Hi ladies. I should probably just do what my dr. says, but I don't trust doctors, so here I go. She prescribed Prometrum for me to take CD 14 to 24 to reduce the days of spotting I have pre-O. I know most dr.s assume CD14 O. My problem is that I am pretty sure I haven't O'd yet...no temp rise, and darkening but still negative OPKs. Should I go ahead and take it CD 14-24, or wait until I am pretty sure I Od? Today is CD 14, so I guess I need some quick help!:o
Thanks!

Just realized through a google search and looking at my Rx bottle that I misspelled it in the title...prometrium

I can't advise you to ignore your doctor, but I can tell you the instructions my own Dr gave me. ;)

Whenever I took progesterone, I started it on 2dpo, no matter which day I O'd on. Otherwise the instructions would have been cd16. And I can say, from what I've seen, 2 or 3dpo is pretty normal instructions.

My doc told me 3 DPO. Interesting though b/c if you're not charting, how would you know when you O?

In our case, we knew when I O'd because the Dr was doing ultrasounds. And they had me doing OPKs, too.

My doctor had me start the prometrium two days after getting a positive OPK.

I don't want o hijack the thread, but this is why I was disappointed in my doc. Went to see her a few weeks ago for pre-AF spotting (worried it might mean low prog, even though it was the first time it happened) - she prescribed the prometrium to start 3DPO, but told me to see what happens this month first.

That's it. No explanation - no information on when to stop, how to know if I am 3 DPO, whether I should have my levels tested - nothing.

I'm all for being responsive but I didn't really want to prescribe it based on my 'self-diagnosis'. (though I guess there is no harm in taking extra progesterone. We'll see what happens in the next few days to see if I need to fill it for next month.

/end rant

Robyn, are you seeing an RE?

No. I went to my OB/GYN office b/c of the unusual spotting (admittedly, a little sooner than necessary, perhaps - but if there is a problem I would like to know sooner rather than later).

Met w/one of the dr's in the practice and asked about natural prog cream. Even though it was my first month spotting - I thought it strange that the first month I spotted like that coincided with one of the first times I could have legitmately conceived.

She said she had no problem with me taking progesterone (if the spotting happens again) and prescribed prometrium to begin 3DPO (starting after this cycle).

I just found the whole thing strange. No instruction, no follow up, no testing of my prog levels (which is what I really wanted to set up) - nothing. I know I'm getting ahead of myself here b/c we haven't been trying that long - but 6 days of pre-AF spotting is not normal.

If I spot again this month, I'll probably fill the prescription and call the dr's office for further instruction.

Scooter - thanks for all of your help in FP threads!

Robyn- it sounds like you and I are in the same situation. I guess about 6 months ago, I DID have my progesterone checked and it was 20. Normal is at least 10, I think. She said my problem sounded like everything wasn't shedding at the same time, so maybe it's normal throughout most of my LP then starts dropping toward the end...Anyway, I kinda feel like you do about your dr. I feel like I know what I need to because I am proactive about finding things out. It's definitely because she has told me anything! As you can see, mine just said CD 14...assuming we all O on the same day. I guess it's just too much trouble to teach someone how to chart or use OPKs. . I am glad I asked this question. Sounds like I am not the only one.
