Woo Hoo! New Thread and I'm first!:p

Big news! Grant is started giving "real" smiles! Okay so he started last week, but he is doing much more in the last couple days and definately as a response to us and not just cause he feels like it. They are the big toothless grin type too :D. I even got a bunch on camera last night, I'll post some later once I get them uploaded. Also he finally has eyelashes you can see, now he looks even more like his big bro. Isaac has eyelashes that are about 2 inches long, seriously he could hurt someone with them.

Okay gotta go 2 yr old crying, and not sure why.

Just subscribing to the new thread!

I am sooooo tired. Allison is a wonderful day sleeper and up all night long. Last night she wouldn't go to sleep until about 12:30am and then woke up at 3:00am and was awake until 5:00am!!!! Of course DS came into the room at 6am. So basically we got about 4 1/2 hours of sleep total. DD is sleeping like a log right now, I even vacuumed next to her and she didn't even flinch. UGH!!!!! I think I'm going to go into nurse mode and put her on a schedule.

Reagan and I spent the weekend by my parents. She got thrown out of her routine hard core!! It was nice seeing my family though, and everyone loved her. :) Sunday night she didn't sleep for longer than an hour. :( Last night was better though.

We're starting to get smiles - half ones but smiles nonetheless. I have it on my phone unfortunately.

Wow, it sure is obvious that we're all a bunch of new moms, posting has slowed way down in this thread. :p

Nora is 4w5d now. She's a pretty fussy baby. Nighttimes are good for us now, so I can't complain there, but boy is during the day until bedtime rough on me!

How about a QOTD (week?) -
How old is your DC and what "activities" are you doing?

For us, we try to do tummy time. But, it's not every day - if she's particularly fussy, tummy time just makes her fussier. I try to talk to her and tell her what I'm doing all the time. I sing to her (though I can't remember all those childrens songs and all the words to them!).

babylove
09-13-2006, 05:32 AM
QOTD: I talk to Jake all the time. We try tummy time a few times a week too. DH reads to him every night (it's their little bedtime ritual). I also sing to him.

***

Does anyone have a LOUD sleeper? Jake has recently started making the loudest grunting noises as he is falling asleep. It sounds like he is playing a tennis match! :D It's disruptive enough that we are considering moving him into his own room earlier than we had planned.

I'm starting to wonder whether Jake actually has baby ezcema. The Aquaphor made his rash HORRIBLE and so I haven't been putting anything on it. Now it's almost gone! He still has a minor diaper rash...it's gotten so much better since we've eliminated wipes (I'm using wet cotton balls). We might be doing that for good for a while. For anyone who doesn't use wipes, what do you use? The cotton balls seem to be working but it's so annoying to have to run the sink so the water gets warm and then wet the cotton balls every time he needs a diaper change...anyone have any shortcuts?

ETA: Oh and now we have a pacifier lover! He hated it until yesterday and now he's addicted!

it's a bug

Just checking into the new thread! Today I'm working on making sure Kirsten gets naps during the day. For some reason, she has decided that she doesn't need to sleep after her 8:30 am feeding until after her 8:30 pm feeding. This makes for a LONG and unproductive day for me...as well as frustrating when I think about going back to work in a few weeks. Her nights are great though and that makes me very happy!

How old is your DC and what "activities" are you doing?

5 weeks old and I do a variety of "waketime" activitie with her. I mostly talk and sing to her while holding her after she eats, but I have been doing some tummy time and letting her lie on a play mat/baby gym for a little while. The book Your Baby's First Year Week by Week has some great ideas at the end of each week for toys and play. I realized last night that we don't have a lot of toys for Kirsten...just stuffed animals.

PLUNBride - Thanks for the heads up with snapfish.

K&HMommy - What are you doing to get DC on schedule. Cohen is doing the same thing you described.

What exactly does excema look like? E has a patch of really rough, dry skin between her eyebrows but it isn't red. We haven't dared do anything about it yet but also haven't felt the need quite yet to call the doctor.

QOTD- I have definitely been feeling guilty the last week that we don't do enough with her. I pulled our CD player down from the nursery to the living room and play classical music and kids CDs and sing and dance with her. We do tummy time a few times a week (though every day she gets plenty on our chest) and she plays on the activity mat (which I finally got put together). I do talk to her all the time. I haven't started reading to her yet, but I keep meaning to.

Nighttimes are fairly good, though E sleeps next to the bed by DH and he says she's very loud at night and keeps him up. Daytimes are a different thing. She just doesn't like to sleep on her back, so she's either sleeping in my arms or in the chair again. And when she does sleep, it is for a very short period of time so I am still not getting much done.

I tried on more pairs of shoes yesterday. They didn't fit :( I think I made my feet spread wider by not confining them to shoes for 6 months. I hate buying shoes.

QOTD - We aren't doing too much right now since DD is still so young. I do put her on her tummy and she doesn't really like it that much. She holds her head up great when you put her over your shoulder though so we'll practice "head lifts" that way. It's been super hot here (plus there is a fire burning pretty close to us so the air is horrible) so we've been staying inside. I'm anxious to get out and walk around with her in the stroller to get some fresh air. Plus I could use the exercise. :rolleyes:

Loud sleeper - add us to that group. I can't wait until we move and get her out of our room, she's driving me crazy. She snorts like a pig sometimes and is consantly making noise.

Tracee - DS had REALLY bad skin issues, horrible baby acne/diaper rashes, excema, cradle cap, the works... I used to cover him up when we would go out in public so people didn't think he had some horrible skin disease! We used a 0.5% hydrocortisone cream for his excema and that seemed to help. I don't know if you have Costco by you, but their generic brand of wipes worked for us - all the other ones would make him have a horrible rash. They are unscented so they are nice and mild for his skin. I'm happy to say that after about 6 months his skin finally cleared up.

Jennifer - your boys are adorable!! In terms of schedule, at work babies eat every 3 hours and they all seem to tolerate that schedule (some want to go every 4 hours). They are alert right before they are about to eat (then you change them interact with them), feed them and then they go right back to bed. That's the hardest part for us right now - going to bed after a feeding! I don't care about during the day but during the night is BRUTAL!! Of course yesterday she decided to stay awake for 1/2 of the day so it screwed up my 'schedule'. :p

QOTD - We're at 6 weeks. Reagan enjoys her tummy time. I usually do it 2-3 times a day for various times. Sometimes it calms her down and she falls asleep (I am hovering by her the whole time) and other times she screams her head off.

I dance and sing to her and we are starting to use the toys we have. We just put up her Gymini and my mom has gotten her some noisy toys that she seems to like at times. It's getting chilly here and I don't want to take her for too many walks. R gets so HOT in her carseat that I don't like to put her in there unless it's necessary.

I have my 6 week PP doctor appoingment tomorrow. DH is *very* excited for it :D

QOTD--We are doing some tummy time and time on his play gym. It is funny because David HATES the bouncey seat and the swing. DD LOVED them. I really wish he liked them because it is hard to get DD ready in the mornings with him screaming bloody murder.

Tracee-David is a loud sleeper too. He grunts and groans all over the place!!! That is why he is now out of the room. It is funny because my DD will imitate him grunting. I think she thinks he is crazy! :)

Chimi-Good luck at your appointment! :)

QOTD - How old is your DC and what "activities" are you doing?
E is almost 3 weeks old. I talk to her and sing to her when she is awake. We do a little bit of tummy time everyday. She has a couple of activity mats that I lay her on sometimes, but she is only just starting to look at the toys on them.

babylove E got a diaper rash when she was about a week old. I stopped using disposable wipes then and just used a wet washcloth. I started using the wipes again when the rash cleared up, but it came right back. So, now we are using Baby Bits (http://store.naturalbabies.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=1961). I put one in a spray bottle full of water and then spray it on a baby washcloth. It seems to work well and her rash went away (and stayed away!) without using any creams.

All of the babies are so precious!

x-post from my journal:

Logan had his 6-week WBV today!

Stats:
22 1/4 inches (75%)
10 lbs 15 oz (70%)
Head circumference 38.3 cm (50%)

His doc said everything looks good and he's right on target for his age. :) He's very happy with his weight gain and said it's great. Logan did fabulously - even let him listen to his heart without crying (which is a feat for my kids!). He got three shots and is currently sleeping them off, poor boy. I nursed him to sleep after he got them, which seemed to make him happy.

QOTD - Not a whole lot, sad to say. I mostly just talk to him and kiss his cheeks and play peek a boo when he's awake and not crying (which isn't all that often). I do think he smiled last week, though I'm not totally sure. It's hard with DD demanding her share of attention, too.

QOTD- Sadly not a bunch. Which I kinda feel bad about. :( Don't get me wrong, we talk to him and do some belly time and such but, with my 2 yr old it is almost impossible to give him the amount of attention I would like to give him.

Today two different poeple told me my ds looks like the size of a 4 month old! :eek: I know is big, about 15 lbs is my guess. Still it makes me sad that he is looking older than he is, I want him to stay my little baby.:(

Minor vent about DH - the man ALWAYS forgets to close the wipes container and leaves DD's dirty diapers either in the PnP or on her changing table. It's so gross and when I use the next wipe it's all dried out and I have to throw it out. It's so annoying - especially at 2 a.m. I know this is pretty minor; and all in all he's a great daddy and is helping out so much (the fact that he changes diapers puts him leaps and bounds ahead of my own father) but still.

Last week my DH changed A in the middle of the night. When I went to change her next I couldn't figure out why her pants were SOOOOO full. Well...somehow when he took off the old diaper it got stuck to the tabs of the new diaper so she was WEARING her old diaper still. Thank goodness both were just pee diapers! I actually took a picture of it because I thought it was so funny!

At least you guys have DH's that change diapers! My DH has changed 3 so far - twice he got showered, and the third time was in the middle of my 104 mastitis fever, and he got pooped on AND peed on. He'd never changed a diaper before, so at least we're making progress.

With that said - DH is great in everything else. He takes him for a couple of hours every morning to let me go back to sleep if I want to. I normally don't - just b/c I want to spend some time with him. He's excellent at taking him when he's fussy, and is just generally all around a great dad. Who'da thunk it! I was shocked - his dad NEVER even held him until he was 1. No kidding - he was scared of him being so little, and taking care of the children was "women's work." To date DH's dad has only held R once for 1 minute. :rolleyes:

I'm still dealing with Thrush - a side effect of the lovely antibiotic they gave to combat the mastitis. It's awful, ya'll. The pain - well, let's just say I see stars every time I feed R. Ugh.

All in all though - I'm having a wonderful time being a mommy. R's sleeping isn't TOO bad - he's just your typical one month old.

QOTD: We talk and sing to him all the time. We take lots of stroller walks, and we have lots of tummy time too. DH has a routine with him - every morning they play patty-cake with his feet, then DH works for 10 minutes teaching him to "crawl" and they practice standing. Oh - and I found out this morning that part of the routine included chocolate ice cream. YES, my DH has been sneaking a few little tastes of ice cream to my 1-MONTH OLD baby. Yeah, he won't be doing that anymore. Am I the only one who would be ill about that? :rolleyes:

I hear him waking up - we need to run to the grocery store, so I have to go feed and get going! ;) I won't clutter here up with new pics, but I will tell you there are new ones in my CC Journal! ;)

Nope. :D Husbands seem to like sneaking food to babies. I've been upset with my DH for sneaking formula to Kai in the mornings. (We had only been using the formula to supplement breastfeeding at night- or so I thought.) I guess he wants to feed the baby, too. And since we don't have a pump yet, he went ahead with the formula. The problem is that it was making Kai so sleepy that he wasn't ready to eat when I woke up, and I'm trying to keep my milk production up. Sabotage!

I mostly talk and sing to her while holding her after she eats, but I have been doing some tummy time and letting her lie on a play mat/baby gym for a little while. The book Your Baby's First Year Week by Week has some great ideas at the end of each week for toys and play.

I just bought this book on Ebay. Can't wait to get it!

QOTD - I have to admit that we are just now starting to do activities that stimulate Lily. As of late last week, she still seemed as though she could not focus on objects. However, that changed early this week. So, we now put her on her activity mat, have her watch her mobile and wave her hands in front her her face. Tummy time is limited...since she doesn't seem to enjoy it too much...but I am not worried since her head strength and control amaze us.

Another QOTD - Since I am new to all this, have any of you begun to sleep train (or lay the foundation for sleep training)...or attempt to initiate some type of schedule...or is it too early to even begin such a thing? I ask, because Lily has seemed to already put herself on a schedule. Bascially since birth she has slept at least 5.5-6.5 hrs (closer to 7-7.5 hrs) everynight. Sso, since it appears she tolerates a schedule...should I go with that and work more on it...or should I really leave the sleep training alone until she gets older?

Anyway....LOVE all the pictures....:)

Elizabeth and I went to work today for our company picnic. She was quite a hit. But when I got home I burst into tears. Going back to work is going to be so much harder than I thought, especially if they put me on a new client when I return - it will be like starting a completely new job. I keep telling myself that I would go back to work 3 days if I had a choice but the way I am feeling now, if I had the choice, I wouldn't go back. Unfortunately I don't have a choice.

I bought a new pair of jeans yesterday. The first time I went to the bathroom I tried to pull them down - it was the first time wearing pants with a zipper and a button since February!

Amy ~ LOL that your DH got showered :) I can't believe he gave R ice cream!

Cosmic ~ I have that book and love it!

Amy ~ That's great that Lily is putting herself on a schedule and sleeping so much at night! Question...when she sleeps for long stretches at night, do you find that she eats a lot more often during the day??

Jessie ~ The first time I went to the bathroom I tried to pull them down LOL! I did that too!! I'm sorry about your feelings about going back to work. Can you work PT or is that not an option either?

Schedule ~ Jake sort of put himself on a schedule about a week ago with naps. He naps in the morning after each feeding (2). Other than that, we are flying by the seat of our pants. When we are out, he sleeps the entire time, so I have no way of knowing if he would do the same thing at home. And at night, he sleeps anywhere from 3-6 hours (more often it's 3 hours) at a stretch. Last night was the first night he went 6 hours between feedings and man oh man were my bbs sore!!

QOTD - We are trying to get a night time schedule for Reagan. We give her a bath every night around 9 (depending on when she made a dirty diaper last). From there we feed her until she's done - about 10 - then usually goes down until about 2 or 2:30. During the day I try to go as long as possible between feedings so she's not so "on demand" but we're maxing out at about 2 hours. She's just hungrier during the day.

I know I'm going to have to supplement with formula when I go back to work. I have maybe 100 ounces frozen - but she eats about 30 during the day. That supply won't last long!!

I got into work next Tuesday to discuss my return. It will be difficult to think about leaving Reagan I'm sure. But, now I hear they gave a position I really wanted to someone brand new to the company. I'm a bit ticked off to say the least. I'll see what they have to say on Tuesday.

Hee - people are amazed that Nora is only five weeks old - but it's not her size, it's her hair that throws people off. :)

Nora sleeps really well at night. After her last feed (anywhere from 7pm until 9 pm - but usually closer to 9) she sleeps until between 2am and 4am. Then she sleeps until 7am until 8 am. It's heavenly sleeping, but she does eat tons during the day. Sometimes hourly.

Jennylou and Babylove - Lily usually takes her last bottle between 9:30 and 10:00pm. She then falls asleep right after. She usually wakes up around 5:45am. I give her a bottle and she will then go down again for about 2-2.5 hrs and wants another bottle. However, during the rest of the day, she feeds every 3 hours on the dot. Sometimes I can stretch her afternoon feeding to 4 hrs (only do it if she is sleeping...since I follow the rule of never wake a sleeping baby:))

I do have to note though...that even though she sleeps well at night...she tends to only take cat naps during the day. I am lucky if she falls asleep after being awake for over 2 hours...and then the nap is only 45 min-1 hr at best. She does though tend to take a long nap in the early evening (between 5 and 6:30pm) she will sleep for a few hours.

Ok...gotta go...she is awaking from her evening nap:)

Sorry I haven't been around this week. It has just been hectic. After 3 wonderful weeks, Michael suddenly started getting really fussy last weekend and then it turned into full on screaming for hours every afternoon this week. He wasn't sleeping, I wasn't sleeping, and we were both emotional wrecks. We found out today that he has a milk protein allergy. I am going to have to put some major dairy restrictions on my diet. We are going to try this for a week and if he doesn't get better we will have to go back in to see the dr. I am just a mess - feeling absolutely horrible that I have been the cause of my baby's pain. We broke down and gave him some soy formula tonight in hopes that he will be able to sleep. He is sleeping now, which is good because I know he must be exhausted.

I promise to catch up, do SOs, and post a pic for the first page as soon as I can. Hope everyone is doing well.

Schedule-Grant is somewhat on a schedule (although I didn't do anything to get him on it) I know that he usually wakes up about 9:30 and then he will eat and take a nap starting around 10:30 and usually sleep for 3-3 1/2 hrs. Then he will go back down around 3:30/4 for an hr or 2. Then he is awake alot during the evening with a short nap around 7 ish then he is down for the night usually around 10:30/11. He will eat at 3/4ish then again around 6 (dh gets up then usually and that will wake him up). I found the same thing happened with ds #1 he naturally fell into a schedula after a couple of months then I would just do small things to adjust it a bit to what worked better for us (ie me :p ). I am a night owl and for a while I had it to where ds #1 would sleep till 11 in the morning, lol. Oh and I wouldn't work too hard on getting a certian schedule because I know IME with ds #1 once you get a used to soemthing it will change (ie dropping a nap time, going to bed earlier).

I think I've read that formula fed babies tend to eat less often (or maybe someone told me that?). Anyways, I agree about the cat naps - the only thing that increases those cat naps into actual naps for us is to put her in the swing.

I am so jealous of your babies that can sleep for extended periods of time. Granted Allison is the youngest of the group but the longest she has ever slept was 3 hours and that has only happened twice. Unfortunately part-time is no longer an option at our company :( Even working from home on set days isn't an option either (even if the baby is in day care).

Schedule - We are night owls, so we give Elizabeth her last bottle between 11:30 and 12:00 and for the last 10 days she's been sleeping anywhere from until 5 or 7:30. For a while we tried putting her down around 9:00 but we spent more time running up and down stairs to tend to her, so she naps down with us in the evening. As for our schedule during the day, we don't really have one. For a while she was eating every 3 hours, but now that she is sleeping so much during the night, she is wanting (or we are presenting) food more often during the day to make sure she gets enough.

I think I jinxed myself today telling everyone at work that she only cries when she is hungry. She's been a wreck since we got home around 6:00. I wonder if it is anything I ate (or drank). Tomorrow we're going to have a low-key day since our routine has been off the last couple of days (yes, we have a routine, just not a schedule!).

I think I've read that formula fed babies tend to eat less often (or maybe someone told me that?).

We are mainly breastfeeding, but DS definitely sleeps longer when he has a little formula at night. The NP told us that breast milk is so perfect that babies bodies tend to use it up pretty efficiently, but formula not so much. Hence, the extra sleepiness. Hope I explained that right, lol. :)

Schedule-David just hit the six week mark, so I am attempting a nightime routine. It really helped DD, but I think we did it when she was a little older. I figure it can't hurt now, right?
Dani has her bath at 6:40 and then we read books and go "night-night". After Dani's bath, I am giving David a bath, giving him a massage, a bottle and then hold him until he falls asleep. I don't want to dry out his skin, so we are only using soap every other day in the bath. After he goes to sleep, he will sleep anywhere from 2 hours-4 hours before eating. DH will do the first feeding and then come to bed. I get up the rest of the night.

Our next step is to try to get him to fall asleep on his own...I am not brave enough to try this yet. Anyone else have babies that can be set down to fall sleep yet?

Ugh. We had such a horrible night last night. Jake refuses to sleep anywhere but in bed with us. Not to mention he eats constantly. He had a full feeding at 8:45, slept for a while on the way home from ILs, and then was up from 10:30 until 1 crying and wanting to eat. He wasn't quiet unless he was on the boob. I was crying right there with him...what happened to my good sleeper??

Question...our ped said that it was normal for him to be congested when he was a newborn b/c babies have small nasal passages (which is why they sneeze a lot). Jake is STILL congested when he first wakes up in the morning. It sounds like he has a cold (although I know he doesn't) for a few minutes until he clears it out and then he breathes normally. Does this happen to any of your babies too?

isaacsmommy

Babylove- He could be going through a growth spurt. I remember with Isaac every so often he'd eat constantly for a couple days then go back to normal. When I say constantly I mean like for HOURS at at time non-stop. Haven't really noticed it with Grant though (of course he definately isn't having any growing problems ;) ).

Congestion/sneezing - Elizabeth still sounds all congested and stuffy and she still sneezes a few times a day. She makes so much noise when she is sleeping because of it, which is part of the reason I don't feel to bad having her sleep in her chair so her head is elevated.

Congestion - yeah, Reagan has that too. I do suction her every now and then if I can see blockage but most of the time I get nothing.

I have a few questions:
1 - When your DC cries, are there tears?
2 - If you have DC in your room (in a crib, bassinet or co-sleeping) when are you planning to move them out of the room?

Oh, I'm so glad that Jake's congestion is normal! Thanks for weighing in!

Tears ~ I have noticed that when Jake really gets revved up with his crying, the area around his eyes looks wet, but no actual tears yet.

congestion - you can hear Allison breathing from miles away, sometimes she even snorts like a pig (despite me letting her know it's not very lady like).

crying tears - usually there are no tears. A couple of nights ago I had to change DS and that's when Allison decided she wanted to eat. Well he ended up leaking so I had to change his clothes etc....basically she had to wait a little while. She went ballistic (I heard cries come out of her that I had never heard before!) and by the time I got back to her she did have a couple tears.

sleeping - We move in 2 weeks! We will try and put her in the crib at that point, right now she's still in our room. It's definitely convenient for feeding/changing, but all of her little noises wake me up so I'm constantly sitting up and looking at her.

Tracee - I'm sure it's just a growth spurt. At least he had SOME good nights though!! I am still waiting for one....yawn.

Tabby is great during the day. It's the late nights that are killing me. She gets super fussy between 1am - 5am. Nothing we do calms her down, she just cries and cries non-stop. Out of desperation, I give her the boob even though she's not hungry. Well, she will suck and cry, such and cry. And often times she will end up having a huge spit-up, or rather vomit I call it. because she overate. Then we get more crying. Yeah, I'm not getting any sleep at night either. And with a toddler, I can't play sleep catch-up during the day either. :( It totally sucks!

Congestion - Tabby is the same way. She sounds like a little piggy with her snorts. I do use nasal drops and try to suction it out with the bulb. She hates that, so I will only do it once in a while.

Tears - Most of the time the cries are tearless. But she has had some pretty tearful cries, like when I try to clear her nose, or when she's not getting the boob fast enough. Her eyes are also watery for some reason.

Sleeping - She's sleeping in our room in the co-sleeper. Sometimes, she will be in our bed. I'm planning to move her to the nursery when she's 3 months. But we need to move DS out of the nursery and into his big boy room first, which isn't even close to being ready yet... :o

congestion - I thought I was the only one w/a very congested baby - I wasn't sure if it had to do w/Ava being born by c-section. I've also been sick so I thought she had caught my cold. She had a tiny fever so I called the pediatrician on-call service this morning and no one ever bothered to call me back...nice. :(
She's also sneezing 5 or 6 times a day and coughs occasionally.

I find myself checking to make sure she's breathing throughout the night. Does anyone else do that?

sleeping - I knew the 5-7hrs stretches of sleeping were too good to be true - she must have just been teasing us...little stinker. she usually sleeps in the bassinet next to our bed but after her 3am feeding lately she doesn't like to go back to sleep and has been sleeping on Daddy or the papasan swing.

Ava is beginning to focus on her swing and the mirror and toys above her - she always has this face when she looks at them:

Amy - What a cutie! Reagan just stares at the swirlies and mirror on the swing. She has this little "pondering" look on her face - but Ava's face is precious! I have woken myself up a couple times just to check and make sure R is still breathing.

bluhimmy - sometimes when Reagan is fussy I put her on her tummy (on the ground). It has calmed her down more often than not. I do keep a SUPER close eye on her to make sure her breathing is okay. 9 times out of 10 she zonks out on her tummy. I tried moving her one time and woke her up - bad mommy. Maybe you could try some tummy time?

*********
Last night Reagan slept 5.5 hours in her first stretch. I was impressed! After she ate I moved her to her bassinet (from the swing) and she slept 3.5 hours. I'll take it! Tonight we're only putting her in the bassinet - I'm hoping she sleeps well in there. I want to start weaning her from the swing at night. She's sleeping better and longer now, we don't need the swing like we did when she was younger.

tears - no real tears yet, but her eyes do get wet after a real meltdown.

sleeping - We have to wean her off the chair before we can even contemplate moving her out of our room! I feel like such a bad parent having her sleep there all night, but 'don't wake a sleeping baby' always is in the back of my mind. She is a pretty light sleeper so the move to the bassinet would wake her and it would be impossible to get her back down. Also I found when we did have her try to sleep in the bassinet (granted she was a week old) I was so much more nervous and didn't get any sleep because in her swaddle it seemed hard to keep her on her back. At least in the chair I know she hasn't toppled over and the loud noises she makes at least let me know she's alive.
When I told DH that the recommendation was for her to be in our room for six months he wasn't too kean on the idea - we'll see what the pediatrician says. I am thinking at least 3 months.

I tried the Avent bottles (with newborn nipples) again after 5 weeks. She's outgrowing her preemie (not that she was a preemie) bottles so I want to try them again before investing in additional regular size bottles. Again, she spit up almost the whole meal (just as we were walking out the door to go to dinner, necessitating mommy and baby to completely change) but we are going to try again tomorrow. She just wasn't burping for us today so I think that was it more than the flow of the nipple (she wasn't gagging like 5 weeks ago).

Hi ladies! Haven’t been here in 2 weeks, I think. I can’t believe it. I think I am just now coming out of the "foggy sleepy yet awake mode." I know you all know what I’m talking about. It sounds like everyone is doing good and settling in with their new little ones. I really love the pics of all the babies. I hope you all post more!

Sophie is 2 ½ weeks old now. At her 2 week checkup she weighed 7 lbs 2 oz, which exceeds her birth weight of 6 lbs 14 oz and her weight when leaving the hospital of 6 lbs 8 oz. So far she’s a really good baby. She’s not too fussy, she sleeps well for the most part, and she latched on immediately. However, we do have some issues with the latch on the left boob (have no idea why) and she only eats for a max of 15 mins at a time (although dr. says it's because she's an "efficient" eater ... but it still takes an hr after diaper changes, etc every feeding!). She was really fussy 3 nights in a row. I finally figured out she had really bad gas, apparently from what I was eating. I felt bad about that, and I felt really bad that it took me 2 days to figure out that I should give her Mylicon … that fixed her gas pretty quick! She’s definitely more alert every day. Today she was up for at least 4 or 5 hours in 2 - 3 hr stretches. That seems like a lot to me.

DH is amazing. He changes her diaper and burps her when I change sides feeding her every time he’s home when it’s time for these things to be done. He holds her if I’ve held her for a while. He plays with her. He cuddles with her. He sings to her and rocks her. He’s just really great and a huge help. I can’t even imagine doing all this without him. I’m very lucky! Sounds like you all have great DHs also!

QOTD – When you girls were feeding early on (say like at 2 or 3 wks old), did you wake your DC to eat? My dr. says I should never let Sophie sleep longer than 3 hrs without waking her to eat. Others say never wake a sleeping baby b/c if she is sleeping she’s probably not hungry. Also – when your DC falls asleep during a feeding, how do you wake her up? For the life of me, I canno wake her!!

I’ve been following my drs. orders until last night. I’ve been waking Sophie to eat but it’s been trying because she’ll only eat for a few minutes and then she falls asleep. I can’t wake that child .period. once she falls asleep. So it makes feeding time really hard in the evenings. So last night I followed the “never wake a sleeping child” thought and she slept 4 hrs at a time. Well, I actually woke her after 4 hrs b/c I did read never to let a BF baby go more than 4 hrs between feedings b/c it can cause them to become lethargic and then too tired to eat.

Catching up now....

Loud sleeper – I’m with you girls! Sophie grunts like a pig sometimes (K&H – our girls have something in common here even if Sophie is older LOL!). DH wants to move DD into her room, but I told him I wasn’t doing that unless he was going to go get her and bring her to me for all the feedings! Plus, go check on her if we are worried from one of her sounds. He vetoed that idea.

Former QOTD – Sophie is 2 ½ weeks old and we are doing tummy time with her, talking to her, and playing patty cake. I wasn’t sure what else you can do with a newborn that can’t totally focus on things yet. Not sure why we haven’t read to her. We will now! She can already push herself up a little bit on her activity mat and she can hold her head up and move it around when on our shoulders. She seems pretty strong already.

Can you please put this pic of Sophie up on page 1 … thank you!!

Amyinla – I love that picture collage you made of Ava. Are you using it for your baby announcement? I really like the heart in the middle! I particularly love the photo with Ava’s tongue sticking out. We had our newborn pics taken yesterday and I really hope our photographer snapped a shot of Sophie sticking her tongue out. I assume those are pro shots? The last pic you posted of Ava is too cute. Looks like she is starting to be a lot of fun!

Babylove – There were a few days where Sophie was so loud like you describe of Jake. It would freak me out a little because I thought she was really upset. So I’d get up and walk to her pack n play and what do you know? She was sleeping! She’s calmed a little but if it starts up again I’ll probably move her to her room. I’m just wondering – won’t we still hear our DC via the baby monitor?

JenniferH – Your kids are soooo cute! I think they look alike!

Jesseybell – I have a friend whose DD will only sleep in the swing during the day. Sounds like your DD! She sleeps 7 or 8 hrs at night in her crib, but when the sun comes up .. she’ll only sleep in the swing. Hope it helps to know you aren’t the only one. I wonder why that is? I hear you on the going back to work thing. I’ve been feeling the same way lately. I’ll only be working 3 days per week, and because I want to … maybe that wasn’t a good idea. One of my friends told me that daycares don’t pick up babies when they cry – ever – they just let them cry. Really?? I hope that isn’t true because I’m really upset about that. You and I can be sad together. I hope I’m not making a mistake by going back to work even if it is only PT. BTW - We use Dr. Brown bottles and they seem to work really well. She doesn't spit up much at all.

Ajlanden – What a beautiful family!

Isaacsmommy – Oh so what you have a chubby little baby! Makes for cuter cheeks and a more precious smile.

Chimichanga – I seriously laughed out loud about your DH and the wipes. Really! In fact, I had to read it to my DH so he would know that I’m not the only one who is annoyed when the wipes container is left open. I think your vent is a valid one! LOL!

Q1 – Fortunately, DD doesn’t cry often. When she does, there are no tears.
Q2 – We plan to move her out of room around 4 wks, maybe 6 wks if for some reason she isn’t sleeping well. I think I read 6 wks is optimal if you are BFing so I may shoot for that. Not sure.

K&H – OMG!! Your diaper story is too funny. I loved it!! I am still laughing out loud about your story and Chimis! Unfortunately, I’m the one that is more likely to make that mistake. HA! (haven’t yet though, thankfully!). Sophie is like Allison with the eating and the sleeping. But, I think that’s because we are BFing. I’ve read and dr. confirmed that formula fed babies eat less often b/c formula isn’t broken down as quickly as breast milk. That’s why BF babies are hungrier more often and eat every 2 – 3 hrs while formula fed eat every 4 or so. I was very tired until the last 2 or 3 days b/c she finally ate well and quickly in the middle of the night and went right back to sleep so it didn’t take a full hr each time I fed her. BF is hard, even when babies eat well! I’ve been topping her off with a bottle (with breast milk) right before bed and she’s been sleeping longer. I guess the extra ½ oz – 1 oz really fills her up at night! You might try that. Seems to work for us. ps- glad you are still here in this thread. I thought you were moving to the Sept mommies thread.

UTChick – Oh, don’t feel bad … you didn’t know! A friend of mine has her baby on soy formula and it worked wonders for her DDs gas, stomach issues, and all around fussiness. I know you aren’t strictly doing soy, but just thought I’d tell you that.

tgoody ~ Re: waking baby to eat...my ped's advice, which I have been following, was to wake Jake to eat at night only until he reached/exceeded his birth weight, which he did at his 2 week appt. I think the concern is that with BF babies, you don't really know how much they are getting in the beginning so it's important to wake baby to eat every 2-3 hours. After he reached his birth weight, the ped said to let Jake sleep at night, but definitely wake him to eat during the day. The theory is that the baby must learn that day time is for eating and night for sleeping. So, once he hit his birth weight, I let him sleep at night and he would go 3, 4, sometimes 5 hour stretches without waking to eat. HTH! And yes, you definitely will hear the snorting thru the monitor. The one night Jake slept in his crib, we heard every peep through the monitor.

sleep- Kai sleeps in a bassinet next to our bed. We plan on moving him to his crib at 3 months.

congestion- Our kiddo has this, too. It seems to be getting better, though.

I find myself checking to make sure she's breathing throughout the night. Does anyone else do that?

I do that too if DS is sleep for a long (read: 5 hour) stretch. I guess at this point, having the chance to get some rest feels unusual... lol.

I do that too...either touch him to see if he reacts (he always does) or put my finger under his nose. :o But usually, he's grunting so loudly in his sleep that I don't have to! LOL!

***

Last night was a HUGE improvement sleepwise. Jake took a bottle of EBM from DH at 8:30, stayed up and was very alert and content until 10:30 when I rocked him to sleep. I put him in his crib (with the hair dryer "music" playing) and he slept soundly until 1:10. Then he ate and went back down in his crib until 4:10, ate again and slept in his crib until 7:20. Now he is napping in his crib...did you get the idea that he slept IN HIS CRIB! :D Yay!

tgoody - good for Sophie gaining so much weight!! I never woke Reagan to eat at night. She gained plenty of weight in one week (I think she was back to her birth weight) so the doctor wasn't too concerned. Reagan likes to fall asleep while on the boob too. I tickle her tummy and feet, stroke her cheek and "jiggle" her chin. She'll wake up and nurse again. Also - maybe let Sophie cry a bit longer before you feed her. I used to jump up and feed R right away when she made a noise. She'd eat for maybe 10 minutes and fall back asleep. While I don't ignore her and make her wait an hour, I let her get a good cry in (also so I make sure she's really awake and hungry) then I feed her. She eats for longer periods and then sleeps for longer periods. :)

jesseybell - sorry to hear the Avent bottles aren't really working out for E. Is she crying a lot before feeding? My doctor said if Reagan gets so worked up, she'll swallow a lot of air which means she'll spit up a lot.

babylove - yay for Jake sleeping in his crib!! :D I can't wait to start putting Reagan in her crib for sleep.

**********
Last night we put Reagan in the bassinet - no swing at all. She did well. She slept from 10-2:30 and then got up to eat. She woke up again at 4 and then 7:30. I think with the 4 a.m. feeding - I didn't let her wake up enough at 2:30. She was pretty sleeping when I changed her and she only nursed for about 10 minutes and then was out.

All in all though, she did well in the bassinet. I'm hoping it's not "beginners luck"! She did nap for about 2 hours in her swing downstairs - I'm fine with that. As long as at night she sleeps in the bassinet. I do think she was fussy last night though; I heard her punching the bassinet sides.

Today we have our baptism meeting - I'm very excited for that.

tgoody - Sophie is so cute, she looks like she is smiling in that picture! I actually tried to have DH give her a bottle of EBM last night but it didn't work. We need to get some slow flow nipples because she was gagging and choking on the bottle we have. She was up ALL night too!! Yep I figured I would just stay in this thread although I lurk on the Sept. thread!

Amy - Ah, Ava is so cute! I used to check to see if my first baby was "alive" all of the time!!! With the last two I got the angelcare monitor and it has made life a lot easier!

Tracee - ya for Jake sleeping in his crib!!

**********************************

I am tired! Allison ate at 11:30, 2:30, 4:30, 6:00 and then DS woke up at 6:30. UGH!!!!!!!! At least she ate and went back to sleep but still, I was tired. Then at the 2:30, when I put her back down, as soon as I was about to fall sleep she exploded in her pants. I was just going to say "forget it" she'll be up in another hour but I felt horrible thinking that so I changed her. She doesn't care if she sits in poop all day - neither did my other kids. Funny how some babies mind and others don't.

I had one of those 'do I really need to change her if she isn't crying moments' last night at 1:30, just as I had gotten her all swaddled up. I just couldn't do it, knowing she'd be sitting in it for up to 7 hours....or she'd wake up earlier than normal to be changed.

We had our baptism class yesterday - what a total waste of time! And add to that the fact we didn't know how long it would be (almost 3 hours) and I only brought a 3 ounce bottle of formula for Reagan. She was so fussy and hungry - poor girl! I had to take her and nurse her in the basement. Then she was up all.freaking.night! She didn't go to bed until 11, then was up at 12, 3, 5, 6, 7 - you get the picture. She was eating at each time. I finally got her down for a bit to get some sleep.

Chimichanga - Sounds like Reagan is having her 6-week growth spurt. Elizabeth was feeding like crazy yesterday. I was getting a little worried if I would have enough for her or if we would have to end up supplementing. I usually have excess during the day in case of emergencies. Not yesterday! It was all used up.

Speaking of which, gotta run and pump so we don't fall behind.

Chimi - Thanks for the suggestion on tummy. Unfortunately, she hates tummy time. It's also strange that she doesn't really like to sleep on our chest either. DS loved that as a baby.

QTOD - I'm wondering how many mommies are swaddling their little ones. DS hated being swaddled as a baby. Not sure what the verdict is on DD yet. Up until a couple nights ago, she's been swaddled nightly. She screams bloodly murder when I'm swaddle her, but she does that still when I don't. I can't decide whether to continue to swaddle or not...

swaddling - We swaddle Elizabeth every night using the miracle blanket. She loves to flail her arms and kick her legs. If we didn't swaddle her she'd never be able to sleep. We've never tried not doing it at night. We'll continue until at least 3 months.

Elizabeth hates tummy time, but she loves sleeping on our chests and I actually put her down on her tummy in her CRIB today while i was trying to organize all the clothes we've gotten for her. I checked on her continuously but she absolutely loved sleeping that way. I know she'll be one of those kids that as soon as she can roll over that's the way she'll want to sleep.

We swaddle, but I definately think that he sleeps longer swaddled. I probably wouldn't do it if I didn't see a difference in sleep.

Tummy Time-I am trying to be religious was tummy time, although he doesn't like it much. I didn't do much with DD because she hated it and it only got worse as she got older. I am thinking that if I keep at it with David, he will learn to like it!

I took Grant to his 2 month wbv today. He weighed 14 lbs (okay so I was off a bit on my estimate, guess my scale sucks) and was 23 3/4 inches long and his head was 16 in. The percentiles were 90 something for weight, 76 for length and 60 for head circ. Overall he looks awesome they said, the np said he was like a 4 mth old both in size and development, lol. He got his shots and barely even cried, only for about 3 seconds after the 3rd one. He was so brave :D . He then proceeded to sleep most of the day.

Swaddling We do at night, he will usually bust out after a while though.

tummy time- Grant likes it and loves to nap that way (with supervision of course). Isaac has been a tummy sleeper since he could roll over, I suspect Grant will be the same.

Jen ~ Big boy! I'm dying to see what Jake weighs now but his 2 month visit isn't for another month! I bet he will be in the same range as Grant. :)

Swaddling ~ We did for the first 2 weeks but he HATES it now. I mean HATES it. He screams like we are torturing him and fights to get out. It doesn't calm him down the way it did before. I guess he's just not a swaddler.

Tummy Time ~ I try to do it a few times a week. He's not into it. But he has really good head and neck control so I'm not so concerned.

***

We did our first baby yoga class today (Itsy Bitsy Yoga). It was sort of a bust. The timing was bad w/ his feeding schedule today and he was asleep when we got there so he didn't much appreciate being manhandled by mommy while he was trying to nap. Not to mention, DH locked my keys in my car last night so we were late to class....since I didn't realize it until I was walking out the door to leave. :rolleyes: I hope yoga will be better next week.

We just got back from the doctor :( Reagan was throwing up today (three times) and just totally fussy all day. It freaked me out since she hasn't thrown up like that before.

The doctor said to keep an eye on her and if she throws up again to take her to the hospital for x-rays. Of course now she's just sitting contently in her swing. :rolleyes:

She is up to 11 pounds and 10 ounces now - up more than a pound in two weeks. I just hope we get a better night of sleep tonight. I can see she's getting bags under her little eyes :(

I'm still alive! :) Mia is a wonderful baby. She sleeps well (if you consider 3-4 hours stretches well :p). She is now 2 weeks and 2 days old. I can't believe how fast time flies by! Seems like yesterday....

We had her 2 week WBV today. Here are the stats:

21 1/8 inc (up from 20 3/4 in)-- 75%
9lbs 4.5 oz (up from 8lbs 2oz at birth and 7lbs 10oz at discharge)-- 75%
14in head circumference-- 45%

I've got a chunky butt on my hands!! She's gained about a pound and a half in less than 2 weeks!! :eek:

Other than that, she's doing great. BFing is going well, sleep is okay, and she's more alert these past 2 days than ever before. She's started this cute little 'cry' that sounds more like wa-ah and then silence. Too funny.

I'll be back to post a recent picture of her for the front page!

This is us, too. The nurses always swaddled Kai in the hospital. so we've been doing it too because it really helps him to sleep. Swaddling also calms him down when he's fussy. Experts say it imitates the womb when it's done right.

3 weeks tomorrow!

We had newborn pics taken on Friday. They turned out really well. I only get pics I buy (no negatives) so I can only scan those in once I get them. Anyway, I am really pleased with the pics and can’t wait to show you girls!

Am I the only person whose pediatrician does not measure head, length, etc. until the 2 month WBV? He also doesn’t compare weight to the percentages until then. Is this weird?

Sophie is mighty fussy today. Every time I put her down to sleep, she wakes up and starts crying until I pick her up. She’s never done this before. It’s kinda sweet that she wants me to hold her, but on the other hand it’s now 9:45 pm and this has been going on since early a.m. I’m just wondering if this is going to stop before I go to bed. Any thoughts?

QOTD – Are any of you keeping the bumpers in your crib once DC starts sleeping in there? I’ve heard you can and you shouldn’t … and all my friends have left the bumpers in. Recent books I have read, including one by the Academy of Pediatrics given to me by my pediatrician, just say no loose blankest, but don’t say anything about bumpers.

-------------------------
QOTD – We swaddle Sophie every night. She sleeps so well swaddled. It’s odd, during the day she can sleep un-swaddled but not at night. Sometimes I leave her arms out when I swaddle her … just depends if before I fed her and re-swaddled her if she was wiggling to get them out or not. Plus, we can’t really use the receiving blankets people gave us b/c they seem to small. We use the ultimate swaddling blanket or the hospital blankets to swaddle. Plenty of room in those!

babylove – After asking around some, I’ve found that the advice you told me that your pediatrician gave about waking a baby is more common than my pediatrician saying don’t wake. I wonder why my dr. is different about everything? I’m not sure I’m fond of this dr., but he came so highly recommended by a lot of people. I read in one of your posts that you have hair dryer music. Do you have a white noise machine or something like that (I might have missed a previous post). Congrats on the sleep getting better and Jake sleeping in the crib! Ah, these milestones we live for these days! Question – if you still hear all the noises, what is the benefit of putting Jake in his crib to sleep now vs. like at 3 mos (really just wondering for my own benefit b/c I’m thinking of putting Sophie in her crib earlier rather than later as well)?

Chimi – I have tried all those techniques to wake Sophie to eat … and I’ve even done the wet washcloth on the forehead and feet … nothing wakes her to eat once she’s decided to sleep. I’ve just been putting her to sleep if I can’t get her to eat any more. She feels heavier to me and her cheeks are definitely chubbier so I assume she’s gaining weight and eating enough throughout the day. I do like your idea about letting her cry a little longer … but she really doesn’t cry … she just makes grunting noises. And, until about 2 nights ago, she wasn’t making any noise, I was waking her. Maybe I’ll let her grunt a little more so she’s more awake when I feed her. Good idea! I’ll let you know how that works. Glad to hear Reagan is feeling better!

K&H – I love that picture of Sophie b/c she’s smiling! Can she really be smiling from gas? I’d like to think it’s just b/c she’s happy! Sophie couldn’t eat with a bottle at first either. But, she can now … and she eats really well. It was a little frustrating to see how well she eats from the bottle and how fast … all I could think of when we were feeding her from the bottle was “wow! If I fed her like that at night I could be back to sleep in 20 mins!.” We use Dr. Brown’s bottles and they seem to work well. Glad you stayed in this thread! And, Allison is so adorable! She looks so alert. I love the picture! Allison’s 2 week appointment is tomorrow? Was she born a whole week after Sophie?

Bluhimmy – Once she is swaddled, does she stop screaming? Sometimes Sophie cries while I’m swaddling her, but she always stops once I’m done.

Jesseybell – I am reading “The Happiest Baby on the Block” and Dr. Karp says that babies are soothed when they are laid on their stomachs and sleep better this way … partly b/c that’s how they are in the womb and partly b/c the moro reflex doesn’t occur on their stomachs. So, I’m not surprised Elizabeth liked her tummy time sleep in the crib today. Good to know what this book says is true!

K&H, ajlanden, Camdynlyn – Y’alls babies are sooo cute!! Keep posting pics!

Elizabeth had her tongue-tied cut today. It was quick. I wish I could say it was painless. I couldn't watch, but hearing her scream was bad enough. The doctor gave her Tylenol and we've been giving her more every 3-4 hours. It could be a long night. Now she can stick her tongue out really far.

cribs - we're not anywhere near the point of putting Nora in her crib by herself - it's mainly baby storage right now. :p Our plan is just a sheet and nothing else. Some say you can use the mesh bumpers, but I've never seen anyone really advocating using the regular bumpers. I believe current SIDS research (http://www.sids.org/nprevent.htm) advises against anything in the crib.

2. Place infants to sleep in a baby bed with a firm mattress. There should be nothing in the bed but the baby - no covering, no pillows, no bumper pads and no toys. Soft mattresses and heavy covering are associated with the risk for SIDS.

jessey - ah, poor elizabeth, I hope she's back to her normal self soon.

Hmmmm... I didn't know bumpers were so iffy. I'm definitely rethinking mine now, even though DS won't be sleeping in his crib for a while.

tgoody ~ We don't have a white noise machine, we have an iPod w/ speakers and we play a CD called For Crying Out Loud (Amazon.com), which has 8 or 9 different white noise type sounds (hair dryer, washing machine, rain, waves, maternal heartbeat). We play the hair dryer all night long....Re: your ped, you don't always have to follow your peds advice if you disagree. You are the mommy afterall! ;) But if you find yourself disagreeing with his advice a lot, I would find a new ped. We moved Jake into his own room b/c he wasn't even sleeping in his cradle, he was sleeping in his bouncey chair...I didn't want to get that habit started and not be able to break it. And as far as the noises, since we rock him to sleep and put him in his crib asleep (oy, another habit we'll have to deal with later!), he doesnt make the noises. Besides, we can always turn down the sound on the monitor since it's a video monitor! LOL!

bumpers - we have ours in the crib still, but Reagan isn't sleeping in there yet. I do have a sleep postioner that prevents her from rolling. so, if she works well with that, I'll probably keep the bumpers up since she won't be rolling.

We were *supposed* to have our 2 month visit today (yes, a bit early). We get to the doctor and the nurse comes out and says they won't give her the shots yet because she's too young. She said the nurse should have never scheduled this appointment in the first place and we'd need to reschedule.

My peeve is: why didn't they call us BEFORE we packed Reagan into her car seat (and the lovely tantrum associated with that), restocked the diaper bag and drove to the office?

Here are her one month photos:

Allison had her 2-week appointment today (even though she's 2 1/2 weeks). She weighs 9 pounds 13 ounces, up a pound and 4 ounces from birthweight. Go momma's milk! Everything else looked great.

We close on our house on Friday and move next weekend. THANK GOODNESS!! I am so excited to get into that house. Next week we will paint and rip the entire downstairs flooring out and install hardwood (well industrial laminate). Busy, busy!

tgoody Am I the only person whose pediatrician does not measure head, length, etc. until the 2 month WBV? He also doesn’t compare weight to the percentages until then. Is this weird?

My doctor doesn't measure the length until the 2 month visit either. The two week visit doesn't really let you know if your baby has grown or not. Birth measurements vary depending on who is doing the measuring. I could measure a baby and someone else could measure the same baby and the baby could differ by an inch or so. Plus with coneheads shrinking down by 2 weeks....some poor parents think their babies have shrunk! ;) Allison might be a week younger than Sophie - she was born on a Saturday??

bumpers - well we won't have a nursery until next week (can't wait to show you girls pictures when I finally have one) but when it's time to go in the bed we will have them. I had them with my other two as well. We have a sleep positioner to keep the babies in the middle of the bed so they don't roll around and get up against the bumper.

Adorable pictures of Reagan, Mia and David!!!

K&H's mommy Sounds like Allison is growing well! Yay for getting your house soon!

jesseybell Poor Elizabeth! I hope she is feeling better today.

bumpers We have them on E's crib, but right now she is only sleeping in it for an occasional nap. I'm not sure what we will do once she is rolling around more. It makes me nervous, so we will probably take them off.

swaddling We do swaddle E, but she HATES to have her hands wrapped up so we leave her arms out. She does sleep much better and longer when she is swaddled.

tears Yes, E always cries tears. In fact, when they finally got her crying after she was born the nurses were asking each other if someone had put ointment in her eyes. Nope, they were tears! I guess it is uncommon for them to have tears so early. It is really heartbreaking for me to see tears rolling down her little face.

our thread Personally, I would rather not merge threads. I have a hard enough time keeping up with this one!

We had a 3 week check up with our midwife last week. E was up to 10 lbs 6 oz! That is 1.75 lbs up from her birthweight. :) We discussed birth control, and I think we have decided to use the mini-pill, Micronor. Does anyone have any experiece with this? If you don't mind sharing, what is everyone else using for birth control?

I tried to go to a LLL meeting on Monday. I packed up E, drove 20 minutes to get there, then walked all of the way through the hospital only to find out that it had been cancelled. :( Very frustrating! I was hoping that they could help us. We have been trying to wean off of the nipple shield. Last weekend E was nursing on the bare breast about 50% of the time, but now everytime we try she latches wrong. It is so painful. So, we are back on the nipple shield all of the time now.

I have to go back to work in 2 weeks. I am really dreading it. She will not be little for very long, and I am sad that I will be missing out on so much.

I had my 6 week check up today. I have the green light for ALL activities. Yeah for being able to go to the gym and yeah for DTD!!!! We need to buy condoms though. I am not taking any risks until I've been on the pill for a month. I got a prescription for Micronor as well. Whenever I stop exclusively pumping I can just call and get a prescription for the full pill.

My plan is to take the Pill until May/June and start trying for #2 in July. I know, can't believe I am even thinking about that already! She did a Pap. Hopefully in a year when I am due for another one I'll already be pregnant again.

It was weird to go to the doctor's and not have to pee in a cup. But also have to strip down naked. I was the same weight as my 10 week appointment (except I had drunk a ton of water because I didn't know if I needed to pee in a cup or not, plus I was wearing jeans and a big ol' belt so really I weigh a little less). The internal exam was quite painful. But everything looked good.

Elizabeth's tongue - She is doing fine. We gave her a couple doses of Tylenol last night and then she slept like she normally does. She has been a tiny bit fussy today (luck Grandma who was babysitting her) but overall she is fine.

Sabriel-Two more weeks? Try to enjoy them and not think of going back. I know that the anticipation of going back was horrible for me. I know exactly how you are feeling!

Jessey-I am glad Elizabeth is doing okay. It is amazing how resiliant babies are!

Chimi-Reagan is so cute! I love the one of her laying on her belly with the black around her.

Birth Control-I am back at work, so have stopped BFing. I am trying the Nuva Ring. So far, so good!

Bumpers-We had one in with DD, but used a sleep positioner for a long time. I don't know what we will do this time. I just got Dani into a big girl bed, so I need to get some new bedding. David will be in the PNP for awhile yet though.

Q-Anybody DTD yet? Just wondering how it was? After DD, it hurt me so bad. This time, it was fine. I don't know what the difference was.

David is doing well. Just this past week he has turned into a different baby. He used to be so fussy. Now he is a smiley content baby. He has his second cold of his life. UGHHHH!! DD keeps bringing the germs home from daycare. I am trying to teach her to share, but how can I teach her not to share her colds?

Take care mommies!

Jen, great pics! I'll have to scan the ones we inadvertently had taken of Logan at about a month old. :)

Jessie, hope E is doing ok!

Cherish, dunno what we're doing for BC. I've been walking around with a script for the mini-pill in my purse for a week, but don't know if I'll fill it. I've never been on BCPs before.

Ashley, hurrah for David's personality change! Can you have him baby-radio Logan to tell him it's time to be a happy boy now? :rolleyes:

Sara, yay for that house finally being DONE!!

Gosh darn it, Abby just stuck a straw in Logan's mouth and now he's wailing again. @#$#% Must go.

DTD - I am expecting the worst and hoping for the best. My BFF had a horrible experience the first time with her first kid, but I am hoping since I didn't have a vaginal birth that maybe it won't hurt so bad. Though as I said earlier, the internal was more uncomfortable than normal. The doctor did advise that lubricant would help.

It is so much fun now that Elizabeth is getting a personality as well. She makes these adorable little noises. I never thought that I would be able to distinguish her cries, but we are starting to.

Eyes - Anyone know when their eyes are supposed to change? I think it is genetically impossible that her eyes will stay blue. My MIL is obsessed with her eyes (seeing that she's the only one on both sides with blue eyes) and keeps insisting that they would have changed if they were going to. I thought they could change any time up to a year.

Abby's Mom I have never been on the BCPs before either. I am nervous that there may be side effects.

jesseybell Glad Elizabeth is doing well!

eyes DH and mine are blue, so E's will be blue too. They are really dark and gorgeous right now. :)

Drive-by... Jessie, my DD is 22 months old and her eyes are still changing color. It's super unlikely that E's eyes will stay the color that they are (unless you and your DH both have blue eyes which I guess isn't the case).

Eyes- My ped told me about 6 months you could tell if they were going to change or not. However, ds #1 didn't start to change to about 10/11 months until then they were very blue now they are hazel. Grant's are still blue right now. According to the eye color calculator my kid has a 72.7% chance of brown eyes, and a 13.6% chance for each blue and green. I guess they dont consider hazel an eye color. :confused:

DTD Well, I have (a bunch of times :o ), but I had a c/s. For me it was fine, I was very happy ;) .

Jen ~ How annoying! Those pics are so cute!

Sara ~ I'm so excited for you! A nursery (and a house!) finally! Allison is getting so big!

Cherish ~ I'm sorry that you are having trouble w/ BFing! I hope you can get to a meeting that isn't cancelled soon! I know how hard it is to get out of the house w/ baby in tow!

Jessie ~ Just out of curiosity, why did Elizabeth have that procedure? I was told by the LC at the hospital that Jake is "tongue-tied" as well but no one suggested this procedure. Though we've never had a problem w/ BFing.

Ashley ~ Poor David! I hope he feels better! Dani too!

***

Bumpers ~ Yup. We've got them and they will stay in for a while.

Eyes ~ I don't even think I could identify Jake's eye color...it's hazelish brownish blueish right now. Probably b/c they are starting to change already...But my guess is that he will have brown or hazel eyes. DH and I both have brown eyes.

DTD ~ I have my 6w PP appt on 9/29 and I'm sure I will get the go-ahead at that point...but I think I might put it off. I feel fine "down there" but I'm really nervous about it!

Birth Control ~ Since I'm convinced that the pill is the reason why my body was so screwed up when I tried to get pg, I won't ever be going back on the pill. I'm thinking it's condoms all the way from here on out! After we finish having kids, I'll probably get an IUD. Since I needed help getting pg w/ Jake, my guess is that it probably won't happen too easily this time around...(although I have heard that fertility issues can resolve themselves after pgcy).

DTD: We haven't yet, and I really don't know when we will. My Pap at 6 weeks hurt like heck, and the doc told me that I will need lubricant when we start. I laboured with DD and then had a C-section and it hurt like crazy the first couple of times after having DD. I had hoped that it wouldn't be the same since I just had the c-section this time. I guess that BFing also dries you out and that is what the doc told me.

We plan on using Condoms as I never want to go back on the pill.

Eyes: I was told to wait until after a year. My DD has really blue eyes, and Liam's are a really nice deep blue right now, but I am expecting them to change. Both DH and I have Blue eyes, although his are much nicer!

Bumpers: I have them, but they aren't in just yet, but I did use them with DD. I also have the Angelcare monitor.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jen: Reagan is a cutie!
Ashley: Isn't it funny how they have just all of a sudden changed! Liam is getting a personality too. I hope Dani stops sharing her colds soon!
Sara: I'm so happy you finally get your new house! And I can't wait to see the nursery!
Jessie: Glad Elizabeth is doing better after her tongue tie was clipped.
Cherish: I can't believe you have to go back so soon!
Sherry: I hope that Logan was okay! And that his fussies go away soon for you!
My DH went back to work on Tuesday, so it has been just me and the kiddos since then, it has gone pretty well.
I went to my first Yoga Mama's classe yesterday with Liam and we had a good time, although he is the youngest in the class and got a bit fussy during the class. Ryleigh went to Daycare!
Gotta go, DD is pulling apart my bookshelf and Liam is waking up from his nap!
Hope you are all doing well! Have a great day Mommies!
tongue tied- Elizabeth hasn't had issues with feeding (if she had she would have had the procedure shortly after birth) but a tongue tie CAN affect speech. It doesn't always but by the time you know if it does the child can be 4-5 years old and they have to be put under general anesthesia to have it done. My friend is a speech therapist and she sees this issue all the time. When E had hers done, the doctor had done 6 of them that day. It is amazing the difference I can see in her tongue movement - before she couldn't stick her tongue out of her mouth - she sure can now!!
Eyes - The eye calculator has us at 50% brown, 40% green (my whole family has hazel) and 10% blue.
Wow, as usual, I am SOOOOO behind. I can't believe how difficult it is for me to get online and post these days. I miss posting but I just can't seem to find the time. Ava had her 1 month WBV the day before yesterday and she is up to 9lbs, 10oz! She gained a pound in less than 3 weeks. Yikes!
TGoody - I think you had asked about those pics I posted the other day. Those weren't professional, I was just playing around w/my camera. I'm actually having professional ones done today w/my friend Carrie (Cece)
DTD = lol.
eyes = i think they'll be either blue or hazel/green..probably blue
bumpers = we have them in her crib, she probably won't be sleeping in it for another couple months but we'll keep them in
Such cute pics everyone is posting!
Ava is a cutie :)
I had a 2 hour GTT test to make sure I don't have real diabetes this morning. It went fine - I should get the results in a few days.
Today has been interesting. We're "practicing" having DH be home with Reagan and running the show. I'm around but just for the boob until 5:30 (when i'd normally get home). I haven't helped DH with anything (well, he showered while I was feeding her) and he's done okay. I'm a bit upset that he's been feeding her as soon as she gets up and then putting her down for a nap right away. Not a lot of play time, but I'm not saying anything.
Today I mowed the lawn (had a bit of bleeding) and am cleaning the house from top to bottom. It hasn't been cleaned this well since the week before the c/s.
DTD - we've done it twice since DD. Not bad at all since I had the c/s. We're also using condoms and I'm not going back on the pill. A funny side - if you or your DH buys the condoms at Wal-Mart the receipt just says "condoms" plain as day. DH and I were laughing about that.
Bumpers-We have them, although R isn't in there yet, and I'll probably keep them. We'll see how active he is in there!
DTD-Yup, we waited 11 days. I had a c/s though.
Birth Control- Right now just the dreaded Condoms - which we both despise, so I'll be going back on the pill as long as my doctor gives me the mini. I was on it for 3 years and got pg our first month trying. It worked best for me.
Ryan slept from 11:30-3:30 last night, then didn't wake back up till 6:45. That's the most sleep I've ever gotten!
What size clothes are you all in? R is STILL in Newborn, his 0-3 month stuff is SO large on him, even though he's well over 10lbs now!!! :rolleyes: It's getting chilly here at night now, so I'm going to go have to buy the kid some long sleeved stuff that will fit him b/c everything else is short sleeved since I expected him to be IN the 0-3month by now!! ACK!
Whoops - he's crying now, gotta run! I promise he knows when I'm trying to post!
Reagan is getting almost too big for 0-3 months. I'm starting to wash her 3-6 month clothes. The only thing that's big on her are pants - she's still swimming in 0-3 month pants but tops are getting snug.
jennylou
09-21-2006, 07:25 PM
clothes - Nora is over 10 lbs now and is wearing 0-3's, with a few 3 months thrown in. Some things are big in the 3 months, but I think we're going to end up in them anyways and just roll up the legs since we don't have too many pants in 0-3 and it's getting chilly here. We also didn't expect it to get so cold so quick.
jesseybell
09-22-2006, 07:52 AM
Elizbeth is about 10.5 lbs - she's in some newborn stuff, mainly 0-3, and the Carter's 3 months stuff is a tad big on her but we have some cute 3 month onsies that I want her to wear.
How does the Carter's work?! I was organizing all her clothes yesterday and we have a ton of 3-6 month, some 6-9 and a whole bin of Carter's 6 months - I don't know if I should put them in with the 3-6 or 6-9. I can't figure out when she'll be ready to wear them. Why can't all the manufacturers have the same sizing...but I guess we have the same issue with our clothes.
Chimichanga - Is DH going to be staying home with Reagan? Last weekend I left DH and E for about 4 hours, the first time I had left her with him (opposed to leaving her with my mom). Granted it was a Sunday afternoon and football was on, but yeah, I don't feel that he plays with her that much. He does some. I think he will more once her head is stronger. In the evenings I pretty much let him take care of her and while he does snuggle with her some, it is mainly feeding and changing her and putting her in the PNP/swing/chair the rest of the time or gives her to me. He hasn't gotten the true feeling of not being able to do something because she's fussing, because I am around. While I don't want to leave her for a long time, I don't think he'll truely understand my day until he spends a whole day with her without me. There have been a couple of times he's been trying to make his dinner and she's started fussing and he doesn't get to eat until really late. Welcome to my world honey!
Birthcontrol - Poor DH. Not only could he not find the condoms at the pharmacy so he had to ask, but then they had to do a price check! I guess even at 34 buying them was embarrassing. But he wouldn't buy my lubrication for me so I'll have to pick that up when I fill the prescription for my pill.
I just got Mia down for a nap so I have a few minutes to get on CC. It's amazing that I can check my email and now that I don't have a CC journal, I forget to check it here. I promise to get better.
Mia is doing well. We had a day yesterday, though. She had a major puke that sent us both to get baths and she screamed bloody murder while getting the bath. Then, in my mommy-stuper I put her clothes on her with no diaper. I'm a ditz.
Let's see if I can get caught up...
Bumpers: We've got 12"x2" bumpers that will be staying until she can stand. They don't smoosh and are very thick.
DTD: Not yet, I'm still only 3 weeks PP. I've still got a nice hemmeroid that I'm trying to get rid of before DTD. It's the only thing that hurts still and it's not that bad, just annoying.
New Thread: Nah, I can barely keep up with this one at this time. I know it'll get better once a routine gets set and then when I go back to work.
Birth Control: Still up in the air on this one. I was off birth control for 1.5 months before we started TTC. It wacked out my body. I had been on the pill and then the patch (bad decision). I need to speak with my doc about this issue because I'm not sold on BC. Maybe I'll do the condom thing. Does anyone that charted know when it's okay/safe to start charting again while BFing-- do you just have to wait until I get my period???
Eyes: I have green and Hubby has blue. Mia's are still the deep blue but I think they'll stay blue. My brother and I have green and my mom has green and dad has deep brown so brown wasn't the dominant there.
Well, I broke down and took Jake to the dr this morning (thank god for Saturday office hours!). His congestion has been so bad lately and I really think it contribute to our hellish night last night--he barely slept and every time he conked out his eyes would pop open as soon as I put him down :(
Anyway, dr said she doesn't think he has a cold, it's still just regular newborn congestion. He has no fever or any other symptoms and has had the congestion for long enough that if it was a cold, it would have progressed by now. So we bought him a cool mist humidifier and will continue w/ the saline drops before eating and bedtime...my poor baby is so stuffed!
The highlights of the appt...
(1) His weight is up to 11 lbs 10 oz!!! Up almost 3 whole lbs in 3.5 weeks! :eek: (he was 8 lbs 14oz at his 2week appt)
(2) When the dr took his rectal temp, he projectile pooped and it flew across the room and hit my mom!! :D
Babylove - OMG!! That is too funny about the poop. Well, not funny for your mom though. She'll have a great blackmail story! :)
jesseybell - yeah, DH will be home with R three days a week. He'll have to work on one of them, but it's not an intensive work; and as long as he gets 40 hours a week it's fine. I'm sure he'll do more with her, but for now I'll just let it go.
We tried hitting rummage sales today; one advertised Gap and Gymboree clothes with the tags on. I got there 30 minutes after it started and there were hardly any clothes. :( Ehh - my mom hits the rummages enough for me so Reagan has about 40 different outfits already in the 3-6 month size range.
She's been down for two three hour naps already today. I know she'll be awake most of the afternoon but hopefully she'll sleep well tonight (like last night).
I've noticed she doesn't always focus on the person who is talking to her - does anyone else's DC do that? It's upsetting at times - she doesn't just stare into momma's eyes and I want her to.
