I think I am going to rejoin WW. I was a member before and lost about 15 pounds. This has been a rough year so far for me emotionally and it is showing in my weight and I have to get it down. I am going on vacation, where I am going to try my best to eat fresh fruits and veggies and contain my portion sizes and not snack too much on the road), and then I am going to officially weigh-in and begin this journey.

Yay for a new thread! I am joining WW tonight and was going to come in here and join this thread. Perfect timing! I'll be back tonight with my starting stats. I'm so excited and motivated. :D

I started WW online a few weeks ago (AGAIN), and started at 195. Got to 192 on my own and joined meetings with a friend. So here are the numbers...

Start: 192
Current: 189.6 (loss of 2.4)

Does anyone else get discouraged when all of the other first-weekers lose 5-7 pounds their first week? I've been doing Weight Watchers for so long, I don't lose that much in one week. I just want that darned bookmark!

Subscribing!

I am back at goal which is good. I signed up for a bootcamp class though and they really discourage you from doing WW b/c you need more "fuel" then what WW will allow. I think I'll follow that meal plan for the next 5 weeks and when class is over I'll go back to WW. I just hope I don't gain any weight by doing this!

Checking in...........

A question for the lifetime members - how do you stabilize yourself after you have lost what you intended? I either eat way too much or way too little and can't seem to find the happy balance of eating *enough*.

Hello Kitty

Anna - I think you still have to count points or at least try to stay in that range by guestimating your points. :) DiscoDiva should be able to answer from a Points perspective.

I'm on core so maintenance is a little different, but it's basically adding to your WAP (I double my APs earned, instead). I think that's one reason I love Core so much, is because maintenance is so easy, provided I stay OP. I've always gotten enough to eat.

A personal suggestion is to never, ever stop checking your progress. Weight gain and being out of shape doesn't sneak up on you (general you). Yeah, I find it kind of stupid to take my measurements every month to find that they haven't changed, but that one month where they did change slightly (for the bad) made me realize I wasn't paying attention to my intake as much as I should be.

Ash, I kind of agree with your bootcamp program's take on WW, but that's from the perspective of an active person. Definitely make sure you're getting enough calories to fuel your workouts - I feel like that's all I say in this thread!

I've decided to join WW again. I've had great success in the past (50+ once and 30+ another time), but as things tend to happen when you're slacking off, I gained it back *sigh* I'm thinking that now that I'm on thyroid meds that I should do quite well (again!)

Is anyone using the monthly pass? How does it work? Should I get it online and then take it to my center, or just wait and get it at my center.

I got the monthly pass at the center, but I had to sign up again online to get the free e-tools and to enter my credit card info. I guess it's the same either way!

My first weigh in is tomorrow - I can tell I have lost a few pounds. I LOVE core!! It is so much better for me than the flex points. Also I have started cooking again - I haven't cooked dinner consistently since I was about 5 months pregnant. I can definitely see core working for me long-term.

I just re-joined WW Online again this morning after choosing junk food over it at the beginning of the summer. I'm below my pre-pregnancy weight, but I'd still like to lose another 8-10 pounds. I'm just not fitting into my old clothes like I used to.

I started WW 2 years, 3 months ago, and achieved Lifetime about 1 1/2 years ago. I still journal what I eat and I probably always will. That is the only way I can eat properly. Yeah, it gets old sometimes, but it's worth the results. I also weigh-in at least every 2 weeks. Combining the 2 has kept me on track since my loss.

Hi all!

I just re-joined WW after about a year and a half away. I had success in the past (lost just under 50 pounds total), but have let 15 of those creep back on...
I WI on Tuesdays.

Start 152.2
Ultimate goal 130 (which would be my lowest ever)

I signed up for the monthly pass - I did the same thing as emmjay and just went to the meeting and then signed in online. I am excited to have access to the etools, which I have not done in the past.

Katy, I'm doing Monthly Pass. I need the accountability of meetings, but I also wanted recipe builder and all that. We'll see how much I actually use the online tools, though.

As far as first weekers losing...nah, I don't have problems with that because I was one of those first weekers. ;)

I started WW 11 (almost 12) weeks ago and have lost 30 pounds so far. I started at 211.something and am now at 179ish.

Question...has anyone ever lost their membership booklet? Will they replace it? :o

Kristeen
09-21-2006, 07:22 AM
I lost my membership booklet once, it was only my 3rd time, and they did indeed replace it. :)

I'm doing WW on my own. I have all the stuff from the last time I did it, and the meetings didn't really help me. I started at 5'10" 170lbs, and I'm only down to 168 after 2 weeks. I'm a little disapointed in the weight, but I have been working out 3-4 times a week with a combo cardio and weight training, so the inches have been falling off. I know muscle weighs more, but it's so much more satisfying to have the scales reflect the dropped inches. kiwm?

I can't wait to fit into my "skinny" jeans!!!

Kimberland30
09-21-2006, 08:29 AM
Kristeen, I know what you mean about seeing the numbers. I joined Curves when I got engaged and it took me a while to see results with my weight, but the inches were coming off each month...it was amazing.

I just started WW, and am actively back at Curves again. I'm not sure how to enter that in as exercise since it doesn't really fit any of the descriptions...so if anyone knows could you please let me know? When I go I 'run in place' between machines. My heart rate stays at a constant 23/10.

Thanks!

I am not going to officially join WW again until the end of October when I go back to work (there is a convenient center on the way to work with an 8 am meeting on Fridays), but I am going to start on my own now (just got the go ahead to start working out yesterday)- I immediately lost 30 lbs after the baby, but once my appetitie came back I found myself eating a ton and using BFing as an excuse to still eat like I was pregnant.

My goal is to loose 31 lbs by next May (I hope to loose a lot more) so I can fit into my honeymoon clothes for a cruise, plus to be in shape enough to use the rock climbing wall on the ship.

But really my goal is to loose about 70-80 lbs but I think I will have to wait until after baby #2 to reach my goal since we will ttc #2 next summer.

Yay, a new thread. :) I joined WW (again) on August 12. So far, I have lost 12 pounds. Started at 179.6, and last week I weighed in at 167.5. I have about 34 more to go to get to goal weight--44 more to get to ULTIMATE goal.

I am a returning Lifetime member, I went back to traditional meetings to help lose pregnancy pounds. I thought I could do it on my own, then tried WW online--that didn't work for me. I need the discipline & accountability of the weekly meeting. So far, so good!

I am thinking of signing up for the monthly pass at this week's meeting. I already subscribe to eTools though, I wonder how that'll work for them to 'merge' both things?

First weigh in was today - down 3.4 lbs! Yay! Only about 50 more to go... :p

I have been to two different meetings and I didn't really like either of the leaders. Well, I didn't like one and the one from today was just OK. I wanted to go to today's meeting because it is one where you can bring your kids so I was hoping to meet some other people with babies (I just started SAH and I have no one to hang out with!). Maybe I'll try again next week and see if I meet anyone; otherwise I want to find a leader I like better.

Plus, I'm also doing a Biggest Loser contest with a couple of other friends. We weigh in every other Monday night. It keeps me accountable for those weekend binges!

For those with Online/ETools, I have the Palm version for my Treo, and it's great. My job keeps me on the road a lot, so when I'm not by a computer, I can access my points values and sync with my online account. It's great.

For those of your doing the on-line program, do you rely on the calculators? Or do you just use the pre-calculated points of a food item (assuming it's in the database already)?

I was just messing around yesterday and noticed that my 6oz Dannon Light n' Fit yogurt is listed as 2 points in the database...but when I put in the nutritional information into the point calculator, it said it was 1 point. Not that that point makes a world of difference...but it made me question the accuracy of other food products.

Yeah, I've noticed some discrepancies with stuff like that. Generally unless it's an actual Weight Watchers item (and the points are usually listed on the box anyway), I use the calculator instead of the tracker. I do use the tracker for random stuff like skim milk and things like that. I also try to use the online restaurant point tracker to plan ahead for eating out at chain restaurants.

I've only been doing it a short time, but I use the tracker for things that I don't have the nutritional information label handy (like FF places). I just ordered a points calculator that I can put in my purse so I'll be using that more.

This week's stats (will post on Friday's since my weigh-in is on Thursday's)

Last Week: 164 pounds

Weigh in today....I missed last week's meeting as I was out of town, so my loss for TWO weeks is 3.2 pounds. According to my scale, I weighed 167.5 last Saturday, and at the meeting today I weighed 166. So my best estimate is that I lost 1.5 this week.

Total loss is 13.6 pounds

I REALLY need to step up the exercise--I've got little water wings of fat under my arms, I have NEVER had fat there before! Ugh.

I have no idea how I'm going to manage fitting exercise into my schedule--right now my only exercise is taking the dog for long walks. I WAS swimming, but now it's too cold, and we're about to close our pool anyway. Anyone have any ideas for quick workouts involving free weights?

This is my first time doing WW officially. I gained a lot of weight (50+ pounds) during my pregnancy and I need to get this weight off as well as the 10-15 I gained while TTC. I have lost about 20 lbs. since DS was born, but obviously have quite a bit more to go. My mom and I are doing the monthly pass and signed up on Wed.

I am currently at 177 and would ultimately like to get down to 125-130. If I could just get back to around 145 I could fit into some of my clothes again, which would be nice.

I need some points help ladies...We went to our local chinese restaurant and I ordered the chinese chicken salad, no noodles. It had the following: romaine lettuce (0), mandarin oranges (1), some cashews (14 = 4pts and I had NO WHERE near 14 considering I was avoiding them), a couple of slices of zuccini and red pepper (0), and some chicken (less than 3oz, but I'm comfortable calling it at 3oz - 3 pts - and I brought home enough chicken to FILL a small rice container!!!).

So as I see it, this is about 4 points, plus a bit extra for the dressing, (which was pretty much all vinegar and orange juice). Does that sound right?

My first great discovery last night: Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches - 2pts & Yummy!

OMG, I just bought a box of 20 of them from Costco this afternoon. I had my very first one after dinner and now I'm thinking..hey...at only 2 points I can have another one! LOL

For those on the flex plan, what happens if you don't use your total points for the day? Do those "roll over" or are they lost forever? I've been taking meds to help me stop smoking (Welbutrin) and it's been affecting my eating over the last few days. Like yesterday I only had a piece of pizza for lunch and a few crackers for 'dinner'. I only used 9 points all day. The day before that I used 16. Tonight I had a pretty good dinner (hebrew hot dog on a hoagie roll with pasta salad) and used a total of 27 points all day, thanks to a stop at Dairy Queen while shopping this afternoon - the only thing I had to eat before dinner.

I know they encourage using your allotted points, but I just can't eat when I'm not hungry. And most of what I do have is a couple points here, a few points there, nothing major.

One thing I really like is the Points Calculator that I ordered from Weight Watchers. It's a little spendy ($20 including shipping), but I like it because I can take it grocery shopping with me and calculate points before I buy food.

I also got a couple boxes of snack size lunch bags. They are perfect for holding "servings" of snacks like pretzels and chips.

***********
Another great find since I love having chips with my sandwiches...Lay's Light chips, in all different flavors (including Dorito's). The best thing is that they are only 1 point per serving. Subway has them in the snack pack (1 point per bag) and they are REALLY good. I'm a food snob when it comes to my snacks, and honestly I can't tell the difference between these light versions and the original.

From what I have been told, you need to eat your points every day. They aren't supposed to roll over. That is a change from the first time I did WW. At that time, you could "bank" extra points for use later in the week. But, I do know that if you don't have enough calories (or points) for several days, your metabolism will slow and so will your weight loss. But, I totally hear you on not being hungry enough to eat all of your points sometimes. It is hard when we get conditioned to consuming lots of low point foods to stay full, and then have to occasionally switch over to the smaller high point stuff to get enough daily calories!

But, on the other hand - go you for stopping the smoking! Congratulations!

Hahaha, no problem with the higher point items, one package of Ho-Ho's will solve that! :)

I don't normally eat breakfast (well, on weekends anyway). Today for lunch I had a turkey and cheese sandwich on white/wheat bread, with Miracle Whip (5 points total). Then tonight I had a tuna steak, applesauce, 2 hush puppies and a yeast roll. Ha, I'm still under my total points by 4. But I'm sure when I sit down to watch TV with DH, I'll dig into my Skinny Cow Ice Cream sandwiches and will add 2 more points.

I really thought WW was going to be a lot harder than it is. I did South Beach back when I got engaged to jump start my 'diet', and it killed me. I've found that the only thing that really works is limiting my junk food, controlling portion size (WW has taught me that!), and exercise.

But too bad losing weight isn't as fun as gaining it.

I didn't want this to go unanswered...
I would just be careful with the dressing. Was it on the salad or on the side?
Unless I KNOW the NI of dressing, I will always ask for it on the side, and dip the tines of the fork in. A couple of times I have figured dressing was ok, only to find out later that it has a TON of points. It's really hard to know whether there is a lot of oil in there.
The rest sounds right on, though!

I made a delicious soup last night - spiced squash soup with apples. Only 3 pts a serving, and core-friendly! I am loving soup, especially this time of year. I just got a medium container of Mediterranean Pepper from Au Bon Pain and it is only ONE point. I'm in heaven. :)

I actually considered that there wasn't any dressing, just the juice from the oranges, but I could also taste the vinegar. Really though, it was a runny as water, and showed no oil in it at all (no oil slicks, if htat makes sense). But yes, I added in extra for the dressing. Thanks for going back to it.

I've only been on WW for a little over a week myself, and I added my workouts to my activity points right away. I didn't read about waiting until week 3, but I do it online so maybe I missed something.

Regarding the activity points..you really don't need to wait until week 3 to start them but the basic premise is that you get points depending on your duration and intensity of exercise. You can eat your AP's if you want (which I usually do and still lose) and they need to be eaten in the same day.

I would also suggest getting a heart rate monitor...I have a Polar model that tells me how many calories I burned. It was around $75 I believe but totally worth it. I was overestimating my AP's by using the WW calculator so it's been interesting to see what I can burn in a class at the gym, etc. after I got the HRM.

1AP=100 cal burned

Hi ladies, getting back on the WW wagon again. I have such a hard time sticking with it. I lose a couple of pounds and then I get lazy.

Can anyone recommend some 2 point desserts? I usually have light ice cream nightly :o , but it's too many points and I think I need to have it only occasionally instead. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Same here...at the very least, once a week! :) I do like kind of 'gorging' on sushi, as you get a lot of bang for your buck, points wise. If you like sashimi at all, the points are so low it's almost laughable! 3 pieces of sashimi is ONE POINT. That and a few sushi rolls plus miso soup...I just feel REALLY satisfied.

Seb's Kitty - That is a GREAT website! Thanks for posting it. I am always looking for more interesting healthy recipes, these sound even better than some of my Cooking Light recipes.

well, I'm mid-way through my first week and wham-o, PMS! Man, good thing I did an intense work out today of the fact that I've been nibbling all day surely would have caught up with me. I guess it also didn't hurt that I had both a salad for lunch and for dinner. But tell me, how do you guys deal with the PMS? It's not just the chocolate, it's the fact that I felt the need to graze all day long!

There are a bunch of pre-packaged WW desserts that I really like. I prefer the single-serving type dessert, because I have issues with portion control...

I think the cookies and cream bars (2 points) are amazing. The fudge bars are really good, and really big and they are only 1 point.
My DH (not such a chocolate fan) likes the fruit and yogurt bars by WW - there are big ones for 2 points and little ones for 1 point.

Skinny Cows are delicious, too. Most of the flavors are 2 points, but a couple (chocolate peanut butter and strawberry shortcake) are three.

I also like the Starbucks bars. The Mocha flavor are 2 points.

No Pudge makes some desserts, too, but I don't really like most of the treats made with "fake" sugar.

You could also do pudding cups or jello cups. Sugar free jello is zero points.

And of course, there's always fruit...

Hope that helps!

Speaking of No Pudge - the No Pudge brownies (http://www.nopudge.com/) are delicious. I think they sell this at Trader Joe's? I usually just buy it at the local supermarket, as they have an extensive health food section. The brownies are only 2 points a piece when made with nonfat yogurt (if you take the 8 x 8 pan of brownies and cut it into 12 servings). I LOVE the chocolate mint ones.

If I have the points to spare, I'll take a No Pudge brownie, and top it with a Weight Watchers giant chocolate sundae cup (2 points). Total for everything is 4 points, and it's like a chocolate brownie sundae. (Katy, this is REALLY good for bouts of PMS too! :) )

I don't really like 'Asian' cuisine, so that is probably a big part of it. ;)

PMS - I eat. A lot. I used to feel like I wanted to just stuff tons of whatever in my face, but I've come to realize that I'm really and truly hungry during TOM. So, I've been trying to fuel up on healthier stuff, and it seems to work. So, I wouldn't be afraid of using your WAP and AP during this time (but I'm a big proponent of eating them anyway).

I don't care for sushi either. With those point values, I wish I did! I've tried everything from Wegman's to the 75-bucks-a-plate stuff, and it just isn't my thing.

As far as PMS, being on a tri-monthly cycle is what saves me. :o Four bouts of PMS a year are much more managable! But I plan ahead and make sure to avoid the grocery store during that time; if I don't stockpile junk, I get too lazy to run out for it.

Joining Again…

I’ve been so bad over the past couple of months and gained back 6 of the 17 pounds I lost since May. I really need to get back on track. Here are my stats:

Week 21 WI

Start: 185
Last Week:
Now: 173.6
This week's loss:
Total lost: -11.4
10% Goal: 166
Goal: 145

I actually met with a nutritionist back in August who gave me some great tips. I’m trying to incorporate her advice with doing WW on my own. Basically, concentrating on supplementing my diet with more fruit, veggies, and dairy, watching my portion sizes at meals, and limiting my alcohol consumption.

Has anyone had the Weight Watchers yogurt? I had a peach one with breakfast this morning and it was delicious! I can’t believe it’s only 1 point.

I have a kinda silly question....

I am drinking those little 5oz cans of V-8 juice. They are 0 points. Well earlier I was really thirsty so I drank two of them, thinking that since they are 0 points it really doesn't matter how much you consume. Then I got to thinking.... so I doubled the fiber, calories and fat and plugged the double numbers into the pointsfinder and now it says 1 point.

So if I drink more than one can in a day should I count it as 1 point? If I have four should I count it as 2 points? I've been drinking several in a day but counting them all as 0. :(

LIZNKEITH

Jen,
Yup, they would be one point. I run in to the same problem with my bread. Technically it's 0 points for a slice, but if I have 2 slices it's a point. So, I just simplify everything by counting each serving as a half point.

WestieMomma / Thanks for the info on activity points... I like the way you say it works but I found a website (www.3fatchicks.com (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=72156))that said:
Exercise points can then be added to your daily points target and used as food points. You cannot carry them over until the following week. Each week begins as a clean slate and you have to build up and use those exercise points each week.

You don’t have to use your exercise points if you don’t want to but some people find that eating their exercise points does help with their weight loss.

You may earn up to 28 exercise points per week.

It seems that WWs has changed their program over the years so it's hard to tell what's new and what's old information. Either way, I know I should start exercising soon - points or no points :)

BTW, the 3fatchicks website has a lot of good information & support about diet/exercise & Weight Watchers in particular.

chefker - I like the sundae idea, because I don't like No Pudge brownies on their own.

I'm feeling so hungry these past couple of days! I don't know what it is. I always feel ravenous. Maybe it's stress, but I really do feel hungry! I think that's what I don't like about weight watchers, or any diet. I feel deprived, so it's hard to stick with it.

Katy,
I do WW on my own. I bought my books and my slide on Ebay. I also refer to Dottie's website as well as Diet Facts (http://www.dietfacts.com/) if I plan on going out to eat. As far as motivation and accountability go, I try to use threads like this.

Hello Kitty
09-26-2006, 12:55 PM
I've always done WW on my own. There's a core food list (http://www.geocities.com/core_food/index.htm) online, which I refer back to.

I calculate points by just doing the math, which I can do pretty quickly in my head now. (I rarely eat anything unless the nutrition info and ingredient list is in front of me, but that was an obsession before I started WW ;))

http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/images/weight-watchers-points-form.gif

As far as motivation, well, I'm accountable to myself for weekly weigh ins and periodic measure-ins. I also take progress pics periodically, regardless of how I feel I'm doing. That way, there's no big surprise about pounds sneaking back on. If I'm not doing so well, I'll make a more concerted effort to count my WAP and AP.

Hmm... I eat a turkey sandwich almost every day, and I find it is quite points friendly
2 slices white/wheat or other low-point bread = 1
2 oz. lunch meat (I always weigh it) = 2
.5 oz cheese = 1
either mustard = 0, honey mustard = .5 or light mayo =1
So the total sandwich is between 4-5 points.

Most of the low-fat deli meat is about a point/an ounce. Is that different than what your tracker is telling you?

Kimberland30
09-26-2006, 05:26 PM
I just bought some Foster Farms roasted turkey lunchmeat from Costco and I think it's a point or two per slice. The slices are REALLY big and one (cut in half and stacked on eachother) is plenty for a sandwich. Add cheese, mayo and 2 slices of bread and it was 5 points total. If you get the Lays Light chips (I love me some chips), it's 1 point per serving.

I was really disappointed last week. I lost 1.8 pounds, which is good...but I was down on myself because I so didn't deserve it. I didn't count points, track or anything. No exercise... I was just terrible. I had wanted to bust 180, too, and I failed that goal because I didn't keep myself accountable. I was at 181.

At the moment, I am below 180. It isn't official until Saturday, though. I think I'm around 178ish. I started WW at 211.8 back in July and have lost over 30 pounds.

My ultimate goal is still 130 with my ultimate reward being that we are going to start TTC #2 when I hit 140. I don't know that we'll be successful right away which is why I'm not waiting until 130. Still, though, only 38ish pounds to go! Only 18ish to go until the weight my OB said she'd like to see me at or below when I get pg again. 28ish to go until the weight my endo said...

I started WW meetings last night. First time I've done meetings, really. I did WW from Feb 2004 - August 2005, when Katrina hit and I quit. (My fault. I had no reason to quit, I just did.) And then I got married (another lame excuse) and gained the entire ~30 lbs I lost, plus one pound.

Sooooo, in advance of
1. A trip to Mexico in Nov for a friend's wedding (and our anniversary)
2. My best friend's wedding in March
3. TTC next summer,

I put in "ham and cheese sandwich" and it gave me 9 points. I thought that seemed high, and a few people said to put in the ingredients separately, so I got:

2 slices whole wheat bread = 2
1 slice cooked lean ham = 2
1 ounce low-fat Swiss = 2

I definitely need to get a scale! I can handle measuring liquid weights (like a cup of soup) but this ounce thing is really hard to eyeball, especially because the cut of meat determines how large the slice is.

Katy, what about those Smirnoff fruit spritzers? Google gives me 2.5 points for one of their "Ice" coolers.

So going into to week 2 of bootcamp I am up 3 lbs from goal. I know in the long run I will shed the lbs but tomorrow is my monthly weigh in for maintenance. I think the gain is related to the changed in diet. I spoke with the bootcamp director last night and she is all for WW just not while you are in her program since you need more fuel for your body than WW will allow. It is so frustrated to have worked so hard since feb to get rid of the lbs and then put on 3 in one week. Esp. since I never used to exercise at all and now I am doing some hardcore stuff 3 X's a week - I should be losing weight not gaining it!

So I guess I'm the only one who manually calculates points? LOL. I guess after doing it for a year, it's become second nature. The formula's not as scary as it looks, though I did spend a couple of months thinking the fat grams were divided by 5 for some reason  and shortchanged myself a bunch of points!

I love having a food scale. It's just a spring scale from Target. I'd like to replace it with a prettier scale, but I love having a non-digital scale goes up to only 1 lb - very easy to measure out servings of meat and pasta. Even with core foods, I eat one measured serving, and then go from there.

I had my first weigh in last night. Not so good! :( I guess I was expecting something closer to the 6lb lose I had the first week when I did WW years ago. My leader made a point that made sense to me. A lot of people before doing WW aren't really watching their diet at all so that first week they lose a lot of water weight and such. Well I've already been dieting. I've cut out soda all togeather and am already drinking close to 100 ounces of water each day. So I'm not going to get the big jump start that a lot of other people do. :(

My only worry is tomorrow DH & I leave for a weekend getaway to Chicago - Anyone have tips for how to eat when out of town?

I didn't have a chance to look at scales yesterday. I did see the one that WW has at the meetings. It was $40.00. When reading the box it said that it also gives you points values but I didn't actually talk to anyone about the exact features or how it works. My goal this weekend will be to find a good scale and not go out to eat at The Melting Pot! :D

Hi Jen - Congrats on your loss this week!

About scales... I just purchased a Salter scale at the Williams-Sonoma outlet ($18 - outlet price). I really like it b/c it has a large pan, it looks good on my counter and the price was right. I looked online but WS doesn't sell the same model on their website anymore and the ones they do have cost a lot more than $18! ;) I found the same scale on EBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Salter-074-Chrome-High-Capacity-Kitchen-Scale-w-Tray_W0QQitemZ160033403782QQihZ006QQcategoryZ50419 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) for a BIN Price of $19. Just wanted to pass along the review :)

I lost 1.2 this week, so that's 4.6 lbs down in 2 weeks. Not bad, although I should have done better this week - I didn't really track my non-core points. I didn't go crazy or anything, but I'm sure I went over 35. I'll have to be more diligent this week.

I still love the core plan!

This might not be news to you veterans, but last night I put together a little system for snacks. I set aside a bunch of sandwich baggies, then cut post-it notes into long strips. I measured out dry snacks (popcorn, cereal, etc.) and put the serving size on the post-it, then closed it in the bag with the snacks. Now when I finish them and have to restock, I can just rinse and re-use the bags, and also reuse the labels.

so I totally thought I was F'ed last night because I went out to dinner at a Burmese restautant and then had 3 beers!!! GAH! I never even drink beer - what was I thinking? But it turned out to be OK because thank god I went running that morning which helped a lot. The last time I did WW we didn't have those extra 35 pts.

Kerrie, that sucks! :( I hope it feels better quickly. Anything else you can do to burn off a few calories so you don't lose ground? Maybe arm weights?

An upper body workout is definitely something I need to do anyway, bad foot notwithstanding! Hoping to pick up some heavier free weights (10 lbs or so) in my travels today. I have 1, 2 & 6 lb. weights at home, but they don't feel like they're 'doing' anything for my arm muscles.

Scary, but I finally realized that if I don't do something NOW to exercise my arms, I will inherit my grandmother's water wings and arm flab. Yikes! And to think, my arms used to be so toned. :(

Week 22 WI

Start: 185
Last Week: 173.6
Now: 170.0
This week's loss: -3.6
Total lost: -15.0
10% Goal: 166
Goal: 145 (will re-evaluate at that point)

I'm thrilled! I feel so motivated and have been eating so healthy that I feel full all day long. I have a really good feeling about this!

crafty,
I can completely relate. DH, DD, and I all leave a week from today for Vegas: the land of alcohol and endless buffet's. I'm afraid...very afraid. Fortunately, our timeshare has a full kitchen, so I plan to do most of our meals in. Still, can I really walk past a crepe at Paris? Probably not. ;)

Liz, if you are walking a lot on your trip, don't pass up that crepe! Last spring, when I was in Paris (France), I actually had nutella crepes 3 + x a day and LOST over 3 pounds! How? I literally walked my hiney off for 4 days and earned those crepes!

Have fun on your trip. Vegas is one of my all-time favorite places! Please have a crepe for me while you are there!

Congrats Katy! What a way to kick off WW. :)

So, DH and I are going away for our anniversary to the Red Lion Inn (http://www.redlioninn.com)next week, in the Berkshires. We get a complimentary breakfast and I think one free lunch for both of us. (DH had won this package at a charity auction). Taking a look at the menus on their website, I can see that I am DOOMED. Doomed! Gosh, I want to be good about sticking to points, but there's a little devil on my shoulder saying "Screw it....this is a nice mini vacation, live it up!"

Gah. So, so tempting to throw caution to the wind *just for two days*. But I'll be kicking myself if it results in a weight gain, ya know?

Anna,
You’re right…at least I usually walk a lot in Vegas. Also, our timeshare has a fitness center, so maybe I can get my butt down there a couple of times that week. Mmmmm…a nutella crepe. Yum! When we were in Paris, France 2 years ago I had a Banana, Nutella, & Grand Marnier crepe that was to die for. I seriously dream about it. LOL! Okay, I’ll have 1 for you, too but that definitely means I have to get my butt on the elliptical machine.

Chefker,
Don't be afraid to indlge a bit. That's why there are flex points. What day do you WI? If it's far enough out, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Liz, Vegas is a great place to do a lot of walking, since most of the touristy stuff is all in one place. I bet you'll end up with a lot more activity points than you thought. If you have a pedometer, why not wear it just to see what it adds up to?

Congrats on the big loss, Katy!

Kerrie, I allow myself one indulgent thing per day. I'm good for two meals, then I have a little something extra for my sweet tooth. You can do it without totally blowing your week, just plan accordingly. :)

That's not a bad idea. Especially since we'll ahve the baby with us for most of the week, I'm sure we'll be strolling her up and down The Strip. I think my friend has a Pedometer I can borrow. Thanks for the tip!

I had only used 2 of my weekly points until last night...then I blew half of them at once! I really need to start looking things up before I eat them, rather than checking once the food is already gone. Pizza is so not worth it!

I keep telling myself there's a learning curve to memorizing all the points values and serving sizes...it'll be nice when I can get to a point where everything I eat is in the system, and I don't have to do "add new food" at every single meal.

Mmmm, pizza.... That's OK to blow half of your points at once! That's what they're there for. I use mine for wine and full-fat cheese. Except for feta, I can't deal with fat free cheese - disgusting.

Actually I think I'm going to make pizza tonight. I have some brown rice crusts and I'll use spinach and feta for the topping - that will be mostly core except for the crust. I guess there's no such thing as core pepperoni.

Eventually you will get to know the point values all of the foods you eat regularly - it makes things a lot easier!

You all might know this, but for an alternative to microwave popcorn you can buy a container of regular popcorn (like for a hot-air popper) and pour some into the bottom of a brown paper lunchbag. Just enough to cover the bottom completely. Then fold down the sides of the top (leave an air hole in the middle), turn on it's side, and microwave for 2 mins. You get a lunchbag full of popcorn and there aren't any weird chemical flavorings. Plus it's much cheaper. AND it's only 1 point for 3 cups of popped corn.

Katy

Yay for everyone and their losses!! :D

GB - I hear you on the points thing. I've done this before and for the life of me, I can't remember how I ever ate out *shaking head* I learned last night that it's *way* less points to eat 1 cheese enchilada, 1 chicken taco, and a couple bites of rice and beans with a few chips (all counted as much larger serving sizes) than to eat a tostada. Who knew! And who eats the whole damn tostada, shell and all?

Emmjay - thanks for that popcorn tip! I was trying to remember how it went, since I knew there was a way. That sounds *much* better than spending a small fortune on those 100 calorie packs!

-I weigh less now than I did at my wedding (June 17, 2003)
-I busted 180
And the big one
-I have fewer than 50 pounds to my ultimate goal.

Original weight: 211.8
Last week's weight: 181
This week's weight: 179.2
Week's loss: 1.8 pounds
Total Weight Loss: 32.6
Ultimate goal: 130 (though we may start TTC at 140)
Pounds to 130: 49.2!

Congratulations!! :D Those are all great milestones to have reached!

I'm starting about where you did (2 months pp), and you now are right around my "normal" weight, so you are inspiring me!

I had my spinach-feta pizza for dinner - I looked at my pizza crust ingredients and it is made entirely of whole grain brown rice and some potatoes. Both of those are core foods, and I only had one serving, so I didn't have to count it - just the mozzarella cheese. DH loved it too.

I joined WW online today - they have a 1 week free trial, so I thought I'd give it a shot. The recipe builder is GREAT! No more guessing, just enter the ingredients and servings and it gives you the points.

Since I joined online, I'm changing WI to Sundays and... I read my scale wrong, SW is 137, not 136 :o Now if I can keep up the exercise....

Congrats to everyone on your losses! :D

Well...this weekend could have been better as far as my eating was concerned. I met some friends for a get together Sat. afternoon. I had a beer, chips and salsa, and fajitas. :( It was mostly due to stress because I had basically been up since 4am with the baby and he was boycotting naps. We were both tired and cranky and DH had to go in to work for a while so he couldn't relieve me. So...I did some stress eating. And today I didn't eat real meals. I just snacked all day. I stayed within my points, but I didn't eat enough fruits and veggies at all. And the nice fall weather we were having is gone and we are back in the 90s again, which makes it hard to do my walking with the baby. Ugh. Sorry to be such a downer but I needed to get it off my chest so I can start fresh tomorrow.

Ugh. I had a *horrible* day on Saturday... I wrote it all down, which is good, but it was totally embarassing. We had friends from out of town visiting - beer, pizza, a cheeseburger...
The *only* good thing is that I went to the gym, and I was OP the rest of the week. So we'll see if I can still pull off a loss tomorrow.
So I know how you feel, UTChick.

Sonofa…

Is it seriously possible to gain 3 pounds in 1 day? I confess, I’m a slave to the scale. I don’t like surprises. Sunday morning, I hopped on and I was down another .4 since Friday. Sunday afternoon I headed over to my parents. Mom had prepared an early birthday dinner for me since I’ll be in Vegas for my birthday Saturday. Yeah, I didn’t do so well, but not terrible bad either. When I got on the scale this morning, I was up 3.0 pounds since yesterday morning. WTF?! I’m praying it’s all water weight and I can flush it out with water these next couple of days. I can’t believe I did this!

lml,
Wow!! Way to go!! You are such an inspiration.

Today was my first weigh in, I lost 4 pounds! :D I'm sure it isn't exact since I'm weighing at home, but I'm still pretty happy.

I have the opposite issue of you guys: I have no problems staying OP on the weekends, it's the work week that kills me. On weekends I'm running all over, busy and distracted. The work days just drag by with me staring at my computer, desperate for snacks all the time. I keep telling myself it's all psychosomatic, but I really do feel hungrier at work, and if I don't snack I get light-headed and nauseated.

Weight Stats for this week:

Start: 164 pounds
Last Week: 162
Now: 159.5
This week's loss: 2.5
Total lost: 4.5
10% Goal: 148

Was doing good until the weekend. I'll have to figure out my points (relying on memory of what I ate/drank). Not good. Between beer, pizza and junk food, I could have very well reached my total points for the week in just 2 days. Oh well, I deserved it. I plan on going to the gym 4 times this week so that should help. :)

Does anyone have this....

2006 POINTS® Pedometer
Our new POINTS Pedometer is the only one available that will actually calculate the Activity POINTS values you earn as you walk! Clip it to your belt or waistband and track your walking progress—steps walked, total miles, and time walked—on the Pedometer’s easy-to-read LCD display. The Pedometer has two modes, All Day and Active, to track and calculate Activity POINTS values earned from both everyday steps and fitness walks.

$23.95 each

I wonder if it's worth it. I just bought the WW points calculator and with shipping it was about $20. I wear a normal pedometer every day and walk approx. 2-3 miles each day, which I count as 2 AP. I wonder if I'm miscalculating it, but I don't know if I want to spend over $25 for this when a cheapo one is only $3.

It's in my gym bag right now, but I bought it at Walmart for about $3, and I'm sure it's pretty accurate. I had a more expensive one then my DH wanted one, so I picked him up the Walmart one. I used both of them to see if they matched, and they were pretty close. So I took the "cheap" one and gave him the other one since he walks much more than I do...and he lost it soon after.

Yes, they are frozen - I got them at Wild Oats, which is like a Whole Foods. I just looked and there aren't any Wild Oats stores in PA (that's where you are, right?) but the brand of the crusts is Nature's Highlights. If you can find them they are 4 pts for half of the crust.

They don't taste like real pizza crust on their own but with all of the toppings they were pretty good.

Nursing, WW, and BM Supply? - I know us nursing moms get 10 extra points. Have people found that their supply does suffer if they don't use the extra points? I was a little discouraged to read that nursing moms should only loose 1 lb per week instead of 1-2 like non-nursing moms can.
I would like to loose weight faster if possible, but I don't want my supply to drop. I am just wondering if it really does happen.
(Who would have have thought I would be complaining about eating extra points!)

I don’t think your supply will suffer, but you will probably be depriving yourself nutritionally and may go in to starvation mode. Your body will produce milk regardless (it’s more hydration based than nutrition based), but it will be pulling the nutrients from your body.

My reason for starting again (I was part of the other WW thread way back) is because I had a baby over the summer and need to lose another 15 lbs of baby weight and then some. Although it is partially because of the holidays - BIL is getting married at Thanksgiving and I want to look halfway decent since I'll be in some of the wedding pictures.

Is this targeted more to the west coast, does anyone know?

Well, I have always thought so, and I'm on the east coast. :)

There are so many chain restaurants I go to, that DON'T list their nutritional info, even. At least if that is available online, you could plan ahead and calculate points by looking things up on the restaurant's website. Ruby Tuesday's doesn't have their info listed, and neither does the 99 restaurant (those are all over the east coast near me, not sure if they're near you, greenbunny).

A lady at my last meeting LOVES the 99, and wanted to calculate points before going there. So she emailed customer service at the 99's website to request the info; she said they emailed her the info, but it was a 10 page PDF file, and a royal pain to page through it all to find out what she needed. In the end, she said there was only ONE thing on the menu that was remotely points-friendly.

Maybe THAT is why certain restaurants don't post their info!

PeanutButter

Do you use the restaurant guide at DWLZ.com?
They are all chain restaurants, of course, but there are a lot of them.

I think restaurants don't post their info (a) because the process isn't so standardized that the same amount goes into a recipe everytime they make it and (b) they don't want to scare people away!

OK...now I'm confused. I checked the DWLZ.com restaurant guide just to check points on what I ate for lunch today (a shrimp taco from Baja Fresh). On WW it's listed as 4 points...on DWLZ it's listed as 6. I wonder which one's more accurate?

I think you never know, unfortunately. I think the restaurants give out conflicting information, and they change their formulas from time-to-time.

You could split the difference and call it 5?

I would go with the higher number, but then I always estimate really high to be safe.

Agreed. But if you are really hungry, you could go for the lower number and eat more! :)

I always think that those things must not be too accurate. I know that the chefs probably aren't a precise as they should be. A little more butter here or salad dressing here could make a huge difference.

I am starving this afternoon. I had a Lean Cusine for lunch that is NOT lasting. The worst part about it is we have donuts in the other room left over from a meeting this morning. Oh, how I want to go shove one of those down. HELP!!!!!

Start: 236.6
Last Week: 236.4
Now: 232.4
This week's loss: -4
Total lost: -4.2
10% Goal: -23 (213)
Ultimate Goal: 145

I can't belive that I lost this week. I was trying so hard but I did have a few uh-oh's. In fact when I got on the scale I said to the lady "I gained, didn't I?". So I'm super excited! :D

WOW, congrats! There is nothing better than "thinking" you've gained when you actually lost...and a whoppin 4 pounds!

I'm about to go to the gym now and do my weigh-in. Gaw, so NOT looking forward to it. But on the bright side, I did fit into my size 8 pants that I haven't been able to wear for a while (it has a partial elastic waist, but still). I haven't popped the button yet or turned blue, so that's a good thing.

Guess I better hop along and get this over with. :(

Thanks! Good Luck at your weigh in today.
Yay for fitting into those size 8 pants. That's got to feel great! :D

I've been on and off WW for the past 3 years, but I'm really trying to recommit this fall and move forward in losing weight.

Restaurants
My favorite nutritional site is Diet Facts (http://www.dietfacts.com/)
Click on Restaurants, you'll find a ton of them listed. I like their site because it seems to have a larger selection of restaurants and their nurtritional info in more complete for each menu item.

I'm doing very poorly so far this week. I totally expect to see a gain tomorrow. :(

Ugh. I just got back from the gym (only my second time going this whole week...bad!).

Here's my stats...

Start: 164 pounds
Last Week: 159.5
Now: 160
This week's loss: +.5
Total lost: 4.0
10% Goal: 148
Ultimate Goal: 125

So I guess that's not too bad considering I went to the gym on Monday and didn't really push all that hard. I was sick on Tuesday and just went back to work out today.

I stayed within my WW points, but used all but 9 of my "freebie" points. For me that's pretty bad considering that the first couple weeks I had problems meeting my 22 point daily limit.

I've also been a little lax in documenting my portions and all ingredients. I'll be more diligent from now on so that I can get a more accurate count.

But it's another week and I'm not that upset about not losing anything...and gaining half a pound is hardly anything to get worked up about.

Can anyone help me with points for Boar's Head Lemon Pepper Roasted Chicken deli meat? It's apparently a brand-new flavor. DWLZ doesn't have it, and even the official Boar's Head site only lists it as new, with no nutritional info yet.

PeanutButter
10-05-2006, 01:16 PM
I would assume that it would be the same as other roasted chicken from Boar's Head. It doesn't seem that the lemon or the pepper would add any additional points! :)

Most low-fat or fat-free deli meat is about the same, I think, especially if you measure by weight.

Weigh In today (#2) - down 1.8 for a total of 6 pounds (in two weeks!!!) :D

I have a box of those WW orange smoothie packets if anyone wants to take them off my hands. They just didn't work for me. PM me if you're interested.

Great WI, Katy. :)

I am down .6 this week.

My mom, however, was down 3.2 for a total of 5lbs in 2 weeks. We went to a meeting tonight and talked to the leader about how to get all of our points in. I realized that this week I only had two days when I got in all my points and I am not getting in enough oils. That and drinking more water are my goals for this week. Hoping for a better loss next week.

Did you find them as disgusting as I did? OMG awful awful awful!!!!I wasn't going to say that, but yes. I referred to it as orange flavored ass in my LJ. Gross (but maybe it's just me)

I realized that this week I only had two days when I got in all my points and I am not getting in enough oils. You know, I don't stress about this one. I eat peanut butter (natural, no sugar added), real butter, olive oil and avocado, all healthy, good for you, oils (and full fat shredded cheese because I'm not a fan of that lowfat cheese stuff). I figure as long as I'm not going overboard in excess or overboard in lack, then I'm fine. And don't forget that almonds, fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, tuna) and fish oil tablets all also count for good oils in the nutrition world.

Sue, I wouldn't worry too much about your little binge, that's what the flex points are for (well, not FOR, but you know what I mean). I went a bit crazy while baking some brownies on Tuesday (never should have even bothered to bake them for the meeting), and still lost without excercising this week. And they tell us, start anew right then and there, at the next meal. Don't wait until tomorrow or next week to start over.

Thanks, Katy. You're better than I. None of the brownies would have made it to the meeting!

That's what I get for having a big breakfast :) I wasn't hungry for lunch, but around 3:30 the craving started kicking in. I exercised when I got home and had a small dinner. I usually let myself have some "bad" stuff once in a while, just so I don't have the binges. But my friend is coming this weeked, so I blame it on that!

OK, I need to get back my motivation!! I was doing so well. I lost a total of 10 lbs and then SPLAT...I stopped attending meetings & have been eating too much junk.

I am determined to get back on track!! I haven't attended a meeting in over a month, but I am going on Wednesday!!

I know we have flex points so that we can splurge or eat out without driving ourselves crazy, but um...I've already used 12 of mine and I just weighed in Thursday. I really, really need to get better about making smart choices while eating out. My other challenge is that we often eat dinner pretty late and I'm usually just starving by then - and in the case of this past week, since we were eating our dinners out, I tried to save more than half of my points just for the unknown dinner.

Julie, why wait until Wednesday? Why not weigh in tomorrow?

Katy, could you have a small snack before your late dinner in order to not be so ravenous? If you are eating out a lot, do you at least know in advance where you are going? We are big pre-planners and always decide where we are headed before we leave the house. So, I go online, find the menu if I can, and decide in advance what I should order. Not to say I don't deviate sometimes, but at least I am armed with some information before I reach the restaurant.

I cannot BELIEVE my weigh in results today...I lost 3.2 pounds! This is after using nearly ALL my Flex points--we went away for our anniversary, and believe me, I ate some REALLY indulgent foods. Nothing overly BAD I suppose, but still....

So I've lost a total of 17.6 pounds since joining on 8/12, and today I made my 10% goal. :D

Not to say I don't deviate sometimes, but at least I am armed with some information before I reach the restaurant.I usually do just that with the snack (fruit, cheese or popcorn). As for preplanning, I do that when we can, but for example, twice this week we were out before concerts - so that could mean anything from sushi to pizza to In-N-Out to nasty food at the location (all depending on time, traffic, location, etc.). Two other times this week I had Jr League functions where I had NO CLUE what dinner would be. And yet another time it was a record release party and again, no clue what would be served (I stuck to the roasted veggies and used some flex points for some yummy cheese). And tonight it's a wedding, so I'll go low points all day and save the bulk for the evening (like I usually do when I know we're eating out). The sad thing, since we rarely go to chain restaurants, it's even more challenging still - especially since a salad isn't always the best option *sigh* But I'm learning.

Katy - The meeting I usually attend nearby our house is on Wednesday. And with my crazy work schedule, it's the only day that works.Julie, just remember, you can weigh in anywhere, not just at the one location. So don't let that hold you back if it will be what you need to feel accountable and get back on track.

And Yay Kerrie!!! I guess your body needed to know that it could go over a bit. Good for you!!! :D

Katy, I'm right there with you.

My WI was on Thursday too. So yesterday morning I had a big ol bagel with cream cheese, a BLT and fries and super sweet tea for lunch, no dinner, but went out and had a few Rum and Cokes and a couple of beers. Today I had to work for a few hours and I stopped at Taco Bell and had 3 soft taco supremes. I just got home and had half of a Hershey bar.

Looks like I'll be having ice chips for the rest of the week. LOL! :D

We went out last night and I'm totally guessing at all my points values! When we eat out, it's usually at a local chain (meaning there's three or four locations, all within 20 miles) and no nutritional info to be found. I had porcini ravioli and just put in cheese ravioli and whatever came up for "porcini mushrooms". Not the best but I don't want to drive myself insane.

I had no nutritional info on Tazo tea, so I e-mailed them and got back a form letter about how their natural flavorings are proprietary and if I'm concerned about ingredients, to just not drink that flavor. WTF? What if people have allergies or interaction problems? Jerks. I wrote back "I'm not trying to steal your recipe, I just want calories and fat grams. Is that a reasonable request?"

Today was WI and I lost 3 lbs.! I was a little nervous since I had negative flex points. Friday was a bad, bad day! But I got back on track Saturday and I exercised more than usual this week.

I think I need to get a digital scale. Right now we have one with a dial, but everytime I mention it my husband has a fit  I also want to pick up a food scale, he doesn't have any problem with that!

WI today, I only lost half a pound. :( I'm a little nervous: it's only my second weigh in, so I was expecting another big loss. I had 11.5 flex points left and I've been walking 2 miles a day. I don't think I can eat more unless I just cram garbage down my throat, and I don't think I can reasonably fit more exercise into a day. I'd like to get on the elliptical for a more brisk workout, but I'm still in PT for my knee and I don't think I can handle that yet.

Any suggestions to up the loss this week?

greenbunny Are you eating your activity points? If not, you might need to in order to keep your metabolism up since 2 miles a day is quite a bit of exercise.

Just remembered- if you're going to meetings, you might not be able to eat your APs yet.

Greenbunny do you mind me asking how much you have to lose? What was your first week loss? If you lost aLOT your first week then your second week can be low because your body is adjusting to a large loss. Expect no more than an average of 2lbs. Are you getting enough veggies? WATER, fiber? Sorry to ask so many questions just trying to get to the bottom of it all! :) I am sure you are okay. Its a lot to learn.

greenbunny

I have 21 total pounds from start to GW. My first week's loss was 4 pounds. I'm eating a fair amount of veggies (I could probably do a bit better, but I've been doing pretty well) but I have been eating a ton of fruit and a lot of fiber--whole wheat wraps and flax meal in my yogurt.

Maybe it's just a letdown since the first weigh in went so well? Kick me if I'm being overly impatient. :)

6 month UPDATE

Starting weight = 163
Current = 141
Goal = 135

I have not technically made my goal in 6 months but you should see my measurements. That is why I am very avid about people taking measurements and not necesssarily paying attention to the scale. I have gone from a 12 to a 6 and put on a LOT of muscle through exercise. I STILL WILL make goal but I could care less if I lose .4 or 1.7 a LOSS IS A LOSS to me. I have definitely learned patience!!!

Starting measurements
Waist – 31
BB (love handles)– 35.5
Hips – 43.5
Thigh (L) - 25

Current Measurements
Waist – 28.5 Loss = 2.5
BB – 32.5 Loss = 3
Hips – 39 Loss =4.5
Thigh (L) - 25 Loss=2

Total inches lost=12

Greenbunny -

My first week's loss was 4 pounds.

You just answered your own question. You do not have a lot to lose and having sucha large loss to begin with is literally a shock to the system and your body, organs, systems are adjusting it is not healthy loss to continue to lose such large amounts all at once. Be happy with a 2 week total of 4.5!!!
