Hi everyone! I was waiting for the new thread to start to jump back in. I am so bad about keeping up with these things, but I will try to be better at it. I think I've just been down because we are in a holding pattern, but I know I will get more support if I actually post in here! We have an RE appt for October 10th, so just waiting for that. I'm not charting this month and it feels really good to not have to think about the thermometer all the time! Not to mention the stress of worrying about every little temp rise and fall. That has really been getting to me. I may stop charting altogether depending on what happens at the RE.

Big congrats to suzfuzsunflower!!! That is awesome that you are now one of "those stories" ;) I hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months and beyond!

Threadmistress, please update my stats to include: 10/10/06- RE appointment. Thanks!

Super BIG congratulations to Suz!!! Have you found out how far along you are? You have to update us.

And yes, you are one of the damn stories we hate to hear but so what, your pregnant!! Now just tell everyone that knows you to never repeat your story as this “relax” scenario because my friend… blah-blah-blah. LOL.

In all seriousness, I am so happy for you.

Threadmaster – thank you SO much for putting this together and keep everything current. You rock!

Well, I've been lurking for a good few months, and we've officially been TTC over a year now, so I guess now is as good a time as any to post my stats and actually join this thread.

Married: September 4th, 2004
Angel: Allison Grace, June 17th 2005 @ 22wks, 6dys

Issues: Annov. cyles/delayed ovulation
11/05: HSG Clear
6/06: m/c @ 6 wks (low progesterone)
9/06: First cycle on 50mg Clomid

So, here we are, on Clomid. Today is CD7, I go in for my follicle scan next Wednesday (CD13). No side effects to speak of, so I guess that's good, but it's one of those times where you almost want side effects so you feel like it might be working, ya know?

Anyway, I'm really glad this thread is here, I've learned a lot reading along in the last few months. I don't know how much I'll actually post, but I'll try to keep up.

ptcrn, when I first put away my thermometer, it felt so weird to get out of bed in the morning w/o temping, but also very freeing. I hope your RE appt gets here fast.

LDS Angel, welcome. I hope you're not in this thread for long! I'm glad the Clomid isn't bothering you. I hope you see great results at your u/s next week.

skb, yay for a much sooner IVF consult! I'm sorry you have to go that route, but I'll be there with you every step of the way, as will all the fabulous IVF ladies.

No update for us today. I called and the nurse said the embryology lab is very strict about not giving updates between Day1 and Day3. :( I just wanted to know how many of ours were still growing. It's so hard to not be able to plan whether or not I'll have Saturday to run errands before starting bed rest! So, since I won't know till tomorrow I've decided to take the morning off from work and do them then. I'll get everything done and ready for bed rest before 10, that way when they call, if we're on, I'm all set. And if we're getting pushed to Sunday, I'll have less to do on Saturday!

Welcome LDS Angel. I hope Clomid does the trick for you and you'll be out of here in no time!

I hope that saying rings true for you as TM, isign.

JJsanner - I have a few questions, if you don't mind, nor anyone else if this applies. I have a PCOS DX, that came from blood work. I passed the fasting test - 6 hours, and really all my bloodwork came back fine except for the FSH:LH (i think I typed that right) which was not super high. I've never had an HSG done, and the u/s was monitoring during clomid. I'm not O'ing on my own, but did O on 150 of clomid. Anyway, the question - is your Dr doing anything to treat PCOS or are ya'll just focusing on the PG part? Is there anything that can be done to treat PCOS?

gymwidow
09-21-2006, 03:11 PM
jnshanna, yup, time off is good. But I always end up feeling so guilty for not being here! Plus I have a huge presentation on Monday and if I can't be here, a colleague will have to do it for me. Sigh. Oh, well, it'll be worth it when we end up pg!

isign, I'll jump in here. I have PCOS and from what I understand, if you're trying to get pregnant, the treatment is usually Clomid (followed by injectables if the Clomid doesn't work). My doctor wouldn't give me the Clomid until after I had had an HSG and DH had a SA done - she said there was no point in treating me with meds until we knew that we didn't have any other issues to deal with. Treatment for PCOS if you're not trying to get pregnant is usually BCP. It's the best way to regulate your cycle. I think some women have had success with Metformin, but I'm not sure how long you can take that for. As for me, I hate BCP and refuse to go back on them after we have babies, so I plan to try to control my PCOS with acupuncture and alternative therapies. We'll see if that works...

Thank you for the new thread, Isign!

Just quickly checking in. I think I o'd yesterday (at CD 12 - based on CM observations and O pain only), it seems my O is happening early since my surgery. I got mad at DH last night b/c our timings been off, and he complained about how during the fertile time it's all about insemination. :rolleyes: As if me trying to get him off is the worst thing in the world, boo-frickin-hoo. Yes, I am in a bad mood today. WTH am I spending money on acupuncture for (not to mention surgery and ultrasounds) if we can't get the timing right? The seeing what happens approach is nice in theory, but it just isn't going to work for us. But of course, getting mad didn't work either...bleah.

Suz I just wanted to add again that I hope you realize that I am incredibly excited for you - the comment about one of "those" stories was just meant as an observation on the irony that we usually hate those stories (in the context of telling us we should relax), but of course, I am thrilled for you! Also, I imagine it could be difficult for you if people hear your story and say "see, you just needed to relax..." sort of an "I told you that's all it would take..." I would want to throttle anyone who made that comment if I were in your situation, just like I want to throttle them now if they tell me that I only need to relax... ;)

gymwidow That's frustrating that they won't give you an update - especially if it will change what day you will have to go back in, what's the rationale? Crossing my fingers for the best outcome!!!

Hi ladies, I've decided to come back - my three weeks off has been nice but now I'm ready for another cycle to begin.

Suz - CONGRATULATIONS - that is fabulous - SO excited for you! And as kazata said we won't hold it against you that you're "one of those people" :D

So today is CD-22 of our "off" cycle - I'll test next Thursday just to be sure and then start my Provera so that we can start a new cycle of injectibles once AF shows.

Threadmistress please update my stats to:
9/06 - Taking a break
RE Cycle #2 - Injectibles start early October

I'm having a hard time with other peoples' children right now - we had a function last night where there was a six month old, 2 and 3 year olds. I just had a really hard time enjoying myself with them all running around. Especially the baby since they got pg around the time we started trying. My day has perked up though because a friend who was on to IVF got her BFP this morning - she is bouncing off of the walls and of course I'm ecstatic for her!

isign, I've been reading this book: The Savvy Woman's Guide to PCOS (http://www.amazon.com/Savvy-Womans-Guide-PCOS-Epidemic/dp/1933213019/sr=8-2/qid=1158873835/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-1426913-2315065?ie=UTF8&s=books) The doctor who wrote it puts everythign on a very basic level. Some of it is more targeted towards those women with PCOS that are still a few months out from trying to get pg, but I have found some of the information has given me "ah ha" moments.

So I'm glad to be back and ready for next Thursday to get here so that we can start a fresh cycle.

I just started last Wednesday. WTH am I spending money on acupuncture for (not to mention surgery and ultrasounds) if we can't get the timing right? Hi ladies. Someone asked for an update, so I thought I'd come in and say hi. If it bothers anyone that I'm in here just let me know!

My beta yesterday was around 250 for 4 weeks, 1 day. My RE was happy with the number, but my ob called me today and said that she thinks that's a little low and that it should be higher. :( So now I am really worried.

My repeat beta is tomorrow morning at 7:45 a.m., and I should have the results by noon.

If all is well with that, then I will have an ultrasound next week at the RE's to make sure that baby is in the correct place (actually, the term they used was to see if it was a "viable pregnancy." :( )

I wish the "pregnant after infertility" thread was more active, b/c I would join. I feel like I can't talk to anyone in the regular Pregnancy Thread.

Here here! (Or is it "hear hear"?) :confused: Weird, I guess I don't know where the expression comes from.

As for the beta numbers - I'm going with your RE. I thought the important thing was to see if they double, not what the exact number is at a specific day - and besides yours doesn't seem all that low to me. Especially since you don't know exactly how far along you are! Have you checked out the betabase? (http://www.betabase.info/showBasicChart.php?type=Single) The average HCG level at 15 dpo (which would be 4 weeks 1 day assuming a day 14 ovulation) is 157, so you seem just fine with 250. Good luck with the repeat tomorrow!!!!

Pocahontas Yep - I was the one that had the lap around the same time as you. I started to go to acu about three months before the surgery.

boo-frickin-hoo is right, kazata. That's what I'd say too. :p (Okay, I just read the rest of the posts and realized that skb said the same thing. Oops! I guess great minds think alike. ;) )

Welcome back, TazLuv. Boy do I understand about other people's children. It's been hitting me hard lately. It just hits me out of the blue. Yesterday we were at IHOP and a little girl about 5 was with her parents and was so sweet. When she got her food she said "no, I want daddy to do it". I just thought to myself will I ever hear our child say that? God, I hope so. Sorry about that, I hope that doesn't make you feel worse. I guess I just mean I understand how you feel. {{Hugs}} Oh, and thanks for the PCOS book recommendation even though I didn't ask for the info. :) I'm going to check it out.

Suz! You're absolutely welcome as long as you want to stick around to give us updates. :D I'm keeping every crossable crossed for you tomorrow morning. High beta, high beta, high beta!!

Okay, so as for us, DH had the repeat SA last week after being on Clomid for 3 months. And there was sperm this time but the count was less than 30. :( They seem to think that maybe the sperm are being damaged or blocked on the way out somehow. The eurologist has told us the next step should be a testicular biopsy to see if viable sperm are found in that. If they are found, they would be frozen for use with IVF-ICSI. We had already decided that IVF would be too expensive and we would move on to adoption if this happened but now I'm not so sure. So I'm trying to convince DH to go through with the testicular biopsy so that we can at least see if there are viable sperm. Then if that comes back as a no, we'll go from there. I'm not so sure about the eurologist's recommendation though because I don't understand why they wouldn't want to figure out what is wrong that is making the sperm die. Maybe there's a blockage and it needs to be fixed? If that could be fixed maybe we could get pg without IVF? I'm just so confused. Then I have DH telling me that if the sperm are having this much trouble he's afraid that something bad could happen with the baby because the sperm aren't good enough. I've been looking into it online but I'm not really sure that there is proof that sperm used for ICSI can cause birth defects anymore than normal conception. *sigh* I'm just so overwhelmed and don't know what to think.

On the other hand, there's me. I'm taking the Metformin still to see if it helps me O. Our plan was to start Clomid too if the SA came back good so I'm not sure what we'll do now. FF is giving me an O date but I really am not convinced that it is real. I guess only time will tell.

I'm happy that I have my RE appointment tomorrow morning because I need some clarity. I hope she makes me feel better about things. Anyway, I guess that's enough of an update on me. That got a little longer than I intended! :o

Hi Ladies!

I've been lurking around, but haven't posted since I last updated my stats a few months ago. I figured it was time for another update and this time I really want to become an active part of this thread. Right now I feel pretty alone going through this (as I'm sure you all understand). I don't really talk about this IRL a lot because I really don't want people asking "Well, did it work this month?" only to say "No, didn't happen again". Plus, while I know that my friends really care and are genuinly interested, they just don't undertand what it's like.

08/06: 1st cycle of Clomid (100mg) - ovulated but didn't get pregnant
09/06: DH SA: All normal, concentration on the low side, but still in normal range.
09/06: 2nd cycle of Clomid (100mg)
We'll try 2 or 3 more cycles of Clomid and if that doesn't work my doc said we'll move on to IUI

ET is on for 1:40 today. We have two "perfect" (in my RE's words) embryos and 3 that are lagging behind a bit. The two perfect ones are going back in and the others will be left to hopefully grow and later freeze.

I'll update when I get home!

DaniML - welcome, are you getting u/s to make sure you're ovulating on teh Clomid? My docs were only running blood test the first few months and they showed I was but once they started doing u/s they realized my eggs weren't actually maturing enough on the Clomid - so we wasted MANY months on Clomid, just something to think about.

A good note for those of you that have talked about weight gain due to Clomid before. We have moved off of it - so its been about six weeks since I took my last dose, I've lost almost all of my "clomid weight" purely be normal exercise (i.e. walking the dog) - so there is hope! :D

jnshanna I saw a program on the Dicovery Health Channel that monitored a couples journey through testicular biopsy and ICSI. It is very amazing to me the treatments that are available. I believe this couple was under the care of a doctor in Denver. I am not aware of any published reports that discuss the quality of the embyo achieved via ICSI due to potential sperm difficulties. But I would suspect that whether ICSI or not, only a viable embryo would be successful anyways. Your RE will surely be able to provide the clarity for your DH's concerns.

Hello again daniml

Very excited for you gymwidow...2 perfect embryos sounds fantastic...keep us posted I am loooking forward to hearing about how it all goes.

tazluv I'm about the same place for you regarding post clomid weight loss. In the first couple weeks it just seemed to drop right off. I feel much better, not all bloated and tender.

Those darn cysts...I hope they absorb soon pocket.

Good luck with the ET, gymwidow!

My numbers doubled. I am relieved, but the next hoop to jump through is the ultrasound to hear a heartbeat. That will be in Oct.

Have a good weekend!

Now to say all the stuff I didn't have time to say this morning!

A HUGE Congrats, suz, especially now that you know your beta #s have doubled! How exciting!:D

Yay for 2 "perfect" embryos, gym! How many *would* they transfer at one time, assuming unlimited perfect ones? I hope you don't have to worry about that, but I was curious. It's funny, since I don't know you IRL, but I am feeling good about this for you!

jnshanna- I am sorry there was not better news on the SA. Does it sound like it is something they can't fix, or that maybe it could be unblocked and yall could TTC "naturally"? Anyway, I hope it all works out and you guys can have your little one soon. I wouldn't worry about the possibility of problems, either, FWIW.

kazata- what is the deal with these guys getting mad about "having" to get busy:confused: ? Do they know how many guys wish there was a woman who wanted it all the time??? I mean, really. Get over it, right? The way I look at it, even if they don't really want to all that much, they are in this TTC thing too, so we all gotta do what we gotta do to make it happen. So they have to "donate" a few times a month. So what. Count it a blessing that we want to have your baby enough to sleep with you when we really don't feel like it. [end of rant].

I'm just hanging tight at CD10. Going to the in-laws this weekend, so we will be getting into some covert BDing, which is always fun. I am planning to SWH for this month and maybe a month or 2 more before trying something else. We may do a post-coital between now and then, but no plan of that yet.

Wow, I've been without a computer for 2 days and when I logged on tonight I couldn't believe how this new thread has taken off!

Jess71903: Have fun at the in-laws...the "covert BDing" is always a pleasure...

suzfuzsunflower: Yea!!! So happy to hear that your numbers doubled.

TazLuv: I love you for posting about the fertility drug weight coming off! I am so sick of feeling like all of my pants are too tight.

gymwidow: I'm so happy that you had 2 "perfect" embryos. I hope your bed rest this weekend goes well and that you don't get too bored. Just enjoy watching some good shows, reading some good books, and getting the rest you need.

DaniML: I'm sure you'll find the support you need here. I've found it very helpful. Hope this round of Clomid does the trick.

jnshanna: Sorry you are feeling so overwhelmed and confused about what to do. I hope you got some answers at your RE appointment. Let us know how it went.

************************************************** ********
I took my Ovidriel (sp.?) last night and go in for my IUI tomorrow morning. I'm feeling very hopefully for this try. So much seems to be falling into place for us. DH was transferred about a year ago to FL and we've been living here a year tomorrow...crazy how time flies. Anyway, the first 9-10 months of us being her I couldn't wait to move back "home." I missed my family, friends, and the life I left behind. Plus, dealing with IF at the same time and not really knowing anyone here was hard. Within the last month my outlook on our life here has totally changed. I feel very happy here, we've met some great friends, and I kind of like it being "just us" and not being surrounded by friends all the time. If we end up staying here permanently, I would be perfectly fine with it. I truly believe it was all part of a bigger plan for us to be here and start our family here. Throughout my IF journey so far I kept reminding myself that there was some reason I wasn't pregnant yet. Now, looking back I feel like I personally needed to get to this place and truly be at peace with where our lives are right now before I could get pregnant. Hope I didn't bore any of you...just me rambling on and trying to make since of my life!

I have a question for you all. Will my 2ww start tomorrow after my IUI or should I count from Thursday when I took the trigger shot?

jodylovesscotty
09-23-2006, 07:30 AM
GA-GAL~ Hope your IUI went great. I know that mine are easy as pie. Are you having a second one done? I wouldn't count the trigger shot day since really your eggs haven't dropped. I usually wait until my last IUI and then count it then. That is what my RE does. For example if you had your IUI today then you would count tomorrow as dpo1 or as I call it 1dpiui. My RE then has me come in on day 14 after IUI. Hope that helps. And I hope this is it for you!!!

jodylovesscotty~ I just got back a little bit ago from my IUI and like you said, it was quick, easy and painless. I didn't get to see my regular RE since today is Saturday and only one of the 3 is is there on the weekend. As he was leaving the room he told me I had a 25% chance of getting pregnant this month. I like to think 1 in 4 chances...just sounds better to me. I start the progesterone tomorrow night. The nurse told me that I could start counting from today and take a hpt in two weeks (Oct. 7th) and then come in for b/w if it is positive. Now the waiting begins...here's to a quick 2ww!

Welcome DaniML. I hope this cycle of Clomid works for you! I'm glad you decided to be more active here. I'm trying to do the same. It really does feel good to get all of my thoughts out and have a group of people that know exactly how I feel. :)

I hope the ET went perfectly, gymwidow.

That's great that you've lost the Clomid weight, TazLuv! :D

That show sounds so interesting, skb. I wish I had caught it. And you're right, my RE did confirm that while there is a slight increased risk of birth defects, she said it's very small and even then they are very minor defects, if any. So that made my DH feel better.

Yay for the double, Suz! :D

Jess ~ From what the RE said, they prefer to do a biopsy first to see if there is any viable sperm in the testicles. She said that to fix a blockage is very difficult because it's micro surgery. She didn't seem very optimistic about it being fixable that way. She believes IVF is our only option.

I'm so glad you have a better outlook on life in general, GA Gal. That's really great and it could only mean great things! Sounds like thhe procedure was painless. Now the 2WW on the other hand? ;) Maybe not so much. I'm thinking positive thoughts for you.

Well, my RE appointment went pretty good. I felt a lot better after. She recommended a counselor for us and DH is just as happy to go see her as I am. I need to make an appointment next week. We're hoping that by talking to her we'll be able to come to a mutual decision that we both feel good about. I'm pretty emotional these days. I almost cried in front of the dr! I would have been so embarassed. She did say that it seemed like the Metformin was working but that we would only know for sure when I get AF to see if I O'd. She gave me the release tablets that I can take only once a day so that's nice. I hated trying to take 3 pills a day! She also gave me the info on the only 2 places in our area that do IVF so that I can look into them if I want. Basically, she was very informative and gave me lots of things to read, which I love. I definitely feel better about things now but as we all have dealt with, there's no telling when the next break down might be. I'll just enjoy being at peace while it lasts. :)

DaniML - I don't talk about it a lot in real life either. I have two friends and my sister that know what we're going through but nobody else does for those exact reasons. People think they're helping when they show interest but for me I'd just rather it not be brought up.

suz - glad to hear your numbers look good, we knew you wouldn't be back ;)

GA Gal - I know how hard it is to be away from family and to go through change - I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. I have found with our moves my whole outlook changes once I meet some genuine friends. I too think 1 in 4 sounds better - wishing you tons of luck in your 2WW.

jnshanna - glad things are looking up, getting someone to talk to I think helps a lot.

Nothing new for me - just waiting for AF to show, though I'm not having any pre-AF symptoms so I suspect I'll have to use my Provera starting Thursday. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. :)

Thanks, TazLuv. The good friends I've made have definitely made all the difference in the world!

jnshanna: I'm so glad that you were able to get a lot of info from your RE and that you won't be taking medicine quite as often anymore. One pill is way better than 3. I've cried in front of my dr. before, but I think they must be used to it...they see so many patients and realize that this is a very stressful and emotional time for us. I hope seeing the counselor will be a good experience, too. We haven't seen one, but have talked about it.

GA_GAL~Glad to hear that the IUI went well and it was painless. I hope you get good news in about 2 weeks. Hopefully being at peace about things will do the trick for you.

Shanna~Glad to hear that you feel better after talking to your RE. I think that being able to talk to someone to help you sort through everything together is a great idea.

Jess~Enjoy the covert bd'ing! I hope it becomes a story that you can laugh about later when talking about your kid. ;)

Gymwidow~I hope that the bed rest is going well.

I just got AF yesterday so I am CD 2. I was actually hoping it would come which was strange since I spent so many months hoping she wouldn't come. We can finally get bad to trying again. I hope the HSG did the cleaning out that we needed.

are you getting u/s to make sure you're ovulating on teh Clomid?

Yes, as a matter of fact I'm going in today (CD15) for that. Last month we only did the u/s because CD21 fell on memorial day weekend and I wouldn't have been able to get my blood drawn until CD23 or something like that. However, the u/s did show that I had just ovulated.

Congratulations, Suz!

Good luck, GA_GAL! My doc said that if we are not pregnant in 2 - 3 more cycles we'll more on to IUI. It's good to hear others experiences with it.

[B]jnshanna[B], I'm glad your RE appointment went well and was so informative. I've cried in front of my doc before. I think drs that deal with this kind of stuff are used to that. It's a very emotional time and sometimes the tears just won't hold back.

As I said above I'm going in for an u/s this afternoon to see if I have ovulated or am about to. I felt a little crampy Friday and Saturday and am kind of hoping that wasn't O. DH and I are suppose to start BD on CD12, we actually started on CD11, but if I already O'd then we only got 1 BD in before O and 1 right after. We'll see what the doc says.

Jess ~ Hope you had a good time at the in-laws. ;)

GA_GAL ~ I hope the IUI went well. Fingers are crossed that this is it for you. I'm glad you feel like your in a better emotional place. I also believe that everything happens for a reason and maybe you were ment to start your family in florida. I'm also living in FL with my family 5 states away, so I know the feeling of going through this withoug family around.

jnshanna ~ I'm glad you felt good after your RE appointment. I've cried in front of my doctor so I wouldn't worry about that at all. This is all so emotional.

Patience ~ Hope you had a wonderful time on your trip.

DaniML ~ Good luck at your appointment today.

me ~ DH was scheduled to have his SA this morning. Of course this lands right in the middle of my fertile time. :rolleyes: As I'm sure you all know, he was supposed to go three days without doing anything before the test. Well day 1 he was already complaining. I guess knowing you can't have something makes you want it even more. ;) I accidently let it slip that I felt like I was having O pains on Saturday and that was it. He said there was no way he was going to miss the opportunity to get pregnant this month for a test that he could do at any time. :rolleyes: So that was that. So far we've got a really good BD schedule. :o Although now he has to re-schedule his SA for next week. There's really nothing going on with me because my new doctor wants to get the results of the SA before moving on with any more testing on me.

Good luck, Chris~n~Jen! I wouldn't have wanted to miss an opportunity either. Especially when you can reschedule an SA any day!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Doc appointment went well. My regular doc was out of town because of a family emergency so the P.A. did the u/s. She was very detailed though and explained everything really well. She said it looks like I ovulated yesterday. There were 3 follicles at about 1.5 cm, one of them looked "deflated" as she called it. She said I probably ovulated from that one. At least if I understood her right. She also said they usually look for 1.5 - 2 cm follicles and she guesses mine was around 2 cm before ovulation. Last month it was 2.3 cm. So, we BD'd on CD11 and CD13 and it looke like I ovulated on CD14. She said BD again tonight just in case (something about a 24 hr window). I go back on CD21 for bloodwork.

Chris~n~Jen: I cna't blame your DH for wanting to reschedule the SA and move forward with the BD. Hopefully this will be the time and you won't have to meet with the dr. about other testing. What part of FL are you in? We live in Orlando.

Patience: Can't wait to hear about your trip!

looty: Hope this cycle will be great for you!

gymwidow: How's your bed rest going? I can't wait to hear an update.

Nothing new here...I've felt a little bloated today 2-3 DPO. Too early to really be feeling anything, I guess. Anybody know at what point you can start to feel symptoms? I think I've heard about 6-7 DPO. Is that right?

looty - here's hoping your month goes fast with good results. :D

Patience - hope you had a relaxing vacation

DaniML - glad to hear you're getting the proper monitoring, that was one of my problems and the reason I found a new doctor after 1 year. Glad to hear they think you ovulated and that you think your timing was good.

Chris~n~Jen - I'm glad your husband hasn't lost all interest yet, mine is getting there with all of the "it has to be tonight", I hope his SA goes well when he does get to have one.

GA_GAL - I always feel bloated a few days after O because of all the drugs I had been one. It probably is too early, 7dpo is the earliest I have heard.

Jess71903 - I don't have any experience with prometrum, are you having any monitoring to see when you O? Sorry I'm not much help.

-------------------
Jess, you asked about my story - I have PCOS, we've been TTC since June '05. We have completed all the clomid cycles we're going to complete, they were all unsuccessful - this would have been my first cycle of all injectibles but we had to take the cycle off due to cysts. I will test before I start the Provera Wednesday but its pretty unlikely because I've been anovulatory for a while.

Hope everyone is hanging in there. :)

Can I barge in for a sec and ask you girls a question?

I'm on CD16 of my first clomid cycle (50 mg days 5-9) with no sign of O in sight. Should I consider this cycle a bust or is there still a chance I could O. For reference I do O on my own just very randomly somtimes CD30 somtimes CD80 somtimes CD24.

TIA

jodylovesscotty
09-26-2006, 05:17 AM
GA_GAL~ Not to get you down, but I for each IUI cycle I've done (3) I have had symptoms from I day 2 or 3 on, but it is just because of the drugs. So be careful about that. The drugs stay in your system for up to the two weeks, that is why they don't want you to test either.

DaniML
09-26-2006, 07:52 AM
Sarah051504, I take Clomid days 5 - 9 as well. My doc actually said he does that so that I will ovulate later. I would give it another day or so.

GA_GAL, the 2WW is the worst! I've been feeling very bloated as well, but I know that's just my "after O" bloating. I'm also swolen (retaining a bunch of water), again, pretty normal for me. I'm not sure what day you can actually feel symptoms. The problem with this whole journey is that every month I'm looking for symptoms. Around 10DPO I'm grabbing my boobs every 5 min to see if they are sore. Every time I feel queezy I think, "oh, this must be a symptom". Hope the 2 weeks fly by and we get those pretty BFPs.

Taz, hope you start on your own. I know I'm pretty sick of taking any type of medication and try to avoid it whenever possible. Of course between the Metformin, Prenatals, Clomid and whatnot that's pretty hard to do.

Jess71903, glad you enjoyed your dangerous BD hehehe. Since BDing during this time can be a chore sometimes I think anything you can do to add a little spice is great! Hope you get your +OPK soon.

O.k., I hope I didn't forget anyone. As for me, I definitivly feel like I've ovulated. I'm swolen (always retain lots of water in the 2 weeks prior to AF) and am bloated like crazy (which I attribute to the Clomid). So, the 2 WW begins.

Hi Ladies....and a big welcome back patience (2 weeks away sounds fantastic...you'll have to fill us in). I can see I have some catching up to do. But just wanted to mention the IVF ball is rolling! I received all of my paperwork and have an appointment Thursday to repeat a bunch of bloodwork, same thing for DH. The actual consulting doesn't begin until November but it's a start!

We're back from a much needed mini-vacation....dropped DS off with my dad Sun. morning and then DH and I headed up to Sedona for the night. We stayed at a fairly new boutique hotel with a spa. Our room had awesome views of the red rocks. Anyway, we had a glorious time. I'm now back at work and wishing I was anywhere else :rolleyes:.

CD 20, still no o as of this morning but I've been having o pains in my left side. Who knows.

Question....does going in a hot tub kill sperm? We BD'd Sunday night after the hot tub, but missed last night all together and I'm just wondering if there is even a chance if I do in fact o today.

skb
09-26-2006, 01:00 PM
jjsanner I'm pretty sure men should avoid the hot tub! Exposed testicles and heat does not help the sperm out. Goes back to the old boxers vs. briefs. I'll even go so far as to mention that I think I've read that it can affect sperm development for a couple months...but I don't remember the particulars ie. frequency and length of time in hot tub. Maybe somebody else knows more of the specifics. But I think the bottom line is...men should avoid the hot tub. Although...with that said...I wonder how many babies have been conceived in a hot tub?

jnshanna
09-26-2006, 03:32 PM
Oh no! I completely forgot about the no hot tub rule. :( I've heard the same thing about the heat affecting sperm development (but I don't have specifics either) We're going away this weekend and DH can't wait to soak in the hot tub. That's all he talks about when we talk about our weekend. How am I going to break it to him that it isn't a good idea? Bummer. Oh man, I'm dreading telling him this.

TazLuv: 7 DPO is what I thought, too.

jodylovesscotty: Don't worry about getting me down...I feel like I'd rather think positive, but not totally convince myself that I will be pg this month. It is too much of a disappointment if I'm not. The nurse did tell me that the trigger shot would stay with me for a while and not to test before 13 days after so that is what I'll do

I usually get so worked up believing that I'll be pregnant and have no option in my head that I won't be. This time I'm trying to picture the future both ways...pg and not pg.

DaniML: Glad you are positive you've O'd.

skb: So happy that everything has been put in motion for you!

jjsanner: Hopefully the one time in the hot tub won't be too much of a problem.

I am frustrated beyond words at this point... This cycle got cancelled due to too many follies...I am on CD 36 and I usually get AF on CD 27 or so. I POAS on Sat and Sun and got very light positives, I took another one today and it was negative and I am already spotting...I just don't get it...I don't want to call my RE because I am working every day this week and I am sure that they will want me to come in. I figure I will save the sticks for proof (I don't think they'll believe me) and take them with me next tie I go in for CD3-5 U/S and bloodwork.

ACK!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the general SO but...thinking of everyone and hoping for some happy announcements soon!

Alioop12345 I'm sorry you're so frustrated. ((Hugs))

jjsanner I'm with you on wishing I were anywhere else but at work.

skb Thanks for the welcome back. It was good to get away and not dwell on our IF issues so much (although I have to confess that I still thought about it a few times). Yay on moving forward on IVF!

DaniML Sorry about the post-O symptoms, but at least you know when you O'ed. Fingers crossed for you that this is the cycle.

****
I'm still trying to catch up on work, so I haven't had much time to come here.

And since a few of you asked about my vacation, here's a brief summary.
For our vacation, my DH and I went to Germany and Switzerland for 2 weeks. We visited a few castles, drank beer (although we weren't in Munich when Oktoberfest started), saw the Pope, and tried lots of new food. It was great. Loved the yogurt, chocolate, and bread there. Why can't American food taste like that? When we planned the trip at the beginning of this year, I had hoped that this would have been our babymoon trip. But that wasn't the case and it became the "what the heck, we can't plan our lives around TTC all the time" and "we deserve to have fun after all our TTC frustrations" trip. It's going to be our last big trip for a while because we need to save up for IF treatments.

As for me, I don't know if or when I O'ed. It seemed like I should have O'ed at the beginning of our vacation, but I didn't get the usual symptoms. So, I'm just waiting for AF to show up anytime between now and next week.

Good luck this cycle, looty. I hope the HSG did the trick!

Welcome back from vacation, Patience. I hope you had a great time.

Sounds like good BD timing to me, DaniML. :)

I'm glad you've started your paperwork for IVF, skb! It must be nice to start that process and get closer to your consult. It'll be here before you know it.

Welcome back from vacation to you too, jjsanner. I guess we all need vacations lately, huh? We're going away this weekend for a getaway.

And DH doesn't believe me about the hot tub. He says that it's okay when in "moderation". So I told him I would ask his doctor tomorrow. :rolleyes: I need to call to schedule his biopsy anyway so I'll ask then.

I'm so sorry you're frustrated, Alioop. :( I'd feel the same!

Question: Has anyone attended on of the American Fertility Association chats before? I guess they have them every Tuesday evening. I got an email about it so I attended today's. It was interesting and since it's free I'm going to try to attend just to hear what the guest speaker has to say.

kazata, yeah, I want to know as much info as I can. But it turns out the lab just doesn't do any embryo grading on day 2. Oh well.

TazLuv, welcome back. I'm glad the time off was good and also glad to hear you're ready to get started again! Thanks for that book rec. I don't want to go back on BCP to treat my PCOS after baby, so I'll definitely check it out to see what I can learn about managing it.

suzfuz, thanks, I'm thinking of you.......

skb, 3 days of bed rest. It actually wasn't that bad! Thanks for the good wishes!

jnshanna, I'm sorry the test results weren't better, but glad to hear that you do have treatment options. Let me know if you have any questions - we just did IVF w/ ICSI and I'm happy to share any info I can. I'm glad you had a good appointment and that you're thinking of counseling together. That will be a great help. There's so much to deal with!

DaniML, welcome! IUIs aren't bad at all (I did 6 of them), but I hope you never have to have one!

Jess, my RE was really clear about only wanting to transfer 2. He said that my chances of triplets are a lot higher the more they transfer and he didn't want to risk that with me. He said if I were older (I'm only 29) and had issues with egg quality, he might think differently, but he feels I have a really good chance at success with just two. I guess time will tell! Thanks so much for sharing your feelings for us - I go back and forth between being excited and hopeful and being scared and sad, so it's really good to hear that! I'm glad you enjoyed your "covert" BDing!!! I always started Prometrium a day after O. Ask your doc what they recommend - I'm not sure if it's something you could/should take until you know you've already O'd.

GA GAL, thanks! I'm glad you're feeling more at home in your new home. I hope this IUI is it for you. Your 2WW starts after O, so after your IUI. Symptoms are different for everyone and some women don't even have them. I hope your 2WW goes by fast!

looty, I'm glad that AF is here and that you have a fresh start!

Patience, welcome back! I'm glad you had a good time. What fabulous places to visit!

Chris~n~Jen, lol. Better to BD for a reason than abstain for a test you can do anytime! Smart man. ;)

Sarah, I O'd somewhere around CD20 on my first Clomid cycle. After that I started triggering O with drugs so I wouldn't have any questions about when I O'd.

jjsanner, glad you enjoyed the mini vacation! Hot tubs are bad news for sperm and you and DH should both avoid them while TTC. Sperm actually take up to 3 months to fully develop and make it "out" of the body. The heat can affect the ones that are "in production" right now (the ones that won't even make it out for a couple of months), so it's a good idea to steer clear of hot tubs and saunas entirely. Don't worry about this month, but try not to go back if you can.

Alioop, ugh, how frustrating! Maybe your RE will talk with you over the phone? You need answers!

Sorry for the delay in updating. I didn't go on the computer much over the weekend and then on Monday I wrote out this whole post and lost it. Sigh. So, here's a quickie recap:

ET went great. Thanks to our connection through our friend the GYN, the senior doc of the clinic did my transfer himself, and b/c my DH insisted, the RE I usually see for monitoring was in the room as well (basically just standing around!). We put back the two best-looking embryos. One was Grade A, 8-cell, compacting. The other was Grade A-, 7 cell. The other three were lagging behind, and we found out on Monday that they didn't make it. I was really upset - out of 13 eggs we only had two viable embryos. I really wish we had put back a third on Friday while they were still doing okay, but then again, hearing Cath's news makes me think twice about that! ;) After the ET, I went home and basically spent the weekend on the sofa. On Monday I worked for a bit, but went home early. Same thing yesterday. Today's my first full day back and I have to say - I like the part-time thing! :) I'm still a little sore from the ER, mostly just achy on the inside when I'm sitting straight up in a chair. But other than that, all is good. The PIO shots aren't that bad (I think the key is really icing the area for a long time - I ice for a good 10 min, until it hurts from being so cold!). The hardest thing now is just waiting to find out. My beta is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone. I hope we get more good news and BFPs in here!

Patience, sounds like you really enjoyed your trip! Where in Germany did you guys go? I'm German (born and raised) and the thing I miss the most (other than my family of course) is the food!!! I have yet to find bread here that's like German bread!

gymwidow, glad everything went so well! Good luck! I hope this is it for you!!

jnshanna, how do you get to those chats? It sounds pretty interesting.

Alioop12345, So sorry you're frustrated. Maybe you should go ahead and call your doc anyway, just for piece of mind.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

As for me, I still feel kind of crampy inside. No clue why. Today is 3 DPO. The wait is not nearly as bad this time because I've had so much other stuff going on. I start a new job in a couple of weeks and am going to be on a big project until then. Hopeful that will help me from going crazy!

Patience

jnshanna Thanks. No, I've never attended one of those sessions, but it sounds like you're benefitting from them. Let us know if you hear anything interesting.

gymwidow Thanks, they were fabulous places to visit, but a vacation to anywhere is fine with me. ;) I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Remember it's not the quantity that matters because all you need is one embryo to implant. Hopefully the wait won't be too bad for you this week.

DaniML Oh, I didn't know you're from Germany! I would have asked you for suggestions beforehand if I knew. We visited Munich, Heidelberg, Rothenburg, Rhine River area, and part of Mosel. Your talk of German food is reminding me of the potato soup I had. Yummy!

I hope the next couple of weeks will go by quickly, so you won't have time to analyze every symptom you're feeling. Congrats on your new job.

Alioop12345: Sorry for your frustrations. My last cycle got cancelled because of having too many follies, and I know that it just stinks to not even get a chance to try this month.

Patience: Glad you had fun on your trip! Sounds like it was a great time and I'm happy that you were able to have a great outlook on the much needed vacation away from the stress of ttc.

jnshanna: Can't wait to hear what you thought about the chat.

gymwidow: I'm so happy to hear things are going well for you. Like Patience said, it only takes one. Hope your weekend flies by so that Tuesday will be here soon.

DaniML: I'm one day past you at 4DPO and stopped feeling crampy, but have this weird dull pain around my pelvic bone. Not sure what that is all about. Congrats on the new job and I'm happy to hear that the wait isn't too bad for you.

The chat for this week was a Q&A session with a doctor from the Huntington Reproductive Center. We were able to ask questions the entire hour. I was too shy to ask anything. Plus most of the questions I could think of were male fertility questions and he seemed to specialize in female infertility. I haven't attended a chat that is focused on a specific topic yet though. I hope they're good.

Here's a list of the upcoming chats from the AFA website. They are always held 8-9 Eastern time each Tuesday. Here's the link to their chat room. http://theafa.org/connections/chat.html Maybe someone else can get a benefit from these. And in the world of infertility free is a very good thing! ;)

GA_GAL, thanks! How weird, I'm 4DPO today and have stopped feeling crampy as well. Just still retaining water like crazy. Wonder what that dull pain in your pelvic is all about?

jnshanna, thanks for the info!

Patience, thanks! I'm from Frankfurt. Isn't Heidelberg one of the most beautiful places?

Nothing to update here. It's 4 DPO and I stopped feeling crampy. We'll see what happens. Preparing for my new job, trying to finish things up at my old job, and just generally trying to stay busy.

Ladies, I've been lurking for a couple months but now that I had my first RE appt I think I'm ready to join.

honeygirl
Me: Anne, 29
DH: honeyboy
Married: 2003
Charting: 8/2005
TTC: 4/2006
Issues: long/irregular cycles, post O spotting
Dx: LPD, infertility-unsp
10/04: D&C (polyps removed) and hysteroscopy
12/05: more testing (sonohystogram, bloodwork)
3/06: started progesterone suppositories
6/06: endometrial biopsy - normal
7/06: labwork - normal (but on wrong CD)
9/06: 1st RE appt - scheduled cd3 & 7dpo bloodwork, SA for DH before next appt in 11/06

My appt went well this morning, I was so nervous! I had a referral to the RE because of a LPD, with unknown origins. Anyway, long appt short, I am re-doing some of my bloodwork (CD3 & 7dpo), DH is doing a SA and I'm going on Clomid next cycle (cd 5-9). No more progesterone, including this cycle. My dr thinks that I spot after O b/c of a weak O.

I'm excited to have a plan, but it will still be a while before we can start it. I'm only 2 wks into our current cycle (my cycles avg 5 weeks) and then sadly the next cycle is when DH is away for 9 days (during my fertile time). So odds are it won't really help until Dec, but oh well. All we can do is try.

My last bit of good news is that the office confirmed that I have really good infertility insurance. All of my testing and appts are coverered and we could even have IVF (4 cycles) if needed.

I look forward to getting to know you all and learning from you!

Dani, thanks! I'm glad your 2WW is off to a good, fast start. I hope it continues that way!

Patience, I agree completely! DH and I are going to try to plan a short cruise or something for January. I would just like to go somewhere where we don't have to visit people (like when we're going to see my parents at Thanksgiving - not as much of a vacation then!). I'm trying to remember quality over quantity, and we had one of the best quality embryos we could have hoped for, so hopefully that'll do it!

GA GAL, thanks!

jnshanna, neat, thanks for posting all that info. A couple of those definitely sound interesting to me.

honeygirl, welcome. I'm glad your first RE appointment went well. What a pain to have to repeat the tests, but at least they're easy ones. That sucks that you have to wait a while before you can really get into treatment, but hopefully the time will go by quickly!

Bellefior, yay! I'll post more to you in IVF with little tips I've picked up about doing all the shots.

Nothing to report here. Just waiting for my beta next week. Today I did more walking than I have since before the ER and I'm really achy now. Tylenol is my friend! ;)

Welcome honeygirl. It looks as though the investigations began in 2004 and continues for you. I hope you have some more definitive anwers soon. It's been 2 years for us and I'm hopeful to put an end to it soon!

gymwidow I'm not sure where I'm posting to you anymore! But I am really excited for you and hopeful for a great beta next week. This is my first cyce off clomid and my ovaries are still tender...so I can only imagine how tender you are. Have a good weekend....it sounds like a bit of rest will be helpful.

patience I haven't been to Germany for awhile. But I loved Switzerland. Very jealous!

jnshanna Haven't attended the AFA chats...thanks for the info. Yes, I have to admit I am feeling a bit excited to have things in motion way before I anticipated. It was a nice surprise. At the same time I was really excited to be drug free and doctor free. But I'll still have the fall off...just a few little details!

skb: Thanks! I just figured out how to get cute pictures/etc up there by my name...I had way too much time on my hands Sat. night when my DH was watching football. Today is 5DPO, so I still have a while to go. I'm just praying that I get past this weekend w/o af showing up because in the past, that has happened.

gymwidow: Sorry you are so achy!

Bellefior: I'm so happy that things are on the roll for you and that you have definite dates...I know it seems so much more real now.

honeygirl: Welcome! Hope your stay here will be short and sweet. Either way, I'm sure you'll find a ton of support here.

As for me, today is 5DPO, and I'm hanging in there. Sore bbs and I had weird dreams last night. Not sure if that means anything. I know I'm obsessing when I said that I wouldn't, but it is just so hard not to. I got in tomorrow AM for progesterone b/w.

Hi Ladies,

Sorry for being MIA...this week has been a killer!

I don't have time for so's, but hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there.

Nothing new to report here. I should have O'd sometime this week, FF hasn't marked by O yet. Plus I missed 2 important temp days with being gone to my DH's work conference. I have my initial appointment with an OBGYN to go over the fertility testing. Hopefully it goes well.

Question for you ladies: Have you ever had bright red spotting in the middle of your cycle? This past Saturday night I couldn't fall asleep, because I was in so much pain. I had this almost burning pain in my right lower stomach...more closer to my pelvic area. That night I maybe got 2 hours of sleep. The next day I was feeling a little bit better, besides being tired. At around 3:00 I had this gush come out of me. At first I thought it was just EWCM, since I should have O'd this week, but when I went to the bathroom is was bright red and a pretty good amount of it. It lasted on and off for about a day and a half. This is something that has never happened before. I know other cycles I might have some brownish discharge, but thats it. Anyway, just thought I would check with you ladies if it has ever happened to you. I will definitaley be mentioning it at my appointment on Monday.

Hi ladies. I hope you don't mind me bardging in here but I posted a question in Family Planning and skb suggested I ask in here.

I have a question regarding trigger shots and timed intercourse. I triggered at 7:45AM this morning. When can I expect to O after the trigger? The nurse said to BD tomorrow evening but that's not possible for us so she said to go ahead with tonight and as early as possible on Sunday AM. What is the timeframe for O-ing post trigger?

TIA!

gymwidow
09-29-2006, 08:34 AM
Jessie, I have midcycle spotting/bleeding quite often (basically anytime I'm not on meds, and even sometimes while on them), but I don't know if I've ever had quite what you described. Usually I just have spotting, sometimes enough to fill a pantiliner (sorry if TMI), but not like regular AF bleeding. Definitely mention it on Monday!!!

Bucktown, O usually occurs about 36 hours after you trigger. So tonight is good, tomorrow morning if you can, and then Sunday morning. Remember that sperm can live for up to 5 days inside you, and the egg usually lives for 12-24 hours after O, so if you can get some BDing in tonight and Sunday morning, you should be good. Good luck!

Minor panic attacks here - we got a bill from my RE yesterday for an additional $990. We purchased our cycle through an outside company that offered a discount of sorts, but they only covered 5 monitoring visits and I needed 7. So I expect this is the difference. But of course I had a heart attack when I saw the bill and then totally lost it and spent a half hour bawling my eyes out. I emailed the head of finance at the RE's this morning and am going to talk with him about how they came up with that figure and whether we can use the discount our RE offered us (but which we didn't use, since we bought the cycle through the other company) to take care of it. Cross your fingers we don't have to pay! We've already paid over $13,000 for this cycle and just don't have much more lying around.

Hi gals...hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I have a question for all the Clomid users (past and/or present). I have never been on Clomid as my RE didn't see a need to go there since I "o" regularly according to my charts and the b/w she did and because she thought the answer to our issue was the laproscopy/hysteroscopy she performed 2 months ago. However, she was giving me 3 cycles after that to get pregnant before she took it to another level with more "invasive" treatment (not sure what could be more invasive than surgery...but I will assume she means Clomid, IUIs and IVF.) So now that we are in month 2 I am looking past the possibility of getting pregnant in her 3 month time frame to the "what ifs" if we don't...one of which I'm sure will include Clomid (to give me a stronger "O" I guess or in combination with IUI...who knows?:rolleyes: ) My question, however, is I notice that sometimes when people are on Clomid they will talk about "triggering" and sometimes it seems they do straight Clomid with no trigger...just timed BD'ing. So I am just wondering what is the difference? Why would one need to "trigger" and in what cases would one not? Are there certain scenarios that call for a "trigger" while on Clomid? (Not talking Clomid with IUI...simply Clomid alone.) TIA to anyone who can help me better understand. Thanks.

Has it really been five days since I've been in here - yikes! Ok, SO's to catch up...

Sarah - I O'd late on Clomid, usually around 16-18

DaniML - good luck in your 2WW

skb - good luck on your IVF journey, I have a friend that just successfully went through it!

jjsanner - your mini-vacation sounds fabulous! Glad you were able to enjoy it! I wouldn't stress too much about the hot tub, you can't change it now, I'm sure it will be fine!

Patience - your vacation sounds fabulous too - I'd love to go to Germany & Switzerland

gymwidow - all crossables crossed for you, I hope your beta reveals great results. I hope they also gets your bills figured out, this is so expensive!

jnshanna - thanks for the info on the chats, I may have to check some of those out.

honeygirl - welcome, I hope your stay is short

Bellefior - So glad you have dates and a goal - we're all keeping our fingers crossed for you.

jessie - that really sounds kind of scary, it'll be interesting to see what your doctor says. I hope all is well

jody - can't help you, I don't know anything about Lupron but I hope you are doing well otherwise.

Alioop - when I take Provera AF usually shows 2-3 days after the last pill. I did have one cycle where it took about a week though

Pocahontas - The first five months I was on Clomid, we didn't trigger. We took blood test to confirmed O and DTD around the time we thought I would O. This last cycle we triggered but I was being monitored the entire time with u/s so they could see what stage the follies were in for trigger.

***************

Nothing new here - tomorrow is day 5 of the Provera so hopefully AF will show Tuesday or Wednesday. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks GA_GAL. Gotta have a good outlook every now and then to keep my sanity during all of this.

Welcome honeygirl! My RE had me redo some of my bloodwork too. That's wonderful about the IF insurance coverage (especially about IVF).

DaniML Yes, Heidelberg is beautiful. I loved the view of the castle from the Old Bridge. Absolutely gorgeous!

Bellefior That's great the drugs are covered by insurance. Any money saved is a good thing. I hope your DH will get his most awaited birthday present this year. ;)

gymwidow I agree about not visiting relatives if you want to completely relax on a vacation. That's what the holidays are for... I'll keeping my fingers crossed for you regarding the $900. You've spent enough already and shouldn't have to pay even more.

skb Hi!

jessied1025 Definitely tell your doctor about the spotting.

TazLuv Definitely visit Germany and Switzerland if you get a chance. I wish I were back there now. :)

Alioop12345 & jodylovesscotty Can't help with either one of your questions. Sorry.

pocahontas I've never triggered before, but see my answer below.

Me - AF made her appearance last night. So, now I start my first Clomid+IUI cycle. I'll be taking Clomid on CD3-7 in order to increase the number of eggs for this cycle. Depending on my u/s, I may or may not have to trigger. According to my RE, I'll have to trigger if I don't get the LH surge, but the u/s shows that I have a follicle that's ready to release the egg.

jessied1025: Hopefully your doctors will be able to give you some answers about that spotting.

gymwidow: I know the money part of all this is very hard. Maybe your doctor will let you have a discount, like you mentioned. How are you feeling? Hanging in there until Tuesday?

jodylovesscotty: Not sure about that, but I hope it comes soon for you.

Alioop12345I would think it couldn't hurt to take a hpt before starting provera...I have a freind who takes provera quite often to start her cycles and she always takes a hpt first.

pocahontas: I'm not exactly sure, but I think that with a trigger shot you know exactly when to bd and you know for sure that the eggs did release.

TazLuv: Hope you'll see AF this week.

Patience: Hope this Clomid IUI cycle will be the one for you...especially now that you are nice "de-stressed" from you vacation!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well I'm still hanging out in the 2ww. So far, so good. I'm 8DPO today and that is the longest I've made it so far. Before, AF has showed up about this time. I had my progesterone b/w done on Friday and it came back normal and showed a good ovulation, so I was happy about that. My bbs/nipples have been SO sore the past few days. I know that people say the progesterone capsules make your bbs sore, but I've taken them before and mine have never felt like this. I'm hoping that is a good sign. Yesterday I could have sworn I had that weird taste in my mouth I've read about. I kept chewing gum, mints, etc. but it seemed to stay around. I am probably just imagining it...who knows. I did stock up on hpt for next weekend. We are going to be out of town, but I'm going to bring hefty supply of them with me.
pocahontas I don't know if I can help or not. I took clomid for 6 cycles with the HCG trigger shot. I did ovulate on my own and had very regular cycles. I continued to ovulate with 50 mg clomid, have follicle tracking via ultrasound and trigger at the time that my uterine lining and follicle size was acceptable. Through this process we had timed intercourse. My doctor's objective was to have one dominant follicle and time intercourse as close as possible. Beyond 6 cycles apparently it isn't as likely to result in pregnancy. My doctor did not consider this to be invasive treatment. In fact he referred to it as a common low level treatment for infertility. In my case, primary unexplained infertility. I do have a specialist friend who said that in my case she would've just prescribed clomid alone...no tracking or trigger. We have now moved onto IVF. I hope your next clomid cycle is successful.
Appointment update:
My appointment went really well and the Dr. was very nice and willing to discuss and answer any questions I had. She did blood work and I should get that back in a couple of days. She suggested a HSG to check for polups, since I spot before AF and sometimes during my cycle. I have to schedule an appointment for the HSG once I get AF. Crossing my fingers that she doesn't show!! DH has to contact his doctor (he is on different insurance than I am) and schedule a SA. My Dr. also made me feel a little bit relieved regarding cost. She is listing the appointment for "spoting during cycle" instead of "infertility" and doing the same for the HSG. She did indicate that should she find something or need to do further testing that it probably would be listed as infertility issues. But as long as I can save some money now I am happy.
No time for so's...sorry....have to get back to work!!
Thanks ladies for the input. I found out today my Dr. doesn't even do triggering. So I guess it's a mute point. One last question though...for the IUI ladies. Anyone ever done IUI alone? (i.e. without drugs, injections, etc.)
First of all, without making you guys agonize and read through everything while waiting for the punchline, I’ll just say it:
We’re pregnant!!!!! :eek: :D :eek: :D :eek:
What a weekend. I started spotting on Saturday (11DPO, 8dp3dt) and it got progressively heavier throughout the day. By yesterday morning it was bright red and I was convinced I was not pregnant. I cried all day, even though DH kept trying to convince me it wasn’t over yet. I was able to get in today for a beta and to see my RE. Again, I was 100% sure it was over. We talked about what to do next and even set up an appointment for Wednesday to go over this cycle and plan for the next one. But the RE kept telling us to stay positive and that he still thought we had a chance.
So, we come home, I cry some more, and I make DH answer the phone when the doctor calls. The RE called himself and told DH, “Congratulations, you’re pregnant. And not only are you pregnant, you’re REALLY pregnant.” My beta was 90 today (13DPO, 10dp3dt), so it’s for sure. Of course, there’s still room for worry (seriously, I’ll be in labor and still worrying that it was all a big mistake), but for now things are good. I’m still spotting, but it’s more like brown sticky CM (sorry if TMI) than bleeding and I know that there are a lot of women who bleed throughout pregnancy, so I’m trying not to freak out constantly and am instead just counting down the hours till my next beta on Wednesday.
After DH told me the news, and after I got over the shock (I totally did not believe him, I was so absolutely positively sure I was not pregnant), we went ahead and called our folks and our siblings. And we told a couple of our closest friends who have been following along with our journey. We’ve told everyone not to celebrate too big yet b/c we still have some hurdles to cross, but we wanted to share the good news, and knew they’d be waiting to hear tomorrow anyway!
So, that’s it for now. I’m coming down from all the excitement and am just planning to relax tonight and get out one of my pregnancy books to read. I’ve had them for months, but haven’t read any of them b/c I just didn’t want to jinx anything (silly, I know). But now I feel like I can read them for real. Yay!
I’ll be back tomorrow with SO’s. Thanks, everyone, for keeping us in your thoughts! :)
Wow, you guys brought tears to my eyes! I cannot tell you how happy I was to be able to share this news with all of you. You guys have been amazing and I feel really lucky to have you all as my friends. Thank you all so much for your good wishes and congrats. I can't wait to bring more good news tomorrow after our next beta results are in! :D
jody, you'll get a "Lupron bleed" a few days after stopping the BCP. Mine was not bad at all, like a very light period.
Alioop, thanks! I got AF within a few days of starting Provera both times I took it, but I know some women who took much longer (up to 2 weeks).
pocahontas, I didn't trigger my first month on Clomid and was then unable to pinpoint my O date (b/c my temps didn't rise until a week after O, even though my b/w came back with elevated progesterone, showing I had indeed O'd). I suspected I had a LP defect, so the next month my RE triggered my O so we could accurately measure my LP. After that we added IUIs to our treatment, so we triggered so we could be positive we were doing the IUIs at the right time. My RE thinks that OPKs are not a good measure of impending O in women who are on medicated cycles b/c the meds can interfere with hormone production and alter the test results. Thank you for the big screaming congrats!!!!!
TazLuv, I completely forgot to update about that bill - thankfully, we don't have to pay it, at least not now. They said I never should have received it b/c they're waiting for payment from the outside company we purchased our IVF cycle from. Whew!
Patience, Awww, thank you so much. Good luck with your first IUI! It's a quick painless procedure, so don't be nervous at all!
GA GAL, I've got everything crossed for a positive result for you this week!!!
jessie, I'm glad you had a good appointment and that your doc can work with you on the insurance stuff. I hope you can get those tests done soon so you can keep on moving forward!
honeygirl, thank you!
Chris~n~Jen, thanks! I absolutely will update the TTC girls, probably tomorrow after I get my next beta results.
gym Congratulations, that is wonderful news and I know several friends who have dealt with early bleeding and had great pregnancy's!
I have not been in here much mostly in the tough seconds group because I felt strange having at least one. Well after a chem pregnancy last cycle, I am pregnant again. This is our 3 pregnancy in the past year so i am trying to have a very positive outlook as I had my dye test 3 weeks ago and nothing was found so I officially have unexplained repeat pregnancy loss. I am hoping though that the accupuncture will change this out come.
My HCG was 101 at 12 DPO which is the best I have ever had and my prog was 33.2
I will say I cannot say enough about accupuncture although I have only been doing it for 7 weeks. I have an elevated FSH level of 12.1 but have gotten pregnant both cycles I have been doing it and my accupuncturist actually felt my pulse and said she thought I was pregnant last Friday (I did not get a faint positive until Sunday am). I will see how this progresses before calling it a successful treatment but I am feeling much better this time around.
Congrats to Gymwidow and Almostthere!
I am so happy for you both!
I haven't been around much because there isn't much to say. I am currently CD 11 and getting some watery CM. This will be our last unmedicated cycle so we of course are really hoping that it happens without the meds. We'll see. I try to be hopeful but at the same time I don't want to set myself up for disappointment. I am sure you all understand.
Well I'm not on here for 2 days and look at the GREAT news I get to come back to. Congrats Gymwidow and almostthere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gymwidow: I'm so happy for you and just had a good feeling this was going to happen for you this month. I know you must be thrilled, scared, nervous, excited, etc. all at the same time. Please let us know after you get the results of your beta back tomorrow. I can't wait to hear, but I'm sure the numbers will look great. I can totally understand you not wanting to jinx yourself by looking at the pregnancy books. I'm the same way...
almostthere: I'm keeping you in my prayers and hoping that this pregnancy will be the one to "stick" for you. Like you said, hopefully the acupuncture will continue to help...it seems to have really done a lot for you so far. Keep us posted.
looty: Definitely understand the wanting to be positive, but not wanting to be disappointed. I am dealing with that myself right now. Hopefully your positive thinking will win out and you will not have to move on to medicated cycles.
LDS Angel 19: Sorry you don't think you O'd this month... you never know though, so try to hold out hope until you hear for sure on Monday.
jessied1025 : Glad your apt. went well. It is great that your RE was able to code the apt. differently for insurance reasons. Hopefully they can do the same for a few other apts. and procedures.
pocahontas : Sorry your dr. won't do a trigger. Is it a regular OB/GYN? I just had my first IUI, but it was with injections, so I'm afraid I can't help with your other question.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm still haning in there at 10 dpo. My bbs are not nearly as sore as the were and all other "symptoms" seem to have gone except this weird feeling I'm having around where I think my uterus is. I feel it most when I'm up walking around (walking my dog, etc.) It's not really cramping, but feels more like pressure/tightness.

DaniML
10-04-2006, 07:02 AM
GA_GA, that's odd, I'm having the same thing going on. It's not really crampy, but like pressure feeling.

almostthere, Congratulations!!!! Sending you lots and lots of sticky vibes!

looty, Good luck with this cycle!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

NOthing really going on here. I'm at 10DPO and am having much of the same going on as GA_GAL. A slight pressure like feeling in my abdomen. Other than that no symptoms whatsoever. This morning I felt a little ill until I ate breakfast, but I also feel like I'm getting a cold, so i'm sure it's related. NO sore boobs, nothing! If I'm not pregnant I should start my period in the next 5 - 6 days and I was at least expecting sore boobs for that (PMS), but, nothing. I had my CD21 (well, it was actually CD22 since CD21 fell on a Sunday) b/w done and am waiting for my progesterone results.

I think I entered this thread at the right time, with 2 BFPs! I'm a little intimidated to do SO's b/c I don't feel like I have too much information to offer just yet. About all I can say is good luck and sorry. I'm sure I'm not the only one that felt this way in the beginning. :)

Here's what I wrote in the TTC thread this morning:

I'm on cd19 and not sure what's going on. I seem to have dried up but my temps aren't very convincing of a O going on. Perhaps my body is going to try again in a few days? I'm not sure if I'm happy about this or not. Part of me just wants to get onto the next cycle so that I can start clomid. I feel like there isn't much of a chance of getting pregnant on our own, so why try? KWIM? However, if this cycle goes long then I have a better chance of BD'ing at the right time next month (b/c of DH's travel schedule). This is like a complicated logic puzzle. :D

The odds of us catching my fertile period next cycle are very slim due to 2 back to back trips by my DH. I'm excited to start Clomid (hoping that it is a miracle drug) but wondering if I should bother using it on a month that we probably won't be able to BD? I've read here and there that Clomid is only good for 2-3 months. Do you ladies agree?

Thank you and have a great day!!

DaniML
10-04-2006, 12:08 PM
Hi honeygirl, I would probably wait to start Clomid the cycle after next if you already know you won't be able to BD. It's not that Clomid is only good for 2 - 3 cycles, it's that most doctors say that if you haven't gotten pregnant in 3 - 6 (my doc says 6 cycles because DH's SA came back normal) then chances are you won't. Good luck with this cycle!

Last night I started having some mild cramping on the right lower abdomen right where my persistent ovarian cysts are. It’s dull, kind of like low-level menstrual cramps. It’s accompanied by gas and bloating. WTF? Maybe one or two of them popped? Should I call the doc? I’m not in pain – normally I wouldn’t call unless I was actually in pain.

Also – I read in the paper this morning that Depo Lupron is what they give pedophiles to help them not want to molest children. I can also report that I have not had the desire to molest even once since being on the DepoLupron.

almostthere - congratulations, I hope your results have continued to climb!

looty - good luck on your last unmedicated cycle, all crossables crossed that you don't have to go through the medication s/e's

GA_GAL - Some women don't get sore bb's until later in their pg - so don't give up, we're all thinking of you.

DaniML - hoping your test results are good and that the rest of your 2WW goes quickly.

honeygirl - timing does stink sometimes doesn't it, well here's to hoping you won't have to worry about it! DaniML makes a good point, some docs are very strict on how many cycles they'll let you do with Clomid.

pocket - I've never thought I could feel my cysts but then again maybe pains I thought were gas were my cysts. I would say if you're not in a lot of pain to not worry about it. My understanding is that they usually do burst or deflate on their own.

gymwidow - any updates?

jessie, thanks!!!!

bumble, thank you! It's amazing how fast my outlook turned to 100% positive. I just don't have any doubt that this will be a sticky pregnancy. We're wondering about the possibility of twins and can't wait for an u/s that will tell us who's in there!

pocket, thanks! See how you feel over the rest of the day and if it's still bothering you, call the doc. A call doesn't cost anything and it can't hurt to doublecheck with a pro. I am very glad to hear that the DepoLupron seems to be working. :p

almostthere, thanks, and right back at ya! That's awesome news and I am sending you all the sticky vibes I can spare. ;)

Freckles, thanks, I'm rolling around in 'em now. :)

looty, thank you! I do understand what you mean. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

GA GAL, thank you so much. I kept that in mind, what you said before about feeling good things for us, and it really did help. I'm just so excited now and can't believe this day actually arrived. Read on for more test results and good luck in the last few days of your 2WW! I hope you're back to share excellent news, too.

DaniML, I have absolutely NO pregnancy symptoms. I'm even taking megadoses of progesterone, and still nothing. I almost wish my boobs would hurt, or something would feel off, just so I could *feel* pregnant. :rolleyes:

honeygirl, welcome! I agree, don't waste a Clomid cycle when you know you'll miss your window of opportunity. My RE feels that if you aren't pg by your 4th Clomid cycle, it's time to consider moving to other things. He allowed me a 5th just b/c I was traveling and wouldn't have been able to come in for the additional monitoring that injectables required.

TazLuv, read on for an update..... I hope AF shows soon for you!

Bellefior, awww, I'm so sorry. I hope your renovations included a nice fluffy comfy bathmat to sit/lay/kneel on. ;) Feel better soon!

Second beta results = 213 at 15DPO/12dp3dt. Yay! That's up from 92 on Monday. I'm so relieved. DH was actually really nervous today, and I was a little bit, but overall for some reason I'm really calm about it and just so confident that this will stick. It's funny since he was the positive one before and I was so sure it wasn't going to happen.

Normally my RE goes to weekly appointments now, but b/c I still have some spotting and b/c I'm just a nervous, high maintenance kind of patient, he readily agreed to have me come back in on Friday for one more check. Then we'll go to weekly, with our first u/s next Thursday (where we hope to see the sac) and our second one 2 weeks from today (where we hope to see the heartbeat). Also, I learned today that now that we're into pregnancy testing, I'm back to being covered by my insurance. Whew!

Anyway, I'm off to call my acupuncturist and make another appointment for Saturday. I saw my massage therapist today and found out she's certified in prenatal massage and she's so excited to work with me throughout this pregnancy. I am too!

Threadmistress, if you don't mind, I'd like to stick around till after Friday's beta.

Looks like we've got lots of people in the later 2ww, me included. I was pretty convinced that our timing was horrendous this cycle, so I was not thinking that we had any chance at all....but of course since Saturday I've been feeling a bit "off" - dizzy/lightheadedness and headachy and the way my brain works, I've started imagining that it could be pregnancy symptoms, and I've been obsessing reading through the early pg. symptoms thread. When will I ever learn? The chance really isn't even there this cycle, so I don't know why my mind is convincing me that I could be pg only to be disappointed when AF will inevitably show within the next few days. (Of course I *thought* that I had ovulated early, which would put me at 14dpo today, meaning AF should be here by now, but most likely the reason she's not is not b/c I'm pg, but b/c I didn't actually O until a few days later, which would put my O right around normal time for me.) Anyway, Gymwidow I completely understand that you would like to experience some pregnancy symptoms, but of course the fact that you are not, is making my mind even more hopeful that I could be pg even without sore boobs and all those other symptoms people are always talking about....
Just some ramblings from a crazy-obsessed-it's-been-way-too-long-ttc'er. I'm sure you all know how I'm feeling.

kazata: Glad to hear I'm not the only one obsessing and running a million different scenarios through my mind. I thought I was having symptoms, then they seemed to subside, and now I'm questioning if they are back or not. It's a never ending cycle of hope, and wishful thinking to doubt and disappointment for me. I just pray that in a few days we will both have bfp's to cheer about. When are you going to test?

gymwidow: It looks like your beta results were great and I'm sure you will feel even better about things after Friday. Great news that your insurance will start coving stuff for you from here on out. That has got to be a relief. Also, I think the calm feeling you are having has got to be a good thing...much better for you to feel relaxed and confident than stressed and worried.

Bellefior: So sad you are feeling bad, but I'm very happy that it didn't push back anything you had scheduled. Lucky you to be enjoying your newly remodeled bath...even if it isn't the most glamorous way to enjoy it. Hope you start to feel better soon.

TazLuv: Hope your wait isn't too much longer.

pocket: I would think it couldn't hurt to call your dr., just in case.

honeygirl: I felt the same way you did when I first started on these boards, but the best thing to do is just jump in and get your feet wet. I can totally relate to you because my dh travels a lot for work. There have been so many times that I was worried we would miss our prime BD time because he was gone, but thankfully we were able to work it out one way or another. I never took Clomid, but I heard that some people have a lot of side effects, so if you are SURE that you won't be able to BD around the time of your O, you might want to hold off a month and not experience any discomfort or side effects for no reason.

DaniML: Hope your progesterone results come back good. Keep us posted. I'm hoping that this weird pressure/ache feeling we are having is a good sign for both of us. When are you going to test?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +

I found out great news from a friend today. I team-teach 1st grade and my co-teacher has been dealing with IF also. It really has been a blessing that we were put together because we have been able to offer each other so much support emotionally and it has worked out great with dr. apts., etc. because we both understand and are very flexible. Her journey has been a little more difficult than mine because she got pregnant on her own about 2 years ago, but gave birth at 24 weeks and her son did not survive. She's been trying for about a year and 1/2 to get pregnant again with no luck. However, she told me this morning that she is 7 weeks pg! I don't know how she kept it a secret from me this long, but I totally understand her wanting to wait until they saw the heartbeat yesterday. We kept joking that we were going to get pregnant at the same time and I just hope that this cycle is it for me so that we can go through our pregnancies together. It seems that so many people are getting BFP lately, so I hope the rest of us get ours soon too!

Bellefior - Bummer about the nausea, I hope that the bug works its way through you quickly! That's one way to enjoy the bathroom updates, but not the most pleasant. :)

I can also report that I have not had the desire to molest even once since being on the DepoLupron.

GA_GAL~ How much longer until your beta? I am hoping this is it for you. Keep the positive energy flowing.

gymwidow~ Great to hear your numbers keep going up! I am so happy for you:)

I went to the RE this morning for my cd3 bloodwork and ultrasound. I never had that done before, yuck! Anyway I had to come home and start my repronex shots. He is doing my protocol a little different this time, since as he put it "my body responds too well". I am taking one unit in the am and one unit in the pm instead of 2 units at night. The only thing that really sucks about that is that repronex leaves big red welts and bruises so now I will have twice as many. I am still on the Lupron until Monday. So here we go again, brand new cycle. I am hoping this third time is a charm:)

jody, lol, those CD3 ones are definitely YUCK. I'm sorry you have to add in another shot, but am very hopeful that this third time is indeed the charm for you!

Bellefior, that is awesome.

Nothing new here. Crampy and very happy to say that the spotting is almost gone! Yippee! :)

Congrats, almostthere! It looks like this pregnancy is already going better than previous ones, judging by your #s! Sticky vibes to you!

Gymwidow-I understand not wanting to "graduate" until you have another good visit. That's great that your RE is so accomodating! I am glad you are staying around. I get to live vicariously through you! I am still so happy for you!

All of you ladies in the 2WW- I am with you, although only at 7DPO. I don't know how I feel about this cycle. I guess we'll see in a week or so. I hope we can continue this BFP trend! All of you girls deserve it!

Thank you all for the good wishes, my numbers did double so at least this pregnancy appears to not be a chem one we shall see in a few weeks if it is another blighted ovum or a healthy baby, I am trying to stay positive.

You have all been a wonderful group.

gymwidow can't wait to hear your good news about BW tomorrow, I am still too chicken to join the "other thread"

GA_GAL, I don't want to test at all. Seeing that BFN month after month is such a heart break that I swore to myself this month I will not test until I am actually late. So, today is 12DPO which means AF should arive around Monday or so. If it doesn't I *might* test on Tuesday, if I can stand it. When are you testing??? How great about your co-teacher!

Jess71903, good luck! Hope the 2nd half of your 2WW goes by quickly.

gymwidow, so glad the spotting is almost gone!

jodylovesscotty, good luck with this cycle!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

12DPO today and NO symptoms whatsoever. I do feel nausious a lot and brushing my teeth makes me gag. But, I'm getting sick (been blowing my nose and sneezing like crazy) so I'm sure that's why I don't feel well overall. Again, wondering where the sore boobs are. If nothing else they should be sore by now because of PMS. AF is due around Monday, so if it doesn't arrive I might test on Tuesday.

Jess, thanks! I truly feel so lucky to have such a great RE. Everyone at that practice has been amazing and I would recommend them to anyone who needed IF help.

almostthere, I hope you'll join in soon and be a member along with me all the way till June! I just read about blighted ovums the other day and I can't even imagine how awful that must have been. I am thinking of you so much and praying that this baby grows and grows.

Dani, me, too, thanks! Good luck in your last few days of waiting. I've got everything crossed that this is it for you!

Well, I can't believe I'm saying this, but Threadmistress, please graduate me! :D My RE just emailed me to tell me that my HCG more than doubled again and is now 478. So even though I still don't feel anything at all, I'm surely pregnanter than ever. :) The spotting has also completely disappeared, so I'm being very cautiously excited and optimistic that this is for real and not going anywhere. I plan to continue to read along and post in here, though, and I can't wait to see each and every one of you succeed and graduate very soon!

Much love to you all......... I'm off to join the June mommies. :eek:

Gymwidow I have tears in my eyes - I'm so happy for you!!!! This is such much-needed wonderful news. Please do check in with us every so often!

ALmostthere Congrats on the numbers doubling. I am keeping you in my thoughts and hope that this is a very sticky, healthy pregnancy for you!

DaniML I know exactly what you mean about the testing - I can't stand never seeing a second line. It's worse than just waiting for AF for me, so I force myself not to test until I'm late too. It helps not having tests in the house, too! I hope this month is it for you though and that you will be testing b/c you are late and preggers!

Jess, GA-Gal and any other 2ww'ers - best of luck to you this month. Hopefully we can keep the BFP's rolling....

Me: Well, AF showed yesterday and brought with her a crazy emotional crying uncontrollably breakdown. Which is completely irrational since I knew our timing was horrible this month and I had barely a sliver of a chance. I guess it was about the whole process more than anything though, this TTC process just is full of emotions and not always rational. Poor Dh has no idea what to do with me. I seriously felt like breaking things yesterday. That can't be good.

Hi Ladies. Not much to say here. Just repeating some bloodwork and getting paperwork in order for IVF consult. A bit of a transition phase for us. So I think I'll just continue to read along and cheer you on. I have next week off work so I am really excited for the change of scenery. Take care.

Good luck to all of you in the 2ww! I hope the treand of BFPs continues.

Sorry about AF kazata! I understand the irrational crying even if you knew it proabbly wasn't going to happen. I am sure we all do.

I am just now getting ready to O. It will probably happen sometime over the weekend. I love weekend O's. ;)

i've been following along and been in lurker mode. sorry :(

i'm so glad to finally hear of some positives!!! congrats suz, almostthere, and gymwidow. :D i hope i didn't miss anyone else.

for those of you, who don't already know from my posts in some other threads, we have decided to pursue ivf. originally, we had wanted to do it out of the country, but both of us felt a little skeptical about the quality of care. plus, i think it will be a bit more comfortable to be in more familar surroundings. i will be on the down regulation protocol. i start meds in the next couple of weeks. hopefully, egg retrieval and embryo transfer will happen sometime mid november. i am very excited by the prospect that i might actually get pregnant. i had lost all hope of naturally conceiving. though, i am very scared that it won't work too.

threadmistress please update my stats
11/06 - ivf, down regulation protocol

Asha~Good luck with the ivf. I hope that it will result in something to be very thankful for and a very happy holiday season. :)

I am now 1 DPO. I think we had really good timing (had EWCM and pains and bd'ed about 30 min. to 1 hour after pains). I guess we'll see if it works. I have mixed feelings because I am always hopeful right after O but that wanes as the week goes on and I think about all the other cycles that we had good timing and were unsuccessful.

Asha, good luck! I'm sure starting the IVF venture is very difficult and scary.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Today is 15DPO and I haven't tested yet. I'm just too scared to see another BFN. I'm very bloated and my boobs are sore, both of which could very well be signs of PMS. I guess if AF doesn't arrive today I'll test tomorrow. I'm getting very anxious now though. I've never been able to last this long without testing!

GA_GAL, I know you're a day ahead of me, any news???

Hi - was wondering if I might join here. DH and I have been TTC for about 13 months. Here is my info:
ctjo
Me – 32
DH - 33
Married – 10/25/03
Charting – 07/2006
TTC – 09/2005

We are just starting the whole - "ok there's a problem let's go to the doctor" thing now. DH has a SA on 10/19. I have to make an appointment for myself. I'm trying to sort out the insurance stuff. Unfortunately I think it might make sense for me to wait until open enrollment and switch my insurance to get better coverage in 2007. But I really don't want to wait. We'll see.

Congrats to those who recently received BFPs! Threadmistress - I really appreciate all the work you've done on this thread, especially on the first page. It is so encouraging to see all the positive stories of former members of this thread who are currently pregnant or have had their babies.

Ooooh more GOOD NEWS and BFPs! YAY! :) (Okay, CATH...I am unfamiliar with IVF and probably a dunce to ask this but having triplets even though only 2 embryos were transfered rather than 3 means that one of the embies formed an identical twin...YES/NO? :confused: )

We're not 100% committed to TTC just yet, so I'm just going to be lurking here.

We're tentatively planning to start TTC next month. I have an appointment to get my tetanous shot updated today. My last one seems to have been in 1977 :eek:, so my OB/GYN's office recommended I get vaccinated. Since my GP's office is in the same building, I'll probably stop by my OB/GYN's office to give them a list of the prescription meds I'm on in case I need to alter anything.

DaniML My fingers crossed for you! I'm hoping that AF stays away for you.

looty My fingers are also crossed for you. Keep thinking positive thoughts! :)

Asha Good luck with IVF. I wish you and your DH the best of luck. Perhaps you'll come back and report your BFP with the first cycle of IVF? :)

Cross post from another thread since I figure someone here probably has some experience with this:
Anyhoo, this is a sidenote question since many of you ladies have experience with IUI and/or IVF. I am a little confused about my insurance coverage (BS/BC) and I figure perhaps one of you can clarify this for me. I was told I have coverage for "3 attempts per live birth". That's exactly how it was put. So I'm sitting there scratching my head wondering if that means if 3 attempts don't result in a birth I am no longer covered? And if one of those attempts results in a birth I am covered for another 3? And lastly does that lump IUI and IVF together or is it 3 attempts at each one. Does anyone one else's insurance spell this out more clearly? I was a little lost. Thanks in advance.

Well, my doc finally called me with my b/w results from last Monday. The lab had screwed up and they just got the results to my doc today! Anyway, based on that I did not ovulate. Go figure.

On top of that I start my new job on Monday which means I'll be very limited to get my monitoring in. I work 8 - 5 and the doc office is open like 9 - 5. They are closed at lunch too, however, the nurse said if AF doesn't show by Friday to call her and she can work something out where they can schedule me during lunch time.

I honestly feel like crying right now. Even though I really didn't obsess during the 2WW this month, deep down inside I thought maybe this is it. Now I'm so disapointed that I didn't even ovulate!

Here's to hoping that AF shows this week so I can at least get in for my u/s to check on cycsts.

Just a quick drive by post.

Dani, if you feel like crying, cry. One of the worst things I did was to hold it all in and not want to cry. That was bad for me and bad for DH. It all came to a head and blew up and it wasn't good. It's so hard to deal with your emotions during this time and if you body says it needs to cry, let it. I am sorry that your results took so long to come in, it's so hard to wait.

isign, thanks for the encouragment. I just called DH to tell him and did let the tears roll. I feel better now. I just have to figure out how to proceed from here regarding doc appointments. Worst case I guess I'll have to take a couple of months off. I really don't want to do that, but maybe it's best.

DaniML~ Sorry you didn't ovulate:) I agree with isign, it is so much better to get it out then not. Did you have IUI done (I forget)? Did they do ultrasounds and bloodwork all along? If so they should have known before now. Sorry if I am being nosey, but I am just curious and trying to help you out with some of my knowledge.

pocahontas~ I can't help you with the insurance thing as mine pays for up to $10,000 a year. But I have heard that some insurance have a number of times you can try. I would called fertilitylifelines and ask them to help you sort it out.

I went to the RE today. I am happy to report I am down to doing only one shot a day, down from 3. My belly will really thank them. I go back in again on Wednesday. I think we will probably trigger sometime this weekend and do IUI:)

me- not sure what's up. I had some pink spotting yesterday at 10 DPO, even though I am on prometrium:confused: . None today and my temp is back up. I thought maybe it was because the prometrium irritated things in there and we BDd the night before, but then there was some brown too, which made me think it wasn't just irritation. Who knows. Hi everyone, another lurker here, we’re coming up on a year with ttc, and I could really use some support.

Byrd’s Boogie
Me: Boogie 33
DH: Byrd 34
Married: 2005
Charting: 11/05
TTC:12/05
Issues: left tube blocked mild hydrosalpinx, low progesterone
07/05 BFP!
08/05 Miscarriage/D&C
02/06 Myomectomy
06/06 HSG both tubes blocked
07/06 Tubal cannulization left tube blocked
08/06 annovulatory cycle (prior cycles were always 28 days w/ovulation on day 15 )
09/06 annovulatory cycle/no period, Prometrium to bring on period
9/06 Cancelled lap to either fix or remove left tube, decided to try Clomid for 3 months

I’m currently awaiting my period so that I can take Clomid, has anyone else taken Prometrium to bring on your period? How long does it usually take after the last pill?

Jess71903

Anywhere from a few days to 2 weeks. I think the longest it ever took AF to arrive after Prometrium was 14 days. Of course that was after a concerned phone call to the doctor on the 10th day and a total freak out and meltdown to DH that night. :rolleyes: The nurse said AF should have arrived by day 10, but I later read online that it can take up to 14 days.

GA_GAL

Hi Girls,

Sorry for being away for so long, but we were out of town last weekend and my dh didn't get back from his business trip until tonight. I have WONDERFUL news to share though...I'm PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly still don't believe it. After trying for over a year I got used to hearing bad news instead of good. I don't think it has set in yet. I tested on Sat. morning with two tests and got BFP on both. It wasn't as dark as I had hoped though, so I wasn't sure. I tested again on Sun. and the results looked the exact same, no darker, no lighter. I went for my beta this morning (16 DPO) and the nurse called me at school to let me know I was definitely pregnant. My beta was 279 and although I don't know much about it, she said that was really good. I go back on Wed. for my repeat beta just to make sure everything is moving along as it should be. I'm still in shock, but thrilled beyond belief.

Byrd's Boogie: Welcome. I found a ton of support here and I hope you do the same.

Jess71903: Hope these next few days pass quickly for you and that the spotting stops. Also, try to not give up hope...I had that thought of moving to adoption, just because it seemed easier than dealing with the IF stuff every month, but stay positive and I'm sure it will happen for you!

jodylovesscotty: One shot is definitely better than 3! Good luck for your IUI this weekend...have you had one before?

DaniML: I'm so sorry to hear you didn't ovulate. I dealt with that very same issue a lot of months and I know it is frustrating to think your body didn't even have a chance to get pregnant this month. Please keep your head up and look forward to the next month. It WILL happen for you soon.

pocahontas: Sorry about the confusing insurance. Mine said nothing like that, but it sounds pretty promising...at least they seem to cover some IF treatments. Ours only covered testing to figure out the cause of infertility.

Asha: I'm glad you and DH decided to go with IVF here and feel comfortable about your decision. It's great that you'll start the meds soon. Keep us posted!

looty: Hope your timing was perfect! I did the same thing as you as far as being positive in the beginning, then starting to doubt it towards the middle of my 2ww. Just stay as positive, yet level headed as you can...tough, I know. :-)

ctjo: Welcome. Hope you will find the support you need here. Also, it took me a while to be able and accept "we have a problem" but my RE is amazing and I hope you have good luck with yours and your insurance.

Cath: Congrats on your pregnancy. Wow! Triplets...three times the fun! How are you feeling so far?

KaliLily: I lurked for a long time on this thread before jumping in, but learned a lot. Hope this helps you too.

Congratulations!!!!!
To both, GA_GAL and CATH. That's wonderful news!!!!

Byrd's Boogie, welcome! I have no experience with Prometrium. Hope AF shows soon so you can get started with the Clomid.

Jess71903, I know what you mean about the medical stuff. I haven't even moved on to injectibles or anything like that, I'm just soooo sick of taking pills! Between the Metformin, Zoloft and Prenatals I was already sick of them. Then we added the Clomid and then I got sick and had to take an antibiotic. After a while you just want to scream "ENOUGH!".

jodylovesscotty, this is only my 2nd cycle of Clomid. They only u/s last cycle because CD21 fell on Labor Day weekend and I wouldn't have been able to come in until CD23 or so. The u/s last time showed follicles of 2.3 cm though and I guess that's good (P.A. said they look for 2cm).
So happy for your for reducing the shots. I'm sure that takes a load off. Hope things go your way this cycle!

Congrats GA Girl! That is excellent news, and gives so many of us hope to keep trying.

Well, AF reared her ugly head this morning. The goods news is that my LP was 14 days, which is the longest ever. Could have something to do with this being the first cycle after my last miscarriage. Onward.

I'm rapidly approaching the due date from my 1st chemical pregnancy, it would have been Oct. 19th. I was certain I'd be pregnant again by that time, but apparently not :( . Ugghh, I hate this TTC journey.

I'm right there with you at CD 1 jjsanner. I am so sick of this! I just want to go hide under a rock! Now I must decide what the next step is. My choices:

1. post-coital followed by one of the other options
2. Clomid
3. IUI (only thing insurance doesn't cover)
4. Clomid + IUI
5. nothing
6. Go to RE- what I really want to do except that it is 45 minutes from home and about an hour and 1/2 from work.

I feel like I can't emotionally handle doing anything else medical, but the frustrating part is that I don't feel like I can emotionally handle doing nothing either. I am just so sick of this!

jjsanner: Sorry about AF, but good news about your long LP. I wouldn't think your miscarriage would be causing that, but I'm no expert. Could you explain to me what a "chemical" pg is? I've seen the term around, but have no clue what it means. Sorry about the approaching date.

Jess71903: I hope you and your DH can decide on the next round of treatment you both feel comfortable and confident with. Keep us posted so that we know what you decide.

Congratulations on your pregnancy GA Gal! Have a healthy and happy 9 months. Do you have any words of wisdom to share as you leave?

Pocahontas – I can’t answer your insurance question but I would suggest calling them or speaking with your RE’s office. I just talk to my RE’s office and have them spell out for me what will be covered, what won’t etc.

Cath – Congratulations time three!! It has to be scary and confusing but try to believe that everything will work out. Best of wishes to you.

Byrd – Welcome to our group! My doc prescribed Clomid only in combination with Metformin because of the PCOS.

GA GAL – Yahoo! and Congratulations. You make me believe there is hope. What was your protocal this cycle?

Jjsanner – Hang in there, lady. As that DD approaches it gets so hard. For me it even got harder afterwards but there is truth when people say the journey get’s easier.

Sorry I can't go further back but I only have a second on CC tonight. Anyone testing soon? If so, best of luck!! :)

GA Gal, I am by no means an expert on terminology, but I have heard that a chemical pregnancy is an early miscarriage before the heartbeat is seen. In our case, both miscarriages were very early, 4W and 4W4D, respectively.

We are still on the fence about further testing. I truly believe that it will happen when it is meant to happen, but I am getting so impatient! And, my biggest fear is getting pregnant again only to lose it due to some immune condition. This cycle will be unmedicated as it is already CD 1, so we're hoping for a miracle.

Congrats GA_Gal! That is such great news!

Sorry about AF Jess! I hope you are able to figure out the best option for you and Tony.

Hey ladies,

I was part of the Still at it thread a while ago and then we decided to hold off on the process. We are looking to start up again in January. So, I'll be joining again at that time for support. I haven't made my first RE appt yet., but it'll probably shoot for December. I look forward to getting to know you ladies...but not for long ;)

Hi Ladies-

Congrats to all who have conceived. A H& H 9 months to you!

I visited with the RE on Monday. After a 49 day cycle, 2 lightly positive HPTs followed by negative ones, 5 days of Provera, I am now on CD5 or 6... RE confirmed an early miscarriage last cycle but said we are a go for this month. This will be our last cycle trying just injectables and al the other meds. If this month doesn't work...it's IVF or nothing else right now.... I am nervous, sad, excited, and trying to remain positive.

Bellefior~ My only advice is when doing shots is to make sure you pinch enough skin, if you don't it hurst like heck. I think after you give yourself the first one, it is all downhill after that. I give mine in my stomache, that is until today when my husband has to learn to give it to me in my hip.

Alioop12345~I hope that everything will work out for you!

MrsSmith~ Glad to see you stranger, hope your not here long. We were just talking about you at our last gtg.

Went to the RE this morning. He said I am not repsonding as well this time on the meds. So my husband has to go today on his lunch break to learn how to give me the shots. He said doing it in the muscle works better than the subq. Personally I think it is because I was on Lupron until 2 days ago. Who knows. I call after 1:00 to find out what to do next.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome, and big congrats to Cath and GA GAL!!!!

Patience– did you have trouble switching from one insurance to another? Currently, my insurance covers a variety of diagnostic testing, and 3 months of IUI. No medications or other treatment. My company offers another insurance with much better coverage that I can switch to, but it wouldn’t take effect until next year (January). I’d love to get the ball rolling on the testing, but I’m afraid that if I do, any diagnosis would be considered a “pre-existing condition” and not covered by the new insurance.

To be honest, I’m not even sure what constitutes a “pre-existing condition” – it’s just something I’ve heard before.

Also, when I do make an appointment, should I go to my regular OB/GYN or go straight to an RE?

I hope everyone else is doing well and staying positive. I’m at a boring time in my cycle (CD 4). Blah

Hey Jodylovesscotty! I wish I could have made the last GTG. Maybe I'll be at the next one :)

I am going to switch RE's. When I was trying before i never really connected with my doc or felt that she was rooting for me. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but it bothered me. So, I'm going to check out another doc. He's an older guy, but his office is closer to my house anyway. So, we'll see. I'm calling today to get an appt.

Wow - so much going on! :)

gymwidow - so glad your results continue to go up - we'll miss you but are glad you're moving on!

kazata - I get like that every month, tell myself we can't possibly be pg because of one reason or another yet I still get upset when we're not. Hang in there!

GA GAL - CONGRATULATIONS!

Asha - glad you have a date and a plan - keep us posted!

looty - here's to a speedy and successful 2WW. I love your avatar BTW.

jodylovesscotty - good luck with the new protocol

cath - congrats on the triplets - yikes! :D

KaliLily - welcome but you may find other groups on CC that are more fitting for you. The women on this thread have been TTC for at least six months, most more than a year unsuccessfully. You're welcome to stay just know that we may be throwing around a lot of stuff that is not applicable to you yet.

DaniML - sorry to hear that you didn't O - I hope they are able to figure out why and give you the proper drug cocktail.

Byrd's Boogie - welcome, there are many knowledgeable women here - it does look like you've been through a lot. Hopefully your stay is short. The first several cycles that I took clomid I was not on anything else. This last cycle that I used Clomid (my last) they put me on progesterone suppositories but nothing else.

jjsanner - I'm sure this is a tough time for you, we're all there with you.

Alioop - hugs to you

Bellefior - I actually had an easier time giving myself my first shot - then I started chickening out. I don't have any wise words just know that we've all been there. Kudos to your DH for stepping up!

ctjo - if you haven't seen your ob/gyn in the last 13 months then you should probably start there. Some are willing to treat infertility, others will refer you to an RE immediately. Just make sure you're getting the attention you want because I wasted many months with my ob/gyn before I gave up and found my own RE.

MrsSmith - good luck with the new doctor.

********************
Me - still just waiting. Today is day 11 past the last dose of Provera. AF should have been here be now. I've never gone this long. I also have NO symptoms of AF, no bloating, no sore bb's, nothing. Now I'm going to do exactly what I told kazata not to do, but what if I'm pg? I'll wait until Monday to take a HPT and either way I'll call my RE. I have done some reading and found that while Provera does cause miscarriages it doesn't cause birth defects so that is good. We'll see - I'm just waiting. :rolleyes:

ctjo You know, I didn't even ask if IF diagnosis would be considered a pre-existing condition. I went under the assumption that IF testing and treatment would be covered under my insurance, so I switched. I guess I'll find out when January comes around. My DH's insurance didn't cover any treatment, so either way, I would have to pay out of pocket if my insurance considers IF to be a pre-existing condition. I would call your doctor's office and the insurance you're switching to in order to confirm this before you make the switch. I had a long talk with my insurance company to verify all the coverage before I switched. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works out.

Like TazLuv, I started my IF testing with my Ob/Gyn, but looking back, I probably should have asked for the RE referral sooner. Most women have to be referred to a RE if they are under a HMO plan. I did 3 cycles with Clomid monitored by bloodwork (no u/s - insurance didn't cover it) with my Ob/Gyn. Now I'm on my first cycle of Clomid+IUI with my RE. I like my RE more because he's not in a rush like my Ob/Gyn was. I feel like I'm getting much better care from him.

-----
Update: I had my CD12 u/s today and I have a good follicle (19-20mm, forget which ovary), so I'm all set for my IUI either tomorrow or Friday depending on whether I get my LH surge today. If I don't get the surge, then I'm triggering with a shot of Ovidrel. Although the needle looks small, I don't know if I have the courage to inject it into my stomach. My DH offered to do it for me because I'm such a chicken. :p I'm hopeful this will work, but part of me is preparing for disappointment because I don't want another emotional breakdown in two weeks if it doesn't work.

Alioop – I have reached the point where my RE is suggesting IVF or nothing else. I have felt all the emotions you are feeling now. It is such a difficult place to be but it does get better. Best luck on this last cycle. :)

jodylovesscotty
10-11-2006, 02:29 PM
Patience~ The trigger shot is easy as cake. Just make sure you squeeze enough skin together. The meds and the needle don't hurt.

DH went and learned how to give the shots. Now the true test is when he gets home and has to give my first one today. Little nervous for that.

TazLuv
10-11-2006, 02:34 PM

GA_GAL
10-11-2006, 04:09 PM
Bellefior, jodylovesscotty, TazLuv: My DH begged me to let him do the shots...I let him at first, but after I started doing them myself, that was easier for me. jodylovesscotty, hope it goes well tonight.

Patience: yea for a good follie! Hope this IUI is the one that does it for you!

TazLuv: Hope you know something before Monday. I know the waiting is horrible.

honeygirl: Thank you...I think the only words of wisdom to leave you with would be to not give up hope. There were so many times when I thought it would never happen for me, but I just had to believe that it would and that I would be pregnant. I used to visualize me with kids, being pregnant, etc. Keep believing it will happen and try to stay as positive as possible. Each month, even if you aren't pregnant, look for anything good that happened with that cycle and focus on that. Good Luck!

bumble: Keep the faith! I know it is hard, but I'm sure things will happen for you soon. This cycle I was on 125 IU of Menopur injections and had a trigger shot with an IUI. This was actually the first month that the dose was right and I was actually able to do a trigger and IUI. Lots of trial and error prior to that.

jjsanner: Thanks for that explanation. I hope that this cycle brings you your miracle!

looty: Thanks you!

Alioop12345: Best of luck with this cycle. I just got pregnant on our "this is the last try before IVF" and I hope you have the same outcome that I did!

Bellefior: Don't think you are a whimp! Giving your self a shot for the first time is a big deal and something a lot of people could never do. I was very scared at first and my DH did them for me the first few times. However, he travels for work quite a bit and I was forced to do it myself. I was shaking so bad, but I just kept reminding myself that it was all for a baby and that I could do it. The first time I was freaking out, but got through it. Each time got easier and easier until this last cycle when I could have practically done it with my eyes closed. One thing that I found helped me was to divert my attention from the fact that a needle was going into my stomach. I would dig/poke my fingernail into the skin when I was squeezing my skin for the shot. It made me think of that pain instead of the needle. My shots were always in the stomach, so I'm not sure if you squeeze your skin on your thigh, but I think the poke-your-self method might work for you! Let me know how it goes tomorrow.

Bellefior - I'm not sure if I'm hormonal or what, but reading your post made me tear up. Congrats on giving yourself a shot! :)

GA_GAL - Thank you for the words of wisdom. I think it is a great idea to focus on the good parts of each cycle. I'll try that.

I'm still waiting to O. This is looking like an even longer cycle than usual (I'm on CD27 right now). Either it's going to be annovulatory or I'm just O'ing really late. The good part about it going longer is that we have a chance of BD'ing at the right time next cycle (since DH will be traveling a lot in Nov). So, I'm not too upset with the delayed O.

CTs_Punkin~ Glad the cysts are finally going away. I had them last month after doing injectibles, so I know a little about how annoying it is. I hope that this month is productive for you.

TazLuv~ Not that I am ever glad about AF, but it sounds like she was much needed. Glad you can move on now.

GA_GAL~ That is awesome about your beta! Happy 9 months to you:)

Bellefior~ The shots get much easier over time. Lupron is easy. Are you going to do repronex? I do those and they suck. If so at least you learned with the easy drug.

As for me, I went to the RE this morning. It appears that doing the repronex intramuscular (in the butt area) rather than under the skin is helping. My husband even loves giving me the shots. He feels important. When I went on Wednesday I just had one follie and when I went today there were 3 good ones brewing. I go back on Sunday morning and have to call after one to see what tweaking they will do with my drugs.

pocahontas, did you ever get an answer from your ins. co. as to what they meant by 3 attempts per live birth? I'm curious to hear how they define that!

Dani, I'm so sorry this cycle was a bust. I hope your week has gotten better!

jody, I'm glad the IM shots are doing the job. I really hope this IUI is the one!

Jess, I also had spotting while on Prometrium. I hope it went away for you. Good luck making a decision as to what to do next. What does your DH think?

Byrd's Boogie, welcome to the group - they're awesome! Good luck to you. I took Provera to bring on AF and I usually got it pretty quickly after starting the meds. I never took estrogen while on Clomid, but I did take progesterone (Prometrium) during my LP.

GA GAL, it's a bit belated and I've said it in the June mommies thread, but CONGRATS!!!!!

jjsanner, hugs to you.

MrsSmith, good luck!

Alioop, I'm so sorry. Hugs to you and lots of luck for this cycle!

Bellefior, I found that icing did help. I put two ice cubes in a paper towel up against my skin for about 2-3 minutes first. I did my shots in my belly, so I don't know if that would make a difference for you. It's hard at first but it does get easier!

ctjo, call the ins. co. and ask about the pre-existing condition thing. My DH and I are contemplating switching insurance as well and I just spoke to my company's agent yesterday about it. She seemed to think that they can't deny coverage for IF based on pre-existing condition. I sure hope she's right!

TazLuv, thanks! I'm glad the Provera finally did the trick for you. Waiting for AF sucks so much!

Patience, good luck with this IUI. I hope it's your last. ;)

honeygirl, I hope you don't even have to worry about next cycle. Good luck catching this month's egg.

CTs Punkin, fingers are crossed!

lawphil, good luck!

Gymwidow! 2???? HOW EXCITING!!!! :D This just keeps getting better! I am so excited for you! Thanks for keeping up with us all. DH is on board with whatever I want to do. He told me yesterday or the day before that he thought we should go ahead with IUI, I think because this is so hard on me every month. Anyway, that's why I stopped by....

I just got off the phone with the nurse. I called yesterday late afternoon to tell them we wanted to do IUI. She started telling me the procedure and now my head is spinning. I am to start Clomid tomorrow, CD 3-7, then DH had to give me a Repronex shot in the butt CD 8-11:( . CD 12 I go in for an u/s and we will go from there...I guess I didn't expect all the drugs, but I think I want to give ourselves the best chance since we are paying out of pocket (side note- this is the only thing insurance doesn't pay anything on. If anyone is looking for good IF coverage, move to Arkansas! We are one of only 9 states that requires IF to be covered- even IVF!). It isnt very expensive. She said $192, and that the u/s and stuff is covered. Anyway, as long as I have been reading along in this thread, I have to admit I kind of skipped over the talk of specifics on the injections and such. It's all Greek to me. Guess I should have payed better attention!:rolleyes:

jodylovesscotty
10-13-2006, 11:26 AM
Jess71903~ That is gret that you are getting the ball rolling and going ahead with IUI. I am on my 3rd IUI cycle. I also do repronex. I was wondering why they are having you do clomid before repronex. To me that doesn't sound right. The repronex will already make you have 3-4 eggs. I do repronex starting on 3 instead of the clomid. Then I get bloodwork and ultrasound done every 2 days. Repronex works really fast especially when injecting in the butt. On Wednesday I really didn't have any eggs brewing. When I went in this morning I had 3. Works much faster in the muscle (butt) than stomach as I have done it both ways. OK enough rambling.

gymwidow~ Can't wait to hear the results. Keep us posted!

lawphil~ Welcome! This is a great bunch of knowledgable women. Why does AF have to hold off? Isn't your clinic open everyday?

honeygirl
10-13-2006, 01:03 PM
Welcome lawphil! That would be great if you could do testing while you're already at the RE and get started right away!

Gymwidow - Wow, crossing my fingers that you hear the 2 heartbeats!

I have a question for you ladies. I just got my results back from the RE (the testing that they did on my 1st appt last month) and I came back + for yeast. He wants me to take an OTC medication. Is it strange that I have a yeast infection without knowing it (no symptoms)? I asked the lady and she said that it wasn't uncommon but I don't believe her. ;) Also, can having too much yeast affect O'ing or TTC? I'll go google this subject but wondered if any of you knew?

Jess71903
10-13-2006, 02:40 PM
jodylovesscotty- I have no idea! Could it have something to do with the fact that I have a blocked tube, so maybe we want to make sure I have enough follies on the unblocked side? I don't know. I am going to see if I can talk to the nurse when I go get it.

pocahontas
10-13-2006, 03:07 PM
GYM: Nope, I figured since I'll be at my RE's office next week I'm gonna have a talk with the receptionist (since she was the one who initially called my ins. to see if IUI and IVF were even covered). I am sure she will be able to make sense of it all because she probably had to deal with people's ins. every day in her line of work and I imagine she has "heard it all"! :rolleyes:

Alright...for all you ladies with IUI experience I am giving this whole thing a lot of my valuable thought process and I have some questions in case we actually do this, the first of which is how does the part with your DH work? My DH asked me about it and ya know what? I never thought to ask because I was to busy analyzing the "TO Clomid or NOT TO Clomid" question. :p So is it that he goes in a few minutes before you and gives his "sample" then comes your turn? Or does he have to show up in the AM and then they aren't ready for you until PM? I guess I am just looking for a turn around time. I knew it couldn't be a 2 day thing (i.e. he does his thing on Tuesday and you have to wait until Wednesday to be "inseminated".) But I didn't exactly know what kind of timeframes IUIs work with...actually, how long is the insemination part is a better question? :confused: (I suppose I am trying to gauge if this is something that can be done if you take a half day off work or if it requires you to be out the whole entire day.) TIA!

jodylovesscotty
10-13-2006, 03:17 PM
pocahontas~ Here is how my office does it. My DH goes in at 7:00 and produces his sample. I come at 8:00 after they have it washed and then get inseminated. It takes all of 30 seconds then I lay there for 20 minutes. So DH is in and out and goes to work. He doesn't even stick around. Then we do the same thing the next day. They also let you produce it at home as long as you can get it to the office within and hour.

Patience - I hope your IUI went well - hopefully the 2WW goes fast as well!

GA_GAL - congrats on your betas!

Bellefior - glad the shots are getting better! Hang in there!

honeygirl - glad a delayed O is working out for someone! :) Sorry I can't be any help on the yeast infection.

CTs_Punkin- I can't imagine waiting three cycles. I'm glad you're back in the game!

jodylovesscotty - glad to hear your follies are cooperating!

lawphil - welcome, we hope your stay is short!

gymwidow - here's hoping your Wednesday appointment brings you doubly good news :)

Jess71903 - that sounds just like the drugs I was on last cycle. Let me know if you have any questions. I will tell you that my body didn't react they way they wanted to the repronex so this cycle we're on to something different.

Pocohantas - we haven't done this yet but I'm told our clinic's timing is that DH gives his sample between 7 and 8 and the IUI happens at 10am. I don't know how long the IUI takes.

*******************
Me - well we're proceeding. YAY! The cysts are either gone or small enough to proceed, they didn't say and I don't really care. :) So today is CD-2, tomorrow will be the first day of my Gonal-f injection. I give myself 112.5 units of that Saturday - Wednesday and then go in for a blood test and follie check Thursday morning. The only thing I'm concerned about is the pen/needle that this drug comes in. There are several doses in on pen and you turn the dial to determine the dosage. I'm afraid I'm going to give myself too much or too little. Anyone have experience with one of these?

Everyone have a nice weekend! :)

TazLuv Thanks for thinking of me. I hope my 2WW isn't going to be too bad, but I tend to overanalyze every twinge so we'll see if I drive myself nuts or not. ;) Yay for the cysts being gone. That's a good questions about the Gonal-F pen. I was thinking the same thing the other night when I was watching the video on injecting the Ovidrel and also watched the one on Gonal-F. I hope someone here will have the answer for you.

pocahontas I had my first IUI today, so here's how it is for my doctor's office. My DH produces the sample in a cup at home and I bring it into the office within an hour. The sample is processed (approx. 45 mins.) and I return to do the IUI. The IUI took less than 5 mins. and I layed on the table at an angle for 20 mins. Everything from start to finish took 2 hours. I took the rest of the day off just because I wanted to relax and not be stressed at work.

honeygirl I also didn't realize that you can have a yeast infection without symptoms. Sorry I can't help you with your questions.

Jess71903 Wow, I should move to Arkansas if I have to do IVF! That's great you're moving forward with IUI. Don't worry, I'm sure the ladies here will be able to answer any question you have concerning injections or IUI. Good luck!

gymwidow Thank you! I hope it's my last too! Congrats on the two sacs!!! I wish you the best on Wednesday.

lawphil Welcome! I hope your stay here will be short.

jodylovesscotty That's great that you have 3 follies. I hope this will be your last IUI!

CTs_Punkin Hooray on the cysts being gone! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for this cycle being successful. Have fun in LA!

GA_GAL Congrats on graduating! We're sorry to see you go, but we're happy that it's for a great reason! Thanks for your good wishes on my IUI.

Me - Had my IUI this morning. I didn't even feel it when the doctor inserted the cartheter in. Afterwards, I layed on the table for 20 mins. I was trying to relax and imagine the sperm penetrating the egg. I took the rest of the day off because I didn't want to deal with work stress today. I also had my acupuncture treatment right afterwards. I had a little bit of spotting in the afternoon. Overall it was a good experience. Now I just wait and see if it was a success.

Thanks JODY, TAZ and PATIENCE. That is really helpful info. (And coincidentally PATIENCE, my accupunturist wanted to see me for a session right after the IUI too! :) Hoping that means good things for both of us.) So I'm thinking I may actually go through with it and give this IUI thing a chance...I have really been procrastinating trying to weigh the pros and cons and trying not to be a pessimist. (God, I'm so analytical. :rolleyes: ) Let me ask you JODY and PATIENCE since both of you have done this...did you go it with Clomid or with injectibles (or neither)?

TazLuv- I use the Gonal F and I have not had any problems with the pen. Just make sure you prime the prn before using it the first time by turning the dial to 37.5 and then pull back the plunger and instead of injecting it into you, injerct it into the air. Then, it's set to go...turn to your dose and inject. Warning, you must store it in the fridge. My pharmacist didn't tell me this for about three months. Also, don't be alarmed if you bruise. Do the stick part quickly, it hurts much less then if you put the needle in slowly...in fact, I don't even feel it if I stick quickly. I started out doing the 75 dose daily and then got switched to 150....now, after making more than 8 follies last month, I am back to the 75 dose and will go in Monday for a follie check.

pocahontas~ I do injectibles on repronex. My RE won't even use clomid. If he were going to put me on something (we discussed it before) he would use femara instead. Clomid dries you up and doesn't do nice things to your lining and femara doesn't have those side effects. We went for injectibles because it produces more eggs and with the sperm issue we want more than just one or two good ones. If your DH doesn't have issues with his sperm then you may want to try one or two rounds with just Clomid. Hope that helps.

Thanks Alioop12345 - I'm on 112.5 units and give myself my first injection tonight so we'll see how it goes. I'm sooooo glad not to be on Clomid this month, just as jodylovesscotty says it really dried me up!

I just wanted to chime in and say that my Dr. prescribed Clomid for me on days 3-7, Estradiol days 8-12 and prochieve days 17 thru 28 and to continue the prochieve if I get a BFP. The Estrodiol and prochieve are supposed to help the lining of the uterus develop properly. He said that the extra estrogen would help with dryness and he also mentioned cough syrup. Of course I have yet to start because I am currently on the longest cycle of my life, but I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on why Dr.'s dont prescribe Chlomid with Estrogen and progesterone all the time if it's supposed to help?

pocahontas My acupuncturist said it would be best to have a treatment before and after the IUI, but there was no time before my IUI so I just went with the one afterwards. Yes, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the treatment helped. I did this IUI with Clomid alone because it was a cheaper option for me right now. I'm going to switch insurance for 2007 and IF treatments are 50% covered, so I'm waiting until 2007 to do injectables. In my case we don't have a sperm issue, so it's more a matter of making it easier for the egg and sperm to meet.

GREAT STUFF! Thanks to you ladies I am learning more than I did at the RE :D ...but let me ask this. For those who've had an issue with Clomid "drying them up" has anyone used Pre-Seed to solve that problem? I have heard great things about it in situations like these. Now when my RE read me the drill on the side effects of Clomid she also mentioned the hot flashes, potential headaches, etc. But I am wondering (for those using injectibles) do you find you experience any of the same side effects? Or are the side effects completely of a different nature? (Or better yet are there no side effects at all?)

Gym – Woo-hoo for twins!! That is exciting news. How are you feeling about all this?

Jess – Good luck with this new cycle. I know the clomid/shot/iui seem like a lot but it really is a breeze.

Lawphil – Welcome!

Pocahontas – On the IUI, my DH would go in and “drop off” his deposit. I was then go back about 1.5 hours later to have it “deposited” in me. The deposit is done super fast but I often had to wait a while to get it done. Usually because the lab hadn’t finished the wash. I was always able to do the procedure on my lunch but looking back I wish I would have taken a half do. I say that because once I was back at work the day was always rushed and I feel like relaxing and laying low have to be better (in some way, you know?).

Also, I had 4 IUI’s. Three were with Clomid and one was with Injectables. The Clomid dried me up so I asked my RE’s office what they suggest and I kid you not – the reply was vegetable oil. So that’s what we used. My other side effects with Clomid were lack of sex drive and hot flashes. The hot flashes were hell. With Injectables I had completely different side effects. I was much more bloated and wanted sex all the time. Good luck!

pocahontas~ I've used preseed and still do. That is the only lubricant my RE will let us use when DH has to provide his sample. I know here on CC there is a thread that says femglide is the same thing and I bought it. I like it, but my RE said no to that as well. So if you want something I would buy the preseed. As for the side effects, I didn't have any side effects while on Clomid (before I saw RE) and the only side effect I get once in a while on the injectibles in a small headache and red welts at the injection site when doing repronex subq (under the skin).

Byrd's Boogie~ I do progesterone suppositories after each IUI so I am sure it is a standard protocol.

I went to the RE this morning again. Follies are still pumping up. I had 3 good size ones. I have to do 3 more vials tonight and go in again the in the morning. They just aren't getting big fast, they are taking the slow and steady route. I hope to do my IUIs this week:)

Oh gee....go away for a week and look at all the action!

Belated congratulations to GAgal. That is very good news that you should conceive on your "last cycle before IVF." I wish that would've been true for us too. Have a good pregnancy!

gymwindow As I've mentioned in the past I am a twin auntie. So I have a little bit of experience with twins. Oh baby! Oh baby! I'll catch you over on IVF if you're still around.

Welcome to the newbies!

Thanks patience. I did have a great week off. Filled with nothing except visiting relatives, eatting out, shopping and just a whole lot of nothing. I am dreading my return to work. Yuck! Did you have the IUI? Hope it went well and will cross my fingers.

Well I guess I have some reading to do. Hope you are all well and managing the shots, the clomid, the IUIs and so on. 2-3 more weeks until my IVF consult so nothing to report here. After more than 2 years...a couple weeks seems like nothing but I am still excited. Pick up a copy of all of my prior test results this week to take along.

Hi Ladies,

I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Welcom, ABirney

I am looking forward to my first RE appointment tomorrow. It is a small blessing that my period held out unil Sunday, so that Tuesday will be day 3. I am hoping that they will do blood tests on Tuesday - so that I don't have to wait an entire month for day 3 blood tests. I may call today to make sure that is part of the plan...

Anyway, I have the most horrendous cramps ever. I have always had bad cramps but I think the clomid has made them even worse!

Anyway, I will check back in to let you all know how the appointment went.

9/06: First cycle on 50mg Clomid, Failed, No O
10/06 100mg Clomid

I'm bummed, but ready to get on with things. I'm on day 3 of 5 on Provera today, then have to wait for AF, and then on to the Clomid and BD'ing.

take care girls.

Just checking in quickly. Saw the RE today, CD 12, on 75 of Gonal F, 25mG Viagra supps BID, and 4mg Estradial...had many very small follies, no dominant follie, lining was already at 8mm!!! This is a record. I am also scheduled for acupuncture next Monday. I am to continue on all doses of everything until Thursday when I go back in for another U/S. DH has to go out of town on Wednesday night but will be back Thursda so hopefully this will be perfect! I am a little concerned because I just did my Gonal F injection and when I removed the pen from my tummy, a BIG squirt of meds came out too. This has never happened before... I went ahead and gave myself another half dose....since things are moving so slowly, I figured it would be ok... butnow that this stuff is no longer convered on our insurance, it's like liquid GOLD, KWIM?

Welcome over here ABirney!

LDS Angel- I hope this round of Clomid does it for you!

Jessied- as I said in the charting thread, good luck tomorrow, and I will be thinking about you!

Thanks for the support for the IUI, ladies. Right now I am terrified! One of the charting girls posted about a story on Discovery Health about a woman who had meds +IUI that had triplets, I think. Not that I couldn't love 3, but the possibility of having more than 2 scares me to death! Will they be able to tell how many they think will actually ovulate on the first u/s? If there are too many, I will probably refuse it!

TazLuv
10-16-2006, 05:31 PM
Jess - I don't know how they tell but my RE did tell me that if in any cycle they think I have too many follies ready to mature they will pull the plug on the cycle. As she said "that is how you end up on TV" :eek: Of course the difference between two and three might not be noticeable - she was talking more like 4+. Good luck! :D

Jess71903
10-16-2006, 05:50 PM

Jess~ They will be able to tell during your ultrasounds how many follies you have as well as measure the sizes. My RE lets me make the decision and won't just cut off the cycle like TazLuv's. I had 4 follies last cycle and only 3 dropped. This time I have 5 but not all getting that big so they won't make it.

lawphil Good luck with your RE appt. tomorrow. Hopefully they'll let you do the CD3 tests.

LDS Angel 19 Sorry to hear that the 50 mg Clomid didn't work.

Alioop12345 You're so right about injectables being like liquid gold. I'm just happy that my insurance will pay half; otherwise, our finances will be a little tighter for 2007.

ctjo I remember the results for my DH's SA took less than 1 week. Good luck with your annual appt.

jessied1025 Good luck on your HSG tomorrow! Don't forget to take the pain killers beforehand. I'm glad your DH is going with you. It's nice to have the moral support even if he can't be in the room.

Jess71903 Your RE should be able to tell you how many follicles that's likely to ovulate because you can see the dominant follies on the u/s screen. At least that was my experience. So, if you're uncomfortable with too many follies, I'm sure you should be able to cancel the cycle yourself. Hey, it's your money!

I can already tell that I am going to be horrible on this shout out thing!

Hi All,

I wanted to report back after my appointment this morning. It went well - the RE seemed very calm and nice. Hopefully she will produce some good results as well!

We are going to spend this month doing baseline tests to see where all of my hormone levels are throughout the month and then based on that come up with a plan of action. So my schedule of tests is: day 3 blood tests, day 7 Sonohysterogram, day 10 HSG, day 14 Follicle Check, day 21 Progesterone check. Wow that is a lot of appointments! Luckily today was day 3 so they took a ton of blood - I think there were 6 viles - so they are going to do FSH, LH, Thyroid stuff.

Oh, and DH has to make his appointment for his SA. He has to abstain for 3 to 5 days so I am going to push him to make it asap so we can get on with the BD when the time comes.

Anyway, I feel very optimistic and glad to be heading in the right direction. I was half way hoping that we would just jump into meds but know that it is great to take a month and find out what is going on before pumping more meds into my system. So we are a back to doing in the old fashion way!

First off, sorry if this is long and wordy. I just copied it from my LJ.

I had my HSG this moring and everything went well. I was extremely nervous going into the appointment. When the nurse started telling me how the procedure works I started crying a little bit. She was really nice and understanding and indicated that I have a good doctor and that she will try and make it as painless as possible. I was lucky enough that they let Jim come in the room with me. He had to put on a vest during the procedure, but it was nice being able to hold onto his hand. The only time I really felt anything was when she held down my cervix and when she started pushing the dye into my uterus and tubes. Fortunately they didn't find any blockage in the tubes or any polyps or an odd shape to the uterus. They had me roll onto each side so they could check everthing, which caused a little tightness but nothing major.

My doctor asked Jim if or when he was going to have his SA. He indicated that he had it, but was waiting for results. Today he is going to contact his doctor's office and had the results faxed over to my doctor.

The next step: Once she receives Jim's SA results she can determine if any further testing is needed for me. Right now she is not ruling out endometriosis, but doesn't think I have it since I don't really have any of the normal signs. I did ask her if she was concerned about the pain I get before I ovulate, which has been greatly discreased since I have been able to stay regular. She indicated that since my pain has decreased she is not as concerned with it, but should keep her informed if it get worse again. She gave me a prescription for Clomid (100mg) and Estrace (sp?)(estrogen) to use during my next cycle. She also indicated to make use of this cycle, since there is a good chance of getting pregnant right after a HSG.

So now we just have to keep our hopes up and keep BDing and hope that we get our BFP!!!

I do have a question with Clomid. I thought Clomid was only used for individuals that don't O? Is it common to be given to increase the size of the folicles? I guess I don't know that much about Clomid and I will definately have to do some reseaching.

skb

jessie Glad your HSG was ok....mine sucked and I had to have it done twice! Once I was cleared via HSG my doc also prescribed clomid. I do ovulate on my own and have a very regular cycle without problems. My docs goal was to produce 1 dominant follicle, track via ultrasound and time intercourse. He viewed it as the first low level treatment for infertility.

jessied1025 - I'm glad that your HSG wasn't too horrible. It's great that your DH was able to go with you and lend some support! I have heard that women are more fertile after the procedure, so good luck! As for the Clomid, my RE gave me a perscription and I O. They give it to women who have a "weak O", long cycles, etc. It appears to be a frequently perscribed drug judging from all the women around here that are on it (or were on it). :)

Ladies I'm on CD32 but I think that I did O, so I might be 11dpo. However, if I did O it must have been VERY weak b/c my temps have hardly risen at all. They're just barely above my usual coverline (97.2 or 97.3). However, I've started spotting and I think that AF is on her way. That's just fine by me b/c I want to get started on the medicated cycle already (clomid). This has been a weird cycle all around b/c I didn't know if I o'd, I had a Yeast Infection (unknown to me, my RE told me), etc. I'll be glad for it to be over.

Any advice for getting my DH to do his SA? He's giving me static which is so annoying since this is the only test he's had to do (and I've done many). Sigh. I don't want to pressure him but at the same time he needs to do it! Have any of you had this problem with your DH?

papergirl

Nothing much to report on my end. Yesterday I had an appointment to do my checklist testing in order to proceed with IVF. I should probably get to reading the very large stack of papers they gave me on IVF and the consent forms but I haven’t gotten around to that. We’ve only had them for… oh, two months. I’m still living in my world of bliss where TTC doesn’t exist. DH did say we need to have a serious talk about IVF. He only wants to try once where I am willing to do two cycles since insurance pays for it. I guess we will see.

Honeygirl - Sorry to hear that DH is giving you static about the SA. My DH wasn’t excited over it. Can you rationalize with your husband that he has to be tested, sooner rather then later, because if he is the problem then it might be something which drugs like clomid or injectables won’t work to fix. If the problem were on his end it may even be possible that IUI’s are not a good option. Not to mention, all of these things can add up to a lot of money that may end up being a waste. It only makes sense to rule problems out so that you can focus on what the issue is.

skb~ I am not sure I understand your question, but will try to answer anyway. Each part: count, motility, and morphology can be different and still effect your ttc. For example, my DH has great count and motility, but pretty crappy morphology (only 4% when 14% is considered normal). So each part plays a role. I hope that answers your question. If you give specifics maybe I could help a little more.

jessied1025~ Glad to hear your HSG went well. I had to have 2 and I know how bad they suck for a moment. Hopefully all you needed was a good cleaning:) And clomid is to either make more than one target or strenghten the egg you have. I took clomid even though I ovulated every month.

I go back to the RE tomorrow. I hope that I get to trigger tomorrow. As I was reading the pamphlet in the repronex box it said not to take for more than 12 days and today is 13 so I hope I don't need anymore. Also, I am getting bloated and have EWCM so I know they should be getting ready to go!

In the immortal words of my dearest yayagirl - "At least his test is fun."

Maybe there is something specific he is worried about. My DH had some concerns that they might not have porn he likes. Bumble - didn't your DH have this worry too? I might be remembering wrong. In the end Pita produced his sample at home and I took it in for him. But that only works if you are less than an hour away from your clinic. For the IUI he will have to do it at the hospital, but in the last 2 yrs he is singing a way different tune on whacking off in a hospital bathroom. Really, he needs to take the long view. 5 minutes of abject humiliation vs. correct diagnosis of your infertility? Come on now.

I've been trying to stay out of this thread in my "off time" from TTC. But I can't, of course. I have to compulsively check it all the time. Anyway, my appt is tomorrow mornign for the u/s to check on my cysties. I hope they are gone, but I am steeling myself for another month of Depo Lupron. My sex drive is totally gone. I don't sleep well because I wake from hot flashes 2-3 times in the night. The other day I had a hot flash in the middle of a presentation at an all-staff meeting. Great. I also start acupuncture next thursd so I will let you guys know how that goes too.

jody Sorry I'm not being very clear. I've been collecting our old test results for our IVF consult. Basically I was reading DH SA results and was always under the impression they were *normal* At the time (2 years ago) my doc had commented that the morphology was a little off but the count was very good and therefore he was not concerned. I've just not given any thought to morphology.

Thanks for the info. I am sure I will be able to decide when to cut it off. I am hoping for just one or 2 from the good side. I don't think I could say no if there were 3, but the thought still scares me!

I had my HSG this moring and everything went well. Fortunately they didn't find any blockage in the tubes or any polyps or an odd shape to the uterus.

I do have a question with Clomid. I thought Clomid was only used for individuals that don't O? Is it common to be given to increase the size of the folicles? I guess I don't know that much about Clomid and I will definately have to do some reseaching.
I am so glad things went well! I hope you can get Jim's SA results to your dr, but I really hope it doesn't matter and you get pg this cycle by yourself!

Add me to the "I O regularly and I am on Comid" list. Mine is mainly for the IUI, but she has been trying to get me to take it for a while now and I have refused because I do O so regularly. I was looking for the "Clomid for Dummies thread, but couldnt' find it.

I hope this confusing cycle is about over for you! I really hope the Clomid does the trick!
As for getting stubborn DH's to do the SA- Mine was a little better with it because we didn't have to do it at the office. Actually we went to a nearby park and made out like teenagers!:p . He asked to get it done out of pride, though. he was SO afraid the problem was going to be him and he really wanted to know for sure it wasn't. I would find out as much about how things work for your office as you can and pass it on to your DH. I guess you could question his manhood...would that work?;)

I hope yall can come to an agreement and get that stack of papers out of your house!

I hope you do get to trigger tomorrow! Grow follies, grow!:D

I've been trying to stay out of this thread in my "off time" from TTC. But I can't, of course. I have to compulsively check it all the time. Anyway, my appt is tomorrow mornign for the u/s to check on my cysties.
It's like a drug, isn't it!!

The "cysties" made me laugh! We've named everything else a cute name, why not! I hope they're gone, though and all of those awful side effects/symptoms/whatever go away!

skb In general, you want count to be greater than or equal to 20 million/ml (at least 40 million total, i.e., per ejaculate), motility at or above 50% (they divide motility into four grades that sort of breakdown as follows: grade A, forward progression, moving rapidly; grade B, forward progression, moving slowly; grade C, moving, but no forward progress, and grade D, no movement - I believe you want either A+B to be above 50%, or at least 25% Grade A). Finally, morphology, can be measured by the more lenient WHO standards, in which case you want at least 30% normal, or by the stricter Kruger standards (the consensus is that you want to use the Kruger test) in which case you want at least 14% normal. However, it seems that some RE's offices don't worry until Kruger morphology is less than 5%. Of course, the whole picture is what you are looking at, so each parameter is more of a guideline within the whole picture. Thus, if count is excellent (for example 90 million/ml, or 250 million total or something), then a lower number in morphology isn't as much of a concern. Essentially it is all a mathematical problem. The way I like to look at it as the bare minimum is 40 million total sperm, so 20 million motile sperm (since you want at least 50% motility), and of that 14% should have good morphology, so 2.8 million. So, if you have say, 50 mil/ml count with 200 million total per ejaculate, 50% of which have normal motility, or 100 million, then even 5% morphology will give you 5 million sperm with good morphology per ejaculate, which is still higher than (almost double) the "cut-off" given the lowest possible parameters calculated per the guidelines, does that make sense?

honeygirl No good advice, but wanted to let you know I feel your pain. I believe my DH might have the record for stalling on the SA - it took about 3 months of having the "cup" from the RE's office sitting on his nightstand until he finally provided his sample - and we were close enough so that he could provide it at home. And he definitely did his fair share of complaining about having to make love to a cup. Ridiculous considering not only that at least generally it is a pleasant experience and that we have to be routinely poked and prodded for our procedures. *sigh*

ME: Well, I had my CD10 ultrasound on Saturday - the RE told me that "this is not a good month for you." Turns out I am ovulating on the right side (the side where he removed the tube). I'm not sure why my whole month should turn to crap because of that, but I guess I know what the RE meant. ;) So, back to the waiting game it is.

SKB...that happened in our case on DH's first SA (he had a second with a urologist that seemed more "normal"). But basically his morphology was 9% and RE didn't seem all that concerned with it although she did say that it was slightly low (our guidelines said it should be 15% or above). But he had something like 45 or 65 million (can't remember which right now) sperm. So all she did was send him for a second SA from a urologist to make sure he didn't have any other issues (and to see if the first slightly low count was a fluke or what).

JESSIE: To quote JESS "You can add me to the list too!" :D I got an RX for Clomid over 2 weeks ago and like JESS again I have refused to take it not only because I do O regularly but because 1) I am petrified of the side effects and 2) I wanted to try my first IUI "au natural" just in conjunction with accupunture treatments I've been getting before I jump on the Clomid bandwagon. (Plus she started me at 100 mg and being the over analytical person I am...I thought that was an awful lot since I've seen half the girls on here start at 50 mg and only move to 100 when 50 didn't work.)

HONEYGIRL: My DH had reservations about the whole SA thing too. I guess his pride was sitting on his shoulder whispering in his ear about how he was "too manly" to "shoot" in a cup. :rolleyes: And the lil' pitchfork devil was sitting on his other shoulder giving him images of a sterile all white hospital room where he'd have to do "his business". This went on until I finally had the "go ahead" to tell him he could do it at home since we live 20-25 minutes from the lab. So that was the saving grace. But for IUI...it's the hospital or NOTHING! :p So I used the "guilt" tactic on DH and described in graphic detail all the tests I had to go through while all he had to do was close his eyes and remember our honeymoon or some other such "freakfest" and do his "thang". :D LOL GOOD LUCK!

Thanks girls for your input regarding clomid. To be honest I can't remember why she put me on 100mg instead of 50mg. I asked DH last night and he thinks it was because people were having better luck with the 100mg. Hopefully I won't have to use it and we get lucky this cycle, but if I do I will have to see what happens.

honeygirl Sorry to hear DH is having reservations regarding the SA. I don't have much advice for you on how to get him to do the test. I must have been one of the lucky ones, because DH was willing to do it from the beginning, no questios asked. However, my doctor wasn't willing to do any treatments until both of us were tested.

kazata Sorry to hear this isn't your month. Bummer that you are Oing on the side where your tube was removed. Hang in there!

And to everyone else I missed...good luck and I hope this is your month! :)

Jess, thanks! I'm glad you're moving forward and taking the best shot possible. I'm all for that. I hope it works for you! Don't worry too much about multiples at this point. As everyone's said, the docs monitor you pretty closely and won't let you trigger if you have too many.

jody, thank you! I hope you get the thumbs up today to trigger. Third time's the charm!!!!!

honeygirl, thanks! Every time I've had a yeast infection (2 or 3 times) I've been oblivious to it till the doctor told me. I'm sorry your DH is giving you a hard time. I had that problem with my DH, especially after he had to repeat it (we did 4 in all). I finally lost patience with him and told him flat out that any exam which ended in a different kind of big O was not one that he had any right to complain about, and only after he had endured all the prodding and poking I had gone through would I even allow him to let out a whimper about it. He finally got it then and shut up about it.

pocahontas, I think the IUI is a good thing. I had six of them, 3 with Clomid, 2 with injectables, and 1 during a natural cycle. The reason they didn't work for me, which we didn't find out till after we had done them, was likely b/c of DH's MFI issues. I hope the first one does it for you! I never used Pre-Seed with the Clomid, but by the time I dried up (after my 2nd month on it), we were doing IUI and you don't really have to worry about CM when you're doing IUI since the IUI bypasses the vaginal canal and puts the little guys right into the uterus.

TazLuv, thank you! I'm so glad to hear that you're able to proceed. Buhbye cysts! I hope you got used to the pen. I didn't have any problems with it, but of course I always checked like five times to make sure it was set on the right dose!

looty, thanks!

Patience, thank you! I'm crossing everything that this IUI introduced those sperm right to the egg and that they're getting along nicely in there!

bumble, thanks! I'm feeling great (well, aside from m/s!). I'm one of those weirdos who always wanted twins, so I'm thrilled. A little overwhelmed sometimes when I think of how to figure out feeding, bathing, etc. two at the same time, but I'm sure we'll figure it out! I'm glad that you guys are moving forward to IVF. It's not the most enjoyable experience, but I didn't think it was all that bad. I hope it works for you.

skb, awesome, I'll be asking advice from everyone and anyone I know who has twins in their life! :) I hope your first IVF consult goes great! I'm not as good with the morphology info as I used to be. My DH had some issues there, but then we learned about his fragmentation and that became my focus. Have you asked your RE or seen an RU?

ABirney, welcome over here and good luck.

lawphil, whew, you're going to be busy! It's good that you can get everything done in one cycle, though. Good luck with it all!

LDS Angel, I'm so sorry the last cycle didn't work. I hope the increased dosage is just what you needed.

ctjo, anytime. That's good that you can get some of the preliminary stuff out of the way now when you go for your annual. The more you do now, the less later on.

jessied, thanks. I'm so glad your HSG went well. That's awesome that your DH could be there with you. You definitely have a good chance of pg afterwards - something about the tubes being way cleared out now helps. Clomid is sometimes given to "strengthen" an O even in women who are Oing on their own. I think it's the extra hormones that make the eggs stronger or something?

pocket, sending no cysties vibes to you for your next appt. I hope you enjoy the acupuncture. I usually find it so relaxing. Last night I fell asleep during my treatment!

kazata, ugh, I'm so sorry.

We had our second u/s this morning and saw and heard the most beautiful thing ever = 2 clear heartbeats. We're both so thrilled - I just don't have the words to describe it. Nausea has set in, so with that and today's u/s, I guess I'm finally feeling pregnant! I hope every single one of you experiences this amazing want-to-throw-up-while-grinning-uncontrollably feeling. My love to you all!

gymwidow That's wonderful news about the twins!!! I'm so excited for you! I hope the nausea is only temporary. Take care of yourself. Now I'm going to roll around in your baby dust. :D *Rolling, rolling, rolling*

kazata I'm sorry that your cycle is cancelled. Like you said, your whole month doesn't have to crappy because of it. You could think of it as a month that you don't have to obsess about all the FPS.

jessied1025 Glad to hear your HSG went well and that your DH was able to provide support to you during the procedure. I was sorta glad my DH couldn't be in the room with me because my radiologist was male and I would have been too weirded out by having my DH watch as another man does things in my nether region. :eek:

Pocahontas: My RE started me at 100 mg as well. Did you ask her why? In my case, I have an RE who is aggressive with treatment but maybe your RE had another idea why. Ask her why. It can’t hurt and the answer may seem logical or you may learn that maybe her method of treatment is not what you are looking for.

Pocket/Honeygirl: Yes, DH was upset with the porn they provided.

Pocket: How was the appointment today?

lawphil - I'm glad you had a good RE appointment - I hope you get some answers soon. Are those blood tests based on a day 14 Ovulation?

Jessie1025 - thanks for posting your HSG experience - I'm glad it went well. Are you able to drive yourself home after one of those, or do you definitely need a ride?

honeygirl - sorry about DH's resistance ot the SA. My thoughts were the same as pocket's (and therefore yayagirl).

kazata - sorry to hear about this cycle. I think Patience is right on with this though:
You could think of it as a month that you don't have to obsess about all the FPS.

gymwidow- CONGRATS!!!!!

I don't have much time to post and I'm sorry I haven't checked in like I should. :o

I have to say that your post really warms my heart, gymwidow. I don't "know" you very well but I'm so thrilled for you and DH. It gives me hope. Congrats on the twins and enjoy your nausea. ;)

gymwidow Wow, Twins! Congratulations and wishing you happiness and health over the next nine months! I am going to be busy but I am happy that the dr. is doing such a comprehensive review before we start doing any medications...even though I am anxious to get started! Again, best of luck with your twins!

I got some of the bloodwork back today.

Estradiol 30.4
Progesterone 40.1
FSH 5.28

There are some more results that should be trickling in over the next couple of days. They seem good so far...so no smoking gun yet.

honeygirlI am with all of you on having a difficult time with DH. Last night I explained to him about the blood work and different tests that I have to do and then we talked about his test...when he put up resistance I reminded him that it is nothing in light of what I need to do. He actually said, "what tests do you need to do". AAAGGGHHHH! He loves to push my buttons! Thankfully for him his little smirk that always makes me laugh saved him!! I think his test sounds kind of enjoyable and extremely painless when compared to all that we go through. I will be making his appointment though because if left to his own devices my dh would NEVER make that appointment. Bottom line is that at this point in the game I am not going to waste anymore time, money and/or sanity...we need to know all of the facts so we can start moving in the right direction. Good luck!

ctjo The blood tests that I just took were on CD3 (I was very lucky and my first appointment coincided with CD3) and the progesterone test is schedule for cd21 - presumably 7dpo based on day 14 ovulation. Hopefully when I go for the follicle scan on day 13 they will adjust that based on real date of ovulation (using cbefm and temping).

Very long winded at the end of the day.

Can't wait to get out of here to walk the dog and watch project runway!

lawphil Glad your RE appt went well! Quite the work-up schedule there!
Jessied Glad your HSG went well also and wasn't too bad painwise.
honeygirl Good luck getting your DH to do his part! We aren't quite at that pt yet but DH is already saying he wants me to look at the sample at work! LOL (I'm a vet tech so look at samples from dogs when doing art. insem. He thinks that makes me qualified to look at his!)
bumble Good luck with the IVF paperwork.
jodylovesscotty Hope you got your trigger today!
pocket Hope the cysties went away and you don't have to do more meds with those fun-sounding side effects!
kazata Sorry to hear this isn't your month.
gymwidow How exciting!!! Glad to hear the twins are both doing well!

Well AF still hasn't showed up... in fact the spotting is going away too. It's been 9 days since my last dose of Provera... I looked back at the previous times I took it and I started anywhere from 5-9 days after the last pill. But no cramps or anything today, just a "heavy" feeling in my lower abdomen. I also think I'm getting sick... how fun.
