I just had to post this. It was too funny to pass up. Forgive me!

LONDON (Reuters) - Surgeons in China who said they performed the first successful penis transplant had to remove the donated organ because of the severe psychological problems it caused to the recipient and his wife.

Dr Weilie Hu and surgeons at Guangzhou General Hospital in China performed the complex 15-hour surgery on a 44-year-old man whose penis had been damaged in a traumatic accident.

The microsurgery to attach the penis, which had been donated by the parents of a 22-year-old brain-dead man, was successful but Hu and his team removed it two weeks later.

"Because of a severe psychological problem of the recipient and his wife, the transplanted penis regretfully had to be cut off," Hu said in a report published online by the peer reviewed journal European Urology, without elaborating.

I had read that...funny wasn't the first thought to come to my head. I thought it was amazing that a transplant like this could be performed, seems they can transplant almost anything now a days. I could see where the psychological problems could come in, for both the husband and the wife. Kinda sad IMO.

Yeah but this:

The microsurgery to attach the penis, which had been donated by the parents of a 22-year-old brain-dead man

is completely horrible sounding to me! They took the penis of a brain-dead, yet living on life support, man! Why would you do that?!

Sorry. I must have a sick sense of humor. I still think it's pretty funny.

I wouldn't call it funny either, just amazing and sad. I wonder how this will affect sex-change surgeries?

I think it probably has to do with the tissue being alive. If the man were already dead they may not be able to use certain organs because the tissue would be dead. I believe with organ donation in a situation where the donor is brain dead, some organs have to be removed first (under anesthesia) and then they remove the person from life support. That's how I understood it, anyway.

Ditto.

Man in tragic accident
Young brain dead son of two parents
Psychological trauma

Funny? Not the word that comes to mind for me either.

Not funny to me either, but actually rather sad.
