Who we are:
We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.

We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

Known issues: I tend to gain in my thighs and lower abdomen area. I've always had a lot of issues with eating and unhealthy eating habits-skipping meals. I also have guilt when I eat. It's really, really hard for me to write that. But I get mad at myself for not being able to control my hunger. We eat out every night with the rare exception I cook at home. We also travel a lot and I indulge on a little here and there and don't make working out a priority during travels. That written, I don't eat a lot at a time, and I am not considered overweight for my age/height. Still, I have put on about 10 pounds and they are not of muscle. I can hide them and most people couldn't tell the difference outwardly, but I know they are there! I'd like to lose them or turn them into muscle!
Current Weight: 117 as of the other day when I was weighed at the doctor's office. My "normal" weight is 105. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal and honestly, numbers are not important to me. I just want to be toned up again and look like I did in June!

I've had serious problems with (stupid) injuries this summer. I've fallen twice on my skates scraped myself up badly. The 2nd time was 2 weeks ago & I'm still dealing with a mess above my left hip (3" diameter, tenuous scab that broke open again on Sat) & a gigantic swollen bruise below my left hip. Not condusive to staying on a workout schedule but I'm trying. I've also been on a gummy-fruit kick for the past several weeks. I know they're disgusting but they've been a quick fix for a sweet tooth. Sheesh, it's like quiting cigs.

This is so frustrating. I have been working out a lot more then I ever did. I even signed up for my first triathalon October 1st!!! I know my problem is all with food though. I make stupid choices - like buying full size candy bars from Costco. I vow to be better for this challenge and see what happens!

I don't know how you're going about losing the weight, but I've found FitDay.com to be really, really helpful in maintaining a low-calorie diet. After all, it comes down to needing to expend more calories than you take in, and if I'm not tracking my calories, I'm very likely to gain weight (as I found out this past year :rolleyes: ). Anyway, it's a free website, and you can track your foods and your activities on there so you really know what's going on with your caloric intake. :)

Ideas to avoid snacking at night watching tv...
* Paint your fingernails.. can't eat while they are drying, right?
* Brush your teeth right after supper... food won't be as tempting
* Drink herbal tea (or light hot cocoa) instead... I like sleepytime tea w/a little sugar
* knit, crochet, sew, while watching tv
* or just don't watch tv! :p

Re: snacking - one thing I do sometimes is measure out one serving of whatever snack I want, and put it on a plate or in a bowl. That helps me limit myself. I also make sure to drink a big glass of water or diet iced tea with any snack, so that I'm more full afterwards. I also give myself regular manicures in front of the TV.
P.S. I'm confused. I joined late, so do I wait until after this weekend to weigh in? Because my weight now is just my starting weight.

Thank you for the "snack avoidance" suggestions... I tried a couple last night (brushed my teeth and did Sudoku puzzles) and it really helped. Must keep that up as 8pm to bedtime is my dire time!
However... first week on WW, as usual, produced a great result:
Week 1: -2.8
Now I just have to keep that up which will be tricky as I'm going out of town for work and that means hotel food - argh! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
No weight loss for me this week, despite diet and exercise. I wasn't great on Thursday, and Aunt Flo is here, so I'm chalking it up to that. Still bummed, though. :(

Actually, I think I cheated myself here....my starting weight should really be 171.6. I looked at my WW membership card, and that was my weight on 9/2, and I had my most recent weigh in yesterday. So I guess I really am -2.4 . for this week. I am not sure where I got 170 from? :confused:
Either way, it's a loss, so that's good.
Yesterday was hard though---we went to a huge cookout at DH's former boss's house. New week of Flex points just started up for me yesterday, and I dipped into them big time for the cookout. And I don't even feel like I ate that much there! Too much picking & nibbling at chips, though. My weakness. :(

I have recently started to try to build up my endurance to jog though. I already speedwalk but I found out that's a far cry from jogging. I jogged 7 minutes and speedwalked 33 minutes last Thursday and I sure was feeling it. Today I jogged 12 minutes and speedwalked 24 minutes. We'll see in a little bit how my muscles are feeling. Something's got to work.

While I am still going in the right direction, things have definitely slowed down for me. The weight isn't coming off as easily as it was at first. I think it is time to me more restrictive. I have been snacking a lot more and going out on the town more. I really really want to break 140. I do not think I have been that low for over 10 years. These last 5 pounds have been in place since 1996 and are not in a hurry to get lost...so I am going to need to "encourage" them a little more!

I've been walking 4-5 times a week (30-40mins) but know I need to increase that. It is all on steep incline, I live in a mountainous area. I'm thinking I may need to start up my gym membership again though, hit the treadmill so I can run - can't handle running outside with these hills.
I'm open to any kind of exercise suggestions - in a rut here! TIA.

Well, my general routine sucks, since I have no motivation to exercise regularly, but I can say that I've found yoga to be an excellent way to shake things up. I hate weight training, and yoga takes the place of that nicely, plus it works all of your core muscles, and it's relaxing while still being tiring. A lot of places have drop-in classes, where you can pay as you go or buy a pass for a certain number of classes at once.
My exercise routine currently is that I do cardio twice a week -- either running or biking or elliptical, and I do Ashtanga yoga three times a week. Ashtanga's a "strong" practice, which means it's very good for strength training and it's pretty aerobic as well. I love it. :)
I need to increase my cardio, but right now this is what I can handle w/my schedule.
Oh -- DH and I also go for a 30 minute walk most evenings.

Well, I haven't done that great either the last week and a half, but I try to do the elliptical at least 30 minutes a day (even if I have to break it into 2 15 minute sessions). I nanny a 6mo part time, so when I'm laying on the floor playing I'll do some crunches. My body responds the very best when I change things up a few times a week (ie. do an exercise video, walk, do some freeweights) but I haven't been doing that as much lately

My BF is out of town and that must be why I am losing the weight. I don't really eat a big dinner when he is gone, more just snacking. I try to make breakfast and lunch my larger meals. Seems like it worked this week. Now if I can just keep this up, I will be much happier!!

Thanks I figured if you're loosing you're red, if you're at 0 its green, and if you're up you're blue. At my old ww they would write on your book red if you lost and blue if you gained and I always worked so much harder the next week if I got a blue.
I thought we could give it a try since I was bored
Naamah for the other updates if it changes from blue to green or to red you just have to type the name of the " color " in quotes.

I have a question: How do you all deal with "mandatory" eating out? I generally have at least one meal per week that's more or less out of my control, and I find it'll screw up my weight for at least a day or two afterwards. Any suggestions?
Threadmistress: My stats are wrong - I should be at -1 for total weight loss. Sorry to bug you, but I really want that red number! :)

PG: I'm terrible; I usually end up eating what I shouldn't. But I do make a concerted effort to eat small portions. Conversation usually forces me to eat slowly and feel full. I consider when looking at the menu exactly how much of the meal I will eat, and usually stop around half-way through. It's so sad how much food gets wasted.
I can't believe I forgot last week. Totally forgot to even get on the scale. I've since been fluctuating by at least 5lbs a day, so take this with a grain of salt.

I am pretty darn excited about maintaining. We extended our Anniversary celebration and ate out every night from Thursday to Sunday last week. :p I kicked it into gear Monday morning and have done awesome this week...eating right and I have walked 15 miles this week! :D

Argh. Things got crazy at work and I slacked off totally. Not good!
Two things I have discovered that I love:
Breakfast - egg substitute (Trader Joes is the cheapest I have found so far) with 1tbsp 2% shredded cheddar, spinach and onion, all mixed up and cooked in olive oil. Delicious and high protein, low fat!
Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop Kettle Corn - I hate butter popcorn but I love this stuff! I got the snack size bags and one a day keeps me from munching too much junk in front of the TV (my danger zone).

This is so depressing. :( I did such a great job during my last challenge. I've been very good about working out, too. I've realized over the past week or so that my stomach is looking pretty bad, & my muscles there are sorely lacking. After doing the core Pilates stomach excercises last night & having a difficult time of it, I think I'm finally motivated to get in gear.

Known issues: I tend to gain in my thighs and lower abdomen area. I've always had a lot of issues with eating and unhealthy eating habits-skipping meals. I also have guilt when I eat. It's really, really hard for me to write that. But I get mad at myself for not being able to control my hunger. We eat out every night with the rare exception I cook at home. We also travel a lot and I indulge on a little here and there and don't make working out a priority during travels. That written, I don't eat a lot at a time most of the time (I do pig out on occasion), and I am not considered overweight for my age/height. Still, I have put on about 10 pounds and they are not of muscle. I can hide them and most people couldn't tell the difference outwardly, but I know they are there! I'd like to lose them or turn them into muscle!
Current Weight: 117 as of the other day when I was weighed at the doctor's office. My "normal" weight is 105. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal and honestly, numbers are not important to me. I just want to be toned up again and look like I did in June!

Official weigh in tomorrow, at my Weight Watchers meeting. I'm not terribly optimistic, since we went away for our anniversary Monday & Tuesday this week, and I indulged in lots of tasty food. :(
On the positive side, my foot is feeling MUCH better--I even ran on the treadmill Wednesday! And, I finally bought a set of free weights so I can tone up the upper body.

I run almost daily and have been skipping pilates. They only have the classes at 10am or 6:30pm during the week and it's hard to work that into my schedule. I love the Windsor Pilates tapes, so maybe I'll get the DVDs and do those again!

This is my first gain since starting these challenges. :( I am pretty upset, but really have no reason to be. I haven't been as dedicated with my eating or my excercise. I am running a 1/2 marathon tomorrow and then will rededicate myself. I think I am going to have to start running in the morning (and I hate running in the morning) b/c it is too dark at night. UGH!!!

I've been working 2 jobs and going to school so I'm not at home about 60-65 hours a week right now. Sorry for being such a slacker - I cut back to 6 days a week and the only day I double up now is for school so I'll be around more especially for the next challenge which is a fast 4 weeks to Thanksgiving

My WW weigh in is tomorrow. Geez, each week it seems like these creep up on me, although of course I know darn well when my meeting is!
I was very BAD this week. :( My first mishap, fueled by AF. Between Tuesday and Wednesday, I ate a whole freaking bag of Blazing Buffalo Ranch Doritos. And they don't even taste that good, but I needed greasy, salty snacks. Ugh. my stomach rebelled against me so I learned my lesson. Tomorrow the scale may teach me yet another lesson, we will see.
