What brand of puppy food do you feed your puppy? Is there a reason why you use this particular brand?

We used Nutro Natural Choice small bites since we have a yorkie, she loves it. It comes for large breed dogs also. Here's a link (http://www.nutroproducts.com/naturalchoicedog.asp).

We used to use Science Diet b/c we initially got that from the vet and it came recommended by other people. However, Sabin wouldn't eat it often and his fur was VERY dandruffy. He just had terribly dry, scaly skin. Now he eats Nutro, Natural Choice Lamb stuff b/c there's no wheat and his skin looks great! No dryness at all anymore! Another plus is that he loves it (unless we're at my MIL's house, where any new food is superior to his own apparently).

We feed Serena PetSmart's brand - Authority - because that's what the rescue where we got her was feeding her. She seems to like it and she's shown no adverse skin reactions or tummy troubles.

We chose to feed her Canidae. IMO it's important to feed a dog with the long term in mind, and that means getting a very healthy food that is going to avoid a lot of problems later.

There is some good information in this thread, worth a read even if you have a small dog:
What do you feed your medium-large size dog? (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?p=23585)
Especially in post 32, which lists different brands and ingredients to look for or avoid. I also included included for comparison in post 35 the top ingredients of several popular lower-quality brands--Purina, Science Diet, Iams, and Eukanuba.

Yep, I suggest looking through the thread liked above as well as the 'what do you feed your dog' thread. We fed our pup every brand from Solid Gold to Beneful and she wouldn't eat any of it - we ended up doing a raw diet for about 6 months and now she's back on dry.

Ours gets Eukanuba (sp?), always has, it seems to keep her very healthy.

For kibble, we feed ours a mix of Purina One Puppy Chow for large Breed Dogs and Nutro Natures Way Puppy Chow for Large Breed Dogs. We mix these for two reasons. The frist is that we initally just fed them Purina One until we learned about Nutro dog foods. So our dogs got used to the tase of Purina One and like it very much. Nutro - not so much. So we mix them.

The seconfd reason is cost. Nutro is almost 3 times as expensive as Purina One and my dogs eat 40+lbs per month. However, I don't think we ar ehurting their nutrition by mixing at all, andtheir vet seems t think they are very healthy.

The last reason for mixing is to provide a good balance of bulk and filler. The Purina One food had a lot of filler and bulk and their stools were voluminous, and loose. The Nutro was just the opposite (a low volume food) and sometimes tehy would become constipated. The blend seems to keep them regular, with 1-2 "normal" looking stools per day.

Also, they each get 1/4 of a can of Pedigree Puppy Food canned food on top of their kibble, but I don't raelly count this. It is a treat to them and they really love it so we won't stop it, but it is such a miniscule part of their daily caloric intake that it doesn't really matter.
