My best friend just told me that she is pregnant! She is now starting her 2nd trimester. We live in separate cities, but I'm going to see her next week. I wanted to give her a little gift to congratulate her. Does anyone have any fun suggestions? Thanks!

If she's like me, baby items early on might make her nervous, just because of the "jinx" factor.

But if you found her a bright, pretty scarf or necklace or other accessory she might like, that's something I would have loved. Once you get into the maternity clothes, what you have available to wear is really limited and there are certainly days where you just feel heavy and ugly and fat, even if you don't have any nausea (particularly early in the 2nd trimester, when you feel like people can't necessarily tell that you're pregnant and might just be asking, gee, did she really gain some weight or what?). A really pretty necklace or scarf or something can certainly brighten up that same old maternity outfit you've already worn 14 times this month!

That is a great idea! I wanted to get her something personal and for her alone (not the baby yet). I will have to do some shopping today!

The book "Baby Bargains", Kristy on the boards here bought it for me, and it's been just about the greatest help with baby stuff. They do all the 'shopping' for you and tell you about great deals and things for baby stuff. I've spent hours pouring over that book, and will be buying it for my friends when they become pregnant as well.

I'll second the Baby Bargains book!

What about a gift certificate out to dinner for her & her DH before the baby comes? Their life is going to change pretty dramatically after that little one comes & it's nice to get some husband/wife time in.

A gc for a massage or manicure/pedicure would be nice too. I got one when I was pregnant and it was so nice to pamper myself a little when I was waddling around feeling like a house!

Congrats to your best friend- how exciting!! Dh and I's very good friends are also having a baby (due in Dec.), and we sent along a congrats package when we found out. It was more for Jen, so we put in some pregnancy related spa products to pamper her and a copy of Baby Bargains and The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. We also added a copy of My Boys Can Swim for her DH, which was a big hit. I also think the gift certificate for a "date" with DH or a manicure/pedicure would be wonderful too-we would have done that but they live so far away!

I want to "third" the suggestion for the Baby Bargains book!

Also, I'm starting my 2nd tri and I am dying for a pregnancy massage!! If anyone were to give me a gc for a massage right now, I would be in heaven. I think that is a great gift for any pg lady. :)

I'll so agree with PP'ers - pregnancy massage. Pure, unadulterated heaven!

Does anyone else have any good suggestions? My cousin halfway across the country just told me she's pg & I'd love to send a little treat her way. I think a massage seems like a great idea but I don't know about a reputable place in her area so any other inspiration would be helpful too.

Thanks!

One of my friends who lilves cross country gave me a subscription to Fit Pregnancy and a parenting magazine. I love getting it every month and with so many other things to buy, a mag. subscription wasn't on the top of my list. Plus, it was easy to send!
