Help,
I just got back from the ER with my 4yr old Austrailan Cattle dog mix who was treated for a spider bite last night. However he tested very low for platelets (12,000 vs 150,000 normal) I'm just curious if anyone else had this and their dog came back from it alright. They have him on Prednsone and another antibotic for some Tick thing, as well as a pepcid AC type drug to keep the Prednsone from eating away his stomach.

Would love some success stories. The Vet says that it could be autoimmune and need serious treatment (a'la blood transfusion)... which monetarily I"m hoping doesn't happen.

Thanks!!

You never know with these things, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! I have seen plenty of dogs come back from low platelet counts, so success can happen. Keep us posted!

After one week of prednisone his count was up to 250K!!!

The vet still thinks he may have autoimmune issues, but I'm just happy he's doing well.

Thanks for asking!
