I need some good shampoo recommendations.
I have a black lab with a slight dandruff problem.
She's indoors 90% of the time, and goes outside for about 2 hours a day.
We bathe her about every other week. However, she usually gets smelly before her next bath. The vet doesn't want us to bathe her more than 2x a month (unless abs. necessary) so not to aggravate her skin.
We've tried dry shampoos/sprays, and they don't do anything.
So. . . . what shampoo do you recommend? Something that smells good and really gets that "dog" smell off her!! Please post where you bought it.
Thanks so much!!!
We use shampoos by Earthbath. www.earthbath.com Between baths, we use moist grooming wipes. Those seem to just work on the fur and not get down to the skin.
I just bought some from PetEdge called iKaria (Renew), I am pretty sure it said something about dandruff. I haven't used it yet, but you should check it out.

I have two different shampoos that I alternate on Lucy. One is Baby Dog by Crazy pet. I love how soft it makes her coat and it smells like baby powder. LOL
The other shampoo that I love is Buddy Wash by Cloud Star. It's fabulous! The ingredients are coconut shampoo base, aloe vera gel, lavender, mint, chamomille, sage, nettle, rosemary, wheat protein, tea tree oil, and vitamins E and C. They also make a conditioner and an inbetween bath "Buddy Splash". Lucy also highly recommends their buddy biscuit treats!
From the Cloud Star website:
Light and refreshing Lavender & Mint scent
pH-balanced to be gentle on your dog's sensitive skin
Free of potentially harmful SLS and ALS
Safe for use on puppies
Soap free - can be used in conjunction with topical flea treatments
Choose from 2 fl. oz., 19 fl. oz., or 1 gallon size bottles
Made in USA
Recyclable packaging
Pure, natural ingredients. Botanical extracts. You'll know the difference the first time you snuggle with your furry friend after a bath. Harsh, alcohol-based shampoos can leave your pet's coat dry and irritated, but not Buddy Wash. Heal. Soothe. Moisturize. Rejuvenate. Your furry friend will thank you. Did we forget to mention the light and refreshing lavender mint scent? Consider it a bonus. Not all soothing shampoos have to smell like medicine, do they?

{{{ I sound like a broken record, but here goes... }}}
What kind of food do you feed? A poor diet can lead to itchy, flaky skin and be the cause of her odor. Bathing 2x per month is a lot...I bathe my dogs about 2-4x per year!

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll have to check out some of those products.
mjfish--We have fed her several different kinds of food over the years, from uber-expensive to super cheap, and she has always had this problem. We give her a fish oil pill everyday, and they seem to help quite a bit. Thanks for asking!

Uber expensive as in super premiums such as Canidae, Innova, California Natural, Timberwolf Organics, Natural Balance...? (I just had to ask... ;) ) If so, good to know. Here's a link with some options, a few of which are soap free: Valley Vet (http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_sub_category.html?cguid=30e081ee-7b6a-11d5-a192-00b0d0204ae5)

we usually use pet shampoo my mom makes, but when our doggies are really stinky we use pantene clarifying shampoo (the stuff for people). it strips out just about any bad doggie smell and leaves them smelling pretty.

bumping this up...
My dog doesn't have dandruff problems but we are looking for a good basic shampoo for her. She's a 4 year old Shep/Lab mix if that matters. And recs?
Thanks!

We love Buddy Wash. I get it at my local pet store, but have seen it at Whole Foods and used to get it at Trader Joe's. It has a lavender scent that really stays with the dogs. They smell soooooo good.

Thanks, CityGirl! We ordered some of this to try :) I've heard good things about it from other pet parents.
