ally: WOW! Exciting news!!!
happy: Freakin' adorable picture.
ahavnes: Hope Abbey's feeling better soon.
tgr: Hope you get some rest! What did you do over the weekend?
psusna: I'm right there w/ ya with being in denial!!!
Ok...we've gotta get our wild banchee to bed, he's literally tearing the house up. I have not been able to keep up w/ him today! He's going to his Nanni's tomorrow, I've got an OB appt. and then meeting a girlfriend for lunch. Bless his heart, he can go tear up my mom's house for a little while. ;) Does anyone else ever feel like somedays they can stay right on top of things around the house and others is just a wash? I hate that feeling!

My friend has a 11 week baby and was asking me some questions about bedtimes and feedings and I went back in our old threads to see what we were doing at this point. Oh. My. God. Those times and the things we did seem like a lifetime ago. I need to go back when I have time and jot some things down for future reference but what a fun read.
We have come a long way ladies!

alienhost- Hope everyone in your home feels better soon!
Forgetting the Early Days of Motherhood- It's funny that cynder should mention this, b/c I was just thinking about it the other day. I used to get so mad at my friends with older babies b/c they couldn't seem to remember anything about their pregnancies or early baby days...but now I am the same way! Sigh.

If you want to really get out a kick of something, go back to WC and read about our pregnancies! I did that on a really slow day at work a few months ago and it was a hoot! I do like Cynder's idea of going back and printing that stuff out because whenever we have #2, I will have long forgotten about what we did those early days.
Alicia - I hope Abbey is feeling better soon!
Would you have had the same reaction I did to this scenario?
DH, BIL, SIL and I are planning a surprise 60th bday party for MIL next month. I get an email from SIL asking me what size Sarah wears because she bought matching dresses for her DDs to wear to the party and plans on getting the same one for Sarah to wear too. WTF? First off, Sarah is their cousin, not their sister, so she doesn't need to be dressed the same as them. It's not like they are BMs in a wedding or something, no need for the 3 of them to match. Second, she didn't even ask me, she just told me this is what she was doing. Last I checked, Sarah was my child and I got to decide what she wears. The whole thing just really ticked me off. I am personally not a fan of dressing sisters in matching outfits anyway (something SIL does all the time), but their cousin too? GMAB....

sasha ~ I'd email her back saying thanks, but you already found the perfect dress/outfit for her to wear. It's one thing if the two of you talked and were on the same page about having all three girls match...it's another to get an email out of the blue... way overstepping. It's nice of her to offer to buy your daughters outfit, but... ummm, no. :)
Question: Nic had a cold last week...still has a slightly drippy nose (went through maybe 5-7 tissues so far today) and an occasional cough, but he's acting normal (besides the teething/sleep issues -- but those have been ongoing for about a month)... BUT, he has two bumps on the side of his neck. DH thinks their glands...but we shouldn't be able to feel/SEE them... should we? Would you take your dc to the dr for that? (I kind of want him to go, but since he's just getting over a cold I'm afraid of what he'll pick up from the waiting room... I want him better, not worse, kwim?
Early days ~ Yeah, I have a vague recollection but that's about it.. Gotta go re-read those threads one of these days... I really want to print them all out, cause they're the closest thing to a journal I have...and would love to share it with Nic when he gets older...(way older)...

Alicia I hope Abbey feels better. Grace has been under the weather too.
rancherswife I have a hard time staying on top of things period :)
Sasha I would hate that, I would email her back and say thanks but no thanks.
psusna
10-24-2006, 10:24 AM
Sasha: I agree with the others -- thanks but no thanks. It would be one thing if you had discussed looking for matching outfits and she happened to find something, but doing it without discussing it with you isn't cool.
Happy: I would call and describe it to the nurse and ask if they think you should go in.
I hope all of the sick kiddos, moms and dads are feeling better today!
Found out last night that my dad has an 80% chance of needing open heart surgery this winter to replace his aortic valve. We'll know for sure after his cath. next Thursday. Crossing our fingers that the echo yesterday was inaccurate, but I really think if anything the cath will show more damage than the echo did, not less.
ahavnes
10-24-2006, 11:21 AM
Sasha- I agree with everyone else. I would tell her you already have the perfect outfit picked out. YOUR outift! ;)
happy1- I'd take him in, but I am a paranoid freak, as you all know. :)
psusna- So sorry to hear about your dad! I will be crossing my fingers that the echo comes back normal. However, if he does have surgery, it may help you to know that my dad had a quintuple bypass a few years ago and he is in great shape now! Still, I know it is very scary to have a parent go through a surgery like that. You'll be in our prayers.

Cleaning Up~DD does pretty good. A lot of the time I just tell her to bring something to me, and then I put it away.
Thanksgiving Outfit~Last year I made her a turkey onsie. I doubt I'll do anything this year though. We usually have a very casual celebration.
Alicia~Thanks!
Alien~Hope your family is doing much better today!
DST~Not looking forward to this at all! I am not a morning person, so forcing me out of bed earlier is not going to be pretty! :p
Rancherswife~My sister was in town for my dad's 50th birthday. We went out on Friday night and got in at 1:00am (an hour later than we were supposed to, but that's a whole different post). Then Saturday morning we took DDs to the college's homecoming parade. It rained most of the day, but we did get a good long break from it during the parade itself. Saturday afternoon, we went wedding dress shopping for sis (getting married 5/31/08). That evening was the surprise party for my dad, and we got him good! He never saw it coming at all! Sunday afternoon I had a Creative Memories event at the library. We finished up there around 6pm and headed to ILs house to watch "Over the Hedge". So, by Monday, I was exhausted! :)
Sasha~I would be irritated too if someone just told me what they were doing with my child. I think Happy1 had a good suggestion for handling the situation. Good luck with the party!
Happy1~Call the dr and see what they say. Hope he starts feeling better soon!
Carissa~Hope Grace starts feeling better!
psusna~Praying for your dad!
Got some rest yesterday!! Today has been so crazy that we haven't even made it to the library yet! DD was really grouchy, so I put her down for a nap. I'm hoping to get both grocery shopping and library trip done this afternoon.

Oh you can bet that I immediately emailed her back with a "thanks for the offer but I already have a dress for her to wear" line!! Just what I need, yet another excuse to buy Sarah another cute outfit. ;) But I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one who thought that was way off base, so thanks for the reassurance. :)
psusna - Your dad is in my thoughts. I actually had open heart surgery to re-open aortic and pulmonary valves when I was 7 years old. I have never had a problem since (and this was back in the day when it was an ususual procedure!). So I'm sure if your dad needs the surgery, that all will go well. But if you have any questions, concerns or just want to talk to someone, please feel free to PM me.

PSUSNA: My dad had a similar surgery and came through like a champ. Best of luck to him.
Under the Weather: We're all croupy here. Aidan and I are both snotty and have a cough. She's not really acting like she feels bad and I don't really feel cruddy, but I sound like I've smoked for 50 years. ;)

Dad: Wow. Thank you so much for your kid words, thoughts and prayers for my dad. It really makes me feel good to hear all of your stories and good outcomes. It means a lot to me, thank you.
DS now refuses to sit in a highchair or booster at the table. He set his own place at the table tonight (got out one of his forks and one of his spoons, put them at his place) and sat in a regular chair :)
We are really working to cut down on the paci and have him at just night and naps. It has made a HUGE impact on the clarity of his speech, Mommy is so clear now as is bus and bye-bye, etc.

thanks for the well wishes again! DH is better, went to work. DD slept til 9:30 this morning (went to bed at 7:30) She still has a cough (although mostly just when she wakes up). I on the otherhand can't shake it - I decided not to take any sudafed today and I really should have. But at least we are all starting to get better! I hope to get back to regular activities by Thursday.
psusna I hope your dad is OK. Stuff like that is always scary. I'm thinking about you and your family. ((and on a fun note, I love how your DS set his own place))
tgr wow that was a busy weekend, no wonder you are tired!
Sasha I would have done what you did. She could have at least asked you if you were interested in matchy-matchy dresses.
happy1nuv I would do what psusna suggested, call the nurse and ask their advice. I hope he is OK.
early days of motherhood I've conveniently forgotten a lot of it. :D My SIL who has a 5 month old asks me questions and I honestly have no recollection. I read some of the WC PG journals a while back - so interesting to go back to the pre-baby/early days.
dipping i didn't post about this before b/c I never really thought to try it with her. Today I gave her some ketchup with her burger and she really just smooshed it around the plate.
those not feeling well I hope everyone feels better soon, it seems like so many people are sick! Get well soon!

hey all. no stats to update since page four, i just skimmed and didn't see anything......save for adding rancherswife's stats about her baby boy + his name (i love the name Reece!) :) i will get to that this weekend.
hope you're all doing well. i barely get to check in anymore! Elodie had a terrible ear infection last week, temp up to 102 for several days, totally kicked her butt. she still lies down on the floor often as if she just can't get up the energy for the day. she had an allergic reaction to amoxicillin on Saturday and broke out into a full-body rash. DH thought she had measles (he had it as a child in Romania) but since Elodie had the MMR 2 months ago, Doc said it couldn't be. anyway she is on Zithromax now and doing much better. i was on vacation Thurs-Fri so i was so glad i could stay home and take care of her.
have a good rest of the week!

carissa: thanks, i'm glad i'm not the only one. ;) much better today. it's amazing what a few hours of shopping/eating lunch w/ a girlfriend can do for ya! :)
tgr: wow, you were a busy girl this past weekend. i got tired just reading your post! ;)
sasha: totally agree w/ the email you sent to sil. wtf is right? that would get under my skin for sure.
psusna: will be keeping your dad in my thoughts and prayers. my dad has an artificial aortic valve that was put in in 1992, he was pretty young. i was 12 years old and remember it like it was yesterday. we all know at some point, sooner or later, it'll have to be replaced again. does your dad have the pig valve or the metal? just curious. my dad's is metal.
remembering the early days: i really need to go back and read, sooner than later. ;) it does seem like forever ago. and i agree w/ cynder, we HAVE come a long way together! very cool. :) i too would love to print off the pg and early days.
bridal lace: thank you for the compliments on the name!
Had a nice day out shopping and having lunch w/ my girlfriend, due the same day as me. I was in search of a nice outfit for a dinner we're going to next week. This is top secret but I'll share w/ you girls ;) I was notified last week by the president of the Cattlemen's Assoc. that DH was chosen as Cowboy of the Year for our County and surrounding counties. He has no clue, the dinner/banquet is next Friday night, have no clue how we're gonna get him there. Gotta think up some sort of fib. It's really cool, his grandpa was Cowboy of the Year in 1984, when he was in his 60's. Brett is pretty young to be receiving this honor. I'm proud of him. But, do you think I could find ANYTHING to wear to this function? Of course not, a million other things, just not something for this. My search continues....
psusna
10-25-2006, 05:50 AM
rancherswife: That is what they are starting to decide now -- metal or pig. My dad has another heart condition on top of the valve problem, SVT, so I'm not sure if that will factor into the decision on the type of valve. Has your dad had any issues with clots around the metal valve? It's great that your dad's has lasted almost 15 years!! ----- On another note, what a wonderful honor for your husband!! It's so great to continue a family tradition like that. Good luck finding an outfit :)
alien: Thank you. It's so appreciated!
tgray: Hope you and Aidan are feeling better today!
DS and I almost got hit on our way to school this morning. UGH! The person was clearly lost and not paying attention and merged right into my lane -- I don't know how he didn't hit us. All Jackson kept saying was "BEEP BEEP BEEP" -- I think he approved of my use of the horn :)

rancherswife ~Congrats to Brett...that is really cool! And, good luck with both the fib and the outfit! :) (Is there a friend or someone else that could conceivably get the award and you could just tell him you both are going to support that person?)
psusa ~ Sorry to hear about your dad- I know its stressful, but hopefully it will be fine!... my dad's been through a bunch of heart surgeries and has a valve (not sure what kind) ... so I can relate. (I forget when...he started having issues (which could have been avoided if a friggin dr had just ordered a simple test, but thats another post) while we were all pg, but had the surgery for the valve replacement after nic was born)...
Early days... the other day i was driving somewhere and the mind was just wondering and I remember thinking I'd have to remember to tell you girls something... (i'm sure i didn't)... one thought led to another and I started thinking of waaayyyy in the future and wondering if we'd still be posting to each other when the kids all start sleeping out, dating, etc... :)

LOL, I've also wondered how long we'll all be chatting about our kids. Not to get too mushy on you guys, but I enjoy being a part of this great group. :)
Well you keep Sarah on the list of kids still sick. She doesn't have diarrhea still, but she is having (sorry if TMI!) soft and mushy poo up to 6 times a day! And because of that, the diaper rash will not clear up. It is bright red spots, they look raw. She is freaking over diaper changes and is so mad at me when we have to do them. For whatever reason, DH isn't on the receiving end of her "I'm mad at you" treatment, just me. :( I hate seeing her like this, and especially hate seeing her mad at me. Anyway, I left a message for the ped. we saw on Sunday to ask her follow up questions on how to clear all these problems up, because BRAT diet and the medicine for the rash isn't working.

Sasha - my Ped's nurse recommended an antifungal (clotrimazole is the active, brand name Lotrimin although we bought a generic) topped with Desitin (40% zinc oxide). The antifungal can go on 4x per day. It cleared James' bum up substantially in 24 hours! We too had the crying fits at diaper change time. GOOD LUCK!

Cynder enjoy the time with your family!
psusna I'm glad you and DS are OK, how scary. There are so many bad drivers out there it is not even funny.
Sasha I saw your post in 0-18 about DD, sorry she (and you) are going through this. Could she also be teething (to top everything off)? When DD is teething her poop can be softer. Bananas work for DD. Sorry I have no other thoughts on how to get her regular. Hang in there.
Bridallace wow that sounds scary! I'm glad DD is OK.
sick kiddos I can't believe so many are sick. Here's to heathy days ahead.
rant about the FP Ocean Wonders Aquarium OK is there a reason that the highest volume setting is SOOOOO loud? DD has discovered how to put it on full blast and I can hear it downstairs (with her door closed and with the washing machine on). That is just unnecessary! I tried calling FP to complain and they needed the model # (which is in her room and she is trying to nap). The CS lady told me "there is a volume control" me- "yes but my daugher knows how to turn it all the way up". My point is that no infant/toddler/or adult needs it that loud. Try it on yours (we have the older rectangle version bought in 2005). Poop on FP. I guess maybe she is too old for it now. But she loves it. :(

Thanks guys, for the congrats to Brett!
psusna: He's had no problems w/ clotting, infact he's been on a blood thinner since he got the valve and has to have his pro-time taken (blood drawn) every two-three weeks, to check for that. Yeah, they say that the metal valve lasts a lot longer, I'm sure that's why he and my mom decided on that one. It's crazy, if it's really quiet and you're sitting right next to him, he makes a ticking sound every time his heart beats. :)
cynder: Yeah, he's the real deal, a real live cowboy, but you know what's hysterical to me. If you didn't see him out working during the day and how he is dressed during the day, you'd never know it! He DOES NOT dress like a cowboy, only for work, otherwise, he's in flip flops, cute jeans and a trendy shirt. ;) People crack up at him. However, I'll have to have him dress in his western attire for the dinner next Friday night, he won't be thrilled. ;)
We've GOT to start keeping Landon up a little later these next few nights or else we're gonna be sorry come Sunday morning!

My DD has also discovered how to jack the volume up on hers as well. Its like 3 Am the house is super quiet and all of a sudden she wakes up and turns it on full BLAST. It nearly scares the hell out of me. I have no idea why the volume has to be so loud. Its clearly made as a crib toy its not a radio you would bring to the beach or to a party, so really why does it need to be that loud..I would love for FP to answer that.
Overall, its a great toy.

LMAO at the volume frustrations. When DS wakes up but we're not ready, he'll change the music, raise & lower the volume, change it from music-only to lights & bubbles. And when his patience is over, he BLASTS it on the music setting until we get the hint.
Actually, if anyone sees the old, squarish version being sold anywhere can you let me know? I love ours, and am not a fan of the new one. I want to get it for DC#2.
Early Days
I just remember:
- An apartment FULL of DH's family
- A BFing routine that started every 2nd hour 24 hours a day for 2 weeks
- A lot of diaper changing
- DS pooping in an arc onto the wall behind his head
- Absolutely losing my memory
I am going to order a custom sling from Funky Giraffe for DC#2, and I am now picturing how small my kid is going to be in comparison to how BIG DS is these days...so wierd!
psusna
Good luck to dad!

exactly, if I wanted a boom box I would have bought one! :D

that's a great idea! I'll have to try that to muffle it a little.
Before I took it out of the crib completely this morning, I came upstairs b/c I throught I heard water running - um no that was the aquarium on the "water setting" making all that noise.
rancherswife I was also thinking what a "romantic" type of job it must be to be a cowboy, it just seems so cool, like what you see in movies or something. Of course it's nothing like I've known IRL since I live in the city and have worked in an office all my life, it just seems like such a cool job. :)
early days what I recall is sitting in her room, watching her sleep during the day thinking I was the luckiest person around. I could have watched her for hours!
other vivid memories:
- washing all the pump parts at 3AM after I pumped. If I only were smart enough to have had two sets
- one of the first times I changed her diaper at home, she pooped 1/2 way across the room!
- watching DH alseep on the couch with DD on his chest.

Amen to that sister! :) Most of what I remember has to do with me rather than Abbey (how sad is that??). I remember my boobs hurting so bad that I couldn't even stand to have a shirt on. And I remember not being able to sit w/o that inflatable do-nut from the hospital. Mostly I remember wondering if I would ever have free time or a full night's sleep again! :o
FP Aquarium- Abbey loves to play with hers too. It cracks me up to hear her in her room messing with it. The other day she didn't even want to get out of her crib b/c it was just too fun to fiddle with the aquarium. :p
rancherswife- How cool for DH! Good luck finding an outfit. I always found that to be a challenge when I was preggo.
cynder- Enjoy your trip. Hope your dad is well.
Sick kiddos- Oh my gosh! And this isn't even the start of flu season yet! I hope everyone's kids feel better soon. (On a side note, thanks for the well-wishes for Abs.)

FP Aquarium-best crib toy ever ;)
I would agree, until your child can adjust the volume themselves...:D
I just got off the phone with FP. The woman said "the product has been tested and meets all requirements as far as sound/decibles." I said, "OK that is fine but really there is no reason that a 'soothing' crib toy needs to be that loud." She said, "well I'll be sure to pass that information on, can I help you with anything else?" I said, "Um no you have been so helpful".
Obviously they don't care what we have to say and probably won't change anything b/c it "meets certain requirements".
Great so the toy won't blow out her ear drum if she is standing next to it, but still....I guess I should be happy that she is refining her fine motor skills...;)

never had the FP aquarium, sounds like it's a must for Reece! :)
alien: Funny you should say a "cool" job to have. I laugh all the time at some of mine and dh's phone conversations. Not only is he a "cowboy" he is also certified in Artificial Insemination for cattle, so yes, that means he drives around w/ bull semen in a freezer in his truck! COOL!!! And, on top of that, as I mentioned before, the cattle all calve out in the fall months, so when dh calls me (which is normally on the two way radio, we have nextel) some of our conversations consist of "hey babe, not sure when I'll be home, I'm just sitting here waiting for this b!tch to calve. I thought she was close, her _____ (use your imagination, it's not a nice word for the boards. ;) my dh is GRAPHIC, AND GROSS!) is swollen and juicin' so it shouldn't be too long." It's lovely, especially when I'm in the middle of the grocery store and he's telling me this, for all to hear! ;) So yes....I guess one could say it's a "cool" job, he may not always agree! ;)

Sick: Hey all, thanks for the well-wishes. We're doing better. We both still have a cough and Aidan still has a runny nose from time to time but better over all.
Rancherswife: Congrats to your hubby on the fantastic award! That's so awesome! My DH cusses a lot on his job too, he has to remember when he comes home not to say f**ckin' before every other word like he does when he's out with the other soldiers. You'd think that word was standard Army issue the way they use it out here! I just hope Aidan doesn't pick it up! Of course, he hasn't been around much at all this month so she couldn't learn it this month.
Speaking of...I need to see my man soon. The Army really has been monopolizing him and as a result, I keep having lewd fantasies about an actor on TV (Carmine Giovinazzo...hawtness!) Ryan needs to get back here soon or I'm putting my happy ass on a plane to LA to go find my fantasy guy! ;)

early days: I remember a lot, actually. Specifically, I remember that Asher was a very cranky baby until he was about six months old. So wherever I took him, I was always afraid he would suddenly start screaming. Once, when he was 5 weeks old, I took him to the Natural History Museum on a rainy day. He was asleep in the sling, and I figured I still had a little time before I had to take him home to feed him (I wasn't NIP much, since I was having a problem with sore/damaged nipples.) So we went to the cafeteria, where I thought maybe I'd actually be able to eat (I remember not really being able to eat then.) So I'm holding my tray with a slice of hot pizza on it and a cup of frozen yogurt and walking toward the cashier, when all of a sudden, Asher wakes with a jolt and starts SCREAMING. So now I have a squirmy 5-week-old in one hand and a tray in the other. I nearly started crying myself. What I really wanted to do was to put the tray down and run out of there. But a nice lady with two kids took the tray from me and steered me to the front of the line, where I somehow managed to pay, find a seat in the crowded lunchroom, latch Asher on, and eat my pizza. Ah, those early days!

early days: I, unfortunately, didn't know all of you at that time. I doubt that I would have had the energy to type! DS was colicy. He rarely slept more than 3 hours at a time and when he did, I was so sure that he would wake up soon so I didn't let myself go to sleep. I felt very isolated and alone -- DH had a REALLY hard time adjusting to being a father and provided little to no help or support. I was so wired all the time. I remember at exactly three moths everything changed and life started to get fun and we could really enjoy being a family.
Sasha: How is Sarah doing today with the monster rash?

Early Days: I remember being able to plop Aidan into her Papasan and scrapbook for hours between feedings and usually one of Ryan's family was around to feed her so I didn't even have to stop. I also remember being able to take her to the movies. I also fondly remember not having a huge basket of toys in my living room. Ahh...those were the days. I think my all time favorite memory was when we could go get her after she woke up, put her in bed between us and sleep another 2-3 hours. Yeah, no way in heck can that happen now a days...she thinks Mom and Dad's bed is for play!

dreshny: Something about your story about the trip to the museum at 5 weeks old made me all teary eyed. Damn pg hormones. I sooo remember having instances like that, and feeling like I was the only one going through all the newness and getting used to how life had changed so drastically in the blink of an eye. Thinking back, now, we were all just as fresh and new at what we were doing as our precious little fresh newborns we were learning and I emphasize leanrning, how to care for. Such fond memories now, but at the time, it was totally day by day. I wonder if it'll be that way this time? In some ways, I get sad knowing that most likely it will not be that way, and on the other hand, I think of how much easier (i hope ;)) it will be to adjust, since I have a pretty good idea now of what to expect. Not that Reece will be ANYTHING like Landon was. I'm convinced this baby will be the total opposite, I sure hope not...Landon was and still is such an easy baby.

Early Days - Honestly, I can't say I remember them fondly at all. I remember all of Sarah's many digestive issues (LOL, and given our present situation, some things don't change!), and only being able to get her to sleep in her swing. She had to be held to sleep or sleep in the Papasan swing. A friend of mine is due with her first in May '07 and she was telling me she can't wait to have the baby and then be able to catch up on sleep while she is on maternity leave...I literally starting laughing at her when she told me that! ;) I of course remember when Sarah was hospitalized at 7 weeks old with that bizarre case of salmonella poisoning. They had to do a spinal tap on her and I just cried my eyes out, they wouldn't even let me watch. Then when they couldn't get the IV in her in the hospital and she was screaming bloody murder. She was so tiny and helpless and I felt so helpless and scared. Ugh, it makes me upset just remembering all of that.
FP Aquarium - That thing is my alarm clock a few days a week! Sarah loves it, she usually plays with in when she wakes up and before she goes to sleep. She hasn't figured out the volume control yet, and based on what you guys are saying, I feel pretty lucky about that!

LOL, Alicia, that is Sarah almost every morning!
psusna - Thanks for asking....unfortunately it is still there. We have stopped using the medicine on it because we think it is too strong for her. I'm trying Aquafor now, and DH and I think it may have made a slight improvement already. Unfortunately the digestive issues are still there, so we really need to clear them up to clear the rash up. But the doctor now has us collecting samples (ew, so gross, I made DH do it!) so they can run tests to make sure there isn't some sort of infection. Fun stuff, I tell you!

OH rancher for your sake I hope you don't end up with a high needs/terror/stong willing second child like I have. OH gosh when I tell you that my kids are SOO different its and understatment. Yes, I know no two kids/people are the same but I swear if i had not see her be born and of course she looks like me I would say that terror is NOT mine..noway.HEHEHE
My son is the most loving, calm, great listener, never talks back, hardly fresh awseome sleeper/never bite ect ect ect..where as my DD sleeps terrible, is super super fresh, hits/ bites, yells and thows big time fits if even you look at her wrong or redirect her to another area of the house, she will scream in my face, throw toys..ahh gosh what a terror! I can so wait till she gets older. Her and I are going to be in a power stuggle when shes 13 and she wants to do what she wants to do when she wants and I can already see she will not follow our rules..Hopefully on a good note she will grow out of this horrible stage that I honestly don't know how to control because DS was not like this..Ah well vent over..EHHEHE Hears to another easy baby for you.....

Does anyone feel like their kid is always grumpy?? I know Abbey is high needs, but I really feel as if she is always whining and begging me to pick her up. Granted, I only spend time with her from 4pm to 8pm during the week b/c of work and her nap schedule, but still. I feel drained. I want to have fun with my little girl again. :o
Early Days- I keep remembering more as we talk about it. I now recall what Dreshny said about being afraid to leave the house b/c Abbey would cry suddenly. I remember the first time she cried really, really hard. She was about a month old and I guess she got really hungry really fast b/c she turned red and wouldn't latch on (she was p*ssed!!!). I even remember posting about it on here b/c I thought surely she was the only baby who turned beet red and that something was wrong with her. :o I also remember that first week home when she cried incessantly (in retrospect she was probably hungry). The only thing that soothed her was "dancing" to jazz in our sunroom with Daddy. Ahhh, I still can't hear "Fly me to the moon" w/o feeling anxious. ;)
Wow. That was long. I guess I remember a lot more than I thought! :D

ahavnes: Landon has days when he's a complete GRUMP! Nothing seems to make him happy, not even a nap, infact, those are the days he wakes up WORSE off than before he took his nap. Hang in there, those days are NO fun.
early days: I haven't really thought in detail about much, but now that I read your posts, I'm recalling quite a bit.
-Coming home w/ this perfect little person and thinking...."now what?"
- projectile poop for the first few weeks
-Circ. drama the first night home (not sure if I shared that here???) I'm sure I did, it was too funny NOT to have shared.
-Holding him in the glider while he slept for HOURS
-being scared to sleep, for fear he'd stop breathing, but being unbelievably tired.
-taking him w/ me to get pedi's, while he slept in his carseat. (Imgaine that NOW!!!!) Yikes!
-Sobbing uncontrollably over the stupidest things for about the first three weeks. Esp. when my moms week w/ us was up and she went back to work and home.
-and of course, one of the most VIVID memories of Landon's first weeks were Brett's out of the blue seizures. As if we weren't stressed enough?
Actually, now that I sit here really thinking about it, I could type for days, but I'll stop. I need to finish cleaning. Landon's working w/ daddy today. ;)

rancherswife you know I thought that the entire job of a cowboy probably wasn't totally glamorous, but it was fun to think about it...more exciting than my previous or DH's current "office job" - no way to make typing on a computer and dealing with a**holes on the phone all day etc., glamorous :)

Just a quick post before bed.
Kim~I only met up with you all the 1st week of DS's life once the switch was made from WC to CC. See? And in my mind you've just always been here!
Grumpy Kid~It's a wonder I've gotten anything done these last few days! DD is constantly wanting to be read to. I hate complaining and realize that I should thoroughly enjoy this time, but it's exhausting when you have a kid constantly hanging on you. She even brings her books to me when I'm sitting on the toilet. If I don't read to her, she walks around whining or throws a tantrum and end up hurting herself so that I have to pick her up.
Okay, gals! I'm off to bed!

Early Days
- I was also in the afraid to leave the house crowd. Avery would get overstimulated wherever we went (grocery store, Target, the car, our families homes - UGG!), so she would start screaming her fool head off. For a while there, I had to sling and nurse her while walking around the grocery store just so I could get food!
- Calling an LC in tears because we were having some latch problems :o. Thankfully, she was also a post-partum doula so I don't think my tears even phased her!
- Cleaning up a nasty poopy diaper every time she nursed.
Grumpy Grumperson - Occassionally, but it's usually a sign of her being overtired (or hungry) than anything else. Knock on wood ;).
==========
So some alien, from planet MOLARS, came to visit us yesterday and replaced my kiddo with some stranger. First of all, she went down for a nap much later than usual and napped for over 2 hours. Just two hours after getting up from said nap she ASKED (jigga wha??) to go back to bed and slept for another two hours. I figured this meant big trouble for the nighttime routine and I wasn't wrong. She went down for the night at 9:30 instead of 7:30-8 and at midnight she was up-up. As in, I had to take her downstairs until 3am (!!!). She's been drooling up a storm, chewing the heck out of her fingers, has nasty (and numerous) poops, is running a low-grade fever, and hasn't been eating much. This wasn't the routine with the bottom molars, so I'm not sure if we're dealing with a bug in addition to the teething.
IrishEyes
10-27-2006, 06:23 AM
I don't know about anyone else, but teething the canines (cuspids or eye teeth) has been almost as bad as the molars! My kid was whiny and not eating very much for a whole week! I figured that since they were pointy, they would be easier. Go figure.
Early days--
Sore nipples, sitting on the sitz bath, cluster feedings, lots of little naps, projectile poop, screaming bathtimes, sleeptime in the Baby Bjorn. Good times. Do I really want to do it again?

Grumpy ~ Oh yea -- more so than normal. I'm not sure if this is a stage, or if its because he's getting over a cold, and suprise suprise...has an ear infection. Ugh! Hasn't had one of these since daycare :( So, he's on antibiotics again. I'm a lil scared... when he had all those digestive issues before -- it coincided with daycare being a pita about solids, and a bunch of antibiotics. Not sure either of them caused our issues, but the link is there in my mind...this child is now eating (and thank goodness this is one thing he IS actually eating) yogurt like its going out of style...
Speaking of eating... Nic is not eating anywhere near as much as he used to. And...he used to have a really round tummy... for the past week, its flat... anyone else noticing something like this? (He IS teething...we can feel a bump... but, its been there for the past 3 weeks and doesn't seem to be going anywhere..)

Hehe, for us it was "Lonely No More" by Rob Thomas and "When the Sun Goes Down" by Kenny Chesney. I seriously meant to write each of them letters to let them know their songs were lifesavers for us! :p
Grumpy - Oh my yes! Between diaper rash, all the pooping and I think we are gearing up for teething again, she is a major grump. Last night, she freaked at bathtime...hysterical screaming, had to be held. The only thing that truly appeases her? Elmo. She wants Elmo all the time when we are home. And this is one habit I do not want to get into, so it has been a struggle.
Sarah's daycare had their Halloween parade this morning. LOL, what a zoo! Screaming and crying kids everywhere. But it was cute. Sarah wasn't terribly happy about putting her costume on this morning, but once we got to daycare, that was ok. But she started crying for me once the parade started, so I ended up carrying her around (as did many parents with their kids, lol). I'll post some pictures once I get a chance to upload them.

Grumpy Gus: Count us in too. He has been super clingy with both of us lately (usually it's just me if he is not feeling well).
Happy: That is exactly what we went through the last two weeks. He hardly ate anything at lunch and dinner, however this week he is back to cleaning his plate at lunch and eating more dinner but still not 100%. He has popped 4 teeth in 2 weeks. As far as his tummy shape goes -- yes, his is getting flatter. It seems that he has grown a lot lately -- almost like we can see him stretching out. He's still got a little roundness to him but not like it was a few months ago.
Tomorrow is our neighborhood halloween parade and party. We'll see if our little pirate will put his costume on or not. I'm not too optimistic, but we'll see. At least the weather should cooperate.
Thanks again for all of your positive thoughts for my dad. We are all feeling more positive as the week goes on so we'll see what Thursday brings. Thanks again :)

Nevertheless, we're getting good use out of her "Dorothy" costume, so I'm happy. :) She also had her school "Fall Festival" yesterday and came home with a little pumpking tattoo, which is so cute and she loves it.

So, I got inspired since a bunch of our kids are dipping demons, and made a dipping sauce for dinner tonight. We had baked chicken and broccoli to dip in a honey mustard sauce... Well, we threw the chicken to the dog (he doesn't really like chicken, so i figured that one was coming), ate 3 pieces of broccoli that mommy dipped, dipped a few things for the dog.... and then forgot all about dinner as he licked dip off his fingers til it was all gone. <grrr> DH tells me tonight that we need to stop giving Nic milk because he thinks that is what is making him not eat...he just fills up on milk and then has no use for food... hmmm.... (he LOVES his milk)
Costume use ~ Well... he hasn't worn it yet. I gotta get crackin and take some pics before he actually wears it... not sure if he's gonna wear it to church this weekend, but we do aardvarks on tues, so he'll wear it there...then we have a costume party on sat, so he can wear it there too... i'd say we're getting more use out of it than i thought we would... jrdh: James is too much! I think he was definitely feeling the Superman costume. That monkey costume photo looks like it's out of a catalogue -- awesome :)
tgray: Aidan is working the fairy!
18mo WBV questions: We go on Friday so I started thinking about this. I have some questions about behavior and discipline/reinforcing positive behavior, Jackson being around my dad post-surgery, and a vax schedule past 18 months. I'm also curious to know why taking off clothes is a milestone -- DS has no interest in trying this. I'm open to any ideas others have as well.

trick or treat Going trick or treating today, so hopefully i'll have pictures to post later..if DD will let me put the thing on her...which most likely will not happen.

Last night my DH and I had a Halloween party and we really wanted to go , so we brought both the kids..EHHEHE i felt like a rebel since i never keep my kids out late(unless i am at family parties ect). They had a good time and since they were the only kids everyone played with them and they loved all the attention.

The big NYC Central Park Halloween party was yesterday...and it got rained out. I mean, it got set up, but then there was torrential rain, so no one went. We were counting on it for the photo op: several farms donate pumpkins, and the parks dept. makes a huge "pumpkin patch" in the middle of the park. All the kids get to pick a pumpkin to take home. Last year we propped Asher on a bale of straw and took pictures. This year, after the rain stopped, we made our way down there to see if anything was left, and members of the parks dept. were loading all the pumpkins into a sanitation truck. :( What a waste! We rescued two of them, so I guess we'll set up our own photo op in the park today.

Rain
Yeah, the local festival with pumpkin painting, 'picking', story-telling, music, face painting, and all that was rained out as well. :(
Halloween
Well Tuesday we have a Halloween party for 0-3yo's the local moms group is hosting at The Little Gym. We'll be doing that, then the kids in my building will be trick-or-treating from 6-8pm so I'll have DS dressed up to help me answer the door and hand out candy. Should be a fun day!
18mo WBV
Ummm...flu shots, growth rate (will it slow down now?), why can't my kid recognize a single body part ;) , eating with spoon/fork, milk ounces per day...that's all I can think of for now!
Everyone's kids look so cute all dressed up. :D I have been reading along, but not as chatty as usual. but i am here!
News!
We met with a realtor yesterday, and our condo should be on the market within 2 weeks. Crazy! So I could be moving anytime between the holidays and next spring...right when baby #2 is due.   Can you say OMG what does my future hold? Needless to say, I feel a bit up in arms right now. I am such a planner, and I have no clue what's going to happen or when.
Oh, and throw in there the huge project DH is working on and we don't even know whether we'll be celebrating the holidays with the ILs in Chicago either. So there may be last-minute flights, or last-minute holidays at home (for the 1st time EVER!). Ak!

I don't know about anyone else, but teething the canines (cuspids or eye teeth) has been almost as bad as the molars! My kid was whiny and not eating very much for a whole week! I figured that since they were pointy, they would be easier. Go figure.
great...I'm *thrilled* to hear that! fun times ahead!
psusna your "arg" pirate is adorable/
tgray cute fairy! I love that she is holding the wand!
jrdhbunny Your superman/monkey is adorable.
costumes we've used it several times already - a mall store halloween party, we wore it at the pumpkin patch. We have a kiddie halloween potluck lunch with friends on Halloween day and of course trick or treating halloween night.
Halloween festivities sorry the rain has cancelled so many! Hoping Tuesday is dry.
Kim great news on the condo! I hope all goes quickly!
18 mo WBV we are still going monday eventhough she still has a cold, the nurse said to have her come in and they will decide about vaxes etc.
questions:
how much milk should she be drinking each day?
when to see the dentist for the first time
how much should she be sleeping (she sleeps a lot!)
flouride - we use bottled water, should I be using tap (filtered through brita or something)
DD had bad ezcema in the past, with winter coming I want to see what else I might do to prevent it...
How is her weight/are their concerns, she still seems light to me...hoping to hit 20 lbs though...
diaper rash well DD has it bad too - I think yeast. I went out when DD was napping in the PM yesterday and left her with DH. She got up while I was out and I assumed DH changed her (he *forgot*). By the time I took her for the bath, she had been sitting in poop for hours probably. She screamed through the entire bath and wouldn't sit in the water. I feel terrible. My nose has been stuffed up and I can't smell anything, plus she was not complaining. Ughh, I should have checked but she had already pooped twice before...bad mommy, bad daddy - live and learn. :( Not to mention the ped gets to see it tomorrow, what a great mom I am!
DST well she woke up at 7:00 - which was really 6 and I let her play for 30 minutes. We had breakfast at 6:30...yikes, by 9:30 she was ready for a nap...She had been getting up at 8:30 or even 9 all week, she picks this one day to get up early..figures. :)

Teeth: My mom said that eye-teeth are the hardest to cut because their roots are so long and are the "cornerstones" of the arch so they create a great deal of pressure when they force their way down. Not looking forward to those babies coming in. Molars have been enough of a pain!

Kim- Ack! That's a lot of uncertainty, but it must feel good to get your condo on the market. If it helps, I moved when I was nearly 8 months pregnant with Abbey. Granted, I didn't have a child to care for, but it really wasn't that bad. The stress of finding a place in time was much worse than the actual moving part. ;)

I am a couple of my friends who just went thru this totally agree!
DS is a drooling, salivating, biting, teething mess...and he wants his teething pacifiers all the time because he holds them horizontally and bites down on them into that little space where the tooth is coming (all others around them are in). Youch!

kim ~ Teething pacifiers? What are those? (nic has a "popsicle" teether that we put in the freezer..same thing?) And... yikes...that is a lot of uncertainty. BUT, all you can do is take it one day at a time and see where it takes ya... hopefully to a new house asap :) ...

They are the Nam silicone "gem" pacifiers (clear nipple, bold-color but clearish base) with massaging bumps for teething. Looking for them is either hit or miss- there are none, or there is a whole row of them! I found some at Buy Buy Baby recently. The nipple is bumpy on one side and has raised waves on the other. I can't find a pic online, but can take one if you're really interested.

DST: He woke up at 6:10 (new time) which is ok b/c that is what time he wakes during the week. His nap was another story. He wanted to go down at 10 and only held out until 10:15. He slept until noon so he needed another nap around 4 for an hour. I don't know how he's going to make it until 11:45 tomorrow. He went down at his normal 7:30 time tonight. After dinner he kept looking outside and going "What?" like -- hey, why is it dark?!
18mo questions: Thank you ladies!! I was drawing a complete blank here -- great ideas.
Kim: Holy cow -- could you have any more going on right now?! I'm sure everything will work out. Come on new house.....
teething: Boy, can't wait for the eye teeth  He had cut four teeth in the past week and still working on more.
alien: Hope the rash clears up!

So apparently my son was a complete angel while I was out of town. DH said that he ate great and was in a great mood. Only downside, his morning wake up time as been 4:30, 5:00.
You don't even want to know what time he woke up today.
Happy I was resisting the monkey costume b/c I thought a lot of kids would have it but I have to say Nic looks so cute!
So does James, and Aidan, Jackson, and Abby!
Cranky After the male bonding with Daddy, DS has become a real crank. Today I took him out for the afternoon so DH could get some stuff done. While in Lowes', I became that mom. The one who sternly scolds their child in the middle of the aisle. But he was crying the whole time to get out of the cart and when I finally relented, he wanted to push. What a mess.
TeethI have no idea which one it is but we have more right now. DS was a slobbering fool on my keys.
18 month Not much really besides speech or lack there of. Still not too worried about it since he's getting a few more words in the last few days. And we finally have the "please" sign down though it looks like he's wiping his hands on his shirt.
We found out that our 4 yr old niece is allergic to all nuts and cats. So no PB for us for a long time.

What adorable kiddos all dressed up and man how they have grown!!
psuana - Jack is the same pirate!!
daylight savings - was very good to us and that is all I am saying!
FREAK OUT - Jack freaked out for 45 minutes yesterday while I was working a baby fair for my new biz. When I walked in the door he was still freaking out who knows what that was all abou. He did when he woke up from a nap today also? What gives? He can tell us if he wants a drink, eat, read a book, needs helps, hurts, etc all through sign language so it is very frustrating bc I tend to think something is seriously wrong. He has been able to been calmed down but what the heck is going on? Ear infection, more teeth - whatever it is GO AWAY!!
Tuesday we find out the sex of #2!!

I love all the Halloween pictures. Asher has the same monkey costume as James and Nic. I figured it would be a popular one...but whatever. We'll look back on the pictures in 10 years or so, and no one will remember that everyone had that same costume, just that our baby looked adorable in it.
Roseola: So Asher was kind of irritable for the latter part of last week, not eating much and up 6+ times a night. I figured he was teething (and he is cutting his 8th tooth, bottom incisor), gave him a little Motrin at night, and didn't think much of it (except that I was exhausted.) I did notice he had a fever last night, and in retrospect, he had it for a few days. Today, he broke out in a rash all over his body. Lovely. Not teething, but roseola, or Sixth Disease: a childhood illness in which your child appears basically fine, though he has a fever, may be a little irritable, and has decreased appetite. Just as the fever breaks and your child starts to feel better, he breaks out in a head-to-toe rash.
Well, at least that explains some things...

Monkies: Count us in as one of the Old Navy Monkey's for Halloween!!! They are just too cute! :)
Love, Love, Love all of the pics. everyone has posted lately. happy, great idea for the grandmother's calenders, I had just decided that that is what we are doing for grandparents this year for x-mas too! I'll have to do a cute pic. of Landon in his monkey costume on Tuseday for October!
kim: WOW! Yay for the condo going on the market, hope everything happens quick, though it would be tough, but over in enough time to be ready for #2 to arrive. Which brings me to my next ???, when's your u/s?? I'm so sure you're having a girl, just want it confirmed! ;) Oh, and no worries on Thomas not identifying body parts, Landon's only got eye down, and only says it when he's trying to poke ours out of their sockets! Nice! Other than that, he could care less where anything else is, oh wait...he's got pee pee down too! Go figure!
bottle: we went cold turkey fromt he bottle last night w/ NO PROBLEMS!!! YAY!!! Now, the only problem is how to get him to drink milk???? He WILL NOT take it out of a sippy???
dreshny: Poor Asher, a nice rash, just in time for Halloween! That's OK, dh came home today "not sure" if he got into poison oak today. Lovely, we'll all be covered in it it a couple of days, I'm sure! Hope Asher is feeling better soon.
teeth: I pitty every single one of you whose children are getting those canine's in!!! That was the worst couple of weeks EVER for us!!! Hang in there!
18 mo. WBV: DAMN! I haven't even thought about this yet. He has his in the beg. of December. He'll be getting the flu shot and other vax's, of course. In fact, he'll actually get the flu shot next weekend, our office is having a "flu shot clinic" on Saturday, I just remembered. Hope he takes well to the shot, he didn't get it last year, he was too young when they offered them. I've gotta get mine too. Thinking about dh getting his too, since Reece is going to be born right in the midst of flu season!
Ok...off to pop popcorn for Desperate Housewives!!!

DST - Went better than I could have ever imagined! Because Sarah and Joshua played their little hearts out all day long, she was wiped and slept almost 12 hours! So she slept until 7:00am new time/8:00pm old time!
Dreshny - Sorry about the roseola, hope Asher feels better quickly.
Kim - I'm exhausted after just reading about everything you have going on!
Alien - Oh I can so commiserate with the diaper rash situation. Hope it clears up quickly.

The little ones look so cute in their costumes!
Rancherswife: Will Landon drink from a straw? Collin loves his straw cups and he even loves it when I put a straw in a cup I'm drinking from. He'll suck it right down.
DST: It was not nice to us. DS is waking an hour earlier and taking 2 naps instead of one. I'm trying to push his nap back a half an hour each day to get back to our one nap. Otherwise he'll be sleeping during our playgroup, library session and gym class. :(
Teeth: The only ones we have left are the upper secondary molars. The whole molar thing has taken months and has been such a nightmare. Waking up from naps screaming and chewing on everything. I feel so bad.
Roseanne: Poor Asher! I hope the rash goes away quickly.

dreshny ~ Ugg, that sounds terrible...hope it clears up quick :)
Ranchers ~ Well, Nic is NOT a fan of milk either. He won't drink it, but he LOVES almond milk. So, that's what he drinks instead. Nic does like yogurt though... so he gets that at least twice a day. I also try to sneak milk into stuff like oatmeal, banana shakes are a hit (banana+milk in blender)... I really have to sit down and research the whole milk thing though... I'm sure he's probably not getting enough... (although I've also read, don't ask me to back it up cause its sooo long ago now) that they only really need a source of milk til age 2... so, its really only a short term prob, i think...
DST ~ Not doing well here either. Nic went to bed at 6 last night(unheard of)... We'll see what today brings...
So... is anyone else NOT talking yet? Nic says dada and uhoh. He babbles other sounds... but those are his only two words. At Sunday dinner yesterday (my whole family gets together), we kept asking nic to find so-and-so and say their name. He found everyone all right, but everyone's name, according to nic, was dada. I know he understands...he can follow simple directions, etc. but... no words AT ALL... (not even mama, and he's a TOTAL mama's boy. I too, however am dada.)

Oh, and no worries on Thomas not identifying body parts, Landon's only got eye down, and only says it when he's trying to poke ours out of their sockets! Nice! Other than that, he could care less where anything else is, oh wait...he's got pee pee down too!
LMAO! Thomas just looks at us like we're complete freaks when we ask where's this (point it out) where's that (point it out). but when we say "where's your pee-pee" he laughs, we point it out and he'll grab it and roll around in hyterics. Boys.
Talking
Nope. A nd most of what he used to say, he won't say anymore. Though right now he's big into giving you things and saying "Here" when he puts it in your hand. For how much DH and I talk, this delay is a shocker!
But then again, I was just reading about physical milestones in Parenting and he can do some things well now at almost 17mo that the mag said most kids can't do until sometimes in their second year. Like run and deliberately kick a ball. Throw and catch small balls. He also swings a golf club at a small ball, holding the club the right way. Its' funny, like they pick one thing to focus on and that's that.

kim: Must be something with the name we share (I'm a Kim too ;)) Patients is NOT in my vocabulary!!! With anything! Drives dh nuts. I'm a major planner w/ no patients! Hopefully w/ the holiday and all your other goings ons...time will fly by and it'll be the 28th before you know it! :)
dst: Well, between the no bottle thing and dst, we're actually OK. See, w/ giving up the bottle, that in turn, forced us to have him CIO from at 5 am. I KNEW he was only waking up for his milk. Cause he'd come into bed w/ us and go back to sleep after drinking his milk. So....I told dh, then plan was, no bottle and let him CIO at 5 a.m. when he wakes up. Sunday morning he woke (like clockwork) at 4 a.m. (new time) and I went in his room , patted him back down and told him it was not time to get up yet. He cried for about 10 mins. and was back to sleep until 6 a.m. (new time). Same thing this morning, but he only cried for about 2 mins. So, that said, it's not going too bad, considering. He's still a 2x a day napper, so nothing's changed there. We put him down at 8 pm. last night w/ out a fight, his last nap was around 3:30 and he only slept for about 45 mins.!
happy and jmvan: Thanks for the milk suggestions. Maybe I'll try almond milk. We've tried the straw thing, no luck. He loves drinking water out of a straw, but nothing else. He thinks he's getting a big treat when he drinks out of a straw! ;)

Happy 1~Hehe! Love the banana! Nic is so cute!
Dreshny~Ugh! Hope Asher is feeling better. He is such a cutie in his costume!
Ranchers~Congrats on a relatively smooth weekend considering the two big changes he made! Another cute monkey you've got there!
Sasha~Aww!! Sarah is so cute!
Meri~Lovin' the little ladybug!
Disney~I love the peacock costume!! So cute!
Halloween Plans~Well, tomorrow is it!! I already have Shylah's costume set out and ready to go. We are doing our usual library day tomorrow, so all the gals there will get to see her all dressed up. I found out today that the newspaper is taking pictures of all the kids who show up in costume, so we'll most likely be running by there as well. Then it is off to DH's last day of work to see all his coworkers. It's supposed to be a pretty relaxed day there with all the activities going on. After that, I'll probably run down to the college campus to visit my old professors and organization sponsors. ;) When DH gets home from work, we'll take DD around to a few houses in town (ILs, my parents, DH's cousin, GMILs, etc) for some candy. Then we'll head to ILs to help them hand out candy since our end of town doesn't see a lot of trick-or-treaters.

18 mo WBV
weight 19 lbs 10.5 ozs
Height - 32.25 inches
head - 18.75 inches
2 shots - flu and DTaP
The WBV went OK. Ped wants to see her in 1 month for a weight check - she gained nearly a pound in 3 months but is still in the 5th percentile. She isn't too concerned since she has been growing along that %tile most of her life and since I'm petite. Also since DD just started walking after her 15 mo WBV she took that into account. She still has some suggestions...
Ped recommends "doctoring her milk" with heavy cream or Carnation Instant Breakfast to add some more calories. She said she should drink 20-24 ozs of milk but DD only has 9-12 at most, plus some water. She just doesn't usually consume that much fluids (sometimes only 2-3 ozs at a meal).
We talked about letting her dip veggies in cheese sauce or dressing. Adding olive oil to pasta/veggies. Lots of cheese was recommended since she isn't a big meat or egg eater.
Yesterday I went to the store to get the Carnation stuff - it has so much sugar though. She didn't even love it (I gave it to her as a snack, afraid to do it at every meal b/c I don't want her to dislike plain milk). She then refused zucchini sauteed in EVOO, pasta w EVOO/parmesean. Maybe I tried to many of the things at once.
Sorry for the vent, I just feel like I'm doing something wrong...:( She is an OK eater but loves veggies (plain) and fruit which just don't bulk her up.
Other than that, her appointment was fine. Ped didn't ask a lot of questions - # words, is she running, using a sippy cup, I think there were others mixed in the discussion - they don't go through a list a lot just is asked "so does she do this".
here's the prof pic we got of DD for free at the mall - Babystyle had a Halloween party and gave us a coupon. Of course she is trying to tear the hood off! and don't mind the non-matching shoes, I meant to take them off but after waiting in a huge line I forgot...

Thanks Disney - Babystyle is fun, they had a Halloween party with storytime, free photo at the studio in the mall, coloring, snacks - it was a zoo but fun. I heard their costumes are now $5 in stores but other than the peacock I don't love the others. I might see if they have anything left for dress-up/next year (my store never had the peacock in stock :()

These Halloween costumes are just too cute! Everyone looks adorable. Seriously, how does everyone get their kids to smile so well for the camera!? Sarah becomes so serious when she sees a camera, it is tough to get her to smile for pictures.

Happy Halloween!! I love all of the costumes -- everyone is just adorable. I sent my little pirate off to school today (sans hat and coat -- that's just too much bother for school). Here's hoping the pants and shirt come home clean enough for trick or treat (all 2 homes we are going to before bed!)
Alien: I posted in your thread in the 18mo section re: weight gain but I wanted to pop in here and say that you are doing a great job with her! She's thriving, developing right on track -- please don't feel bad, she's just doing her own thing :)

alien ~ Don't beat yourself up. Actually, if you read Dr Fuhrmans Disease Proof Your Child, she's ahead of the game... (He suggests raw nuts, seeds, and avacados for fats) But says that the whole standard weight thing is too high for optimal health... (he's a little out there, but seems well researched... he's very pro fruits/veggies and thinks everyone should eat way more of them)
sasha ~ Try doing a very exaggerated aaaa-choooo sneeze right before you click the camera. My mom got me a book on baby photography, and it says that that is a fool-proof way to get a baby to smile (of course, if you are out in public... well... have fun with that )
Happy Halloween !!!

Oh my gosh, I am LOVING these pictures. So cute. I also love the peacock costume! Abbey would never put up with anything on her head though.
Ok, so can we talk about diaper rash???? I know we have lots of experts in here! ;) Abbey's little bum is so red for some reason. Not blistery or anything, just looks like a sunburn. What's up with that? I've never seen it before. Also, do you find that your kids are more irritable when they have diaper rash? And do they cry when they poop? Sorry to be so graphic, but Abbey was so cranky last night and her daycare teacher said she seemed to be in pain when she had to poo, but it wasn't hard or anything. (Gross! I can't believe I am typing this...look what motherhood has done to me! :))
TIA!

Hey.. random quick question. Every once in a while, Nic shakes for no reason. It only happens like, once a week or once every other week... I don't think he even knows he does it. But his whole body will shake. Any one else see their kid do this? (and he's only done it like4-5 times, but the last two were kinda close together...)
lady ~ Congrats on the boy...brothers :)

psusna/happy thanks for your encouragment, I actually feel better about it today. I must need a day to let it sink in, I tend to over react :)
Ladybug congrats! (cute pirate too!)
ahavnes try using wet paper towels instead of wipes for a bit, blot/dry her tush with a tissue and apply balmex/desitin etc. or vaseline with every change for several days. I think you can also add baking soda to the bath water to soothe the area. I've never seen DD complain with a diaper rash when pooping but she has screamed during the cleaning/wiping process. I hope it gets better soon!!!! too much diaper rash going on here....
Well DD had a short AM nap b/c I had to wake her to go to a halloween party. Now she won't nap this PM, trick or treating should be a real treat! I'm hoping she isn't too crabby...

I got a call from Day Care today at around 2:30 to come pick Aidan up. It seems when she woke up from her nap her eye was swollen, red and runny. Pink eye is very contaigious in a day care so I had to come pick her up. Luckily it wasn't yesterday when I was in my class alone! My lead teacher told me to go ahead and go, she'd take care of our kids for the rest of the day (she's great). I got the last appointment of the day and by the time we got in to see the doc, her eye was fine. Turns out it was allergies. So, I have to go pick up her prescription for Zyrtec on Saturday. I don't have the time or the patience to wait 2 hours on a weekday. Oy talk about crazy! So, since she's so snotty and croupy from her allergies, we aren't trick or treating tonight. Hope everyone enjoys their Halloween!

ladybug: LOVE Jack!! I just want to squeeze him! I hope that he enjoyed his pirate as much as Jackson did :) Congratulations on the second boy!
tgray: I'm glad Aidan didn't have pink eye! I had that last Christmas and it's miserable. I'm still not sure how DS didn't get it.
DS had more fun passing out candy tonight than going to get candy. He had a blast! He was dancing around, singing, waving to everyone -- then he chewed through a small pack of MnMs and was on a sugar buzz  I hope that he wore himself out to sleep better than last night (up 3xs).

how does everyone get their kids to smile so well for the camera!?
I pretend I am allergic to DS, making silly exaggerated sneezes.
Also, having a digital camera I'll take about 500 of the same shot and delete the 498 he's either not smiling or moving around in!
Lots to catch up on as well, like the rash (DS has one) and the shaking (DS does this at times) but too tired after a long day of celebrating Halloween!

I'm completely shameless. I jump up and down, make weird noises, fake sneeze, play peek-a-boo...
We spent Halloween at an after-hours party at the Children's Museum, and Asher really enjoyed himself. Hope you all had a great Halloween!

Well, we are in at ILs for the night. Today, we visited Gma at the library, DH at work, my collegiate alma mater, and both Gpa's at work. We also ran to the newspaper to get her picture taken for tomorrow's paper. :) DH and I took her trick-or-treating to Ggma's house, my parents house, and ILs neighbors. She didn't nap at all today, but now she's crashed out on Gpa's lap. :D
Ladybug~Congrats on boy #2!! :D Jack is absolutely an adorable pirate!!
tgray~Sorry about Aiden's allergies. Thank goodness, though, that it wasn't pink eye.
Sasha~Yep! I'm about as shameless as Kim and Roseanne! She'll say "cheese" too when she's in the mood. Then she starts looking around for some to eat, so we have to snap the picture quick. Like Kim said, we have a digi cam, so we can delete the bad ones.
Allyray~Aiden is soooooooo cute!! I love the pumpkin tee as well!

Aww, more adorable costume pictures!
Sarah wasn't very into trick or treating, LOL. She refused to carry her wand or her Halloween bag, instead wanting to carry some bean bag balls. We went to a few neighbors' houses to show off her costume. Then we came home to pass out candy and only 3 kids came to our house! I have more Reece's cups and Kit Kats than I would like, and my willpower isn't strong. :p
Thanks for the camera tips. I try to ham it up too, but she generally looks at me like I am a loon. I tried the exaggerated sneeze last night, and she just copied what I did! Silly kid....

how does everyone get their kids to smile so well for the camera!?
Take 1345 pictures, like Kim and jump around and make an ass of myself. I always try and get down on his level to decrease that looking up stare. He's now figured out the LCD display on my camera (I can turn mine around for self portraits) so he barely sits before he wants to come around and see.
I was going to post a photo from last nightbut I see some lurkers in this thread so going to hold off. We went to handful of houses and he had fun. We tried to handout candy but not too many kids on our hilly court.

DD had a blast last night. We took her to 5 or 6 neighbors that we know well. She cried at the first house but once they started putting candy in her bucket she figured it out and started helping herself. By the second house she was a pro - picking out candy from the bowl and putting it into her bag.

photos she rarely looks at the camera and if she does she comes running over. I have a lot of profile shots. I do the jumping around etc but it doesn't work anymore. I'll have to try the sneezing.

Abbey absolutely loved trick or treating last night. We went with 2 other families in our neighborhood (who also have May babies) and all 3 kids seemed to really enjoy it, although Abbey was definitely the most enthusiastic. When she saw all of the older kids, she started running from house to house. Forget the sidewalk, she just ran across the grass! It was too cute. She ended up staying out for almost 2 hours! We were shocked. She also tried to share her candy with everyone, and actually made a couple of trades throughout the night. I’ll post pics soon I hope, b/c she looked really cute with her pumpkin bucket (which she loved carrying).
alienhost- Thanks for the advice! :)
Getting happy pictures- We have no problem with this whatsoever, as Abbey is a total ham. She lights up when she sees the camera. Just like Mommy. ;)

Alicia - I just realized I never answered your diaper rash question. What did the trick this past time was Aquafor, frequent changes, and washing out the wipes with water. I bought the Pampers Sensitive wipes and even those I washed out first. In the past I have used Butt Paste, but this time that didn't do the trick. Sarah was way more irritable when we were in the throws of the rash. Every time she pooped, she cried. Diaper changes were horrible. I hope it clears up quickly for Abbey, I know how much it sucks.

Nikki loved Trick or treating. She walked up to every house and put out her basket for them to drop her treats in. Its was so cute! We took the kids out for about an hr and a half and she was pooped by the time we walked back to our house.
We had about a little over 200 kids come thru and the lady at the top of the complex said she had much more. I kinda figured we would not get as many as them since we live all the way in the back of the complex and there are still houses being built and we don't yet have street lights.

Disney ~ That is strange...and you'd think that if they were going to attach their business card, it would be to something better than a dum dum...
I just have to share...my dh is such a nerd. Anyway, he's been on the quest for a tmx elmo for NIc for Christmas. He wrote a program that would email him the second it became available, and it even flashed the message across our tv if it was on (he was going to have the computer announce it too so that he'd catch it whether or not we were watching tv, but I nixed that one) ... Anyway, yesterday he supposedly scored one! I'm not going to totally believe it til we see it in the house, but... (of course...I'm going to let Nic have it for a week or so...then I'm taking it away because I think its the perfect gift for the new baby to give NIc at the hospital... talk about re-gifting...)

Don't you guys go insulting my favorite show! :p ;)
I have to get out an OT vent because I am having a mini-freak out right now. Our health insurance is through my job and we got a letter last night saying our coverage had been terminated! I got on the phone this morning with the company that does all of our HR stuff and they said that they had mailed the information out to my employer letting them know we needed to change plans because the one we were currently on was being eliminated, and my employer was supposed to let me know. Well they never did, and because they never received anything from us, the company just waived our health insurance! I am beyond pissed off right now. The HR company isn't sure how long it will take to get us re-instated once I fill out the paperwork. DH has a diabetes appt next week, Sarah has her 18 month appt in a few weeks, and I was thinking about going to the doctor myself because I can't get rid of this cough and congestion. I am so mad right now I can't even think straight. My bosses aren't here right now, but when I talk to them, there will certainly be some words exchanged!
