I was going to start WW today but I called off work sick and the only thing I could muster to make myself for breakfast was pie. It was all I could do to press the button to put whip cream on it. I even ate it straight out of the tin. I'm awful. Tomorrow. Yes, definitely tomorrow.

For those struggling with after-Thanksgiving guilt , here's something someone posted on the WW boards that really hit home for me.

"Ladies... it's a holiDAY, not a holiWEEKEND , or a holiMONTH".

In a nutshell, this is a distance run, not a sprint, and falling down does not take us out of the game... we're only out of it if we stay down.

Might I suggest you TOSS out the rest of the pie (well, maybe let your husband have one last slice).

Anyone heard anything about the changes that'll come on December 10th? I read something about changing point ranges and changing Core snacks, but the wait is killing me!

my center was one of the "test" groups (way before I got there). I know whatever it was/is, they loved it. So they're pretty excited that it's coming back.

Thanks for the info!

I went to my meeting today but no one was there, because it snowed yesterday. So I missed my star. On the up side, I'm just 0.7 away from my 10%!

I've been reading that they're not following the age-goal weight chart to declare goal anymore, so that means I'm already "at goal" (even if I'm still 15 lbs away from the <25 range). Still, I think I will pick a goal just a couple lbs away and keep losing through the six-week maintenance period. My personal goal is still quite far away, but it'll be nice to stop paying for meetings.

Post-Thanksgiving WI was this morning and I lost -4.5 lbs.! Total lost since April 12: 69.6 lbs. :)

The last two weeks I had small gains, and both of those weeks I was sick....the doctor was adjusting my anti-inflammatory meds for my arthritis (god, that makes me sound old!). So for a couple days both weeks I wasn't able to eat even my daily points. This goes to show you that eating less DOES NOT mean you lose more. For my body, anyways, it's quite apparent that I need to EAT in order to lose. This past week I ate over my daily points, using either my APs and/or my flexies. Eat up, folks! lol

I'm gonna be kickin' these 180s to the curb real soon!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that today I'm wearing my new size FOURTEEN black jeans! I was wearing a TIGHT size 24 in April. WoooHooo! :)

Week 5 (well really Week 6 b/c my WW at work didn't have a meeting Thanksgiving week)

This week (well two weeks) Lost -3.4

SW before program: 208
SW: 203
CW: 195.2
TL: -7.8
1st GW: 183 (10%)

Also, thrilled to report that I went shopping the other day and several size 16s pants were too big! I realize it has a lot to do with brand, etc. but I was thrilled.

My Thanksgiving plan of not baking & such as I usually do worked well. I only made one dessert, the WW pumpkin flan which is 3 pts per serving, but I put it in smaller (tiny cups) so it was really like 1.5 pts per serving and tasted pretty close to pumpkin pie. Guests seemed to like it as well.

I didn't bake any other cookies or pies, so that helped just not having stuff in the house. I did fairly good on Thanksgiving, the weekend was a bit harder than Thanksgiving dinner as we had people visiting and went out to eat a bit.

I'm supposed to weigh in on Sunday. I didn't weigh in last weekend because I was away for Thanksgiving. I was okay during the vacation (could have done better, could have done worse), but since coming home I've been sick and unable to exercise. I got weighed yesterday at the doctor's office and looks like I've regained pretty much all of the 4 pounds I'd lost thus far on WW.

Should I even bother to go the weigh in? I'm tempted to just take another week and work really hard at it instead of going to the meeting and feeling terrible about myself. What do you all do when you're really blown it?

cheryll_with_2els

Rosebud03: I don't go to meetings and am an online member only, so I WI at home. I WI every week, regardless of a gain or loss. My advice to you is to just go, face the music, and put it past you. It's only one week out of a lifetime, so this gain won't matter in the big scheme of things. :)

cheryll with 2els, this is SUCH great advice!!! Thank you for the perspective. It's so difficult sometimes (and congrats on the Thanksgiving photos - WOW!!).

I'm up .6 this week. Soooo much less than I anticipated, so I'm glad. That puts me at -24 overall, with 22 to go. November was a wash. But I'm ready to hit December head-on and my mini-goal is to be -30 by the end of the year. Feasible, no?!

Congrats to all on a well-controlled Thanksgiving holiday and for still being on-plan post-holiday. I really think these are the easiest times to give up, when you anticipate a bad outcome and just decide to ignore it. Go us for continuing to weigh-in (good or bad) and (trite remark here) keeping it real :D.

Have a great week!

I had an unofficial WI today (I was too late for the early meeting, but too migraine-y to wait for my regular WI). So they kind ladies at the early meeting gave me a non-stickered WI...counting last week, I'm down 4.4 and that puts me at my 15 pound star!!!

Woohoo!!! I really wasn't expecting a loss with Thanksgiving weekend, so man, this feels great! :D Let's hope I can keep this roll going while on vacation - as my husband starts to plan out where we're going to be eating! Here's hoping!

daener: I wouldn't worry too much about a gain of .6 -- heck, that's just a good pee! :o

No, really.....so many factors come into play with gains. Just stay on track, drink EXTRA water this week, and I'll bet that .6 PLUS a bunch more will be gone next week! :)

Great job, Katy!

Don't worry daener. As Cheryll has said, that's small enough that you could be fluctuating with bloating, what time you ate, etc. You'll pull ahead in no time.

WI week 6 and I lost 0.7 pounds! I was totally prepared for a 2-3 pound gain after 2.5 days of eating whatever I wanted, so I was really happy! I think it just goes to show that it's what you do over the long run and not any one day or two, that matters.:)

SW: 151.8
CW: 141.1
TL: 10.7
GW: 122
To go: 19.1

Jennw - I tried WW while BF, but I was so afraid of messing up my supply (I had to work really hard to keep up with DD), I never knew how many points to eat (I was doing it on my own). So I'd eat an extra 5-10 a day. I lost 10 pounds in May while BF but then put the rest (10 pounds) on hold until we were done BF and I've lost it really easily. I think it works just fine, I was just paranoid about my supply! Oh, and you're supposed to have an extra 10 points a day.

katy - Congrats, you're doing awsome!!

cheryll - You continue to be an inspiration to everyone!!

You ladies are all such an ispiration to me. You are all such great losers!:D

Thanks wildcat. I am afraid of the same thing supply-wise but so far since I started (6 days) I have not seen a drop in supply. My supply is already low though so I am keeping a close eye on it. I am doing it on my own too and adding the ten points so hopefully that will be OK.

So maybe I should run into the kitchen and eat up all the leftover brownies so I can start fresh tomorrow!!!
This is soooo me and made me LOL.:)

WI tomorrow, after missing my last two meetings. Last Saturday, I was just too sick to leave the house, and the week before that I was OOT for a wedding.

So, I'm pretty nervous about WI tomorrow. I *think* I am down at least 2 lbs. since my last official WI on 11/11, but that's according to my scale at home. And I haven't exercised at ALL for over a week--thanks to this stupid cold, I haven't felt like doing anything!

Jellibelli
12-01-2006, 10:59 AM
Oh my jellibeans, what a week! I did great Thanksgiving day, but it went downhill from there. I've realized just how much of an emotional eater I am. The transmission went out in my car on Monday night . . . so I stayed home from work, eating corndogs and cheesecake. How pathetic am I? Skipped WI this week *gasp*. But, Cheryll you're right. It's all part of the journey - the losses and the gains. I'll go in.

Time to get back on track. I'm .6 away from my 20lb mark and I just need to get there so I have that success to boost me through this month (and today I'm sporting a new pair of jeans . . . 2 sizes smaller than when I started! WAHOO!).

CONGRATS to everyone on losses and gains! Hope you all enjoyed your Turkey day.

Welcome to all the newbies

Guess what girls . . . it's FRIDAY! have a happy one!

P.S. Chris~n~Jen, if you need help finishing off those brownies, let me know ;)

I've been very bad at posting in here - been avoiding the computer when I'm not at work. I haven't been doing too well at sticking to Core, but I have been trying very hard to make conscious decisions with food, and not going crazy. I went back to the gym this week after a three week hiatus and I think that's helped - getting up at 5:30am when it's dark and 30 degrees is a test of willpower, for sure! I didn't WI last week as I was out of town, but I'm hoping this week is a good one, despite my momentary lapse of staying on program!

WI today, and it was a good meeting! Down 4.2 pounds (keep in mind, I missed two meetings in a row, so the 4.2 pounds covers TWO weeks.

Current stats:

Starting weight: 179.6
Current weight: 151.6
Total lost: 28 pounds

I think I can attribute SOME of this loss to living on chicken soup, while I was sick recently. :)

I'm down another 3.0 pounds this week. I saw my dr this week for the first time since I started WW and he was thrilled with my progress and said that this is definitely the right path and the best way to do this.

Wow, some great losses this week!

I'm down 1.5 this week. I haven't really been tracking for the last few weeks. Eventually I'll see my 10% goal :o We've been so busy trying to finish up home projects before our holiday party that was last night, I didn't go grocer shopping a lot and didn't cook or make lunch. It was just easier to grab something while out. Now that the house is somewhat put back together, it should be easier to get into the swing of things... now I just need to get rid of the Italian cookies and cupcakes!

It's so encouraging to see that at this time of year - the traditional over-eating time, I think - that so many people are having great success. Keeps me motivated!

I was down 1.4 at my WI (skipped last week as I was in LA) and got my 10lb ribbon. Historically, this is where I quit so I really have to keep myself on track and remember this is a long journey but it'll be SO worth it in the end!

WI today, -.5. I always get on the scale three times to make sure, and it was flipping back and forth, so I kept the extra pound to be conservative. Do you ladies who go to meetings ever have that issue, or are the WW scales more precise?

PeanutButter
12-04-2006, 02:20 PM
Yes, greenbunny my home scale does that, too. But the WW meetings scales are accurate to the .1, so it is not as big a deal if it jumps a little. Also, at the meeting I currently attend, we can't even see the numbers... I am always holding my breath until the lady tells me what it says! :o

Speaking of which, I can't go to my meeting tomorrow because I have a final exam... I have had a good week, and I am almost positive I will have a loss. I am going to try to go to the WW center on the way to my exam. How's that for dedication?? ;)

Stuck In The Middle With Food

Well I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my plan,
And I'm wondering how I'll be able to stand,
Cheesecake to the left of me,
Chips to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with food.

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with food,
And I'm wondering what it is I should do,
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place,
Cheesecake to the left of me, chips to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with food.

Well you started out with a lot of weight to lose
And you're proud that this is what you choose,
And your friends, they all come crawlin,
Slap you on the back and say,
Your loss is such great news.

Trying to make some sense of it all,
But I can see that it makes no sense at all,
Is it cool to exercise on the floor,
'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore
Cheesecake to the left of me, chips to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with food.

Just do the best you can, Katy!

Well, I tried to go weigh in at the WW center in the city, and I just assumed they would be open at 4:00 in the afternoon. They weren't, and they wouldn't open until 5:45 PM. My exam is at 6:30, so I didn't want to cut it that close. Anyway, I'll have to make do with my WI at home...

WI week 11 -2.0
SW: 152.2
CW: 143.0

I've just come form my meeting, and I got a 4.6 lb loss this week, which meant I got another 5 lb star, the 10% keyring and the goal star charm! I'm really happy, although my personal goal is still quite far away. Also happy to hear that now I'll just have to pay $6 per meeting for the next six weeks and that's it.

At WI this morning I lost 1.0 lb. which I’m VERY happy with since TOM is knocking on my door. And I’m ECSTATIC to be out of the 180s and in a new decade, for a total lost of 70.6 lbs.!!!

170s...who woulda thunk? This feels so surreal, like it’s happening to someone else. lol

DH took an updated picture of me in my new “little black dress” that I bought for his office Christmas party. It’s on my website at the end of the progress pics.

WI#7 today and I lost 1.3 pounds!! I was really scared bc AF showed up yesterday which means bloating, but I think I drank a gallon of water yesterday trying to ward it off! I was also scared about Thanksgiving finally catching up to me, but I actually lost!woohoo!! AND, that means I hit the 130's! Only 3 more pounds to hit my pre-pregnancy weight!! Congrats to everyone on their losses. After two full weeks on WW, I def feel like I've lost something. Tomorrow will be the first time I WI (on my own, I don't go to meetings), so I am hoping for at least a few pounds lost! My goal is to lose 15-20 pounds by DS's 1st birthday (over 3 months away). Def a reachable goal, I think (and hope!)

You all inspire me! I hope to be a loser, too!:D

Hi ladies Well it has been so long since I have been here as I havent done good these past couple months and have been so depressed. I lost about almost 17lbs and gained about 7 back which is so upsetting. I know it is because I have been under alot of stress as work is so busy and have so much to do for the holidays that time is getting past me.

All you ladies are really an ispiration and I surehope I can start losing agian. I know it will take a lot of motivation from here on out and will hopefully keep you in the loop. :)

Is anyone else here doing Core? If so, what do you think about the snack changes? I saw that my new Flex point range would be one more (23 instead of 22), but I still can't see myself doing anything but Core. Although I don't think I will go with the new plan, I've been losing just fine with my old snacks.

Two weeks on WW = Nothing

I lost no weight with WW. I don't get it b/c it's been two weeks and I really FEEL like I've lost weight. Clothes feel bigger, etc. No idea why it's not reflected on the scale but I am annoyed, pissed and discouraged. But, I'll keep going. I only worked out once this week so maybe that was part of the problem? I'll keep trucking though because I feel thinner and my clothes have more room in them, so SOMETHING must be happening! Has this happened to anyone else? Last week I thought it was b/c of AF so I was so excited to WI this week... also I am doing this on my own not going to meetings. And I'm BFing so having more points.

I could have written this post:( I have been very unmotivated the past couple of weeks and tomorrow's WI is NOT going to be pretty. So tomorrow is a new week and a new attitude. I want to reach my 10% goal by my birthday in Jan, which I think is completely doable. I went grocery shopping tonight and stocked up and my Firm DVD and step are all set up ready to go for the morning. It should be interesting considering today was the first time I logged into my account in a while and was I surprised to see that my points dropped from 20 to 19  Now I know it's only one point, but a point is a point! Even more motivation to exercise and get those AP's!

I'm not sure how many of you use the WW website and e-Tools, but they've changed things up a bit. There's now a Points Target assessment quiz, and your points target may be changing. Mine went up by 3! They also account for breastfeeding moms now, so your 10 extra points will show up in your points tracker. Just thought I'd let you all know! I hope some material is passed out in the meetings sometime soon because I'm confused!

I do this on my own...anyone want to share the details on the newest program? Did the points really go from 20 to 19?

Girls, help pull me back in!! Thursday night we had my brother and SIL over for dinner and I went over on points, purposefully, using flex. Yesterday, I went over again bc we had Taco Bell for dinner and then I had to bake for my DH's office Christmas party that was tonight and of course I had to taste test...although, I only ate 2 oreo truffles with no bites of anything else...oh wait, a few pecans:rolleyes:. Then today was the party, we had Sweet Tomatoes for lunch and then the party tonight (meatballs, veggie/dip, chocolate dipped pretzerls, pie, etc). I spent all night chasing my 14month old around the party, so hopefully that burnt off some of those calories! Maybe I can survive on 10 points a day until I WI again:p. Wednesday night I have my office Christmas dinner and then Saturday is our friends Christmas party, then of course the next weekend is Christmas. I know I can do this, but it's very challenging right now!

In good news, my size 10's are falling off of me and I can actually take off my jeans without unbuttoning them! All my small tops fit well, and some are actually too big (before pregnancy I was an xs top and a size 4/6 bottom). However, I tried on size 8 jeans at ON yesterday and while I could get them on and zipped, they were not appropriate;). So annoying, one size too big but the other too small. Oh well.

Jenn - I found WW hard while BF. I never knew how many points to eat to be able to lose. If you aren't losing with the extra 10 a day, I would decrease it by a few and watch your supply to make sure it isn't affected, but see if that helps you to drop pounds. Just my opinion though!

Sol
12-09-2006, 10:12 PM
The point range changed according to height and some other things (I gained one point, but I do Core anyway). I don't use e-tools, but I went ahead and signed in for the one free week (www.weightwatchers.com/free) to be able to see all these changes (I've used my two free weeks when I started WW and I was able to cancel it immediately, so I'm comfortable with the trials they offer).

The new ranges take into account: weight, height, age and these questions:

In your main occupation are you mostly:
Sitting down most of the time
Occasionally sitting, but mainly standing
Walking most of the time
Doing physically hard work most of the time
Your weight loss approach
Users who are just starting with Weight Watchers are in the “lose weight” mode. Once you have reached your goal weight, retake this quiz and select “Maintain your current weight.”

Do you want to:
Lose weight
Maintain your current weight
For mothers of young children only -- are you:
Not currently nursing
Currently nursing

I can't calculate other people's ranges because my info is fixed, but I'm pretty sure the math will be posted online sooner rather than later. The UK program has a similar questionnaire (but different point values) and that one is online already.

PeanutButter
12-10-2006, 06:21 AM
My point value stayed the same (thank goodness!!!) because I don't think I could eat less than 20.

Maybe I am crazy, but I *thought* I heard that they last time they switched the system, "they" decided that no one should eat fewer than 20 points.

The old system was 18-23 a day, for the bottom range, and I heard that 18 was not enough calories. I guess for some people it is!

If my points went down I would have been furious. I am a student, so I sit most of the day, but I take public transportation and walk about a mile each way to/from school. I think their way of estimating your daily activity level is very rough.

I'm at +.5 for todays' WI. I was home sick since Tuesday, and food for up until yesterday consisted of "whatever I could keep down" which amounted to toast and ice cream.

I hate the new points tracker. It won't let me switch to the old one until it loads the new one every freaking time, and half the time it locks up my computer. The site is pissing me off. Fixing something that isn't broken is always a bad idea.

If you look on the lowers left side of the WW site, I believe it says "Original Tool Links" whihc is what I used The original pts tracker is there.

Thanks Wildcat. I am finding it very difficult, too! According to WW, I can have over 30 points while BFing and I've been keeping it to around 25 with nada loss. This week I'm going to drop another point and keep my eye on my supply. I don't have an overabundance in that dept. so I don't want to mess it up, but I want WW to work!:) Thanks.:D

Jenn - Again, I'm not an expert, but as counterintuitive as it sounds, you may need to eat more, also. If you're eating 25 instead of 30, maybe you're body needs more? It sucks, but play around with it and you'll find what works! Good luck!

12-11-2006, 08:33 AM
I was just about to say what wildcat said. I would really eat AT your points target. If you are eating too few points/calories, your body will conserve the fuel it is getting and you will not lose weight.

Thanks, jellybeany. I can't wait to tell DH that he suddenly is going from 28 points to 36?!?

udsweetpea
12-11-2006, 08:36 AM
JennW That points target isn't what "you can have", its what you need to have. That's the minimum you need to eat per day to see a loss. I hope eating more brings you a loss!

Hello Kitty
12-11-2006, 08:44 AM
Yes, yes, yes! Thirding (fourthing?) the idea that you really need to eat your minimum of points, in order to keep your body fueled and metabolism running.

I like the new points generator. IMO it's a great way to really help people get a more customized target. However, I think it will be a hard thing for some people to follow, because so many people think they should be eating less and less to lose weight.

Well, this is my first time on WW since vacation and I wanted to check out the new program. I can't find the "points" quiz. It looks like they raised my points a few points (not the best considering I seem to have been having challenges eating all my points to begin with).

Nevermind :o After MUCH poking around the board, and heading into my profile, I found the quiz there. It seems that I was bumped up two points. Not so sure about that, especially since I'm down 15 pounds (or was, before vacation anyway). But I'll follow right along. I'm a good girl like that

Anywho, last night was my holiday party, so I'm just going to call it a wash and just use my 35 points. I wasn't too bad, dinner was steak and grilled veggies, but the fresh mozzarella, pizza and chocolate cake put me over the edge :p

After you take the quiz and hit save, it'll bring you to a screen with your points target. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page it will say "Adjust Your Daily POINTS Target " and a link, just click on it and you can change it.

Has anyone noticed that the WW site is wicked slow since the change? I'm about to throw my comptuer through the window!

Aug2005bride and chefker You can also figure out your points using the quiz jellybeany posted on the previous page (post # 552)

I think you get screwed by the new system if you are short. Just another example of the (tall) man, keeping us down!

Also, men get SO many more points than women.

My DH was supposed to eat 28/day under the old system, and he supposedly is going to 36?!
Does this seem remarkably high to anyone else?

greenbunny
12-12-2006, 11:48 AM
That does seem high, PB. And ITA about the height thing--I'm barely 5'2" and am down to 18 points (but I did get it adjusted back to 20 using Sue's system on the previous page).

ETA: While grousing about the lowered points and new system, I've been eating cheesecake. :o

Chefker, I *finally* found the quiz last night. It's on your profile page on eTools.

cheryll_with_2els
12-12-2006, 12:21 PM
I lost 2 points too. But one of them is TOTALLY unjustified. I know, by taking the quiz, that my points will drop when I turn 47, which is on the 19th. However, WW online already shows me as 47....how DARE they! lol So, I'm only going to drop myself 1 point (from 24 to 23). And as for the other 1 point drop, my points would have dropped when I hit 175 anyways, so I will just wait till then to go down to 22 points. 22 Points! Now that's scary!

And just in case you didn't know (maybe someone explained this already -- I'm behind on my reading), after you take the online quiz and hit save, there's a place at the bottom of the page where you can adjust your points up or down. That's what I'm doing for now so it shows up in my daily tracker correctly.

chefker
12-12-2006, 12:36 PM
Katy, I just found it--thanks!

I'm a little annoyed with how they keep re-doing stuff every few years. Like greenbunny said, if it ain't broke, why fix it? Back in 1999 when I joined, it was the 'Winning Points' system. There were no 35 Flex points per week, but the daily points target was a range--mine was 18 to 25 as I neared my goal weight. If I ate just 18 points--well, I usually would feel deprived. With 25, I didn't feel like I was starving. And I lost 50 pounds under the 'old' system, so obviously it worked, ya know?

I'm going to plug in DH's stats to that quiz just for ha-ha's, and see what it comes up with.

My WI was this morning, and I gained +0.7. I'm okay with this since I've noticed that I sometimes have a gain *after* TOM...I guess my body holds on to extra water. Plus I ate 31 of my flexies, which I just don't normally do. You have to play around with your APs and flexies to see what works best for you, and my body loses best eating 1/2 to 2/3 of my flexies and all my APs.

But, the GOOD news is, I decided to take my measurements again since it's been a while. The last time I took them was on Aug. 27, and since that time I've lost 23-1/4 inches, for a grand total of 40-3/4 inches lost since April!

The scale is just one way to measure our success, so I encourage everyone to take your measurements!! :)

I weighed in for the first time since my two week vacation and overall, I didn't do so shabby. For two weeks, I basically ate whatever I wanted (but avoided all but 2 glasses of wine - maybe - and one margarita) and only worked out once. I only gained 1.6 pounds and I know that I can lose that in one week. So all in all, not so shabby.

Are any of you non-meeting-goers? I decided not to do meetings anymore since I'm not getting much out of them, they're a strain on my limited budget, and I lose slower on my own. I was wondering how you all keep yourselves motivated if you don't go to meetings. Any suggestions/advice?

UD - I lost all of my 26 pounds on my own...2.5 away from goal. I just did not have the time to go to meetings. I went to them at the beginning to get a good feel for the program and then continued on my own.

As for motivation I started signing up for races (running & biking) and just did not want to be unhealthy anymore. The races always give me a reason to get out and train (or else I look like a dope at a race) and well, what else do you have if not your health.

I didn't weigh in last week, so that was a los of 1.0 for two weeks, but I'm okay with that as we had a holiday work party last week and one early this week.

Congrats to everyone on their losses and good luck to all of us as we continue to work towards our goals.

I wanted to share with you a quote that a friend passed on to me.

So after many years of my weight going up and down—of saying on Monday "I'm going to do it" and by Wednesday failing—I realized that the commitment to do well and to be well is a lifetime of choices that you make daily. The space to live in is not "I'll try." Not "I want to." Not "I really want to." It's "I have decided."

The first thing I told my team was, "I want you to think about why you're overweight. But let me save you a lot of time: The reason you're fat is that you give more to other people than you give to yourself, because you don't feel you're worth it." The bottom line is, you cannot lose weight until you make yourself enough of a priority to do the things you need to do to make it happen. People always say, "I'm too busy to exercise," "I have to be there for the kids," "I've got too much work." You know what? These are little lies you're telling yourself, and they go against the laws of self-preservation, because the more whole and healthy you are, the more fully you can give to other people. And that's the truth. I'm not asking anyone to abandon her children. I'm just saying: Put yourself at the top of the list so you can treat your body with as much care and respect as you'd give to someone else's—and when anyone needs something from you, you will be operating from a full cup.

This is from the Oprah's website from the bootcamp thing. The part that really resonated with me was about putting yourself first. Good luck, esp. over the holidays!

Well, I decided to start WW. I was going to wait until the new year, but then I thought - why am I waiting?

So, I started yesterday. I really need to go shopping as most of what is in our house right now is not points friendly at all! Well, that's not entirely true, we switched to whole wheat pasta over a year ago, so at least there's one healthy thing in my house. :D

I'm all out of veggies, so I definitely need to load up on them, as well as some fruits.

I read in another thread that egg whites are 0 points, is that true?

I'm joining up.

This is my first time joining a CC WW thread, but I have done WW before. I originally reached my goal weight right around the time DH and I got engaged and kept it off pretty well for 2 years (fitting into a wedding dress is good motivation), but I have gained it all back plus some...I weighed myself this morning and weigh (down to the tenth of a pound) exactly 20 lbs more than I did when I started WW the first time.

I'll just be using the e-tools, and working out at the gym...no meetings. Like Jenny, we decided to start today rather than wait just a few more days for the new year. We need to go shopping today too. DH and I are both going to give the Core Plan a try for at least a few weeks because we feel like we need to retrain ourselves into healthier eating habits and not just still eating junk (but within points limits).

I was up 1.5 pounds this week (weigh-in was yesterday), but I dropped the 1.5 today when I looked at the scale this morning. So no real gain over Christmas. but my biggest problem is getting back into the swing of things. I'm not eating the right things and definitely going over my points limit. BF and I are going to try that Special K diet after New Year's along with WW. My biggest problem though is getting to the gym. I go eventually but I don't have the motivation to get there anymore. I just want to sit around the house or nap. Must go to gym!

cheryll - was your Dr impressed with your weight loss to date? How did you set your original goal weight?

jennylou: Yes, he was ecstatic with my weight loss to date! He even mentioned it again when the nurse came back in the room and pointed out to her that I'm doing it all online. It was kind of cute.

I set my original goal weight using WW's range for my age (47) and my height (5'3"). Their range is 113-141. So I picked a number in the middle, knowing that 113 is WAY to low for me, and feeling 141 was too high. But the closer I get to that weight, the better I'm feeling about it. And once I get to about 142 or so, I'll decide if my body needs to go lower.

I was chatting with someone on the WW site, and she is currently 141, same age and height as me and same body shape (pear), and she wears size 8. Hey, I'd be REALLY happy to wear an 8! :)

LOL, I think the last time I saw an 8 was in middle school. :p I squeezed into a 10 once after that, but it was squeezing - never comfy. I was really happy with being a 12/14, and would love to be there again. I'm 5'7, and I think that size is good for me. :) I actually just found two pictures of me about that size and I can say I'd be thrilled to look that way again. :D

I can't even remember being a size 8. Probably in junior high school. For most of my adult life, I've been over 200 lbs. So this is all new to me. :)

I just joined online WW again. I stopped my membership due to trying to save money. With college graduation and the holidays I've done horribly. I'll get back on track though :)

DH and I just moved into a new apartment complex. It has a kick butt workout facility and also walking trails. I'm super excited :D

Funny thing happened at WI today...it shows that I gained 4 pounds  But don't worry, I *know* I didn't gain 4 pounds! Aside from a bit of alcoholic overindulgence this past week (but the champagne and the wine was SO worth it), I was really good about watching what I ate - even while PMSing. Well, except that I had highly salty food every.darn.day!

So I'll just go back to working out, drinking lots of water and watching what I eat. I'm not worried...honestly, I'm quite amused.

Katy, I'm right there with you with a 4 pound gain over the course of the last few weeks of holiday parties, office snacks, etc. I know I overindulged, but I'm slowly getting back on track! I figured I put the 4 pounds on pretty quick, it'll come back off pretty quick, I hope!:p

I must get back into the swing of WW. The holidays have thrown me way off track. Too much wine, candy, chips, goodies and general indulgence.

We went to the store last night and got lots of healthy stuff so I can make sure to still fit into all of those new clothes I had to buy!

What I really need to do is start counting my points again. That is where the wheels come off the wagon.

Cheryll, your loss is awesome! You will be at your goal in no time.

I haven't read this whole tread, but have a question about WW. The website says it now calculates your points allowance based on your age, height, weight and gender. I'm tall (5'10") and young (25), and I was always hungry when I was on WW. I had a daily allowance of 22 points, but I found out that I can eat 400-500 more calories a day than I was eating on WW and still lose weight.

I'd like to join WW again if it will give me enough points, but not if I feel like I'm always "cheating." It won't tell me how many points I get unless I sign up, though. Does anyone know how many points I can expect based on my height and age?

jennylou

I found this on how to calculate your daily points target

Your Personal Daily Points Target

1. Are you:
Female?.........score 2
Male?...........score 8
Female and Breastfeeding?.....score 12

2. How old are you?
17-26..............score 4
27-37..............score 3
38-47..............score 2
48-58..............score 1
over 58............score 0

3. What do you weigh?
Enter the 1st 2 digits of your weight in pounds.

4. How tall are you?
under 5'1.........score 0
5'1 to 5'10.......score 1
over 5'10.........score 2

5. Do you spend most of your day:
sitting down?........score 0
Occasionally sitting, but mainly standing?..... score 2
Walking most of the time?......score 4
Doing physically hard work most of the time? .....score 6

6. Do you want to:
Lose weight?...........score 0
Maintain your current weight?....score 8

I probably shouldn't be getting on the scale everyday, huh? LOL, I can't help myself.:o

At any rate, even though I know it could still fluctuate, since I won't officially weigh in until Wednesday morning, I have to say, I must have had a lot of water weight to shed! The scale is showing an 8 pound loss already. I'm eating more food than I have in awhile, so it must be the quality of foods that I'm eating is allowing me to be full and satisfied.

udsweetpea
12-30-2006, 02:56 PM
That's great, jennylou!!! I jump on the scale every day too. It keeps me motivated whether it goes up or down. Just make sure you step on at the same time every day. For example, I step on in the morning right after my morning bathroom break and completely naked so its a true weight.

cheryll_with_2els
12-30-2006, 03:17 PM
I'm a daily weigher too, with my official WI on Wed. mornings. I don't let the daily fluctuations get me down because I understand them and my body. It just keeps me motivated, and if I see I'm up after maybe a salty meal the nght before, I know I need to get extra water in that day. :)

Thank goodness the holidays are nearly over!!! I think it's a great accomplishment to still be weighing in and holding ourselves accountable -- even when we know we'll hear news we don't like. I think that just to be able to maintain that honesty with ourselves is a huge step on the road to keeping the pounds off in the long run.

I have managed to maintain this season....sadly, I've been maintaining since before Thanksgiving. New year, new motivation!!!! I'm ready to kick these last 22 pounds to the curb.

Congrats to everyone on their weight loss success this year!! Here's to reaching our goal weights in 2007!!!

I've never tried a structured program to lose weight, but on the other hand I've never been able to keep the weight that I lose off. I have been saying for a long time that I didn't really care if I was overweight. Well, I am finally able to admit to myself that I do care! I feel like I am missing out on so many things in life! I am hoping that WW will give me the support and knowledge to get this excess weight off. I am going to join WW this week. I would like to lose 50 lbs before my wedding (7/18/07). I've heard some about the WW program, but I don't really know how the WW program works. Would anyone care to tell me more about it? I look forward to joining you ladies in here once I join. :)

goal weight 135

i hate the first week or so of starting the program. i am HUNGRY! and i am a big, big snacker, especially at night time!
i just need to get in a habit of eating the better things again! right now i just feel like i need to eat all the time :(

Okay, I'm taking my first step at getting back on the wagon by posting here. I've been reading along and you guys are a huge inspiration! I don't know what my starting weight is or what weight I want to end up with. I just know I want to keep losing weight until we TTC#2 in August. I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy and I'm hoping to avoid that with the next. I'm dreading this first week because I'm always starving when I start, but we're moving on the 12th, so I'm hoping that will keep me busy enough to not feel hungry. Off to go sign back up online and come up with something filling for breakfast!

WI yesterday (I'd already skipped WI on Christmas, couldn't do it twice!) and I'm -.5 for two weeks. I don't think it will stick because I've been weighing every 3-4 days and fluctuating like crazy, plus I ate sporadically and seldom while on vacation.

So I am jumping on here too. I did WW last year and lost about 20lbs and I have gained back 15lbs. So I am here again to try again and I am feeling really positive. We are going to start TTC in March and since I have PCOS any and all weight loss will be helpful.

I logged on to WW today and found I get several more points then I did in August when I was last online. That is nice. I was going to do Core, but I plan on doing Flex while trying to eat more like I am on Core, ie -more whole grains, fruits & veggies, more whole food and less junk.

I am excited to be on this journey with all of you :)

My WI was this morning, and I'm down another -2.0 lbs. -- and that's with AF arriving this morning! :)

I went shopping Sat. with the gift card DH gave me for my birthday....one of my favorite stores, Coldwater Creek. I was able to fit into a size 12P dress slacks and medium tops! I thought it might just be a fluke (lol), so I went Sunday to get some new jeans, and sure enough, size 12P it is! This is so surreal to me 'cuz in April I was wearing a TIGHT 24.

f = fat grams and r is fiber. If something has 6 grams of fiber you use 4/5 because 4 is the minimum between 4 & 6. 4 grams of fiber is the cap. Hope that helps!

Good morning, ladies. I just re-joined WW last night. I love their new monthly plan since I remember the days when you had to pay extra for etools.

I have done WW twice: in 1997 I lost 18 lbs and in 2002 before my wedding I lost 20 lbs. Their plan works well for me (Flex). Now, after having a baby, changing jobs and moving, which all contributed to a more sedentary and fast-food lifestyle, I need to get back to an active, WW lifestyle. DH and I also just bought an elliptical machine, yet to be assembled, from Sears, since all their exercise equipment was on sale.

I haven't decided on my goal weight yet (besides hitting my 10% loss, of course). I'm tall (5'8") and in 1997, got down to 140, but found that was too hard to maintain. I think my goal will be 150, so I've got around 30 lbs to lose this time.

Ok girls, I'm back. Wow did I take a LONG detour over the holidays, about 4 weeks off WW, and gained a pound a week. At my WI today I was up 4.4 pounds from what I was on 12/7. That's ok, I lost it before, I'll do it again! 8 pounds to go to be at my pre-pg weight, 22 to go to be at goal (before TTC again!).

It's great to see so many people in here, it can get quiet sometimes!

Jenny - Good grief, that's an AWSOME loss and just what I needed to read today to get me motivated!!

Leslie - YEA, we're on the same thread again!!:D I've missed catching up with you since the kiddo's have been born! Good luck to you and yea for a TTC#2 date!

Congrats Cheryll, and WTG Jenny!

I'm back, after a brief absence. :) I missed three weigh-ins in December due to sickness and/or holiday plans. I was lucky enough to get the stomach flu before Christmas, then the week of Christmas, EVERYONE in my house caught a nasty cold.

So while I haven't been counting points for a bit, all this sickness has made everything balance out enough to where I have maintained, and hopefully NOT gained, throughout the holidays. I will find out 'officially' where I'm at during tomorrow's meeting. My scale at home has remained steady, so hopefully that'll continue!

I've finally stepped up the exercise, too. No more excuses!

JennW
01-05-2007, 06:50 AM
I think I'll officially WI tomorrow although I've only been back to counting since Tuesday. I feel good though. That holiday food really makes me feel sick after awhile.

I doing WW on my own, no meetings, etc. I am trying to step up the working out, too. I only got in a few small workouts this week since I am pretty sick but I am doing what I can. I'll be back full swing once I can breathe again!

I am praying that I at least maintained throughout the holidays. I am really trying to hit my goal and lose 15-pounds by mid March (DS's first b'day). I'd love to lose 20 by then, but even 15 is a stretch, so we'll see. I have a feeling I'm not going to lose much until I wean DS (we're still BFing). I was counting for over a month before the holidays and did not lose 1 pound so I'm not expecting miracles this time around. I'm eating what WW says I should be eating for a BFing mom but it really does seem to be a lot! I'll trust them though and do what I can!

We went to the Texas Roadhouse last night. I thought I did pretty good picking out the smallest sirloin steak, getting veggies and a salad with the only light dressing they had. Ugh - any ideas for me? I have no idea if I used up my flex points or not. I had 22 points left for the day - should I just call it the remaining points and move on? Should I call it my 22 points PLUS some flex? How many? HELP! My BFF is in town and wants to go out to eat, so I need to figure out how screwed I am. I'm back on WW on-line and I hope I'm ready. I've went over my old charts the other day and I can't believe my ups and downs. Basically I started way back in March '02 at 163, stopped in June '02 at 155 because I got pg with DS 1, rejoined in June '03 at 190, stopped a month later at 185 because I was pg with DS #2, and now 2 years later, I'm back and I don't plan on getting pregnant again either ;). 1st Goal: Pre 1st baby pregnancy weight. 2nd goal, 155 lbs by DS's 4th b-day in March. I've typed it and there's no turning back now. Well that's my story. I'm hoping that I'll behave if I have witnesses.

I am going to WI tomorrow and I'm hoping I didn't do too much damage over the holidays. I have been pretty good with staying on track since the new year, but I haven't been keeping track of my non-Core foods.

DH and I are having a weight loss challenge against my ILs - we are all doing WW, only I think they are doing Flex and we are doing Core. Whichever couple loses the highest combined percentage of weight by April 1 gets an expensive bottle of wine. After not giving a flying fig for the past 5 weeks or so - pretty much the month of December - I am ready to jump back into WW full speed. WI today was 136.6, I'm pretty much back to where I started :o , but I lost it once, I can do it again :)

1 mommy, that is awesome for the first week! Congrats!

wildcat, I've missed catching up with you, too! Are you on LJ? I'm leslie_j_r over there. Do you have a tentative TTC#2 date, too?:D

Urgh, I just can't get back OP:(. Starting now...

Leslie - Nope, I've played around on LJ a bit, but never figured it out. Maybe I'll find you over there and you can teach me!:p We'll probably start TTC #2 sometime between Sept and Dec...we haven't totally decided yet! While I loved being pregnant and BF, I'm not totally ready to give up my body for 2 years again just yet!

Weighed in this morning... lost 3.2 lbs! I love that you always lose so much the first week. It always keeps me going, even though I know the weight loss will slow down.

Wish me luck for this coming week!

1mommy & doozer - Way to go with your losses!

Well, it's not official WI day for me, but since I WI every day, I have to admit that I'm frustrated. I seem to only be down about a pound in the last week. Admittedly, I had a great first week, but I just wanted to see a larger loss. Oh well, a pound is still a pound and I'm on my way to my first goal of 14 pounds loss - which is a start!

Impressive losses! Great job everyone!

jennylou, I had a great first week loss and then stalled out for a while. I think it puts your system in shock and it hoards calories. It will let up and the losses will increase again, I promise!

WI today and I'm down .5, which I'm very happy with. I haven't been counting in 3-ish weeks :o and I think this shows that I'm getting better at eyeballing portions (which has been hard for me) and making up for indulgences another time.

At a baby shower this weekend, I only ate half my cake and ice cream. My mother nearly fell over when I told her. I love my sweets. :)

Congrats to all of you losers! It's very motivating to see you all checking in with your losses!

jennylou, Don't worry about not having another big loss. I think pretty much everyone has a big loss their first week and then it tapers off. IIRC, my first week the first time around, I lost about 5.5 lbs. I never lost that much in 1 week again but from what everyone says, that's a good thing. A loss of 2 lbs/week is the ideal number.

I can't seem to stick to my points very well. I must have some been there done that thing going on in my head which lets me cheat or something. When I first started, I was so dedicated, and now I eat cake and don't even blink when I go over my points. I'm down 2 lbs in 5 days so I'm definitely eating less and better but I'm holding myself back and I know it. I think a trip to Trader Joes for some good food is in order. It's the damn afternoon munchies that are killing me.

Could you post the recipe??

yea, i guess that would be nice huh :)

1 box of cake mix
1 can diet soda
2 egg whites
bake as directed on box

from the recipes i was reading it said that this held better as a cupcake. after baking them i see why, they are really moist and break apart pretty easy.
if you use a white cake mix, you can use diet 7-up
spice cake-diet rootbeer
chocolate-diet pepsi, i used diet black cherry
there are so many ways that you can do it :)

FROSTING the recipe calls for coolwhip frosting. i left mind plain, and put regular frosting on the ones that were for the kids

01-09-2007, 01:15 PM
Hmm what kind of cake mix did you use to get 1 point?

I make these all the time with just soda (no egg whites) but the lowest I've been able to get it is 2.5 points.

doozer - great loss!

jennylou, I had a big loss the first week too, then it slowed down a little. I tried increasing my exercise a bit to compensate.

greenbunny & JuliaK, been there done that :D I just got so tired of counting every little thing that went ino my mouth.

I have been doing really well this week, countng my points and exercising. I haven't gone over and haven't used any flex points yet. Hopefully Sunday's WI will be a pleasant one!

one can of pumpkin puree
one box of spice cake mix
a little water
And you're good to go - bake as directed.

Pumpkin Spice Muffins? Cupcakes? Am I in the right place?

I did an unofficial WI at the gym today and I'm down about 2 lbs. (3 if you count the WI after my workout;) ). Talk about motivation. On the way home from the gym, the kids begged for McD's, and I caved. I looked in my glove compartment and saw all the B1G1Free Big Mac, 1/4 pounder, or Filet-o-fish coupons. I thought I was gonna have a panic attack. Passing up a good coupon deal is hard for me even if it does require me to eat 2 big Macs (doesn't take much arm twisting) but I did it anyway. I went for the chicken fajita thinking it couldn't be to bad. I got home and checked Dotties before I indulged and the fajita was only 4 pts! I even double checked with the Mcdonalds website. Yippeee!! I did steal 4 fries from the kids but I logged them too. I actually can't wait until my official WI on Thursday. I just hope I can keep this up for another 31 lbs.

Katy

Julia, I'll still eat McD's once and a while :o A cheeseburger is 11 and a small fry is 5. 16 isn't SO bad for the occasional splurge.

Wha? A REGULAR cheeseburger is 11 points? When I first joined WW, a regular cheeseburger (like the size you get in a Happy Meal), was something like 5 or 6 points.

Funny you should mention McDonald's. DH stopped for some fries over the weekend (he eats fast food maybe twice per year) and I grabbed a few. They tasted so gross! I asked him if they were rancid and he said they tasted fresh to him. I hope I've lost my taste for greasy food. Sweets, however, still sing a siren's song. :o

I can now get my jeans off without unbuttoning them. Psyched, I grabbed a pair that's a size smaller, and had to hold my breath to button them. What the heck? They're the same cut and brand, bought within a few months of each other. I guess I'm between sizes, but the higher one is so loose I thought for sure the next one down would fit.

Wow, the McDonald's cheeseburger used to be 7 points way back when. I wonder what they did to it to make it 11 points!!!

ETA- oh shoot, I was reading the wrong thing... the Double Cheeseburger is 11. Regular cheeseburger is still 7.

I'm surprised that you can get a cheeseburger and fries for 11 points. Not that I want to eat that every day, but that's good to know for times when it's necessary to eat out. At least I know what I can eat there.

And when we eat there, we are usually on the run, driving, so no eating salads. But, how are the salads there?

Woohoo!!! Congrats Jennylou!

A cheeseburger & fries only 11 pts.? Not bad at all. I'm tempted to look up other stuff but I won't becaue then I'll let myself go there more often.

WW.com has been fine for me. Just earned myself 4 activity points for going to Yoga this morning. That should help me pay down my debt. I'm hoping for a solid 3 lb loss tomorrow. Lean Cuisine for me tonight!

I WI this morning and I'm down 3lbs. I'm a little disappointed because I had stepped on the scale over the weekend and was down 4lbs. I was hoping for that amount to increase, BUT, there's a lot going on here with my son being sick and us (hopefully)moving on Friday, so I've fallen off the wagon a bit and I should just be happy that the scale hasn't gone up over my starting weight.:p

Not as good as Chylynn (way to go!), but I'm down 3.2 lbs in my first week. I'll take it! It's that TOM anyway, so I know I've got some extra water weight on.

My goal for the week is to use our new elliptical at least 2x over the weekend, and figure out how to make good choices when we tailgate at the Ravens game Saturday. My SIL is making pulled pork and asked me to make a taco seven-layer dip. I'll be making that with fat-free ingredients, no doubt, and maybe I'll grab some veggies to bring and munch.

Official WI weight....167 = -4 :D I'm in shock. I'm sure 1 lb of it was all the sweat from Yoga (I do Bikram) but I'll take it. I feel like I can definitely make it down to 155 in 2 months. I think I can...I think I can...

ETA: I don't appreciate the guilt trip WW.com gave me about losing more than the recommended 2 lbs. Talk about a buzz kill!

I fell off the wagon so hard, I bruised myself. Damn holidays and damn lack of willpower. I skipped WI last week as I overslept and then realized I just didn't want to see that increase on the scale. I know - denial doesn't help - but I'm pleased to say that kicked me back into gear and I am back on plan. Will go on Saturday and WI and be held accountable. Then I have two weeks on the road for work and I'm already downloading menus for the hotels I'll be at so I can plan breakfast, lunch and dinner. Will take water and good snacks for the room - I'll be working 12 hour days so I need snacks!

Some great results in here - also very motivating!

Hi Ladies, subscribing. I started WW on my own this week, no weigh-in or meetings, have done this all before unfortunately. Goal wt loss is 20 pounds. I had a gorgeous baby boy 7 months ago and was sick before and after so I'm already 7 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight, I just need to lose the 20 I gained with my 1st DS who is now 3 years old:rolleyes: . I'm still nursing about 2-3 times per day and haven't allowed myself an extra points-no wonder why I'm starving!!!! (but I have had an extra bite here and there when preparing meals that I haven't counted). I got on the scale already and have lost 1.6 pounds in 3 days....happy with that. Already I feel less bloated and healthier.I am waiting for DH to move our treadmill back out of the basement where it was enjoying semi-retirement. Hoping to keep up the good work with the support of my fellow CC'ers. Congrats on the weight loss girls.........Here's to a skinny New Year:D

Good job on all the losses, ladies!!! Keep up the good work. It's so worth it!

I had WI yesterday, and I maintained. That was a first for me. :p In the past on weeks when I didn't think I was going to have a good loss, I've either been up a bit or down a bit, but never right on the money. I was expecting a post-TOM gain, which is what my body has been doing for the past few months, so a maintain was good!

Just a PSA: Girl Scout cookie sales will be starting soon. I found some sites with good NI so you can make, ummm, informed choices. :D
