next 36 hours go by fast!

The vomiting started this weekend :( I also started taking Vitamin B6, which I think might be helping a little bit. Also, my face is really oily and breaking out  Yuck. Ah, the joys of pregnancy. I am pretty sure we'll only be having one child. I don't know how so many people go through this more than once!

When my DD was born, I couldn't imagine doing it again. Um, well, I was wrong! I'm trying to make sure I savor this pregnancy, since it looks like it will be my last one. I told my DH I was going to "milk it," since I let him off pretty easy last time.

Well, it's official:

http://lafemmebonita.com/blinkies//Pregnancy%20and%20Babies/havingTwins.gif

We had our second u/s this morning and at 6w1d our babies are big and strong enough for us to have seen their fetal poles and their teensy hearts beating away. We were even able to hear them! It was I think just about the single most amazing moment of my life. DH and I both were teary and the doctor was grinning. He was glad to hear that we're happy about twins and said that it's a good sign that the heartbeats are so strong this early, and also that each baby has its own gestational sac (makes it a less risky twin pregnancy).

Everything else looks good. I'm waiting for my blood test results - we're hoping that they can start weaning me off the progesterone shots soon. I go back each of the next two Wednesdays for more monitoring (mostly focused on b/w so that I can get off the meds, but also will get u/s each time = yay!), and then after my last RE appointment on Nov. 1, I'll be released to my regular OB/GYN. Just about 11 months to the day of my first appointment there.

I am getting NO work done today. And I can't stop grinning! :D I'll be back in a bit with replies!

gymwidow Hooray for 2 strong baby heartbeats!!!! I'm so happy for you! :)

I'm still hanging in with my nausea & fatigue. DS has been particularly cranky recently & I'm sure it has a lot to do with my flagging energy levels. My poor little guy.

So, I have 3 friends who are having a great deal of trouble conceiving (one already has twins from IVF, but would like another baby; the other 2 are trying for their 1st babes - 1 through IVF, one is on her 6th or so month of trying on her own). I'm beyond anxious & nervous about sharing the news of my pregnancy. They've confided that they're having a hard time being happy for their other friends/relatives who are currently pregnant & now I'm part of that group. I'm just so sad for them :(

Sarah, magrat, StacieLady, em1126, risa, eldub, LoveBeingAMommy, & daphne, thank you all so much!

magrat & risa, lol, you're probably right! We're guessing we might end up with May babies.

Cosmogirl, I hope you're feeling better by now! I'm really lucky that I get so much monitoring. These are IVF babies and I'm still with my RE, so they see me weekly to monitor my hormone levels (I'm still taking progesterone shots) and I've been able to get an u/s every time. I'm so glad, though, because it means I get to see the babies frequently! Once we get to the OB in a few weeks I'm sure I'll have less frequent monitoring, although now that we're a twin pregnancy I think we get a little extra. I won't argue with that!

L&D Nurse, ugh, I'm so sorry. I hope it's not constant and that you get the occasional break from the nausea.

daphne, as one who's gone through just about every IF treatment out there, I hope it's okay if I offer my perspective. I had a number of friends announce their pregnancies while we were trying, most of whom had no idea that DH and I were going through IF treatment, much less TTC at all. I can honestly say that in each and every instance I was thoroughly happy for them. I was also a little sad and there were a couple of times that I cried after finding out. But I think in some way my own IF journey made it that much sweeter to hear about a friend's success, b/c I knew firsthand how hard it can actually be to get pregnant, and what a miracle it is at all, and that it's a true reason to rejoice. I also had a DH who was 100% convinced throughout that we would one day succeed, and that definitely helped me through the harder times. In the end, I was always glad my friends shared their news with me, even if I couldn't express that right away and wasn't always able to take an outward interest in hearing about their pregnancies. I hope that helps a bit.

I have a very good friend from college who has been TTC for 3.5 years. She has had a lot of ups and downs with failed treatments, a m/c, and she is now beginning IVF. She has told me and my other friends that she definitely wants to know and share in our lives, but that she doesn't always know how she will initially react to the news. She has asked that we tell her in an email, that way she can have time to process the news in her own way with no pressure. And then, she can share her happiness when she is ready. (I hope that is helpful. We were also very lucky that one of our friends asked her what would be easiest for her before it became an issue.)

Me, well, I have NO voive today. This is starting to freak me a little, I don't want ot send harmful germs to my baby.
I'm feeling some things down there, but no pain or anything. Boobs are MAYBE starting to feel sore... I have back pain though, it is really bad.
Otherwise nothing much, I have to try to remember to take a belly pic soon as being the 4w/start of the pregnancy!

Off to study! Have a good evening!:D

Thanks for your support & advice gymwidow and Stacielady . I think I will probably tell 2 of my friends via email. I was living abroad with my 1st pgncy & that's how I told almost everyone, so hopefully it won't feel too impersonal. The other friend is my dearest friend, who lives in Chicago, and I'm visiting her the weekend after next. I have to call her to tell her. She'd be crushed if I told her via email. Hi Girls,

I've been away from my computer for a few days, so sorry I've been MIA. Still doing well here. No m/s yet, but I'm feeling myself get more tired. I've gone to bed at 9:30 every night this week (which is early for me). I can't wait for my u/s on Nov. 3 to see the heartbeat and know that everything is going well.

Gymwidow: Congratulations. I can only imagine how excited you must be. Maybe now you will get to wear those maternity clothes a little sooner. :-)

I'm so jealous of all of you that aren't having very many symptoms. I think I've got them all. :( m/s, VERY sore bbs, back pain... okay, I'll stop there but you get the point. Here's something gross for you all. At about 5:00 or so this morning I woke up and had to pee. So I get out of bed and I stepped in something squishy! Oh yeah, my lab had pooped on the floor next to my bed. If I didn't have a reason to throw up before that I sure did now! So I hopped to the bathroom, managed to clean my foot off and spent the next half hour throwing up. I want to be mad at her, but DH's grandma has been over at our new house everyday working on stuff (she's our own personal Bob Vila). I swear she feeds the dogs everytime they even look at her funny. Anyway, I just had to share that with you.

LoveBeingaMommy that's an adorable way to share your news. I was thinking of doing something similar, but DH was calling everyone as fast as he could and just blurting it out.

Cosmogirl sorry to hear about your voice. Hope you get it back soon.

Well, my big plans this weekend are to go buy a maternity bra. Yup, the ones I have already are getting too small. That's about the only area I didn't really need help in to begin with. But what can you do?

magrat
10-19-2006, 07:19 AM
I'm starting to feel a little...off. Not really nauseus, but not 100% either. Kind of light headed, and my digestive system feels like it has stopped. It's hard to describe, but it could be all the crap I've been eating lately :p I've been too lazy to cook, especially last week when DH was gone. Tonight I'm going to make a stirfry with brown rice because I really need to get some good food in me. Still, I won't be surprised if m/s hits me all of a sudden (but I'm really hoping it doesn't).

I'm going to tell my parents I'm pregnant on my mom's birthday (Nov 11) which is a few days after my 8 weeks appointment. I just ordered this book from Amazon and am going to give it to her:
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/0941807576.01._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-dp-500-arrow,TopRight,45,-64_AA240_SH20_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I just would find it too hard to say straight out that I'm pregnant. Though I have to say there have been several times since I found out that it would have been really easy to drop it into conversation.

L&D Nurse, thanks x2!!

bunnybeth, awww, thank you so much! I can't believe you're so close now! I hope you're feeling okay!

Cosmogirl, thanks! We transferred back two embryos, so we knew it was a good possibility, and we found out last week that we had two sacs, so we were prepared. Yesterday we were really hoping to see if both were viable. I'm so glad they are! LOL - I'm definitely trying to get plenty of rest. If only my DH would stop working late. I've been staying up so he can give me my PIO shots when he gets home and he's been way late the last two nights. I hope your voice comes back soon. Just baby yourself and get lots of rest yourself!

daphne, that's great. I hope they do okay with the news.

LoveBeingAMommy, awww, how cute!

GA GAL, sleep is a good thing, isn't it? ;) Thanks for the congrats. I'm going to start shopping for maternity clothes in the next couple weeks so I can have 'em ready for when these kids make it impossible for me to button anymore of my pants. I think I'm down to about 4 pairs that fit!

Sarah, awww, I'm so sorry. What an awful way to start the day! My cat woke me up at 1:15 puking at the foot of my bed. Then she ran to the hallway and puked on the carpet there. I bolted straight up and then went to clean it. I managed to not throw anything up myself, but it was not fun. I hope you're feeling better now!

magrat, I think that's how I felt last week. Just kind of queasy most of the time. No appetite whatsoever. This week the nausea is here. Blah. That's a really cute book and I bet your mom will love it!

I had a little chat with the ladybugs this morning (that's what one of my books says they're the size of this week) and tried to make a deal with them that if they could just let me get through my commute to work, I'd be fine with them making me nauseous until it was time to go home. They seemed to listen, until about halfway through my commute. Guess they just couldn't hold out any longer... Of course now that I'm at my desk I feel okay. I hope it lasts! I have a massage at 3:30 this afternoon and I don't want to be feeling yucky then.

QOTD: do you guys feel a bond or anything yet with your babies? Yesterday when I was having my u/s I saw the h/b and everything beating away and heard it, but it almost felt like it was happening to someone else and I was just a spectator. But now every time I think about it, I think about how those little things are growing inside ME, and it makes me all teary and emotional. They are actual little mini-babies and they're in my belly! HELP! I leave for Italy tomorrow morning and I'm coming down with a cold. I haven't been to the OB yet, so have no clue what kinds of medicine I can and can't have. Does anyone know for sure? I looked online and everything says different things.

QOTD: Not yet.. I hardly have any symptoms (hardly sore BBs is pretty much it) and haven't visually seen anything or heard anything so my life is pretty much normal as before. Until I know for sure, I don't think there will be a bond.

eta: OMG.. I just realized tomorrow is 6 weeks! Time is flying!

risa00 Try www.safefetus.com. I think it is pretty comprehensive, and it has been the one everyone has suggested I check.

QOTD - I am torn about the bond. Because of my previouse m/c I am a little wary of forming a strong bond, but then again not forming a real bond because of worry was the thing I was the most regretful about last time. Currently I am "hopefull" and "positive" but I wouldn't say that I was forming a strong bond yet. However, I plan to head full steam towards the bonding after that first strong u/s on Monday!

BFP: 10/18/06
EDD: 6/29/07(from due date calculator)
Gender Prediction: DH says girl. I'm not sure yet.
Any other children: Our 2 angel babies: Jacob John (10/6/03) and Gabrielle (2/06)

My doc is being very pro-active with this pg since we've been doing the IUI with Clomid. I had a blood draw on Wednesday and another today to check the levels and make sure my progesterone is all right. Apparently I'll find out today or Monday how everything comes out that far. Otherwise I'm feeling great, a little scared, sore BB's on and off but that's about it.

My first appt. is November 13th with my OB/GYN here in town (different than the doc we saw for the IUI-he's an hour away). I need to remind her to mark it in my chart that I'll need to have a planned C-Section for this one (a result of how they had to perform an emergency C-section cutting an upside down "T" when Jacob was born. My uterus won't be able to handle any active labor with pushing).

Answer to QOTD: do you guys feel a bond or anything yet with your babies? Not quite yet but I'm sure once my waist starts expanding, I'll feel it more. It's just really hard to feel a bond when I don't feel anything yet.

risa, it's probably too late and you're probably already gone, but my RE's office told me last week when I had a head cold that I could take Benadryl or Claritin or Robitussin DM.

Stacie, you must be so excited about your first u/s!!!

Nikki, welcome! What a journey you've been on to get here and I'm so glad you're with us.

LD& Nurse, ugh, I hope you're feeling okay!

My boss very wonderfully let me work from home today. :) I did everything that I needed to be in the office to do yesterday and today all my projects are things I can do on my sofa. Yay for that. I have a long commute and it's been the worst part of my day all week since the nausea really set in, so I'm glad I could avoid it. Plus, working from home meant that instead of getting up at 6, I could sleep till almost 9! That was incredible! :D

Tomorrow I have a family wedding to go to at 11 am, so I'm really hoping that the nausea stays away. I also have to figure out some bland excuse I can give in case anyone asks why I'm not drinking. "I'm not in the mood" might not cut it with my DH's cousins!

Happy1 I kind of have followed your story and I'm so excited for you! This time I'm sure you'll end up with a healthy baby!

I've been so stressed lately, all the baby drama, worrying about money, worrying that my friends won't be able to sell their house, and then yesterday another friend told me her husband has been abusing her. She asked me to go to court with her this morning to get a protection order against her husband. I had no idea anything was wrong, so that was really upsetting. Luckily everything went well this morning and if anything it made me bond a teensy bit with the idea of a baby because I felt it's a lot safer inside me than in this cold, hard world. ::sigh:: Tonight another friend is coming over and they just better not have any drama or I'm going to send them home ;) And then I have a wedding tomorrow too. I don't normally drink much so no one will be surprised or suspicious if I turn it down.

Cosmogirl: Definitely a big change there!

magrat: Sorry about all of your stresses. That is an awful lot to deal with, but hopefully things will start to turn around for all of your friends.

gymwidow: Hooray for working from home! That sounds wonderful. Hope the wedding goes well tomorrow. We were at dinner tonight with friends who kept trying to offer me wine. I blamed it on a long week and me being to exhausted to drink. Don't know how long that excuse will work.

L&D Nurse: Hope your lunch went OK.

Happy1: Congrats and welcome!

QOTD: Yes and no. Sometimes I feel like I do already have a bond, but then other times I don't. One of my best friends sent me a cute onsie and a bib from Baby Gap today (one says I *heart* Mommy and the other I *heart* Daddy). Seeing baby stuff in my house makes it seem more real. I've really bonded with the idea of being pregnant and having a baby, but want to stay cautious until my first u/s on Nov. 3.

Still no m/s, but my bbs are still really sore, I'm tired, and I'm hungry a lot. I seem to get full sooner when I eat, but an hour later I'm ready to eat again. I keep thinking that if the m/s is going to happen, it would be this week. I have been very emotional though. I cried watching the Biggest Loser and also had a meltdown last night b/c nothing sounded good to eat, I wanted to go out and DH didn't. It was stupid, but I blamed it on the hormones.

I have a new Question of the Day. When does everyone plan to share the news of their pregnancy with friends, extended family, etc. I don't know if I can wait until 12 weeks. I'm thinking after my u/s at 8 weeks we might start telling close friends. DH already wants to share the news, but I'm making him wait.

magrat I'm sorry to hear you've been so stressed.

QOTD 1 - Nope. Haven't bonded much yet with this baby. Last time, it happened as soon as I had my u/s at 12 weeks. I'm going into for my 1st appt on Oct 24th & I'm hoping they'll do an internal u/s to date my pregnancy. That might make it feel more real for me!

QOTD 2 - We've told only 5 people so far & will keep it pretty limited until I reach 12 weeks. I'm going to tell my closest friend this weekend.

still tired & queasy. blech. I gained 18lbs in my 1st trimester w/DS  & I'm glad to see that I don't seem to be on the same track this time!

Mystikal, thanks!

Cosmogirl, heck yeah! :D

GA GAL, I *heart* working from home. I wish I could do it every day! It would definitely make my dog happy!

MexicoBride, congrats! Welcome!!! I had absolutely no symptoms either, till nausea kicked in over the last week.

Daphne, well, yuck to the yucky feeling, but yay for not gaining so much so fast this time. There'll be plenty of time for that later! ;)

QOTD, we've told way more people than I ever wanted to tell right away. But after so long trying, we had let a bunch of people in on the fact that we were going through IF treatments. Sooo, we told basically all the people who knew about that = about a dozen or so friends. Plus a few people at each of our offices knows, and our immediate families. We're going to tell everyone else when we hit 13 weeks in December.

We had a really nice time at the wedding today. I felt queasy all through the ceremony, but once I got some real food in me at the cocktail hour, I felt a lot better. I stuck with ginger ale all day and no one said anything, so hopefully no one really paid attention and noticed.

On the way home we stopped by a close family friend's to tell them about the twins. These people are like second parents to us and the guy is actually an OB/GYN. I go to his practice, but see his partners - seeing him would just be too weird. I mean, I call him Dad for goodness' sake! Anyway, they're so excited for us. She's actually a twin herself, so she was so happy to hear that we'll have a set. And, I learned that I'll probably end up on modified bed rest after 24 weeks! He said that after that my daily commute (over an hour each way) and all the walking I do would be too much and I'll have to start working from home. I have to say, I am totally okay with that! I can do 90% of my job from here and I won't mind not having to spend almost three hours a day getting there and back. I'm going to wait a little longer and then will talk with my boss about it. Hopefully I can keep working for a while and won't have to go on STD for long.

I hope everyone else is having a wonderful weekend and feeling good! :)

Thanks for the welcome! :)

gymwidow It's almost like I kind of want more symptoms so it feels more real to me! I still feel completely normal. Maybe I should just be thankful I don't have any MS or anything yet! If I do get it soon I will prob regret saying I wanted more symptoms! It makes me feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who didn't have any symptoms at this stage in the pregnancy.

Tonight we were out with friends and it seems like all of the ones we haven't seen in a while ask the same question "so...is there a bun in the oven yet?" Of course we just say no, because we don't really want to be telling everyone yet. It's so hard though. Part of us really wants to tell everyone because we're so excited but then the other half wants to wait until we hit the 3 month mark. I think most of our friends are going to figure it out soon though. We have a wedding to go to on Nov 4th and they are going to know something is up when I'm not drinking and it's an open bar!

Do you girls know when they usually do the 1st ultrasound? I wonder if it just depends on your doctor? I can't wait to hear the heart beat for the first time! It's going to be so amazing!

WelcomeMexicobride!
I think we are due date buddy :D

QOTD We have told only the people we NEEDED to tell. Basically, my boss since I'll probably to stopped working since my job is hazardous to my pregnancy (was stopped last time too) and my school mate (3) with whom I have labs with. Right now, that is all. It will stay like that for a while too.

Nothing much going on. I started feeling the fatigue though, although it is no where near as bad as it was with my son. I'm sure I'll have another speach soon... I started having some gum and nose bled though, I didn't remember I had that last time until it started. Awww the joys of pregnancy!:p But that is all for now. As far as feeling queazy, I only do when I don't eat regularly. Hoping it will stay like that...and finally, I had a bit of nesting effect last night I guess where I flet the sudden urge to change the living room upside down. DH was extatic since he was trying to watch hockey:p

Have a great sunday ladies!:D

My ultrasound is tomorrow and I am so nervous! Last time my u/s measured 2 weeks behind and that was my first sign that we were going to loose the baby. This time I feel really confident that things are going well, I am approximately 10 times more nauseous this time and that has to count for something, no? :D But I am still getting a little nervous!

I usually ovulate around day 17 so I am really hoping the u/s measures 7 weeks! I would appreciate any thoughts and prayers you guys can muster tomorrow around 11am central time!!!

StacieLady - Good luck tomorrow! I will be sending you lots of good thoughts and prayers! Just stay positive!

As for me, still not feeling any new symptoms. I think being 5 weeks it might still be early. We'll see if this next week brings on any new symptoms! My doctor did tell me that the peak time to start feeling symptoms is 8 weeks but I guess everyone is just different right? Maybe I should just be glad I don't have any MS right now!

Wow! I hate not being able to get online during the weekend. I miss a lot.:(

MexicoBride Congrats and welcome!

StacieLady good luck! I'll be thinking of you today. Let us know how it goes.

This weekend, I worked on unpacking more of the million boxes we still have left. I swear I'm never going to finish moving in. I'm just too tired. I actually fell asleep with boxes in my lap sitting on my bed. DH was really impressed with all the progress I made. :p

QOTD: I was hoping we'd wait to tell people, but almost as soon as I told DH he was telling everyone. That made me pretty nervous, but hopefully everything will be fine. Oh! And my DS told DH's grandma, so MIL is definately going to find out soon. Actually I can't believe she doesn't already know. Oh, well... have a good Monday everyone.

Trust me, it is a good thing you are doing that right now...with my last pregnancy, we moved at me being 34 weeks. THAT was hell. Got DS at 38...
Good luck finishing up!!!:D

Mexicobride: I have to say that I'm not really stressed out about the other signs either. But the first sign of pg for me the first time was the sore bb, which I never had before. But not this time...weird. I'm sure this time will come too:p :p

My weekend? A little weird I have to say...
So here we are on a saturday night. DH is trying to watch hockey, and I'm just sitting there getting annoyed by EVERYTHING that is round me. Litterally, EVERYTHING. The volume on TV, the commentator, the guy that drives the puck, how the sofa is not in line with the coffee table, the little pile of dust that accumulated on the floor between the tv set and the wall...E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. And then, I realise that the TV is too close to the sofa. It has been like that for a year, but still, I never realised before I guess...

I got up, and decided that it was time to turn the whole living room upside down, and change it's setting. It is SATURDAY night at 10:30 PM, and we are moving the couch, and the tv set around. DH was NOT thrilled since he only wanted to watch his game peacefully, but I thought (and made it clear ) that this was of a major importance and should be done RIGHT NOW, don't ask me why though

So it is either early nesting effect, or I've officially gone coo coo http://www.thebabywearer.com/forum/images/smilies/bduh.gif

off to school before I start to paint the wall in the living room that has been bothering me for a while...

Well, I definitely have m/s. Not bad enough to be gagging or anything, but I definitely don't feel good and I have to make sure I keep eating because as soon as my stomach gets to empty I feel really bad and I can hardly eat. I have found that pineapple is easy for me to eat even when I'm sick. The crackers are harder because I don't like them and they're so dry. DH has been really good to me, I pretty much did nothing yesterday (I didn't even get dressed!) and he cleaned the kitchen and did some laundry and brought me food when I asked. Considering I wasn't entirely incapacitated, I really appreciated it. I just hope I don't wear him out when I've got 8 months to go!

The wedding Saturday was good, I wasn't sick at all which was a huge relief. It was the saddest wedding I'd ever been to - my aunt, the mother of the groom, died a year ago and there were a lot of reminders that she wasn't there. My cousin broke down on me and my mom during the dollar dance and it made me feel so bad :( Still, despite some sad moments everyone seemed to have a really good time, and the bride especially seemed ecstatic, she's been trying to get my cousin to marry her for years now :)

I called my doc's office this morning to see what the results were of the blood I had taken last week. The progesterone is excellent-way past where they figure it has to be. The problem may be in the betas. They didn't double. Not even close. They were at 69.5 on Wednesday and dropped to 62.5 when I had it taken on Friday. The doc wants me to go in this morning again to have it repeated. To be honest, I'm just sad right now. Not even stressed. Just sad. Sad that this maybe isn't a good sign...again. I know there's nothing I can do about it. What's a normal beta? Does it always have to double? I really hate this.

MexicoBride, oh, I know that feeling. I was almost hoping for m/s so I could "know" everything was okay. The basic queasies started around 5 weeks and the full-on nausea hit last week at 6 weeks. Now I hate it, but am still sort of glad it's here b/c I take it as a good sign. I had my first u/s way early b/c I'm with the RE. I think with a regular OB it might not be till 8 or so weeks?

Cosmogirl, lol to your sudden need to redecorate! That's great that your DH was helpful.

StacieLady, thinking of you! Can't wait to come back and hear the report!

Steve's Sweety, thanks!

Sarah, good work on the unpacking! Doing that sucks. It's good you can get it done now. I hope your MIL takes the news well and doesn't give you a hard time!

magrat, :( to m/s. I have such a hard time keeping a full stomach because I can hardly stomach eating food. I'm trying though, and am actually eating something healthy right now (grapes)! I think I'll be ordering Chinese for lunch, though. It just sounds good to me right now. I'm glad you had a good time at the wedding on Saturday. That's so sad about the groom's mom. I hope he had a good day and that he's really happy now.

Happy, many hugs and much love to you..... I'll be thinking of you. I hope they can get the results to you fast and that the news is good.

Yesterday I had a bit of a scare - a little bit of red spotting in the morning. Not a lot, but enough to totally freak me out. It was on the tp and then I put on a pantiliner and after 2 more bathroom checks there was barely any on that, but still a bit on the tp each time. But by lunchtime it was gone and I haven't seen a bit since. I had no cramping and I'm still feeling nauseated 80% of the time, so I'm hoping that all is okay and that we have no reason to worry. I'm emailing my RE just to let him know and am counting the hours again till our next doctor's visit on Wednesday.

QOTD - we're going to be surprised. DH feels really strongly about this and although I know I'll be going nuts not knowing what colors to buy, I'm okay with it. We're not bringing anything into the house for the babies before they're born anyway, so I'll just buy a couple of outfits in a few different colors for right away and then I can do accessorizing in our yellow-painted nursery later on! :)

StacieLady That's wonderful news! I'm so excited for you! Congrats!

I still have to wait two weeks from tomorrow for my first appointment. It's killing me having to wait so long. I think with DS I had to wait until 10wks before they would see me too.

So, Sunday I met this 17 year old girl who is pregnant. She's a friend of a friend and just moved to town because her parents kicked her out when they found out. I guess she is going to keep the baby. It just made me so sad. She is such a sweet girl, but she has a LOT of growing up to do.

The other thing that I have been thinking about constantly and why I want to have my appt soon... I had a c-sect with DS and I absolutely do not want to have another one. Anyone know anyone who had a vbac and how it went. Just looking for any kind of reasurance that I won't have to have a repeat.

MexicoBride'05

Happy1 - I'm thinking good thoughts for you and keeping my fingers crossed that your betas go back up. (((hugs)))

magrat - Sorry about the m/s. Hopefully it won't last to long for you!

gymwidow I know! I actually feel better now though b/c I talked to a friend today who had no m/s what so ever and she went on to have a healthy baby and another co-worker of mine who's wife is pregnant had a tiny bit of nausea and that's it. I guess everyone is different. I did feel VERY tired today at work and I'm totally bloated today!

Sarah6690 - I hear you about the waiting part! I wish we could just fast forward and get to our first ultrasound appointments! Not sure when I'll even get one. In Canada I think if everything is normal they don't usually do the first one until 16-20 weeks? I'm asking my doctor about that at my next appointment which is next week.

Nothing much new with me. I felt a little bit nauseous/gaggy this morning but it didn't last long. I was super tired at work today and all of a sudden today I'm bloated! Is that a symptom?! I asked my husband to take my 5 week belly shot and it looks like I'm already way past that mark b/c I'm so bloated! :o

We had an ultrasound at 5 wks 5 days and saw an emryo in the sac which was great news for us, we go back at 7 wks 1 day this Friday to hopefully see a heartbeat and be in better shape this pregnancy.

So on top of awful morning sickness which began this weekend I have come down with a wicked cold (I never get sick) and the combination is awful.

Stacie, that's AWESOME! I'm so happy for you!

Sarah, that's so sad about that young girl. My best friend's 20-year-old SIL just had a baby (her boyfriend is not in the picture) and the kid has Down's Syndrome and just had to have emergency brain surgery. She has no idea how she's going to take care of that kid but she's determined to keep her. The whole thing is so sad. Good news, though - I have a friend who had a successful VBAC. I hope you get yours, too!

MexicoBride, one of my DH's coworkers is 16w pg and she said she never really had m/s. My mom said she didn't have any with my brother (but I made her sick every day, hehe). So it's definitely possible! I hope you don't get any at all!

elissa, congrats and welcome! That's awesome! I'm glad you've joined our group.

almostthere, so good to see you in here! I'm looking forward to sharing the next 8 months with you!

My mom sent me her wristband thingies that are supposed to help with nausea and so far they seem to be working. My commute to work wasn't as bad as it had been, although I still felt a little queasy, but now that I'm in my office I feel a lot better. I'm even eating something, which I usually can't face doing until I've been here at least an hour or so!

My RE emailed me back about the spotting I had on Sunday and said he didn't think we should worry at all. We're not really, too much at least. I know it's somewhat normal and with my history of spotting (a lot!) I'm not totally freaked out. It's just normal for me. I can't wait for our next appointment tomorrow, though. I'm actually going to be sad when the RE releases me b/c then I won't get weekly visits with my little BB Pellets (the size the book said they are this week)!

Congrats and welcome Elissa and Almostthere!

Mexicobride I'm with you on looking further along than you are. My excuse is since this is number 2, my body is already streched out and I'm going to be in maternity clothes a lot sooner than I hoped.

Gymwidow I'm glad that your friend had a successful VBAC. Everytime I hear that someone else had one, it gives me a little more hope. That's the first thing I'm going to talk to my doctor about. I know there are a lot out there who won't even try one. If that's the case, I may switch doctors. It just seems like they are doing way too many c-sections anymore. Out of the last three people I know that had babies, they were all c-sect. I'm glad that your spotting doesn't seem to be a big deal. It sounds like everything will be fine.

I got the Diary of a Mad Mom to Be yesterday. I couldn't put it down, it was so stinking funny. I read the Mad Bride to Be while planning our wedding and loved it. I think with my DS I read all the informative books. Now I'm just skimming those and going for some with more humor. m/s seems to be letting up just a little bit today. I think that if I eat something in the morning after I get to work it's a little better. My problem is that I'm always thirsty and not hungry. So I get all that liquid in my stomach with nothing to soak it up and it makes me sick.

magrat
10-24-2006, 07:28 AM
I just read this about morning sickness:

Usually, morning sickness will start between the fourth and sixth week of pregnancy and, unfortunately, will continue for most of your first trimester. While some women are lucky enough to have their morning sickness subside as early as the 12th week, generally, morning sickness stops between the 14th and 16th week of pregnancy.

How am I going to make it? It's not like it comes and goes, I am sick about 90% of the time. The only relief is right after I eat something, and only for a very short while. In the morning, even eating doesn't help. I spend my entire day thinking about what to eat that doesn't sound gross (fortunately I haven't had much of a problem with food aversions apart from nothing sounding or tasting good) and nibbling. That's really hard to do at work. If I were just sick in the mornings I could handle that, but it just never goes away.

Sorry it was such a short visit guys but I got the bloodwork results back from the doc yesterday and the HCG levels had dropped down to 9. I started bleeding this morning. :( The doc says it was a "Blighted Ovum" but that still doesn't make it easy to take. That's 3 angel babies now. My DH and I discussed it last night and we're done with TTC. It's onto adoption for us now. We just can't take this anymore.

elissa and almostthere Welcome to the group & congratulations!

Sarah yeah, the c-section rates are out of control! it doesn't help that most women automatically want repeat c's. I had a section w/DS & would love to have a vbac. DS was 9lbs, 10oz, so i'm concerned about size, but i'm going to take it week by week at the end.

gymwidow Keep us posted about your appt tom. I cant wait to hear about your little bb's! :) I wear those wrist bands 24/7. blech.

I had my appt today. No u/s, but from my dr's exam, she guesstimated that I'm "no more" than 8 weeks along & put my due date as June 1st . I'm wondering if I should join the May ladies, just in case I go a little early... I'm going back in November for the new screening they're doing for Down Syndrome, et al. I haven't set the date, but they're going to "date" my pregnancy through that scan (I'll be almost 11 weeks by then)

I just had to share the fact that my DS is acting just like his daddy. This morning I was in the bathroom puking. He was in the next room watching cartoons and I know he could hear me. Instead of asking if I was okay or what I was doing, he was trying to carry on a conversation with me. And he was getting MAD that I wasn't answering his questions. Jeez, a little compassion in my house would be nice. It was still pretty funny though.

Sarah, C-Sections do seem to be everywhere. I think for every woman I know who had a vaginal delivery, I know at least one other who had a c/s. I'm also going to be discussing this with my OB. I know a lot of twins end up with a c/s, but I really want to try for a vaginal delivery. I just read about that book somewhere and now I'll definitely have to check it out! I hope your men start giving you a little sympathy soon!

magrat, I am so sorry you're feeling so awful! It's so hard to come up with something to eat when everything sounds so gross. The only thing I've consistently been able to stomach is pepperoni pizza. Weird, huh? I'm usually a cookies and cake kind of girl, but the thought of having a cookie right now disgusts me. Oh, well. You definitely should get these wristbands. They are AMAZING!

daphne, I hope you'll stick around! I'll probably end up being a May mommy, too, but I already feel a part of this group and want to stay with you guys.

MexicoBride, one can hope! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it passes you by! :) I hope your blood test went well today.

Stacie, I am so happy for you! I can imagine some of the relief you must be feeling and I'm so glad that you're excited now and enjoying it! :D

elissa, that sucks to have to wait that long! It seems like some doctors do wait forever. Did you ask why she doesn't see you sooner?

We had more good news this morning. The babies are doing great! Baby A is measuring 11mm and has a h/b of 148 bpm. Baby B's h/b is 142 bpm (I didn't catch what it's measurement was, but I'm assuming about the same). I had gotten really nervous since last night that something would have gone wrong, but now I'm back to just so excited!

I cannot say enough how awesome these wristbands are. I felt such a difference yesterday while wearing them. I still felt a little uneasy/queasy, but nowhere near the level of nausea that I had previously. I even had an appetite for much of the day! I highly recommend that everyone feeling icky go out and get a pair fast!

QOTD, this is a personal one. My DH is so far insisting on calling the babies Frick and Frack. This simply cannot continue! So, I need suggestions for nicknames (Baby A and Baby B just seem so boring). Any ideas? TIA!!! :D

gymwidow I am normally a big cake person but that doesn't sound good at all, sweets in general don't sound appealing (except fruit, which really hits the spot). I actually thought of pizza myself yesterday, but only the cheap cardboardy kind, not from a pizza place which sounds too greasy. I'm highly suspicious of remedies like sea bands, but at this point I'm ready to try anything. For your QOTD I don't have many suggestions (I don't really like cutesy names for unborn babies) but the only thing that came to mind was Thing 1 and Thing 2 (from the Cat in the Hat).

Sarah6690 I know hmbay had a successful VBAC. I find the c-section rate in this country really disturbing, especially since so many women insist theirs were really necessary, which can't possibly be true in very many cases. It shows that either their doctors aren't competant or they're lying to their patients. That's why I'm using midwives that came highly recommended on the local board at mothering.com. We don't have any free-standing birth centers here, which is what I would choose if we did, but since I don't feel my house would make a very comfortable setting for giving birth, I'm choosing the most natural-friendly hospital I can (coincidentally the same hospital where I was born). For you to have a succesful VBAC, I think the most important decision you'll make is in your care-giver. Definitely shop around and find VBAC message boards where they discuss local providers (I bet MollyB could give you some resources.)

I ate a whole box of Annie's mac & cheese yesterday without a problem. I bought stem ginger yesterday and tried chewing on some of that but it didn't help. I think the stomach-soothing ginger and lemon tea I bought might actually make things worse for me (but if anyone wants to try it I'd be happy to send you a couple bags in an envelope). Grapes work great, but only if I'm not too sick to begin with. I'm still eating a bagel every morning (slooooowly) and by the time I'm done I usually feel a lot better. Tomorrow I'm going to try eating half a bagel before I even leave home. Blue Bunny real fruit (strawberry) popsicles are fabulous.

Hi Girls,

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. I feel like I've missed alot, so I'm going to try my best to catch up with SO's.

gymwidow: So happy that your babies are doing well. I'm not sure about names, but I bet you'll come up with something crative. My DH keeps calling our baby Little Raisin...I have no idea where it came from, but I do not like it!

elissa: Sorry you can't get in until 10 weeks. I know that is frustruating when you are so excited for your first apt.

Sarah6690: Sorry your DH and DS are being insensitive to your m/s. Hopefully it will get better soon.

StacieLady: I'm so happy that everything looked good at your u/s. Mine is next week and I can't wait!

MexicoBride'05: Good luck with the b/w tomorrow.

daphne: If you decide to join the May thread...you'll have to keep us posted. Sooner is better for you to meet your baby, right!

Happy1: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, but hope your adoption process goes smoothly. You'll have to keep us updated.

almostthere: Congrats and welcome...so happy to see you here!

Sarah6690: I'll have to check out that book...seems like it would be funny. Glad your m/s is getting a little better.

magrat: I'm sure the m/s feels awful, but just try to think about the fact that your baby must be growing the way it should and hopefully it will pass quickly!

I've felt a little queasy the past few mornings, but feel better after eating something. I'm feeling very hungry and not wanting anything but salty foods with substance...I have to force myself to eat yogurt, fresh veggies, etc. I'm also still really tired, even more so than last week. I can't wait for the u/s next Friday!

I went to the doctor and everything was perfect! I was measuring 7w 3d with a heartrate of 142! I can tell you guys how excited I am! I am giddy!

Awww that is amazing news!
And what a cute US pics! Glad that everything is great for you, and that bean is all well!!!

I still have to wait two weeks from tomorrow for my first appointment. It's killing me having to wait so long. I think with DS I had to wait until 10wks before they would see me too.
.
You lucky gal! My first appointment is December 12th! I get my first US on december 14th! NOTHING before that:( It is SOOOO long!

It sure is! I'm so bloated too, I have to undo my jeans button when I drive lol
I hear you on the waiting part for an US. It is so far away!

My RE emailed me back about the spotting I had on Sunday and said he didn't think we should worry at all.

That is amazing news! Hope things are going for the best for those twins!!!:D

B]elissa,[/B] COngrats mama!!!:D Welcome!
almostthere, Welcome to you too! The more the merrier! COngrats to you as well!!!

I really loved those books too! I wish I had something else to read this time...I miss being able to read a good book about pregnancy.

Sorry it was such a short visit guys but I got the bloodwork results back from the doc yesterday and the HCG levels had dropped down to 9. I started bleeding this morning. The doc says it was a "Blighted Ovum" but that still doesn't make it easy to take. That's 3 angel babies now. My DH and I discussed it last night and we're done with TTC. It's onto adoption for us now. We just can't take this anymore.

My best to you guys and I wish you all a very happy and healthy 9 months.

Nikki

I'm SO sorry for your loss! My thoughts are with you! I hope adoption is the right solution for you guys, and that your new one will be healthy and happy! You are truly an amazing family!

due date as June 1st . I'm wondering if I should join the May ladies, just in case I go a little early...
I think it is a good idea that you go there as well. With my first, I ended up giving birth the month before, and I was really far away with the moms at the end of the month KWIM? I'll surely join the July mom as well because I'm almost sure that I'll have this baby in July...for some reason!

So, I called the doctor yesterday and she doesn't see people until around week 10. Is this weird to any of you? I was thinking that they'd at least have you come in to confirm everything, but I don't have my first appointment until November 28th???

As I said earlier, nothing for me until december! Not even a doctor's exam! SOOOO long!

Hi Girls,
Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. I feel like I've missed alot, so I'm going to try my best to catch up with SO's.

Glad to see you back!

Me: it is pretty busy over here. I'm getting REALLY tired, and have the worst lower back pain. I feel a little queasy in the morning, but nothing really bad. Granted, I'm only 5 weeks, I'm expecting for the serious M/S to be starting nest week... Still no breat pain though, I don't get that one at all.
The tiredness really is the worst right now, I could just lie on the floor, and I would fall asleep instently. :p
Otherwise not much, except i'm trying to find a sneaky way to get a U/S before december so I can announce this pregnancy (I don't want to do it before then...) i'm sure I'll find a way:p
Have a good night ladies!

elissa With my 1st, I didn't see my midwife until I was 12 weeks along. It was *torture*! I hope the time flies for you!

gymwidow Hooray for good baby news! No good baby name suggestions, but I'm not all that creative (I'm not sure that frick and frack are keeper names, though!

magrat Why are you skeptical about the wrist bands? They're worth a shot, esp since accupressure has a pretty good rap!

GAgal I'm all about the salty, not-so-healthy foods. ah well, whatever it takes to get through the 1st trimester!

cosmogirl December?? eek! you'll have to find a sneaky way to get in before Thanksgiving - fingers crossed for you!

I'm not defecting to the May group - I just want to get to know them in case I go early. You June ladies are my group!

I'm hanging in there - still queasy & tired. Hopefully only 4 more weeks of it til the 2nd trimester!!

Hi fellow June Mommies!

Nothing much new with me, I have been busy with houseguests and work. I finally have a couple of days off and I am going to sleep, sleep, sleep! I think I am feeling a little better m/s-wise, thanks to the B6. And I swear I am starting to get a pooch. I got the results from my bloodwork yesterday and everything was great! I never knew my blood type, so it is cool to know that now. DH is out of town this week and he comes back just in time for my appt next week! I will get a pap and some other lovely prodding, I'm sure. Ah, the joys of pregnancy!

Sorry, no time for replies today. We have a big customer coming in to work today and I'm trying to get everything ready. Just wanted to pop in and say good morning. Hope everyone is doing well today. I plan on going to get those bands today. I'm hoping that they work. I'm tired of feeling so icky all day.

10-26-2006, 07:57 AM
magrat, oh, definitely go and get the sea bands. I was a little skeptical - I thought they were for motion sickness, and it's not like I'm out on a boat every day or anything. But seriously, it's like night and day b/w how I felt last week and how I feel now. I actually have an appetite and I'm no longer focusing more on not throwing up than on getting my work done during the day. I saw Thing 1 and Thing 2 onesies recently that I thought were adorable! That's a cute suggestion. I just wanted something that was more than just Baby A and Baby B, but I don't want to refer to them by the names we've chosen (I'm too superstitious, plus we aren't going to find out if they're boys or girls).

GA GAL, aw, Little Raisin. That's cute. :) I hope your queasiness doesn't get any worse!

Stacie, that is so cool! Thanks for sharing!

Cosmogirl, that tiredness sucks. Twice this week I've actually closed my office door, put my head down on my desk, and taken a short nap! I've been trying to get to bed earlier at night and it's definitely been helping. I hope I can keep that up.

daphne, thanks! I think I'm going to follow along with you and start reading along with the May moms. It will definitely be good to know them in case I become one!

L&D Nurse, I'm glad the B6 is helping. I hope you get a chance to get some rest now! I realized yesterday that I wasn't even making an attempt to suck in my belly anymore. I know it's way early, but already I feel like I *look* pregnant. Yay for colder weather so I can wear sweaters and hide it a bit! :p

Sarah, I hope you have a great day!

My best friend suggested Abbott and Costello, so I think that's what we might start calling them. For now, it's just "the babies." But once they're developing more and we're following along with them more individually, then we'll probably use those names.

I got the Dr. Luke book on having multiples yesterday and am eagerly reading through it. I'm just starting the nutrition section now, but I've heard that her recommendations are daunting - 3000+ calories a day! Since I've been feeling better the last couple of days I've been doing better about eating and today I remembered to bring a bag o' snacks to the office with me. It just feels so weird to me to eat eat eat w/o worrying about calories and points, etc. I did WW for so long and lost a lot of weight on it and I'm not used to *trying* to gain! Oh, well, it's for the babies. My goal is going to be to get them to 6lbs each and hopefully not deliver before 38 weeks. I'm going to talk with my OB about this at my first regular appointment on November 10.

My morning sickness is much much better. I feel like I've figured out how to manage it. I was so miserable earlier this week and now I feel almost normal as long as I keep eating. It almost makes me worry that I feel so much better because that can be a bad sign, but I'm not going to look this gift horse in the mouth :) Plus I still get a little twinge of nausea if I'm not careful, and my eating habits are bizarre. Normally I love eating and clean my plate, now I eat really slow and usually can't eat it all. And some things are just so gross - like vegetables. Especially sweet corn, bleah. Normally I love my veggies. I think I shook DH's world to it's foundations the other day when I picked the green peppers out of my lasagna.

Finally had one of those super-vivid preggo dreams. I dreamt that DH confessed to having 4 children with another woman. After learning that he had the first one when he was 20 (we were already dating and he wanted to be more serious than I did at that point) I flipped out and remember vividly screaming and crying and calling him and the woman names and...well, flipping out :) Usually when I dream that DH did something bad or annoying I'm mad at him when I wake up, but this one was just way too outrageous to take seriously even a second after waking. DH didn't think it was as funny as I did though :p

Sarah6690 sorry you are feeling so yucky - I cannot stop throwing ip and my 3 year old keep asking why do you "gagging noice" all th time - its tough to explain

gymwidow glad those babies are good, we were released from our RE today and I am said not to get to see the baby again for several weeks too

daphne I am due June 14 but kow they want to section me early for some uterine complications I have so I may not be far behind you at the beginning of June

Sorry if I missed anyone I am not great with shout outs, We had our ultrasound today and saw a heartbeat:D it was so great after not seeing anyting so many times we both felt so relieved. I measured perfectly on tragte at 7wk 1 day and they realesed me to go back to my OB/GYN so I have my first appoitnment with him on Nov 8. They wanted me to see the nurse practitioner first but I said after all that I have been thorugh I want to see the docter!

So I am so sick, I cannot keep anything done including liquad or food and am throwing up anywhere from 4-10 x a day so they called me in some Zofran. I don't want to take anything but at this point cannot function and have been losing weight. While I was sick with my DD nothing like this. I musts ay while I am grateful to be here its awful.

magrat, I'm so glad you're feeling better! It's such a huge difference. LOL to your dream. Hopefully DH will find the humor in it! :)

almostthere, you poor thing! I hope the drugs do the job. That's so awesome that you saw the heartbeat! I'm really happy for you! Are you getting another u/s at your OB appt? Mine doesn't want to do one since I've already had a bunch, but I think I'll get all panicky unless I can see the babies again to confirm they're still okay. I have a friend who's OB only does 2 u/s total during pregnancy - I don't know how she manages with that!

I'm not feeling as great today as I have been all week. I've been eating whatever I can stomach - Doritos and ginger ale, frozen pizza, and now a pop tart. Not the most nutritious, but so far it's staying down.

I've also had an upsetting day at work. Since I found out last weekend that I'll likely have to go on some form of bedrest by mid-February, I've been looking into what my options are here at work. I found out today that my office only offers the minimum state-mandated amount of STD = $170/week. I have a long term disability policy that's great, but in order to get that to kick in, I have to first be on STD for 90 days. So for the first 90 days, I'll only be brining in $170 a week. That means that DH and I will have to find about $12,000 to make up the difference in my salary for the entire 90 day period. :( Not quite sure where we'll find that! We're going to talk about it over the weekend and do a little brainstorming, and then put together a proposal I can give my bosses. My company doesn't have any kind of leave policy or maternity policy, so all of this is going to be brand new, created just for me. I've been gathering info from friends as to what their jobs offered and I'm going to submit what I want, and then hope that my company will be fair and work with me on it.

I'm so not in the mood to work any more today. I think I'm going to browse the net for nursery decor options. And then go home and veg on the sofa! :)

QOTD Flu shots?... I turned down the offer to get one. I know they are supposedly okay, but I just wasn't up for it. I am trying to be overly cautious. Plus, I already feel kind of crappy, and I didn't want to take the chance that the shot might make me feel any worse! Especially since I wouldn't want to take any thing to make myself feel better. I am sure that is not the best decision, but I am sticking to it! (plus I have already taken my TB test this week and I figure that is just about enough for me!)

gymwidow: Sorry you aren't feeling so hot. Hopefully resting this weekend will help. The news about your job just stinks. Hopefully the company will be able to work out some sort of good maternity policy for you. Also, 3000 does sound like a lot, but I guess it is going to help your babies grow!

almostthere: Hope your medicine helps and I'm sorry you are feeling so bad, but hooray for the heartbeat!!!

QOTD~ Yes, I will be getting a flu shot. Since I'm a nurse and work in a hospital, chances are good I will be exposed to the flu, so I want to do everything I can to avoid getting the flu and all that comes with it (fever, body aches, etc.). My OB recommends that all pregnant women get one.

It was great getting my hair cut today. It will be especially nice in the morning when I'm getting ready for work and feeling nauseated, just wash and go!

I bought some of those sea-sickness bands today. I put them on immediatedly, but I can't really tell a difference. For those of you who use them, how long did it take for you to feel better?

daphne
10-27-2006, 03:13 PM
L&D Nurse Are you waiting until your 2nd trimester? I would get one if it was available then, but I'm skeptical about there being any left at the end of November. The seasickness bands take awhile to work....I'm not sure how long, but I just know that after awhile I'll notice that I'm feeling better. It's tough for me to get them on exactly right, so I'm always adjusting them, too...

I've never gotten one before and like you I'm kind of wary about them. I'm not in a high risk group like a teacher or nurse, so I think it would be safer not to get it. I don't know my midwife's policy, but I would be very surprised if she recommended it.

gymwidow That's such a bummer about your short term disability pay. I'm worried about money myself as I plan to quit when the baby comes, and we're going to have to adjust to our new income level. We've been aggressively paying off debt and the big ones will all be done by nine months if we're careful, but we won't have much in the way of savings. I didn't really expect to get pregnant so fast so I thought we'd have a bit more time to save than we do.

Hi, everyone! As far as flu shots, I don't think I'm getting one. Like magrat, I'm not in a high-risk job or anything plus I'm in Florida, so it doesn't feel like cold/flu weather. As a side note, everyone probably already knows this, but while flu shots are OK for preggos, Flu Mist has not been approved. Hopefully, anyone who would be administering it would know that, but just in case. :)

Yeah, I've had the flu shot a few times, including during my 3rd trimester w/DS, w/no adverse reaction. I would get it this season, as well, since DS seems to bring home *every* bug in the book, but I'm just concerned that it's so recent since they've approved the flu shot during the 1st trimester, kwim?

Welcome micd!

Quick post...
I had some really really bad pelvic pains yesterday. I had to end up at the ER, and spend most of my day there, not being allowed to eat since they thought I was having an appendicitis. You can imagine my mood after 7 hours of waiting/exams/US and all. I was REALLY hungry and REALLY exhasuted. (Lesson that the doctor has learn yesterday, never forbid to a hungry pregnant lady to eat...)

I did get an US. No heartbeat, but the doc wasn,t really stressed out about it. She told me that it should appear within the next day, so she wasn,t really expecting to see one. There is a sac within the gestational sac though, and it mesures RIGHT on time, 5w4d yesterday. So I think, and hope that things should be fine. They also mesured my betas, it was over 10 000, which is really good. So crossing fingers.
Still a bit in pain today, I'm suppose to be resting all day.
Have a good one:D

Cosmogirl~ I hope you are feeling better. Did they ever figure out what was causing the pain?
They think it is just some bad stretching of my uterine ligs. I've been holding DS a lot, and realised today that the day before the pain really started (well, it started at night, friday) I was with him the whole day and he was grumpy, so I carried him around a lot. I tried to get something heavy today, and started to feel the pain again...
They didn't see squat on the US, so another thing that is making me think that this could be it...

Since you are a L&D nurse :p what is the earliest day you can see a HB on scan? Doc never told me finally. I wish I would have seen it, it would have made me feel TONS better :p

But, in my own experience, I went for an u/s at my first OB appt, and the gestational sac measured 5w3d, there was a yolk sac, but no h/b. That was a Wednesday. I went back the following Monday (5 days later) for another u/s and measured 6w0d and saw/heard a h/b. You probably just missed it by a couple of days. If you think about it, the babies are so small at that point (think a grain of rice), even if the heart was beating, the u/s probably wouldn't be able to pick it up. Your betas are great, so try to stay positive and take care of yourself!

I'm back from Italy! There's no way I'll be able to catch up on all the posts so welcome to all the new moms!

Italy was good but unfortunately m/s came while I was over there. I bought some medicine that was written in Italian from their pharmacy. I can make out the words 'pregnant, nausea, difficult digestion' so I do know it's for the right purpose. :) Has anyone discovered the magical way to keep this under control? I've tried quite a bit of things and nothing has completely helped. And what's worse is that I got so tired of eatting pasta and pizza that it made me nauseous just looking at that food. I know.. I'm in the wrong country for it, so I made my husband take me to Hard Rock and McDonald's several times.

I also have had a cold for a week so on top of it all I feel like crap. I've taken Sudafed, Tylenol Cold, and Benedryl but nothing has helped. I'm about to go to the doctor to see if I can get something else.

I also asked my hubby to massage my feet. I told him how one of you said your husband was going to do that every day you are pregnant. He told me to go find this other guy and have him rub my feet.

Ok, gotta go rest again. Please let me know if you have the magical secret to m/s and overcoming a cold.

Welcome home, risa00! Sorry, I haven't found the silver bullet for m/s, but a couple of things I have tried are helping: Vitamin B6 (100 mg twice a day), Seabands (the pressure point bands that go around your wrists and are supposed to help with m/s and seasickness), eating crackers in the morning before getting out of bed, eating every 2-3 hours, and trying to stay hydrated. FWIW, I used to LOVE pasta and usually ate it every day before becoming pg, now it makes me gag to think about it. Same with mozzerella chesse - ugh  I wouldn't have survived very long in Italy!! I haven't had a cold yet (knock on wood) but my OB doesn't approve anything but Tylenol for the first 12 weeks, so I'm not much help there. Good luck, I hope you feel better!

GA GAL, thanks, it's a sucky situation and I just really hope that we can find a good solution. Getting a lot of rest did help; I wish I could find a way to sleep 9 hours every night!

L&D Nurse, I'm glad the haircut was a good one! I felt a difference the first day I wore the Sea Bands. It usually takes a little while for them to kick in, but I'm definitely not as nauseous when I wear them.

daphne, thanks!

magrat, figuring out the money thing is always tough! Our savings aren't as big as we wanted and they won't get us far. We're working on a new budget and brainstorming ways to come up with more cash.

em1126, thanks for sharing that. I've never heard of flu mist before and wouldn't have known!

micd, welcome!!!

Cosmogirl, how horrible. I hope you're feeling better now. Definitely no worries about the h/b. My doc told me at 6w that we'd be lucky to hear it then. I'm sure you'll hear it the next time!

risa, welcome home! I'm glad you had a good time but sorry you had to suffer thru some m/s and a cold while you were there! LOL to your DH's foot rub comment - that was my DH who promised to do that and so far every night I ask for one he's complied. You come on over and enjoy one - tell your DH I said so! ;) I've been wearing the Sea Bands for a week now and I think they've really helped with my nausea. Yesterday I tried to get away with NOT wearing them and felt sick halfway through the morning, but after putting them on again I felt much better.

We had a pretty good weekend. I got a lot of sleep, which made me feel so much better, and we relaxed a bit. I'm hoping for another quiet week at work. And that's about it! :)

risa00 welcome back - the food thing is hard I usually LOVE anything sweet but can barely eat anything and the last thing I want is sweets - they make me the sickest of all.

Cosmogirl I am sorry about your scare, with my first I was at the ER around 14 weeks for similar pain. Just to let you know at my 5wk 5day US there was a sac and embryo but no HB - when we went in at 7 weeks there it was.

I am not so good with the shoutouts, but thank you to everyone for the warm wishes on seeing the HB. This sickness thing has been awful, I cannot stop throwing up, the mornings are okay but by about 2 pm I am done and start throwing everything up, I cannot drink anything without it coming up and am eating maybe a cup or two worth of food a day. I tried the zofran but still threw up a ton and would rathe rnot take it if it is not going to help - ugg I just hope this lets up soon.

Hope everyone has a good day

micd Welcome! If you know when you O'd, try this due date calculator (http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/eddc.htm). Just put in the date you O'd and press calculate.

Cosmogirl I can't imagine being told not to eat anything for 7 hours at the moment, I would have been in such a foul mood, nauseaus and in pain. I need to eat like every 2 hours or I feel like crap, so 7 hours would have been a lifetime! I wouldn't have followed their instructions (unless I had a fever, which would make the appendix thing slightly more likely). Glad it wasn't anything serious anyway!

risa00 Sorry the ms and cold got in the way of you having the best time possible. The only thing that works for my ms is to eat very frequently. If I wait until I'm really hungry or nauseaus, it's too late. It took me a few days to really accept how often I needed to eat to feel good, but now that I've got the hang of it I'm doing much better. As far as the cold...midwife suggests lemonjuice in hot water. She doesn't recommend any medicines at all if you can possibly avoid it. Actually, I just remembered something else. Someone at work has been sick for a while and she discovered Emergen-C (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=78610&catid=47213&trx=PLST-0-SEARCH&trxp1=47213&trxp2=78610&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-SEARCH). I thought it sounded perfect for MS, but it's good for colds too. It's a drink mix that has lots of cold fighting vitamins, and a lot of B6 which is good for MS. It's effervescent as well, which can help settle your stomach. You can get it at Target.

Saturday I took it really easy and then had a horrible night. I woke up around 3 starving, nauseaus, stomach-achey and worrying and couldn't sleep or eat. I was up a couple hours trying to choke down some food before finally going back to bed and miraculously falling asleep. Sunday I decided I had better help out DH a little more and got some stuff done. I did some laundry, cleaned the kitchen, and even raked some leaves. We also went to the apple orchard and had friends over to bring us their chest freezer which almost didn't go down the steps, and for a big roast meal. I was *exhausted* by 10pm (especially because of the time change) and got a decent night's sleep last night.

I promise after this I'll be better with replies. :o

micd Congrats and Welcome!!!

We had a busy weekend that wasn't very much fun. Friday we were trying to help out some friends of friends. They had been here for a funeral and their car broke down. They had been stuck here for a week. They are VERY young with 2 young kids and had NO money. Well DH was fixing their car for free. He ended up not being able to get it done Friday night, so we let them stay the night. They had run out of diapers and formula so I went to the store and bought them some. I was informed when I got back that it wasn't the kind she usually bought, but she guessed she would try it. They were the most ungrateful people I have ever met. Not one single thank you for anything. Not to mention the fact that DH also gave them money for gas to get home (which we found out that they didn't even use for gas). Anyway, that's the short version... It just really upset me that we were trying to be nice and they were so rude.

Anyway, I hope everyone else had a good weekend. DS had a Halloween parade at school today. It was so cute. We carved pumpkins last night and he's all ready to go trick-or-treating tomorrow.

Sorry I haven't been great about posting. My DD and I went to my parents last week to visit. It was a nice trip to relax and they were more than happy to spend time with the grand-daughter and let me sleep or read magazines! We did tell them the big news. They were pretty excited. This weekend we visit the ILs so we'll tell them when we get there.

Yesterday was my big appt (finally!). Everything looks great. There is such a relief when you actually see that heartbeat. Measuring right on track, heartbeat 146 bpm.
I'm pretty tired and must keep eating to avoid the nausea.

I've miss a couple QOTD, but i did ask about the flu shot yesterday. Dr said to definitely wait until I'm definitely in my 2nd trimester so I can schedule it after my next appt (Nov. 28).

DnJ2002--Sounds like you had a nice relaxing weekend! That's great that everything went well at your appt. too. It is a big relief, isn't it? :-)

L&D Nurse (and everyone else)--Happy Halloween to you, too!

Sarah6690--Sorry to hear about your crappy weekend. Rude people have to be one of the most annoying things ever. It sounds like you're all set for Halloween, though. I can't wait to have a DD or DS to dress up for Halloween next year!

Well, I had my first "official" doctor appt. yesterday, too, and everything looks good. I have US pictures to post (so exciting!), but I've never posted pictures before so I have to review the procedure before I do it. I was surprised at how little information the doctor gave us. He asked a couple times if we had any questions (we did have a few, which he answered), but he didn't say anything about how much weight to gain, what foods to eat/not eat, or anything like that. I guess that just illustrates that I need to be assertive and ask questions if I have them. Overall, not a bad experience, maybe just a little different than what I expected. The US was definitely the best part. The US tech recommended that we have a Level II ultrasound at 19-20 weeks b/c I have a long family history of cleft palate & lip (my mom and sister both have them). So, I don't feel too worried about that right now, but we'll see how I am closer to the actual US.

almostthere, I am so sorry you're still so sick. Give the Zofran a couple more tries. It might just be that your body needs a chance to really absorb it before it starts to work. Good luck!!!

magrat, wow, you got a lot done on Sunday! I hope you were able to get another good night's sleep last night. It makes such a huge difference, doesn't it?

Sarah, what a PITA! That's so obnoxious. You're an amazing person for putting up with all of that. I hope your DS has a great time today!!!

L&D Nurse, right back at ya!

DnJ, I'm glad your parents are excited! I hope your ILs give you a similar reaction. Yay for hearing the h/b! :)

em1126, woohoo! Posting pics is easy. Upload them to photobucket and the site gives you the URL to paste into your post. At the top of the post reply box is a little box you can click to insert an image. Just paste the URL there and it'll appear. I hope that made sense! I'm sorry your doc wasn't as forthcoming with info, but I hope that he'll be good for answering any questions you have along the way.

Well, my little ones seem to be really wanting to reassure me that they're there and growing. My nausea today is the worst it's ever been. I think it's because I didn't really eat much breakfast before I left the house (I could only stomach a couple of bites of my english muffin before it made me feel icky). So I had to suffer through my hourlong commute on an empty stomach and it's like I haven't been able to catch up since. Bleurgh. I'm eating (more) Saltines now - I think after this is over I will never be able to look at a Saltine again w/o feeling nauseous.

Tomorrow's our last RE appointment and I can't wait to see the babies again! :D

The nausea and the stomach aches are gone, but now I appear to have heartburn (at least that's what I think it is - it's a new experience). Don't get me wrong, it's far preferable to nausea, but it's not great either. Anyone know specially what medicines are safe for pregnancy? I don't think I need to take anything just yet, but I'd like to know in case it gets worse. I really can't figure out why some women love being pregnant...

magrat, I think I remember reading somewhere that Tums are okay. But you might want to google that or check with the doc.

My babies LURVE pizza. One slice and I feel almost human again. :)
