Congrats on your baby girl, Kim! Hehe, once again, severe MS = girl. ;) Go have fun buying lots of girly clothing for her!

sasha ~ Do you get it from dh's side of the family too? (guilt for not raising her catholic)?{{HUGS}} ... That's one thing that I'm very thankful for... dh and I both being the same religion. There's enough family related stress without throwing the whole religion thing in there... that's gotta be TOUGH!
DH's family could care less. They aren't exactly practicing Catholics. In the almost 9 years I have known DH, I've never seen anyone in his family set foot in a church, even though both DH and his brother went to Catholic school (and DH's brother also married a Jewish girl! :p ). I really think it's the Jews who care more, especially when you are the relative of a Halocaust survivor. My parents adore DH and it has never really been an issue, although my dad did want us to have a Jewish wedding, which we did. But we knew once we had a child, it would become more of an issue. Sarah is going to be raised more Jewish than Catholic, mainly because my family actually goes to Temple on holidays, etc. But we want her to be exposed to both. My mother's exact words were "well Christmas will win out over Hanukkah because it is a prettier and more exciting holiday." If my parents have a problem with it, I really don't care. This is how WE are choosing to expose her to both. For all intensive purposes, Sarah is Jewish, but I wouldn't dare tell DH he can't have Christmas, it's part of his religion. He wouldn't tell me not to celebrate Passover. Sigh, sorry for the rant there, I got a little caught up in it! :o

Sasha DH is jewish and I am catholic so I feel your pain. Our familys have been really good about having Aiden exposed to both but we do get crap sometimes about a lot of things

"My mother's exact words were "well Christmas will win out over Hanukkah because it is a prettier and more exciting holiday"

Yup I get this too from friends

ahavnes great news! I'm so glad for you!

kim CONGRATS, so excited to see some pink....get shopping girl! You are going to love it!

Santa we went today, as you can see it wasn't a big hit. And she loves strangers. She was very curious waiting in line and tried to get through the barrier before it was our turn but when I walked her up there she started shouting "no no". I sat with her (thus the bad crop job to cut me out) and my dad snapped this pic. She's actually waving her hands in the "all done" sign. BUT isn't this a great looking Santa Claus (his actual hair and beard)? I would have bought the picture but my eyes were closed.

Christmas decorations The lights are up outside. We get our tree this weekend b/c we have a party on the 9th. I need to get decorating but it's going to be a challenge. I'll have to make trips to the attic during her naps.

big bed no plans anytime soon as long as she doesn't climb out of the crib.

Thank you girls for all of the well-wishes. :)

Congrats Kim! I second what Sasha said...severe MS=Girls. ;)

Big Girl Bed- Heck no. In fact, we are toting the pack and play all the way to Palm Beach this weekend just so that we have something to "trap" her in, lol! :p

Decorating- The usual, tree, garland on the stairs, etc. I'll cut down on the candles now that she's walking though and will probably leave the ornaments off the bottom of the tree.

Sasha- Yet another coincidence with us...kind of. ;) My aunt (mom's sister) was raised Catholic and she married a Jewish man. They are raising the kids Jewish, but also celebrate Christmas with our side of the family (they don't do a tree at home though). I know it bugs him that my aunt won't give up the Christmas celebration, but he's a good sport about it. I know it's a source of contention in their home as well. Hugs on dealing with that! :)

Disney- You're in good company; we're leaving for Florida tomorrow! :)

Congrats, Kim on the girl! I'm so excited for y'all!

Big Girl Bed: If our TTC adventures are successful, we'll probably be moving Aidan to a big girl bed when we put the new baby into the crib (probably 6-8 weeks after he or she is born). If we don't wind up getting pregnant before Ryan deploys, I'll probably move her when he gets back.

QOTD: For those of y'all who either have more than 1 child or are expecting your second or more, what are y'all doing as far as rooms go? Will the kids share a room? Are you putting the sibling in a room on it's own? This is something I haven't discussed with Ryan yet and I really have no clue about what I want to do. I'm leaning towards having them share a room so we can maintain our office/guest room but will a crying baby disturb Aidan's sleep and vice versa? Any thoughts, ideas or comments would be appreciated.

Santa: I've heard that there's a really good Santa that's dressed in a Victorian style long dark red coat at a place near here in Pine Mountain so I'd like to go there maybe next week for some good pics. I also need to go have Aidan's Christmas pictures made next week too...we're going to Picture People. That also means we need to get her some tights and black patent leather Mary Janes.

18 Month WBV: We've been so busy with work and day care and the holiday that we missed getting her an appointment at the 18 month mark. So, she's got an appointment for 4 days before she turns 19 months old. Y'all, I CANNOT believe that our babies are on the downhill slide to 2! Crazy! Where did our babies go?

Big boy bed: Not anytime soon.

Sasha: How is DH feeling? I hope he's doing well.

Alien: Cute photo! I need to go find the CD from our trip...

Note to self:
1. Make 18mo WBV
2. Arrange an Xmas outfit for DS
3. Arrange a visit to santa
4. Send Thank You cards to may/june moms for reminding me of all the really obvious things I forget to do.

Rooms for 2nd Baby & Big Boy Bed
Well....right now we share a room with DS and are trying to sell our condo and buy a house. If DD (OMG THAT IS THE 1ST TIME I WROTE "DD"! hee hee) comes before we move, then we'll be one big happy family all in one room. Sounds fun, right?

But when we get a house, we plan to get a 4-5 bedroom so we, DS, and DD each get our own room plus we have a guest room (or guest room/office). We knew this is what we wanted to do for a long time and have been planning & saving accordingly. I always enjoyed having my own room as did DH, so we're passing that along to the kids.

As for the bed, if we have a house I will likely keep DS in the crib until DD is ready for it (around 4 months, I'd guess) then bring a Big Boy Bed into his room, slowly do the transition, and childproof that room so he can't hurt himself or wander out of it if he wakes before we do in the morning.

Were you at the north Pole? That's the most real-looking santa I've seen yet!

Now we need to get me or jessiesmama to the Ghetto Mall and see if Santa is as bad as the easter Bunny. ;) I am so planning a trip there and bringing my camera. Anyone remember that??? The mis-matched head and body? LOL!

QOTD Rooms We have 4 bedrooms so each of my two kids have their own room. Now, if I were to have another one I would have the two of the same sex share a room until they asked to be seperated. I also have 4 bathrooms so bathroom time in the AM hopefully will never be a problem when they get older.

ETA: while working on getting some holiday photos, DD inadvertantly got a taste of her first candy cane (see avatar). It was wrapped and she put it to her mouth. I snapped a pic and went to take it away to discover she had torn open the wrapper (and hopefully didn't eat the plastic :( )

bedrooms:we have enough rooms for both to have their own. Crib wise, as stated in a previous post, Landon's staying in his until he is busting out of it, if I have anything to do with it. Reece has his own furniture ordered already, realistically, he could use Landon's by the time he's out of the co-sleeper and out of our room (Landon was about 6 mos. old) BUT, I wanted black furniture this time. So..well...Reece got black furniture. ;) And dh rolled his eyes! :)

psusna: Darling pics., I so know that look in the first pic., Landon is ALWAYS plotting his next move, I just wish I knew what was going on in that little brain of his. You know it's moving a million miles a minute! Just like their bodies are!

Good times :)

Bedrooms: We have 4, so each baby will have their own room, but Collin's room is so much bigger than Brady's. I plan on having them share a room once they are both in beds and turning the smaller room in to a playroom. I want to keep the 4th room a guest room/craft room.

Great pics alienhost and psusna!

I won't know what to do with myself with more than 1 bedroom after so long sharing! I may just get 2 double beds and make DH sleep in his own, just to make the most of my s.p.a.c.e. :D

Beds: We have a 4 bedroom. The smallest is the nursery. The next smallest is going to be Nic's big boy room. His big boy bed is actually going to be bunk beds, and when this child graduates from nursery to big boy room, Nic will move to the top bunk and he'll have the bottom... The biggest of the 3 bedrooms is currently storage/craft space. I'm thinking that we'll keep the kids (however many we have) in 2 of the bedrooms, convert the den downstairs into a playroom and use the 3rd room as den/craft space til we're done with the nursery, then re-do the nursery into an office in years to come...but dh disagrees (I think waaaayyyyy tooo far into the future...) We shall see... I REALLY miss a basement. It would be the perfect place for a play room... (Hint, hint Kim - basements are WONDERFUL THINGS)

Kim ~ COngrats on the lil princess!!

So, I really wanted to check in to see if Kim had posted... so I gave Nic a few plastic spice containers.... i dont think ANY of his toys have EVER held his attention so well or for so long!!!

Sasha

Kim - That was my mom who said that. Only a Jewish mother knows how to lay on the guilt so well. And please go and see if there is a Ghetto Santa for us too!

psusna - Great photos! Thanks for asking about DH. We just found out that he suffers from Celiac disease, which means he is allergic to wheat. Now that we know this and he is eliminating wheat from his diet, things are improving.

Ally - I'm glad there is someone else you can feel my pain. :o

Beds - Well, not that we are even TTC right now, but we have a 3 bedroom townhouse that we'll hopefully be selling in 2007. The plan is to move into a 4 bedroom house, so that each kid has their own room and we have a guest room/office. I really want to be out of our townhouse by the time we have #2 because even though it's a 3 bedroom, we're stuffed enough as it is already!

I REALLY miss a basement. It would be the perfect place for a play room... (Hint, hint Kim - basements are WONDERFUL THINGS)
LOL! It is a non-negotiable on our list for the new house. If i am going to deal with the baloney I have been to sell this place and pay a fortune for a house in the 'burbs, i am getting my 4-5BR and a finished basement. Ahhh...to have an area to toss all the toys so its not like a minefield in my livingroom....that would be the day....

I gave Nic a few plastic spice containers.... i dont think ANY of his toys have EVER held his attention so well or for so long!!!
Some "toys" that I can't believe Thomas is so into:
- a deck of playing cards
- disposable tupperware in different shapes with lids
- Post-Its
- A roll of toilet paper to unroll
- Big box of Kleenex to take out and put back in (not the pop-up kind)
- Groceries in the bags for him to organize
- A stack of toddler plates with the sections, he can stack them, fit them together, flip them over to the white plain side or the colorful side

kim: Yes, I remember getting a huge kick out of the ghetto bunny. Please tell me they don't have ghetto santa too??? Poor kids! Now I know ya'll wouldn't be dissing on my ghetto bunny again! ;) :p

Santa Pics~I'm planning on taking DD sometime. Maybe Sunday after church would be good. That way, we don't have to make an extra trip, and she'll already be dressed up!

Bedrooms~We have 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths. We use our spare room as a guest room but will most likely make it another kids room when we decide to have #2. We have toyed with the idea of building a new home on our current property in the far-flung future, and that hypothetical house would have 5 bedrooms and at least 2 full bathrooms!

happy1nuv
11-29-2006, 10:31 AM
Kim... A basement was on our must-have list too, but the lot our house is on sold us to go without... (we are in the middle of a cul de sac, with a huge backyard - wooded so you only see the houses behind ours in winter). Stay strong!

The grocery bags are a hit for Nic too... it makes coming home from the grocery store SO MUCH EASIER (yet harder too since he wants to try to put stuff away in the pantry/fridge...yet has no clue that there is a reason that peanut butter goes in the pantry and milk in the fridge)... I never would have thought of playing cards though...must dig those out! And, the toilet paper roll keeps him totally occupied while mommy is in the bathroom :)
Nic has a set of metal cups that he LOVES too... they all fit inside each other (they're for adults, not toys... no clue what kind of metal but not heavy)...he can spend hours with those too!
Fess up...what non-toys does your kid love better than the coolest toy?

jmvan74
11-29-2006, 10:46 AM
non-toy/toys The swifter and broom. I broke down and bought him a small broom b/c he kept tripping on the real one. DS also loves empty toilet paper rolls (he talks through them), tupperware, the little cards that fall out of magazines (the order cards?). Oh and of course...the pots and pans. He could reorganize my cookware all day.

Stickers
I forgot to mention stickers. I introduced him to them at a restuarant on vacation, and then swiped an extra sheet of them for the plane ride home from Chicago.
I'd stick them on his legs, Tom would put them on his belly, I took along some printer paper and it kept him occupied for about 45 minutes on the plane. A saviour! He's definitely getting some stickers for Xmas. He was good at putting them on the paper, then on the snack tray (which luckily they didn't stay stuck to, so no one complained we were doing that!).

Non-Toy Toy
Dixie cups. Good times, good times.
At bfast the other day we gave him the little creamers to stack, and the empty ones to put inside each other. He was enthralled.
Nothing but the best for my boy.....

Non-Toy Toy Our current favs are the little jam packets (he chews through the creamers), measuring cups, whisks, stickers, black beans, rice grains, cups, bowls, playing cards and greeting cards, old VCR tapes and covers...

Do you guys see what we're not bothering to buy toys? :)

Best stickers are the foam kind but you still have to peel the paper off for them. You can get a big bin at Michaels. Hours of entertainment...!

non-toy toy
Water bottles - She still loves water bottles, mostly if they are partially full Deck of cards - I tried the deck of cards but she bent all of them :(.
Catalogs - She loves catalogs, expecially those with babies (pottery barn kids, lands end kids) and toy catalogs, and I just toss them when they get torn.
Any tupperware or bowl
hats - loves putting them on and off or asking a grown up to wear it.
halloween "bucket" - she is still using her ghost bucket as a little purse.
hair brush or comb

stickers are popular here too.

Non-Toy Toy video games and VHS tapes. He likes to take them from room to room and put them places.
Also pot and pan

Sasha: I'm glad they were able to find a cause of DH's illness. It sounds like something that can be controlled without consistent medical intervention so that's good!

Ally: When is the big move? Hope your packing and planning is going well.

Non-Toy Toys: Many of the same here -- plastic bowls, spoons, poker chips, Dixie Cups, remote controls, phones, shoes, broom, etc. Good tip on those stickers Cynder. I must check into stickers....I just fear my house being one big sticker!

Nontoys: Aidan adores pill bottles with dried beans in them, the old shower head that we took off our shower to install my good one (no clue why it appeals to her), and any make-up...this child is all girl...she loves to hold my lip gloss tubes and "put it on". She also loves hair brushes, telephones, remote controls, spoons and napkins.

rancherswife

non-toy toys: A lot of the same that you've all mentioned, along w/ Brett's boots. He could play in his boots for a loooong time. Also, unfolding all of the laundry that I've just folded, yeah, that's a big one for him too. Credit cards are a fave. (expired) as well. Gotta get some stickers and give those a try!

tgray: I take it from the question you asked yesterday, you convinced Ryan to ttc on your trip last weekend??? ;) Good job girl!

tgray: I take it from the question you asked yesterday, you convinced Ryan to ttc on your trip last weekend??? ;) Good job girl!
Yup. Except, I didn't have to do much convincing. We were driving along, talking about his deployment and the morbid forms the Army has them fill out and I said "I guess us getting pregnant is probably out of the question, huh?" and he said, "Actually, I've been thinking that we should probably go ahead and start trying." So, I did a little math and figured out that this week is my week so we've been BD'ing every night (except last night...we were exhausted!) Here's hoping there's a baby boy in my future! :D

Alicia- So glad it was good news!

Kim- Congrats on the baby girl!!!

Non-Toy Toys- Pretty much everything already mentioned.

Santa- Well, we went to a breakfast with Santa at a local restaurant and I think pictures tell the story:
He was perfectly happy being dressed like Santa:
http://www.dropshots.com/photos/178389/20061129/231919.jpg
But when it came time to actually sit with Santa:
http://www.dropshots.com/photos/178389/20061129/230842.jpg
I don't think we'll be trying it again.

Christmas decor- This is the first time I've had a lot of space to decorate so I'm going a little nuts. I'm semi-obsessed with Jim Shore's Heartwood Creek collection and with Willow Tree figurines; I have them everywhere. Lots of candles (up high) and I've hung ornaments everywhere to display them until we get our tree.

Sasha I'm glad your DH got a diagnosis. I read a very interesting article in The Boston Globe months ago about Celiac. I had never heard of it but it sounds like lots of people do have to deal with it. Anyway, I'm glad he is feeling better.

jrdh cute pics!

tgray best of luck to you!

stickers I forgot to mention that I often give DD address labels to stick on paper - we get tons of them sent here unsolicited and thinks they are just as good as regular stickers.

credit cards DD loves holding the costco card at the store. I was saving the "fake plastic card" that comes with credit card applications (Amex I think?) thinking she might like those. I'll have to check the kitchen drawer.

ETA - kim we cross posted about the fake credit cards! hee hee, great minds think alike....

Congrats, Kim, on your baby girl!

Nontoys: playing cards, containers for juice mix, old phones and remotes, utensils, and our salad spinner. His new thing is to open and close doors, usually the bathroom near our living room. He likes to close himself in the bathroom.

big boy bed: I mentioned earlier that we've made this transition. DS never liked the crib. But he spent a lot of time in our bed when I was nursing and then no matter what we tried, never got him to like the crib. He does move around a lot at night, and anytime he'd hit the crib, it would wake him up. So we still had a full-size mattress from when I was single, and we put that on the boxsprings on the floor in his room--no side rails yet. He crawls up on it to go to bed, but doesn't crawl off when he wakes up. He just sits up and calls for us. So far, he's slept so well on it and hasn't rolled off once. It was the right time for us.

Picture with Santa: no way. Brody hated getting his picture taken at Sears by himself. I can just imagine the screaming at Santa.

Decorating: maybe this weekend. We're going to have to go get a gate to put around the tree. Brody crawls under my MIL's tree and turns the powerstrip on and off.

Just a quick question... Nic is never far from me in the house, but occasionally (usually when the tv is on -- bad mom alert, I know), he'll let me go in another room. Last night I ran to the bathroom (gasp - by MYSELF), and this morning I was cleaning up breakfast... and out of nowhere, he just started screaming. Like, holy horror screaming. Like, I fell and hit my head really hard on tile screaming. Only... I didnt see last nights (obviously), but this morning..he was just sitting there. He hadnt moved, just started screaming... any ideas what could be wrong? (he is teething, but no more so than he's been the past month...we're making up for lost time and I think ALL the rest of his teeth are coming SLOWLY in)...

:)

Happy - Hmm, the first thing I thought of was SA? All of a sudden, he realized you weren't there and he got scared, maybe. Hope it is nothing more serious.

Alien - I think our DDs are wearing the same outfit in our avatars! Hehe, the infamous smocking outfit. :) I am going to see if I can find that Boston Globe article, thanks for the tip.

jrdh - He looks so happy in the first picture...second picture is pretty funny. ;)

Stickers - I just tried them out last weekend and Sarah loved playing with them. Definitely picking up some more.

Non-toys - Same as what everyone else listed....old credit cards, shoes, tupperware, hats (she loves putting them on our heads), empty bottles, remotes (although if she gets her hand on a real remote, she can turn the TV on now  ), opening and closing doors....

Well, we've made it to Florida...barely. When I picked Abs up at school yesterday, her teacher said she was a little "off" and that she hadn't eaten. NOT what a mom wants to hear before a plane trip. Let me tell you, the seatbelt sign wasn't even off before Abbey hurled all over herself and the car seat. Nice. I'm pretty glad we got Abbey her own seat too, b/c she spent both flights curled up on my lap, burning up. :o At least Elmo was safe and comfy in the carseat. Luckily, she seems to be her old self this morning. Maybe it's teething??

Sasha- I am going to pm you my email address about this weekend!

Alien - I think our DDs are wearing the same outfit in our avatars! Hehe, the infamous smocking outfit. :) I am going to see if I can find that Boston Globe article, thanks for the tip.

hey they are! I have a subscription to the Boston Globe Archives, let me see what I can dig up and I'll PM you if I find the article.

happy1 not sure either, hope all is OK

ahavnes I hope abbey feels better and you can enjoy your trip.

Carissa I can't believe how close your due date is! (makes me scared of how close Christmas really is)!

ETA:

DD had our weight check today, finally she is over 20 lbs. She weighed in at 20lbs 7ozs - a gain of 12 ozs in a month, which is almost what she gained in 3 months. I think maybe her 18 mo wbv weight amount was off a bit. Anyway the ped is happy and we don't go back until she is 2 unless she shows signs of not eating etc. FINALLY I can turn her around in the car...

stupid question I was planning on having DD give DH a pair of cufflinks that are lockets with her picture. I was going to have them engraved with an initial - GENERALLY it would be the initial of the LAST name right?

TIA!

Alienhost: Yes, that is what I would do. Sweet idea :)

alien Yes, it would be the last initial.

ahavnes Where abouts in FL are you?
------------------------------------

Well, we are leaving for our 2.5 week trip to Disney in a few hrs and I am so nervous about Nikki staying seated on the plane. This is a girl who can not sit still for more than 5 seconds. I have tons of things to do and food packet so I have that covered. I can not wait to land..LOL Its also my B-day tomorrow so, I will be celebrating with Breakfast with Mickey. HEHEHEHEH

Well, off to finish up a few things before the limo people come.

Cufflinks: I got DH an engraved keychain for his 1st father's day with pics of DS inside. I put DS's monogram on it (which happens to be the same as DH's ;) )and made a point to let DH know that was it. He loved it! So maybe it woud be cute to put DS's 1st initial on the cufflinks...? Just a thought.

Non-toy toys~DD loves the plastic spice bottles, pencils/pens (loves to "write"), keys, phones, and remotes. Magnets of any kind (not just the alphabet toys) are a hit as well!

Stickers~Have any of you tried those removable stickers/clings? I found a Dora set today that I thought about picking up for DD or my niece.

tgray~Congrats on the move to TTC #2!

jrdhbunny~I love that first pic! The second I could help but think "poor little guy".

Big Kid Bed~When is everyone making this transition? I was thinking no sooner than her second birthday, simply because there wouldn't be a baby #2 by then.

Happy1~I agree with the others, probably just SA.

Alicia~Poor girl! :( Glad she is feeling better now!

Carissa~Yay! You're getting so close! :D

Alien~I like Kim's suggestion of engraving DD's initials. Glad DD made the 20 pound mark!

Disney~Happy Birthday!!!

Blah. I'm tired. I think I may go pop in a movie and start wrapping Christmas gifts.

Just curious, what will Shylah be doing while you wrap??? I'm up for any and all advice on this, otherwise, I see myself wrapping after Landon goes down for the night. Let me tell you...he is my "little elf" this year, w/ any and all things x-mas! ;)

Shylah was over at her Ggma's house today! ;) She spends Thursdays with them to give me a break, and so that Ggpa can see her.
